PHI 7, DET 6 – 2nd Half Thread

We’re 2-0 this year with the lead at the half. So that means we can all relax, right?

Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Very ugly game so far. The defense has been tough, but we can’t count on Matt Stafford going 6 of 18 in the 2nd half. Our offense must continue to move the ball and score points. The first 1.5 quarters were awful. Got better the last 5 or so minutes. Offense got in a rhythm.

Vick is taking a beating. OL needs to tighten up. He needs to make better decisions. Run game had a tough time since Lions mixed in 8-man fronts and blitzed a lot early on. Both coaching staffs have some interesting decisions to make about what to do in the 2nd half.

Just once…I’d like a game I can enjoy. Hasn’t happened so far this year.

Everything I’ve seen so far this year leads me to believe the offense will disappear again (in terms of points) until the last few minutes of the game.
Oh, and there will be some sort of defensive breakdown leading to a TD that enables people to spend the next 2 weeks focusing (incorrectly) on the defense as a problem.

On that last drive, from the angle of the Fox cameras, it looked like Vick’s 3rd-down pass to Avant was behind him and forced him to turn inside.
If it wasn’t — and you’ll see on your review — then, yes, Avant, made a horrible play.

The defense as a whole is playing fantastic. I’m not arguing that. But the DLine needs to get rolling if we want to be successful long term this season. 12 quarters without a sack. That is three games. That will eventually cost us.

They drove the ball well, but they got to get the ball in the endzone at the en of that drive. They ended that drive with a big win for the lions when it could have been a momentum changing drive.

Win this game and do better the rest of the season. Instead of making Nick Foles the injury replacement for Vick, change that up and put Foles in as the QB the next series and keep it that way.

I love being an Eagles fan, but Vick’s ups and downs are kiiing me, although that TD took nearly all of the pain from bad plays away.

To me, Castillo’s defense is over simplistic. We are not getting sacks or tunrovers and he refuses to get creative. Our defense has the talent, but is not making plays. That is on Castillo.
10pt leads with 5:00 minutes left should be easy to close out. That defense needs to make a play and end the game. They didn’t.

He’s a knowledgeable guy, the way he sees the game is how the guys in the locker room are having to look at it. They can’t say well we’re bad, all is lost, fire Andy Reid. They can’t check out for the season. Anger, disappointment, embarrassment all around, but if you’re looking for hate on this team, there is no shortage of blogs and boards out there that are lighting up with it.

Vick – once again to many terrible decisions where the best case scenario is an incompletion.
OL – Absolutely pitifull. No other words describe it. Total lack of any sort of talent. No runblocking AT ALL, no time for Vick, making him eve worse.
Defense – Good for the first 3 quarters, although Stafford missed some crazy open guys. Melts down in the end and we cant make a freaking play at any point. Did we even get a sack?
Coaching – Did we have a gameplan? Lions did whatever on offense, and we never did anything different to stop them. Was anyone surprised that Calvin J delivered in the end?
At least we get a win after the bye.

Maclin went 70 yards to put us up by 10….everybody went home to enjoy the bye week with a win….including the players, awful.. This is one of those times where I don’t go within 10 channels of ESPN until we’re playing Atlanta for some kind of redemption.
The O-line is in a dire place. We couldn’t run, couldn’t pass, and this was at home with no crowd noise “confusion”.
Extremely discouraging that the Lions can say, “ok, it’s do or die, get it to Calvin”–Over and over and over. Doesn’t matter how many people you put on him. How do you manage to lose a game with that guy on your roster?
Which brings me to the D-line. Ok, Megatron is possibly the most talented WR in the History of the game, he’s up there. It’s up to the D-line to make sure the QB doesn’t get well thrown passes to him. No sacks again. Got pressure throughout the game, but not enough when it counted. Cox gets ejected from the game, might be looking at suspension.
And to top it all off, we come out of the longest bye I’ll ever experience, to face a very good Falcons team that is also coming off of a bye, there is a very real chance we sit at 3-4. The only good news is we have the opportunity to come out of the bye and play good football, which there is no film to study what that looks like. Uhg. Tommy, you’re in NC too right? Where you drinking tonight, I think I’ll join.
