Bad Night in Big D

The Eagles lost for the second straight week, and it wasn’t close for the second straight week. After losing to SF 42-19, they went down to Dallas 33-13. Yikes.

The defense was atrocious in the first half, giving up 247 yards and 24 points. The offense only managed a pair of FGs. The Eagles have come from behind after trailing at halftime in several games. We all wondered if they could pull that off again, but down 24-6 on the road is tough.

Obviously the comeback didn’t happen.

The defense did show some life. They limited Dallas to 9 points and 147 yards in the second half. They also scored a TD, the only one the Eagles got in the game.

As bad as the defense was in the first half, it was encouraging to see them make some plays in the second half. They weren’t nearly good enough, but it was better than watching them struggle for the whole game.

The offense had a rough night. Give Dallas credit. They have a good defense. But boy, the Eagles offense deserves a lot of blame. Hurts didn’t have his best game. He had a bad fumble and made some poor decisions in the passing game. Hurts didn’t get enough help. DeVonta Smith played his worst game of the year. He had a couple of drops and also fumbled. AJ Brown also had a fumble.

You aren’t going to win a first place showdown when your three best offensive players all have fumbles. Ugh.

Fans and some media members are going to be playing the blame game. Was it the coordinators? Was it the offense? Was it the defense? Did Howie not bring in the right guys? And on and on. This was a team loss.

The Eagles are in a funk right now. They make key mistakes and just don’t make plays. The coaches are not pushing the right buttons. Nick Sirianni was testy in his postgame press conference. I get the feeling he let the team know he wasn’t happy with their performance.

Part of this is the schedule. We talked all year about the gauntlet the team would have to go through.

DAL
@ KC
BUF
SF
@ DAL

That was a brutal set of teams to have to play in a row. The Eagles came through it 3-2, which is what I hoped for. I just figured they would lose to one of the AFC teams and would have won last week or Sunday night. I had the right record, wrong teams.

The Eagles can’t just say “The schedule gets easier. We’ll start winning.” They have a lot of things to clean up. The team better get back to work and figure some things out.

Holding onto the ball would be a good place to start.
