DET 8, PHI 0 – 2nd Half

I can’t rip anyone too much. This is what happens when you play in these conditions. Guys slip. Players struggle to hold the ball. Even the most basic parts of football become iffy.
LeSean and DeSean struggled early but then adjusted to the conditions. The Eagles moved down close to the end zone, but the drive stalled. I don’t blame Chip for not attempting the FG. The FOX sideline reporter said there was as much as 6 inches of snow on the field. That’s tricky.
The field will be cleared off for the 2nd half. If the snow stops falling, we could have more of a normal setting, but don’t count on anything today. Mother Nature is the X-factor for everything.

its good to know that the only points the Lions have is from excellent field position after the turnover.
I have no idea what Chip Kelly’s adjustments will be, because right now the offense is now functioning well. I like the delays up the middle as the Lions fly up field. I’d like to see some more TE looks.

In response to your observations from the previous thread re: our WR’s not getting open:
I don’t think we’ll have WR’s open at all given that any cut is met with a resultant slide… unless a DB slips and falls.
The key will be positioning – like Calvin Johnson’s long catch was a post so he didn’t have to make an exaggerated cut, and then Stafford could throw comfortably to the inside.
So we need the run-game to work enough so that the single safety creeps up. Of course, today, I’d feel better simply running it.
But that’s it . . . it wasn’t just CJ who was open. Detroit’s had their RBs open, their TEs open.
Eagles have no one open. And it’s man coverage in crappy weather, with bad footing, and the Eagles know where they’re going.

Really? There are better three and outs. That first down consisted of one horrible short pass to Cooper, a terrible decision to scramble, even if it got four yards, and one awesome reach block by kelce to spring McCoy.
do you remember the first quarter? we were in negative yardage until the 4th or 5th series! we didn’t get a single first down until that last drive before the half IIRC.
i’m not saying that was a “good” series, or anything close to it. but when compared to what we had in the first quarter, its better.
Basically, it’s going to be up to the defense to score in this game.
I will be very pleased to see Suh broken down and crippled at age 45, if he makes it that far.
But you’d love to have him on your team.
Personally, not really. He’s undeniably effective, but you don’t have to be a colossal a-hole doing it – that’s his choice.
If that reflects the offensive adjustments made at the half… oof.

If Foles continues to play like this, we have two realistic choices. 1) Only run the ball (not an awful choice). 2) Put in Michael Vick. Because Foles simply is off in this weather. Not saying it’s his fault.

Yeah… I was just mulling in my head whether we could switch to a power run game in the middle of a game or not.
I’ve supported Foles from day one, but this is a game that Vick could excel in on the ground and we could get the option running game going. I say put Vick in, at least for a few plays, and just for today.
Vick in the snow? Ignoring the fact that speed is negated somewhat by the snow, I do NOT want to see how many fumbles he would lose in those conditions.
yea i think Vick has the same problems as mccoy & djax. he needs to be able to cut & juke to be effective as a runner

I think I blame Cooper more than I do Foles. Foles put 3 balls on the money for Cooper. If Cooper was just a little open, he would’ve gotten them all. It’s not Foles’s best game, but he’s not that bad.

For what it’s worth, as Tommy pointed out, this Detroit team has played on the road against divisional rivals Green Bay and Chicago whereas our young and inexperienced team hasn’t had anything super tough in the recent past.

Its impressive, especially in these conditions. The snow negates some of Shadys cutting ability and allow the defense to stack the box. A defense with a huge defensive line and a primarily run stopping LBs in Tulloch and Levy playing against our athletic(small) line.

Not just in this game, but during the entire season, he has made it very clear that he would stick to his way, and he really has. I was almost tearing my hair out earlier this game , but he stayed constant, had faith in his line, and in his RB.

Detroit was 2nd in rush defense according to DVOA. Mathis-Kelce-Herremans just abused Fairly+Suh, proving that they are better than what Kelly is used to inside 🙂
Yeah, last year they held McCoy to 1.6 per carry. Definitely a solid run defense, despite the wide-9.
I know it’s just asking for more blood, but Celek should score. It’s not a one score game.
this was really impressive. I couldn’t turn it on until we were down 0-14, with all that snow, and I just assumed the worst. This is why watching sports can be great.
It would have really sucked if we had scored, then had an injury on special teams or defense before the game ended.
