Ravens-Eagles Practice #1
Posted: August 19th, 2015 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 397 Comments »No fights. No injuries. Just football. That’s the way you want to begin a write-up of a joint practice between the Eagles and the Ravens.
Going up against a possible Hall of Fame player in Steve Smith seemed to bring out the best in Byron Maxwell. Let’s start with Jimmy Bama.
Byron Maxwell also showed today why the Eagles paid him. In 1-on-1’s he did a great job jamming Steve Smith at the line. Smith was able to get free and make a short catch, but he was dominated in the first second or two of the play, which is all you need.
Maxwell can’t press on every single snap because defenses have to mix up coverages, but it is good to know that when he does jam receivers he can win. And Smith might be short, but he’s strong, tough and very physical.
Andrew Kulp from CSN was also impressed.
In perhaps the most anticipated battle on the other side of the ball, Byron Maxwell went up against five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Steve Smith for the Ravens. Smith definitely got his on a few occasions, but overall Maxwell held his own against a player with 915 catches, 13,262 yards and 73 touchdowns through the air for his NFL career. Generally speaking, the fifth-year cornerback blanketed all Baltimore wideouts, especially down the field. Maxwell is exceptional at running stride for stride with receivers, watching their eyes, then turning around to locate the ball himself.
Maxwell isn’t just a big, physical corner. He is smart and skilled as well. I think that overall combination is why the Eagles were willing to pay him so much without him being a guy with a long track record.
It’s one-on-one time, and Smith decides to take out his aggravations on Byron Maxwell. The two get physical before Smith separates and steps in for a short completion. He wins another battle with Maxwell moments later.
Maxwell’s spirits are still high, though. He’s talking it up on the sideline as the drills play out, encouraging each defensive back after they make a play.
And
Maxwell is looking good in team drills. Twice Kamar Aiken tries to beat him on a fly route down the right sideline, and twice he is denied.
Having deep speed and being able to cover downfield is just another key part of Mawell’s arsenal.
* * * * *
The performance of Eric Rowe seemed to get the attention of those covering the practice. From Jimmy Bama.
Eric Rowe had a rough day. In 1-on-1’s he was roasted a few times by the short and shifty Michael Campanaro. That’s a bad matchup for Rowe. While I think Rowe will eventually be effective jamming receivers at the line on the outside, he’s going to struggle against shiftier guys who get free releases in the slot, and that showed on the field today. He was also beaten on a deep back shoulder throw to Steve Smith, as well as a fade pattern to Jeremy Butler. The one redeeming play Rowe made today was when he was beaten by Steve Smith in the end zone, but Rowe didn’t quit on the play and jarred it loose before Smith clearly had full control of the catch.
Rowe got quite an education. Campanaro is a quick, shifty slot receiver. Smith is short, but strong, physical and very experienced. Butler is a young receiver with good size (6-2, 213). Going up against different players at different spots is challenging for anyone, let alone a rookie corner.
Eric Rowe got a firsthand glimpse of Smith as well. On one play inside the red area, Rowe trailed his man to the back of the end zone and wound up breaking up the pass. However, the second-round rookie never got his head around to locate the ball in the air, so while the result was positive, that kind of coverage can often lead to a completion or pass interference penalty. Later, the Utah product was sitting in a deep zone when the ball was thrown to Smith down the sideline. Rowe spun around awkwardly and Smith was able to make the catch uncontested. The rookie was also tagged for a pass interference on a deep attempt to wideout Kamar Aiken. It wasn’t all bad for Rowe, but certainly not his best day, either.
The key to having a day like this is how you bounce-back from it. Curtis Marsh got lit up by Tom Brady a couple of years back and it just seemed to destroy his confidence. It will be interesting to see how Rowe does on Thursday.
Back to the Smith-Rowe thing. The veteran receiver catches a pass in the back of the end zone, but Rowe gets his arm in there at the last second and pops the ball loose.
“The light’s coming on for him,” said Maxwell. “He punched three balls out [today]. I don’t know if y’all realized that. He had three turnovers. He’s a playmaker, man. He’s got a knack for the ball.”
Smith apparently told Rowe, “I saw it in your eyes, you about to [expletive] yourself,” but obviously Rowe did just fine.
“He made a play, I think,” said a disgruntled Smith afterwards when asked about the rookie. “You can write whatever you want. You’re going to find out on Saturday.”
Rowe is flagged for pass interference while defending Aiken. It was a questionable call, and Rowe raises his arms in the air and starts barking at the official. Cory Undlin quickly puts and end to that, shouting at Rowe to knock it off. Another learning moment for the rookie.
Lots of good lessons here. Rowe always kept competing, even when things weren’t going great. And I love that Undlin doesn’t want his DBs going overboard about penalties. Right or wrong, you have to move on and get ready for the next play.
Make sure to go read the reports. Lots of good details I didn’t get into.

MISC
* Andrew Gardner continues to play RG with the starters.
* Walter Thurmond had an INT today. It would be so great if he turned out to be a solid starting FS.
* Cody Parkey had an off day. There is no need to panic, but this isn’t a good trend.

This year’s preseason is polar opposite from last year’s.
At this time last year, we were already freaking out. Nick looked terrible and Patrick Chung and Bradley Fletcher were our CBs.
Tonight?
