CAR at PHI – 1st Half Thread

Are you ready for some mediocre football?  Me too!!!

Inactives:

QB Michael Vick

RB LeSean McCoy

RB Chris Polk

WR Jason Avant

WR Greg Salas

OL Nate Menkin

DE Phillip Hunt

We have 10 active DL.  I sure hope Darryl Tapp loses some snaps to Vinny Curry.  Let’s see what the kid can do.

Big hope is that MNF brings out the best in the players.  This is their chance to show everyone watching that they can still make plays and play at a high level.  Or not.

Go.

Eagles.

I guess.

  • http://www.facebook.com/hesselfitness Ben Hessel

    Greg Salas is inactive?…. NOOOOOO!!!!!

    • TommyLawlor

Settle down!!! We’ll find some way to overcome this. I promise. Who am I kidding? PANIC!!!

  • lilmc

Let’s go Birds. Tired of losing.

    • TommyLawlor

      Agreed.

  • kaninfaan

empty seats! wtf is wrong with some people!

  • P_P_K

I’m letting my 10 year-old son stay up and watch the game. Does this count as child abuse?

    • TommyLawlor

      Yes.

    • A_T_G

There was a warning before the kickoff that some of the offensive line play may be unsuitable for children.

      • P_P_K

        My son is cracking up!

  • lilmc

    Nice run kid!

  • shah8

    much better offense

  • shah8

    dang…two almost interceptions!

    Where is the freakin’ run!

  • P_P_K

Did you hear Gruden? “Another horrendous rz set of plays.”

    • shah8

“the eagles strength on defense is rushing the passer”…he’s an idiot.

  • A_T_G

Except for the 3 instead of 7, that actually looked… um… good?!

    • TommyLawlor

Good drive. Got the ball to playmakers. Looked crisp. Gotta be better in the RZ.

      • A_T_G

Now, if we can do that about 60 more times, we get our parade.

  • shah8

Heh, and reading that earlier blogpost…not a surprise you couldn’t move Seth Joyner off his position. Joyner looks to have my view, and that’s flattering, but it’s just very, very, hard to blame Vick in any objective sense for the poor operation of the offense. It’s not even that the line is weak, but that it was lacking in any sort of consistent cohesion, and give up pressure up the A gap too regularly for any QB to succeed well.

  • eagles2zc

Oline opening huge holes for runs. I couldn’t believe my eyes

  • GermanEagle

    Find the error:

It’s almost 2am over here, the 3-7 Eagles are playing for the last place in the NFC and I am still watching it live…

    • P_P_K

      You’re a true Eagles fan.

    • TommyLawlor

      Dedication.

    • Mac

      #hardcore

  • eagles2zc

DRC giving Smith a lot of respect if that was man coverage

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

I told myself I wouldn’t stay up to watch this turd fest…and here I am…

  • DamonL86

    Defense really making a statement

    • P_P_K

Yea, the kind of thing usually written on bathroom walls.

    • A_T_G

I just wish the defense’s statement wasn’t so offensive.

  • eagles2zc

    Panthers made it look easy

    • shah8

They were never that bad. Classic case of losing games in lots of bullX ways. Against an injury-ridden team? **sigh**

      • shah8

Hmmm, TD is partially on Coleman, again…

  • TommyLawlor

Well, that sucked. CAR made that look really easy.

    • lilmc

That was just awful. I may need to go on a PBR run. I may not have enough in the house the way we play defense.

  • phillychuck

Defense playing at their normal level. No pressure on the QB, no coverage.

  • ceteris_paribus1776

Defense continues to be an utter JOKE!!!

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

I know Nhamdi is going to get a job next year with some team, but wow does he look lost and uninspired.

    • P_P_K

      A huge disappointment ths season.

  • DamonL86

I don’t think we missed a tackle on that drive though so that is a positive.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

April’s coaching for Boykin should be to always take a knee in the endzone. Why did he run that out?!

  • SleepingDuck

With the 1st overall pick in the 2013 draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select….

    • TommyLawlor

      I don’t think we’ll overtake the 1-10 Chiefs.

      • SleepingDuck

        Are you sure?

        • GermanEagle

I was about to write the same! Lol

      • BobSmith77

No shot. Romeo Crennel would have to be in the pantheon of worst NFL coaches of the past 25-30 years.

