Star WRs Don’t Stay Put

I was shocked to find out that the Seahawks had traded Percy Harvin while driving home on Friday night. Harvin was a dynamic talent and that offense isn’t exactly loaded with great individual talent. Then I remembered this is Percy Harvin we’re talking about. He has worn out his welcome everywhere. Seattle played very well while Harvin was hurt for most of last year. Did they really need him?

You can’t help but think of the DeSean Jackson situation when you hear about this move. Both Harvin and Jackson were big stars in college, but both fell in the draft due to bad reputations with NFL teams. Both Harvin and Jackson have looked dominant at times in the NFL, but each guy has left his team wanting more. For Harvin, it was all about staying healthy. He has played in 60 of 86 career games. With Jackson, it was about going from dynamic deep threat to being a complete WR.

Both the Eagles and Seahawks thought their star players were worth getting rid of. Pete Carroll has developed a strong culture in Seattle. Chip Kelly is trying to develop one in Philadelphia. Both organizations decided the fit wasn’t right and made dramatic moves. You can argue whether the moves were good or bad. I think there are so many variables that is tough to truly judge the moves. I just find it fascinating that the teams were willing to move on from stars. That shows real confidence from each organization.

I wrote a piece for BGN on the Eagles improved pass rush.

The team is on pace for 51 sacks. That number is a bit skewed by just coming off an 8-sack game, but the defense had consecutive 4-sack games before that so this isn’t like the team had one good game and it came out of nowhere. The Skins have 15 sacks this year, but 10 came in a blowout win over the Jaguars. Aside from that game, the Skins aren’t getting to the QB.

You wonder how the return of Mychael Kendricks will affect the defense. He is the best blitzer and also the best coverage LB. When you send him, he can help the rush. When you use him to cover, he can help shut down the middle of the field or a checkdown target.

Man, that pudding sure looks good.

Desean and Harvin are two very different situations..

Chip inherited Desean, and jettisoned Desean at a time when he was still in the culture phase of team Bulding.,
    ,,
Pete Carrol, traded a 1st, 7th and a 3rd in the next draft, for Harvin and immediately gave him a new contract…. Desean had to go for the culture we are trying to build…seattle already has a Super Bowl culture/strong veteran locker room in place. Carrol is past the culture building phase..established veteran locker rooms are supposed to be able to handle a problem child or two..
    ..
We were also, one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL that still had a ton of fire power without Jackson…Offense was never the strong point of seattle, and now they lost one of their more explosive weapons., say what you will, but seattle just got easier to gameplan to stop…

Curious to see the effects this has on its locker room..allegedly Marshawn was PISSED and almost didn’t get on the bus to St Louis…they play a rival Rams who always steps up and plays them tough..curious to see where Seattles head is coming off an Embarressing loss.. Can that locker room stick together, make a statement and wipe the floor with their Division rival the way we did shutting out the Giants? Or will this cause trouble in their locker room and see them lose their second straight game against an inferior opponent?

Desean and Harvins also differed contractually… this Harvin trade is for a 4th round(conditional) that can go as high as,a,second rounder, but I doubt he reaches those incentives playing in NY?..

im sure NFC rivals look at this as a nice surprise…easier to defend for sure, hopefully we,get really lucky and it throws that locker room out of wack

Normally I would def agree…coming off an Embarressing home loss I would think they would come out pissed and make a statement this week, even tho they play the rams whom p
Yo hem, tough usually…..but I’m not sure this fits under “normally”… I have no idea what’s the state of that locker room right now..

I would never guessed them trading away a key piece, mid season without clearing it with the leaders before pulling the trigger… Leaders obviously weren’t consulted if BeastMode was flipping out and almost not got on the bus for the team trip yesterday….
    ..
For all I know, that locker room is strong enough to handle this, and they will handle business this week….but I think Carrol is playing Russian Roulette with his locker room to be jettisoning key players Midseason, weakening your arsenal when you are trying to defend your Super Bowl crown..