It feels like I can’t find a weak link on defense, and the offense has a healthy Sam freaking Bradford leading it. Super Bowl?
Super Bowl.
I think the depth at OLB is still unsure. But as the preseason goes, we should have a better picture os te situation.
I’m still betting in Jones at ROLB and Smith at LOLB.
Patrick Chung was our starting CB this time last year?!
Sconces was bad but that’s just mean man.
If Chung was here last year, I’m a Vermicious Knid.
Cary Williams, Patrick Chung, all buried in the same dark recesses of my mind.
I wish I could pile on, except tragically one of those players played decent football last year and is sporting some new hardware (that isn’t wall-mounted light fixtures). T.T
yeah seriously starting safety on a sb winning team isn’t terrible
Super Bowl.
depth is thin in spots, safety and cb so if someone goes down it could hurt but thats the case in a lot of places. Ill start with a playoff win
I think we should all be hyped for our chances this season.
Chip Kelly will be lauded as the greatest coach in Philadelphia Sports if all of these moves payoff with a SB win.
I like our chances as we all knew our offense can score without great QB, but insert a QB on Bradford’s level and you are looking at 40+ points a game.
Now on the other side of the ball we have a stellar D line, and beasts manning the LB’er positions.
Our revamped and upgraded secondary that finally has the depth to make a serious run.
If I were the other teams in the NFC East, I would be worried at the Eagles potential of blowing them out of the stadium on any given game.
Special teams? Fuhgetaboudat, we own special teams play an it’s not even close.
The Superbowl is definitely in our sights.
Go Eagles !!!!!
NOTE FOR OD:
I made a comment on what I think Chip may be thinking concerning Tebow. I would appreciate your thoughts on it. It is on the “Day after thoughts” thread at about the 660 mark (15 or so from end)…
?
Sorry I did not see your earlier comment, thanks for pointing me to it.
While some see Chip as a gimmick oriented, “college” coach he is not. He’s an innovator. Tebow gives him another arrow in his quiver of arrows. For him to play the role you outline, i.e. a red zone and 2 point specialist, Chip would have to have 3 active QBs under normal circumstances – which I cannot believe he would do. However, if his starter is down or is being held out for playoff reasons, then we have a different ball game.
I know Chip believes “Timmy’s” throwing mechanics have improved. Tebow knows the inside and outside zone reads, and can execute. He also has a good long ball for x-plays.
While I have heard and also believe he is leaning toward Timmy, the proof is in his play for the next few preseason games. If his decision-making improves with proper reads and progressions, he can deliver the ball to the right spot, and he does not turn the ball over then……
If Bradford is out, and you have Sanchize starting then Chip may lean on Timmy for a Quarter. Regardless, if Tebow is on the team, then we will probably see him play, one way or the other. Masoli was a terrible passer for the Ducks but Chip found ways to make him successful. Tebow would not be a problem for Chip and in fact I think Chip would love to design plays for him.
I’m not sure Barkley is really impressing either….
Any traction on a Matt Barkley trade?
Right now it appears teams are betting he will be cut and will be available. I know there have been feelers from two teams but no offers.
Probably a good bet to make.
No worries. F Tebow. I don’t anticipate him improving in making the correct reads and throws, so he’ll do a nice job playing his way off of the roster.
And glad you’re looking out for me in your comments.

I quiver in fear at your magnificence. 🙂
Whereas I quiver in fear of having to watch a snap of regular season football with Tebow as the QB.
Forgot to mention Josh innes’ assessment of Jimmy as a “fat loser”. Stupid nonsense but funny to hear nonetheless.
he gets ratings bc people want to hear all the people who call in and bash him.. but ratings are ratings i guess..
Unfortunately too many people believe that, they care more about the ends then the process… They need to listen to Chip and learn to be more process oriented people.
so you like Innes i presume?
Even though I am assuming you are being sarcastic- the thought that anyone would suggest I like Ines is so disturbing I have to respond. My dislike is so great I barely turn on WIP in general anymore.
I mean, Tomny and Jimmy should take his timeslot.
“Tomny and Jimmy should take his timeslot”
That would be great!
I listen sometimes. I find him somewhat amusing, but it’s not a show that is in any way enlightening.
yea i guess its good for laughs.. once football starts i think 97.5 will get better guests etc..
I flip between the stations when I’m driving around, and they both have their share of assclowns.
Boatloads of irony between the content of that comment and your username.
haha the name is all about the image my man.. check the hair on my eagle head.
Maxwell is a coach on the field, and a good one too. A very affirming person, building up Rowe after an up and down day. Teaching the kid how to think like a great CB – remember the good, let go of the bad, build on it all.
#culturebeatsscheme
Putting this here for future use. Just in case…
both broncos kickers are killing it.. if needed..
they are having a heated competition but the one kid, McManus I think couldnt hit the side of a barn last year but has a huge leg. Hes improved but I dont know, they are still in kind of bad shape. One of the young guys will probably win the job but I wouldnt feel too confident about their accuracy. Ill let Parkey work through it, hes earned that
hence the.. if needed…
reposted from end of last thread, b/c if you live in NE this is all anyone talks about:
I was in the car a bit today and listened to more NE sports radio. Here is my new take on DeflateGate. They mention the Supreme Court Garvey case says that absent something like out and out lying, courts should not rule against arbiters. NE radio reads the court/judge as hinting he will overturn. I read this the opposite way.
