Eagles vs Colts – PS Opener
Posted: August 16th, 2015 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 1,027 Comments »Excited?
The first preseason game can often be a sloppy affair. Still, I’m ready for some Eagles football. I’m ready to see third and fourth stringers battle for their football lives.
We won’t get any definitive answers today, but we’ll start to get a feel for who can play and who can’t. Every year there are at least a few guys who really struggle in the opener and then look much better the next week, but for the most part you see guys for who they are.
I wrote my preview for PE.com.
Simple goals.
#1 goal – stay healthy
#2 goal – good OL play
#3 goal – have some DBs emerge
It isn’t important that the Eagles win. The preseason is about player evaluation. Sure, it is good to win, but that’s not the focus. Summer football is about individuals and units more than whole teams.
We can also hope for a bit of fun. Does Bryan Braman have a sack dance? How will Raheem Mostert celebrate after his long TD? And so on…
_
Today is a reminder of why I can’t stomach TEBOW and why he can’t be allowed on our Roster.. Been waiting month after month to get to some Eagle football, we are finally going to play our first game of the year in two hours and the ONLY Eagles coverage on ESPN is about tim friggin TEBOW.. I cant take it
..
Stay healthy please!!! the NFL is a joke, making us play at 1pm in August is absurd…
Maybe they can send Clayton Geathers on a safety blitz that Matt Tobin fails to pick up that seperates Tebow’s throwing shoulder.
I’d call that 3 for 3 in my book!
WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I hope they make Earl Wolff play every snap of this preseason game.. Don’t let him Sub out,.. Leave him out there to play in this crazy heat for all 4 quarters, run him into the ground rather then put our starters on the field
exactly which type of skid mark is Earl Wolff?
https://letsdad.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/skid_marks_chart1.gif
This clown sits out all of OTAs after doctors and trainers cleared him..
..
Then 8 days into training camp he sits out of practice
,,
And now he dares sit out the first preseason game? He should be limping around the field, forcing someone to take him off the field
..
I’m embarressed to call this kid an Eagle… SCREW HIS TALENT, GET HIM OUT HERE NOW!!
#4 goal – get rid of Tebow
#5 goal – get rid of Barner
#6 gaol – get rid of Cooper
My number 4 through 20 goals is stay healthy.
That is goal 1a!
Eagles Insider ✔ @EaglesInsider
Andrew Gardner will fittingly start at right guard. Brad Jones and Emmanuel Acho will start at ILB. Mark Sanchez starts at QB for #Eagles
so they basically aren’t playing anyone in this game, smart, too many injuries already.
Hot as hell too
Why is Demarco and Bradford on the field in full Pads, warming up (Murray taking hand offs from SAM?) WTF
..
While Earl wolff nurses his boo boo on the sideline like the bitch he is..
..
Why,does he even bother showing up to Novacare? Sat out all OTAs, already sitting out of Camp Practice, and now the sissy is sitting out of a preseason game? Please get this Clown out of Philly..l he shouldn’t be allowed to call himself an Eagle 1 more day..
Byron Maxwell gave a high 5 to every single Eagle defender as they took the Field… #LEADER…. As for Earl Wolff #PUSSY
Can we dial down the language and anti-Wolff hate? We all know where you stand on this issue.
Being away all last week, I missed a lot of the most recent non-Ertz and non-Bradford injury updates.
What happened with Kendricks? Will Chip mock him for a 4 week “day to day” calf strain again?
Wow might as well cut wolff now
If he is allowed at novacare tomorrow I will be pissed. Get him out of here ASAP
Minor surprise for me is Jones and Acho as the starters at ILB. I figured it would be Goode in there over Acho or Jones.
Did Huff change numbers on his own or did Tebow want number 11? It’s been bothering me because I swore huff wore 11 last year and after literally just looking at the kick return video I confirmed he was 11. It’s stupid, but didn’t know if anyone knew the reason
Huff switched from #11 to #13 after 2014.
So #11 was available to Tebow.
I don’t understand why some commenters treat Earl Wolff’s handling of his knee problems as a personal affront — requiring a string of expletives you’d expect from a 12 year-old in the school yard.
1. The Eagles training staff and team MDs — in Kelly’s regime — completely misdiagnosed Wolff’s knee problem for a good part of two seasons.
2. Wolff had micro-fracture surgery (mini). The success rate for elite athletes who play contact sports that require explosive moves is not particularly good.
Wolff is not a “Pussy.”
He, most likely, has a bad knee that will never heal to the level required for NFL success.
And he’ll be gone.
like kenny phillips, notice that clowney hasn’t gotten anywhere near a football field
Great point(s).
And Brandon Graham’s never been the same. He can move straight ahead.
But, for explosive cuts, no one’s asking him to move laterally on a dime while a WR runs a route.
He had a nice break up today btw!
My understanding is that micro-fracture surgery is many times not successful. So, he could have not healed properly.
Nonetheless, for those of us who have played the game for many years, we are very familiar with the high-potential player who does not have the mental strength to play the game. I felt that Undlin’s comments on Wolff, especially Undlin’s demeanor, conveyed a strong disappointment/distaste for Wolff’s lack of productivity. For me, this was the tell that the coaching staff does not support Wolff.
OD:
I remember your comment from the other day regarding Undlin’s comment. Perceptive.
My only thing is Wolff’s knee is a problem for *him.*
And Kelly’s shown a propensity to short-temper ball players whom his doctors and trainers have cleared. (Except QBs acquired in trades.)
Bottom line. I don’t see why some people need to personalize the injury — as though Wolff is intentionally trying to hurt them.
Weird.
Kelly absolutely hates slackers; whether they are stars or journeymen. I too have seen my share of these guys, and I tend to judge them negatively.
Missed the quotes. Mind repeating?
It is obvious the staff isn’t behind Wolfe.
There are injuries where you’re medically unable to play or practice and injuries where you can still practice but the issue is pain tolerance. It seems to me that Wolff won’t tolerate pain and won’t practice unless he think he has 100% explosiveness. I don’t think the coaching staff appreciates that.
Thanks for articulating that so well AC! Really hate that.
Is this streaming anywhere legally today?
(I know where to find it otherwise, so need to criminally implicate Tommy’s blog.)
I contend, if it’s on the internet, it’s legal.
http://www.gofeed2all.eu/watch/363590/1/watch-indianapolis-colts-vs-philadelphia-eagles.html
Not quite legal there…
No. I think you’re right.
NFL’s power is not quite the same outside the U.S.
[check my edit]
The lawyer has spoken.
I suppose I was just wondering if one of the networks was doing free online streaming for preseason. Looking for the HD, as opposed to this pixelated pirated feed that I’m so used to.
“pixelated pirated feed”
________
excellent alliteration.
Radio feed –
http://tunein.com/radio/SportsRadio-94WIP-941-s116135/
http://ifirstrowus.eu/ – just make sure you run an adblocker and don’t install any programs they tell you you need.
Goals:
#1. Stay Healthy.
#2. Stay Healthy.
#3. Stay Healthy.
Here’s another goal that I don’t think anyone has mentioned: stay healthy.
Healthy is as healthy does. Luck plays a role in player health, but so does good habits. #SportsScience
I’d really like to see Earl Wolff and GEAGLE in a fist fight. We’ll see who the #PUSSY is.
My money is on GEAGLE because most likely he would bring some kind of illegal substance to throw in Wolff’s eyes a la ‘Bloodsport’, and then would repeatedly beat him with a tire iron.
They’re saying on the radio broadcast that Tebow will be ahead of Barkley in the QB rotation.
OregonDucker:
How are you doing?
Thanks for asking AC. I’m in an active monitoring phase which is really the best I could hope for. PSA dropped a little which is giving me hope.
God’s speed. Always thinking about you.
Thanks man.
Awesome…so the NFLN is actually not showing the preseason game. *sigh*
EDIT: Yay! I found it!
We’ll keep you posted on the game here.
I found it. Comcast didn’t have the listings right. I’m going to miss weeks 2 and 3 due to some unavoidable events, so i really didn’t want to miss this week.
Thank you though!
If you can’t find it streaming online, you’re just not trying…
I actually didn’t try.
just kidding
Spadaro said it’s 102 degrees on the field.
Hope they stay hydrated.
I tried accessing igglesblitz on my phone through work’s wifi and it was blocked under porn/sexual content. I didn’t realize Tommy had started using this site to make a little extra money.
It’s all the Megan Fox and chocolate pudding references.
Have you seen our run defense? Football porn.

BREAKING: Byron Maxwell’s sleeves don’t look as terrible as I thought they would.
Soft vanilla coverage, typical of preseason.
Ah yes. “Press Man.”
*plays 10 yards off on 2nd and short*
Baby steps. Can’t expect them to get rid of Fletcher AND learn to press on short yardage situations all in one year can you?
cant run on the eagles
Yeah, I think the radio feed I’m listening to is on a slight delay.
Riley Cooper, punt returner????????
Can’t get any of the important players potentially hurt.
Wait, Riley Cooper is not important?
In comparison to others? Not IMO. Borderline to make team.
Sorry that you didn’t see my high level of sarcasm in that statement..
Tells you what we think about Coop this year having him return punts in a meaningless preseason game when the temperature on the field is 102
This secondary looks to be an improvement!
Way too early to say that.
At least there was no X play in the series.
Nah, I’ve been saying that since Cary left.
Yeah Corners covered well… BG had some solid coverage on one play
they had sproles ad pr
Defense looked good, for being without any of our three (?) starting ILBs. Was that Brandon Graham with a pass break up?
Feels pretty good to have a game on.
man, Burton running wiiiiiide open.
5 yards on his man an shamchez underthrows burton. saw this same movie last year. Stay healthy Sam. please!
i think that was just too slow to come out, but yeah that was bad
sanchez doesn’t look terrible. does’t look that great either though
His accuracy is garbage in this game. That throw to Agholor was horrible. He missed 2 TD.
With how our WRs are getting open you can see why Kelly loves Bradford. Just be accurate and this O could soar.
Sanchez blows.
First game jitters. I think Chip will give him one more series.
Relax
Irony.
Sanchez showed early why he’s a backup.
I think this is the most I’ve paid attention to the punt coverage unit. Replacing Boykin there is going to be tough.
Maybe I’ve just read too much Chip Wagon, but I knew the play coming based off the formation all three times. Preseason it is…
NFL Gamepass has given me the Colts feed. Their announcers are terribad. “Great coverage on sproles” as the defender trails by 2 yards when we only needed 1 for a first down..
Ew….i do feel blessed to have Mayock.
T-Law . . .
You still host the best pub for Eagles football.
BG tested early and looks good.
Had a solid play covering the flat
And shooting in the back to make the tackle on an outside run right after that.
It’s so fun watching run defense,,. We been shutting down run games for almost two seasons now..
You know, if the tied ribbons to those guys before they do that weave thing, they could make lanyards.
