The Eagles had a good couple of days to start the draft. They added talented, athletic players that fit their schemes. All four guys were big time players from big time schools. No surprises. No sleepers. Good solid picks.

Day 3 is a different story. This is where scouts earn their money. The Eagles have four picks left.

  • Round 7 – 248

The top players will all be gone by then. Good scouting will help you find Jordan Mailata or Quez Watkins or Jalen Mills.

Eagles Add a Pair of Players in 3rd Rd

The Eagles traded back from 62 to 65. That gave them picks 65 and 66 and they used both of them.

65 – OL Tyler Steen – Alabama – 6-6, 321

Transferred from Vandy to Alabama in 2022 and played LT for the Crimson Tide. Has good feet and is a natural pass protector. Arms are 32.75 inches, which isn’t ideal for LT. Was announced as a G when the pick was made. Did play some G at the Senior Bowl and showed promise.

Andre Dillard is no longer in Philly. The Eagles needed depth and a potential starter. Steen checks both boxes. He can be the backup LT and LG. You could leave Jack Driscoll on the right side. Steen could be the RG of the future.

I had him rated as a 3rd round player so this is good value.

66 – Sydney Brown – Illinois – 5-10, 213

The Eagles lost a playmaking safety in free agency. They added one in the draft. Here are my raw notes on Brown.

Interesting player. High energy guy who flies around the field. Physical player. Would run through a brick wall. Playmaker. Picked off 6 passes in 2022 and 10 for his career. 26 PD’s and 4 FF’s. Has very good hands. Had a very good workout at the Combine and that athleticism shows up on the field. Biggest concern is tackling. Loves to dive at targets. Misses more than he should because he doesn’t consistently wrap up. Versatile player who can play deep, in the slot or in the box.

Work on the tackling and you’ve got a very talented safety.

The Eagles really needed to come away with a safety and they got a good one.