  • eagles2zc

After seeing the replay I’m still not sure why he was wide open

  • shah8

A bit over 3 seconds for that sack

    • eagles2zc

Yep, held it a little long there

  • A_T_G

That was good pocket awareness. Foles dropped back and realized there wasn’t one.

    • TommyLawlor

      Well played sir.

  • TommyLawlor

Both OTs got moved back on the sack. Foles had nowhere to go.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=565087931 Jeppe Elmelund van Ee

    What is wrong with me?
It’s 3 am here in Denmark, and I have work in the morning.

    • GermanEagle

      Rookie.. ;)

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=565087931 Jeppe Elmelund van Ee

        haha

  • shah8

/me is sick to the stomach

  • DamonL86

    Nicely timed blitz there.

    • eagles2zc

Was that delayed blitz? They rushed in a little late

  • eagles2zc

    Ooohhh booyyy. Long night ahead

    • TommyLawlor

      Not good.

  • A_T_G

See now, by comparison, we made them work for it on the first drive.

    • eagles2zc

      Lol too funny

  • BobSmith77

Didn’t think the pass coverage could be worse this year than last but I was wrong. Been brutal to watch these guys the past month.

  • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

All 200 fans at the Linc sound upset.

  • noah heulitt

This may be the least inspired performance yet

  • lilmc

Well the way Lurie is firing non football people after losses, the cleaning crew better watch their backs!

  • A_T_G

Anyone in favor of firing Reid and making Castillo interim HC, at halftime?

    • TommyLawlor

I don’t know if I could handle the PCs.

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

How does a defense, with a DB coach as a coordinator, have so many blow assignments in the defensive backfield?

    • eagles2zc

      Double duty I’m guessing

  • DamonL86

We just need Foles to somehow play against our D and he will be fine.

    • http://twitter.com/corry_k Corry Henry

That’s why the coaching staff is so high on Foles. They see him in practice against this shit during the week. He probably looks awesome.

  • phillychuck

    No pride.

  • DarthBanner

I’m starting to think Andy might get fired tomorrow.

  • lilmc

    What a BS call.

  • BobSmith77

If the Eagles lose tonight by 21 or more pts tonight and get embarrassed on national TV, I do think Lurie has to plug on Reid tomorrow.

    • P_P_K

I think earlier Tommy established the over/under at 20.

      • BobSmith77

Made a bet with a coworker (Reading Terminal Market lunch and loser pays) that Reid gets canned if they lost by 3 touchdowns tonight.

Just can’t see the Panthers putting up that many points though.

  • bdbd20

Why is everyone so upset, it’s just pre-season.

    • A_T_G

Actually… the season is over, so we are playing in the post season now, right? Who said we wouldn’t get there?

      • P_P_K

        Good one!

  • A_T_G

Now that we set them up with the fake twice, they won’t know what to do on the actual bad shotgun snap.

    • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

      Wish you weren’t right

  • TommyLawlor

Losing 14-3 to Carolina at The Linc. Anyone recognize that score?

    • P_P_K

      You’re cruel, sir.

  • http://www.facebook.com/salmonofcapistrano Mike Roman

I think if we give Reid another year he’ll see we have a great 1-2 punch at RB…

    • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

I’m not sure splitting 13 carries between 2 RBs qualifies as a 1-2 punch

  • http://twitter.com/dfowler587 DF587

Yikes. Did you see the Field Goal unit coming off the field. Shouldn’t they be excited that they did their job well?

  • http://www.facebook.com/salmonofcapistrano Mike Roman

And Andy is upset that Cox was running on late for the FG. That’s the problem.

  • GermanEagle

at least we will (re) build around our all pro kicker…

    • P_P_K

If the rules committee eliminates touchdowns we’ll go undefeated.

      • A_T_G

Yep. When the rules committee eliminates running and touchdowns, everyone will realize just how visionary AR/MM truly were.

  • BobSmith77

Only time the Panthers have scored more than 14 pts all year in the 1st half vs the depleted Saints in Week 2. Hadn’t scored more than 10 pts in the 1st quarter all year.

  • shah8

    W O W

  • lilmc

    Great run kid!!!

