Here is my PE.com preview of the Eagles-Cowboys game.

I’m getting more and more confident as I think about the game.  Just gotta wait another 7 hours.

* * * * *

The Giants host the 0-6 Dolphins in a 1pm game.  Let’s go Flipper!

The Skins play the Bills in Toronto at 4:05pm.  The Bills owe us a game.  They should beat Washington.

* * * * *

Someone asked in the last post about why we hate Dallas.  For me, it was Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson.  I detested that duo.  Hated Johnson when he was at Miami.  That hate just carried right on over with him to Dallas.

I’m sure many Eagles fans go back to the 70s when Dallas was annointed “America’s Team” by NFL Films.

I strongly dislike the Skins and Giants, but the level of hate isn’t nearly the same for me.

I do know some Eagles fans hate the Giants the most, in large part due to proximity and having to deal with Giants fans on a regular basis.  I can fully understand that.  Living in the South, I don’t run into many Giants fans.  Cowboys fans?  That’s another story.

* * * * *

I went to breakfast this morning and wore an Eagles shirt.  Guy sees me and asks when the Eagles play.  I tell him we’re the Sunday night game.  He then inquires if I’m an Eagles fan.  I say yeah.  I noticed he had a bit of an accent so I asked him if he was an Eagles fan.  He said yes and that he’d grown up in South Philly.

Really surprised me that an Eagles fan wouldn’t know when the team played on a Sunday morning.  I’m not ripping the guy.  He might have bigger fish to fry and football is a casual thing for him.  I just have a hard time thinking like that.  I know who we’re going to play a week ahead of time.  I can tell you when we played Dallas last year and the year before and so on.  I’m a freak and I don’t expect everyone to obsess the way I do.  Just can’t imagine not knowing.  Heck, I used to have nightmares on the eve of season openers about forgetting games or over-sleeping them.

Maybe someday I’ll try being a casual fan.  Nah, couldn’t do it.  Isn’t in my DNA.

You mean the uniforms we wore in the 2010 season opener or the ones from the Ryan/Kotite era?

A girl I worked with is a “big” Packers fan and last February and after the Conference Championship games she was talking about how the Super Bowl is next week. I told her it was actually 2 weeks, and next week is the Pro Bowl. “What’s the Pro Bowl?”

PS 14-3 Miami twenty minutes in.

Regardless of our differences, every Giants fan I’ve ever met agrees that Dallas sucks.

  17. 17 Anonymous said at 2:16 PM on October 30th, 2011:

The biggest surprise of the season to me have been the Jaguars so far. Their defense is for real!!

  18. 18 Anonymous said at 2:27 PM on October 30th, 2011:

While I am afraid that the Giants will still win vs the Phins in the end, there has not been one impressive team in the NFL today. The mighty Saints look confused against the worst team and the ravens seem to be falling apart. Apart from the packers, the pats and maybe the steelers can you honestly tell me who you fear???

  19. 19 Anonymous said at 2:30 PM on October 30th, 2011:

Giants cut the lead to 14-10 and will probably win, but I want Miami to battle them all game long.

The Eagles can beat any team in the league. Unfortunately, our biggest enemy for much of the season has been us. We help teams beat us and that means we can lose to any team in the league.

Let’s hope that is in the past.

    We all can hope…

Unfortunately, “us” is really the worse enemy because they are on the field every week we play.

  22. 22 Anonymous said at 3:14 PM on October 30th, 2011:

17-10 Miami, at the end of 3.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw has some kind of foot injury. Not sure if he’s coming back in. B Jacobs struggling today.

” Heck, I used to have nightmares on the eve of season openers about forgetting games or over-sleeping them.”

I can recall having some vivid dreams about games the day or so prior. Like I could tell you the plays that were scores from both teams and the final score and stuff. It’s always weird.

  24. 24 Anonymous said at 3:27 PM on October 30th, 2011:

I have been out of touch because the power has been out (yet I still found a way to post this, Tommy)

For me, the Cowboy hatred goes back to the Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, Leon Lett times. They were a team that stood for all the wrong things to me: drugs, cocky, dumb, yet they still kept beating us. It wasn’t the way the world was supposed to work. The good guys were supposed to win in the end. I guess my hatred stems from them violating my moral beliefs. That is going to be tough to forgive. And I am not trying all that hard.

4th Qtr. Dolphins secondary hasn’t covered well at all today. Guys are running wide open. Frustrating because run D has been solid.

    Comeback time for Matt Moore.

  26. 26 Anonymous said at 3:42 PM on October 30th, 2011:

That offensive pass interference call of Brandon Marshall was one of the worst calls i have ever seen. Especially when contrasted with the no call in the third quarter on a third down when the Giants DB jumped on Marshall’s back before the ball got there.