Friendship bracelets for everyone. #culture
*facepalm*
Some things never change…
Like the run defense?
Like falling for the hard count. Every time. Do the coaches even notice?
Hopefully Bradford has one. It would be nice if the other team has to worry about that for a change…
I’m trying to be positive
they were killing us last year on that peyton in 2013 and Luck in 2014. I don’t think it’s something we work on, especially going against our offense.
you would think that would be something our offense would deploy constantly. defenses should be expecting us to try to get the play off as quickly as possible. i would imagine a hard count would be very successful in this offense.
This DL has been dominant so far. And thats the 2nd time its been Logan. Awesome!
we dont even need LBs
Soon national media will realize Logan is one of the best NT in the game…
Why do teams bother trying to run against our DL? We shut you down with 3rd string ILBs in the game and a nickel corner at safety
3rd and long……
Bennie Logan needs to get more national pub. Take him out. Give Beau Allen the reps.
darn. just got it.
Sometimes the other guys do good, too.
wasn’t bad coverage just better catch and throw
Matt Hasselbeck still plays?
no. its a hologram
Logan shut down like 5 run plays already
That third down is harder to forgive.
Goode is baD
A sweet line from Glory Road.
Bryan Smith is in
Remember when Eag,Les fans thought they needed to find a bigger NT to replace Logan? How did that work out for ya?
Our front 7 is scary
woah! Bryan Smith in coverage!
*Marcus
Ill be calling him Bryan until he proves hes not the same guy
At least Marcus has filled out. Smith could never get above 235(as a 4-3 DE).
Alright Tove Lo. We’re not Talkin Bodies here. Im talking about some production bro!
Marcus Smith!
Marcus had good pressure.. Look like he was held
Look at Acho, coverage in the flat
Well done
A 32-yard FG?
Nothing but a PAT.
Good series for MS2
Yep.
Hopefully we attempt a few FGs… Wanna see if Parkey is still a sniper
After all the talk, it is good to finally see our scary ILB combo of…Hicks, Goode, and Acho. Wait, what?
They’re actually pretty good considering those guys will never see the field and the 1st string is straigh pro bowl calibur guys
Raheem Mostert as a KR. Has a shot to make team as #4 RB. Tough decisions to make.
ready to see that speed
Annnddd that was dissappointing.
8 yards deep. Smart decision. Hate seeing rookies pushing things and trying to return kicks that deep.
Cheerleaders are in regular season form.
Is it just me or do they seem more “healthy” this year?
Thanks. I have been volunteering as a sleep monitor. I think it is helping.
Shocked to hear Matt Hasselback.
Check the air pressure in that football . . . like a balloon.
If it’s 104 degrees on the field, every football inflated to “maximum” allowed pressure by rule is already illegally inflated.
Colts are cheating.
jesus sanchez could it be thrown any softer?
Put in Kinne!
Im ready for some Tebowmania!
Wow OL picked up that blitz real well
Sanchez takes a page from the Nick Foles book of sliding.
Aka crash landings
man Mathews is niiice!
Mathews looks good
Shamchez finally wit a completion but dude is trying to get dudes killed today. get him out
Pope is such a beast!!!
he kinda bailed out Sanchez on that catch
sanchez almost got jordan killed
All Matthews. Sanchez just threw it up for him to make a play.
Dammmmnnn 81.
C’mon Sanchez. We don’t have 7ft tall wide receivers….yet.
Geez sanchez.. Seattle down!!!
this is typical sanchez bro…
wow
man sanchez….how inaccurate can you be today?
how do you miss that??
Wow that is 2 awful passes that should have been tds
Well, guys are getting open…
Sanchez in midseason form and getting some boos.
So hope Bradford stays healthy.
100% the skill positions look crazy, mathews picking up 8 – 10yds a clip, players wide open all over the field.
look at that perfect ball placement from sanchez
wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
whoa look at that acceleration
Welp, now I’m excited to see more of Agholor.
Hahaha Agholor turned the jets on and took off
Okay…. So the receivers will be fine.
Damn officials, get your act together. You too, Sanchez.
theres that insane quickness of agholor. A mortal would turn and get tackled. Agholor just vanished in a puff of smoke
Cartoonish Road Runner style. Meep-meep.
Yep, good observation.
Agholor looks significantly stronger and tougher than Maclin. I don’t care if they’re the same height and weight.
Umm…wow.
Sort of interesting…Sanchez isn’t playing that well, and that TD throw was so bad. Run D is okay, considering Indy is bad. Pass D isn’t so hot.
Indy is going to get killed vs. anyone that is sound on the run on both sides.
So, with decent QB play, we ran three plays that were touchdowns so far.
Yes, we had our chances.
Sanchez missing high on every throw. If this is any indication of the season and bradford is able to hit those open receivers this offense will go far
That’s Sanchez missing the throws.
Hence the screenname.
Yea i corrected it
what do you guys think? give Sanchez more snaps on offense? i think he needs to get more time to get his shit together…
me too, i’d give him the first half. It’s not like i need to see matt barkely
No. It is the 1st preseason game. Let Football Jesus and Barkley get the snaps.
No. He might get some receivers injured.
that answers the question for me! lol its already Barkley time.
wow didn’t thought he was that explosive
Okay, theory. The coaching staff has told Sanchez to intentionally be off with his ball placement to test the receivers’ ability to adjust to poor passes. Yeah, I’m sure that’s it.
lol i don’t trust Sanchez’s accuracy to throw a bad, yet still catchable pass on a consistent basis. : P
Really, it is the only way we are going to get to run any offensive plays. Otherwise we will have a bunch of single play drives.
They wanted sanchez to be off so that the WRs can get ready for when erratic TEBOW comes in the game,.
..
When he drafted him I always thought his skill set was more inline with Maclin but don’t rem seeing jets like those on maclin
Ryan Mathews Ran well
..
OL picked up a blitz beautifully
..
Pope is a BEAST bailing out Sanchez
..
Agholor caught a bad screen and was GHOST!!! No celebration, No Dance, no big deal, the first of many for the kid
If only he would have turned around and fell back into the endzone
I really hope Bradford won’t get injured this season. Apart from the fact he has to get healthy first…
TEBOWs accuracy is like trying to take a piss with an erection…
Calling Acho’s name a lot
There’s going to be some tough cuts out of that group.
Hope we trade one
acho having a heckuva game
The Colts announcers have really interesting ways of pronouncing names.
nice coverage
EJ Biggers, nice play
didn’t expect to hear his name and good coverage together in this game.
Udelin!
Barkley time
Defense playing very well and discipline. I hope to say that alot this season.
Damn Matty B, might as well turn the game off
one more eagles series and I’m gone.
you gotta wait to see timmy tebow
tardar sauce NO.
thank god shamchez is out though Im afraid its not getting any better with Barfley in there.
Sanchez looked horrible… but I would be less concerned with the game and more concerned with the impact on the season.
New theory: Sanchez played bad to make Barkley better for trades.
From what I saw on offense, a little accuracy from the QB and we can toy with defenses
2 drives. Conclusions don’t mean anything.
As Merrill just said, it is the 1st preseason game.
youre not joking, man. damn. but it is the first ps game.
I’m just talking about this game… We could have made this colts defense look really bad today… For whatever that’s worth
honestly? i’m glad that those ‘big’ plays didn’t go through, though. more reps for guys fighting for jobs. a broken play by the defense doesn’t tell us much about our offense.
True that!
One thing bradford has is accuracy.
Knees not so much maybe but accuracy def.
As long as the other team is always playing its first action of the year, I bet you’re right 😉
woah Barfley! perfect placement!
boom! juggernaut!
Barfley and Barner!
uh-oh, Matty B
Barkley bombing it downfield!
i did not expect to see this from Barkley.
2nd team players, but agree
Miles fuckin Austin!!!
I remember using his middle name when he was a Cowboy.
It was also his forename at times.
Yeah I remembered his middle name being “You”
Barner already in. They’re not risking they’re good RBs.
Moffitt in with 2nd team at RG. Tobin the 2nd team LT.
Barner quick TD, good running.
chip take 81 out
Thinking same thing. Not sure why he had to get shaken up there to come out. Hope we dont see him in again.
yeah lots of receivers.
Yes, please.
Chip has built his stable of one-cut-and-gone runners.
The BEST part of this game? OL and Mathews got a little work in, and they all escaped from this game healthy
Molk opens the hole.
Sounds wrong. Somehow.
Listening to radio feed. Twitter said that Tobing and Burton made the hole.
uh oh. parkey! what was that!
Curious to see if our backüp OL is as dominant as last years preseason
So that’s what the offense is supposed to look like. Hm.
It will get better. That is, 40+, then 50+, then 60+.
Better get those two-point plays ready…
PRos with a good “alligator style” tackle
LB 53 should have made that tackle. thats goode, right? (please hold your puns)
He got trucked
I read about this pun contest, there were ten contestants. Which one won? No pun in ten did.
I thought Goode would push to make the team. Doesn’t look like it.
Going to be hard for him to beat out Brad Jones with his OLB/ILB versatility
ondjio not bad
way to make up for being burned for the catch! Rowe!
some makeup speed there to catch up to Dorsett
Eric Rowe with crappy coverage but an excellent FF.
Death Rowe!!!!
That is one in a Rowe…
Was that poor coverage?
the guy was pretty open. i assume it was rowe’s responsibility…
It was, but in his defense Dorsett looks like he is going to be a force. Either way it’s the result that matters and Rowe ended up winning.
Dorset is the type of WR that naturally gives big CBs problems.
rookies are balling
Look at Eric ROWE forcing the fumble… Corey Undlin and the seahawks cormers really brought the “stripping WRs to our secondary”.. Love seeing it rub off on the rookie
Rowe is the next Peanut Tillman!
Don’t call Rowe Peanut or he will be traded to the Steelers.
Barkley is on point! Like never before. Literally. Never before
Interesting strategy. Let the WR make the catch so you can force the turnover.
well, that sucks.
damn
barkley hits a flyswatter
Sucks. looks like he was making the right read on the receiver at least.
Come on Barkley. Fly Swatters DAMN IT. Barkley was looking good… Need him to jackup that trade value
Not good for him.
Was the pass low or was it just a good job by the DE? Sometimes that’s the offensive linemen’s fault for letting the DL disengage.
DE got his hands up. its like barkley hit one of the training camp flyswatter things.
Tebow time.
Noooooo long way to go,… We gotta showcase Barkley and get that trade value up… TEBOW probably starts second half
I think you and FairOaks are right. Showcase him.
You’d think Barkley would get the rest of the first half right, then Tebow the rest of the game?
i think barkley should get more time.
then again, i thought sanchez would get more time… lol
Sanchez certainly didnt earn that bench time.
Chip said Sanchez was only going to play a drive or two…
..
This game was/is going to be all about Barkley vs, TEBOW showcase
Dammit, until the INT I was going to say I’d like to see Mark Berkley take second team reps next week to send Sanchez a message.
