ARZ at PHI – 1st Half

Posted: November 13th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 156 Comments »

Here is the full list of inactives:

QB Mike Kafka
OL Evan Mathis
OL Winston Justice
WR DeSean Jackson

DE Phillip Hunt
CB Curtis Marsh
S Nate Allen

The big story is obviously DeSean.  He overslept yesterday and missed a STs meeting.  Maybe the topic was how not to fumble punts.  Hmm.  Anyway, the team decided to make him inactive as punishment for missing the meeting.

Reuben Frank on Twitter offered this nugget:

Was told by a team official this morning, “This wasn’t the first incident.”

I haven’t heard anything about DeSean this year, but trust me that Reid gives his players a lot of wiggle room with conduct.  Reid is patient.  He doesn’t rule with an iron fist, ala Tom Coughlin.  Reid must have decided that enough was enough and it was time to make a statement.

The key to this is how DeSean responds.  Will he “wake up” and get back with the team?  Will he go into full pout mode and be a major distraction?  This isn’t the way to show the Eagles, or other 31 teams, that you deserve a big deal.

Adam Caplan reported on Eagles Live the other day that he was hearing the Eagles were offering in the $8M range and that DeSean was looking for something closer to $10M.  The Eagles want DeSean to be here.  They want to pay him big money.  They just don’t want to break the bank for a player that isn’t a Top 5 WR and at this point doesn’t even look like the best WR on his team.

Life is never boring for Eagles fans.

* * * * *

My goal for today…a shutout.

I’m sure you’re thinking “Tommy, are you an idiot?”.  Well, yes.  And I’m also a dreamer.  I’ve wanted a shutout for years.  We last had one in November 1996.  That is over 100 years ago, give or take.  I can’t go on without a shutout forever.  So today, I dare to dream.  Not for world peace.  Or a swimming pool full of chocolate pudding.  Or Megan Fox to be in that pool.  I dream of a shutout.

I will settle for a 14-13 win where we kick 4 FGs and then get a late safety to win.

    Oh, DeSean. You so craaaa-zaaay.

Its time to start Hangin’ With Riley Cooper. 22 catches, 380 yards, 6 TDs as the Eagles win 42-0.

Nice reference. I hope Riley does come up big.

  3. 3 Septhinox said at 1:22 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Is Riley still on the team? ( I know he is.)

Seems like he has regressed no?

  4. 4 Anonymous said at 12:56 PM on November 13th, 2011:

At this point, I’ll take a win. Is Buckhalter the last player to miss a game due to oversleeping?

    I think so.

Pdomo: “Andy Reid has won 5 of 6 replay challenges this season. In previous 4 years, he was 7 for 22”

So by connecting the dots it’s obvious that Reid’s poor gameday decisions, the biggest complaint among eagles fans, is the #1 reason we were winning.

Today begins John Skelton’s ascension to the Hall of Fame.

    “My goal for today…a shutout.”

That is actually a reasonable expectation for this team, one that, sadly, we’ll probably come no where near meeting.

Interesting to see how well the O goes within DeSean. With AZ not having to worry about him, me-thinks we could be in trouble, unless AR actually decides to commit to the run (LOL).

  9. 9 Anonymous said at 1:02 PM on November 13th, 2011:

I’m actually kind of excited to see what J-Mac can do in this game without Desean pulling the safeties deep. I think Maclin is on the verge of being a stud…this game could be telling.

I was thinking about something yesterday. I’ve long been ready for Andy Reid to go, but now I’m not so sure. We’ve built one of the top offenses in the league. Does anybody get as much out of Vick as AR does? Doubtful. The thing that needs to change is the defense. It’s hard for me to watch the Eagles and this finesse, bull crap defense. That’s not Eagles defense. We need to get bigger and stronger. We need better, more experienced coaches. We need to let Andy do his thing with the offense and get back to be a physical, intimidating defense in this league. The fact that we’ve lost 6 straight home games is very telling. Teams no longer fear to come to Philadelphia. The defense is a joke. No matter how explosive the offense is, I can’t continue to watch these midgets get pushed around on the other side of the ball.

