Some Favorite Prospects

The draft is less than 10 days away. Excited yet?

I know some of you are already tired of the talk, but I love it. For this week’s PE.com column, I wrote about some of my favorite offensive prospects.

Some are Eagles targets, some aren’t.

There are no RBs or QBs. There just isn’t a QB that I’m in love with. Bryce Petty is the guy I’m most intrigued by for the Eagles, but he has his issues. As for RBs…I’ll be honest. I just haven’t studied them enough to say who I love. David Johnson is a guy I enjoy quite a bit and Ameer Abdullah is a player I think highly of, but there isn’t any one player that I just loved watching play after play.

I’ll be writing about my favorite defensive prospects this week.

* * * * *

I can’t say Shaq Thompson is one of my favorite guys, but he intrigues the heck out of me.

Thompson played LB, RB and even some DB for Washington this year. He is a good athlete and an instinctive playmaker. Mike Mayock lists him as a Safety. Thompson wants to be a LB. I’d love to know how Chip Kelly sees him.

He is 6-0, 228. That’s the same size as Landon Collins, the star SS from ‘Bama. They have similar builds, but different games. Collins is a downhill thumper. He loves to punish runners and receivers. Thompson is an athlete. He can hit and be physical, but is more agile, which should make him more effective in coverage.

Maybe Chip Kelly thinks Thompson could be an ILB if he adds 15 or so pounds. He has a slightly bigger frame and more length than Mychal Kendricks, but not by much.

I would really love to find out what the Eagles think. Thompson isn’t a great fit in their system at Safety, but also isn’t an ideal ILB for them. He will likely go in the Top 40 picks so this is a player you have to want to get on the field. He’s not a hybrid player to mix in to specialty packages.

Totally agree.

Randall is overrated to me. Talented player, but has holes in his game. And the guy has tiny hands. Is Chip Kelly really going to covet that guy?

If the Eagles liked him at CB, I’d be more comfortable. I have questions about him as a Safety.

The schedule will be announced tonight. I hope we don’t have to play at Ohio State again. It is impossible to win there.

So, at Atlanta on MNF Week 1, at Detroit on Thanksgiving, versus Washington Week 16, and Giants at home in Week 17.

I agree on Randall. I can see some of his coverage ability but I see him make too many mental errors. The question is: if he was so good at coverage, why didnt he stay at cb?

i have no idea why eagles fans even talk about him in the first two rounds, but I guess its better then hearing about Landon Collins

  9. 9 Christopher Miller said at 7:42 PM on April 21st, 2015:

Slightly off topic but been wondering a while. We heard about several people Chip wanted to take early but Howie talked him into waiting and they were there. I would love to know if the opposite happened where he said someone would slide and didn’t. Could Howie have talked Chip out of moving up for Cooks? Was he poised to pull the trigger on Alonso in the second a couple years ago. Maybe this was where Howie lost his job where he evaluated someone as good but got cute with value. Who knows what could have been. Ten days and I am sure we will get some head scratcher moves, but Chip will get what he wants and we get to see how that plays out.

  10. 10 Greg Richards said at 7:44 PM on April 21st, 2015:

Chip said after the draft that teams were asking too much to move up and he’s been pretty consistent with his statements saying he prefers more picks than giving up a lot to move up.

This is the best thing to happen:

Infrequent Fliers: After travelling 17,530 miles to and from away games during the 2014 regular season, the Eagles will have a much shorter distance to travel in 2015, accumulating just 6,820 miles to opponents’ stadiums, per travelmath.com. Philadelphia will only leave the Eastern Time Zone once during the 2015 season with a trip to Dallas (Week 9).

Speaking of runningbacks, is there a reason why chip hasn’t drafted one? Has it been cause it’s not a need or have they just not liked any? It’ll be interesting to see who he takes if he does draft one, which probably won’t happen, and I hope he doesn’t take one.

  33. 33 wee2424 said at 12:13 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

I think the biggest reason is because every draft so far he already has a bunch of very good if not great backs. Draft one and when would he play much?

Warning: Sorry for the long post. I wrote this as I was looking at the schedule…

    2015 Schedule Thoughts:

As many people point out every year when the schedule comes out, we already knew all the opponents and the Home/Away schedule way before today, so going game by game analyzing if we think that game is a W or L based on opponent is an exercise we could have done awhile ago. To me, what I find interesting about the schedule is where the schedule itself gives the team an advantage or disadvantage relative to the team we are playing. So with that in mind:

Week 1 (Monday night @ Atl) – It’s rough having to wait the extra day for the season to start for the Eagles just from an anticipation stand point, but obviously neither team benefits.

