Day 3 Targets & Discussion Thread

Posted: April 30th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 321 Comments »

Simply put, I want 2 LBs and a RB today.

I’d like a DT and RS, but I’m more flexible on those spots.

Eagles have:

4th – 104
4th – 120
5th – 149
5th – 153
6th – 191
7th – 228
7th – 236
7th – 239

I’m open to trading pick 104 if we can get a good return on it. Some teams are in love with a player on the board and will act aggressively to go get him. There is no one player the Eagles “must” have.

Who are some guys I’m hoping to land:

RB Taiwan Jones
RB Kendall Hunter
RB Delone Carter

LB Ross Homan
LB Quan Sturdivant
LB Casey Matthews
LB Lawrence Wilson
LB Brian Rolle
LB Doug Hogue

DT Ollie Ogbu
DT Cedric Thornton
DT Lawrence Guy

DE/LB Chris Carter

WR/RS Jeremy Kerley
WR/RS Dwayne Harris
WR/RS Cecil Shorts
WR/RS Ronald Johnson

OC Brandon Fusco
OG Daniel Kilgore
OG Clint Boling
OL Jason Pinkston

Fantasy Mock for Day 3

4 – RB Taiwan Jones
4 – LB Ross Homan
5 – LB Brian Rolle
5 – C Brandon Fusco
6 – DT Ollie Ogbu
7 – LB Malcolm Smith
7 – OG Daniel Kilgore
7 – RB Allen Bradford

I never got to ask this up to the draft, but what do you think about Derrick Locke?

Good morning from sunny Los Angeles, my fellow football nerds! My wife was about to roll her eyes when the alarm went off this morning and then I reminded her about the royal wedding…

Can Taiwan Jones last till the Eagles pick???????

  4. 4 Baloophi said at 12:05 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Also, Tommy… no love for Sam Acho? Or does Phillip Hunt allow us to look elsewhere here?

  5. 5 arby said at 12:08 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Baloophi – loved your comment yesterday about how to use our new 6th rd pick!

  6. 6 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:10 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Sam Acho isn’t a significant upgrade on Sapp, Tapp, Teo, etc. I like him a lot and am surprised he slid this far.

If we add a DE, needs to be a veteran or developmental guy. I listed Carter because he could be a LB and situational rusher if we wanted that.

  7. 7 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:11 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    RE: Derrick Locke

Good player. Might fit us well. Durability issues, but has big play ability. good athlete. I won’t complain if we take him in the 5th or 6th.

  8. 8 Baloophi said at 12:11 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Arby

Thanks! And your screen-name makes me drool for Horsey Sauce… but that happens 24/7 so it’s not exactly a controlled experiment.

Good morning from not so sunny saskatoon, saskatchewan, canada…..yes it is a real place lol

Back at work…..if you could call it that!

  10. 10 Baloophi said at 12:14 PM on April 30th, 2011:

There goes Searcy! He was one of your favorites, right, Tommy?

Also, I’m starting to smell a trade-down… lot of targets still out there…

  11. 11 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:14 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Glad to see Boling go. Hate that he’s a Bengal.

  12. 12 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:14 PM on April 30th, 2011:

  15. 15 Baloophi said at 12:18 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Adam S.

    Saskatoon! I love it!

I work with a self-proclaimed hoser who always talks about Medicine Hat… which looks like it’s a scant 200 miles (250 km?) from Saskatoon. Are you closer to Winnipeg or Edmonton?

  16. 16 Kevin said at 12:18 PM on April 30th, 2011:

In later rounds, I care a little less about positions and more about quality players. Obviously RB/LB are needs, but I’m fine with BPA.

  17. 17 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:19 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Acho gone.

Get Taiwan Jones. Or trade. Or LB.

  18. 18 arby said at 12:19 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Arby goes to Roy Rodgers…..
    Does that still even exist?

  19. 19 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:20 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Trade to Bucs.

  20. 20 Baloophi said at 12:20 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Trade! Good choice…

  21. 21 Kevin said at 12:22 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    AWESOME trade by Howie

  22. 22 Baloophi said at 12:22 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Picked up #116 and the Bucs 2012 4th…

  23. 23 Eric said at 12:22 PM on April 30th, 2011:

So I was watching the re-cap on NFL N of day 2. They were discussing Andy Dalton and showed the footage of him and his gf.