My theory/guess: The judge wants it to settle obviously. He is hammering on the NFL b/c he thinks it’s unfair what they did, but ultimately would give a ruling UPHOLDING the NFL while taking all kinds of shots at them about their findings. But he isn’t there to rule on the substance, and in the end won’t.
He is hammering on the favorite to settle not the underdog. NE radio is wrong.
There’s my hot take.
I agree with your conclusion. Ultimately I think he would decide that the procedure which was collectively bargained will stand, unless this were something he found particularly egregious. Brady received due process because he got what was called for in the CBA. But that is the only reason this would stand, because the decision itself is not really fair, since it’s based on flimsy evidence.
Video Review: Kenjon Barner nearly broke Arthur Brown’s ankles, who is brother of Bryce Brown (!?), hilarious….Bryce is now once again behind LeSean. Everything has come full circle.
That isn’t what happened at all; Barner sucks. Arthur Brown simply chose to break his tackle outside…………
Everybody on the practice field saying “Ooooohhh” in that video probably disagree with you.
I’ve watched Barner for years at Oregon. He’s an avg running back. I must admit that I’m kinda intrigued with this Mostert guy though…
Barner ran a bit like McCoy Ultra-Lite against the Colts.
If he’s improved, that’s great. Ultra-lite… maybe. That’s not gonna get you much in this league though.
why do reporters, like Jimmy Kempski, write in an article about a subject, then post their tweet saying the exact same thing? Is it to show, “see, I tweeted this”? Flacco wears a black jersey and here’s my tweet telling everyone. If it wasn’t for that tweet, I would have thought he was a liar, but seeing the tweet, I now know he wouldn’t lie.
It drives traffic to the tweet. I imagine his retweets go up when he does that.
Thanks BC…I don’t all the hate — it was question I didn’t understand…
To reach the many people who are not refreshing every single media source every ten minutes. To get page-clicks. To support his family. To try to eke out a living in a low-paid, eye-ball driven niche.
My question is, why has Jimmy become the Igglesblitz whipping boy because of a handful of non-Kool Aid drinking comments that are in no way unreasonable or sensationalistic?
Hear, hear.
I’d be all for Tommy doing the same thing if it somehow put money in his pockets. Obviously, working for an outlet like the Voice is going to do that easier than self-publishing.
master-class D3FB style smack down, bravo
I don’t get it either, He’ has Tommy’s stamp of approval, I’m surprised that doesn’t go further here, they often aren’t in agreement with each other, but that’s the whole value of it. This is a perspective based medium, what’s the point of having all this Eagles coverage if it’s all the same?
again — it’s duplicative data in Jimmy’s(Jimmy is just an example) posts. Has nothing to do with this media vs. Jimmy’s. Egads this crowd is easily distracted…
MWC – Agree completely with your comments. Well said!
Sorry — I don’t your hate. I don’t hate Jimmy. Can you find where I do? I’m asking a simple question. I didn’t understand duplicate posting of the same information. Blind Chow set me straight — unlike your unrelated rant.
If you interpret what I wrote as a hate-filled rant, let me advise you to never become an Eagles beat writer.
I can deal with criticism from anybody. Deal with postings from Eagle fans as a profession? — no thank you.
I’m not saying the Eagles *should* switch to a 4-3, but if they *wanted* to run it as a sub package or hybrid scheme, a front 7 of Graham, Cox, Thornton/Logan, Curry and Kendricks, Ryans, Alonso would still be better than most of the front 7s in the league, and that’s with nobody really playing out of position.
They use a 4 man front in nickle at times.
You’re probably using Logan or Thornton as a two-gap player even in the four-man front, so it would still be sort of a hybrid.
uh-oh Parkey. Where’s there’s smoke. I know most aren’t concerned. There isn’t a need panic. Or is there? Was his last pre-season this muddled with misses? Missing this much can get to a player. I hope he rebounds. It’s not panic it’s a concern.
Reports from Giants camp are that Eli Manning is hurt… no, scratch that, it’s Bad Comedian Eli Manning.
Report from my camp; Eli sucks.
Would you trade Bradford for Eli straight up?
NFW are you kidding?
Lol I wouldn’t either. But Eli is making 19.75M this yr, looking to make more next year, and people are shocked that we wanted to pay Bradford 13M and give up the 2nd for 3rd rd pick.
its diff eli has 2 rings. better pay doesnt mean better qb though
Kam Chancellor is continuing to hold out in Seattle.
Billy Davis and his “mirror mirror the wall, you’re the least creative coach of them all” concept of safety play be damned; I’m curious what it would take to add Chancellor in terms of draft pick and/or player compensation to Seattle.
good pay the man his money. Sooner that team gets broken up a little and has some cap issues the better.
Yeah, they’re kind of blocking us for the time being. If any of their young WRs pan out as good pass catchers; the NFL is f’ed for a while.
Appears that Chancellor’s cap hit ($5.6M) if traded/cut exceeds Seattle’s cap space at the moment.

MSII down and hurt. Needed cart to get off field.
just got carted off….f*ck!…praying for the young buck
Carted off how?
Riding on the back? With a towel over his head?
Or riding up front?
In the back of the cart it seems. BUT he limped to Nova.
OD . . .
You’re our Edward R. Murrow.
