WAS at PHI – 1st Half

Posted: January 1st, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 54 Comments »

Here are the inactives:

RB LeSean McCoy
WR Ron Johnson
OL Julian Vandervelde

DT Cedric Thornton
DT Mike Patterson
LB Greg Lloyd
CB Asante Samuel

Patt is out with the flu.  Someone on Twitter said McCoy’s ankle was swollen and that’s why he’s out.

Why not play Thornton?  Seems clear that the Eagles don’t think he’s ready yet. He needs a full offseason with Jim Washburn.  With only 3 DTs you can expect to see Juqua Parker and possibly Brandon Graham getting reps on the inside.

Happy New Year everyone.

I know playing in a meaningless game sucks, but this is the final game for a long time so try to enjoy it.

Go Eagles

Happy New Year, folks. This feels slightly deflating, but Tommy is right… its the last time we’re gonna see our Birds on the field for quite awhile, so we might as well enjoy it.

Go Eagles, a lost season will feel a little less meaningless if I can continue to look back fondly upon a 5-1 division record.

Not a compelling start by the offense,.

  3. 3 ToastJenkins said at 1:07 PM on January 1st, 2012:

i cant even get excited of they win, as all i see is a falling draft pick…

  4. 4 Eric Weaver said at 1:09 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Could drop at least 7 spots with one single win.

  5. 5 Kammich said at 1:10 PM on January 1st, 2012:

For real? Wow. I still can’t root for a loss, especially against the hated Skins.

But 7 spots? Damn, that stings.

  6. 6 ToastJenkins said at 1:17 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Everything is a cost/benefit tradeoff. what benefit is there to a pointless win in a sloppy game where most players dont even care?

  7. 7 Eric Weaver said at 1:24 PM on January 1st, 2012:

I may have overstated that after looking at the current strength of schedule percentages. The Eagles are currently at .498 and it probably will not go north much more, if at all.

So chances are they may only fall to 15th or 16th.

  8. 8 Kammich said at 1:09 PM on January 1st, 2012:

    Hehehe, a Sav shank.

  9. 9 Anonymous said at 1:25 PM on January 1st, 2012:

yeah, he couldn’t do that in a game that counted. Even the shanks only hurt the draft position

  10. 10 Kammich said at 1:12 PM on January 1st, 2012:

A nod of my beer to Brent Celek, for playing hard all damn year. Keep feeding that man the ball.

  11. 11 Anonymous said at 1:15 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Agreed. Brent has been great since Week 4 or 5.

  12. 12 Anonymous said at 1:18 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Since week 8 Brent has the second most receiving yards of all TE’s, only behind Gronkowski!

He has played off his baby fat that he showed up with this year.

Interested to see how Casey looks at MLB if he gets extended snaps due to Chaney’s injury.

  15. 15 Anonymous said at 1:31 PM on January 1st, 2012:

so far Jarrett either lost the FB, or made the wrong decision and took off with the WR instead and gave up a 20 yd pass play, and was late getting over to help out on the deep pass that Moss dropped. Not a strong start for the rookie.

Todd Herremans hasn’t looked very good on the opening 3 drives either. Not getting any push in the running game, and struggling in protection.

  16. 16 Kammich said at 1:38 PM on January 1st, 2012:

DRC is playing some tight coverage so far. Good to see.

  17. 17 Mac said at 1:59 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Yeah, possibly not “perfect” but he is tearing it up for sure

  18. 18 Anonymous said at 1:52 PM on January 1st, 2012:

This is maybe the most unexciting game I can remember in long time.

It must suck being a player in this situation.

  19. 19 Daniel Suraci said at 1:53 PM on January 1st, 2012:

I can’t figure this oline out. Some weeks they look perfect on pass protection and other weeks they look entirely asleep.

  20. 20 Mac said at 1:54 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Nate Allen, good heads up play. I still like this guy.

  21. 21 Anonymous said at 1:56 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Hate to say it, but Casey Matthews looks even worse against the run than in weeks 1-3.

He just seems unable to get off blocks. Or compensate with quick reads.

    TOMMY —

Early in the season, Vick hardly looked for Celek.

Now, Celek’s seems like he’s option 1-A (to Maclin being 1).

    What gives?

  24. 24 Anonymous said at 2:00 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Great question. I don’t know. We seem to be forcing the ball to Celek more and maybe that jump-started things.

  25. 25 Anonymous said at 2:02 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Jeez, sometimes Clayton looks so good . . . .

    What’s holding him back?