While they were talking about it someone in the background made a comment and they all laughed some.

I like the guys showing a human side and discussing the eye candy. 🙂

  24. 24 arby said at 12:23 PM on April 30th, 2011:

and we just get a 4th next year?????where’s the value?

  25. 25 Adam S. said at 12:23 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Baloophi

Ya Medicine Hat isn’t far from here at all. I’m closer to edmonton (5.5 hr) than winnepeg (8 hr).

What does he have to talk about Med Hat?!?! This isnt the most exciting place lol

  26. 26 Kevin said at 12:23 PM on April 30th, 2011:

We keep a 2011 4th + 2012 4th. More ammo for next year if we need it.

  27. 27 arby said at 12:23 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    oh, my bad.

  28. 28 nicolajNN said at 12:25 PM on April 30th, 2011:

  29. 29 nicolajNN said at 12:25 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Hah, never mind

  30. 30 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:26 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Good deal by Howie. 4th rounder next year for only moving down 12 spots. Like it.

We’ll still have good targets on the board.

  31. 31 Baloophi said at 12:27 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Adam S.

Medicine Hat is just a go-to place when he’s listing crazy Canadian towns… like Red Deer, Regina, and of course Flin Flon.

    http://www.cityofflinflon.com/

    But he’s from Guelph…

  32. 32 Baloophi said at 12:29 PM on April 30th, 2011:

When I was an east-coaster I remember you could only find Roy Rodgers on Turnpike/Parkway rest stops… still the case?

Also, had a craving for Friendly’s the other day and was sad to discover the closest one was in Ohio. And if you think I can construct my own Mr. Conehead you are sadly mistaken…

  36. 36 Adam S. said at 12:36 PM on April 30th, 2011:

ps love the trade, good job Howie. Hope he can stoke pile a couple more picks for next year. We are so young already that we don’t need a ton of rookies again this year. PS has some open spots though I’m sure

  39. 39 Jordan R said at 12:38 PM on April 30th, 2011:

  40. 40 Baloophi said at 12:39 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Adam S.

Moose Jaw! That’s another one he throws out there!

And I’ll be sure to put Onion Lake and Blubber Bay at the top of my vacation list…

haha nice work on the imdb link!

Ya Onion Lake is a beauty for a vacation……..uuuhhhh damn I cant even think of a suitable joke for it because its so bad haha

  46. 46 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:45 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Taiwan Jones may not be on Eagles board. He’s fallen for some reason. Brains? Character?

Eagles should only take him if he can handle our offense. If not, go get D Carter or K Hunter.

  47. 47 Kevin said at 12:47 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Eagles fan from Montreal!

Hunter got an 8 on the wonderlic, is he smart enough for our offense?

    @Tommy

Is that what you are surmising or hearing?

    re: T. Jones

  49. 49 Adam S. said at 12:48 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ amoore42

Too be fair I’ve been around eagles blitz for quite some time. Once it shut down I was force to roam the internet in search of a new home. No suitable place could be found. BGN was welcoming and accomadating but didn’t feel like ‘home’. Only 2 days ago I caught wind that Eagles blitz and been ressurected in the form of Iggles Blitz……I feel whole once again.

  50. 50 Baloophi said at 12:48 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Time for Oakland to do something stupid…

  51. 51 arby said at 12:50 PM on April 30th, 2011:

I’ve always thought Hunter could be a target because of his willingness to block – not my favorite “runner” – but also good at outlet passes.

  52. 52 Jordan R said at 12:50 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Adam S
Im assuming you’re Steve’s brother Adam? I think you graduated high school with my brother Geoff Ramler. So there are more people from the north end of saskatoon here than starting corners on our roster.

I would rather have D Carter or K Hunter over Taiwan Jones, but I really hope we get Brian Rolle at some point. He is my favorite player in the draft this year, just as Kurt Coleman was last year.

  53. 53 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:50 PM on April 30th, 2011:

No inside scoop on Jones. Just thinking something must be wrong for him to slide this far. Has 2nd/3rd round ability.

  54. 54 Baloophi said at 12:52 PM on April 30th, 2011:

I smell another trade down… or else the dog REALLY needs to go outside.

  55. 55 arby said at 12:54 PM on April 30th, 2011:

LOVE the booing for Philly at the draft!

  56. 56 dewey said at 12:54 PM on April 30th, 2011:

How about HOgue or Rolle here?

