Day 2 Discussion Thread

There aren’t any guys I’m dead set on. I hope we lean defense, but if the plan is to add veteran defenders in free agency and/or trades…you can just play the board and take the best players. It would be interesting to see if Andy goes for a guy like RB Taiwan Jones in the 2nd. Or do we go conventional and get a defender.
My preference is to get a CB or S Marcus Gilchrist. I wojuldn’t complain if we moved up for CB Ras-I Dowling either. We’ll see what happens. Should be a fun day.
I *think* the second round will focus on defense. CB (Williams, Dowling, Harris?) or LB (Bruce Carter?) would be great, IMO.
Yeah, this is a weird day 2, there’s nobody here that I’m in love with at all.
Schefter says NE and PHI talking about a deal…
Dowling is gone. 🙁
Hate those Pats.
man, really really wanted Dowling to fall within range for us. damn.
I wonder if the Eagles were actually looking to move up for Dowling? Maybe it’s Williams and they’ll keep working with these teams for an early pick today.
The Patriots are so frustrating.
The Pats spend a ton of picks at DB and get mediocre results.
Seems to me this would make us a major player in the Nnamdi sweepstakes. If they get him, and they get Ayers and the RB Jones in the draft, this offseason is a success in my book.
I am rooting for Bruce Carter. He has the prerequisite knee injury, he is an athletic beast, he is a mean tackler.
Plus, I like the possible LB firm of Chaney, Bradley and Carter. Nice ring to it.
Run on CBs…
The Eagles will be out of play for any starting quality corners. Harris will go pretty quickly too.
I guess we’re gonna see a run on Corners. bad news for the Birds.
guess we’re gonna need to get ready to back up the Brinks truck to Asomugha’s house.
Hey Tommy – Is Rahim Moore strictly an FS, or would he offer anything as an SS?
I approve of Andy Dalton’s girlfriend.
God, Dalton’s gf is STACKED.
RE: Rahim Moore
Pure FS in my mind. Sloppy tackler. Not physical.
Get Marcus Gilchrist for SS.
RE: drafting a CB
I’d love to get a CB in the 2nd or 3rd as a player for the future. I still want a veteran CB acquired.
Haha. Always love the eye candy.
One less team in the Kolb Sweepstakes.
Take the 49ers out of the Kolb sweepstakes.
Ugh. By the time this draft is over I wonder if there will be enough competition for Kolb to even get a 1st for him.
What is up with SF letting a couple of young hot chicks in their war room? That’s fantasy material for me.
Interesting pick of Kaepernick to SF. Harbaugh was great with Josh Johnson at San Diego, another athletic runner/passer.
What are the chances of Harris making it to the Eagles? or do we think he is worth moving up for?
Eye candy in the 49ers war room as well!
I never bought SF as Kolb target. Jim wants Alex Smith to stick around for now. He wants to develop his own QB for the future.
RE: Brandon Harris?
I would not pay a steep price to move up for him. I’m still not convinced he’s an ideal starting CB for us.
So when is somebody going to make a video montage of all the draft eye candy? I missed AJ Green’s GF yesterday and the SF war room just now.
@Tommy:
RE: cornerbacks
Anyone left that you think could be a starting CB for us? Or any favorites still out there?
Adam,
Probably the brief eye candy enjoyment for me the last 2 days has been Dalton’s gf.
It was like my eyes were being sucked into a black hole.
@Adam S:
Haha I was scouring the Internet today for a pic of AJ Green’s girlfriend at the draft. I missed her too and I want to see her “painted on dress” that goes “all the way down to her hips”.
Glad to see ARZ go with RB. Trade partner.
Wow, Cardinals already admitting Beanie was a big mistake.
Beanie and Ryan Williams could be a really good combo. Think of CAR with Stewart and Williams.
Ryan Williams was the top-ranked offensive prospect left on my board. Not sure how much of a NEED it addresses for Arizona, but I like the pick based on value alone. He has the potential to be an elite runner.
Still not a good start here for us. Let’s hope the Birds figure out how to get some impact players on defense. Starting to not like this draft too much.
LOL my problem is I’m watching on my laptop so I have to switch back and forth between tabs so i miss a lot of the GF’s….I did see Dalton’s though. I actually noticed her yesterday when they showed a quick clip of him at home. Made sure I was around when his name was called again.
Is there away to login to this site Tommy? kinda annoying to have to fill in the stuff for each reply
Mort saying Ayers to Tennessee here.
THE FREAK.
Okay I had DVR’d the NFLN version of the first round. I checked AJ Green’s selection. Am I missing something? Sure his girlfriend is hot but she’s very conservatively dressed. I read that her dress was so tight it was “painted on” and that it stopped at her hips. Looked more like a classy, conservative skirt suit, complete with jacket.
