NYJ at PHI – 1st Half
Posted: December 18th, 2011 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 111 Comments »So Rex Grossman did his part in leading the Skins over the Giants. Now we need Rex Ryan do to his part, and lead his Jets to a loss at The Linc.
INACTIVES:
OL Winston Justice
OL Julian Vandervele
DT Cedric Thornton
DT Trevor Laws
DE Darryl Tapp
LB Greg Lloyd
CB Brandon Hughes
You have to think Brandon Graham and Juqua Parker will play some DT snaps in the Nickel. Both guys have done that role in the past. Graham was actually quite good at DT last year.
The Skins helped us out. Now we need to make that pay off. Go Eagles!
Tommy,
I’ve seen some projections of Kuechly now going in the 10 to 15 range. This team better not win out and get beyond that. haha
Well, the ‘Skins did what we needed them to do. Let’s see if the Birds can pull out a win here.
Vick is just too inaccurate.
Excellent play by Matthews there.
Wow ball was out! Touchdown!
CASEY MEATLOAFS.
Holy shit, Casey looks like a professional LB!
JUQUA THOMAS PARKER THE THIRD.
Juqua has 2 TDs.
DeSean and Vick have combined to score 3.
Kurt friggin Coleman!! Nice to see a safety doing a Dawkins impression!!
Terrific play by Kurt. Good hustle by Casey and Juqua. Good blocking by BG as well.
That’s the start we needed.
On a day where the Colts won, the Packers lost, AND I forgot to do my morning ritual to the altar of Craig T. Nelson… well, I’m convinced anything can happen today.
Are they really showing a negative turnover graph, and we’re not even on it?
I miss Colt Anderson. I forgot what a return past the 17-yard line looked like. =(
Hopefully Nelson can pick it up
Colt Anderson would have been down there before Cromartie touched the ball. Same with Landri.
To the windooow, to the waaall… aww, Clete Clete Clete.
16 issa lossa sacks.
Face palm Marsh. Face Palm.
What a bonehead. This is why they’ve lost all these games.
What the fuck is Curtis Marsh smoking?
Someone break out the whipping post, it’s Curtis Marsh’s name on it.
And shove that in your RZ%, Rex!
What a prick!!!
Curtis Marsh now owes Jason Babin AND Assante Samuel fruit baskets for getting the ball back after his mistakes.
Asante is getting a nice Christmas ham from the Marsh family.
Oh Asante how i loathe you sometimes, but then you happen to be in the right place at the right time and I don’t hate you as much
BRENT CELEK!!!!!!
Like I said last week, no one can say Celek isn’t working his ass off every week. He doesn’t have the talent of Jason Witten or some other TE, but he puts in his effort every week.
BRENT CELEK, MAGNUM T.E.
Exactly.
That was a heckuva throw by Vick under pressure in his face!!
Let’s hope Good Vick is the one we’re getting today. He makes a huge difference.
Q1 Brown, Shady and Lewis all with runs. I think Reid has had his hand in GP’ing this week
Philip Hunt . . . stuffs the Wildcat!!!
Philp Hunt stops Shaun Greene
Wow, Babin has a shot at Reggie’s team record.
17!!!!
I wish the Eagles had just signed Jenkins, Babin and Asomugha and had been done with it. Brown, Young, etc. put a poor taste on this entire season.
17 issa lossa sacks.
I’m loving these exotic standing stunts with DEs.
NFL single-season sack record is 22.5 – I wouldn’t say it’s likely, but he’s certainly got a chance of catching it
Where was this kind of defense the 1st 2/3 of the year?!?!?!?!
Maddening.
It does take time for some groups to figure things out. Let’s hope that’s the case with us.
Jets offense isn’t really prolific either. They are the best red zone offense, but still.
Where was this?!
I absolutely love what this defense is doing. Am I seeing an actual game plan? Specifically designed for the team and personnel we’re against?!
What is going on?!
Babin’s very good.
But there’s no way I want to see Reggie White’s *21 sacks in 12 games* team record broken.
I’d rather Reggie keep the record, but I’m not going to cheer against Babin. Maybe Trent Cole can beat him to the QB a few times.
We normally dry up in Dec, so I’m not complaining. 21 in 12 will never be beaten.
Oh geez, is Juan going to save his job?
My dream scenario is that we demote him to LB coach when Spags comes in as DC, and maybe Castillo will be ready when Spags takes over for the retiring Reid.
But yeah, he’s having a GREAT game. Damn, where was this?
Let’s wait for the 4th quarter..
I forgot about the 4th Quarter. I blame Tommy’s optimism for infecting me and making me forget the likely coming collapse.
Yeah, I’m totally jumping the gun. Sorry, sorry.
Another challenge AR is gonna win!
I don’t remember the Refs screwing up such obvious fumble calls with more frequency than this year.