Hasselbeck looking like Sanchez…
yep
Just worse.
Hasslebeck is looking poor
Colt season over if Luck goes down anyway.
He was looking really good early on. Little hiccup there. They decided to start running the ball every play and took him out of a rhythm.
EJ Biggers should be pleased, the Colts announcers just called him Byron Maxwell.
Heh, good coordination HE and BC.
Honestly I think Rowe may be terrible in the slot, the eags should stick to his development as an outside corner he’s to suspect to inside routes
Eh, first week on the job…
Based on one reception? I know he is big, but he had great change of direction numbers at the combine. You might be right, but I wouldn’t want to tell the guy he isn’t allowed to compete for the open job.
If he could hang with Phillip Dorsett, his speed/change of Direction is plenty enough.
..
Can ROWE learn to play Nickel at an NFL level in one month? Tôugh task..
another OLB injured. Ondjio walking in to the locker room.
Moffit missed block and penalty.
Edit: or Kelly.
i’d rather see Mostert & Monangai running hte ball instead of Barner
Id rather see Henry Josey

The only Eagles QB you’ll see slide.
Barkley should teach everyone else how to slide. haha
holy moly agholor
bad drop
Barkley looking sharp
pretty good ST coverage
Come on, Agholor.
I think Mayock is right, he took his eyes off to run.
But he was turning out of bounds. I think he just lost focus. Probably a lot going through his head today.
White boy day on the DL.
Bair + Allen, just don’t even run on us.
Corey “Spiccoli” Undlin?
nice play by MSII there.
Colts’ OL getting upset our DL is kicking their ass.
Nice olay against the run by MS2.
Isn’t an olay when you let the RB run right by?
oil of olay bro!
just don’t run. don’t try it.
Our run defense makes me hope they hand it off every time.
Last year, it was our pass defense that made me hope for that.
lol
Nice, gotta say that would have been a first down last year
more Smith action. with our lack of OLBs on the roster, we need to find a guy with the last name of Wesson to pair with him
agholor drew some flaggage!
It’s GJ Kinne time!
I like how aggressive Barkley is today… Not afraid to take shots
barkley got rid of that one quick. lol
Who missed that block?
Think DENNIS Kelly.. Not positive tho,..
it was off of the right side, so its probably a pretty good guess
He got ran over by MS2 in practice, got called for Holding earlier… If that was him he better get it together
Mostert. impressive run
wow Mostert is just dragging guys
Henry Josey would be scoring TDs on these runs
no doubt. but Mostert isnt looking bad!
At least.
That’s what got him got called up to Canada!
Barner got crushed on that punt return, for all you haters.
Mostert – Cannon Ball – DAT
rough day. guys just cant connect with Burton
Kind of wanted to see a FG attempt
he needed some redemption
boooo barner. shoulda been mostert there.
Not good for Barner.
Play didn’t work, but not for lack of trying from Tobin. He made one hell of a hole.
Still glad they went for it.
Is it common for QBs to miss high in the preseason more often than wide or low? I feel like it’s not just Sanchez that is missing high, so I’m wondering if there’s something about QBs mechanics early in the season while they’re still trying to get their timing.
Usually the reason is first game jitters.
I just meant that it’s probably releasing early since its the first pass rush they’ve seen in months
man play by daheem watkins
Is that Taylor Hart out there with Beau and Bair in our All White DL aka “Snowflake” package?
Bryan Smith getting the superstar treatment! gets the call!
false start on the qb, thought that would have been on MS2. what did hasselbeck do?
got a hometown call
Nothing, they got a break there. Remember last year? I hope we don’t do last year. Defensive offsides was a problem.
Smith looked angry with himself… maybe got lucky there
MSII fell down on the spin move.
yea saw that too. : /
yeah. they make you dizzy
another peanut tillman appearance!
and its Rowe again!
ROWE held him up, Maragos put his helmet on the ball,
That ball was basically loose by the time Maragos hit him
yep. Id credit Rowe with his 2nd FF on that one.
Even better
how did nobody on either team catch that one?
Bye, Barner.
Probably. At least he didn’t fumble.
That was intentional by Maragos. He stutter stepped and waited for a shot on the ball. That is exciting, because it means it is something being taught.
man Barner isnt making anything happen in any facet of the game. Lets see if Mostert can give us a Josey impersonation.
He had a couple of nice punt returns before didn’t he? Unless that was someone else. Plus the TD run. That return sucked though.
youre right. I already forgot about all of that. Hes been that ineffective since some early good stuff.
Time for a new punt returner.
Barkley hung in there for that toss. knew he was going to get hit
tomlinson is going to be on a roster
PS at the very least.
If we cut him, he gets claimed. Washington seriously needs a blocking TE.
Washington needs ANY tight end. They lost their top 2 to IR already.
Lol they need Every TE!! jordan Reed is coming back this week, but he is about as durable as Earl Wolff
Im pulling for him. I thought they were gonna practice squad him and convert to T. If he makes it as a TE thats impressive.
Perhaps if they keep 4.
MSII has a decent bullrush on him, but he gets off balance trying to drive the OL back into the QB, then the OL sheds him.
Agholor is a slippery cat
Don’t worry about the heat guys. God will cool the field when Tebow comes in.
Nelson going to be a problem on those routes, DB went for those knees i was scared
Once he settles down, look out.
Yeah, scared me. He got pretty hard twice in the legs. Looked like it hurt by how he got up.
If Jeff makes the team again I will send something nasty to Chippah’s Maehl box.
Keep him on speed dial in case of injuries, but he shouldn’t make the 53-man roster.
yeah awy too deep at WR
Would you call him, or E-Maehl?
just don’t go postal or anything
Good read by Barkley.
Thats pretty good yardage there. *picked up 3 yards*
He meant by how he had to push to get the three.
i know it was just funny too hear you know?
Nice moves by Agholor
The way he grabs the ball away from his body is awesome. I wonder if he is over-doing it now because of the drop earlier where his arms stayed pretty dang close to his chest.
Agholor looks… strange getting tackled. I don’t know why, but that worries me.
he falls down like a 2×4 board.
To be fair, on that last hit, I think it was Colt Anderson going for the kill shot. Colt Anderson weighs about 140lbs soaking wet.
Is the OL allowed to push the RB like that? Announcers even called it out when Tobin just did it for Mostert.
certainly
I think they are. It has happened at the goal line plenty of times if I’m not mistaken.
Didn’t a new rule go in last year about pushing the pile?
That’s on FG attempts.
The rule has always been you can’t jump on a guy to jump in the air to block an attempt. Remember the Seattle guy was jumping the whole Carolina team last year when he tried it? He didn’t touch anyone though.
That could be, I don’t know though.
AFAIK there’s a rule that says you’re not allowed to push the ballcarrier forwards.. but I’ve only seen it called as a penalty once, basically happens every running play.
that is my understanding as well
I think they actually changed that rule to allow it now.
There’s been a lot of short yardage plays that it has happened. Not sure if it’s one of those rules they don’t enforce, or it’s just not a rule.
Barner wasnt touched!
didn’t he touch out of bounds?
Agholor is going to have some big catch and runs this year.
Barner is so patient. Sometimes too patient. Like just there.
Barner keeps hesitating back there.
hopefully he’s getting work so he can find another team
It’s a fatal weakness.
That sounded like something Darth Vader would say.
Well Agholor already out performed amari Cooper, and all the other first round WRs are an injured mess…
..
I’d like to see Agholor out play Amari each week
Is Huff playing today? haven’t heard his name.
Yeah he started the game. I don’t think he had any passes come his way.
was credited as the target on the Barkley throw that got INT’d I think
Huff was definitely open on that play, so that’s start.
I saw his jersey going onto the field on the first series it looked like. Haven’t seen him since. Maybe he has earned a break today?
Can you imagine how soul crushing it would be to lose a game because a missed extra point? Will happen to a few teams this year.
Brad Jones w/ the suplex
we got some safety dance up in here.
Lol @ the safety dance reference
hey biggers again!
Biggers looks good, he can rotate
I know WAS fans rip him but he can play outside CB and nickel CB, has some experience as a safety, and is a good STs player. I think he makes the team.
You know it’s a good day when Biggers looks good.
People are going to be upset when Biggers makes this team. Not sure how he doesn’t.
textbook from biggers
WOAH BARNER!!!!!
I take back what i said about replacing Barner…
Well, guess Barner has a job…
What were you guys saying about Barner?
Haha perfect way to end the half, ugly return though
just as i was about to type something mocking barner’s awful return he goes and does that
Thought his first couple returns were good — just that third one that sucked. He was hesitating too much on this one I thought but sure turned out well
Haha never catch it inside the 10 yard line. Wow redemption!
How is our ST always scoring? I never seen anything like it
http://prod.static.eagles.clubs.nfl.com//assets/images/imported/PHI/Fipp.jpg
Something about that smile.
“Sure, I can watch your daughter while you run to the store.”
Nope.
“Sure, I’ll teach these guys to run full speed into a wall.”
Yep.
GEagle, It’s a Chip team!
There we go barner..finally chose to show something and showed it in a big way
Barner the burner.
Love me some Fipp eyes!
Wtf… Booooo! Fipp shouldn’t be allowed to wear sunglasses
they need to make sunglasses that make his eyes look even bigger!
Poor guy knew the cameras would be on him and is self conscious.
Maybe he’s like Cyclops from the X-Men
You see that? They score a TD, Fipp puts on sunglasses. They don’t, they get the Fipp stare.
Ok so who do you draft Mathews or NA
Neither. Fantasy football is stupid.
That’s a ridiculous statement, just because you may not like fantasy it is awesome and lots of a fun.
I concede to being ridiculous.
I don’t like it because I only want to concentrate on the Eagles. Sometimes guys are playing against the Eagles that are on your fantasy team. I was one and done.
Exactly. I have to be objective when picking my team but then I feel dirty because I’m rooting for some stinking Cowboy or Redskin to do well.
I don’t play, but you’re in a very small minority there.
Mathews for sure.
I love the Philadelphia news halftime updates. All smiles as the reporter talks about a drowning death and a shooting murder in North Philly. Wow, at least pretend.
Lol I was thinking the same thing, followed by “what type of Fucktard goes swimming in manyunk river
Seriously, I don’t understand these choices people make about rivers and thinking it’s a good idea to go in by yourself.
*body lying in river*
*camera pans to Eagles fans booing the corpse*
That’s about right. Oh man, you guys made me laugh at death. Shame on both of you.
I feel horrible for laughing at this.
I hear Body in River is in the running for that RG spot…
Stiff competition for Folding Chair.
Would probably get called for tripping a lot.
Don’t worry, once the second half starts your feelings about that will be a distant memory.
So what do you think Barkley is worth in a trade?
a hell of a lot more than Shamchez after this game. If he keeps it up through pre-season he might actually deserve to be our #2.