Shit. Bruce Carter to the ‘Boys.
AZ not picking a QB 1st or 2nd may have a Kolb angle
Green’s gf didn’t do it for me. She had a nice body, but I don’t find darker women very attractive. I know that sounds racist, but I just don’t like their features.
Damn I wanted Carter…
Mallet to the ‘Skins here?
Kerrigan to the Redskins. Prince to the Giants. Carter to the Cowboys. Aaron Williams gone. Dowling gone.
I hate my life.
@ Eric….not racist, just preference.
Shit….damn cowboys actually drafting good, this is bullshit lol
Guys, I’ll look into the comments thing. Sorry about that issue. I don’t know an immediate solution.
Dexter Manley wasn’t available?
Help me out here. Didn’t the Eagles get Washington’s 2nd and 4th round picks for this year’s draft? Why aren’t the Eagles picking at #40? What am I missing here?
What if Bowers falls within reach? Worth a small trade-up in the second?
Tommy, do you think that Janoris Jenkins going to the supp. draft if that will happen is the reason why the birds doesnt seem to take an impact CB or do they just not like the prospects this year?
@John Scott
I got mixed up too. We got their 2nd and 4th last year (Nate Allen in the 2nd). This year just their 4th.
Has the lockout helped any team more than the Skins? That 2nd round pick would have been burning a hole in their pocket.
@John Scott – We got their 2nd last year and a conditional pick this year, either their 3rd or 4th round pick.
Eagles have WAS’s 4th rounder. We had their 2nd last year.
Non-draft. Temporary stay granted and lockout back on
Eagles will go O-line again in the 2nd, possibly Wisniewski, and it will be Tatergeddon
2 rd was last year
I don’t think Janoris Jenkins being in the Supp Draft affects our plans. We’ll go for vet CB. Might still add CB in the next couple of rounds.
@ Tommy….I think there must be a way because the one guy up at the top has that logo (Temple??) next to his name. either way not a huge deal, just more convenient.
Who are Eagles targets at this point?
“Who are Eagles targets at this point?”
Andrew Luck?
Thanks, yes, time just has been flying by so quickly… wow, I just lost a year! hahahaha
Eagles could add Wiz and it would make some sense. Watkins is the RG of the future. Wiz would be C of the future.
I’d prefer to go elsewhere, but that wouldn’t be a terrible move.
I love tatergeddon…wait, are they the one with the one armed drummer?
@ Adam S — maybe we should be asking “mcare89”
@Philanova
I wouldnt touch Bowers until round 4, at the earliest. He’s Cornelius Ingram Redux. If you want a 1st round talent that has fallen, take Greg Romeus. At least he’s a year removed from his injury.
My Targets
– Bowers (if medical)
– Martez Wilson
– Mikel LeShore
– Davon House
All things being equal, I want Wilson or House
That said, I wouldnt take Romeus until round 4 either.
Eagles targets?
DT Stephen Paea
LB Martez Wilson
CB Brandon Harris
S Marcus Gilchrist
RB Taiwan Jones
@ netherman…
You’re on report for that comment. Make one “Pour Some Sugar On Me” joke and you’re on double secret probation.
Titus Young to DET. Good.
@ Manna I’m with you, if he would just show his face around here again lol but there is also -Triumph- more recently.
-Triumph- how’d you get the logo? were you able to login eerrrr what?
Nice pick for Detroit. Stretch the field with some DeSean-esque potential.
It was exact value on my board, too. #44 player overall at the #44 pick.
I don’t know, Tommy, I think a pouring sugar-related comment would bring on hysteria.
Ahh Barry.
Best I ever saw.
I don’t undertsand what Mayhew/Schwartz are doing in Detroit. I get Fairly. BPA. Was WR really the #1 need in Detroit?
I’m happy to see Marvin Austin slide, but he better not be our pick.
Man, I really like what the Lions are doing. If they can get some OL talent this team is going to be dangerous for a loooong time.
@ ATG…
Now you’re on the list. My eyes are on you mister.
Anybody got a return specialist in mind? Seeing the highlight of Titus Young returning the kick made me think that we could use a player (CB? WR? RB?) who could take on the KR duties. I don’t think Desean’s PR talents should go unused, but perhaps a KR/PR could give him a brief respite.
LOVE the reception for Barry! by far my favorite non-eagle player ever. I actually clapped myself….at work….in the middle of a mall….got some strange looks
Paea here for the Broncos? I think it has to be one of the next two for them.
Is CB Van Dyke a RS?? Also what range should that guy become an option for any team? I don’t know much about him other than being fast.
I’d like to throw a late rounder at San Fran for Ted Ginn. I’d like to have a dedicated KR/PR, and not lose much from DeSean.