Oh yeah….Howie Roseman shouldn’t be the G.M. Tommy has more credentials to oversee our draft than he does.

Get physical. Go win today. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGHHHHH! Kick some ass, bring back Eagles football.

  19. 19 Jon Blank said at 1:09 PM on November 13th, 2011:

To be perfectly honest, this is the least excited I’ve been for an Eagles game since 2005. I’d almost rather be playing Skyrim

  20. 20 Corry Henry said at 1:11 PM on November 13th, 2011:

I’m thinking of purchasing a second TV for the living room for days like today. Normally I like to have all my concentration on the football game, but watching the Eagles has been brutal at times.

  23. 23 Eric Weaver said at 1:10 PM on November 13th, 2011:

I don’t disagree with going for it, but you gotta make something happen. You can’t just throw it away.

Plus I don’t like a rollout on 4th down. You’re taking away half the field. Terrible call.

  24. 24 ChowderFACE said at 1:12 PM on November 13th, 2011:

terrible calls are what we have grown to expect over the andy reid era. just add another one to the long list

  25. 25 Kammich said at 1:12 PM on November 13th, 2011:

I don’t have a big problem with going for it there. Kind of no-man’s-land in terms of field position, with a rookie Punter, against an Arizona offense that has given no indication that they can drive 60 yards on anyone. Just wish we had a better playcall… looked like a designed rollout may have gotten it.

  26. 26 Kammich said at 1:14 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Big hit behind the LoS by Jaiquawn. Good to see. We need to come up with a Jeff Jarrett-centric nickname for him.

  27. 27 Eric Weaver said at 1:14 PM on November 13th, 2011:

This team never fails. 3rd and 1 and they give that up plus a 15 yard penalty.

  28. 28 ChowderFACE said at 1:15 PM on November 13th, 2011:

  29. 29 Anonymous said at 1:14 PM on November 13th, 2011:

  32. 32 Eric Weaver said at 1:16 PM on November 13th, 2011:

  45. 45 Jon Blank said at 1:23 PM on November 13th, 2011:

  46. 46 Eric Weaver said at 1:23 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Once again, there is no rhythm to this offense. What are they trying to do? Attack through the air? Attack on the ground?

And Vick is highly erratic. One throw is perfect and Smith drops it, the next throw he overthrows Maclin and gets him hurt.

I didn’t think I could ever be bored during an Eagles game. I’m coming dangerously close to boredom right now.

  118. 118 Anonymous said at 2:02 PM on November 13th, 2011:

My doctor just said I have eye cancer from watching the eagles.

  119. 119 Kammich said at 2:04 PM on November 13th, 2011:

This A’nte Samuel guy is pretty good.

  120. 120 Anonymous said at 2:10 PM on November 13th, 2011:

“Thank u for that gift John Skelton. This has to buy me at least 5 or 6 tackles where I can give zero effort, right?” – inner thoughts of Asante Samuel

  121. 121 Kammich said at 2:11 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Well, he just made Larry Fitzgerald look like Anthony Munoz.

  122. 122 Anonymous said at 2:11 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Skelton is bad. Great arm, but terrible at reading coverage. He might give this game to us. Thank God Kolb isn’t playing. Crowd might have exploded if he shredded our D.

  123. 123 Corry Henry said at 2:11 PM on November 13th, 2011:

    Did Fokou lose his job??

  124. 124 Anonymous said at 2:18 PM on November 13th, 2011:

    Yep.

  125. 125 Anonymous said at 2:12 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Am I the only one that thinks our DL is getting held every pass play?

  126. 126 Anonymous said at 2:18 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Yeah, there does appear to be lots of holding, but no calls.

  127. 127 Anonymous said at 2:14 PM on November 13th, 2011:

This team just can’t stand having a lead.

  128. 128 Anonymous said at 2:15 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Nobody really thought this defense would tolerate a 7 point lead, did they?