Fascinated to see how tomorrow’s division game with the Rams plays out, and what happens in Seattle over the course of their next 3-4 games…

You are playing with Fire, weakening your offense when you play in a division so tough that you can end up finishing 3rd in your division……. Maybe it doesn’t effect the lockers room and they stampede the Rams…but that teams wasn’t deep with offensive weapons to begin with…what happens if Baldwin or Kearse get injured? A lot of season left to play…and Seattle just became easier to defend..wonder how this impacts their run game, since us losing Desean was supposed to be the end of the world for our run game….Harvin was their Desean, aka field stretcher, home run hitter…..seahawks can kiss that jet sweep they like to run with Harvin goodbye lol

“why isn’t it the end of the world that average seattle offense lost the player that stretches the field for them?”

Things is, he was more like a 175 pound RB for them, no field stretcher. I don’t have the stats right in front of me, but I read that he wasn’t a deep threat for them more than once.

    Strange situation overall.

Agree. In my personal opinion, Cunningham could’ve been one of the all time greats if he’d had better coaching early in his career and had player in a system that utilized his talents fully (something like what the 49ers run now). He was ahead of his time.

  14. 14 Media Mike said at 8:40 AM on October 19th, 2014:

I think you meant Green Bay. San Fran’s system still has too much QB running around and Kaep consistantly makes stupid decisions with the football.

I would rather go in the time machine and match rookie Cunningham with Green Bay’s coaching of Rodgers or Indy’s coaching of Luck.

Look at 1998. That was the year Cunningham could have had EVERY year if the Eagles coaching staff would have done a proper teaching job with him.

QBs running often is a dead end and diminishes their passing skills. Cunningham, as a smart vet who could read a D and still rocket the ball out of his hands in a accurate manner when throwing deep, was a revelation in 1998. Shame it was in Minnesota.

  18. 18 GEAGLE said at 4:29 PM on October 18th, 2014:

I have no idea what’s going on in that locker room..but when I look at their offense, it must have been really problematic for them to make this move now, because I don’t see a plethora of weapons on that team to where they can so easily jettison and replace one of their better playmakers That creates space for their offense…The defending Super Bowl champions, with THAT established championship locker room with veterans like Sherm, Kam. Earl, BEASTMODE, couldn’t keep it together, make it work for the next 4 months so they can wait to replace Harvin in the offseason? Not only do they lose a key weapon, but this sounds like they didn’t clear i with the leaders and key players like BEASTMODE

They’d have to consider him depending on the price. Not sure what his contract is like but if he is still working off his rookie deal it could work. If Shady ever went down long term I’d be much happier with a Spiller Sproles combo than a Sproles Polk combo. Not because I dislike Polk, but I feel like Spiller’s skillset more closely matches Shady’s.

  38. 38 Media Mike said at 8:43 AM on October 19th, 2014:

Spiller is cheap on the salary end, but a free agent at the end of the year. I’d trade a 7th or Dennis Kelly for Spiller, but nothing more. He’ll look to sign with a new team this off-season in order to get #1 carries.

  39. 39 Media Mike said at 8:42 AM on October 19th, 2014:

Spiller, by virtue of being a free agent at the end of the year, isn’t worth more than a 7th rounder or a player for player swap for the Eagles. He wants to be a feature back, so signing here is a non-option.

If Cleveland could cut bait on Ben Taint, Spiller might help them upgrade the talent around Hoyer.

  40. 40 Anders said at 8:50 AM on October 19th, 2014:

If Cleveland cut Tate, its because West and Crowell is good enough. The Browns is already 3 deep at RB, no need to pick up another RB

  41. 41 Media Mike said at 8:58 AM on October 19th, 2014:

Tate is injury prone, Crowell is a fringe player at best, and West got jumped on the depth chart by fringe Crowell. A chance to upgrade with a guy like Spiller, who has low usage and knows Pettine from time together at Buffalo, is a move teams make often.

  42. 42 Anders said at 9:04 AM on October 19th, 2014:

You can’t keep a guy who was doing what Harvin was reportedly doing, and only a dysfunctional, desperate team like the Jets would be willing to take him, if they knew what was going on (and I’m willing to bet they did).

The fact that the Hawks got a pick for Harvin and we got nothing for Jackson probably has to do with the Jets desperation and the contracts of the 2 players

I think the contract situations were similar for Harvin and DeSean (before he was cut). Both had superstar contracts, but non-guaranteed (in fact, I think they were set to make about the same amount, ~$10 million/year). Don’t think you necessarily had to give DeSean a new contract if you traded for him (unless his agent was demanding that, which might have been the case).