  57. 57 Dr. Ogrodnick said at 12:57 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Casey Mathews per spads

  58. 58 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:57 PM on April 30th, 2011:

LB Casey Matthews is the pick.

  59. 59 Eaglepride101 said at 12:57 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    I’m thinking Casey Matthews

  60. 60 arby said at 12:58 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Finally, good value.

  61. 61 Tommy Lawlor said at 12:58 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Matthews is a solid pick. Castillo’s kind of guy. Great motor. Best cover LB in the draft. Only so-so athlete, but good football player.

  62. 62 Eaglepride101 said at 1:01 PM on April 30th, 2011:

He could be a great Nickle backer. Maybe a LB who can cover TEs?

  63. 63 Jordan R said at 1:02 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Spadaro enjoys announcing the pick before its on TV WAY too much. I cant deal with him anymore. Did they have Merrill on with him analyzing picks? They really need to bring in someone with some actual knowledge.

  64. 64 ToastJenkins said at 1:03 PM on April 30th, 2011:

cant argue with the Matthews pick in the 4th.

    pick 120 coming up

  65. 65 Eric said at 1:05 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    I really liked Jalil Brown.

  66. 66 TEW! said at 1:05 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Mad we missed out on Hunter, but Mathews and Jones plus a future 4th will be a great 4th round.

  67. 67 Baloophi said at 1:05 PM on April 30th, 2011:

I’m thinking this next pick is Made in Taiwan…

  68. 68 Adam S. said at 1:07 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Jordan

You know what I think we’ve actually gone over this before over at eagles blitz, possibly about this same time last year. Ya Geoff was a year, maybe 2 older than me. Small world….who else from the NS is on this site? out of curiousity

Good pick of Casey Matthews….I can handle that.

  69. 69 ToastJenkins said at 1:07 PM on April 30th, 2011:

listening to Jarrett’s presser. cant decide who is dumber…him or the reporters asking questions

  70. 70 Eric said at 1:08 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Burton and House still available.

  71. 71 ian no 2 said at 1:08 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Like the Matthews pick in general, but the folks at CBS/ Draft Scout say:

“Slightly stiff in the hips, doesn’t have great change of direction ability and could struggle in man coverage vs. NFL tight ends and backs”

which I trust less than Tommy &co, seriously, but just sayin’, also:

“Rarely beat the block once picked up on the blitz. “

  72. 72 Jordan said at 1:09 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Kicker???

  73. 73 ToastJenkins said at 1:09 PM on April 30th, 2011:

  74. 74 Eric said at 1:09 PM on April 30th, 2011:

A kicker? Interesting. I actually like the balls here.

  75. 75 Dr. Ogrodnick said at 1:09 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    and its a kicker

  76. 76 Baloophi said at 1:09 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Oof.

  80. 80 Damon said at 1:10 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Are you kidding me they took a kicker in the 4th

  81. 81 Baloophi said at 1:10 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Apparently Akers just tweeted: “It’s been fun, Philly!”

  82. 82 Tommy Lawlor said at 1:11 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Alex Henery from Nebraska was a great college kicker. I saw him make some incredible kicks. He has a huge leg and was clutch. I’m okay with this.

  83. 83 amoore42 said at 1:12 PM on April 30th, 2011:

So glad I’m not in TATE right now.

Just when they were starting to feel better about themselves with the Casey Matthews pick.

  84. 84 Jordan R said at 1:12 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Goodbye Akers, its been a good ride

  85. 85 Adam S. said at 1:13 PM on April 30th, 2011:

haha I can’t help but laugh at this. I’m blown away NFLN actually had footage to put up of him.

Sad to see Akers leave 🙁

  86. 86 Baloophi said at 1:13 PM on April 30th, 2011:

He’s also a one-cut, change-of-pace runner who can catch and block so it’s not a total waste.

Speaking of waste, have to take the pup out… keep working those phones, boys! I expect a trade back into the end of the round for an equipment manager.

  87. 87 mcud said at 1:14 PM on April 30th, 2011:

If the kid can kick AND punt, then we just drafted ourselves an extra gameday active roster spot.

  88. 88 Eric said at 1:14 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Let’s put it this way. When my dad, who isn’t even an Eagles fan, hears the name and says, “Wow, this kid is great”; I kind of have to trust that the Eagles made a good pick.