  129. 129 Jon Blank said at 2:15 PM on November 13th, 2011:

I guess it would be unrealistic to expect the defense to win anything for us. Lets see how the Eagles can creatively go 3 and out again.

  130. 130 Zachary said at 2:17 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Who called that John Skelton would have more yards, more TDs than Vick, and Beanie Wells would have more yards than LeSean McCoy.

  131. 131 Anonymous said at 2:17 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Our offensive showing is making DeSean’s negotiations much easier.

  132. 132 Anonymous said at 2:17 PM on November 13th, 2011:

    For him.

  133. 133 Zachary said at 2:17 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Did Cromarite almost fumble just changing hands?

  134. 134 Jon Blank said at 2:18 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Really Juan? Rolle on Fitzgerald? The one guy on the Cards you absolutely don’t cover with a linebacker.

  135. 135 Anonymous said at 2:20 PM on November 13th, 2011:

    Hand the ball to McCoy!!!

  136. 136 Anonymous said at 2:21 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Tommy, how are you gonna spin that loss?!

  137. 137 Anonymous said at 2:21 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Boy, that Smith guy can catch.

  138. 138 Anonymous said at 2:24 PM on November 13th, 2011:

just saw an asshole wearing a Cowboys jersey when they panned the crowd in Cincinatti. Those fans really are a bunch of jackholes.

  139. 139 Anonymous said at 2:34 PM on November 13th, 2011:

    In Cincy? Not Buffalo?

  140. 140 Morton said at 2:24 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Come on Cardinals. Help make 4-12/5-11 a reality so the Reid era can finally be over.

  141. 141 Anonymous said at 2:32 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Seriously, you need to just go root for a different team. Argue with the decisions, the players, the scouts, that’s fine, but wishing for your team to lose is unforgivable.

  142. 142 Morton said at 2:33 PM on November 13th, 2011:

If it makes the team stronger in the long run, then how is it unforgivable?

I want this team to win a Super Bowl. Until Howie Roseman / Andy Reid are gone, it is an impossibility. They need better coaches and better talent evaluation in the draft.

  143. 143 Anonymous said at 2:43 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Not everybody gets the concept of short term sacrifice for long term gain. I bet there’s still Chargers fans out there proud their team beat the Colts in 1997, losing the chance to draft Peyton Manning, because “you just don’t root against your team.”

These people are also known as Sixers fans.

  144. 144 Anonymous said at 2:48 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Provide solid undeniable proof that: 1. We can’t win SB with Reid / Howie and 2. We will be stronger in the long run by getting rid of them.

If you can do that, then, and only then, can you cheer against the team. Until that go to packers.com and talk with other like-minded fans

  145. 145 Anonymous said at 2:26 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Vick taking ownership of this drive. Great to see.

  146. 146 Anonymous said at 2:27 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Tell you what we haven’t mentioned Dunlap yet which is really quite impressive!

  147. 147 Anonymous said at 2:38 PM on November 13th, 2011:

That is at least one positive – this guy’s light went on (thanks to Mudd, no doubt – he was a bum under Juan – or was it the bum Juan made him a bum???)

  148. 148 Anonymous said at 2:28 PM on November 13th, 2011:

the two minute offense is still comical.

  149. 149 Eric Weaver said at 2:30 PM on November 13th, 2011:

    Tragically comical?

  150. 150 Anonymous said at 2:32 PM on November 13th, 2011:

    There goes McCoy’s YPC.

  151. 151 Anonymous said at 2:35 PM on November 13th, 2011:

    Exactly. Thanks for nothing Marty/Andy.

    Stats > TDs.

  152. 152 Anonymous said at 2:36 PM on November 13th, 2011:

That is why that play was in Owen territory. Come on guys, use your heads.

  153. 153 Anonymous said at 2:39 PM on November 13th, 2011:

Merrill Reese just said Shady broke the Eagles consecutive games with a TD record set in 1947.

  154. 154 Anonymous said at 2:56 PM on November 13th, 2011:
