DAL at PHI – 1st half
Posted: October 30th, 2011 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 126 Comments »Dion Lewis was in a car accident this morning and is inactive. Ronnie Brown is going to be the backup RB and KOR. He has never returned a KO in his NFL career. Makes you wonder if Dallas will kick short to test him. Lewis is okay, but is a bit shook up so the Eagles are going to let him sit out tonight.
This isn’t an ideal situation, but if Dallas kicks deep, we don’t even have to return KOs. And I am sorta glad Ronnie will be part of the game after the way the trade situation went down. He’s a pro, but guys like him need to be involved to stay sharp. Who knows…maybe he makes a big play for us tonight.
INACTIVES
RB Dion Lewis
G Julian Vandervelde
DE Phillip Hunt
LB Keenan Clayton
S Jarrad Page
CB Curtis Marsh

Hated to see the Giants win today, but at least they couldn’t enjoy it.
Loved seeing the Skins get shut out by the Bills. WAS has lost 3 in a row and are 3-4.

Go Eagles!!!
“Brown has three career kickoff returns, all in the 2007 preseason. Average of 26.0 yards per return, long of 29.”

Honestly, if Brown just catches the ball in the end zone and kneels, he’ll probably have a better average than Dion Lewis did.
PS: No comment on Clayton?
Forgot to mention that. Not a good sign for him. 2 games in a row inactive. You have to wonder if he’s done something to get in the doghouse or if he’s just not done enough to stand out and earn PT. Either way, not encouraging.
Tommy Dion is inactive because he was in a car accident earlier today.
I hate to say it that early, but THIS game is our season!!
Go Eagles!!!
Its time. Its time. Its VADER TIME.
err, EAGLES TIME.
go birds. win at any costs.
Stole this from a fellow Eagles fan:
‘RONNIE BROWN!
Here’s your chance to be a hero! Again!
And you don’t have to save a life this time!’
Thank you, thank you. That was me.
Great Big Van Vader reference.
damn right, man.
When’s the actual kickoff?!
820pm, give or take.
But don’t they always do much BS before the kickoff on Sunday night games?!
Yup, they know we don’t have any other option.
Uh-oh. I’m hoping we don’t have another Greg Lewis-gate like that Packers season opener a few years ago.
I’m having a hard time getting a read on this game. It seems for both teams, they’re their on worst enemy. On top of that, it’s a divisional game. You can never use stats, records, or anything really to make an educated guess as to who wins.
I will say that their Oline vs. our Dline is a hugely in our favor. However, it would not suprise me to see them A) run the ball and B) get the ball out as fast as possible. Given our tackling woes and the fact that both Austin and Bryant are tough to bring down, this could be a long night for the Eagles secondary. Hopefully the last 6 quarters they played were not an aberration. I’m also concerned about our 2nd half offense. It seems the Eagles go into coast mode rather than “kill” mode.
With all that said, go Eagles!
So much nervous energy, I hate late games…
Ronnie Brown!? Say it ain’t so!
C’mon Eagles, don’t screw this up. Gotta have this one.
I’ve been trying not to think too much football between sundays this year, it would be too depressing. But now I’m starting to get really nervous.
1st crisis averted. Hopefully the Cowboys don’t have to kick off again. 🙂
I like short passes 😀
Jason peters rules!
They made it tough with a 3rd and 9 in the redzone, but you gotta love a successful redzone trip on the first drive.
I don’t know if anyone noticed or not, but that was a really good grab by Maclin, Vick didn’t exactly lay it out for him. Anyways, WOO HOO!
Or lay it in there, but I know the blitz was coming. Anyways, WOO HOO again!
That was a great grab. Not only holding on, but staying balanced so that he can make the first guy miss.
Great catch. Great start.
Let’s go D.
Wow, that was easy.
Now if the rest of the night goes like that…
Henery the VIII says I spoke too soon.
Wouldn’t that be nice? Don’t we deserve a game like that?
First I saw Vick sack, then tackle for loss, then… TOUCHDOWN
What the f*ck was that? He can’t kick?
Nice job Henery. Are we drafting a kicker again next year?
That was a little strange. Henery hasn’t seemed to have problems on getting his kicks deep so far in the past. That was two in a row. I know the cold is supposedly supposed to make the ball go a little shorter, but he should still be able to get better kicks than that.
8th Sack!
Nice Free Agent huh? LOL
Pick up I mean! And another!
I’ll admit that when we first signed Babin, I was thinking he was a one hit wonder, and even with Washburn, it wouldn’t work out again here. I’m glad to have been flat out wrong on that.
That’s what a healthy defensive line will do!
Exactly! Great start by the guys up front. I want more.
2 sacks!
T Laws getting in on the action.
Score early and often and then you can take the run option away from the Cowboys.
Did anyone else see Romo taking an elbow to the head from Cole as he was going down on the Babin sack? Looked painful.
When I saw it live I thought they’d flag someone for hands to the face. I guess they deemed the hit from Cole incidental because of Romo being dragged down.
Why oh why after a nice 5 yard run on 1st does this happen? They’re in shotgun with no one in the backfield. Run it down their throats again!
Tommy is there some kind of hacking going on here? I have something about amazon parrots at the bottom of this blog.
LOL ..Nice..Celek!!!
I’m seeing the same thing.
Wow!! McCoy!
I’m guessing morton didn’t see that stiff arm
Ryan is furious so says Al!! LMAO WOOOOOO
Watching him get pissed off is kinda fun.
Best rushing defense my ass.
Suck ass Angelo Cataldi and Morton! Rooting against the Eagles for the sake of change.
And did you see Morton’s boy Lee get stiff armed to the ground? Great stuff!
I’m not sure that was even a stiff arm, more like a brush off. Shady barely looked at him.
