ARZ 24, PHI 0 – 2nd Half Thread

I am literally in a state of disbelief. This has been a nightmare half of football.

I don’t think Vick should be benched right now.  Let him play the 3rd Qtr.  At that point, see what the score is.  If we’re within 14, you leave him out there. Beyond that, play it by ear, but there is something said for putting Foles in.  Let him get some work and spare Vick the pounding he’ll be taking as he holds onto the ball.

This just sucks.

Mike Vick so far this season: 3 TDs, 6 INTs, 5 fumbles.

Also, the balance of evidence right now is on the BAL game being the fluke, not the CLE game.

  2. 2 Baloophi said at 5:50 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Vomit bucket ready… let’s watch some “football!”

  3. 3 Zachary Kaplan said at 5:51 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Tommy you are insane. What has Vick shown over the last year+ to make you believe he’s going to get better? If I’m not mistaken Laruie has said this team should be a playoff team, a Super Bowl team, but I guarantee you we have zero chance at the Super Bowl with Vick. Probably zero chance with Foles, but at least he’s a unknown.

Pocket awareness is something Vick just doens’t have. Situational awareness either (which is something McNabb never had). So I don’t see what point there is in delaying the switch. If it doesn’t happen now, just don’t ever make it.

    T-Law:

It does suck. And we’re seeing the same problems.

But, as I wrote in the 1st-half thread, it’s just 1 game. The Eagles weren’t going undefeated.

  5. 5 TommyLawlor said at 5:54 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Yeah, we need perspective. That’s for after the game. Now is the time to be bitter and angry. 🙂

  6. 6 Baloophi said at 5:52 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Henery’s kick not going out of bounds is probably the only break we’ll catch today.

  7. 7 Baloophi said at 5:52 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I think we need to start calling timeouts to stop the clock now.

  8. 8 Daniel said at 5:52 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

So that’s Andy’s philosophy. It all makes sense now.

  9. 9 Corry Henry said at 5:53 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    …Really?

  10. 10 iskar36 said at 5:54 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Nnamdi and Allen with terrible angles on that play.

  11. 11 nicolajNN said at 5:54 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    Fuck me! Great tackling!

  12. 12 nicolajNN said at 5:55 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

On Vick holding on to the ball, there could be a reason other than Vick sucks! I’m not sure anyone’s open

  13. 13 A_T_G said at 5:56 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Hey so that’s 4 quarters with out an interception! Glad we got that one problem taken care of.

  14. 14 nicolajNN said at 5:57 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    Baby steps

  15. 15 TommyLawlor said at 5:58 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Suddenly I’m happy and the game isn’t such a big deal. Thanks for that. (if only it were that easy)

  16. 16 ACViking said at 5:56 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

The loss of Peters and Kelce is really going to hurt McCoy. And clearly Vick.

  17. 17 Baloophi said at 5:57 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Fair catch at the 5. Smart.

  18. 18 Baloophi said at 5:58 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

For the record, Marlon Favorite would have blocked that punt.

  19. 19 TommyLawlor said at 5:59 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    Brilliant.

  20. 20 Zachary Kaplan said at 5:59 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

In 28 games for the Eagles since 2010 – Vick has:

    53 Total TD’s
    36 Turnovers
    16 Fumbles (kept)

If you ask me – that’s pretty god damn careless for a 100 million dollar QB. A 80 Million Dollar QB. Any QB.

  21. 21 Daniel said at 6:00 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Billick, shhhhhhhhh. Good god. I would rather have Gruden in there.

  22. 22 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:01 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I can’t believe Vick is still in there. I just don’t understand. Why attach yourself to a Turnover machine?
1.28 TO’s per game and growing weekly? I can’t understand Reid/Wieg’s fancination with him. Sure if he was 21…but he’s 32!

  23. 23 MichaelFloyd84 said at 6:03 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

It’s a disgrace to anyone with eyes that Vick is still in there. Just a complete lack of pressure on Reid. It’s time to move on guys. Reid has been average for a decade now.