No.
A coke and a bag of chips.
Try for that, but take a Coke zero with a contingency that it could become a regular Coke.
Yeah, but if he keeps doing well it may be a 2-liter and kettle cooked.
This Sunday 1pm preseason game is an Epic tease,, really puts you in the mood for regular season and to think we have to wait like 5 weeks for the next 1pm sunday start is torture
280 yards in 10 minutes of time possession… LOL
Against a real team
Imagine if we started out with better QB play. WOW!
We will destroy your dreams, then eat your soul. Be afraid, very afraid.
Great to see young players like Marcus, Agholor, ROWE and Barkley looking good..
..
In the second half I hope to see Jordan Hicks, Hart and Jaylen Watkins Flash..
I thought Hart had a hand in a few of the run stuffs in the first half.
TTTTTbow!!!
Would this asshole kick one shorter so we can see Mosterts burners on a KR please!?!
Barkley back… Wow they really trying to showcase him
The big Q is though: how much will you get for him in return?
Even up for Mariota?
I’m surprised Barkley is coming out.
The sad part is Tebow will be the headline on ESPN later on.
I didnt know anything about Mostert other than his 40 time. I never had the expectation that hed be falling forward every play. Im loving what Im seeing. And now the catch and run!
mostert. wow.
HUUUGE hit, and the gigantic Tomlinson softly falls down. lol
When you can wait for your 4th read, you can play like Tom Brady everyday of the week.
So do you keep Tomilson, or Mostert?
Mostert. Given how much Chip wants to run the ball, plus back up at KR, he’s probably the better one to keep. Tomlinson may not have as much utility.
I guess it depends on how good he is at the dirtier jobs on ST. Don’t get to see much of that on TV.
think Tomlinson has shown enough to oust Burton?
I’m assuming they keep either a 4th TE or a 4th RB.
yea, i agree. i’m just curious if Tomlinson has shown enough to start a real competition with Burton for the #3 spot
I doubt it. Burton is a lock for the roster no matter what just for ST. It seems the team is pretty high on him for the H back role, though.
No way… He means as a 4th TE
That’s about the 4th completely whiffed tackle by the Colts on a quick out. The first was Agholor’s touchdown.
I thought that was just an overthrow that the corner never expected to be caught. He ran by people downfield who had angles on him.
Yeah, that is true. The corner almost looked like he was going for the pass on Agholor’s TD never thinking it was going to be caught that early. They have whiffed a couple of other times on Agholor and then on Mostert’s big RAC.
I agree with you that for the most part they have been whiffing. Agholor running by people who had angles on him was pretty exciting though.
Let me know if you guys see #74 Bunche on the OL…
MS2 showing nice pass rush moves,,, played the run well, always good in coverage… Promising start
im not seeing him get to the QB against backups breaux… Im not impressed.
I think he looks a bit awkward yet with some of those pass rush moves, but you do see progress from last year.
The pass rush HASNT been particularly effective, but he is starting to use moves, chain moves together, counters… Big improvement from last year,.. Step in the right direction for the kid, but yes, long way to go,,
..
Great to see him set the edge and handle the run well. He wasn’t strong enough to do that last year
Hard to believe the run defense is going to be even better this season.
HE LOOKED AT THE BALL TO SEE WHERE IT WAS AND KNOCKED IT AWAY! WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA!!
Attaboy Jaylen
there you go, GEAGLE – Watkins with a real nice PBU
Nice play by Watkins.
our secondary just doesnt believe in interceptions.
Trying to give the offense a breather.
lol…It does seriously suck for the guys who want to get their shot, or their look by the coaches on offense though.
MS II looks bad.
huh? Hes having a pretty good game
Bad like Michael Jackson.
Which one?
He has been good in coverage and against the run but germaneagle is right. His pass rush looks very slow and weak. He looks really bad at going after the QB. I hope it’s because he is tired.
I thought his speed and quickness would show but it does not at all.
He got pressure few times. One time it looked like he got held. Overall with the coverage and run support it’s a good game, more then most expected out of him at this point.
He looked very good in coverage and against the run. Exceeded expectations there.
However I was very disapointed in his pass rush. I wasn’t expecting him to really have a sack. I just wanted to see pressure. I’ll never expect him to bully an OL but I thought he would show some of his natural talent which is speed and athleticism. You didn’t see that at all in his rush. He overly used the spin move which is his go to and the T would just easily push him away or to the ground. His spin moved lacked any type of speed or quickness.
As the third OLB he is going to be rushing against the ones, not the twos. For the most part against the 2s he was man handled.
what game are you watching?
He is watching Michael Strahan with Kelly Ripa.
Eagles vs Raiders. Super bowl.
Well this is Merica and we’re watching eagles vs colts preseason
alright dudes thats twice this QB took off on you. How about some awareness of the personnel you are facing?
i don’t think thats really something that comes into play in ps games
Right. They play packages, not so much scheming to players.
Lol probably didint spemd too much time talking about the stremgths and weakness of the #3 QB
hey dude. Its Bryan Bennett. Id say Chip knows about him already seeing as how he played at Oregon.
Consistently in preseason, teams and players struggle against misdirection and QB runs. You don’t game plan for specific players in preseason.
Its not pre-season for me. Eagles football has officially begun. I want better results!
Maraogos trying to take out our 3rd string (now starter) Nickel.
biggers could teach watkins how to play that route
Maragos really living up to that 42 on his chest with the hits on his own team.
Josh Robinson against 3rd stringers is not fair. Dude is a bowling ball.
Marcus Smith needs to work on his pass rush, but he can cover.
was that watkins that whiffed on that tackle? yea
He did, but he has been really good in coverage.
REALLY poor tackling. Yuck.
It looks like the D is exhausted out there. It is reportedly 110 degrees on the field.
Wow, that was terrible.
D leagues absolutely exhausted.
Yeah I guess that’s to be expected on a field that’s 100+ degrees.
The fan with the green face upset about 3rd string td from opposing team: Dedicated.
That looked like Allen, DRC, and Babin.
need more upvotes
Cmon Allen was better than that! Other two are getting to much credit. They wouldn’t be anywhere near a RB with the ball.
#73 Brian Mihalik needs warning lights and a reversing alarm.. always getting pushed backwards.
Two big red lights. One on each ass cheek.
They don’t want to risk injuries so they don’t tackle to the ground in the TC practices. So I wouldn’t expect everyone’s tackling form to be up to par yet.
Eh, Andy Reid’s practices were notorious for hard-hitting tackling. And his teams were notorious for awful tackling.
Our tackling overall has been much improved without TC tackling.
its time. get your tebow pretzels
Ugh Jesus Christ…oops
lets see what you can do, Football Jesus
Lol they are making Marcus play all game in 102 Heat,,.. You can tell he haslost some steam, he was way more effective early against the starting and 2nd team Colts…. They figure they make him work, he owes us from the checks he collected last year.
..
Lol that pussy Earl Wolff should get thrown onto the field
Think it’s more that they’re short on depth due to injuries.
yep
Did Wolff steal your girl or something?
No… Just stealing money and Talent… Fucking BITCH!
Dude never been laid in his life, please.
Those are some nice jugs.
So we better get used to this: Tebow coming in to mop up after the starters make the opponent look like a high school team.
thats some speed to take that corner. he had no angle.
first thing tebow does is tell the crowd to shut the f up.
ok, i’m on board with this so far.
longest screen pass ever
I can’t believe I’m watching TEBOW QB the Eagles…. This is like a reoccurring Nightmare for me playing out right before my eyes smh…
whats with these low snaps!?
Who’s at center? Molk still?
61 Vandervelde
OMG that wind up took foreeeevvvrrr
how come Tebow comes in and theres no more room for Mostert?
Lets be honest guys, its mighty clear at this point that Marcus Smith aint gonna be shit. The fact that people are semi-excited about this performance is all the proof we need. He looks slow, weak, tired, and plays like he has NOTHING between his ears. No idea what they thought they saw in him.
LOL smh…
Uh oh he may have to throw a ball longer than 5 yards, look out.
He needs to keep on those
Wow.. A hot Girl in an eagle TEBOW jersey…. Someone shoot me and put me out of my misery
Heeeheeee hooohooooo
2-2 Perfect as you know who.
missile, right read under pressure.
hes been more accurate than Sanchez anyway…
Announcer says media attention drives him crazy, sucks Tebow’s ass after a few throws.
too funny
Tomlinson is soooooo slow
He’s Brent Celek 2.0
I think he might be slower than Celek right now
One thing I am noticing, Tebow is holding that ball up higher rather than down around his belly….that alone is going to shorten the amount of time it takes to get the pass out.
Yep. It looks very…coached. You can tell he has been working on it.
He was working with Tom House in the offseason. House is a former pitching coach (worked w/Nolan Ryan) who is really big on stuff like that. He says that a player is going to throw however they are going to throw, and you can’t change that. What you should change is how they go into that throw.
OMG Tebiw chants at the Linc..l KILL ME!!!
tebow getting brady treatment
I missed the first half. Who stood out?
agholor, rowe, barkley
Sanchez for being terrible.
Barkley doing better than Sanchez? That wasn’t expected.
Tebow is so far too. Sanchez was by far the worst QB today. Maybe the worst player so far.
Starting D looked good.
oh yeah. And the entire DL.
D line is beast.
Graham looked like a starter.
Ryan Mathews ran great, through big holes.
They just showed a guy on the phone in the crowd with a satan goatee. Could be trouble here.
Can we put Matty B back in, wanted more Q. Pratt highlghts
Yes! BUNCHE TIME!!
parkey…dude… dont do this to me.
Tebow drops back, sees Jesus, throws it to him. Turns out it’s Tomlinson but it works.
C’mon Parkey!
Uh-oh, is Parkey going the way of what’s his name?
Apparently Cody Parky was smoking angel dust with Kensignton Hookers Til 6am last night
Damn Henery missing FGs again…oh wait
Boy, Parkey can’t hit anything in Indy. No wonder they got rid of him.
the game is in Philly
Damn…
Parkey looking like a henery regression early on… Hopefully he’s just working out some kinks
He didn’t have any kinks last year.
At all.
Well, we only got to see him from the end of preseason last year.
His ball still goes very straight, just a bit off line. That was wide by inches.
Ks can go into funks. He was great in TC and then a few days ago had a bad stretch where he was wide. That’s continued over today. Henery didn’t have the mental toughness to climb out of the funk. Hope Parkey does.
Looking at the replay, Parkey’s kick went straight, just his aim was slightly wide right. Much easier to adjust than Henery’s kicks always hooking.
this round of DL is getting pushed back like crazy
3rd string. Won’t be on team during regular season.
Mihalik, Kelikiipi (sp?) and cant see the NT
Raciti?
probably!
I thought Tebow was going to play against the kids at halftime to show his stuff.