Shaky Smithson is a good return specialist out of Utah. Wouldn’t mind expelling a later-round choice on him.
Mostly because his name is Shaky fucking Smithson.
@Kammich
Shaky has the same middle name as Jerry Jones and Eli Manning, weird.
I like Taiwan Jones as a return man and backup RB for us.
Did I just see John Lynch chillin down there with Rahim Moore? Gave him a hug before heading to the stage.
I think Lynch is there because he’s announcing the Bucs 2nd round pick.
RS? Jorrick Calvin
(laughter dies down)
Jeremy Kerley
Cecil Shorts
Shaky F’ing Smithson
Guys on NFLN giving Dawkins mad respect.
Hey Tommy, what are the chances the Eagles trade up for Brandon Harris, and who might trade with them? I am sweating over here.
How can the “Ultimate Fan” be a Broncos fan from Brooklyn? Fraud chant would have been nice there.
Don’t care for the value of the Franklin pick, there. Had him graded in the mid-late 3rd. #85 player on my board.
And seeing as Denver was once seriously looking at Bowers at #2 overall, and just passed on him with consecutive picks in the 2nd… is it fair to say that we’re going to see him drop into the 4th, 5th?
I’m an Eagles fan in the Dallas Metroplex. Sometimes life just takes you places…
If the ‘Skins and Giants take corners before we pick we will have confirmation that this entire off season has been arranged just to screw with us.
Wow, a big reach on a TE.
aww no tatergeddon 🙁
Who is the fastest player on the board? That’s who is next.
Bad pick by Spags.
Wiz to STL.
2nd round breaking well for PHI.
Wonder if Uncle Steve told Al to pick him.
Tommy, as per the dude on Twitter. It’s not Spags, it’s Josh McDaniels.
Stefen Wisniewski runs a 4.21 40.
heh… so much for my guess
I don’t know that Wisniewski is better than McGlynn, so I’m ok with the Iggles not getting him
Who gave Mike Shanahan permission to acquire more draft picks for Washington? I kinda liked the days when they never had any.
To piggyback on something another poster wrote this morning (Kolb to Arizona. Drafting Peterson allows AZ to trade DRC), could we get them into a bidding war with Buffalo (Kolb to the Bills, drafting Aaron Williams, allowing them to trade Byrd or McKelvin)?
Anyone else thinking OAK might be a trade partner for Kolb? They need a QB badly and they love giving up their picks….
Redskins traded back with Colts, so they are getting more picks?!? Did something happen to Allen?
Heads-up, Spads will have Mudd in the studio later today
Reports that Raiders are offering a #1 in 2012 for a 2nd now. Would Howie be interested?
Rhino,
God I hope so. I’d wash the gasoline off of me.
Other than Tyron Smith, I think Ijalana had the most upside in this draft
Thanks for the heads up, nicolajNN
The best way to get Manning to sign a good deal is to show him that you mean business with two good tackles.
I still think he is going to Zona.
I’m thinking trade down. With Harris being small, and Marsh and Burton falling, they can get picks and still get a good RCB. That’s presuming Johnathan Joseph isn’t already in the bag.
Mcud,
You suck. I just spit my iced tea all over myself laughing at your last comment. Now I have to get up to get a paper towel.
2nd (or 3rd if you count Williams) CB gone with Gilchrist.
Ben Ijalana to the Colts has him going to a team where I won’t feel dirty rooting for him to succeed.
First second round pick out of Villanova since Howie Long.
Natrain!
Natrone Means business.
He’s outta hereeee!
Goddell never heard of Natrone Means Business? For shame…
Well if it’s Tatergeddon we’re after they could always draft Pinkston… just his name alone, plus the fact that it’s another O-lineman, would do it
At least I can cheer for Gilchrist. SD is a good landing spot.
Gilchrist to SD 🙁
If Howie doesn’t take Oakland’s #1 next year for a #2 this year I will be VERY upset.
Is there anybody to be excited about here? There are a number of players that I am interested in, but nobody that screams outstanding pick.
Hoping that the skins trade back again.
Who is going to announce our 2nd rounder? I nominate Antone Davis…
is Paea BPA right now?
Jon Harris
Getting the Raiders 1 for next year would be ideal.
If not, I really like Stephen Paea.
Martez Wilson still fascinates me. And there are a couple of interesting CBs.
Troy Vincent
I like some of the players, but I would like a #1 next year even more. I don’t think the Raiders are better than .500 in 2011.
Reid is all in. I don’t think he can afford to trade for picks next year.
Vincent would be hilarious, as we didn’t draft him. I would have thought it was limited to players you drafted, not guys anybody drafted.
@ -TRIUMPH-
How’d you get an avatar pic? Is there a way to sign in so I don’t have to retype my username/email every time I want to post?
It is Vincent, and half these guys were drafted by other teams.