Week 2 (Sunday 4 PM vs. Dal) – Dallas is coming off a Sunday night game, but I never like having a shortened week going up against a division rival. At least we are home for this game.

Week 3 (Sunday 1 PM at NYJ) – Jets are coming off a Monday night, so we have the advantage here on the extra day. Also, it’s nice to have an away game that is so close. Not only will the travel not be an issue for the Eagles, but you can easily imagine a lot of Eagles fans at this game (not that they are in any short supply at any game)

Week 4 (Sunday 1 PM at Was) – Ugh. Another division rival coming off advantageous scheduling. The Redskins play Thursday night in Week 3, so they will have an extra 3 days of rest. On top of that, while this isn’t a far away game, we it is still an away game.

Week 5 (Sunday 1 PM vs. NO) – Both the Eagles and the Saints play Sunday the week before. The Saints play the Sunday night game, but they are at home, so no real scheduling advantage either way.

Week 6 (Monday night vs NYG) – Giants are coming of a Sunday night game, but both teams get the extra day, so neither team gains an advantage here.

Week 7 (Sunday night at Car) – Coming off the Monday night game, we have one less day of rest and we are the away team. Panthers gain the advantage.

Week 8 (Bye) – Personally, I’m a fan of having the bye week right around mid-season. I may have preferred it a few games later into the season, but as long as it isn’t too early in the year, we can regather at midseason and get ready for the rest of the season and hopefully the playoffs.

Week 9 (Sunday Night at Dallas) – Eagles really benefit from their bye week going up against Dallas the following week. First off, we get the full extra week of rest and time to game plan against a division rival, but on top of that, we get the extra week of rest a week before our furthest away game. Meanwhile, Dallas is coming off what likely will be a tough game against Seattle.

Week 10 (Sunday 1 vs Mia) – Both teams coming off Sunday games, so no advantage either way.

Week 11 (Sunday 1 vs TB) – Both teams coming off Sunday games. Eagles on a two game home stand but the Bucs are off a home game before this, so no advantage really.

Week 12 (Thursday 12:30 at Detroit) – Short week for both teams, but we are the away team. We are coming off a two game home stand, bu Thursday games are rough regardless. I have a feeling though the Philadelphia media, who will have to go to Detroit on Thanksgiving, is going to dislike this game more than anyone else.

Week 13 (Sunday 4:25 at NE) – We have the extra 3 days while NE is coming off a Sunday night game @ Denver. Nice advantage for the Eagles.

Week 14 (Sunday 1 vs Bills) – Neither team has an advantage.

Week 15 (Sunday 1 vs Ari) – Arizona is coming off a Thursday night game, so they get an extra 3 days rest.

Week 16 (Saturday 8:25 vs Was) – Shortened week for both teams. This would be the third week of a three game home stand for the Eagles.

Week 17 (Sunday 1 at NYG) – Ending the season against the Giants. We get an extra day to rest before the last game of the season going against a division rival. Nice way for the Eagles to end the year.

Overall: Overall, we got a favorable schedule. We don’t play any team coming off a bye. That’s really nice to see, especially because i think a couple years ago we had something like 3 teams coming off byes. Our bye is also very nicely placed right before the Dallas game. The only major scheduling disadvantage is Arizona getting 3 extra days rest before playing us.

    thanks, mate. Nice work!

  36. 36 Greg Richards said at 10:03 PM on April 21st, 2015:

Seahawks got screwed. They are playing 4 teams coming off their byes including 3 in a row at one point.

  37. 37 Iskar36 said at 10:15 PM on April 21st, 2015:

Wow. That’s rough scheduling. I know there are a ton of factors that go into designing the schedule, but I’d love to know if the schedule makers consider things like travel and coming off byes very seriously. Profits are probably the primary consideration beyond things like making sure the stadium is available (in cases were the stadium is shared or there are other sporting events/conflicts).

  38. 38 Greg Richards said at 10:26 PM on April 21st, 2015:

Everything is factored in. I’d guess that Seattle has had a favorable schedule the past couple of years so it was time for them to suffer.

  45. 45 Anders said at 3:13 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

If we lose Polk, its because Polk refuses to sign his tender and for me that screams cry baby.