This Josh Robinson kid is built like Trent Richardson
But plays like an NFL player.
love the way he runs. hes short and round. everythign just deflects off of him. really tough to tackle, especially with his hard running style. Michael Turner like.
Michael Turner . . .
Great comparison.
Robby has a bit more niftiness
Brad Jones has had a nice game
And he is the best ILB to flash in terms of roster building.
he’s a vet playing rookies
True.
Ooh, theyve got MS2 spying Bennett.
Yeah, I noticed that too.
The hulk!!! Mihalik
Has Taylor Hart played today?
haven’t heard his name at all. could be a good thing for a DB, lol
He was with 2nd team. They didn’t play Curry much. He’s a quasi-1st stringer.
Denzel Rice looks good in coverage
Let’s go to commercial so we can come back and run two plays and then go to commercial again.
was that ST penalty on Jaylen Watkins?
edit: guess so, he’s the only 37 on the roster that i could find.
Yea
jump pass! great catch!
Bailey may be better than Cooper.
Not exactly setting the bar high there.
I know, but undrafted rookie, local long shot kid. It’s not bad considering.
That depends on what the meaning of “may” may be.
It’s ridiculous that he is still a starter
They seem to have done a good job in finding UDFAs this year – Denzel Rice, Eric Tomlinson, Raheem Mostert, and Rasheed Bailey all have a shot of making the team. Kelly said that Malcolm Bunch has impressed too.
good read to keep it
woah tebow
oh he was bumped during the release
Bailey may be the next Na Brown (more like Hank Baskett) but as long as he’s not the next Riley Cooper I’m all for giving him the #5 WR slot.
that might have been the ugliest pass i’ve ever seen. have to assume that was from getting hit by his OL
#Tebow
He could’ve kept going to his right instead of stopping.
Throw it away, Tim.
Classic Tebow
Is Barkley celebrating?
And that is why he is a #4 QB.
safe to say 3rd qb spot is barkley’s job to loose
Hell, he is closer to #2 than #4.
yep. maybe he can even win the #2. Closer competition between Tebow and Sanchez for the 3rd spot .
let’s not get ahead of ourselves
Considering Tebow does the running thing, nothing is a safe bet with Chip.
Barkley should have had the whole 3rd quarter.
and half of the 4th
It is hot though. I think he did ok, but deserved at least the rest of the 3rd quarter.
How did that play work?
Seeing someone else in #58 is weird.
Does Bryan Braman automatically get a spot? I know he’s a STs beast. But he contributes almost nothing as an OLB. Maybe keep Acho ahead of him.
Has Tebow gotten laid yet?
After the game, he’ll have his pick.
He’d probably have a couple picks during the game if he wasn’t giving the defense the sack.
insert mom joke here
I will ask her. “Mom, would you or have you had sex with Tebow? “
If she smiles, you will know.
well that didn’t play out like I expected
Better performance, offense or defense?
For the starters? Not enough data for them, too many variables to judge units. But the secondary play has looked encouraging, as well as OL and receivers.
Really more about players.
we gotta be one of the deepest teams
Yeah, expected our practice pace to show up when 2nd and 3rd teams hit the field. But we seem a lot deeper this year.
I’ll hang on for one more Tebow drive, but I think I’ve reached my limit on mediocre football.
I have another window open with boobie pics. This doesn’t happen in the regular season.
Liar.
Not until after the game.
This would be the spot for the mom joke.
Matt Barkley completed 12-of-20 passes for 192 yards and one interception
Interesting note from Spadaro: It’s a two man race for right guard- Gardner vs. Moffit.
running lots of read option w/ tebow but doesn’t look that good
meh…tebow… nice knowing you.
Oooooook can we put in Kinne now?
So this new windup… is he just holding it up by his ears now?
I guess so, until he has to run, then he needs to book his passes a day in advance.
Kevin Graf was hyped as a guy who could make 53-man roster. He’s disappointed.
Cut ’em. I’ve just never seen much from him.
To be fair, some of his snaps came in like softball tosses. But that’s it, he still was terrible there.
thats twice on 3rd downs where he held it and then took a sack. Ive seen enough. Tebowmania. Fun while it lasted.
This isn’t the offense where you hesitate, he’s out of his element. He would’ve been decent against the kids at halftime.
look at Rice making that play. oops not rice
The first drive, Tebow did what he learned. After that, he did what he knows.
That’s….very accurate, I think.
nice play from Reynolds
ed reynolds finally makes a play in the NFL.
Reynolds dropped that same INT last preseason…
Well, Chip does say our backups get the most reps.. I guess that one took a little longer to happen.
Ed Reynolds sighting!!
Wait, what happens when our defender catches the ball? I can’t remember.
nelson qurles on the colts can play for my team
Both Rice and Anthony were both burned on that play. Reynolds saves the day.
Tebow got lucky.
this late flag is kinda bs
At least it’s happening in our favor for once. Let it happen.
The officials want to get ours out of the way in preseason.
Would you rather see the defense or watch Tebow hold the ball some more?
3rd/4th string OL not looking good.
that’s an understatement
yea, not doing Tebow any favors right now
Their not looking good against 3rd/4th D!
How about hands to the face there ref?
graf having to deal with a nasty facemask that wasn’t called
One thing I’ve noticed, watching this awful Colts broadcast, is that every bloody thing is sponsored. Drive of the game. Every sack. On and on. Not seen the same sponsor twice, either.
im watching the eagles broadcast. For once, it actually sounds like a legit broadcast. It has mayock.
So, so jealous right now.
I agree. For once this isn’t terrible preseason announcing. Would actually be good for a regular season game.
The sponsorships are the best part of their broadcast. “Pre-snap penalties… and post-snap penalties will kill you.”
Thanks guy!
But seriously, I only really watch baseball and football and that’s how it is. “Third and long is brought to you by Manayunk Motors: if you want to toss a hail mary like a hot dog down a hallway, swing on by…”
Didn’t realize Chip was responsible for that special teams’ TD. He pointed to the end zone when the returner got free. Great coaching.
WOAH REYNOLDS! Where is this comingfrom?
Bryan Bennett’s lack of experience?
He was always a ball hawk. You just never saw him play much.
Reynolds got another shot at that second INT
uh-oh ed reynolds
And with that,Earl Wolff was never heard from again…
yup
Who is Wolff??
just to temper everyones excitement here. remember that Kurt Coleman once had 3 INT in a game.
/debbie downer
wasn’t that courteousy of Rex Grossman?
i believe it was. sexy rexy. “fuck it, i’m going deep”
This is courtesy of a 3rd or 4th string QB. Still, there may be S rosters spots available.
Im certainly not fooled. Reynolds has never looked even close to good for us yet.
Im afraid some fools gold will help him make the team. Im also afraid we have no better options anyway.
Graf can go
3rd and 20. Tebow is way out of his range.
Prophetic.
I heard Aflac on that throw.
Quack.
dead ducks don’t make any noises!
damn we need matty b back
parkey always comes back with a make after a miss
Which is normally two times a year?! 😉
May as well put GJ Kinne in at qb
Oh ffs. Colts broadcast now with “Defensive Coverage of the Game” sponsored by some insurance company. It’s basically some ads with football in between.
Eagles’ radio broadcast has “Drive of the Game’ ‘Cheerleading Pom Pom Throw of the Game’….They have their share.
My favorite part of having to watch the Colts broadcast is that I now know that there is an official pie of the Indianapolis Colts.
Right? Seriously. WTF.
Now I am a little sad that we don’t have an official pastry. I will even accept toaster strudel.
We have an official hospital, if that’s any help?
i guess it would be Dunkin Donuts?
http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/footer/corporate-partners.html
I guess I can accept that.
Butterscotch Krumpets?
Humble pie?
Bednarik would be PISSED if these pansies wore his number on their helmets.
You picked the wrong time to say that one.
Just repeating what the man thought of today’s players.
Braman refuses to allow this RB to go anywhere
Right after I make a post questioning whether he’ll make the team, he starts flashing.
I know that feeling. 2013 Riley Cooper.
He’s a lock because of STs. Would be nice to have some of those guys be able to contribute some on regular defense but if you have ST studs you keep a couple on the roster. Would be nice if Dorenbos could have a role too, like Reid had with Bartrum as 3rd TE, as that was basically a bonus roster spot.
Braman FF and Suplex. Noice!
mma training
goddamn, Braman.
brahman killing them
That crowd noise for Tebow… make it stop.
Tebow in. This is a blowout.
The most upsetting thing about the Tebow touchdown is that ESPN is going to run that shit over and over and over….
anyone else kind of pissed at that play? we all know Tebow can do that. this drive tells us nothing we didn’t already know.
it tells us he is what we thought he was, see you on 2pt conversions
Yea screw tebow for making the right read on a zone read
man, can’t wait for geagle to complain bout first take tomorrow
Tebow scored and I wasn’t looking. LOL Typical.
Colts broadcast just joked that there will now be discussion about a QB controversy.
Barkley looked good
The sad part is we know Chip’s brain. Kind of? He may want Tebow for those two point plays and stupid crap stuff. It’s not impossible to think he would keep him.
Tebowmania!
save the best for last
Keith Byars threw better passes than Tebow.
Keith Byars is my all time favorite Eagle.
so, after Agholor’s performance today, is there any question that he should take Cooper’s place in the starting lineup?I guess we need Huff to step up to win the other spot otherwise Agholor replaces Huff and Cooper still starts. Thats frustrating.
i think Agholor still needs some more time
We know Chip likes his measurables, and Cooper has that size they like, sadly.
Didinger talk about that. He said it doesn’t matter who starts, it matters who plays the most. Maybe this local kid will win a spot. Is it too much money to just cut Cooper?
Huff is already starting
right but the problem is that any time Agholor gets in with the 1s, its in place of Huff not Cooper. So the point is that Agholor needs to start in place of Cooper not Huff.
Those drops need to stop before I can let Nelson start.
But if Cooper gets run out of a starting spot, he’s making too much money. Cut him.
We passed a lot for a team that was supposed to be really run heavy this season.
we have our top 3 Rbs figured out. We needed to sort out the QB depth chart. Mission accomplished.
Save the RBs
We only used one today right? Sproles was there for a second also, so two. Really fast, in and out.
mathews avg 9ypc for two carries
Preseason.
So 4 forced turnovers, 1 ST TD, all QBs had a TD drive, ed reynolds flashing on teams
uh oh, Chip joking around with Rowe on the sideline. #UncomfortableWithGrownMenOfTheirCulture
rowe is still a young guy. Just a rookie. Watch out in his 3rd year and beyond.
I think that was a typo. It was supposed to be uncomfortable with grown men of his stature.
Tebow’s one of the most awkward NFL quarterbacks I’ve ever seen.
It’s like there is something blocking him from making a complete throw. So stiff.
Former Flyers goalie Roman Cechmanek came to mind. Flopping around doing unconventional stuff is great when it works but when it doesn’t it looks especially brutal.
Good point .
Najee Goode missing a lot of tackles for a guy who was a 2nd stringer last year.
Rusty.
trombone
if he’s still in there, i would expect him to really excel – a veteran, used to be 2nd stringer playing with rookies and 4th stringers…
He is. he’s #53. They’ve been rotating 4 guys in there all game: Acho, Jones, Goode, and Hicks..
Hicks was pretty much invisible. Thought Acho and Jones played pretty well. Didn’t see much out of Goode either.
Not true. Hicks was quite visible on the missed tackle on the Colts TD run.
Yeah, that was brutal. Three guys had a shot and they looked like they were high school freshmen bouncing off an all-pro.
man I wish I got to see my boy Shepherd today.
game over. We won.
Homerism at its finest. Colts booth just said McAfee is the best punter in the NFL because he punts really far, ignoring the fact that this led to a couple of touchbacks and three long returns.
and Barner’s TD
Uh oh, Tim Tebow with 69 yards. He’s going to need to say some Hail Marys tonight…
69?….That’s so un-Christian-like.
ESP gave Tebow a B- for this game. How is he allowed to have a job covering sports?
That really deserves a Jesus Christ! B- ? What in the name of you know who?
If you are grading a on curve made up of other Tebow performances, that might be about right.
That’s true, they’ve seen a lot more shit than we have.
Too many drops from the WRs today.
Defense is gonna be really good.
Nice day.
no matt barkely in the highlights at all
Eh, he was just the warm up act for TEBOW!!!!!!
Bradford needs to stay healthy, we can’t survive with Sanchez. We saw that last year. Barkley may be better
So…has Wolff been cut yet? Man he’s got to be beyond thin ice, fell through and is flailing. Good to see Reynolds stand out from the 3’rd/4th team, he clearly doesn’t belong in that group.
Actually surprising to hear a good Eagles’ broadcast team. They would be good for a regular season game. Better than some of the clowns they have going. Plus remember Ike Reese doing it? Horrible.
I’ve really came around to Mayock, used to not be able to stand him, but after all the draft work he did this spring, i like him!
As we type, he is giving a Tebow more credit than he deserved. Not high praise, but still. This shit has to stop. AHHHHH!!!
He’s been one of the best draft analysts for years.
Chip is lecturing the media on the Parkey panic. lol..He’s right though.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO stupid to be asking questions about a pro bowl kicker after a single game with two dumb misses. If we’re looking at the end of the pre-season and he missed easy kicks every week; worry then.
Chip’s face looks like Coughlin’s winter face. RED.

Chip talking up Ed Reynolds. Not just this game but his camp and offseason program. Potential 3rd or 4th safety.
fools gold. but like I said earlier, thats about as good as anything we have left. Been years since we had any legit depth at safety. Still dont.
Won’t be Wolff. Coming soon to the waived/injured list.

Earl Wolff says his knee is almost as bad as it was last year. Could hardly walk after practice. Hopes to play again this preseason #Eagles
1 retweet
that’s too bad his career is probably over
Really sad that his career seems done over what seemed like a harmless knee sprain
“pain tolerance” – Chip Kelly.
The report is that Wolff had swelling in his knee, that isn’t about pain tolerance, that’s a permanently destroyed knee most likely due to a year too late diagnosis
Reynolds had a decent enough rep coming out of Stanford, struggled from the neck up as a rookie, but worked hard on the p-squad.
You don’t see a chance he could have improved into a decent depth player?
not really. I wasnt a fan of him at Stanford. Aside from that, even looking it comlpetely unbiased, I look at what the eagles ask their safeties to do, and Reynolds doesnt even fit the job description. Ill never understand the pick.
I’d accusing you of holding too closely to you draft eval of him, but I’d get hit by lightning the next time I went outside. I tend to very “stone tablet” in my approach to opinion permanence.
that may be the case, but I still dont see him as a guy who is ever going to cover a WR in the slot like we want our safeties to do. So, why is he here?
ST, depth and to progress as a player. Same as most 5th round picks.
Uhh we don’t always use our safeties to cover slot WRs..that’s why we have a slot CB.
True, but that’s not Billy’s preference. In his ideal world, he stays in base and his safety can double as a 3rd corner. That’s the whole reason why Jenkins and Thurmond, both ex-corners are our starting safeties.
Like that time he had Patrick Chung covering Dez in a must win game in Dallas at the end of the season in 2013?
Why must you torture me this way 😛
no kidding. But they do often. Thats why we dont use our slot CB that much.
you know, it seems people throw out all logic to defend Reynolds. This has been happening since the day we drafted him. Im done on the subject.
Hopefully he plays well enough as a backup as long as he is here. And hopefully sooner than later, they find a guy who is a better fit so he can go somewhere else. Itd be better for us, and for his career too.
I disagree, I think with some hard work he does fit what the Eagles want in their S.
I think he is a very hard worker but just doesnt possess that kind of agility to cover WRs 1 on 1. Will never have that as part of his game.
That is something he can work on. I think he has the physical tools to do so. Most 5th round picks don’t come out with the ability to cover NFL WRs 1v1 immediately. Most rookie DBs regardless if they are a 1st, 2nd or 6th round pick have trouble in coverage initially.
It’s now his second year and he has shown some progression. He just needs to continue with that progression. That’s as much as you can really ask for while being realistic.
He isn’t physically dominating like most DBa, but if he can master his technique he may work out. Undlin is huge for our young secondary.
He missed most of the spring practices as a rookie because of Stanford’s quarter schedule and late graduation. That put him behind from the get go.
Quarters are quite possible the dumbest way to approach a collegiate schedule. Pure trash non NE foolishment.
It’s ok that he was behind. It’s not that he was unable to show anything to the coaching staff last season despite having pure trash in front of him the entire season. Still, he played well today. Hope it continues. Would rather have him on the field than Prosinsky or Maragos.
Why would it be fools gold? First pick was sort of a gimme but he did his job and was in the right spot. Second pick he read the QB and jumped the route. Showed good hands on what was a bullet. Also had a ST tackle which is important in making the team. Showed good speed and acceleration. I’m not saying he is going to start but can be good depth on the 53.
Plus players today:
Barner (kills me to say it)
Reynolds
Minus players today
J. Watkins
Entire O-line not named Peters/Kelce/Johnson.
J Watkins looked good in coverage both in nickle and outside at times. Tackling not so much… but it is a small sample.
2nd team OL looked pretty decent against the colts 2nd string (no idea how good or bad they are however).
Watkins had a defended pass that should have been an INT and got beat badly by Carter on what should have been an easy to defend route.
Thought Watkins was up and down. Wouldn’t call it a minus. Saw some positives, but he made some mistakes too. EJ Biggars (gag me) actually played fairly well. Only O-line I thought was awful was Graff.
I like Biggers as a depth player.
I still have visions of us beating him like a drum. Just watched a replay of the Washington game that we lost the other day. Even in the win, Biggars was brutal.
Paul Dawson, 2 solo tackles and 1 TFL
Jordan Hicks – WHIFF
Not to judge Hicks after one pre-season game, but that was a bad whiff and I have no idea if Dawson missed a ton of tackles for the Bengals.
With the caveat that there isn’t a lot of information available yet on the play of the “starting” guards today; would anybody be surprised if we read a lot of practice reports this week about the Ravens D line getting a lot of pressure up the middle that Bradford only plays minimally next week and the Eagles call 75% runs while Bradford is in?
I have nightmares of Suggs running a stunt behind the DE, smoking Barbre, and killing Bradford.
Well generally teams don’t blitz much – especially with their starters.
Bradford needs to get hit a bit to see how he reacts, if he cannot handle the heat in game 2 pre season he will fair no better in 3 weeks time.
I just HATE playing the Ravens in pre-season because they seem to always put kill shots on people in pre-season. Ike Reece accused them of playing “penitentiary ball” during a pre-season game a few years ago and they body bagged Vick when he was a Falcon in a pre-season game.
That’s part of what always has made them a good defensive team. They have a killer attitude, sometimes you can’t turn that off. All the best D’s in the history of the NFL have that attitude. Whether it was pre season, regular season or pro bowl Dawkins always had that attitude. I remember him killing people in the Pro Bowl.
You can’t expect their depth to not play without that mentality. They are trying to make a 53 man roster spot just like most of the depth in the NFL right now.
I look at it as a test for our team. Will they respond or be bullied?
Exactly.
So I’d prefer to avoid that in fake games.
They aren’t quite what they were in the past so I don’t think you have to worry about it to the extent you may have had to a few years back.
However I like it, let’s see what this team is made of. You don’t want to find out they can’t handle a bully or a dogfight midway through the season or in the playoffs. Let’s learn now, and give the young guys a taste of it so they aren’t overwhelmed when the games do count.
I thought Gardner and Barbre were very solid in limited action. Surrounded by Peter’s, Kelce, and LJ them being solid may be all we need.
We won’t get a real feel for then untill the regular season when they are targeted though. People seemed confused at times as to why our depth at OL looked so good in pre season but struggled in the regular season last year. The reason is because in the pre season they weren’t targeted and in the regular season they were. Nobody is going to target JP, LJ, and Kelce when you have Gardner or Tobin inside last year.
Graff was the only guy I noticed who really played like garbage today. Colts beat him like a drum all game long. Was a bit disturbed by the lack of pressure from the 2nd and 3rd team DL and LB. Overall, nothing to really complain about though. Thought that the Eagles didn’t play all that sharp, but still handily beat the colts. I’ll take that every week.
Who ever got thrown into Tebow’s lap on the one incomplete pass needs to go take some roids.
All Sam Bradford has to do is stay healthy and be competent in this offense. At no point did it feel like Indy had the play figured out or contained. The only thing keeping that from being a blood bath was a few drops and overthrows
Sanchez did a nice job reminding everybody why he’s not an NFL starter.
That miss on a wide open Matthews was brutal.
Watching the Bucs vs Vikings replay and wishing we had Bridgewater. If only we had known then what we know now about Foles
Yeah. And Bridgewater was a guy a lot of us were hoping the Eagles would get after 2012 concluded and before Foles had that record year.
And the Browns traded up to get Johnny Streetball while Bridgewater was on the board.
Eh, for all we know, Chip had no interest in Bridgewater.
They had no interest in QB in round 1 period.
But even if Foles hadn’t played so well, and even if QB had been an obvious hole; there were legit questions about Bridgewater’s ability. Who knows.
That is true, but for better or for worse if Kelly wants a guy; the trigger gets pulled. So I agree with “who knows” on how Kelly may have seen or not seen Bridgewater.
That’s what makes Tebow on the team at all so baffling to me. Whether your a fan of running QB’s or not (and I know you’re not, Media Mike), Tebow’s habit of holding the ball is maddening.
Thought that both Barkley and Tebow played exactly as I expected. Barkley is a low upside guy who understands the game. Reminds me of Ty Detmer a bit. Tebow is an good athlete who has improved his accuracy, but still doesn’t really understand how to play QB in a pass first league.