Or maybe Walter Winchell.
Either way, you’ve brought so much great info and insight to this blog.
Thanks AC. Love this blog and posters. It’s passionate and informative.
Head down covered by a towel usually means worst case.
Noooooooo.
Doctors think it might be just a tweaked hamstring.
Not sure front or back, but described as having “head down”. Not a good sign.
they say that he was carted off the field favoring his right leg, but once off the field got off and started limping into building
FUCK
braman gets his shot
He’s earned it. Love the Bull’s style of play.
I love Bramans intensity.
He can get to the QB.
I say let him rush every passing down.
this is wee2424’s fault
Hang ’em. Ban him.
very disappointing for the kid.
for any player.
Great. Who was it that yesterday was crowing about sports science. Jinxed us!
GEAGLE, I think
Excuse you?
I caught wee2424 bringing the football gods’ wrath down upon us
https://twitter.com/BobGrotz/status/634402166950727680
At least he’s walking
I’m not sure, you can walk with a torn ligament, whereas if it were a broken bone he couldn’t walk but would be able to come back this season.
TO walked off with a snapped leg.
good point, D Mac in the cardinals game too
I walked off with a broken fibula. Actually, I played a quarter. So, it could be that.
Donovan?
Ask him if he’s ever thrown up during a SB?
On the field.
I live in Arizona, it’s only a matter of time before I run into DMac. Wonder what I should use my one sentence to say.
If you go to AA that raises your chances.
How about, “Are you sure you’re ok to drive?”
How about #5 will always love you? LOL
Forrest Gregg
Tom Brady picking apart Saints defense early in team drills. Threw 5 TDs in a rapid set of situational drills, including two to Gronk against Saints’ injury-riddled secondary. Flashbacks
Brady’s ready for the regular season.
So is Bradford.
Why even risk an injury to your QB?
Gronk = unconverable & indestructible
Uncoverable…yes. Indestructible…ehhh…dude has been broken quite a bit in his career.
How the fuck, yet again, do we get injuries at the same fucking position group. Last year it was ILBs, this year we’re at 2 (or 1.5) OLBs.
How about Cooper gets hurt instead if we have to lose people?????????????/
How about nobody gets hurt?!
I’ll trade “nobody” for Cooper.
I’d trade him for the Rams’ 2016 rd pick, which we already have.
funny how that works. Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher were bullet proof in the second half of last year too.
maybe throw him in a volcano and then the rest of the team will be spared?
We should probably get Timmy to take some of that anointing oil that people have been dumping on his head and rub it on the rest of the players..
This puts a lot of pressure on BG and Connor Barwin to stay healthy, our depth at OLB is starting to look awfully thin.
Also terrible blow for MS2 in an important developmental year. Sounds like he was starting to put together a pass rush arsenal.
IMO a big downside of the 3-4 is the lack of good 3-4 OLBs. They’re kind of rare.
what he’s doing on the back of a cart, then?
pain tolerance issue?
Phil Sheridan tweeted a picture of him in the front seat of said cart… Don’t know where anyone got he was in the back.
NOT A PAIN TOLERANCE ISSUE!
Thanks. Clears that up.
Hope that’s the case… still not good that he’d miss development time.
Whew!!!
If MSII has suffered a hamstring injury, that’s the first one I can remember to an Eagles player in a long time (i.e., post-Reid).
Groin injuries. But not hamstrings.
Well we have Austin now, so get ready for ’em
nice play
Actually, Austin is using a new exercise/stretch technique that he claims eliminates hammy issues. He’s actually helping other WRs with this technique.
Can he share that with the rest of the positions?
Right…
Whew, looks like we might have been jumping the gun on MSII’s injury… Still, reporters could have made it clear that MSII was in the front of the cart :p. Hopefully it’s just a day to day thing.
That bit of automotive geography is critical.
Yeah seriously. Saying he’s being carted off with his head down is totally different than he’s riding in the front of the cart and limped into the novacare.
Exactly why you can rarely form a reliable conclusion about the details of an event based on news reports — especially initial reports.
Sources have agendas.
Reporters have agendas.
They don’t typically intersect with readers’ agendas.
Yep. Reporters want to drive traffic, and if they disingenuously frame something in a more sensationalist fashion than is accurate… well… it gets people talking doesn’t it?
Classic AG indicator
kendricks playing in 7 on 7’s today, apparently flying around looking good in coverage, almost had an interception already
short and injury prone.
(memo to Kelly from Kelly)
Also probably #culture. Or something.
LOL
Vinny! Vinny!
Bleated that Curry to go to OLB when Kelly arrived.
LOL I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone use the word bleat unless it was in a conversation about livestock.
Bravo, AC!
I’m such a pervert – when I saw “bleat” it rhymes with “teat” and that stands for….
sweet!
seems like stripping the ball has been a major focus in training camp, and it seems like all the defenders have gotten better at it..Rowe had 2 in the game, 3 in yesterdays practice. now Curry stripping the ball..
loving it…hopefully we have a squad full of players who turn into peanut tillman once they tackle a player
Yes !!!! I love Curry and hope he gets the nod.
He’s a beast waiting in the wings to wreak havoc.
LOL Ed Kracz said Marcus Smith texted Matt Lombardo about how it was a hammy issue… Very comical image in my head where Smith is more worried about what the interwebs are saying and making sure people are updated before even he knows what went wrong.
