Game Thread – PHI at BUF

Posted: October 9th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 251 Comments »

My theme for Sunday continues to be … just win, baby.

Darryl Tapp starts.  Juqua Parker is active.

Derek Landri makes his Eagles regular season debut.  I expect nothing less than greatness.

Inactives:

Julian Vandervelde
Jason Peters
Kyle DeVan
Mike Kafka

Trent Cole
Curtis Marsh
Jaiquawn Jarrett

Interesting to see Winston Justice active and DeVan sitting.  If anything happens with Watkins, does that mean Winston would play there?  Would Todd shift to LG, Mathis to RG and Justice would be RT?  Would Todd just slide in to RG and Justice take his spot?  I hope we don’t have to find out.

I am interested to see how Watkins does today.  If he can limit his mistakes, he could give us a nice boost up front.

Vince Young is active.  Will he get any snaps in specialty packages?

Let’s go win this thing.

After last weeks game I’m almost not sure I want to watch this weeks. My system can’t take too much more angst and anguish.

Jarrett inactive again? So much for him at least contributing on special teams.

I will stand for no more insolence! Eagles win 106-3.

    Please? Guys?

C’mon man, you think King Dunlap is gonna let even one FG get past him?

    Very well could be.

  11. 11 Michael said at 4:57 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Billick on the broadcast…why are we always cursed with the asshat crews??

  12. 12 Anonymous said at 5:03 PM on October 9th, 2011:

When was the last time we thought ‘the Bills should be a good test for our team’? Early 90’s, I guess. What a strange new world this is..

  13. 13 Anonymous said at 5:05 PM on October 9th, 2011:

You didn’t even comment on Kafka being inactive, some wondered if we would see that with the rule change regarding 3rd QB

  14. 14 Michael said at 5:09 PM on October 9th, 2011:

generous spot there. we need all the luck we can get

  15. 15 Anonymous said at 5:11 PM on October 9th, 2011:

That was. Replay is tough because Mac turns toward the line. Can’t see exactly where ball is.

  16. 16 Anonymous said at 5:09 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    That’ll probably be overturned.

  17. 17 Anonymous said at 5:12 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Oh great, all we need is one yard. *covers eyes*

  18. 18 Michael said at 5:12 PM on October 9th, 2011:

dont have to wait long for a 4th and 1….much better playcall there

    Phew.

  20. 20 Eric Weaver said at 5:13 PM on October 9th, 2011:

I think karma has just decided to bite this team in the ass.

  21. 21 Anonymous said at 5:14 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Great 4th down play and then a friggin’ turnover. Not the start I wanted.

  22. 22 Anonymous said at 5:14 PM on October 9th, 2011:

We just cant catch a fuckin’ break.

  23. 23 Anonymous said at 5:14 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Are we unlucky or the Bills just lucky this year?

  24. 24 Corry Henry said at 5:16 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Unlucky, since it seems to happen every friggin’ week.

  25. 25 Daniel Suraci said at 5:17 PM on October 9th, 2011:

And we can’t stop the run. Surprise.

  26. 26 Zachary said at 5:18 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Turnovers, bad tackling, same story different week. I’m not very confident

  27. 27 Zachary said at 5:19 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    Why the time out there?

  28. 28 Anonymous said at 5:19 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    Keep ’em off balance.

  29. 29 Eric Weaver said at 5:24 PM on October 9th, 2011:

I don’t get it. Why waste the timeout. Your players will give up big plays regardless of whether they are in position or not. Hell, throw out 16 defensive players and they still wouldn’t get the job done.

  30. 30 Anonymous said at 5:21 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Honestly, the longest commercial break ever.

  31. 31 Zachary said at 5:21 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Where’s everyone’s confidence level now? Great time out play huh?

  32. 32 Corry Henry said at 5:21 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Eagles have to lead the league in missed tackles.

  33. 33 Anonymous said at 5:24 PM on October 9th, 2011:

God, it sure feels that way.

  34. 34 Zachary said at 5:22 PM on October 9th, 2011:

I think I know this much – if you have a fantasy team and it features someone playing Philadelphia – you start em.

  35. 35 Boomy Wongwan said at 5:22 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Tommy, what made Tapp move inside just before the snap?

  39. 39 Anonymous said at 5:23 PM on October 9th, 2011:

This is where we turn it around. Hold Buffalo to negative yardage for the rest of the game, while our offense goes on a 48-0 run.

    Hmm? Probably not.

  41. 41 Michael said at 5:24 PM on October 9th, 2011:

how can Juan not be fired at halftime?? this defense is putrid

  42. 42 Anonymous said at 5:24 PM on October 9th, 2011:

  43. 43 Jon Blank said at 5:24 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    Nice defense Juan

  44. 44 Boomy Wongwan said at 5:25 PM on October 9th, 2011:

and he thought he knew how to fix it

  45. 45 Zachary said at 5:24 PM on October 9th, 2011:

How Juan Castillo still has a job is beyond me. Andy’s buidling in a excuse at the end of the year when they suck…Well our DC didn’t quite pan out, so we’re gonna replace him…

How about you do whats obvious Andy and get someone who isn’t so far underwater to coach this team. Hell I think a Madden Football game could plan and play call as well as Juan.