  58. 58 suthrneagle said at 9:06 PM on October 18th, 2014:

  59. 59 xeynon said at 1:00 AM on October 19th, 2014:

I always laugh when people write off a guy getting into fights with teammates, undermining the coach, not showing up for practice, etc. as if it’s no big deal and it’s something an organization should be able to deal with. At any other job, acting like an irrational, narcissistic psycho gets you fired really quickly. Would you want to go into the office if you had to deal with a guy who routinely did the kind of things Harvin is said to have done?

Football’s a team game and self-centered pricks like Harvin, T.O., DeSean Jackson, etc. will inevitably wear out their welcome and start to undermine the morale and camaraderie of the locker room if you keep them around. There’s a reason we have the phrase “team cancer”. Kudos to guys like Chip Kelly and Carroll for having the balls to tell these guys to take a hike.

You know what frustrates me? Percy Harvin has been traded TWICE for a total of four draft picks. And the Eagles couldn’t get anything for DeSean Jackson? DJax was a way more proven commodity – without the injury history. Seriously, the the cover up surrounding Jackson’s release rivals that of JFK. The Howie Roseman quote that WIP uses to advertise his weekly show is “I will never lie to you”. Well, somebody isn’t telling the truth though. C’mon, man!!!

  81. 81 P_P_K said at 10:47 PM on October 18th, 2014:

You’re right. We got nothing for DeSean. Which is definitely too bad. The only thing I can figure is that Chip wanted him out of town well before training camp began, come hell or high water. Probably the other GMs figured that out so nobody made a decent offer. Along comes Dan Snyder, known for having a small brain and a large wallet.

**sarcastic** we all know it was Jimmy Bama’s fault for bringing it out into the open and ruining the trade value.

Seriously though, given the timing of everything it seems like DeSean’s value disappeared. Teams suspected he would be released and there was a WR rich draft coming. Add in the contract and the cost was far too high (including compensation) compared to the risk of waiting to see what would happen. You have to think in terms of economics, where we as fans typically think in terms of talent and highlights.

I agree with you there in that they didn’t allow their failure to reap any value in return to keep them from doing what they wanted to do with Jackson. Jackson, or any other player in the league, is sunk cost when you sign him. The worst thing to do is hold onto a guy longer than you want him just because of what you’ve paid him to that point. It’s just less than ideal that they didn’t get any value for a 3 time pro bowler.

  98. 98 Stevo said at 8:12 PM on October 18th, 2014:

If I were an Jets fan, I’d be pretty pissed about this trade. It’s basically an admission that they did the wrong thing by not acquiring DeSean last summer. Idzik was watching DeSean catch 50+ yard TD bombs this year (as he has done in the past) while the Jets went 1-6 and when you had DeSean’s former O-coordinator and QB on the team. The stories I’ve been reading about Percy, he sounds worse than DeSean ever did in the locker room.

I’m actually just pissed the Jets didn’t even give us a 7th rounder or something for DeSean when they’re giving up a minimum 4th round pick for Harvin mid-season. And we have to play DeSean twice a year. Thanks, Idzik.

Seeing ANYONE in the agony Victor Cruz was in last week is horrible. I’ll also say that (for selfish reasons) that the injury didn’t occur so that he could help them have a better, but still very long, shot at upsetting the Cry boys today. That to me, would’ve really helpednot only our divisional standing, but the emptiness of an Eagles bye week. It’s hard enough to shake off the shellacking we gave the Giants last week. But add in the loss of the teams heart & soul in Cruz, I’m fearful that the Gmen just lay down & let Dallas steam roll them. My hope is that instead, they use it as a rallying cry of “let’s win this one for Victor!”. On a related note, they sure could’ve used him against that defense. I STIKL do not for THE LOVE OF ALL THAT’S HOLY understand how a D that was so bad it was historic last year, loses Ware & Sean Lee & SOMEHOW against all odds & logic, they are somehow a borderline formidable top ten defense. But they’ve looked depressingly dominant in those games. Good defense & O-line & of course Demarco Murray looking unstoppable. So, please, help put my mind at ease, what have you seen exactly that makes them look fraudulent in the times I haven’t seen them? Hearing this would do my heart good because right now, I’m seeing so few weaknesses, that I’ll admit to looking to future injuries to slow them down. ..
The Guard Ronald Leary wouldn’t even be one of our top 6 offensive lineman. Decent run blocker, suspect in pass protection. Still drives them crazy with his inconsistent pad level.. Our DL hit the sled every day, fundamentally sound beast of a DL we boast, bet our boys get under his pads and win more than their fair share of battles against him…