  89. 89 Adam S. said at 1:14 PM on April 30th, 2011:

The NFLN panel reaction was priceless….. I hope AR knows what he’s doing.

  90. 90 Adam S. said at 1:16 PM on April 30th, 2011:

  94. 94 amoore42 said at 1:17 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Good point mcud. Tommy do you know if Henrey can punt?

  95. 95 Kevin said at 1:21 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Jones a Raider. Smart pick for them.
Maybe we trade for Michael Bush?

  96. 96 TEW! said at 1:21 PM on April 30th, 2011:

I really hate to lose Jones, but if the kid can punt AND kick getting him potentially opens up an extra roster spot.

  97. 97 ian no 2 said at 1:22 PM on April 30th, 2011:

I have no problem with using a pick on a kicker after you’ve stockpiled picks, something the Patriots do, and getting the best guy in the draft.

But Banner and the boys just love the break the news to you on draft day when you ask for an extra helping of supper.. first Mikell and now Akers. Reminds me of when TO and Westbrook were asking for more porridge and they used a 2nd on Reggie Brown and a 3rd on Ryan Moats, never having a spot for Moats when BWest was satiated. Then they went and drafted Herremans in the 4th and Trent Cole in the 5th after McCoy in the 2nd, a typical Eagles draft.

  98. 98 Adam S. said at 1:23 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Maclin tweeted that he’s seen Henery kick FG’s on kickoffs. When a WR seems pumped about a K….I think I will be alright with it.

  99. 99 ian no 2 said at 1:25 PM on April 30th, 2011:

& Henery’s actually NOT a reach based on what I’m reading

  100. 100 Kevin said at 1:28 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Mayock just described Henery more.
    I don’t get the outcry.

We BEAT the Super Bowl Champions if Akers doesn’t choke.

  101. 101 Baloophi said at 1:29 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Henery jerseys already sold out in the Eagles’ shop.

  102. 102 amoore42 said at 1:29 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Amen Kevin.

  103. 103 Tommy Lawlor said at 1:30 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Several guys in college do both Punts and KOs. Doesn’t mean they will do it in the NFL. The problem is that colleges can’t find guys to do each job so often the best P also happens to be the PK. And vice versa.

I would think Henery is just here as a PK.

  104. 104 Baloophi said at 1:30 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Given the high hoser participation in here should we talk about the Roughriders’ draft for a few minutes?

  105. 105 Tommy Lawlor said at 1:31 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Mike Mayock just got text from NFL STs coach. Guy had good things to say about Henery. Very good from 40-49. Should be ok on KOs with new rules.

  106. 106 Eric said at 1:32 PM on April 30th, 2011:

I can’t believe Burton and House are still there. Trade up!!!

  107. 107 Baloophi said at 1:34 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Tommy,

What’s your instinct for round 5?

  108. 108 nicolajNN said at 1:35 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Pretty great that our last two picks are the only picks trending on twitter worldwide. Akers is too

  109. 109 John C said at 1:38 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Tommy, do you every question why you do some much work for the draft when your own team rewards you with a draft like this? It has to be like a kick in the balls.

  110. 110 Adam S. said at 1:38 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @Baloophi

    fuck the CFL………that is all.

  111. 111 Tommy Lawlor said at 1:40 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Round 5 I want another LB. I’d also like RB, DT, or RS. If Brandon Fusco is still on the board, I’m open to him.

Just get me another LB (assuming quality targets are still available).

I think the Eagles are being very specific with the players they’re targeting. They just aren’t, for the most part, the players or the place we think they should be targeting. Have to trust the FO.

    + they’ve traded down three times;
    + took Kerrigan as a 3-4 LB at 16 after trading down even tho they have Orakpo, may have thought Ponder would fall to that spot;
    + took Jarvis Jenkins who can play either 3-4 end or NT ahead of Stephen Paea, thought they took Jenkins over Paea cuz they wanted to give Albert another go-round but Skins fan friend says Albert’s done there;
    + took WR Hankerson who they will need immediately, had problems with drops early in college but go help, 6’2;
+ then took three Cornhuskers in a row:
+ RB Helu who may end up as their starter soon, backup at Nebr. who is smart and quick
+ Gomes who was a LB/SS tweener that tackles and intercepts
+ then Niles Paul WR another Cornhusker

What if the plan was to pair Ingram and Bush or switch to a wishbone or something? Crazy, yes, but you’d like to think your players would give you the benefit of the doubt rather than scribble out a “see ya!” tweet four minutes after a draft pick.

