Game Thread – PHI at WAS, 1st half

Posted: October 16th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 169 Comments »

Some Sunday morning nuggets.

Adam Schefter reported the Eagles have talked about making Juqua Parker available in a trade.  This would likely be a result of the team thinking Brandon Graham will be added to the roster coming off the bye.  This isn’t some kind of scapegoat deal for him jumping offside.

I’d be in favor of the move.  We wouldn’t get much for Parker.  He’s not exactly lighting it up and is dealing with a bum ankle.  I’m all in favor of getting Graham back in action…assuming his knee is good.  I’ll write up a longer post on Graham later this week.

Schefter also mentioned Asante Samuel as possible trade bait.  Yes, please.  His act has worn thin on me.

Now let’s talk about today.

Reuben Frank reported on Twitter that King Dunlap is out.  That means Todd will be at LT and Justice at RT.  Today’s challenge just got that much more difficult.  That should worry me, but we’re the Eagles.  We never do things the easy way.  I mean, why do a single or double Lindy when you can attempt the triple Lindy?

    INACTIVES:

    C Marsh
    J Page
    K Clayton
    T Cole

    J Peters
    K Dunlap
    J Vandervelde

Adam Caplan says the Page deactivation is about play and not the stinger he suffered last week. Good. Send a message.

I think J Jarrett will get some time on defense today. Make sure to watch for that.

No Keenan Clayton? He’s a nickel/dime LB. We’re facing a team that doesn’t use a bunch of spread sets. I think that’s the reason more than the team being disappointed with him, but that’s just a guess. Don’t know that for a fact. I’ve not heard anything about Clayton, good or bad.

  2. 2 Morton said at 12:38 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Easy to send a message when the player you are deactivating is a street free agent signed to a one-year-deal in the offseason.

If they had any real gumption, they’d bench DRC and/or Samuel.

Its not about the money, its about… sending… a message. Everything burns.

I’m not sure why I felt the need to quote “The Dark Knight” there, but I did.

Maybe because I think Morton is actually the Caped Crusader who dons a cape and cowl at night to sweep the streets clean of poor drafting and coaching moves.

See, I’m a man of simple tastes. I like draft picks, good coaching, and mistake-free football…..

And tackling! Do you know what all of these things have in common? They’re cheap!

  5. 5 Anonymous said at 11:56 AM on October 16th, 2011:

Best case: the eagles will win a nailbiter.
Worst case: the eagles will give up 400 yards and 30 points to sexy Rexy.
Most realistic case: the eagles will lose a heartbreaker.

    This victory — yes, today is a victory — is for you . . . .

You’ve earned it on behalf of all of us as fans by pounding the keyboard everyday no matter what.

  7. 7 Anonymous said at 12:17 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Achtung: the Eagles trade Asante to the Lions for Tulloch. How ironic would that be?!

  8. 8 Morton said at 12:42 PM on October 16th, 2011:

It wouldn’t be ironic; it’d be throughly stupid because they could have just signed Tulloch in the offseason as a free agent.

It’s like turning down an offer for a free apple in the school cafeteria before lunch starts, and then halfway through your lunch offering to trade your peanut butter and jelly sandwich for that same apple.

  9. 9 Anonymous said at 12:47 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Or, offering to trade your sunglasses for a football.

    Stupid move.

  10. 10 Anonymous said at 12:45 PM on October 16th, 2011:

I said it in an earlier thread… I don’t want this win solely for the chance of rectifying a broken season. I want this win because its the REDSKINS. I don’t need Vick to put up 6 TDs and 50+ points, I just want the W.

It could go a long way to turning our futile campaign around, and it could also put a dent in the psyche of these “unbeatable super-Skins.”

    Woooooooooorried about Justice.

  12. 12 Zachary said at 12:46 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Yeah, it’s not like this team needs Trent Cole or Jason Peters…..Well at least they don’t need them to continue playing at the elite level they have been….

  13. 13 Zachary said at 12:48 PM on October 16th, 2011:

I’m worried about the whole OL. I hope Mike Vick tries to be Mike Vick this week, not a pocket passer.

Skins sacked Bradford 7 times, before their bye week. They’ve had 2 weeks to come up with a defense to contain and attack Vick. I’m worried.

  14. 14 Anonymous said at 12:53 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Maybe my new drinking strategy is taking effect, but I think the Eagles win this game. This is how it works: The Eagles score points earl because they rack up yards without turning over the damn ball. This forces the Skins to throw, then Rex acts like Rex and the rest is history. Eagles 27-10.

  15. 15 Anonymous said at 12:54 PM on October 16th, 2011:

  26. 26 Zachary said at 1:07 PM on October 16th, 2011:

For a team that’s season is all but on the line – this isn’t a good way to start a game. 2 penalites, 1 drop.

I don’t know, Andy was giving Vick and Marty the business there. Did not look like it was on Maclin.

Brandon Banks should be required to do The Carlton Dance every time he returns a kick for a score

Spags to be fired this week?!

  132. 132 Anonymous said at 2:10 PM on October 16th, 2011:

He shouldn’t be. They’re banged up on the OL, Bradford is hitting a typical sophomore slump. I think there were unreasonable expectations for STL this year. Their schedule has been brutal so far, too… they have 5 or 6 very winnable games once November and December hit.

  133. 133 Corry Henry said at 2:17 PM on October 16th, 2011:

They’re also a very young team and the lockout probably hurt them a lot more than most.

  134. 134 Anonymous said at 2:18 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Definitely. Bradford is having to learn a fairly complex McDaniels offensive scheme, on the fly. With a ton of new and dinged-up receivers, and a banged-up Jackson. Tough year for STL so far.

  135. 135 Anonymous said at 2:09 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Are they telling Banks to take it out every single time?

  136. 136 Anonymous said at 2:10 PM on October 16th, 2011:

    Wow defense be playing today!

  137. 137 Anonymous said at 2:12 PM on October 16th, 2011:

This is starting to look like a “coast” game. That scares the shit out of me, to be honest.

  138. 138 Anonymous said at 2:12 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Linebackers! We don’t need no stinking linebackers.

Not happy with the last 2 trips to the redzone. Should be more then a 3 score game at this point. Eagles are not finishing.

  149. 149 Anonymous said at 2:19 PM on October 16th, 2011:

As excited as I an about the way the game has gone so far, the last to redzone trips can not be excused. We could be up 28 to 0 instead. Considering our past 4th qrt collapses, that does make a difference.

  150. 150 Corry Henry said at 2:22 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Absolutely. They need to capitalize on every opportunity they have. We’ve already seen where a 20+ point lead isn’t enough.

Who’s going to block the ‘Skins FG attempt w/ Dunlop inactive?

Anybody else getting the uneasy feeling that those last two drives ending in field goals is going to screw us in the end?

Or am I just jumpy like an abused spouse?

  153. 153 Anonymous said at 2:31 PM on October 16th, 2011:

Anyone not nervous about those two drives has not watched the eagles very much this season. Stopping them for only a fg was big though.