Conversly…what DL do they have that any of our starting OL should be concerned with? None..our starting OL dominates their defensive front,
    ..
Games are won and lost in th trenches… Look at the individual MATCHUPS between their starting DL vs. Our starting OL, their starting OL against our DL, they win like 2 or 3 out of the 10 individual matchups…

Eagles at full strength vs. Dallas at full strength, we win thee battle of the trenches,,,

Demarco is the RB version of VICK….he gets hurt every year, and they never used him this much…. They are using him more than every, and he is playing his heart out because its a contract year…I have to see him play 16 games before I believe it.

They have nice weapons on offense but not a lot of them…they have two good WRs, a good veteran TE, young decent TE, and an injury prone power RB…just so happens our DL

That was so odd… I still don’t get what happened? Tavon ran all the way to the left, even tho the ball was kicked to the other side, and the kicking team didn’t know so they all ran to Tavons side, when really the ball was kicked to other side where Baily was?

So basically Seattle coverage team thought the punter shanked the kick? Wtf… I don’t know if I should applaud them or laugh at them…what’s next? The Statue of Liberty play?…. ISNT seattle one of our main competitors for top ST unit? Lol

  172. 172 GermanEagle said at 2:46 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Yeah I need to see a few more replays, that was weird

  174. 174 Crus57 said at 2:49 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Yeah it was pretty weird. I guess the coverage team has gotten used to following the flow of the receiving team’s blockers, assuming they are getting into position – rather than luring them out of the way as in this case.

Let’s not forget the ball will be way over their heads as they run down, they probably won’t see it until the last second before it is caught or hits the ground, so I guess they can be forgiven for assuming they’re ok if they just follow the other team… until now.

  175. 175 GEAGLE said at 2:51 PM on October 19th, 2014:

True true…curious to ask Braman and Maragos about that… In that situation do they read the flow of the blocking team I guess..

Rams making cowboys win over Seattle look much less impressive.

  189. 189 GEAGLE said at 2:27 PM on October 19th, 2014:

I won’t take anything away from their win…. But I think it’s absurd to say that was more impressive than us shutting out a rival… Cowboys had a good game, but I doubt anyone will say seattle was playing one of its better games…. Still their are some lessons to be learned from Dallas win… Like roughing up Richard Sherman,..he made the tackle but a couple times he was getting up slow, holding his shoulder because WRs were trying to truck him and get physical with him… He stays on the left side so we have to stick Cooper, ERTZ, James Casey, Jordan in front of Sherm and have those big pass catchers get physical with him… Split Lane out wide and throw a screen to that side and let Lane maul Sherm… Gotta rough him up….. Force Kam Chancellor to have to matchup with ERTZ or Sproles…… I would like to split Sproles out wide once and see how Richard Sherman defends Sproles out of sheer curiosity lol
    ..,
Our front 7 can do well against seattle OL… Use some mush rush, keep Wilson in the pocket, we did well against Kapernick… I also think our front 7 matches up well against power runningbacks like BEASTMODE… Rather play against Demarcus Murruy/BEASTMODE type running attacks instead of having to defend burners like Jammal CHarles or Giovani bernard

We laugh at bills for signing Kyle Orton, but he is much better at actually throwing the ball and leading a offense than EJ Mannuel.. Don’t get how anyone ever thought EJ would be a good NFL QB.. ATleast Orton gives sammy Watkins a chance to do something..they paid enough for watkins.. EJ wasn’t as good of a prospect as that scab Geno smith, yet these idiots took EJ in round 1..shameful.