Maybe Vincent and Goodall can work out a quick CBA backstage.
Guess I hadn’t noticed.
It’s Vincent… here’s a list of all the players who will announce.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/21/retired-players-will-announce-second-round-draft-picks/
The Bucs line is set for the next 5 years unless all 4 don’t pan out.
2 1st round DE/DTs and 2 2nd round DE/DTs in the last two years.
How bout that giants eye candy there gentlemen?!?!?!
“my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard….”
hahaha
trade to Raiders would be great!
I like Brandon Harris here. I have no idea what CB vets the Eagles are talking about internally.
I think the fumes from the gasoline is making you light headed, that’s why you didn’t notice
ATG I wonder how much things would have been different if he had got that job.
Marvin Austin to the giants here
Odd draft for the Eagles to just sit tight through the first two rounds.
This is the part where the Skins make me cuss.
not sure why my avatar appears on this site but I think my e-mail address is associated with my avatar at a few sites.
Without doing the research, it looks like a grand total of five presenters were not drafted by the team they are representing. Thats from gasoline soaked eyes though…
Its certainly not half…
Thank god Marvin Austin is gone. I hate the thought of him as an Eagle.
pick traded to chicago
Bears trying to get in front of Eagles here? Or Shanahan just trying to get more picks?
Giants are loading up on the high ceiling DL.
Hate to say it but the Giantsmdraftmismlooking great.
who turned mike mayock into jamie dukes?
@ -Triumph-
Do you still have to type in all your information for each post?
Even if they do have a veteran CB in their hip pocket, I still want one this round or next. We are always one hit away from Hanson starting and I never feel comfortable w/him on the outside.
Jamie Dukes, glasses w. non corrective lenses don’t make you smarter.
Can someone tell the Redskins that just because they keep trading down, doesn’t make them anywhere near as good as the Patriots…
Mcud sorry, I wasn’t trying to be a jerk. Just seemed like half the presenters I could remember were not drafted by their teams. Marshal Faulk and that other guy. And what’s his name too.
Bears take Paea.
there goes Paea
That reminds me…has Tommie Harris been picked up by anybody?
COME ON TRADE DOWN WITH OAKLAND!
Or Wilson/House
Damn, with Paea off the board, if the Raiders are serious about trading a 2012 first I pull the trigger.
Ryan Mallett is still available… how about taking him to learn behind Vick?
Yeah, whether they know they are getting Awesome-O in free agency or not; they need at least 2 CBs drafted for when Nnamdi and Asante get 2 years older and they’re off the team.
I think the other guy was the presenter for Houston… or maybe he was what’s his name.
@ Me Grimlock
No worries. We’re all friends here.
Jarrett?
Jarrett this early? 🙁
The match is lit…
Balls
C’mon Brandon Harris!
Jaiquawn Jarrett. Hmmmm. Not exactly excited about it.
safety from Temple…kinda surprised it isnt House…
i was kinda preferencing the kid from Rutgers later
Arrrghhhh!!!!
Tell my wife I loved her.
Well I didn’t know that Jarret was the Captain of the “All Chuckie Team”.
I like this pick. We need back 4 help
Jarrett is physical.
We definitely got tougher.
Jaiquawn Jarrett???
Love the player, but pick 54? Is Bill Polian picking for us?
Pick makes sense I guess. S is one of the positions I felt they needed to upgrade.
I hate this years draft. They aren’t extracting value at all.
@mcud…
That’s funny.
so much for making any sort of BPA argument
If Andy was truly going all in he’d be trading up, trading up, trading up.
still may get tatergeddon if they keep picking ahead of their “perceived” value.
Jarrett? Hm. Well. At least the dude can hit!
we got Temples 2nd best player!
Who is coming into the box when Allen and Jarrett are on the field? They both can’t handle that pounding.
One of the worst value picks of the draft so far in Jarrett(-65). I like his intangibles and potential as a box safety down the road. I just don’t think it was a priority need, especially considering that Jarrett and Coleman are practically the same player.
It almost seems like Andy can’t find anybody that wants to trade up when we are selecting so he is forced to reach for players he loves that could normally be had later.
Oh well, like I said to myself yesterday ‘In Andy Reid I trust’……he is sure to putting that to test this weekend though
@Tommy. Why is Harris falling? Size?
@Everyone else. Obviously retooling 2ndary and Q is gone. Theoretically, if Lindley moves up to even nickel, then 3 DBs will be first or 2nd year.
Not a fan of taking him at 54
More beer.
Would a 3 and a 4 get us back in here? I can’t wait this long.
So Jarrett fits a need better than a first round talent at LB in Houston?
I hate that pick. Awful value. Big reach.
Safety from…. Temple…. UGH
Hope Brandon Harris doesn’t pan out.