  46. 46 GEAGLE said at 7:12 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

lol crybaby… as in, him playing the good soldier for years only to find himself as the 4th RB, behind a soft, nancy boy like Ryan Mathews? take Polk over Ryan all day every day… Ryan fumbles far too much for a veteran back, not to mention he gets hurt every single year, but people want to call Polk always injured? laughable..

  47. 47 Anders said at 7:14 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

How has he been the good soldier? He went undrafted and so far has 57 career carries, on what basis is he allowed to cry about his contract or having to beat out compitition?

For the Draft, my wish list is pretty simple:
    ..
If by some miracle you can get Bud Dupree, take him and run… If not get Shaquille Riddick to develop in the late rounds…raw edge rusher…
    ..
Get me Jesse James to groom to eventually replace Celek
    ,
a G/T, and a G/C preferably the Ducks Jake Fisher and Grasu, but im open to plenty other lineman…
    ..
    a Outside WR or two
    ..
and spend the rest of our picks on defensive Backs

  58. 58 Mitchell said at 3:05 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

Can you give me your definition of range because I struggle with the concept. Is a synonym, sideline to sideline or time to an area? Give me an example of a prospect this year with good range, please.

  59. 59 D3FB said at 3:29 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

How much ground a safety can cover when playing centerfield. It’s a combination of athleticism and reaction time.

Think Earl Thomas. It’s his ability to be an eraser.

The play at 1:28 is an example of range, Hackett is inside the hash when Trickett turns his hips to make the throw, yes the ball hangs up in the air, but Hackett also has to motor down to get it. He would have gotten there anyway.

  74. 74 wee2424 said at 12:45 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

Love and hate this schedule. Love it because it appears to be a pretty damn easy schedule. I say appears because this is the NFL, and teams like the Saints and Falcons can always bounce back. I hate it because I know when we get to the post season the hatters will say it’s due to our easy schedule and we really don’t deserve it. The other reason I hate it is because there is something to be said about going up against good teams. It builds character, heart, and doesn’t give you an over inflated opinion of yourself. It helps keep you hard. Can’t wait for this draft.

  75. 75 RobNE said at 6:45 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

The Pats have not suffered from their easy schedules. Lets all agree that our 3rd SB season we will play all tough teams. For the first, I will take any and all breaks.

  76. 76 wee2424 said at 9:12 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

The Pats aren’t just any team. I’m not saying we are definitely going to suffer. I’ll definitely take this easy schedule over a hard one. However from a competitors standpoint it makes you well prepared for better teams if you play better teams more often. Such as when you enter the playoffs. You may be so used to one type of resistance, then when you hit a harder better type it can mess with you. Tommy has alluded to this a few times in the past as well.

  77. 77 RobNE said at 10:27 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

He has and I’ve taken the opposite stance then too. There is a fine line between wanting harder competition and missing the playoffs at 10-6. I just am not on the bandwagon of wishing for a harder schedule. I don’t mean to repeat the argument every time. I think we both want good competition, but to win the SB. The rest is such a fine line (who knows who will be good this year) and we don’t control any of it anyway.

I know the Pats are an oddball and not a team to try to emulate. But I’ve seen them up close just hang around, hang around, and bam, they get a bye. And you think, what, they weren’t that good this year. Then their first game is a blowout, like they get to play Tebow. Then they have ONE game to win to make the SB. I want me some of that.

  78. 78 wee2424 said at 1:36 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

I didn’t think we were arguing. I would prefer an easier schedule as well. I am happy with this schedule. I am just saying if you are constantly going up against lousy competition then it’s alot easier to get complacent. and have the good competition smack you in the face. Playing good teams prepares you for good teams. It makes you stronger. I like this schedule ALOT, I am just saying one of the negatives about it. As an athlete myself I know that at times when you are just cruising a good team or a few in a row (playoffs) can really take you by surprise. It’s on Chip to keep the edge instilled in the players, good thing we have high character guys. This schedule seems as though we should have a relatively easy time getting to the playoffs compared to other seasons. Of course depending on injuries and other factors. However this is not about getting to the playoffs, it’s about winning a SB. As someone that has played many sports including football the large majority of my life you cannot tell me that constantly playing weaker teams doesn’t have some kind of effect on you. I completely agree with you about this is the NFL, and you never truly know what teams may be good or not. I really think ATL and NO may bounce back to be solid teams once again. Will ARZ move forward or backwards or just stay the same. Either way I just can’t wait for the season. Go Birds!!