  196. 196 Crus57 said at 2:42 PM on October 19th, 2014:

All the tough games left on our schdule,,, the way teams have played the last two weeks, today it would seem @ Lambeau is our toughest game…. Tho I learmed that what you see in the NFL TODAY can look completly different a month from now… Can’t be a prisoner of the moment and get too hung up on the most recent performance of a team..
    ..
NFL season is all about who can withstand the tough marathon of a season, win enough games to make the playoffs, and the team who handles the bumps and bruises of a long season to grow into the best team in December/January gets the Super Bowl crown… .
    ..
Who you are in October, probably won’t be the same as who you are in December. Teams that can overcome injuries, have a strong locker room and grow, will be the top teams in Defember… The teams with weak locker rooms, lack depth, suffer injuries can implode and not be as good in December as they were in October,,

Which teams are most equipped to handle an NFL season and play their best ball in December? Don’t see how any Eagles fan can say they expect to dallas to have a better chance to sustain this level then the Eagles

  208. 208 Avery Greene said at 3:15 PM on October 19th, 2014:

AZ is a tough game too. They don’t make mistakes and capitalize on other teams mistakes. Solid team, solid coaching, and IMO a pretty tough game.

  209. 209 GEAGLE said at 3:21 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Definitely a tough game.. They will beat Oakland today and it will be 5-1 Eagles vs. 5-1 arizona for 1st place in the NFC… But I expect to beat them.
    ..
In terms of wins and losses I worry more about a let down game against the Texans the following week, fairly confident we beat Zona

  210. 210 Avery Greene said at 3:24 PM on October 19th, 2014:

I feel the same way. This team is battle-tested and won some games against all odds. The Giants game is what this team needed going into the bye. We’ll miss Sproles, but I think AZ turns the ball over to us for the first (and 2nd) time this season. It’s bound to happen and our D will make it happen.

  220. 220 Anders said at 3:59 AM on October 20th, 2014:

Wilson is the most effective when the run game and play-action and boot action is working, but every QB is almost like that. Wilson or Tannehill would still be perfect in this scheme (also consider even our bad version of the OL is better than both have now and the overall offensive talent is far superior)

Seattle could follow the 2004 Super Bowl Eagles season path. Start off decent, star WR goes and then things start to fall apart. A Russell Wilson sports hernia injury after blowing a late 4th quarter lead to the 49ers would seal the deal.

Of course, Seattle did win the SB, but only a minor detail.

    ..
“Angry” Doug Baldwin, meet “Pissed off” Cary Williams… Bradley can take care of Kearse… They don’t throw much to RBs and they have a bunch of injured TE’s…. Front 7 should do well against BEASTMODE power run game…if our OLBs to a good job of containment, not letting Wilson get outside the pocket, we win that game,,

Forget that he was a scumbag in Bullygate…he is washed up. Stick a fork in him. He was done last year…what in the world makes you sign him and start him? I simply don’t believe that you don’t have a player on your bench who can be better than him… I honestly think he should be out of the league… He has nothing left in the tank and he never was a Technition.. 273. 273 BC1968 said at 4:47 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Wow, Eli had time.

  274. 274 BC1968 said at 4:48 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  278. 278 BC1968 said at 4:50 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  287. 287 SteveH said at 4:58 PM on October 19th, 2014:

My god I would hate to play for Tom Coughlin. If I had to look at that stupid face every time I ran off the field… He’s like the disapproving senior citizen living down the street who just can’t believe you’re dating that ethnic girl.

  288. 288 Crus57 said at 4:58 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  299. 299 GEAGLE said at 5:13 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Cowboys are just dumb,, I loved ODB as much as anyone, but they could have gotten WR in round two or three… If they had any brains they would have traded up for Jake Mathews or Lewan,

  300. 300 jpate said at 5:13 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    you mean giants?

  301. 301 GEAGLE said at 5:14 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Yeah,I’ll edit it… Or Giants should have drafted the Guard Dallas took..to take ODB when you are starting Jon Jerry on your line is a joke..

  302. 302 jpate said at 5:17 PM on October 19th, 2014:

I agree I thought for sure they were taking OL

  303. 303 GEAGLE said at 5:23 PM on October 19th, 2014:

In that draft it was a no BRAINER.. They could have gotten a quality WR in round two.. Every GM knows nothing matters if you are weak in the trenches,, it was malpractice to not take OL with the state that line is in

  309. 309 Dragon_Eagle said at 5:16 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  311. 311 GEAGLE said at 5:17 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Telling you their defense and OL is over rated…wharts will start to reveal themselves,,, telling you this Cowboys team isn’t a contender.. Long season, plenty of time to do cowboy shit

  312. 312 SteveH said at 5:17 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Isn’t Aikman just the worst?