And now the Patriots are going to make some genius pick that pisses me off. But huzzah, we got Jarrett! :-/
at work…cant drink…..doesnt mean I cant go smoke a joint…..I need calming……
I would have felt Jarret was much better value at #84.
I think I like Vereen more than most people, but I still had him behind LeShoure and Taiwan Jones among the remaining backs. Interesting pick for NE.
Oh well, at least the lock out has ended. What? They did? I need some cappicola.
There’s a reason for this, but I don’t get taking a bad value guy who plays the same position as Allen and Coleman. This is stubborn, and we’ll see if it’s a good kind of stubborn. Less chance Mikell comes back.
At this rate, we’re going to panic that we don’t have a 6th round pick, and go ahead and use our 3rd rounder on whomever we were going after in round 6. Then, its UDFAs from there on out…
Absolutely no chance Q comes back now.
So far the Eagles have picked 2 of my favorite players at their respective positions, but while the value for Watkins was about right based on all projections, Jarrett feels like an early pick. Maybe they just didn’t want to risk losing him.
RE: Brandon Harris
I think teams question whether he’s a starter or slot corner. Real good underneath, but I saw too many people run by him. That bugged me. I think he’s real good for Cover 2.
This is the first draft of the AR era where I am seriously pissed off. This class so far stinks in my view. One guy is old and will retire right when most guys are reaching their peak, the other guy lacks anything tangible to be excited about.
Last yer Howie worked the draft board masterfully. This year draft board is working him.
@Adam
Where the hell do you work?! No booze, but weed is allowed? Is Jimmy Smith there?
Jarrett isn’t even listed on NFL.com’s “prospects” on their draft tracker!! Awful value. Bryan Smith, Matt McCoy, Jon Harris anyone?!?!?!
@ATG must be a restaurant.
I like the talent that Detroit has added, they’ve gotten plus-value with every one of their picks.
But does Jim Schwartz realize that Titus Young and Mikel LeShoure can’t line up at LT and RT and keep Stafford alive? All these picks go for naught if you can’t keep Stafford healthy.
LOL!

Phone Blowing Up Right Now Guess A Safety Was Taken How Is Anyone Surprised By This? They’ve Taken A Safety Almost Every Year I’ve Been Here
Kammich
I’ve got a RT that I would happily trade Detroit.
Kammich, right on with Detroit. If they fail it will because they couldn’t keep Stafford clean
Maybe we should just send AR out for a cheesesteak in round 2 every year…
Don’t know if you guys talked about this already but it’s very interesting to me that the Cards did not pick a QB in Rd 2 -assuming there was someone there they liked. A deal for Kolb possibly?
Hopefully this isn’t a dumb question… who’s the old dude on with Spads and Merrill?
Greg Little is the Jimmy Smith of WR’s. The guy is an awesome talent…but might be a punk.
Greg was one of the few left that I coveted.
@ToastJenkins
Weren’t DeSean, McCoy, Kolb and Laws all 2nd Rounders??!?!?!?
WTF are you talking about?
Of course, I had no idea he’d go this early. I thought round 3 at the earliest.
Dewey,
Cant tell if you are serious or just not funny.
Not trying to be funny. I think Eagles round 1 and 2 picks are usually quite strong.
This could still be a good draft if we sign Nhamdi.
Can’t help but like what Houston is doing to fortify their defense. Addressing all 3 levels of the D with very talented players. Nice draft for the Texans so far.
Last year these guys are 5th rounders
Guys I like for RD3
– Davon House
– Curtis Brown
– Martez Wilson
– Alex Green
– Kendell Hunter
– Taiwon Jones
@Triumph
Agreed. Dreadful draft this year. Makes you wonder why Belicheck is accumulating later picks….
The Jarrett pick is still early, but I understand it a bit more the more I think about it. I’ll write a column out tonight.
If I see Mama Dietz and those gnarled old hands one more time…
I don’t quite get Washington’s draft strategy. Yes they needed depth. But don’t they want to contend this year? They didn’t take a QB.
@ Kevin…
That is a good list of players. I mentioned Curtis Brown to someone on the phone tonight.
I’m pretty sure the Eagles are going to trade up in the third to take a player from Community College of Philadelphia
really hoping we can move up from 84…i need something to salvage the night.
otherwise i’ll be borrowing some of mcud’s volatile liquids
Goodbye Ronnie Brown. Miami just got your clone.
I actually called that pick right in my 7-round mock(unfortunately I had Miami making that selection in the 3rd, not the 2nd).
Both picks are good solid players. Neither is ideal value, but both are very safe picks. The problem is our roster is full of these types of guys. What we need is some special talent and/or big time upside, especially on defense. I’d love to get Martez Wilson or Justin Houston some how.
