NYG at PHI – 2nd half

Posted: September 25th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 105 Comments »

The comeback is on.  NYG 14, PHI 13.

We’re running the ball.  LeSean is 15-88 so far.

We’ve outgained the Giants 230-205.

We’ve run 42 plays to their 22.

Let’s hope we wear them down.  It is a humid day and our running attack should take a toll on them in the 2nd half.

We get the ball to start the 2nd half.  Let’s go.

As bad as they played, it’s pretty big being only down by 1 at the half.

Vick just doesn’t look right out there.

  2. 2 Anonymous said at 6:37 PM on September 25th, 2011:

So, one team has a few big plays, exposing poor secondary play and the other team is grinding it out on the ground and is taking chunks of yards at a time.

    Just like we expected…

is it just me or did vick look a little dizzy as the game went on.

and that last bit with Celek and 3 other O-linemen having to tell him to get off the field so they could kick the FG?

  24. 24 Jon Blank said at 7:08 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Really? All those weapons and the fullback twice? With Mccoy beasting all game long? Decisions like these are why I lost faith in Andy being able to win a super bowl.

  25. 25 Eric Weaver said at 7:10 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Why do you run a FB draw at the half yard line? 1) Owen has no forward momentum, and 2) he’s starting 3 yards deep. It makes no sense.

  33. 33 Eric Weaver said at 7:23 PM on September 25th, 2011:

WTF! You had 4 downs to get a touchdown from the half yard line. What makes you think you’ll get a 4 and 1?

  34. 34 Jon Blank said at 7:23 PM on September 25th, 2011:

C’mon Andy. That’s a terrible decision to go for it at midfield with only a 2 point lead.

  35. 35 Thorin McGee said at 7:26 PM on September 25th, 2011:

I liked going for it at that spot ont he field, but I hated the call. After the goal line stand, you can’t come back and try to jam it down their throats on 4-1.

  36. 36 Jon Blank said at 7:27 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Not at this point in the game only up 2 when your defense has shut them down all half. Instead of pinning them deep you risk giving them life, and the lead. Both of which look like they are happening.

  37. 37 Thorin McGee said at 7:31 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Your defense really hasn’t shut them down most of the game, though. They’ve had a few good series. 2 PTs is a nothing lead, even with a shutdown D. At that point, if you have the Ravens of old Steelers defense, maybe you get conservative with a 2 pt lead. With a regular defense, you can’t let it affect your play calling. You’re not running out a full quarter with a 2-pt lead.

  38. 38 Eric Weaver said at 7:25 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Tommy, this team is incredibly sloppy and it’s all the coaches’ fault.

  39. 39 Anonymous said at 7:25 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Beautiful play by the little ball of hate right there.

  40. 40 the guy said at 7:27 PM on September 25th, 2011:

The Giants call 2 early timeouts in a close game when they’re behind and may need them for later.

Seriously, were the coaching headsets switched? This is bizarro Eagles-Giants.

  41. 41 Anonymous said at 7:31 PM on September 25th, 2011:

  43. 43 Anonymous said at 7:31 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Absolutely. Team is making way too many mistakes. Cost us a game last week. Might today as well.

  44. 44 Eric Weaver said at 7:34 PM on September 25th, 2011:

The reality is half of the guys on defense just don’t belong on the field in a starter role. I understand Page shouldn’t be out there if everyone is healthy, but he’s a huge liability in coverage.

The linebackers, well, we know that song and dance.

  45. 45 Jon Blank said at 7:30 PM on September 25th, 2011:

I hate to say this but the Eagles deserve to lose today. Poor execution on the field and a terrible job by the coaching staff. Welcome to last place Andy.

  46. 46 Zachary said at 7:30 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Am I the only one who is completely conditioned to lack confidence in this squad in close games? Always seems like they come up small, but maybe that’s just yeras of disappointment, and I shouldn’t give up.

  47. 47 Jon Blank said at 7:33 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Not at all. Andy hasn’t been a good gameday coach for a long time. He, Marty and Juan have all done poorly today. The poor performance on the field is a direct reflection of their leadership.

  48. 48 Zachary said at 7:38 PM on September 25th, 2011:

    JESUS Christ

  49. 49 Eric Weaver said at 7:40 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Wow, no deep balls all game with Vick and they bring in Kafka and dial it up. It makes no sense. No rhyme or reason to what they’re doing.

  50. 50 Anonymous said at 7:41 PM on September 25th, 2011:

It made sense in a way. They tried to catch the Giants off guard. Problem is that Giants didn’t bite. Kafka can’t make that throw.

  51. 51 Jak FTW said at 7:41 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Man – You can’t lose the turnover battle and expect to win the game.

  52. 52 Zachary said at 7:42 PM on September 25th, 2011:

What’s everyones confidence level in this team at 1-2?

  53. 53 Eric Weaver said at 7:42 PM on September 25th, 2011:

    Another missed tackle.

  54. 54 Zachary said at 7:43 PM on September 25th, 2011:

The worst problem with this team is whom do you trust to make a play? I mean who do we have complete confidence in with the game on the line?

  55. 55 Eric Weaver said at 7:45 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Well, Kafka can’t bring this team back down 9.

  56. 56 J.B. Anderson said at 7:47 PM on September 25th, 2011:

  57. 57 Anonymous said at 7:49 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Especially with all the fundamentals talk in the off-season, shouldn’t that be #1 on the list of defense?