  328. 328 BC1968 said at 5:24 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Annoying is one word among many others.

  329. 329 SteveH said at 5:25 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Too many blows to the head. I don’t think his eyes work right anymore, he never accurately describes what’s actually happening on the field.

  330. 330 BC1968 said at 5:25 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Reggie White helped with that for sure.

  331. 331 Dragon_Eagle said at 5:25 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  334. 334 Dragon_Eagle said at 5:24 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  337. 337 Crus57 said at 5:24 PM on October 19th, 2014:

A bad thing happened to the Cowboys, which is enough for Aikman it seems.

    Wonderfullllllllllllllllll

  339. 339 GEAGLE said at 5:24 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Surprise surprise…Dallas is not going to win today,

  340. 340 Dragon_Eagle said at 5:24 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Hee hee!

  341. 341 Avery Greene said at 5:25 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Watching this game, I’m not worried about the Cowboys. If we beat AZ this week, we will get 13 wins this season.

  342. 342 GEAGLE said at 5:30 PM on October 19th, 2014:

They are over rated,, plenty of weak areas good teams can exploit.. Defense is over rated, and the OL is over rated,, they can run block, but suspect pass blockers(2 of the 5 OL are suspect)

Eagles are going to accomplish something extremely rare this year…SWEEP THE NFC EAST! Running the table! only time the NFC east beat chip last year was when FOles got hurt..once against Dallas and the Giants,,, Chip will sweep this division now that he has FOles and sanchez

  343. 343 ACViking said at 5:28 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Best QB right now?

    Philip Rivers.

Takes SD 80 yards in 6 plays and 41 seconds for a TD, after getting the ball with 55 seconds left in the 1st H. And used only 1 time out.

  344. 344 GEAGLE said at 5:40 PM on October 19th, 2014:

He is up there for sure… I’d say Rivers has been more consistent, but Rogers has been the best these past few weeks.. It’s not that Rivers hasn’t been great, but since Rogers told his silly fans/media to RELAX, he has been as good as it gets.. You can’t really play better than that, so I guess Rivers and Rogers should share the top spot so far this season

  345. 345 BC1968 said at 5:29 PM on October 19th, 2014:

No shutout, what’s next? No win?

  346. 346 Avery Greene said at 5:30 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Pretty much. This Cowboys defense is fraudulent.

  347. 347 BC1968 said at 5:30 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Colors are starting to show.

  348. 348 GEAGLE said at 5:30 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Been saying that. So is their OL

  349. 349 BC1968 said at 5:30 PM on October 19th, 2014:

A lot of ankles will be breaking come tonight.

  350. 350 Dragon_Eagle said at 5:30 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Hit Romo!

  351. 351 GEAGLE said at 5:33 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Sit back and watch the Eagles get first place of the division without even playing!… Get well rested to win first place in the NFC next week

  352. 352 BC1968 said at 5:33 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Damn that was great! That’s a td if he’s not hit

  353. 353 BC1968 said at 5:34 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Uh oh Murray hurt? Oops

  354. 354 Avery Greene said at 5:35 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Didn’t see that coming… /s

  355. 355 GEAGLE said at 5:37 PM on October 19th, 2014:

I picked up his backup in fantasy…waiting to capitalize on his inevitable injury lol

  356. 356 GEAGLE said at 5:35 PM on October 19th, 2014:

THE ONLY time NFC east has ever beaten chip kelly is in games where FOles was hurt….once against Giants with Matt Barkley, and Dallas and the FOles concussion game

Now that chip has FOles and Sanchez he will run the table on the NFC east which is not something we see too often

  357. 357 BC1968 said at 5:36 PM on October 19th, 2014:

So Romo set up a picnic table, made a sandwich, then threw that pass.

  358. 358 BC1968 said at 5:36 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Oh he threw it after he ate it.

  359. 359 Avery Greene said at 5:37 PM on October 19th, 2014:

I was just thinking the same thing. No pressure at all.

  360. 360 BC1968 said at 5:37 PM on October 19th, 2014:

When he went to his left there was absolutely nothing there but field.

  361. 361 Dragon_Eagle said at 5:37 PM on October 19th, 2014:

I don’t understand the strategy of rushing just 3 against a QB like Romo. Romo moves very well, extends plays, so with only 3 v. 5 on the rush, eventually someone is going to come open.