Are you guys still having to sign in every time you comment?
my take on the guy from Temple… he was the last safety on the board that the Eagles had any interest in. And because of the lack of safeties available of quality, and the lack of anyone else who really stood out, they just went with the guy they think who can help.
Remaining players that I covet:
RB Dion Lewis
RB Kendall Hunter
RB Jacquizz Rodgers
RB Taiwan Jones
RB Demarco Murray
RB Alex Green
RB Bilal Powell
WR Randall Cobb
WR Leonard Hankerson
WR Austin Pettis
WR Cecil Shorts III
C Alex Linnenkohl
C Brandon Fusco
C Jake Kirkpatrick
C Kris O’Dowd
DE Allen Bailey
DE Sam Acho
DE Greg Romeus
OLB Justin Houston
OLB Mark Herzlich
OLB Mason Foster
OLB K.J. Wright
ILB Martez Wilson
ILB Quan Sturdivant
ILB Greg Jones
ILB Casey Matthews
CB Brandon Burton
CB Johnny Patrick
CB Davon House
CB Chimdi Chekwa
CB Buster Skrine
CB Curtis Brown
CB Curtis Marsh
CB Jalil Brown
I have to enter name and e-mail address every time I comment. I don’t have to type it, really, I can just click in each box and it’s already there for me to select, so it’s not so terrible for me.
Yes Tommy.
—
GB taking a WR. Driver may retire and Jones is a FA.
actually, I have to click twice in each box
I’d be fine with Curtis Brown in the 3rd. He’s our most athletic CB from day 1.
I’m keeping an eye on Greg Romeus and Marcus Cannon. Wonder how much their medical issues make them fall.
@ Manna, the old guy is “Philly Billy” Werndl (pronounced ‘Wern-dell), he used to work for a scouting service (sorry, can’t remember who), I ran into him while I lived in So. Cal, I listened to him on XTRA Sports out of San Diego. I think he did that gig for a number of years, 10-12 or so, and now, well, I guess he’s back east, maybe he’s working another draft service again, not sure. Hope it helps.
Heheh…Buster Skrine…sounds dirty.
Tremendous value pick for GB. I guess Jones will be gone via FA. Now they can commit Jordy Nelson to being the slot guy and have Cobb pick up all of his return/trickery duties.
The Bruce Carter pick to the Cowboys puzzles me. They’ve already got relatively young OLBs in Ware and Spencer. Carter isn’t a great fit anyway.
Wonder Carter was a panic pick after both Dowling and Williams went off the board right before they picked. Also wonder if that makes Curtis Brown their choice here in a few minutes.
@John Scott – thanks
I’d just like us to come out of this draft with at least 2 CBs. Asomugha or no Asomugha, I’d like some young guys to work into the system.
Randall Cobb had an attractive ladyfriend amongst his posse.
@ ATG….I own a lottery kiosk inside a mall, that is very slow….
Hmm, Cincy runs a 43 base D, don’t they? Really didn’t expect to see Moch go to a 43 team.
John Elway had a chew in. haha nice spitter going on there.
Jeez. Justin Houston must have tested positive for drain cleaner.
Wilson/Matthews I think will be our next pick…wish we could somehow pick up a 3rd rounder to snag Brown too.
Sooo… What’s everybody drinking?
Victory Lager over here.
drinkin’ some Fosters oil drums.
I love Nate Irving. He is Ernie Simms with instincts.
Speaking of Ernie, I think I last saw him chasing cars on I-95
Orange slurpee with soft serve ice cream……creamsicle
ballin’!!!
Really like the Sheppard fit for Buffalo. Could be a David Harris type in their 34, and he has the range to stay on the field in their nickel D.
Am I the only one who really prefers J. Joseph to Asamougha? He’s younger and is used to playing RCB not LCB.
Formaldehyde.
@Dewey
I want Joseph too. Younger + Cheaper. Use your money to sign Tulloch & resign your guys.
I prefer Nnamdi, but would be extremely happy with Joseph as a “consolation” prize.

RIP Marion Barber in Dallas
Not enough footballs to go around for all the RBs in Dallas.
Bud Light Lime. I’m on a diet… which means diet beer. 🙁 But the moment it gets nice and warm out in the spring I get an immediate hankering for BLL and Corona. Just reminds me of drinking on the beach.
I think Dallas is drafting for us.
Jerry Jones knows how to pick stars, but I don’t think he knows how to build a roster that is tailored to a system. He makes some strange “fit” picks.
I didn’t want Murray, good to see him go to Dallas. Hunter/Jones still on the board.
There goes Wilson to New Orleans. Really like their draft.
Bills having a great defensive draft, IMO.
I was growing increasingly intrigued by Martez Wilson falling down the 3rd round. He was the highest ranked player left on my board. The Saints have smited me!