It’s all very comical.
Hamstring is better than knee injury.
exactly
At this point . . . save Bradford for opening day.
I think he needs to see meaningless live action, for his nerves if nothing else
I agree, Id at least want to see 4 series
I’d be okay with two, I just want him to get a feel for live action.
When you read Chip Kelly’s quote, the headline seems like a slight exaggeration. Chip Kelly certainly didn’t give a firm yes or no, but it sounded more because Chip didn’t want to give a straight answer rather than him being uncertain.
As for saving Bradford for opening day, I’m not sure if you sincerely think that, but I strongly disagree with that idea. This offense has drastically changed from last year with at least 5 new starters, possibly 6 (RG, LG, RB, likely 2 WRs [Maclin/Cooper to Matthwes/Huff/Agholor], and QB). On top of that, Bradford has seen very limited live game action in the last two years. I think it is very important, both for him and this offense as a whole for Bradford to get some playing time in a preseason game.
And just to argue the standard “it’s a meaningless preseason game” argument, look around the league this year and every year in the past. Almost all QBs, whether they are seasoned vets or young guys, play significant snaps in the preseason. If those snaps are so meaningless, why do so many coaches risk their franchise QBs each and every season?
I-86:
Only speaking tongue in cheek about Bradford and opening day.
For the reasons you wrote, he needs time in an actual game.
I thought you might have been speaking tongue in cheek, hence the “I’m not sure if you sincerely think that.” Still felt the need to respond since I have heard others make that argument.
Glad you did.
Especially in the post-free agency NFL, just about every player — maybe other than RB — needs to get time on the field in actual pre-season games.
Especially at QB.
And especially a QB who’s missed the past 25 regular season games.
I’m with you Iskar, you have to get Bradford used to playing with live bullets flying.
You don’t wait too long and have to wait for him to catch up to game speed.
One or two drives should be enough to start honing him into real game mode.
Brittlesticks will be ready, don’t you worry
I’m team- skip the ravens, but get him in a live situation in week 3, get a feel for where he’s at and what needs to be ironed out before Atlanta.
Carolina’s healthy WRs:
Ted Ginn, Jerricho Cotchery, Corey Brown, Brenton Bersin and Jarrett Boykin.
______________
I think Rasheed Bailey would easily make the Panthers’ final 53. And play.
Kelly’s built depth at WR . . . as T-Law has written.
I hope we don’t lose sheed. As soon as I watched his college film I was sold.
tooo many WRs, too many RBs, too many TEs, though maybe you keep sheed over barner or mostert
sheed over barner. probably mostert over sheed though because he plays ST
I know barner plays ST too but I’m biased
Bailey was running with the 2s today. Give them Cooper instead.
The legendary Cody Parkey went 4-4 on FGs. That should calm everyone’s nervous who were worried yesterday.
How did he do on extra points?
8 for 8 from what I read.
7/7 Today
things sounding good for bailey, he can catch
ya with the 2s I just saw, moving up
and the hits just keep on comin’
Have you looked around the league at the injuries that happen every day?
If all we deal with are hamstring injuries the rest of the summer, consider ourselves lucky
biggers w/ a pick six, i think he’ll rotate w/ the ones
nice depth if anything, they need it
it was on schaub not flacco so doesn’t mean much
agree, wonder if Suggs has something to say about it
andrews w/ the ones again, i guess that’s over. Hard to think that’s an improvement over kelce, but he’s cheaper
How do you mean? Herremans maybe? Aging but cheaper. At least he’s one of the guys that is disposable, shouldn’t be a big drop off to Tobin or Moffitt
yeah maybe moffit will get better, i get the idea that andrews is just a guy, no one has raved about him being anything more than “steady”
I like Gardner… I thought be would beat Tobin for RG since the beggining of OTAs when Everypne else was bust over rating Tobin…
..
Gardner is solid, that 6 games of experience he got playing next to Lane last year was valuable..
..
There are plenty of Lineman today on benches all around the league, that are capable starters yet but we don’t know it yet because they haven’t had the opportunity…. See,Evan Mathis….
..
Bet you Gardner makes the most of this opportunity and proves to be a perfectly capable starter
I like Gardener as well. He’s a big body and that’s all you really need there as on either side of him you have BEASTS to help cover any mistakes he might make.
He isn’t nearly as bad as some people think.
If Chip slots him in to start, then you have to think he will be good enough.
My league has our draft today and I have the 1st overall pick. Who do you guys recommend I draft? I was thinking lacy, bell, or maybe even Antonio brown. Then round 2 I want to get CJ Anderson. Thoughts and advice?
Bell is a slam dunk if you have anyone respectable to replace him for the first few weeks
bell is great, AP, Lynch. picking first sucks, but i’d go RB, RB, WR, there’s a ton of good rookies that might be available w/ your 2nd/3rd picks
agree, go with Bell. Assuming like every other draft you have to get the top RBs off the board first
PPR?
CJ won’t be there in round 2
He might be in some noob drafts 🙂
I’d go with A.P
My keeper fantasy draft is coming up. 12 man 4 keepers going into draft. Mine are: Antonio Brown, jeremy hill, cj anderson and alfred morris. I’m thinking of going Qb or wr in the first rd. Hoping to end up with tannehill and bradford as my qb’s. And getting agholor at some point
Any suggestions?