Tebow literally has zero clue on what to do when his first read isn’t there. That doesn’t mean that he can’t be helpful using a gimmick play that is never ever a repeat of a prior gimmick play, but the team would be screwed if he had to play extended snaps due to injury.
Id take Teddy over MSII in a heartbeat
Me too, and I’m an MSII supporter.
Likewise. MSII was a guy I kept taking as an Eagle in mock drafts………..in the 2nd round. But I very much wanted to get him.
We’ll see if he justifies being taken in the first round over the next two years. I’m optimistic that he does, but he has to keep improving.
He just has to get more physical. If you could take MSII’s athleticism and put Brian Braman’s aggression into the same body, you’d have an all-pro LB. Thought MSII was ok today. Still a bit too finesse.
Love him in coverage however. The ability to play in space vs. (in theory) more athletic TEs and RBs is a valuable skill.
However you don’t take coverage LBs in the first round.
He looked like a potato when rushing the passer. I’m not for or against him in general, but today his pash rushing didn’t look great to me.
He looks like a guy who’s trying to think his way around the guy instead of just whipping him. He’s got to get out of his own head and just go.
We could have taken Bridgewater or Derek Carr. Either would be far better than any of the dregs who started @ qb today.
Barkley looked really good to my eyes. Take that pick on the batted ball out and I don’t know how you give him any bad marks.
He’s capped talent wise. He understands the game, but lacks the gun of a top flight pocket QB or the athleticism of a two-way QB. He makes the most out of his limited talent, but I’m convinced he’ll never be more than a decent back-up. Bennett, despite the picks, has more upside both in arm-talent and athleticism.
If he can be the next A.J Feely for us I would be very pleased.
2 series. Like the first week in spring training for MLB hitters. Who cares really.
When you have Eagles writers / reporters trying to inflate the value of Sanchez as a player it can become quite annoying.
https://twitter.com/ChrisSteuber/status/630562980690808832
Sanchez was atrocious, but unfortunately, that is what we paid for.
Chip made it sound like forget the depth chart, if you play the best in the preseason game they will figure out a way to keep you.. Gave that answer In context of Ed Reynolds and Barner Balling!!
..
Ed did nothing last year, but today he looked like the intercepting Ball Hawk he was as a sophomore.. Happy for the kid
..
Braman also may have earned himself some #2nd team OLB reps maybe fill in for Travis long
..
“Barkley in year 3 of this offense should show growth and wipe the floor with Tebow who just learned the offense 3 months ago”….. So far that held true.. Good for Barkley, he hasn’t been given anything here happy he starting to show some growth.. Let’s see if he can build off if against the Ravens
I haven’t bet on a football game since I was a teenager… But with our backups getting more reps then everyone, and The fact we have better QB depth then most teams, I might have to bet on the Eagles in every preseason game.. Our depth should beat most teams depth in the second half.
most important stat of the day…..no injuries
That was very big.
I haven’t heard how severe, but the one backup OLB left with an injury.
oh yea forgot about him
If you check the first roster cuts, you’ll remember his name!
Two things I did see:
– Multiple shots of the kids playing football at halftime. The NFL has done this now in a couple of preseason games.
Good thing or more a sign by them to try to counter the rampant drop in Peewee football environment?
– The multiple commercials for ‘Eagles Way’ where the Eagles are just trying to ring more $$$ out of their fan base. No mention of even a portion of it going to charity except efforts to promote youth football.
I’d love to buy a few of those bricks, but my ideas would get censored I’m sure.
– Fuck Norman Braman
– Nate Allen is a fucker
– Kelvin Martin scored on an illegal block
– This brick would be better used upside the head of a Giants fan
– Get my Michael Phelps on
If it was something where a meaningful percentage of the dollars would go to a fitting charity (take your pick) but it is just a crass money grab and it was on 3 times today while I was at the gym.
Say what you want about the players and their notable & high-profile incidents off the field but collectively the NFL owners are a bunch of real shits including Lurie.
And this is penny ante as well. Why not just include the bricks as a perk of owning season tickets or as a nice olive branch to all of the people who had their rectums prison raped via PSLs?
That specific thing might not be a charity, but the Eagles are one of the more charitable and socially active organizations out there.
I am actually the sales rep for the paver manafucture providing this pavers. Once the project is paid for all of the proceeds are going to the Eagles youth Partnership.
I have nothing to do with the Eagles selling their engraved pavers, but its is pretty cool. You recieve a replica in a glass display case for you display in addition to the paver onsite at the stadium.
Not worried about Parkey yet, but I have noticed, when he misses, it’s almost always a push to the right. Not sure why it keeps happening, but I’m pretty sure if you watched replays of every Parkey miss as a pro, it would look like the same attempt on repeat 😛
Lets hope they were first game jitters.
I would say focus more than jitters. He hasn’t kicked in a live circumstance in a long time.
Generally Mayock isn’t a terrible announcer but I wish he would dial it down a bit during the broadcast. Too much schtick and over-the-top hyperbole.
Yeah we get it. You bring some worthwhile observations and knowledge. Don’t need to constantly try to prove it.
Is there a team that depends and leans more on their QB than the Colts since the mid-to-late 80s Broncos (Elway) or the early 90s Dolphins (Marino)?
Patriots with Brady?
Maybe ACViking the last few years but they had a pretty good and underrated defense last year.
Good point though about Brady. Maybe the early 00s Colts with Manning too.
Agree . . . Manning – Colts of early 00s.
And that Colts defense, I think, was weaker than any defense Elway had in the 80s.
Somehow, from 1985-89, during the regular season and AFC playoffs, Broncos DC Joe Collier was able to get the “Orange Crush” to deliver decent to good to even excellent stats (1st in Pts/3rd in Yrds – 1989).
But in the SB . . . car wreck
Nobody was stopping the Niners that year. I was so happy to see Elway get his titles at the end of his career.
I meant that, regardless of whom the Broncos played in the SB during the ’80s . . . car wreck defense.
Starting with the 2nd half of the Giants game in ’86. Through the entire Doug Williams-mess-of-a-game in ’87 and then ’89.
Yeah, not well-done by the Broncos coaching staff in those games.
And the f-ing BS Giants only won that title in 86 because Jim McMahon was injured.
Bears ’86 defense under Vince Tobin is a forgotten group — like the Birds of ’91.
Same talent as ’85, but a more sound scheme.
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/1986/opp.htm
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/1985/opp.htm
The 86 Bears D was 5 yards better than the 85 version……..while having a worse team on O to cover for.
But they’re both bullshit compared to the 91 Eagles.
I remember Mecklenberg, Fletcher, and Atwater (Broncos’ better version of Andre Waters) offhand without looking it up and a bunch of other dudes.
Browns fans remember CB Jeremiah Castille
Dennis Smith was the big time safety of those earlier Broncos teams.
Good memory. Atwater was a rookie I think in ’89 and the NFL rookie of the year that year?
Could be. Rulon Jones was another stud on those 80s Broncos Ds.
I just looked it up. Some Derrick Thomas scrub won ROY in 89.
Manning – Colts for probably his entire career. They were a perennial 12+ win team with Manning; when he was out for the year they finish worst in the league. He cost himself his own job by being injured the year Andrew Luck was available as the top pick.
But isn’t RG3&out every bit as good as Luck because Washington would have taken him first overall anyway?
That was my takeaway as well.
Surprised how bad the Colts backups were at tackling today. Looked as bad and inept at times as the defenders in Super Temco when you could run up and down the field repeatedly with Bo Jackson for the entire quarter:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PBvOxicz-0
Amusing note . . . Elway, Marino, and Manning for most of their careers were all disappointments in the playoffs most of their careers. Elway didn’t win til Denver turned into a run first team. Marino never won and Manning, despite the gaudy stats, has one SB to his credit and he beat an extremely mediocre Bears team that season.
Point being, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Colts follow a similar pattern. They’ve got to get better on D if they want to win in the post-season. Just got steamrolled by the Pats last year and I don’t see much improvement on that side of the ball.
– Nobody of significance with a major injury
– More good than bad today even from Marcus Smith II
– Barkley hopefully cementing a place on the roster over Tebow
Friend was at the game today and saw at least a dozen authentic Tebow #11 Eagles jerseys. Supposedly has been the best selling Eagles jersey since they acquired him too.
Still want to get more insight into the mind of the Eagles’ fan who drops at least $99.95 on the Tebow jersey.
http://www.nflshop.com/Philadelphia_Eagles_Jerseys/Mens_Philadelphia_Eagles_Tim_Tebow_Nike_Midnight_Green_Game_Jersey
They also believe that the Earth is only 6000 years old as well.
That is unduly harsh. I just don’t get why people would spend that kind of money on a guy who is making 50% at best to even make the team.
“Unduly harsh” is my milieu.
saw lots of gators fans there too
Fools. They should have been hanging at the strip club with Uncle Luke and all of the fans of The U instead.
As for Marcus Smith II, just look at his arm muscle size and definition vs the other Eagles’ LBs including Goode. It is a really pronounced difference even for a guy who has supposedly added 10 pounds of muscle, there is almost no definition in his upper arm.
Twice today to tried a basic bull rush on the T only to be deflected harmlessly outside or grappled & enveloped.
Few other plays too where he easily suckered and blew lane assignments or outside contain.
Eagles desperately need for him to pick up for some of the slack with Cole gone and I still saw a guy today who did make a few plays but also showed limited awareness & lack of strength or passing rushing technique too.
If he is a meaningful contributor this year and an effective pass rusher by the end of the season, the Eagles coaching staff deserves a lot of credit.
I still love his potential, but he’s the classic example of why you don’t reach on a 2nd round talent in the first round. The guy was done no favors by being placed into a draft status that has higher performance demands.
I’m still optimistic he works his way into a good OLB.
Too early yet to tell but for a guy who is supposed to be notably stronger it certainly did show up in the broadcast or in his play.
You can see some of the raw athletic ability but yeah he still stirkes me as a guy who has a long way to go before being anything than a situational player.
I was happy with how he played the run with the exception of getting totally fooled on the R/O by Bennett. Also thought he flashed in pass coverage. Needs to get nastier and more instinctive when trying to pass rush.
Agreed on the pass rush thing. Decide before the snap and just go with it. There are times he seems to not be sure what pass rushing move he wants to execute especially if it is uncertain that will be a pass.
Wouldn’t mind seeing Braman play vs. the ones and twos in the next few games. Love his violent approach to the game, but not convinced he’s athletic or strong enough to do the job against starters.
To MSIIs credit, he did use 2 spin moves today. The first of which won’t be mistaken for Freeny but was pretty quick, unfortunately he ended up tripping at the end. The second spin was a bit better, he used a speed rush to get the LT going to the outside and then spun back in. Got a little pressure on the qb and it may have been a sack of it wasn’t a quick throw. The only truly negative thing, as mentioned elsewhere was getting fooled by the option, however, I have seen him blow that play up in college. He wasn’t as agressive as he needed to be and I pray he develops more of a nasty streak.