  24. 24 ACViking said at 6:03 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Why the hell is Bryce Brown in on PASSING DOWNS?!?!??!?

  25. 25 the guy said at 6:04 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Because Shady screwed up the block on the FUM/TD?

  26. 26 Baloophi said at 6:04 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Small time players make small time plays in big situations.

  27. 27 Daniel said at 6:05 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

is to let McCoy stay rested for the postseason (cough).

  28. 28 iskar36 said at 6:06 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I know they like Brown, but Lewis needs to get some playing time.

  29. 29 MichaelFloyd84 said at 6:05 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

How anyone could watch this season and not feel like Vick needs to be benched is beyond me

  30. 30 Andrew Moore said at 6:05 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Well, Shady’s got about 22 yds on 3 carries. Probably time to start throwing again.

  31. 31 Corry Henry said at 6:05 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    yes please, more McCoy

  32. 32 Patrick Pauling said at 6:05 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

why don’t we ever start the game running like this…

  33. 33 dropscience said at 6:05 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

What’s this thing where they hand the ball to someone behind the line of scrimmage? Is that new?

  34. 34 Crus57 said at 6:08 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I think they don’t use it much because they worry the refs will call it intentional grounding.

  35. 35 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:06 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    That was almost turnover #13.

  36. 36 Baloophi said at 6:06 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I think we lead the league in those, too.

  37. 37 TommyLawlor said at 6:07 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    For sure.

  38. 38 Daniel said at 6:07 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Thought the same exact thing. Nearly jumped.

  39. 39 Andrew Moore said at 6:07 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Oh good “Vick’s going to take it on himself to make a play.” That always goes well.

  40. 40 Andrew Moore said at 6:07 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

If we get a field goal here it will be a miracle.

  41. 41 nicolajNN said at 6:08 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Vick gives us the best chance to win. The first half is not on one man. Coaching, O-line, receivers and defense deserves some blame too

  42. 42 Scott Buchanan said at 6:10 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Until Foles gets a chance you don’t know that

  43. 43 Daniel said at 6:08 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

That play was a great example of how our receivers just run into defenders in zone. They never get separation.

  44. 44 Daniel said at 6:10 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I take that back, they actually just jog into them.

  45. 45 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:09 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Alex Henry is great at meaningless FG’s! Yay!

  46. 46 Corry Henry said at 6:09 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

sweet! We’re not getting shut out!

  47. 47 Baloophi said at 6:09 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

That was smart. A ball-control, sustained drive for a field goal when you’re down 24 points. (WHY CAN’T YOU DO THAT IN THE FIRST HALF??!?!?!?!)

  48. 48 Patrick Pauling said at 6:12 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

cards avg starting field position in the first half was the 35yd line

  49. 49 ACViking said at 6:13 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    Re: Juan’s Defense

Castillo’s been put in a tough spot. (Partly his own defense’s doing.)

This 2nd half will be a real test of his half-time “adjustment” skills (if you believe that stuff).

If the Cards keep putting up points, that may say more than we want to hear.

  50. 50 Baloophi said at 6:13 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Do we think the whole season will be Jekyll and Hyde (Browns and Ravens) or will we pick a persona and go with it?

  51. 51 Andrew Moore said at 6:14 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

If AR/MM don’t make that bone-headed call with 6 seconds left in the first half. It’s 17-6 right now.

  52. 52 saltyyambag said at 6:15 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

so last year against the cards we didn’t have desean and said maclin wasn’t good enough on his own……………..

  53. 53 Patrick Pauling said at 6:17 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

hard to think having mac could make much of a difference in this game

  54. 54 saltyyambag said at 8:16 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Kind of what I was getting at, but stated poorly. Though perhaps if it was Maclin on that pass instead of DeSean turtling before the endzone we score and the game goes a different direction.