  46. 46 Rohan Erm said at 5:24 PM on October 9th, 2011:

I saw them make that play to the tight end Jones on NFL playbook, even I could see that happening. Mismatch was Samuel on Jones, he had a huge cushion on that slant.

  47. 47 Anonymous said at 5:33 PM on October 9th, 2011:

It seems like a few times every game Samuel decides to play 8-10 yards off the receiver, and gives up an easy pitch and catch. If I was an offensive coordinator I’d throw that slant five or six times a game at Samuel. It’s not like Asante is a lock to make the tackle.

  48. 48 Anonymous said at 5:24 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Come on guys, this is a good thing. You know how much trouble we have had protecting a lead.

  49. 49 Anonymous said at 5:26 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Jarrad Page was the culprit. Big surprise.

  50. 50 Eric Weaver said at 5:26 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Billick said it just like I asked about Tapp. No one is lined up correctly. I’m sorry, that’s on the coaches.

  51. 51 Zachary said at 5:26 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    Tommy,

I think you could take a break from your DGRs this year….I’ll give you all 16 right here:

Offefnse – the turnovers and red zone offense failures were key. We just can’t keep making mistakes.

Defense – Run defense, lack of pressure on key plays, big plays,, tackling, and red zone defense all let us done today.

That right there should save you hours.

  52. 52 Anonymous said at 5:27 PM on October 9th, 2011:

What we need is for Lurie to tell an assistant to go down at halftime and tell Reid he’s been benched, just like Reid did to McNabb vs Baltimore. Then we’ll trade Reid to the “Boys for a bag of peanuts.

  53. 53 Zachary said at 5:27 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Why the end around there? we were marching down the field on them with normal plays. So lets get cute….Fucking coaches.

  54. 54 Anonymous said at 5:27 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Surprisingly, it seemed like a good defensive play call on the touchdown run. Paige had a free run at Jackson…..and ran right by him unblocked. Awful.

  55. 55 Eric Weaver said at 5:28 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Came in to wide, but that’s always been his deal.

  56. 56 Anonymous said at 5:27 PM on October 9th, 2011:

End around, nice call after a good run by McCoy.

  57. 57 Eric Weaver said at 5:27 PM on October 9th, 2011:

So Andy knows this team can’t play base football so he results to trickery like misdirection screens and running plays to DeSean.

  58. 58 Anonymous said at 5:28 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    Jazz hands!

  59. 59 Morton said at 5:29 PM on October 9th, 2011:

In the NFL, you draft well or die.

Of the starters on the Eagles defense today, only Mike Patterson (2005), Jamar Chaney (2010), Brian Rolle (2011), Moise Fokou (2009), and Nate Allen (2010) were drafted by the Eagles. Only Nate Allen (2nd) and Mike Patterson (1st) were drafted higher than the 6th round.

You reap what you sow. If you can’t evaluate defensive talent in the NFL draft, you will find yourself forced to fill in the gaps with older free agents (Jenkins, Babin, Asomugha, Samuel), mediocre free agents (Page, Tapp), and young, late-round players with little experience or talent (Chaney, Fokou, Coleman, Rolle).

We can trace this all back to Howie Roseman, and whoever else is calling the shots on draft day (Reid? Banner?). A substantial portion of the blame falls on them.

  60. 60 Anonymous said at 5:32 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    Tapp wasn’t a free agent.

I’m nitpicking, because I’m in a bad mood.

  61. 61 Zachary said at 5:30 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Mike Vick, Jason Avant, and LeSean McCoy….lets get rid of everyone else – not that I’m over reacting or anything.

  62. 62 Corry Henry said at 5:30 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Why am I watching this bullshit?

  63. 63 Zachary said at 5:30 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Make that Avant and McCoy…get rid of everoyne else.

  64. 64 Jon Blank said at 5:31 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    Entering Luck territory.

  65. 65 Anonymous said at 5:32 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Seeing as the Bills have 4 sacks all year, It makes sense that they are getting pressure on Vick. That total may more than double today.

  66. 66 Zachary said at 5:32 PM on October 9th, 2011:

After the Bills score right here, anyone got a suggestion on what other game to watch? I mean I could keep watching this, but like I told tommy, I think we can all pretty much nail down exactly what happened, without viewing the game.

  67. 67 Anonymous said at 5:33 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Just don’t understand why Marty and Andy aren’t making the Bills pay with some 3 step slant routes. It looks like Buffalo has 8 in the box every play. When it’s not a run, the safety or and ILB are blitzing.