You saw exactly what I saw. Good moments in coverage and against the run but I did not initially like what I saw while rushing the passer.
I will say this, maybe I’m wrong but he did seem to play more then almost anyone else on D and it was well over 100 on the field. On top of that he was rushing the passer, shooting the run, and covering TE’s 20 or so yards downfield. He was asked to do more then anyone else on D and I think he was thoroughly exhausted.
I think you are making to much out of his physical appearance. He naturally is taller and has longer arms so his muscles are not as bunched as say BG or Barwin. Aldon Smith has roughly the same frame so he doesn’t look as strong as he really is. When I saw him on NFL network in regular street clothes I was shocked, he looked more like a big WR. Size isn’t always strength. I do think Smith has enough strength now.
From what I could see the issue seemed to be technique and exhaustion which leads to a lack of technique.
Rushing then passer in a way is like pitching. You have to set the T up.
I think he will look better in regular season because BG will be bull rushing the T alot, and then a fresh Smith will come in with the speed and spin moves.
I was very impressed regarding his coverage and run stopping. I initially was very disappointed in his pass rush untill I really thought about it.
There were times where he did have an effective bull rush and got pressure but it was hard to see because the backfield was crowded and it was on the side of the field opposite of the camera. The times he didn’t look good it was more in the open and you could clearly see. It was one of those things were it was just to easy to see the bad and just physically hard on your eyes to see the good.
Again, complete exhaustion had alot to do with it I believe.
So much attention on the Comcast post-game about Tebow. Going to continue to be the case all preseason too.
So much wasted air time on a non-factor.
I respect Tim for his faith. I respect him for his work ethic. Doesn’t change the fact that he’s a mediocre to poor talent at best who is unlikely to ever start another game at QB. Move on.
Okay, post Preseason Game 1 projected 53-man roster:
QB(3): 7 Bradford|3 Sanchez|2 Barkley
Comments: I don’t particularly like either Barkley or Tebow but I assume they’ll keep 3 QBs and push come to shove I go with the better pure QB and not some guy that can only do well in a specialty package.
RB(3): 29 Murray|24 Mathews|43 Sproles
Comments: Kelly seems to prefer keeping 3 RBs and 4 TEs when constructing a roster. He kept Igwenagu initially in 2013 and Burton last year. Many thought that Josey or Tucker would stick as a 4th RB last preseason as it didn’t happen. With both Barner and Mostert showing the ability to contribute, we should be able to keep one of them on the PS.
WR(6): 17 Agholor|13 Huff|81 Matthews(slot)|14 Cooper|16 Ajirotutu|19 Austin(slot)
Comments: Outside shot that Bailey or one of the other WRs beats out Cooper but regardless of what one thinks of him as a receiver he is a pretty good STs player. Possible also they only go with 5 WRs on the 53-man roster but I doubt it.
TE(4): 87 Celek|86 Ertz|47 Burton|83 Tomlinson
Comments: Again, I think Kelly would like to keep 4 TEs and Tomlinson is coming on. They need to develop a blocking TE behind Celek. I don’t think Tomlinson would go unclaimed if we tried to move him to the PS.
OL(8): 71 Peters|76 Barbre|62 Kelce|66 Gardner|65 Johnson|79 Moffitt|64 Tobin|61 Vandervelde
Comments: There are 4 contenders for the RG position and that tells me that the 3 who don’t win the starting job are the most likely reserves. Even with only 8 OL, they have flexibility as Barbre can play any position except C, Moffitt can play RG or C, Vandervelde is getting tried at RG and has experience at LG and C, and Tobin, while better on the left side, has practiced at all 4 non-center positions. Ideally, you’d have a 9th developmental lineman that strongly pushes for a roster spot but as of now there are other players I like better for our 53 and hope we can get guys like Bunche and Boyko on the PS.
DL(7): 91 Cox|96 Logan|72 Thornton|93 Bair|94 Allen|75 Curry|97 Hart
Comments: Possible they only go with 6 here but Curry could contribute at OLB too so I think they go heavy at this position.
LB(9): 55 Graham|50 Alonso|95 Kendricks|98 Barwin|90 Smith|59 Ryans|52 Jones|56 Braman|58 Hicks
Comments: Acho could push for a 10th spot but hard to keep that many considering needs at other positions.
CB(5): 31 Maxwell|23 Carroll|32 Rowe|38 Biggers|37 Watkins
Comments: Tough call at the 5th spot here. Watkins got the start to day which tells me the coaching staff has hopes for him. While his tackling was rough, he did well in coverage. In the end I think his versatility gives him the edge over Rice.
S(5): 26 Thurmond|27 Jenkins|42 Maragos|33 Prosinski|30 Reynolds
Comments: I think it is close to a lock that Maragos and Prosinski make the team due to special teams prowess. They will be part of the 45-man gameday roster so the 5th S spot is developmental if they decide to keep one. If you suffered an injury at S during a game, Maragos or Prosinski may come in but it is also possible they shift Biggers or Watkins there. Considering Wolff’s injury, Reynolds and Couplin will probably battle it out. They could easily decide to keep only 4 safeties and keep another player at a different position such as Rice at CB.
ST: 46 Dorenbos|1 Parkey|8 Jones
Comments: Hopefully Parkey finds his groove.
Strong work. I don’t 100% agree because I think you need to keep a 9th o-lineman due to the lack of quality of anybody not named Peters, Johnson, and/or Kelce in that group.
I’d cut Bair. Especially because Cox and Logan are going to be playing a ton of snaps.
Also, if Cooper isn’t going to start, why keep him on the roster? He’s overpaid as is, so paying him that contract to ride pine is kind of a waste. I’d love to see him cut.
And thank you for cutting Barner. He played well today, but I don’t want him on the team.
While I wouldn’t mind seeing Cooper cut, it ain’t my money. Don’t care if he’s a starter or backup. Would rather see Huff, Agholor and Matthews get most of the snaps, but sounds like they plan on rotating receivers.
I’d consider keeping Barner if we didn’t already have Sproles and I didn’t think Mostert has the higher upside.
Can’t really argue much.
RB – Would like to see Mostert as the higher upside guy on the PS.
LB – Acho outplayed Hicks by a mile, but given that Hicks is a 3rd rounder, he probably makes it regardless.
CB – No way Watkins doesn’t make the team barring him playing like complete garbage the rest of the offseason. He’s still the favorite to be the new nickel. Biggqars actually had a better game, but I don’t trust him.
I think we got a look at why a lot of folks considered Hicks a 5th rounder.
Yeah, really wasn’t happy with that pick. Also, consider it further proof that the staff is planning on moving ahead without Kendricks.
I’m guessing Hicks is more of a Ryans replacement, which probably won’t happen until 2017. Alonso though may be the Kendricks replacement.
With Alonso, Hicks, and Ryans all signed next season, I’d consider it a miracle for the Eagles to resign Kendricks.
Could be, but Alonso and Hicks are being paid chump change the next 2-3 years and Ryans isn’t too bad a contract. And the cap will be going up. They could pay Kendricks a decent amount or use the money on other positions. It may well depend on how well the group plays this year.
Objectively, I think we should all say Tebow has improved as a thrower. And considering what he is – a backup- he looks like hed be ok considering he has about 2 years of rust to knock off. I mean, really, all that in mind, he pretty decent today.
Biggest flaw was that he held the ball too long. And, the run game went to crap with him in probably having a lot to do with him making the wrong reads on keeping, or handing it off.
Those things can improve with more playing time.
Problem for him is, Barkley may have finally had the lightbulb go on. He looked 10x better than he ever has in an eagles uniform. The timing probably wont work for Tim. Hes not as good right now.
Tebow, although I agree the throwing motion has improved, still takes too long to figure out what’s going on when his first read isn’t there.
Also, a rating of 68 for the game still kind of sucks.
Chip mentioned that on several occasions Eagles WRs ran the wrong routes for Tebow. The OL was very poor also when he was in the game. I’m not a Tebow apologist by any means, but we need to see him in games where his teammates play better.
I got that feeling too, but I wasn’t happy with his approach late in the game either. OL was getting trashed and he was holding the ball and trying to extend plays. Not smart at all.
That is true, think that’ll happen vs. the Ravens?
I somehow doubt our OL depth improves 😛
Making me miss the days of Andy Reid drafting two to three OL every year.
I believe some of those OL and WR will be cut. There is really no excuse for some of the poor play I saw.
My guess is that Chip will start Tebow after Sanchize so that he has a more talented team around him. No excuses after the next couple of games.
Rough on Matt, but probably the only way to get an honest evaluation of both guys.
I’ll be shocked if Tebow looks any better with a higher level of teammate.
You might see Barkley shopped to the Jets or another team next week while his stock is high. I think that would be a mistake to do, but nothing would surprise me during preseason.
Not a Fitzy guy?
He’s always at the alter but never ties the knot. Not a Fitzy guy.
He had that one good run early with the Bills and hasn’t done shit since. Actually thought he might be decent at one point.
I’d be shocked if even the Jets are stupid enough to spend anything on Barkley at this point. Still, we can hope.
he could start on the jets or at least compete, same for texans
Very true. But after watching today, while he can avoid the first pass rusher, I think if he starts scrambling it’s a miracle if it’s not a sack. He doesn’t have the speed to get away from the rushers really and his release is so slow he will rarely have time to even throw it away. Looked like he was trying to pass on the run today but that is when old habits come back, holds the ball low, and takes forever. He was sacked before he could even get into a throwing motion. If he can’t scramble effectively, then you better be a good pocket passer. And while improved, I don’t think he is all that close. The planned runs could be fun, and he looked reasonable on short passes, but I still can’t see him being worth a roster spot.
With two or more OL missing their blocks and WR running the wrong routes, Tebow never had a chance.
I agree that more zone reads or packaged plays would highlight his strengths. But he can’t be a pocket passer when there is no pocket, except one formed by the DL coming to kill him.
he made some poor decisions on zone reads, but agree
Yes, tonight wasn’t a great test for him as a pocket passer. I think you’re right that he will follow Sanchez next game to get a better comparison with Barkley.
Biggest thing Tim has over Matt is a higher upside, and that’s not enough for me. Keep Barkley and Tim can go back to being a commentator.
Does he? I don’t know if you can improve on slow eyes and an inability to make reads. Tebow’s default to his first read being covered is still stupid running around with his eyes not downfield. I can’t have that on an NFL field.
While I tend to agree, it was hard to tell late in today’s game. He simply wasn’t given time to even try to make it to his 2nd read, let alone beyond. As far as upside, his arm is stronger and while you probably don’t care, he’s a much better athlete.
You’re right, “athletic” is just about the least important trait I look for in a QB.