  362. 362 BC1968 said at 5:38 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Romo always has that one play that makes you go crazy.

  363. 363 BC1968 said at 5:45 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    That’s a nice sack.

  364. 364 Dragon_Eagle said at 5:45 PM on October 19th, 2014:

See! Hit Romo – then good things start happening.

    Hit him again.

  365. 365 BC1968 said at 5:46 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Aikman’s cute little laugh. Tee hee hee

  366. 366 SteveH said at 5:46 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Giants should have called a timeout after the sack. They have no confidence though.

  367. 367 BC1968 said at 5:47 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Yep, it was 2nd and 19, wasted a lot of time.

  368. 368 BC1968 said at 5:48 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Dallas will be eating hot dogs for Thanksgiving.

  369. 369 Avery Greene said at 5:49 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    I. Don’t. Understand. This. Play. Calling.

  370. 370 SteveH said at 5:49 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Or this Andy Reidesque clock management. They didn’t call timeout after the sack, but now they’re calling timeouts with 3 seconds left in the half and 65 yards to go.

  371. 371 SteveH said at 5:50 PM on October 19th, 2014:

and then they just run the ball again. The hell is Tom Coughlin doing.

  372. 372 Crus57 said at 5:53 PM on October 19th, 2014:

The equivalent of making his players run sprints?

  373. 373 ACViking said at 5:51 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    GE . . .

    Rodgers v. Rivers.

Either one’s a great choice right now.

    d’accordo

  374. 374 Avery Greene said at 5:55 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Today, I think the Chargers win the AFC. That can change in the coming weeks, but they just seem to be clicking.

  375. 375 GEAGLE said at 7:36 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Before they lost today, I would have said rivers was ahead in the MVP race… Now it’s pretty even

  376. 376 Dragon_Eagle said at 5:59 PM on October 19th, 2014:

So, anybody see the Seahawks game? Did they just look flat or what was the problem?

I saw something about Lynch being pissed of about the Harvin trade. Wonder if there’s a little more dissension in that locker room right now.

  377. 377 SteveH said at 6:03 PM on October 19th, 2014:

I saw a lot of the game, until the 4th quarter the Seahawks looked pretty poor. Rams D was collapsing late, but Hawks D didn’t look too special either.

  378. 378 ACViking said at 6:05 PM on October 19th, 2014:

The ‘hawks body language reflected a real lack of intensity. At least until late in the 3rd Q.

    (Just as SteveH remarked.)

Most noticeable was MLynch . . . like he couldn’t have cared less.

  379. 379 Anders said at 3:52 AM on October 20th, 2014:

One reason why it is so hard to repeat in the NFL. For some players later in their careers, after they won, the hunger goes away.
Also Lynch was unhappy about money this off season and this might be his last as an Hawk

  380. 380 SteveH said at 6:07 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Eli almost as slow and awkward as Foles running the ball.

  381. 381 GermanEagle said at 6:07 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  382. 382 BC1968 said at 6:09 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Good call. lol

  383. 383 BC1968 said at 6:09 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Can’t challenge that kind of play

  384. 384 A_T_G said at 6:11 PM on October 19th, 2014:

That should be delay of game. The NFL should penalize for stupidity.

  385. 385 ACViking said at 6:10 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Dumbest plays of the year?

KC WR — with no one in front of him — steps out of bounds as he’s sprinting toward the goal line.

    AJ JENKINS

  386. 386 SteveH said at 6:11 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  387. 387 BC1968 said at 6:12 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    These announcers.

  388. 388 SteveH said at 6:12 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  389. 389 BC1968 said at 6:13 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    Crap pass

  390. 390 Avery Greene said at 6:13 PM on October 19th, 2014:

I don’t mind, but this is some terrible football from the Giants. The play is terrible, the play calling is terrible, and they are just making stupid mistakes all over the place.

  391. 391 BC1968 said at 6:17 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Can’t believe Murray is going to break Brown’s record.

  392. 392 BC1968 said at 6:18 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  397. 397 GermanEagle said at 6:23 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  398. 398 SteveH said at 6:24 PM on October 19th, 2014:

Giants D is hanging pretty tough I think, but their O is fucking up.

  399. 399 GermanEagle said at 6:25 PM on October 19th, 2014:

  401. 401 SteveH said at 6:26 PM on October 19th, 2014:

21 halfway through the 3rd… is not horrible.