    • Philadelphia couldn’t home in Week 1, 3 or 4. Phillies conflicts in Weeks 1 and 4, and a letter from Philadelphia Archbishop Charles J. Chaput to commissioner Roger Goodell (the archbishop spelled it “Rodger”) last July 8 respectfully requested the NFL not play in Philadelphia on the Sunday of Week 3, the day Pope Frances is schedule to hold a mass for an estimated 2 million people on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway outside the Philadelphia Art Museum. In October, Katz wrote the archbishop to say the Eagles would be out of town that weekend … 93 miles up the New Jersey Turnpike to play the Jets on that afternoon, Sept. 27.

“Yes,” Katz said, finally able to relax Tuesday evening in his scheduling den. “The Pope did influence the NFL schedule. My name may be Katz, but I wasn’t taking any chances.”

  98. 98 Greg Richards said at 7:05 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

I understand not scheduling the Eagles when the Pope is scheduled to visit but football and the Eagles shouldn’t let baseball and the Phillies dictate their schedule. 99. 99 Anders said at 7:16 AM on April 22nd, 2015:

If the Eagles draft Marriota which i doubt happens, Im not sure its possible for them to go from #20 to #1 or #2 DURING the Draft… For the Eagles to pull this off, I suspect they would first have to trade up to the 8-13 range, and from there, trade up again during the draft Up to #1 or #2 or wherever you gotta get to in order to secure MM…… Im thinking for it to be possible, the Eagles would have to complete the 1st trade up to the #8-#13 range before the draft even starts… During the draft, typically a pick isnt traded til that pick is on the clock.. well if we trade up to #2, how can we trade up to #8-13 during the draft since the 2nd pick comes before the 10th pick and teams dont announce trades til the pick is on the clock… the 2nd pick is on the clock before the pick in the 8-13 range, so Im thinking in order to do the trade, we would have to make the 1st trade up into the 8-13 range before the draft, I dont see how you can do it once the draft starts……
    ..
or we would have to do the deal straight up with the Titans, trading from 20 to 2, but I have a very hard time believing that…. For starters, moving up that many spots costs a ton as it is, but we will also have to pay for the fact that we are asking the Titans to fall all the way down to #20 which is a lot to ask of a team…. If the titans go from #2 to #12 thats still not horrible, they still will end up with a first round talent and get a ton of compensation in return, so how much do you have to pay to get the titans to pass on a top 5 player, to move all the way to #20 and get stuck having to draft someone with a 2nd round grade?

I dont see how we can realistically get this trade done… Its so much to ask of a team to pass up on picking a top 5 player so that they can move all the way down to 20 and most likely get stuck paying a first round contract to a kid with a 2nd round grade… Thats a TON to ask of the Titans, and they will ask for a TON in return, I dont see how the hell we can possibly pull this off, when the titans will have other lucrative offers from teams that will pay them a ton of value, but not have to trade so far back that you miss out on a top 15 pick… how can we beat the Browns offer that starts with 2 first round picks, the 1st of which is high enough to still come away with a legit round 1 talent.
    ..
THE ONLY WAY, I think we would have a realistic chance at getting Marriota is if the Titans wanted Bradford. The problem is, if they wanted Bradford they would require him to agree to a longterm deal before completing the draft and Bradford isnt going to agree to that, so IMO I think that this Marriotta talk is complete NONSENSE, and that chip and the Eagles have made their peace a while ago about not being able to end up with Marriota.. I dont HATE Marriota, I HATE the thought of giving up what it would take to pull it off. I think its a price that I wouldnt want to pay for Andrew Luck, let alone Marriota….

“TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline reports the Browns are the “front runners” to trade up and acquire Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.
This, of course, assumes the Bucs select Jameis Winston at No. 1 overall. According to Pauline, who is one of the kings of the pre-draft process, the Titans asked for the Browns Nos. 12 and 19 selections in the first round, as well as Cleveland’s second-round pick in order to move up to No. 2 overall. The Browns turned them down. That’s not an out-of-hand asking price from the Titans”.-roto
    ..
I like Tony Pauline, but come on dude, you have no idea who the leader is right now for the Marriota sweepstakes.

D Day in T minus 8 days…. .. will we see a Trade Happen a few days before the draft? Do people think its even possible to get the entire Marriota deal done during the draft, instead of having to do the first half of the trade up to 8-13 a day or two before the draft(maybe the morning of the draft)??
    ..
Its going to cost too much. If we were the only team who really wanted to trade for this kid, maybe we could live with the price, but we are going to have to outbid some bad teams with some serious trade value like the Browns and their 2 first round pick.. Titans will have other extremely lucrative offers and they wont have to trade all the way down to #20.. I dont see how we could possibly pull it off

  114. 114 RobNE said at 12:02 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

  115. 115 76mustang said at 12:21 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

The other big consideration in trading up prior to the draft to the second position is that there’s no guarantee that TB selects Winston at one.