ALL DAY is the only logical choice at #1.
He’s chomping at the bit to get back to running over defenders.
Better hope you don’t look like his kid cause he’s going to put it on you even harder. LOL.
you could have any Eagle you want.
The last few years I’ve been going WR heavy in the top rounds and then loading up on multiple RBs in rounds 3-6. Going for quantity at RB since there’s so many injuries and fluctuations in year to year performance. Gotta have good RB play to win and there’s so few good ones but RBs seem to have little consistency year to year minus the very few top backs. All of which are getting pretty old this year or have TD vultures on their teams. I’ve been burned taking a RB #1 to many times. Drafting Lacy, Peterson, Charles, Lynch #1 will be a strong move. But I say doing the less likely thing and taking Antonio Brown #1 is the better move. I drafted 4th overall I’m a 10 person league and ended up with Antonio Brown, Calvin Johnson, Jeremy Hill, Lamar Miller and Latavius Murray as my top 5 picks. I like that a lot better than something like Peterson, Demarco, in the first two rounds and then being stuck w Andre Johnson, Brandon Marshall and Jeremy Maclin at WR. I always wait till real late to get a QB since after Rodgers/Luck their all basically the same point outputs into the late rounds. I’ve won 3 out of the last 4 years w a similar strategy. Good luck!
Do some mock draft simulations at draftwizard.fantasypros.com to run out some scenarios and see what you like the best.
Don’t mess with Huff Mr. Hill, he’ll take you out!
Josh Huff, the quiet rage version of Steve Smith?
Huff’s had a tough family life and even tougher street life. You don’t mess with Huff.
hopefully he’s taking notes from SS
Huff left to go celebrate SS wife’s bday
Yeah, he brought a BIG present.
attitude… right? o_O
Huff’s got attitude but can back it up with strong play.
I’m a huge Oregon fan as well. Always have been. What did you think of Huff coming out? I always thought he was good at RAC and a great blocker. Nothing special though.
Initially I was against his coming on board. Mainly, because he has dropped passes due to poor concentration when a TD was within grasp. I saw some of this last year but I think he has more teammates to help him improve.
Gotta go, wife wants to MTB at Waldo Lake. Back in the evening.
Yeah… drops. But hey… I’ve seen guys get over “the drops” before and have great careers.
Great insight!! Was there something specific that kept Kelly from drafting and bringing D’Anthony to Philly? Seems like he could have had him if he wanted to, but I could be wrong. He was a beast in college. Hasn’t made too much noise yet, but seems to have great skills.
Height requirement probably
That very well could be it. But what about Sproles? I know he’s like a small brick, but Barner is listed @ 5ft9 185 & Thomas is listed @ 5ft10 175. Just wondering though. I really wanted him after watching highlights.
Chip will make exceptions but if you keep making them, the exception becomes the norm.
Darren Sproles was better. Chip needed to address the other RB situation which he did this year. DAT was unproven in the NFL and Chip saw Sproles as a sure thing.
Wife wants to MTB? Hmm…
Make The Babies? Congratulations if that keeps you busy until evening.
LOL………but I think he meant Mash the balls..OUCH !!!
Huff is a humble player who is very coach-able and he fits into what Chip wants.
He checks all the boxes as Chip would say.
I like his RAC ability as he is strong and runs with a slashing style which is conducive to breaking tackles.
If he can get past the mental part of the game, I feel Huff is going to be a great player.
The kid’s a volcano. Chip has helped him considerably in focusing his rage. Really, the kid will hurt you if you mess with him, he’s not playing around. He’s the real deal.
Alejandro Villanueva is now 330lbs playing OT for the Steelers….. he packed on close to 90lbs on his frame…. that’s insane.
Its called the Lane Johnson diet.
Eagles confirmed it’s hamstring injury for Marcus Smith
How serious?
No word yet
MRI scheduled tomorrow. Guessing partial tear.
Marcus, we hardly knew ya…
It’s gonna go someting like this:
Limited communication from Eagles (“we’ll see how he does here…”), followed by frustration from all sides that the inury is lingering, followed by poor play throughout the season (which may or may not have happened in any case), followed by claims that “Marcus was never right in 2015… we’ve never seen him healthy and at his best,” followed by more mediocre play, followed by claims that he is a bust, it’s all Howie’s fault, etc, etc.
That’s my rather optimistic take on the situation.
The only thing good and remotely lasting thing that can come from training camp is a lack of injury!!
That was too dark and too real
don’t forget how great he looks when he reports to camp next year. Best shape ever, etc.
Chip will come to the press conference and say, “Well Marcus has got a leg” We have to wait until after he is examined.
That’s about all your going to get outta Chip.

Ravens first time offense has struggled to consistently move ball past two days. Eagles not having same problem.
Quick synopsis from ravens beat writer
After reading your post I went to his twitter page. He really tries to call it as he sees it, and I thought did a good job calling out the nice plays for both teams.
Steve Smith is another in a long line of diva receivers that are very talented and motivated, and that I don’t want anywhere near my team or locker room.
its a tough call with smith, I hear ya though, but he does seem like a hard worker that just plays hard.
he might be a bit of a distraction or a big motivator too. you never know.
Didn’t we cut a WR named DJax for that very same reason?