  402. 402 BC1968 said at 6:27 PM on October 19th, 2014:

    We have:
    @Cardinals
    @Texans
    vs. Panthers
    @Packers
    vs. Titans

Titans should be a gimme. Panthers and Texans should be wins. Arizona is good, but I would put money on the Eagles. The Packers are the only game in there that looks like a loss. But even then it’s not an impossible game. At worst we are going into Thanksgiving at 8-3 with two games to play against Dallas. Plus Thanksgiving is on a short week. We play the previous Sunday at 1pm home vs. the titans. The Cowboys are currently scheduled for the Sunday night game in New York. Then they have a 3:30 flight back home. They won’t get back to Dallas until 4 or 5am EST. That could be a huge advantage.

EAGLES RUN THE TABLE ON THE NFC EAST THIS YEAR!
    ..
That’s right! You heard me! Eagles won’t lose a single NFC east game this year! Chip and FOles together have never lost in this division, and now that we have Sanchez, I’m confident we can run the table even if FOles missed a game or two … Sanchez drastically > VICK!

Only time chip lost in the division is FOles concussion vs. Dallas, and he lost to the Giamts with Matt Barkley..
    ,,
Now that we have FOles and Sanchez, we win every single division game this year… BET THAT!
    ..
PS…. The only way I reserve the right to ammend this statement is with an injury to both QBs or losing Jason Peters…

So far they have been able to run the ball and that has masked the pass blocking deficiency of two offensive lineman. I believe we can make them throw, and if our offense gives us the lead and makes the Cowboys play from behind, we stomp them!
    ..
I also don’t think they have 1 defensive lineman can out play any of our starting OL for 60 minutes…and I believe we have a handful of defensive lineman that can beat Ronald Leary or Doug Free..
    ..,
And if we have a big advantage in the trenches, I will expect to win every time

Murray’s in a contract year. The fact that his agent isn’t on the phone screaming at Garret/whoever is calling the plays this week, is ridiculous. The Cowboys are gonna kill him and he’s not going to get squat in FA.

Well there is That lil known fact that for a 100milliion dollar QB, he didn’t command the locker room like you would think a “leader” does… It’s already established that “leadership” Wasnt Donovan’s strong suit, and a handful of his team mates who liked Donovan admitted that…

I also don’t get the “captain save a hoe crap”.. If the man doesnt like a certain player, he doesn’t like a certain player….it’s his right…and it has nothing to do with you

Can they really have a 3rd back they like more than bryce? Then again, Bryce doesn’t dress so they probably do..l

You want a good fantasy pickup? Especially in a dynasty league? Tre Mason..picked him up last week, thinking as soon as rams are completely eliminated from playoff Hunt, they will want to see what they have in their 3rd round RB, so I picked him up figuring I get two good games out of him, and I can keep him next year and it only cost me a 12th round pick

Sproles practicing would be a really pleasant surprise..

Anyone hear any time tables for Chris Polk?

mathis and Kelce should be getting close to being healthy.. Figure in like a week they start working on their conditioning for their Nov 10 return… mathis probably be ready before NOV 10 but he has to wait cuz we stuck him on IR… KELCE could come back as soon as he is ready I believe.

Love our coaches approach to bad penalties…Forget about it, doesn’t matter, everything balances out over the course of the season…while pig face has his team watch him wine and make excuses… Blame it on ref…original.

Carson Palmer goes in the eli category…hit him, and watch him unravel. Their OL is nothing special Tho the left tackle the stole from the Raiders has been playing really well this year…our Tight ends destroyed their defense last year. It would be huge if we can also throw Sproles at them as a pass catching weapon
    ..
Corners did well against Fitz n FLoyd last year… We will shut down their run game, so another good game by our corners and we wih this week…
    ..
Think the Niners gets Caleus Cambell back…hopefully we get kendrick, Soroles or preferably both back!

Indifferent as I am to the departure of DJax, I think it is an unwarranted insult to him to wrap him in the same tape as Harvin. Harvin has had fly-off-the-handle-itis since before he played for Florida. He has alienated more teammates than Terrell Owens, and he has trouble staying on the team that signs him. Maybe he takes or needs to take mood-altering substances. Next to him, Jackson is merely a self-centered burner.