Is it just me or can the kickers not cope with pressure this season?!

  28. 28 Anonymous said at 5:01 PM on October 30th, 2011:

Shocked that Mare missed the chip shot vs MIN. Does seem like PKs are missing some easy kicks.

  29. 29 Kammich said at 4:17 PM on October 30th, 2011:

Odd question… are we going with any special jerseys tonight, seeing as its Primetime/Halloween Eve? Black alternates, or the Kelly green retros or anything?

I got my green Cole, black alternate Bradley(sigh), and Kelly green DeSean all laid out… just don’t know which one to go with yet.

I also haven’t shaved since the moment after our loss to Buffalo. Beard is kicking pretty fierce right now. As if you couldn’t tell, I’m a bit of the superstitious type. Casual fan…? Nah. Not in my DNA either.

  30. 30 Anonymous said at 5:01 PM on October 30th, 2011:

Only wearing green and white this year. Nothing unusual. Not sure why.

Bills defense is getting good pressure on Beck.

  32. 32 Kammich said at 5:56 PM on October 30th, 2011:

With Washington on the ropes, it appears that a win against the Cowboys tonight puts us in a tie for 2nd place with a 2-1 divisional record. Crazy how important this game is going to be.

I’m growing nervous. Time to start drinking.

  33. 33 Kammich said at 5:59 PM on October 30th, 2011:

I wasn’t “down” on Cam Newton this off-season, per se… in fact, he was #13 on my “big board” before the draft. But I never, ever, ever fathomed him being the type of impact player he has become. Carolina looks pretty smart with their off-season moves. Hiring Rivera, drafting Newton, and investing all of their capitol in retaining their own veteran players. Should be dangerous next year.

    Tommy:

Watching the NFL this year, wow, the QB play across the league reminds me of the Bobby Hoying era (’98-’99).

    Here’s a prediction . . . .

The first 3 choices of the 2012 draft will be three QBs: Luck (Indy/Miami), Griffin III (Miami/Indy), Barkley (Seattle, Clev, KC, AZ, Denver — someone will trade up if St Louis has this choice).

Barring miracles, Tebow is making Chris Carter look like Nostrodamus

  36. 36 Anonymous said at 6:19 PM on October 30th, 2011:

Paul Domowich’s column this morning on Philly.com/sports/eagles about the NFL — in the news & notes section — was discouraging.

The Cleveland Browns’ defense — until Dick Jauron — is playing darn good football. Top 5 in yard and points (or something like that).

Why didn’t Andy Reid and/or the front office make him the DC?

Also, to show you how well his scheme is working, Dmitri Patterson is apparently playing NFL-quality football for him.

    I llike Juan.

But I have to believe that Jauron would have been a far better choice.

  37. 37 Anonymous said at 6:21 PM on October 30th, 2011:

I admire the Bill’s nickle-and-dime offense. It keeps Fitzpatick upright, the defense guessing, limits TOs and puts points on the board.

Kinda of like 2 weeks ago when Reid and MM called those quick passes in the 1st half against the ‘Skins and posted 20 points.

  38. 38 Anonymous said at 6:29 PM on October 30th, 2011:

One other item on the Browns defense under Jauron . . .

The Browns have 17 sacks — 1 less than the Eagles.

  39. 39 Anonymous said at 6:46 PM on October 30th, 2011:

ESPN’s hosts on this morning’s show (don’t remember who) were talking up DeMarco Murray — an ALL PRO in waiting.

The theory: Only “great” running backs put up 253 yards, even againt bad defensive teams.

    Two observations:

First . . . that’s exactly the kind of garbage — 1 game and the guy’s an All Pro whom the Cowboys “stole” in the draft — that makes me hate the Cowboys.

Why . . . because I don’t remember ANYONE in the media saying that, after posting 286 yards against the Chiefs, Harrison was an All Pro just in waiting.

    What GARBAGE

  40. 40 Jon Blank said at 6:47 PM on October 30th, 2011:

The Giants are such a terrible 5-2 team. It would be a crying shame to lose tonight and practically hand the division to those phonies.

    Why I hate the Cowboys:
    1) “America’s Team” designation
    2) back in the 60’s and 70’s when the Eagles had horrible teams and the Cowboys terrific teams, the Boys would not only beat us, they would go out of their way to run the score up.
    3) their new stadium
    4) their old stadium
    5) Jerry Jones’ ego
    6) Tom Landry’s ice cold lizard blood
    7) they killed Kennedy – it’s the conspiracy story never told!