This is at least the 3rd time that Reid’s had to challenge a clearly STUPID call.
Do we have stats on Andy’s challenges this year? Seems like he’s won almost all of them.
That has been the biggest “self scouting” improvement of the year…. by far
Kind of ironic that this team is good at running the ball now and Reid is good at challenges and they have a crappy record.
A big win today will just piss me off even more when we fail to reach the Playoffs.
Great work by DJax on that catch. Gotta give him his props on a play like that.
I am officially giving this first half performance a… THUMBS UP!
Tommy
I think we see the Good Vick today!
Shady’s turn for a score, please.
These are the “unbeatable” Eagles that Reid foresaw in the pre-season.
Unfortunately, the D.C. took 12 games to figure things out (if he has).
Vick still cannot play a whole season — and VY didn’t have a full off-season to learn the offense.
And flukey turnovers (2 against Buffalo, 2 in against S.F.) cost them dearly.
The Eagles coulda been contenders. They coulda been somebody.
Now they get to tee-off against Sanchez.

TOMMY:
Please put a post explaining the goings-on in Denver.
What the fuh. . .
With the way this game is going, Reggie’s record could be in jeopardy *TODAY*.
Anyone else impressed by the LB play today? I mean, by 2011 Eagles standards.
Yeah, how can you not be? It’s been a real good half.
Sanchez apparently watches Romo’s games in Philly.
D-Jax — with only 2.75 games left to get his contract — has really gotten his head back into the game.
I believe that Reid’s had a great relationship w/ him. And tried to protect him.
I also believe that Banner and Roseman have jerked him around. Intentionally.
And, unfortunately, D-Jax let them get in his head
Easiest score of the year for Shady I think.
Kafka > Sanchez.
I really hope Juan doesn’t make a run and Laurie keeps him. If spags gets fired they have to grab him.
This is glorious.
At the very least, we’re doing something that I didn’t think was humanly possible…
…we’re shutting the mouths of both Ryans.
Are we playing the Skins on MNG? Deja vu all over..
It’s like the Eagles and Jets switched uniforms — with the Jets impersonating the Eagles Circa Weeks 1-5. And Eagles being . . . well . . . the Eagles of 2004.
Another first of the season: Asante just tackled a TE!
Was that Trent Cole covering Keller?
Wait was that Trent Cole covering Keller?? Announcers said Rolle, but it looked like it was Cole….
There you go, ACVike!
And again no shutout. Shall we cry?
Can we put DRC back at kick returner?
We couldn’t have blocked that FG?! Come on!
Why do we even have Bobby April?!
All this is for naught because you need the Cowboys to lose out. It’s not like they control their own destiny.
The Cowboys lose out routinely. And the Giants are no better.
We play the Cowboys and a motivated Giants team plays the Cowboys in the finale. While not probable, certainly possible.
Not sure “motivated” is the word I would use to describe the Giants.
Rookie mistakes are just infecting the special teams play.
Is JC finding a rhythm, or do the Jets just suck?
I’d like to point our how poorly AR is managing this game. We currently only have 1 time out left in the first half, where as the opposition has all three of their time outs available to them as they make a come back.
AR… forever our Achilles’ heel.
And how many points were due to using those TOs well?
/sarcasm
Lets take the gift of field position from the dumb TD celebration and drive down the field for a score. Come on, Birds.
Vick is STILL too inclined to run rather than look for a pass.
That was just waiting to happen..
Umm… I’m starting to get concerned here.
Well, Shady was bound to fumble sooner or later.
The amount of turnovers committed by this team is ludicrous.
This team is feast or famine. It’s crazy.
Sure feels that way.
28-0 was too good to be true. Let’s hold ’em to a FG and right the ship at halftime.
Tommy,
It’s the same thing week after week. Regardless of whether the team gets a lead or not.
Eagles and Jets have clearly put their own uniforms back on!!!
Why does it look like Nnamdi is playing safety?
Is he playing safety?
What’s sad is they’ve gotten almost all these points within the last 8 minutes.
Reid used up 14 seconds before making the OBVIOUS decision to use his last T.O.
Really, that’s pathetic.
Chalk that up as a win for the defense right there. That’ll be the difference for the game in the end I think. We’re getting touchdowns and holding them to field goals. Need to knock off the turn overs and keep playing well on D.
Yep, I agree. This brutal season has lead to us fearing the worst in every little thing. Holding the Jets to field goals is actually a huge victory in the grand scheme of this game, I think.
Tommy . . . about the Broncos. Forget it
Those timeouts would surely have been nice..
16 seconds left . . . plus the 14 seconds that Reid let run off the clock.
Horrible.
A bit of a melancholy ending compared to the way the half started, but I’ll still take it. Carry the momentum into the 2nd half and lets dominate the rest of this puppy.