  55. 55 Patrick Pauling said at 6:16 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    Finally good starting field position!!!

  56. 56 iskar36 said at 6:17 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Has Johnson had a single positive play as a returner?

  57. 57 ACViking said at 6:17 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Washburn is using Tapp & Hunt a lot on 1st & 2nd down.

Then putting Cole and Babin back in on 3rd down.

Hunt’s run defense is pretty damn good.

  58. 58 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:19 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I know the WR’s and the OL aren’t helping, but that’s just another example of poor awareness. He did everything right, fel the pressure, moved up in the pocket….but then just sat there. Take the extra yard.

  59. 59 Baloophi said at 6:20 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Looks like Damaris just got injured.

  60. 60 Baloophi said at 6:23 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Never mind. I guess when you fill in for Maclin you also have to hobble off the field and then come back in on the next play.

  61. 61 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:21 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Darryl Washington would be the greatest player in NFL History if he played the Eagles 2 times a year.

  62. 62 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:22 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Here comes the FG unit. This should be 4 down territory, but not for Reid.

  63. 63 Baloophi said at 6:23 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    We’re averaging 2 points a quarter.

  64. 64 ACViking said at 6:23 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Gotta say . . . Vick’s pocket presence continues to frustrate.

    THROW the Ball AWAY

  65. 65 Corry Henry said at 6:23 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I don’t get that. It’s still a 3 posession game, field goal or not.

  66. 66 iskar36 said at 6:23 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

On the throw to Avant, Vick had time to get him an accurate pass. Bang could have gotten the first if Vick hit him with a better throw.

  67. 67 Baloophi said at 6:24 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

It looked like (to me) that he was throwing to Damaris Johnson, and Avant jumped up and stole it… thankfully, because Johnson was covered.

  68. 68 iskar36 said at 6:25 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    Ha. That’s even worse.

  69. 69 saltyyambag said at 6:25 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I thought the same….and was thankful it was not intercepted

  70. 70 Andrew Moore said at 6:23 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

If AR/MM don’t make that idiot call at the end of 1st half, the score is now 17-9. It’s a one possession game.

  71. 71 Jeppe Elmelund van Ee said at 6:24 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Had we scored a TD on the fumble just before the half, the score would now be 13-17…

  72. 72 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:26 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I was going to say if we didn’t have a moron for a QB, at worst it’d be 17-9, or a 1 score game….

  73. 73 ACViking said at 6:25 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

If Avant let’s that pass go, it’s 5 more yards to D-Johnson.

  74. 74 Arby1 said at 6:25 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

We’re now down 18, making it much harder to win by 1.

  75. 75 Scott Buchanan said at 6:25 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    8-8

  76. 76 ACViking said at 6:25 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    T-LAW:

In the DGR . . . please talk about the O-line.

Is this a talent problem. Or a scheme problem. I know Mudd’s reputation . . . but what’s the deal?

  77. 77 MichaelFloyd84 said at 6:26 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    QB problem

  78. 78 Corry Henry said at 6:26 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

It could simply be a Dallas Reynolds problem. He’s inexperienced and maybe isn’t making the line calls correctly.

  79. 79 Daniel said at 6:27 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Sure looks like a talent problem to me. They’re getting by without an OLineman touching them.

    Slow off the ball.

Though I really want to know what happened to Heremanns this year. He has looked horrible.

  80. 80 ACViking said at 6:27 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    T-Law:

Card O-coordinator has done a GREAT job of scheming to get Fitzgerald lined up on Boykin. Mismatch.

  81. 81 TommyLawlor said at 6:28 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Yeah, they’ve been creative with Fitz. Good job by them.

  82. 82 iskar36 said at 6:29 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Castillo needs to scheme around that though. Good job by their offensive coordinator, but Castillo needs to do better.

  83. 83 Baloophi said at 6:28 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

This game has all the fun of a calculus test… but is twice as long.