Steve Smith is a married, football Junkie… No partying all night, no rap label distractions on the side… Chip talked about steve smith today, how much he respects his game, how he competes…. I struggle with whether or not Steve Smith could play for chip or not (in his prime).
Yea I hated how he complained about having a joint practice. Pretty unprofessional.
Eagles are apparently now unsure if they want to have Sam start against the Ravens? I say don’t let him go. The Ravens have a ferocious pass rush. No point risking it. I do think it is imperative to play that 3rd game for the “dress rehearsal”. Get a bunch of stuff on film to work on for the final 2 weeks before Atlanta.
Hopefully they hold him out. I want his ADP falling 🙂
Where did you get that from? I heard Sam’s playing, no word yet on Demarco. But Demarco says all this talj means nothing, he is fully healthy and would be ready to go if the season started tomorrow..
..
I’d like to see SAM Play… I want him to face a live pass rush at least twice before we throw him into a regular season game..
well you won’t like the source, I respect it though, Kempski
“”We have today’s training and tomorrow’s training, and then we’ll sit down as a staff tomorrow afternoon and outline who’s playing what, and what’s going on in Saturday night’s game,” said Kelly.”
Which is a slightly different tune from last week.
Ok thanks
Well Kelly basically said he is playing unless he has an issue some time before the game… but refused to guarantee he will play – which seems wise and fair enough honestly.
I dunno, seems redundant because that is literally every football player in the league. Simple enough to confirm a plan. Every body knows an act of god can shelve a plan.
True, but Sam can slip on a bananna peel on his way to the fridge.
Possible but not probable.
I am sure Chip knows Sam needs the work and my money is on Sam getting a minimal of at least one drive.
Like 6 days ago Kempski was running his mouth about how Bradford ISNT healthy… Yesterday he praised how well he looked….. I’ll get my Bradford news elsewhere, but to each his own…
I’m still against him playing the ravens, that’s a pass rush that shut the Patriots down completely. It took some, if I may borrow a phrase from Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, jiggery pokery to beat it.
You might get Sam out of the game with no sacks on the score card, but they will hit him. That’s a team that loves to get a hold of your legs and roll too.
They will hit him? GOOD!!! He NEEDS to get hit!!! If we are just going to try and keep him in a glass house and hope no one touches him all year, we are Screwed, He,NEEDS to be able to take getting hit, or giving him our 1st team reps is pointless!
..
“I’m anxious to play. I want to play Satrday. I want to get Hit, I want to get back up and show that im ready for the NFL season” -Bradford Today via Sal Pal
…
Mentally he is going to be anxious and Nervous in his first live action… Even if you play him a handful of snaps, I’d like him to face a LIVE rush at least 2 different days before Atllanta… Even if we only want him to play 1 series Saturday, and 2 series against GB, that’s FINE…. I just want him to have to warm up, mentally prepare for live action on 2 different days, deal with the butterflies, pLay thru them, and hopefully see on Both Occassions that he is able to get thru the live action healthy…
..
Let’s say you want him to take 20 Reps in Game 3, Id Rather give him 10 reps in game 2, and 10 reps in game 3…
…
Just my preference for getting him rid of Atlanta,. This is the most important player of chips offense, I will trust however he goes about getting his starting QB ready to play for the season, but I would be a little surprised to not see him on Saturday… this is the OL that has to keep Bradford healthy this year…Mathis ain’t walking thru Tbose Novacare doors, the starting OL and Gardner was very sharp in game 1, and they have all week to learn the tendencies of Raven players.. we are going to have to trust Gardner and Barbre to hold up anyway..
…
I wish chip would just make his decision public. The unknown speculation gets this FANBASE antsy..
..
When do you think we will get an official answer? an hour before game time?
He’d get plenty of snaps against Green Bay right? All I’m saying is if Chip isn’t positive, Ravens are dirty, f’ em.
Not like week 1 against that Atlanta d is the equivalent of being thrown to the wolves.
I’m good either way, but if Chip has any doubts, I say play it safe. The W is worth nothing.
I will support whatever they decide.. Not sure hos fans can complain about the Eagles doing what Tney think is best for getting a player ready while making sure he gets to september Healthy…. As much as I want to see SAM play, if he Doesmt play Saturday, it’s not like Chip is doing it out of spite… Whatever they decide is best for SAM and Demarco is fine with me.. But I would be a little surprised if SAM doesn’t play Saturday, but whatever
…
Kind of a weird feeling to be around the corner from the season and have no idea what our QB or Run game will look like…I didn’t expect to have no idea what, chips offense would look like in year 3. So many unknowns to fans…. could Bradford possibly look as amazing as he has in practice? What does Demarco and Ryan look like as alternating Ohysical battering rams, after being so accustomed to smaller shifty runners from Westbrook to Shady? What does Huff look like in a prominent role?
..
Its going to be weird in game 3 to Bradford and murray in the backfields leading the Eagles… Kind of weird that there are more questions sorrounding Chips offense, then our Defense of ST going into the season.
Agreed on all points
I think Sam is smart enough to avoid a hit, as our O line is probably the best O line he has ever played behind.
I would put our O line against any pass rush.
We have Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce and Jason Peters and they can handle the Ravens stellar pass rush with stellar O line play IMO.
We are far better than the Pat’s O-line.
