2023 Draft – Day 2

Posted: April 28th, 2023 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | Comments Off on 2023 Draft – Day 2

The Eagles got off to a great start on Thursday, adding DT Jalen Carter and LB/DE Nolan Smith. The only way the day could have been better is if Megan Fox and I watched it together while sharing PBR and Funyuns.

There is still a lot of work to be done. The Eagles have:

Pick 62 – late 2nd rounder
Pick 66 – early 3rd rounder

We’ll get to needs/targets in a minute. I always think it is important to look at what the Eagles already have in place. Here is my guess at the depth chart for now, focusing on projected starters and key backups.

WR  Quez Watkins ….. Olamide Zaccheaus …. Britain Covey
QB  Jalen Hurts …….. Marcus Mariota ….. Ian Book
RB  Rashad Penny ..… Kenneth Gainwell ……. Boston Scott
TE  Dallas Goedert …… Jack Stoll ……..… Grant Calcaterra
LT  Jordan Mailata …….… Jack Driscoll
LG  Landon Dickerson….. Sua Opeta
OC  Jason Kelce ……….
RG   Cam Jurgens ….… Brett Toth
RT  Lane Johnson …….

DE Josh Sweat …… Brandon Graham …. Derek Barnett ….. Tarron Jackson
DL  Milton Williams …. Kentavius Street
NT  Jordan Davis  …… Marlon Tuipulotu …..Noah Ellis
DL Fletcher Cox ………… Jalen Carter ……… Marvin Wilson
SB  Haason Reddick ….. Nolan Smith …….Patrick Johnson ….. Kyron Johnson
MB Nick Morrow  ……. Shaun Bradley …… Christian Elliss

TARGETS

OT Matthew Bergeron – Syracuse – 6-5, 318

OL Steve Avila – TCU – 6-4, 332

OT Dawand Jones – Ohio State – 6-8, 375

SAF Brian Branch – Alabama – 5-11, 190

CB Joey Porter – Penn State – 6-3, 193

DB Kelee Ringo – Georgia – 6-1, 207

OL Cody Mauch – North Dakota State – 6-5, 302

DL Adetomiwa Adebawore – DL – 6-2, 284

RB Zach Charbonnet – UCLA – 6-0, 214

WR Jonathan Mingo – Ole Miss – 6-1, 226

I would love to see Howie trade down from pick 62 into the 3rd round and add a mid-round pick or two. The player I’d most like to get in the 2nd is OL Matt Bergeron. He’s started at RT and LT. He could play OG. Tough, physical, versatile and athletic. Would be a good piece for Jeff Stoutland to work with and we know the Eagles have shown some interest in him.

Lots of interesting options.

Please draft a couple of these players

RB Zach Charbonnet- UCLA
RB Roschon Johnson – Texas
RB Evan Hull – NW
TE Luke Schoonmaker – Michigan
TE Brenton Strange – Penn State
OL Matt Bergeron – Syracuse
OL Braeden Daniels – Utah
OL McClendon Curtis – Tennessee-Chattanooga
OL Anthony Bradford – LSU

DE Nolan Smith – Georgia
DL Jalen Carter – Georgia
DL Mazi Smith – Michigan
DL Keeanu Benton- Wisconsin
DL Desjuan Johnson – Toledo
S Jordan Battle – Alabama
S Daniel Scott – Cal
CB Devon Witherspoon – Illinois
CB Emmanuel Forbes – Miss State

Please avoid these players

WR Trey Palmer – Nebraska – Talented player, but I don’t know that he’s got the mental makeup to handle the pressure of playing in Philly.
CB Joey Porter – Penn State – Love his size and phsyicality, but only has 1 career pick. Can’t take a CB early who can’t catch the ball.
DT Bryan Bresee – Clemson – Tons of potential, but he was an underachiever at Clemson. Makes me nervous as a pro prospect.