If the cost was Cox, or Kendricks, packaged with high picks, whom else is there worth taking at two at that price?

The way it would likely work is that teams will have placeholder agreements in place prior to the selection – TN will have offers from CLE, WAS, SL, PHI, etc. should MM be available at 2 and they will seek to sweeten the deal while on the clock and decide at that time.

  116. 116 peteike said at 12:28 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

  117. 117 RobNE said at 12:30 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

  121. 121 GEAGLE said at 2:33 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

    ..
unless Bradford agrees to a longterm extension with The chargers or Titans, I dont see how we can pull it off.

Bradford is a very rich man, and he is making 13mil this year, how much will it take to be worth his while and rip up 13mil 1yr deal to sign an Extension? even if you offer him 20mil guarantees, he has made so much money, is an extra 7mil guaranteed enough to get him to sign an extension instead of just taking the 13mil this year and gamble on yourself that you can earn another contract after the season…
    ..
If Bradford isnt signing an Extension to stay in Chip Kellys shotgun spread with Demarco Murray, is he really going to sign an extension to be traded somewhere else?
    ..

who knows whats true…. the one thing I will assume is true is the Browns interest in trading for MM… when they tried to trade for Sam Bradford and couldnt get him, It makes sense for them to turn their attention on MM…but Im hopng the Bucs shut all this down and draft Marriota…….

For what it is worth, the Eagles have an easy projected SOS based on last year’s opponents and what the Las Vegas books expect this year based on pre-draft results.

Also have a limited travel schedule (bottom 5 in miles traveled), don’t play another team coming off a bye (teams coming off a bye have a 56% win percentage since ’08), and no West Coast games.

Also home 3 games in Dec, get a West Coast team in here for a 1 am start (AZ), and have only stretch where they play a lot (3 games in 11 days vs Miami, TB, and @ Detroit). Even 2 of those games are at home.

From a statistical point of view, the Eagles got just about the best schedule they could have possibly hoped.

“do you think Eagles start going for it every time?” that depends on our success-rate in short yardage situations generally. IF we’re better at goal line and 3rd and short i think you’ll see chip get more inventive with conversions.

On paper, Tebow could be great for short yardage and/or goal line situations. In practice, when the Jets tried that two years ago it was awkward and destroyed Sanchez’s confidence, not to mention the rhythm of the offense.

I think that if Tebow makes the team he will be a backup quarterback.

    Re: Marcus “Redshirt” Mariota

Kelly, if memory serves, typically red-shirted kids at Oregon. He certainly did with his best QB prospect in Mariota.

Right now, Kelly has a talented (when healthy!!!) QB in Bradford on a 1-year deal.

    Why’s that matter?

Kelly can go ahead and spend some future high picks and/or players to get Mariota — on the theory that Kelly gets what he wants, and he wants MM.

In the meantime, Mariota spends the next 12 months marinating in the new offense . . .

Then, after Bradford racks up big numbers, Kelly can:

    1. Tag Bradford in 2016.

    2. Let Bradford find a QB-needy team that’ll pay him what he wants, and

    3. Give the Eagles a 1st Rd pick in exchange (maybe more) to recoup assets traded for MM.
    ____________________

    Crazy? Maybe. Maybe not.

First, lots of folks here and elsewhere talk about Kelly operating on a multi-dimensional chess board. Not the usual checker board used by most football people.

This scenario removes all pressure from MM.

It lets Bradford improve his stock while filling the Birds’ QB position. (If Sanchez could look good, except for his congenital INT problems, then Bradford should look even beter; and SB has no congenital INT problems.)

Second, after the 2008 season, when Matt Cassel had posted crazy good numbers for the Pats, Belichick tagged him and then sent him to KC (with LB Mike Vrabel) for a 2nd Rd pick, no 38 overall.

Matt Cassel. For the 38th overall pick. (Or Kolb and Feeley for 2nd Rdrs)

    So the rent-play-tag-and-trade scenario isn’t a fantasy.

What might be the fantasy, however, is Bradford making it through an entire season unscathed.