  84. 84 Mike Perrie said at 6:29 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I honestly do not see the love for Vick. In 08 Reid benched Mcnabb. Why is he scared to bench Vick? Can Foles really be THAT bad? Doubt it.

  85. 85 Baloophi said at 6:30 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Punishment for the team should be to watch this game 4 times in a row.

  86. 86 Arby1 said at 6:31 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    WITH commercials!

  87. 87 Baloophi said at 6:32 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Yes! And they can’t mute Billick…

  88. 88 Arby1 said at 6:34 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    That’s a little extreme, don’t you think?

  89. 89 Baloophi said at 6:40 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

It might actually violate the Geneva Convention.

  90. 90 Baloophi said at 6:33 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Avant almost stripped McCoy there… would that still count as a turnover or would we get credit for forcing the fumble, too?

  91. 91 TommyLawlor said at 6:35 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Looked to me like he was grinding on him. I’m not against that, but save it for the locker room.

  92. 92 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:33 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

My god our WR’s do a shit job for LeSean McCoy.

  93. 93 ACViking said at 6:37 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    T-Law:

The Eagles really do need a *big* WR . . . one who’s better than Cooper (whom I like, but who’s shown problems tracking long passes).

    And isn’t on the field

  95. 95 MichaelFloyd84 said at 6:39 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

  96. 96 Daniel said at 6:37 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Playing great ball control football now. Seriously?

  97. 97 Patrick Pauling said at 6:37 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

  98. 98 Patrick Pauling said at 6:38 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Why does an arizona coach have oven mitts on?

  100. 100 Corry Henry said at 6:39 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

That seems like a good use of a challenge on a pass of 3 yards.

  101. 101 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:39 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I mean I’m hard on Reid. But seriously Wisenhunt is challenging a 3 yard reception that keeps the clock running?

  102. 102 Baloophi said at 6:41 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

He must be facing Celek in fantasy this week.

  103. 103 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:44 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Wow. Wow. Great coaching, great QB play. Great team.

  104. 104 A_T_G said at 6:46 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

AC Viking, is right. It IS only 1 game. We are still atop the division. We have shown the ability to mount a comeback (although not this week), and we have the talent. This is tough to watch, but you are approaching Morton territory. That is not a place you want to go.

  105. 105 iskar36 said at 6:44 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Can not take a sack there. Incredibly dumb!

  106. 106 Daniel said at 6:45 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

What can Vick do there? Two guys were completely untouched coming at him.

  107. 107 Baloophi said at 6:44 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

One thing’s for sure: this team looks ready for the Giants next week.

  108. 108 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:44 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Too early to fire Reid with a 2-1 record? I mean it’d be a first, but come on, this is a 8-8 team….at best.

  109. 109 MichaelFloyd84 said at 6:45 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Even you and your reid-like mind can admit its time for Foles, right?

  110. 110 Scott Buchanan said at 6:46 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Cant win with #7… Throw Foles in the fire and see what happens here at the end

  111. 111 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:47 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Lets all look on the bright side. We don’t face a losing team until week 8, when we play the New Orleans Saints.

2-1….up next NYG, PIT, DET, ALT, NO, and DAL

We could have a nice 2-7 start, I mean I’d feel somewhat confident picking against Philly in all those games, we clearly have the worst QB in that strech.

  112. 112 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:50 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Hahahaha this team is a joke.

  113. 113 Baloophi said at 6:50 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Anyone else rooting for the clock to tick faster?

  114. 114 ACViking said at 6:51 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

It’s sad how obvious the draw play was going to be.

Terrible defensive awareness. From coaches to players.

  115. 115 Daniel said at 6:51 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

DRC’s penalty was the best hit we had on them all day.

  116. 116 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:53 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I’m rooting for the season to end. Got 2013 to look forward to. Same coaches, same players, same team as last year. Why should I believe we are a playoff/super bowl contender?