Rob Ryan getting smacked for disobeying his father. Touche.
79 yard touchdown drive followed up by a 90 yard touchdown drive. Couldn’t really ask for a better start to the game.
Rage meter filling….. Mccoy entering beast mode……. Cowboys beware……
I figured if they had time they could pass against this poor secondary, but… geez… running like crazy.
Hey Dallas now you know how it feels to have a big mouth Ryan coaching your team. LOL.Buddy was the best though.
Shades of the Pickle Juice game so far. Please keep it up!
Great start by the Eagles. Offense is really clicking. Shady is on fire and Vick is getting protection.
How some could even think about cutting Colt. How does he always weave trough everyone and make the tackle?
yeah, if you have to cut a safety, Page is your man.
WOOO HOOO!!! Somehow I punched myself in the nose after that int.
Was it me, or was that Romo play action really really weak on that play?
That was dumb by Vick.
I thought that was going to be a personal foul, so that’s good.
Am I alone? Have the parrots eaten everyone?
I hold my breath every time Vick takes off like that. One because it’s amazing he’s that fast and elusive and two because I REALLY don’t want him to get hurt.
Vick injured a Cowboy by scrambling. Ultimate badass? I think so.
That was a nice dive by Vick
Beautiful pass to Avant, I mean beautiful.
Which was just put to shame by that pass to Celek. TD!
Vick is playing incredibly sharp so far tonight. That was a great throw on third down.
Sharp is a great word. He’s doing a terrific job of running the offense.
Vick is on FIRE!!!!!!!!!
For real. He’s got a clean pocket and is just shredding the Boys.
Loving this.
Hey Rob Ryan, what were those dream team comments you made in the preseason? I don’t quite remember. Could you repeat them?
Tommy,
The best thing about that score? Vick went through his progressions and threw to a receiver that wasn’t open at the time.
If he can anticipate players more, the sky’s the limit.
Falcons, Giants, 49ers and the Bills didn’t get to see this team that’s playing right now.
Hopefully the Giants get to see this team in a few weeks.
Agreed.
Neither have we, but I like what I’m seeing.
So far this game is like everyone expected. Tough, tight division game where we are struggling to run the football
LOL
They have to keep the pedal down
Uh oh. Here come the dream team comments.
And the best thing is, our scoring drives have lasted from 7-11 plays. Glad to see us not just being a big-play team.
They’re running the ball!! Woo hoo
So far after two big run plays, they’ve responded on the next play. Liking that.
And of course, we’ve been very sharp in the red zone. Was not expecting that!
Challenge!! They win that!
Geez, I knew that without the replay.
You think you’re so smart. STFU.
Sorry I’m bipolar and having a manic episode.
And finally a good challenge from Andy. The sky’s the limit!
Even though he was out of bounds that was impressive
Press from Asante? Who is this team?
I will say, if Asante turns his head around on that, he has a great chance at a pick.
Even on the last completion he gave up, he had great coverage.
Wait, can someone explain that rule? I thought if you went out of bounds, you couldn’t be the first to touch the ball?
I think that’s on punt returns, but I’m not entirely sure either.
Even Andy can do no wrong. Geez, this is weird.
I’m so glad that search party went out and found Celek and brought him back.
No lead is safe against the Eagles’ DEFENSE . . . a bit upside down . . . but unfortunately true
Same exact play as on the earlier 3rd down conversion to Avant?
This is like a lower scoring version of last year’s Redskins game.
I like Collingsworth. Is that just me? lol
Tommy, there’s is NO rush by the Cowboys. ZERO ZIP NADDA
VICK . . . IN THE ZONE!!!
Very nice play design.
Wow. Simply wow. Right now, Vick is passing like Rodgers but is still running like Vick.
Vick has a perfect QB rating right now.
Tommy, please do us all a favor and avoid starting a separate 2nd half thread.
Maybe that’s how the Eagles will keep scoring also in the 2nd half?!!
Hahaha. I like that suggestion. Generally, I’m not very superstitious, but when it comes to the Eagles, if we are playing well, I refuse to change anything I am doing.
Exactly, never change a winning thread. :))
Hopefully the let down against the Niners will serve the Eagles well in the 2nd half.
Haven’t we learned yet that Schmitt should not be a focal point of our red zone offense?
It’s disappointing that we didn’t get the TD on that drive, but don’t really agree with the announcers on that play. Schmitt was clearly not the first read, but Dallas had the WRs covered well. With Vick getting pressured, he tossed it to Schmitt to get rid of the ball in hopes of being able to make a play.
During the play it looked to me like Shady was targeted but got caught in traffic
Possibly. It certainly looked like Maclin (I think) was running a route to the back corner of the endzone, and it looked like Vick was looking there as his first read, and then to a second read on the left side of the field (same side of the field) before tossing it towards Schmitt. Either way, I don’t think the play was designed to “catch the defense off guard” with a trick-type play call. The announcers were basically arguing that Schmitt shouldn’t be on the field at all in the redzone which I think is a bit much.
Am I the only one that really hates that the NBC halftime shows spends about 15 seconds talking about the current game?
Nope. Costas was talking about the Rams as if they’re back in the playoff hunt.
Pretty much every year one of the worst teams beats one of the best. Usually happens a couple times. I’d much rather some analysis of the current game.
I don’t like it either because really the only time I watch SNF is when I care about the game being played