    • TommyLawlor

That was awesome. Great size/speed combo.

      • lilmc

Shady and Bryce could be a devastating combination.

  • bdbd20

Damn. Mr Brown wants to be on this team.

  • BobSmith77

I would bet the Eagles are among the league leaders in penalties that have wiped out positive yardage this year. Been a long time that the Eagles have played such consistently stupid football in all 3 phases (offense, defense, and special teams).

  • bdbd20

    Nice decision there Andy.

    • DarthBanner

Andy needs to start abiding by the Costanza philosophy, and do the exact opposite of what his instinct tells him to do.

      • P_P_K

        Serentiy now!

    • GermanEagle

I would have gone for 2 as well. Who knows if we ever score a TD again today…

  • SleepingDuck

    Why did Andy for 2?!!?!?

  • BobSmith77

    First 21 plays – 11 passes, 10 runs (1 Foles scramble)

  • the midatlantic

    DEREK LANDRI

  • A_T_G

Who is this kid in 94? Laundry, or something?

  • bdbd20

Maybe some of our guys found some PED’s

    • TommyLawlor

      If that’s what it takes…

  • lilmc

    Nice run back DJ.

    • A_T_G

Well that’s not going to work for a nickname.

    • TommyLawlor

      That was good.

  • SleepingDuck

Gruden is already drooling over the possibility of coaching Brown… Pass..

    • http://twitter.com/Khidr9 Khidr9

That guy loves EVERYTHING. “every year a star is born.” I accept that he’s probably a very different color commentator than he is a coach, but I can’t imagine that kind of disney-like optimism in Philly.

      • SleepingDuck

Neither can I.. Plus I dont like hiring guys who have been out of the job for a while.

  • bdbd20

It’s really amazing how well play-action works when you actually run the ball.

    • eagles2zc

      Yep

  • eagles2zc

As good as Brown has been, the Oline deserves some prop for opening up running lanes

  • Concussed FB

Nice to see it only taking turning your starting QB’s and best RB heads to mush before you commit to the running game.

  • BobSmith77

‘Dink and Dunk’ seems to be the new philosophy with Foles under center. Not even trying to hit anything long on the first reads it looks like.

  • shah8

Remember, Brown is doing this with a OL that has been struggling with run-blocking. The OL does seem better today.

  • lilmc

    Can’t throw that ball.

    • Concussed FB

He needs that drummed into his head.

    • bdbd20

He’ll learn. This is why he has to play now.

      • shah8

Young pretty things that are worth anything at all, have enough field awareness such that not throwing three would be interceptions in a half is a reasonable expectations. He’s just a warm body. No “has to play now” to it. Only about surviving. Hopefully, he will end up with a better day than Charlie Batch.

  • the midatlantic

    Foles needs glasses

  • shah8

    Run the ball, Andy.

  • GermanEagle

Foles threw already 3 non-ITs with 2 being potential pick 6 in the first half. Do. Not. Like.

    • TommyLawlor

He is making rookie decisions. Gotta stop that. Coaches should settle him down.

  • shah8

Defense is playing better. I think we might win this one. Don’t let the idiot rookie throw the ball, though.

    • GermanEagle

Haha, you’ve got a man crush on Foles, haven’t you?! ;)

  • BobSmith77

My 2 cents – Foles looks confused out there and is going 45 while everyone else is at 75. Looked like that a lot of the game last week too especially in the 2nd half.

    • A_T_G

Wow, my feed must be slow. It isn’t even halftime on my computer.

      • BobSmith77

Still doesn’t change the fact that he’s had a pretty bad 1st half.

  • A_T_G

Setting up our screen passes has be an example of the brilliant slow con of our staff. After setting it up for weeks, opponents don’t suspect a thing when our linemen let the rushers past untouched.

Now, blocking in space, on the other hand…

  • A_T_G

Wow, no fear from Damarius. Either that, or no vision, but I’m going with no fear.

  • BobSmith77

Cmon MM go play action here on 1st down and try something deep.

  • http://www.facebook.com/salmonofcapistrano Mike Roman

Grey Cup highlights! I knew I stayed awake for a reason.

    • A_T_G

How does a safety named Pacino not have a job in the NFL. The name is badass enough to start on most teams.

  • TommyLawlor

    New thread is up.