I don’t think the “victim” should automatically be classified as such as there are cases where there are false accusations, but in this case it appears that Hardy committed the acts he was charged with and the only reason he’s not in jail is because he paid for the problem to go away. 238. 238 GEAGLE said at 4:22 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

he was better off trying to serve his punishment last year… But the fact that he collected 13mil last year for doing nothing, i dont feel bad for his 10 game suspension…they had to punish him after letting him keep all his money last year

  239. 239 peteike said at 4:27 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

oh and crazy is what Hardy did, not the NFL

  240. 240 anon said at 4:31 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

Hardy was clearly in the wrong. I think you should get to play during an investigation. But to be on the exempt list during an investigation, which can take a year and then have to serve a sentence on top of that is wild. Players better be on notice.

  241. 241 peteike said at 4:36 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

ya I know you werent defending him but ya, pretty close to zero tolerance. The tough part is if someone is innocent and suspended waiting for it to play out in the court.

  242. 242 anon said at 4:45 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

especially if they aren’t a pro bowler. it’s pretty much over. I hate defending these guys though i think there are valid reasons to, but at some point personal responsibility has to kick in. Even though i realize that all of this nonsense was precipitated by Goodell’s poor handling of the Ray Rice fiasco I didn’t, at that time, expect that this would be the outcome of that.

    Really well put.

  244. 244 Greg Richards said at 5:15 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

He was still paid while he was on the exempt list. I think a fair argument could be made that rather than a future suspension that he should be fined 10 game checks from the time he was on the exempt list based on his salary last year and then that money should be credited toward the Panthers’ cap going forward. He was on the franchise tag last year so that would hurt him more financially. I don’t know that the CBA allows for retro-active suspensions of that nature though.

Heard on the radio today there’s a guy who writes for the Oregonian that used to cover Chip, says he’s not leaving the draft without Mariota; Chip always gets what he wants, just a question of how much he’ll have to give up to do it.

  265. 265 OregonDucker said at 6:12 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

Steelhead are very difficult to catch. You need to try different baits. Chip learned to fish steelhead while at Oregon, and he was very good at it.

chip removed the only impediment to get what he wants. hopefully he doesn’t want marrioata, i can get behind the team as constructed, though if sammy b gets hurt it’ll be a long season. I like the extend and trade theory ACV and others presented earlier.

Does Chip have the culture and leadership in place to take a flyer on one of his troubled past players?

Free agent TE Colt Lyerla is fully recovered from his knee injury.

Lyerla injured multiple knee ligaments in training camp with the Packers last year. He recently posted a video that shows him running routes and catching passes in an attempt to get back in the NFL. Lyerla’s September arrest for DUI has also been dismissed. Despite elite physical tools, Lyerla’s character concerns make him unlikely to get a second contract. Source: NFL.com

  276. 276 RobNE said at 7:02 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

Wasn’t he undrafted last year? If chip didn’t want him then why now?

  278. 278 Anders said at 7:14 AM on April 23rd, 2015:

I hope for him that some team will take a chance. I never understood why the Pats didnt bring him in.

While he has some troubles, he isnt close to Hernandez garbage. I also hope Kelly would give him a chance, but maybe Lyerla has burned some bridges with Kelly?

  279. 279 laeagle said at 5:34 PM on April 23rd, 2015:

No one is quite close to Hernandez garbage. That’s a pretty unique brand. With that said, Lyerla is pretty crappy himself, compared to most of the rest of the NFL low-lifes.

Comparing anyone to Hernandez doesn’t do much good. He kind of blows up the scale. It’s like Hernandez is to player misbehavior what the RG3 trade was to draft pick compensation.

  280. 280 Greg Richards said at 7:04 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

Greg Jennings to Dolphins. Probably means they don’t go WR in Round 1. Normally I’d say it shouldn’t matter but they’re already missing their 3rd round pick and have a lot of other needs.

  281. 281 GEAGLE said at 8:05 PM on April 22nd, 2015:

  283. 283 BreakinAnklez said at 9:54 AM on April 23rd, 2015:

Eagles having convo’s with the bears the last week or so.. initially i heard it was Barkley talk, but the next report was it wasnt clear if they were looking at one of our players, or if we were looking at one of there’s…
    ..
only Bear player that jumps out at me as someone we might be interested in would be Kyle Long, but they would never trade him to us… what other Bear players could we possibly interested in?
    ..
I guess it could be about Barkley, Boykin or Polk… mathis maybe?

Then again,. we havent heard a single trade rumor linking us trading up to the Bears spot, maybe they are looking at a deal with the bears as the first part of the trade up for his golden boy?
