NYJ at PHI – 1st Half

Posted: December 18th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 111 Comments »

So Rex Grossman did his part in leading the Skins over the Giants.  Now we need Rex Ryan do to his part, and lead his Jets to a loss at The Linc.

INACTIVES:

OL Winston Justice
OL Julian Vandervele

DT Cedric Thornton
DT Trevor Laws
DE Darryl Tapp
LB Greg Lloyd
CB Brandon Hughes

You have to think Brandon Graham and Juqua Parker will play some DT snaps in the Nickel. Both guys have done that role in the past. Graham was actually quite good at DT last year.

The Skins helped us out. Now we need to make that pay off. Go Eagles!

    Tommy,

I’ve seen some projections of Kuechly now going in the 10 to 15 range. This team better not win out and get beyond that. haha

Well, the ‘Skins did what we needed them to do. Let’s see if the Birds can pull out a win here.

Terrific play by Kurt. Good hustle by Casey and Juqua. Good blocking by BG as well.

    That’s the start we needed.

  12. 12 Kammich said at 4:28 PM on December 18th, 2011:

On a day where the Colts won, the Packers lost, AND I forgot to do my morning ritual to the altar of Craig T. Nelson… well, I’m convinced anything can happen today.

  13. 13 Thorin McGee said at 4:30 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Are they really showing a negative turnover graph, and we’re not even on it?

  14. 14 Kammich said at 4:31 PM on December 18th, 2011:

I miss Colt Anderson. I forgot what a return past the 17-yard line looked like. =(

Hopefully Nelson can pick it up

  16. 16 Corry Henry said at 4:33 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Colt Anderson would have been down there before Cromartie touched the ball. Same with Landri.

    BRENT CELEK!!!!!!

  29. 29 Eric Weaver said at 4:45 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Like I said last week, no one can say Celek isn’t working his ass off every week. He doesn’t have the talent of Jason Witten or some other TE, but he puts in his effort every week.

  30. 30 Kammich said at 4:45 PM on December 18th, 2011:

    BRENT CELEK, MAGNUM T.E.

Wow, Babin has a shot at Reggie’s team record.

  38. 38 Niklas Dyrby Johansen said at 4:53 PM on December 18th, 2011:

    17!!!!

  39. 39 Eric Weaver said at 4:53 PM on December 18th, 2011:

I wish the Eagles had just signed Jenkins, Babin and Asomugha and had been done with it. Brown, Young, etc. put a poor taste on this entire season.

  40. 40 Kammich said at 4:54 PM on December 18th, 2011:

    17 issa lossa sacks.

I’m loving these exotic standing stunts with DEs.

  41. 41 James Coe said at 4:58 PM on December 18th, 2011:

NFL single-season sack record is 22.5 – I wouldn’t say it’s likely, but he’s certainly got a chance of catching it

  42. 42 Anonymous said at 4:54 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Where was this kind of defense the 1st 2/3 of the year?!?!?!?!

    Maddening.

  43. 43 Anonymous said at 4:58 PM on December 18th, 2011:

It does take time for some groups to figure things out. Let’s hope that’s the case with us.

  44. 44 Eric Weaver said at 5:01 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Jets offense isn’t really prolific either. They are the best red zone offense, but still.

  45. 45 Anonymous said at 4:55 PM on December 18th, 2011:

    Where was this?!

I absolutely love what this defense is doing. Am I seeing an actual game plan? Specifically designed for the team and personnel we’re against?!

    What is going on?!

  46. 46 Anonymous said at 4:56 PM on December 18th, 2011:

    Babin’s very good.

But there’s no way I want to see Reggie White’s *21 sacks in 12 games* team record broken.

  47. 47 Anonymous said at 4:57 PM on December 18th, 2011:

I’d rather Reggie keep the record, but I’m not going to cheer against Babin. Maybe Trent Cole can beat him to the QB a few times.

  48. 48 Anonymous said at 5:03 PM on December 18th, 2011:

We normally dry up in Dec, so I’m not complaining. 21 in 12 will never be beaten.

  49. 49 Alex Karklins said at 4:57 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Oh geez, is Juan going to save his job?

  50. 50 Anonymous said at 5:09 PM on December 18th, 2011:

My dream scenario is that we demote him to LB coach when Spags comes in as DC, and maybe Castillo will be ready when Spags takes over for the retiring Reid.

But yeah, he’s having a GREAT game. Damn, where was this?