Hate seeing Wilson go to NO. Great pick for them. I suppose that means we have to go RB with this pick.
@Kammich
You been smote!
love Mudd
Mudd saying anything interesting? Got caught on the phone with a friend.
Ridley to NE … weird pick.
What did Mudd say about potentially shifting OL around?
Apparently New England wasnt satisfied with a productive committee of UDFA’s like Woodhead and the Lawfirm. They’ve now added a scatback and a bruiser.
If this were 95% of the other teams in the NFL, I’d be screaming “idiots don’t know how to draft!” But its New England. So they’re probably gonna end up being right.
as if i needed one more reason to hate the Pats…
the more I read and see of Mudd the more excited I get about the OL.
if Ryan Mallett had Tom Brady’s hair he’d be UBER QUARTERBACK. he’d be like Jason Voorhees in “Jason X.”
I can’t stop picturing this now.
basically everybody is playing for their position (doesn’t care who started last year or where they come from)…already watching video of senior bowl with watkins (encouraging) and had really positive comments about him. feels really good about what he has to work with.
Papa Watkins = Awesome!
Watkins dad on now
@ Kammich…
Funny stuff.
Will Rackley to the Jags. Good for him.
Go Lehigh!
Any thoughts on Boling still hanging around?
I think Seattle really reached on Carpenter, but I LOVED Moffitt and had a 2nd-round grade on him for a team who employs a power running game. with Okung, Carpenter and Moffitt in tow, guys like Lynch and Forsett should be very happy.
Some targets for me:
RB Taiwan Jones
RB Alex Green
DT Drake Nevis
CB Davon House
CB Curtis Brown
LB Ross Homan
Outside name to watch…
LB Casey Matthews
they need Watkins’ dad as a regular feature lol
RE: Boling
Real surprised he’s still on the board. Great value at this point.
Here’s a stretch for a new nickname…
Mr. Danny Watkins… Sexual Chocolate?
@ ToastJ…
Any relation to Bob or Doug McKenzie?
tommy, do you think any of sturdivant, foster or wilson would be solid fits at LB?
Sturdivant would be good fit. Can play MLB or WLB. Foster isn’t a good fit in my mind. Not sure what Juan thinks.
Wilson? Martez already picked.
Tommy,
Boling is value at this point but what do you do with him? Plug him in at LG, kick out Herremans and trade Justice?
Sounds fun, huh. haha
Lawrence Wilson?
meant lawrence wilson from uconn.
I just want to hear Watkins trashtalk at the line…
“Take off, hosehead”
RB should be the next pick. Position of need. Correct value.
Curtis Brown, please please please. Or a RB at good value.
Well, even if TB takes a corner, Brown, Burton or House will be there.
Get another corner in the 4th and I’ll feel better.
Traded to BAL
Oh….FIDDLESTICKS!
Trade back. This draft is doing everything it can to underwhelm me, I think.
I’m warming up to the picks to this point (good players, just questionable value, IMO), but right now I’m just feeling very “meh” about this draft.
I hate that the giants got jernigan. Him and Nicks will give us problems for years.
I’m going to kill someone! I actually like Reid, too. The player… although I like the coach too.
The Eagles know there is value in the 6th round so they had to get in there.
moved back a few slots for the Raven’s 6th pick
Did they trade back? Or did they get something next year?
maybe now use that extra juice to get 4th up to end of 3rd and snag someone else before people get a chance to sleep on it
I see
Good. They can use Baltimore’s 6th to take Jaiquawn Jarrett.
Wait…
No mention of the Raiders taking the combines fastest man? good old Al had to get his pick in at some point.
Giants will lose Smith though which hurts them. They were going to replace him at some point here.
Eagles need to start trading up with some of these later picks. They don’t need 11 rookies again. 6 will not make the team.
I hope we trade a 5 for a 4 next year and a 6 for a 5 next year. We don’t have that man openings.
@ Baloophi…
Great comment.
If we get a 2nd round player here, the Jarrett pick isn’t so bad. If we get a 5th round player…
Trade up for what?
Guys…picks in the late rounds don’t have to make the team. They can be on the Practice Squad.
Trade out, maybe…
Is this Mama Dietz commercial one of the worst ever?
We’re on deck.
Let’s get Tommy Alex Green, Taiwan Jones, or Kenrick Ellis so we can feel a little better about value…
Curtis Marsh…
Trevard Lindley redux?
what do we know about this dude?
Curtish Marsh it is. A CB, although I don’t know all too much about him.
Eagles pick CB Curtis Marsh, CB from Utah State. Good pick. We needed to add a big, fast CB. Good value. Lots of upside.
CB? Why do something like that?
Is he really better than Burton or Brown?
9 inch hands
gonna have to plead ignorance on Marsh…
did house get 13 girls pregnant in college or something?