  58. 58 Thorin McGee said at 7:47 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Run/Pass wise, this has been the most conservative game I’ve ever seen from a Reid offense.

  59. 59 Thorin McGee said at 7:49 PM on September 25th, 2011:

This defense is like watching the Bad News Bears.

  61. 61 Zachary said at 7:49 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Seriously – 3 weeks I’ve gone from a believer in this team to thinking Reid signed his own resignation by loading up. Maybe that’s why they’ve never done it before.

  62. 62 Anonymous said at 7:53 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Let’s not go over the top yet. 1-2 isn’t the season.

  63. 63 the guy said at 8:01 PM on September 25th, 2011:

No, but it’s hard to think of many positives. The team hasn’t looked good in any of the 3 games. And it’s not just one thing hurting them, it’s breakdowns everywhere.

  64. 64 Jim Larsen said at 8:04 PM on September 25th, 2011:

I’m having trouble finding a silver lining here.

If I had to dig one up it would sound like: Losing to a good team (ATL) is acceptable, but maybe this is embarrassing enough that the players step up.

That’s really stretching it though. We have some serious holes.

  65. 65 Anonymous said at 7:51 PM on September 25th, 2011:

    I hate division games

  66. 66 Eric Weaver said at 7:52 PM on September 25th, 2011:

After 3 games, I can safely say this is nothing more than an 8-8 team preparing for next season.

  67. 67 Zachary said at 7:55 PM on September 25th, 2011:

What cofidence do you have in any player who’d return next year? Either a hugely over-rated team, or just a terrible coaching job. Either way, 8-8 this year, which might be a strech if today is used as evidence., doesn’t give me cofidence for next year.

  68. 68 Zachary said at 7:53 PM on September 25th, 2011:

I’m blowing up here. Fire everyone. This is half a Giants team beating a mostly healthy Philly team. This is as bad as it gets for Reid.

  69. 69 Mac said at 7:59 PM on September 25th, 2011:

I’m glad I stayed up late last night. Much to tired from this lackluster performance to really even be wound up in a negative way. It would be nice if the defense would stop giving up big plays, and the offense could cut down on the turnovers…

  70. 70 Anonymous said at 7:58 PM on September 25th, 2011:

My sarcasm detector is beeping. Regardless 14-2 is not a bad record at all

  78. 78 Jim Larsen said at 8:01 PM on September 25th, 2011:

I’m not one get on the FIRE EVERYONE train, but to say we are not living up to expectations is a HUGE understatement.

Offense is off (outside of McCoy, 1st and goal on the 3 twice, and you can’t get it in?).

Defense is actually pretty bad (ATL last week, and we look bad against receivers off the street)

Coaching: We can’t punch it in short yardage in two separate drives at the goal line. Those were for points. Then we go for it on 4th and short when it’s not worth points? After 6 straight unsuccessful short yardage attempts, why are we trying again in a spot that failure would give the Giants good field position?

  79. 79 Thorin McGee said at 8:01 PM on September 25th, 2011:

When Tony Romo leads his team to a comeback win with a broken rib and punctured lung, I can’t excuse Vick for sitting down with a broken off-hand. I realize he tried to go back out there, but it’s not grit unless you go back out and get it done.

  80. 80 Anonymous said at 8:08 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Vick never seemed 100% right today. I have no problem with the coaches sitting him. Gotta think about the overall season. If he wasn’t coming off a concussion last week, I’d agree with you.

  81. 81 Alex Karklins said at 8:27 PM on September 25th, 2011:

He was making terrible throwing decisions and MUST have been suffering lingering concussion symptoms. I realize he doesn’t want to miss any time, which is admirable, but you have to think long-term, and now he has a broken right hand to go along with a rung bell.

  82. 82 the guy said at 8:07 PM on September 25th, 2011:

    Tommy,

I’d really love your take on Andy’s decision to go for it on 4th down. I thought it was terrible since we had just proved we couldn’t convert short yardage. Am I missing something?

  91. 91 Anonymous said at 8:30 PM on September 25th, 2011:

    Dumb decision.

  92. 92 Anonymous said at 8:43 PM on September 25th, 2011:

Dumb? A team should be able to get a yard on the ground. What is dumb is not going for it on 4th and short. But I see you advocate a very conservate game plan. If they get it on 4th and 1 it’s a great, if they don’t not so much. I’d rather see them take a risk then play overly conservate.

  93. 93 the guy said at 9:10 PM on September 25th, 2011:

It’s dumb when you’ve consistently failed to get short yardage in pretty much every previous attempt in the game. 2 long drives ended in FGs because they couldn’t get a few tough yards.

Giants played well. Jerry Reese lost the headline contest this summer but he drafts good guys. Good draft picks don’t make headlines. It was awful for Eli to throw up a jump ball right at Nmandi, but Victor Cruz went up and caught it, good for him.

  105. 105 Steve H said at 8:51 PM on September 25th, 2011:

We looked pretty awful in most phases out there today. It was just sloppy sloppy sloppy all game long and I think thats a reflection of the coaching primarily. They gotta get the team focused and dialed in and they didn’t do that at all.

Kurt Coleman, what the hell happened between preseason and now? Why do Eagles defenders of the last few years seem to oscillate between solid starters and absolute trash within a couple of games of each other? Can anyone on this team maintain their high level of play besides Trent Cole?

The Wide 9 seems like it can be gameplanned around, I think if the other team lines up and calls traditional pass plays 60% of the time it would be awesome, but other teams are starting to not do that.