  117. 117 Baloophi said at 6:55 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I guess because the Giants were garbage last year for most of the season. The sad truth is we’ll be tied for first in the division after this diarrhea-fest.

  118. 118 Zachary Kaplan said at 6:57 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I understand the record is servicable, but I haven’t seen a good game of Football played by this group.

  119. 119 Baloophi said at 7:02 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Nor I… but we’re one concussion away from seeing what Foles can do – it could be a very different team.

  120. 120 Scott Buchanan said at 6:57 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Ah but you forget the Giants have an elite QB

  121. 121 Scott Buchanan said at 6:53 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I’m telling you it’s 13 games and counting for the Reid era

  122. 122 Corry Henry said at 6:53 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

This is pathetic. They KNOW it’s a run and yet, they can do nothing to stop it.

  123. 123 iskar36 said at 6:55 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

  124. 124 Baloophi said at 6:56 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Brace thyself for the “this was the wake-up call we needed” nonsense to be broadcast out of Novacare this week…

Why the timeouts? Really 24-6, in the redzone, we really need to extend this game? Fucking Andy.

As much Castillo love as there was the first two weeks, he did not come prepared today. He has been out coaches by the opposing off. Coordinator

  127. 127 ACViking said at 7:01 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Not sure you’ve ID’d the correct coordinator who was out-coached.

  128. 128 A_T_G said at 7:02 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Yeah really. Castillo’s unit could have pitched a shutout and we still would have lost.

  129. 129 iskar36 said at 8:00 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

That’s fair. MM clearly got dominated in this game, but unfortunately, I don’t see him going anywhere as long as AR is here. We will stick with the unbalanced attack and keep forcing a gameplan that is clearly flawed because AR thinks he can just keep doing something until it works.

  144. 144 Zachary Kaplan said at 7:07 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

What NoDecaf said. It’s a team we “always” marked as a W when the schedule came out, but then they smacked the losers we root for in the mouth, in played us tough constantly.

By my count 5-8 under Reid.

    0-3 against Wisenhunt.

    yeah, they quit.

  151. 151 Baloophi said at 7:09 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    Tommy,

To echo AC-Viking, I think we’d all “enjoy” an analysis of the O-Line in terms of both talent and scheme. Obviously it’s not always their fault when Vick gets demolished, but it does seem like whether he’s holding the ball all day or not, there are people streaming into the backfield like McDonald’s is offering the McRib for only three hours and they’re all located in Vick’s helmet.

  152. 152 Arby1 said at 7:14 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

  153. 153 ACViking said at 7:09 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

    T-Law:

You need to give us some serious analysis on the O-line.

    Again, is it talent?

Is it the coaching? (I know Mudd’s reputation. But w/ Peyton Manning as the QB, a lot of problems get covered up.)

OR . . . is it the offensive scheme and play calling?
    ________________

One thing about Reid, for all 13 years, he’s so stubborn when it comes to adjusting his scheme to the talent.

No better example was the night Winston Justice was abused by the Osi U.

  154. 154 the guy said at 7:10 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Can’t speak for last year, but not many o-lines excel after losing both their starting C and star LT in the same season.

  155. 155 Zachary Kaplan said at 7:14 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I don’t think it matters. The best 5 Olineman of all time, couldn’t block for Vick/Reid. I feel like it’s Reid coaching since McNabb, Vick and Kolb had issues with holding the ball forever. Offensive lineman shouldn’t be expected to block for 5 seconds all day.

  164. 164 Daz said at 8:24 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

It doesn’t matter what sport you are playing, if you keep giving the ball to the other team, you’re probably going to lose. I’m in Australia, so I didn’t get to see how bad this game was (I kinda feel lucky!), but reading the play-by-play this morning and reading your reactions here – wow, the Eagles should be ashamed they can’t hold onto the ball!