  226. 226 Tommy Lawlor said at 4:18 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Another Appalachian State player goes. Makes me proud, as an alum of ASU.

  228. 228 Mike said at 4:22 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Marc Scheichl maybe?

  229. 229 Tommy Lawlor said at 4:22 PM on April 30th, 2011:

There is a big NT from Col. School of Mines. Best Orediggers prospect ever. Doubt he’s an Eagles target. Better fit for a 3-4.

  230. 230 Tommy Lawlor said at 4:23 PM on April 30th, 2011:

RB Allen Bradford to Tampa. They had luck last year with big back from Pac-10 that had weird career. Wonder if they can strike gold twice.

  231. 231 Mike said at 4:25 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Tommy – how you feeling so far half way through day 3, are you liking the eagles moves?

  232. 232 Baloophi said at 4:26 PM on April 30th, 2011:

My best Appalachian State story is when a friend’s step-brother invited me up to his lake house and I arrived in the 3rd quarter of the Michigan game. He’s a huge Michigan fan and was listening to the game on radio and rocking back and forth. I don’t think he spoke for the rest of the weekend. Classic!

  233. 233 Tommy Lawlor said at 4:28 PM on April 30th, 2011:

This isn’t a sexy draft, but these are solid players who fit our needs and systems, aside from Dion Lewis. He is a guy that hasn’t had to play in a system like ours so we don’t know if he fits or not. You sure can’t question his production.

  234. 234 Tommy Lawlor said at 4:29 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Baloophi…

Now that is a classic story.

  235. 235 Tommy Lawlor said at 4:29 PM on April 30th, 2011:

  237. 237 Eric said at 4:31 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Where are they going to put all these OL? I know they’re porbably losing two, but still.

  238. 238 Eric said at 4:33 PM on April 30th, 2011:

I just remember being at my camp for the Michigan/App St. game and listening to Penn St. or another game on the radio and they announced the loss.

    I was lovin’ it.

  239. 239 Tommy Lawlor said at 4:34 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Forget what I said about Center I guess.

Jason Kelce is a real athletic player. Real interesting pick. I guess we are letting all the interior guys know that jobs have to be earned.

  240. 240 Jordan said at 4:36 PM on April 30th, 2011:

At this point of the draft you take the best player on your board I guess. OL arent exciting picks, but they are very important.

  241. 241 Baloophi said at 4:36 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Rolle on! Let’s Rolle! Rolle baby Rolle!

  242. 242 Mike said at 4:37 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Mayock said Kelce might become a fullback?

  243. 243 EdinburghEagle said at 4:37 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Surprised by the number of interior OL… but that said I’ve never held out much hope for Shipley or Reynolds so I’m not averse to grooming some new projects. Not a sexy draft, but we seem to be picking up solid players at definite positions of need.

  244. 244 Mike said at 4:37 PM on April 30th, 2011:

  258. 258 Alohadelphia said at 5:03 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Strangely, I like the kicker pick and this whole draft class for the Birds seems to make sense. I’d like to pick up a FA Defensive End to mix in and obviously a CB, but I feel good about the O-Line, D-Back, and LB talent overhaul.

  259. 259 Adam S. said at 5:04 PM on April 30th, 2011:

  263. 263 Tommy Lawlor said at 5:14 PM on April 30th, 2011:

This draft is growing on me. Value is up and down, but I do like the players and that’s the most crucial thing at the end of the day.

  267. 267 Baloophi said at 5:20 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Tommy

First off, thank you again for creating this forum and feeding our hungry yet small player personnel minds. Always a treat and you, sir, are an important part of my Eagles’ experience.

Secondly, I echo your thoughts on the players versus value. It’s easy to take pot-shots at the “assumed” value of a player (I’ve been doing it all weekend!), but it won’t matter where they went if we wind up with solid contributors. Except for that kicker. Just kidding. Maybe.

  268. 268 ian no 2 said at 5:25 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    COM-PEN-SI-TOR-IES!! HO HO HO!

  269. 269 Baloophi said at 5:31 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Question for the group:

Does the selection of 3 interior lineman suggest that Mudd is happy/curious with the tackle depth we have (Austin Howard, King Dunlap, Fenuki Tupou)? Or is it more of an indictment against our current interior line depth (McGlynn, Reynolds, Shipley)?