  26. 26 Anonymous said at 2:07 PM on January 1st, 2012:

There goes the shutout. What a miserable game..

  27. 27 Anonymous said at 2:07 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Jarrett with a missed tackle. Not impressed by this rookie so far.

Middle of the defense has some nice holes in it with Matthews “anchoring” the LBs. Skins having good success running the ball. We’ll get to see how much of the improvement is competition related since this game isn’t out of hand and the Skins should have no reason to abandoned the running game.

  28. 28 Anonymous said at 2:19 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Rough day for Jarrett so far.

  29. 29 Daniel Suraci said at 2:11 PM on January 1st, 2012:

    Derek Landri! Blocked FG!

  30. 30 Anonymous said at 2:11 PM on January 1st, 2012:

ok, seriously, Landri is playing like a machine. If this guy doesn’t get a long-term deal…

He’s been a consistent animal all year

  31. 31 Anonymous said at 2:11 PM on January 1st, 2012:

And Landri saves Tommy’s shutout for the moment!

  32. 32 Anonymous said at 2:13 PM on January 1st, 2012:

It would be fitting if your man Landri got you a shutout this wk.

  33. 33 Brian Winings said at 2:13 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Tommy – was that your favorite play of all time or what?

  34. 34 Anonymous said at 2:19 PM on January 1st, 2012:

    It’s sure up there.

  35. 35 Anonymous said at 2:17 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Derek Landri stuffs a run, blocks a FG, and then inspires Ronnie Brown to run fast.

Landri is a hero to all.

  36. 36 Mac said at 2:30 PM on January 1st, 2012:

He’s probably eating skittles now. Thank goodness for that Seattle game.

  37. 37 Anonymous said at 2:46 PM on January 1st, 2012:

I know you like Landri a lot in the role he is in now, and I fully agree with you on that, but is it possible another team attracts Landri with a starting role?

  38. 38 Anonymous said at 2:26 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Couple of good plays by clayton. Do we have a nickel lb?

  39. 39 Corry Henry said at 2:27 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Derek Landri all up in Grossman’s grill

  40. 40 Corry Henry said at 2:27 PM on January 1st, 2012:

2x. Landri wants a new contract from someone.

  41. 41 Daniel Suraci said at 2:28 PM on January 1st, 2012:

    He just levelllllled Grossman.

  42. 42 Anonymous said at 2:27 PM on January 1st, 2012:

    Landri again.

I’ve also like Brandon Hughes aggressiveness when closing to make a tackle. he’s not afraid to hit!

  43. 43 Kammich said at 2:29 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Can’t take that sack there, and certainly can’t cough up the ball there. Inexcusable. I’m the first person to always shout for Reid to be aggressive in these late-1st-half opportunities, but not if Vick is gonna be careless like that.

  44. 44 Daniel Suraci said at 2:31 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Still trying to figure out what is going on with the line today. He was there real fast.

  45. 45 Corry Henry said at 2:31 PM on January 1st, 2012:

37 turn overs…wow that number is disgusting.

  46. 46 Kammich said at 2:31 PM on January 1st, 2012:

    Nice one, Santana.

  47. 47 Daniel Suraci said at 2:34 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Suddenly Big Red’s clock management issues don’t seem so bad.

  48. 48 Kammich said at 2:34 PM on January 1st, 2012:

The ineptitude of the Skins never ceases to amaze me.

  49. 49 Anonymous said at 2:35 PM on January 1st, 2012:

    Yep.

  50. 50 Anonymous said at 2:34 PM on January 1st, 2012:

    The shutout is still alive.

  51. 51 Anonymous said at 2:37 PM on January 1st, 2012:

I thought Castillo had some nice looks at times on D, and giving up the underneath middle when time was running out and no Skins timeouts was wise.

The other side of the ball is a little disconcerting. The stunts are giving the line fits, Vick isn’t sharp, and no holes in the running game. They’ve gone completely away from the stretch draw that worked so well against Wash last time. Haslett has countered with stunts, but Marty and Andy haven’t countered their counter with anything noteworthy.

  52. 52 Anonymous said at 2:38 PM on January 1st, 2012:

There is absolutely no way of not giving Landri a long term deal, right Howie?!

  53. 53 Anonymous said at 3:03 PM on January 1st, 2012:

How off is Vick today? besides the one maclin td drop, he’s made some terrible throws.

    The Oline is getting worked

  54. 54 Anonymous said at 3:36 PM on January 1st, 2012:

Vick starting to come around and make better throws. Been an up and down afternoon, but no ints are the real key.