Since Reid joined the Eagles, there’s been constant commentary (criticism) that he needs to run the ball more. Against CLE, Tommy argued they were giving Vick a chance to blow off some rust. Fair enough, I’ll take that… but why did Shady get just 13 touches today? Reid/MM need their heads read!

I’ve never subscribed to the negadelphia vibe (probably being half a world away helps!), but I’m feeling pretty shitty about where this team is heading right now, the 2-1 record is a little unbelievable considering the number of times we’ve turned it over… Tommy – love your work, but surely even your eternal optimism has to be shrinking?

  165. 165 A_T_G said at 8:58 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

What about baseball? Keep giving the ball to their pitcher, you win.

Point taken, though. The likelihood of Vick turning this around, combined with the time we would benefit from that unlikely outcome make me think it is time for a change.

I wonder if we could get Skelton as a backup for Foles…

  166. 166 Daz said at 10:35 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Ha – way to pick the hole in my argument there… Although, technically, in Baseball, you’re on offence at bat, so it would be more like giving the “bat” away 😉

Look, I specifically didn’t single Vick out, because, as terrible as he has been (3TD/6INT/5FUM and a 66.2 passer rating does not read like the stat line of a $100Mil QB) – Shady has fumbled (twice), BBrown has fumbled, Damaris has fumbled, Henery has missed field goals, and the OL has missed blocks (I read somewhere that Vick got hit 20+ times today!). So I don’t know that we can dump all the offensive problems on Vick, but he sure needs to make some significant improvement in the very near future to justify his pay-packet.

It seems like they either aren’t taking it seriously, or are seriously under-prepared? Oh yeah, and did anyone notice we’re now ranked 32nd in the league in points scored per game?

This negadelphia stuff sucks! Tommy, can’t wait for your positive take on things!

  167. 167 A_T_G said at 11:29 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

I wasn’t trying to put words in your mouth, and I agree that the offensive line has been an embarrassment. At least 2 of the fumbles, a Shady one and the Brown one, I put on the blocking. Guys have to hold on to the ball, but they need to have time in the backfield to secure it.

At some point, though, Vick needs to adjust to the reality that he needs to get rid of the ball quicker. I can’t imagine that he will be back next year; his pay won’t be guaranteed and he will be 33. So, his appeal is that he gives us the best shot at postseason success this year. But, does he? I’m starting to wonder.

  168. 168 Julz said at 8:23 AM on September 24th, 2012:

It was the middle game on OneHD this morning at 6. Not sure if you have it though. I watched on Gamepass, was not a pleasant experience to begin the day with that’s for sure.

Plays break down and blocking breaks down because Vick holds the ball too long and moves out of the pocket. O-line isn’t protecting a standard pocket anymore and can’t see where Mike is so they can’t make a sustained block on a D-lineman who has eyes on the QB. Combination of missed blocks, receivers not getting open and Vick just missing the play.

It’s frustrating as hell to watch him get hit on every play, I think I saw about 3 passing attempts where he kept his feet.

Was even more frustrated at the end when the game was dead and we insisted on keeping him out there to get punished. I’d have like to see how Foles went in a situation like that and whether there was a cleaner pocket.

  169. 169 Bleedgreen said at 8:32 PM on September 23rd, 2012:

Tommy, is there a reason the coaching staff is constandtly trying to get the bog play even when its obvious its not workong? I was at the game and it was a complete disgrace to watch the arrogance of MM and AR. Vick was getting punished the whole first half and it was obvious that the o line was struggling yet they kept on trying to throw the ball downfield. The underneath and intermediate routes would have been open but all the recievers were running 20 yards downfield for the most part. IMO, this Eagles defense is capable of controlling games and keeping the game close, and so why doesn’t the offense try to help them out by changing field position. The cardinals were constantly getting good field position and the eagles were constantly backed up on their own half of the field. This team can win games with the offense managing the game rather than trying to go out and put up a bunch of points. Andy isn’t calling the game to the team’s strengths. The coaching staff seems too infatuated with the big play.