  270. 270 Tommy Lawlor said at 5:34 PM on April 30th, 2011:

I have heard that Howard likes the OTs. I do to. That’s why I scoffed all offseason at the cries for Gabe Carimi. Didn’t make sense.

    Peters
    Justice
    Dunlap
    Howard

Those guys all have size, skill, and athletic ability.

  271. 271 Name said at 5:34 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Tommy is it fair to say that high character is now a requirement for Howie? Not 1 of the 22 players that he has drafted have any real character concerns.

  273. 273 Baloophi said at 5:42 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Aloha

Nice work. I’m not familiar with Hatboro, but I’ll go out on a limb and guess that Oahu is just as nice.

My wife and I spent a few days in Kauai last year… amazing.

  274. 274 ian no 2 said at 5:44 PM on April 30th, 2011:

No WRs but this was a bad year for WRs after the top 2. I’d say the top 2 have Canton potential but Julio Jones will be blamed for the decline of a franchise.

Interior line was a clear need, and they’re nearing the point where Jean-Gilles and Cole would have to be re-signed, which is looking unlikely.

Mario Fannin? Or is he more UFA territory?

  277. 277 Zach said at 6:03 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Fannin would be a great fit, already great in pass protection

  278. 278 Tommy Lawlor said at 6:08 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Mario Fannin is an interesting prospect. Great athlete. Versatile. Marginal production. Could be better pro than college player. I’d be okay with him.

  281. 281 Tommy Lawlor said at 6:17 PM on April 30th, 2011:

We have plenty of DL already. We need impact guys or developmental guys.

Bad year for late DEs. Couple good DTs left.

Impact DL will come through trades / FA.

  282. 282 Baloophi said at 6:20 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ nicolajNN

    RE: zero DL…

I have to think they’re happy with some of the youth/depth we have in place. Sapp, Te’o, Hunt, Dixon, Laws, Owens…

I also wonder whether Washburn has some FA targets he can cajole into joining the Eagles.

I would’ve liked a DL to challenge and/or eventually replace Bunk/Patterson, however. But can’t get it all!

  283. 283 Tommy Lawlor said at 6:20 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Targets?

    DT Ollie Ogbu
    DT Cedric Thornton

    LB Malcolm Smith

    RE: D McDaniel

I had him as 4th or so. Must be a character or medical issue. Not my favorite guy, but he’s way better than this.

  288. 288 Baloophi said at 6:35 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    Lawrence Guy.

Good decision on not going with “Larry.” Then he would be Larry Guy.

  289. 289 ian no 2 said at 6:36 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Burton would have a chance to make the team, as a KO returner and speedy WR to line up with DJax and Maclin.

One thing to think about in the 7th tho is to draft against need, because you have a better chance of signing UDFAs in your area of need. But it’s kinda pointless if the guy can’t make the team. Right now the Eagles are going to have a hard time signing any UDFA because they have so many young draft picks, the top UDFAs are going to scout out what teams they have a chance to stick on.

  290. 290 Tommy Lawlor said at 6:36 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Better Larry Guy than Harry Guy.

  291. 291 Tommy Lawlor said at 6:37 PM on April 30th, 2011:

UConn LB Greg Lloyd. Tough, physical player. Knee injury hurt him all of 2010. I need to study 2009 tape to get a better feel for him. Inside run stuffer.

  300. 300 Tommy Lawlor said at 6:46 PM on April 30th, 2011:

  301. 301 Baloophi said at 6:47 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @ Ian no 2

Here’s how we can add a little juice to the sitcom – we set it in Europe in the WFL! That way Tom Coughlin and Marvin Austin (or their surrogates) can share an apartment in Barcelona or something… that way it’s an odd-couple AND a fish out of water show.

  302. 302 ATG said at 6:50 PM on April 30th, 2011:

    @mc_bob

Why do you say that? We started last year with a fantastic fullback, and replaced him with a pretty good one. I imagine this guy is mostly for reps, competition, and maybe PS material.

  321. 321 John C said at 7:46 PM on April 30th, 2011:

Not much need for a lead blocker in a spread offense.

They certainly addressed positions of need in this draft. It is hard to get excited about the individual players they picked, as many seem to have limited upside.

Not much to love about this draft, but like any other we will have to evaluate it down the line.