  51. 51 Anonymous said at 5:12 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Let’s wait for the 4th quarter..

  52. 52 Anonymous said at 5:13 PM on December 18th, 2011:

I forgot about the 4th Quarter. I blame Tommy’s optimism for infecting me and making me forget the likely coming collapse.

  53. 53 Alex Karklins said at 5:21 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Yeah, I’m totally jumping the gun. Sorry, sorry.

  54. 54 Anonymous said at 5:01 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Another challenge AR is gonna win!

  55. 55 Anonymous said at 5:01 PM on December 18th, 2011:

I don’t remember the Refs screwing up such obvious fumble calls with more frequency than this year.

This is at least the 3rd time that Reid’s had to challenge a clearly STUPID call.

  56. 56 Niklas Dyrby Johansen said at 5:03 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Do we have stats on Andy’s challenges this year? Seems like he’s won almost all of them.

  57. 57 Mac said at 5:04 PM on December 18th, 2011:

That has been the biggest “self scouting” improvement of the year…. by far

  58. 58 Eric Weaver said at 5:11 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Kind of ironic that this team is good at running the ball now and Reid is good at challenges and they have a crappy record.

  59. 59 Cliff Hall said at 5:07 PM on December 18th, 2011:

A big win today will just piss me off even more when we fail to reach the Playoffs.

  60. 60 Anonymous said at 5:07 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Great work by DJax on that catch. Gotta give him his props on a play like that.

  61. 61 Kammich said at 5:09 PM on December 18th, 2011:

I am officially giving this first half performance a… THUMBS UP!

  62. 62 Anonymous said at 5:10 PM on December 18th, 2011:

    Tommy

I think we see the Good Vick today!

  63. 63 Cliff Hall said at 5:12 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Shady’s turn for a score, please.

  64. 64 Anonymous said at 5:12 PM on December 18th, 2011:

These are the “unbeatable” Eagles that Reid foresaw in the pre-season.

Unfortunately, the D.C. took 12 games to figure things out (if he has).

Vick still cannot play a whole season — and VY didn’t have a full off-season to learn the offense.

And flukey turnovers (2 against Buffalo, 2 in against S.F.) cost them dearly.

The Eagles coulda been contenders. They coulda been somebody.

Now they get to tee-off against Sanchez.

D-Jax — with only 2.75 games left to get his contract — has really gotten his head back into the game.

I believe that Reid’s had a great relationship w/ him. And tried to protect him.

I also believe that Banner and Roseman have jerked him around. Intentionally.

And, unfortunately, D-Jax let them get in his head

  71. 71 Corry Henry said at 5:19 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Why do we even have Bobby April?!

  84. 84 Eric Weaver said at 5:32 PM on December 18th, 2011:

All this is for naught because you need the Cowboys to lose out. It’s not like they control their own destiny.

  85. 85 Thorin McGee said at 5:34 PM on December 18th, 2011:

The Cowboys lose out routinely. And the Giants are no better.

  86. 86 Cliff Hall said at 5:36 PM on December 18th, 2011:

We play the Cowboys and a motivated Giants team plays the Cowboys in the finale. While not probable, certainly possible.

  87. 87 Anonymous said at 5:46 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Not sure “motivated” is the word I would use to describe the Giants.

  88. 88 Kammich said at 5:32 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Rookie mistakes are just infecting the special teams play.

  89. 89 Mac said at 5:33 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Is JC finding a rhythm, or do the Jets just suck?

  90. 90 Cliff Hall said at 5:34 PM on December 18th, 2011:

I’d like to point our how poorly AR is managing this game. We currently only have 1 time out left in the first half, where as the opposition has all three of their time outs available to them as they make a come back.

    AR… forever our Achilles’ heel.

  91. 91 Thorin McGee said at 5:39 PM on December 18th, 2011:

And how many points were due to using those TOs well?

  96. 96 Thorin McGee said at 5:42 PM on December 18th, 2011:

  97. 97 Kammich said at 5:42 PM on December 18th, 2011:

  106. 106 Corry Henry said at 5:51 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Chalk that up as a win for the defense right there. That’ll be the difference for the game in the end I think. We’re getting touchdowns and holding them to field goals. Need to knock off the turn overs and keep playing well on D.

  107. 107 Kammich said at 5:55 PM on December 18th, 2011:

Yep, I agree. This brutal season has lead to us fearing the worst in every little thing. Holding the Jets to field goals is actually a huge victory in the grand scheme of this game, I think.