I’m happy with this. Position of need. Good Value. Starting potential. Clearly not playing for us in 2011. However he gets a stinger so we can red-shirt him
Marsh is a raw athlete who has played two years at CB. 4.4 speed, 6′, 37″ vertical leap. A lot of athletes like that can’t play the position, but what’s encouraging about him is that he actually played well against guys like Titus Young. He’s a developmental and not a guy who can step in next year.
@Toast why would Big Red care about that? He is a mormon isn’t he.
I don’t know how much you can expect from any rookie this year in terms of contribution. The lockout could last quite awhile, if the appeal holds up. No rookie camps, OTAs, maybe even mini-camps. Pretty essential for rooks to be there early and often to make an impact in year 1, especially guys taken after round 1.
Developmental kids and those with injuries might make more sense this year than they usually do…
Would anybody be upset if the Eagles selected another CB with pick #104 (the Redskins’ former pick, early 4th round)?
I like the Marsh pick, but considering the quantity of remaining picks the Eagles have (2 4’s, 2 5’s, 1 6, and 3 7’s), I wouldn’t mind them nabbing a second CB to try to make certain they address the position since they weren’t able to grab one of the higher pedigreed players.

Curtis Marsh. Does he return punts and/or kicks?
I’m not sure how I feel about this draft yet. Strangely remorseful yet somewhat intriged.
Early thoughts on Curtis Marsh.

Based on draft grades they’ve picked a 2nd and two 4ths, enough reaching to scrub down an elephant. But it matters what people think in a few years. Heckert seemed to have a better sense about where people would go. This draft seems to be the team locking in on guys that they know will be on the board without having to think much about other teams.
Yeah, I’m definitely calibrated to the Tom Heckert “Know your Enemy” type of drafting style; i.e. good guesses as to when the player you want will be taken, so you can swoop in and steal him.
Howie seems to be of the Bill Polian school of “I Know What I Want, so F You if you don’t agree” thought.
I miss Tom. I’ll get used to Howie I guess.
@ian no 2
This draft is unique because not a single team satisfied any of its needs via free agency. So suddenly they have to worry about addressing more positions than usual. So they have to reach to make sure they get the guys they want because if they miss on a position in the draft there’s no guarantee they satisfy it in free agency. It’s crazy but I can see why and the Eagles aren’t the only ones making crazy, reach picks.
Some of you guys are basing value on where media people that dont work in the NFL think they will go. If you read in your sporting news draft guide that someone is a first rounder and every team passes on him twice and he lasts to the third round, HE DIDNT DROP!!! That means that NFL front offices always had him rated as a third rounder.
@mcud
I really don’t think this is a Howie vs. Heckert type of change. Look at last year’s draft. You didn’t see this last year so much. I think it’s a product of the environment and the Eagles are not the only ones reacting in this way. It’s a whole new animal and teams have to adapt. Adapt or risk making critical mistakes. You’ve seen the crazy spot teams are taking players. Carpenter in the first? Locker 8th? I mean, there might have been a few teams that coveted Carptender or Locker and were waiting until later to take them. All of a sudden, they’re gone! All bets are off, man. You can’t ASSUME that anyone will be available in the round you expect them to be. You’ve gotta be bold or miss your shot.
to clarify, my previous post was in reference to the lockout and no CBA and no free agency and no trades, etc., before the draft
HP, Do you know any football people who thought Jaiquawn Jarrett was coming off the board soon?
Great point Mannafromkevin.
Good post MFK.
I’ve already heard there was a feeling among some NFL scouts that JJ was a reach at 54. The point is that this is a player the Eagles really locked onto and didn’t want to risk losing.
I hope they made a wise choice.
It isn’t a horrible choice, but the value angle is weird.
Popping in Utah State game to study. I’ll post notes tomorrow.
MFK, Good observation but Locker and Carpenter are bad picks. I wouldn’t hold up the current Seahawks and the Titans as models of how to run an organization. The Giants and the Patriots pick value under any circumstance. I prefer rooting for a smart team to rooting for a team that fills holes defensively like a perennial fantasy league runner up.
If you want to save a few bucks by dumping Mikell, take the risk that Coleman, one of your young backups, or a free agent will step up rather than take a 4th rounder in the 2nd. And there’s what I call the “Te’o Syndrome” where you are smitten with a guy who is graded for the late round because scout’s assessment of his abilities and college performance, and you absolutely have to have him and reach for them, despite the fact that 45 teams somehow found a way to win the Super Bowl without Te’o and Jarrett and none of them wore midnight green.
to make that more clear: “Te’o Syndrome” where you are smitten by the character or maturity of a guy the scouts graded for the late round because of his abilities and college performance, and you absolutely have to have him and reach for them