  68. 68 Anonymous said at 5:33 PM on October 9th, 2011:

How about a lucky fan coaches the team for the rest of the season. Maybe connect a 12 year old’s Xbox and let him call plays off of Madden. Has to go better, right?

  69. 69 Zachary said at 5:34 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Oh that Blitz was just so close…oh wait, it wasn’t.

  70. 70 Anonymous said at 5:35 PM on October 9th, 2011:

When the QBs helmet flies off, that is a good clue for the refs that there was a blow to the head, right?

  71. 71 Anonymous said at 5:35 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Have we had a turnover on defense this year since the nmandi interception?

Also why couldn’t we have traded asante for something??

  72. 72 Jon Blank said at 5:36 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Asante had an INT later in that game.

  73. 73 Anonymous said at 5:39 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Yeah, and I just remembered the babin strip. But still feels like nothing.

  74. 74 Anonymous said at 5:36 PM on October 9th, 2011:

If that would’ve been a good pass, that would’ve been pass interference.

  75. 75 Zachary said at 5:36 PM on October 9th, 2011:

A defensive player got a hand on a football? Wow. Wow. WOW.

  76. 76 the guy said at 5:38 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Because the Eagles have a team full of them.

  83. 83 Anonymous said at 5:47 PM on October 9th, 2011:

This broadcast is even worse than the game. Brian Billick is killing me and Sam Rosen doesn’t know the names of the players.

  84. 84 Gary said at 5:45 PM on October 9th, 2011:

It’ll really be a shame if we don’t turn this season around, because our division is completely up for grabs.

  85. 85 Anonymous said at 5:48 PM on October 9th, 2011:

  86. 86 Anonymous said at 5:46 PM on October 9th, 2011:

The refs are pathetic. No way a challenge should have to be issued here, that is as clear cut as it gets.

  87. 87 Zachary said at 5:46 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Ref’s are ready to get there day over, figure it’ll go qiucker if they help the team that doesn’t suck

  88. 88 Jon Blank said at 5:47 PM on October 9th, 2011:

C’mon refs. No evidence that was even close to being a fumble. Forcing us to use a challenge. At least Andy didn’t screw it up by not challenging.

  89. 89 Anonymous said at 5:48 PM on October 9th, 2011:

At least Vick gets to walk it off without a timeout.

  90. 90 the guy said at 5:48 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Another obvious non-turnover requiring a review.

The officials should flag themselves for piling on.

  91. 91 Anonymous said at 5:48 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    Scum scum, scum.

Now to rant about the Eagles 🙁

  106. 106 Anonymous said at 5:55 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Eagles, I don’t even know who you are anymore. But I like it.

  107. 107 Jon Blank said at 5:56 PM on October 9th, 2011:

  112. 112 the guy said at 5:58 PM on October 9th, 2011:

So first 3 drives, Eagles turn the ball over twice and defense allows TD and looks bad doing so.

Last 2 drives, defense makes a stop and Eagles score a RZ TD.

The team they’ve been and the team they could be, all in 20 minutes of football.

  113. 113 Daniel Suraci said at 6:00 PM on October 9th, 2011:

  116. 116 Anonymous said at 6:01 PM on October 9th, 2011:

  117. 117 Anonymous said at 6:01 PM on October 9th, 2011:

/ just stand there on that touchdown?

A ten yard cushion does NOT work in the end zone

  118. 118 Daniel Suraci said at 6:03 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Yep. Maybe just me, but it sure looks like Asante has given up this year. He has put no effort in whatsoever.

  119. 119 Anonymous said at 6:03 PM on October 9th, 2011:

It looks that way to me too. Bench him and start Nmandi, DRC and Hanson in the slot.

If he doesn’t want to play, thats fine with me

  120. 120 Anonymous said at 6:08 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Sign me up for the the bench Asante bandwagon. Gives too big of a cushion, doesn’t gie maximum effort, can’t tackle.

  121. 121 Daniel Suraci said at 6:09 PM on October 9th, 2011:

    Agreed.

  122. 122 Corry Henry said at 6:01 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Lets get a early look at that DGR again…

    Turnovers-Check
    Red Zone offense –
    Bad Tackling – Check
    Run Defnese – Check
    Big Plays – Check
    Red Zone defense – Check

  124. 124 Anonymous said at 6:02 PM on October 9th, 2011:

  126. 126 Anonymous said at 6:03 PM on October 9th, 2011:

Yeah, he’s driving me nuts this year.

  127. 127 Anonymous said at 6:06 PM on October 9th, 2011:

I have defended him in the past because he was kind of right, we were paying him for interceptions. But in the past, he had so many game changing catches that if he missed a tackle, it wasn’t a huge deal.

Now not only is he not getting the interceptions, hes not even playing football.

Asante Samuel is ALWAYS behind WRs at the goal line. He’s not even next to them. Just behind them.

Have the Coaches NOT SEEN that on the tape?

Has anyone tried to coach Asante on this?

    Or is that the Scheme?

What the hell is going on out there?!