It’s not a matter of being smart. You can avoid hits if you backpedal yourself out of the play, part of the job is standing tall in the pocket, delivering the ball and taking one on the chin.
Pure Applesauce!
I love Chip Kelly and how he toys with the media.
My favorite one was when he recently said, “go
ahead and write what you want.”
Take everything and give them nothing.
Kelly is never going to give the media too much info on any player.
Sam needs some live action, and I feel Chip knows he should get at least one or two drives.
Practicing with the Ravens and having an ex eagles coach in Harbaugh may be a good thing.
This way Chip can call plays that will limit Sams chances of taking a hit
Quick hand offs and bubble screens and no time consuming pass routes should do the trick.
“Bradford said he will play Saturday but adds he hasn’t talked to Chip
this week and basing that on conversation with him last week”
don’t the falcons have a good pass rush too?
My understanding is their defense was abysmal across the board, but I’ll take another look.
Either way it’s a moot point. The is a W on the line, it doesn’t matter what risks Sam faces in the regular season, there is nothing left to save him for, that’s it.
Shede Hageman got a concussion the other day, Vic Beasly is going to get tossed on his head by jason Peters….
..
They have desmond Trufant at corner who I really like
Yeah, we should absolutely tear them apart. But then week 1 is always Bizarro week.
As evidence by the Eags giving us heart attacks last year when playing the Jags.
Marcus Smith is injured with a hamstring that will probably linger for months. Sam Bradford probably won’t play against the Ravens. At this point we’re coddling him. If he gets injured in a preseason game, he probably would have gotten injured eventually anyway. Rather them get him onboard with live NFL action, you know, 4 or 5 guys all over 270lbs running full speed at you. Real football.
Smh… This comment section today doesn’t look much different from Phill.com… The doom n gloom, the default negativity, reading into whetner a player was sitting in the front of the cart, back of the cart, or on the trainers fuckin Lap…
..
Smh….
GEAGLE are you really criticizing other people’s comment habits?
…
Half his output is complaining about other posters. The other half is complaining about the media.
You must be new here!
I didn’t know he read other people’s comments… Just assumed he was always typing
That may be true, but GEAGLE has a point in this case.
Save the doom and gloom when we actually lose a game. Geez.
but then we would no longer be eagles fans would we?
“If he gets injured in a preseason game, he probably would have gotten injured eventually anyway.”
…
That statement has no merit or validity behind it. Did you make that up or did you read that somewhere because unless you’re a fortune teller I don’t get how you can think that is the case. Of course they are coddling him what would you expect them to do. They traded assets, are paying him 16mil this year, and he hasn’t played in basically 2 years so of course they want to manage his reps. I don’t see anything wrong with it.
…
Demarco Murray played in all games last year and isn’t injured but he is being eased in and coddled as well and you’re not saying anything about that.
…
My basic premise is I am on board with them taking all the necessary precautions when it comes to the most important position on the field.
The RBs in this offense run 3 different plays so no, that’s not too concerning.
But I think it is legitimate to wonder what the difference will be from giving SB reps this week vs. next week when if you do it this week it’s more time to get the kinks out.
Chip already said, Sam is playing Saturday, so where are you getting this information?
Default Negativty mode… The Philadelphia way…when in doubt, assume sky is falling…of course.
he said today he might not play him
i heard him say if Sam rolled an ankle today then he wouldnt play so hes not going to say Sam will be out there bc who knows what might happen btwn now and then… sky is still in the sky..
To be fair Bradford hasn’t been cleared as 100% for that long right now I’m fine with giving him as much time as he needs before they put him in. I mean it makes me nervous, but I’d say it’s fairly safe. I’m not sure what you really learn about your starters in preseason anyway. I think it’s incredibly overrated.
Man, talk about a negative outlook and spinning the worst possibility of a hypothetical situation.
This should be the time of year when the most hope is warranted.
Chip has upgraded the entire team in numerous positions and has even upgraded several depth positions.
Our defense looks to be improved and Sam Bradford is throwing lasers in camp, connecting at a high percentage.
He looks the part and has an injurious past, so coddling him as you say, might not be such a bad idea.
Too bad for Marcus, but before panicking we maybe we should wait to hear what the extent of the injury is.
Smith is not a starter, nor was he so good that we should feel doomed, even if he lost for the season.
I am sure by roster cuts we can get someone if we have to, replacing his potential production or even get an upgrade. He is not that great to begin with.
freakin college coach that’s why if Arians was our coach this wouldn’t stand
ooh that’s harsh, arians is the worst.
didn’t he coach college also?
Sarcasm.
What does Marcus Smith hurting his hammy have to do with preseason PT for Bradford? Just askin!
hoping our useless media asks chip or Pat Shurmur one simple question:
..
If The plan is to keep Pope Mathews in the slot, but Jordan grows and proved to be our best WR.. What happens when we only have 1 or 2 WRs on the field this year? will Mathews be out of the game, or would he lineup at one of the outside Wr spots when the play DOESNT call for a slot WR?
..
With Ertz and Celek, we won’t always be 3 WR sets, their wont always be a slot WR…. We also will want to give Sproles some snaps lined up in the slot… I assume Jordan woulld play rather then sit him on the bench so Coop and Huff can play in 2WR sets….we can’t bench our best WR whenever we want to use two TEs or whenever we want Sproles in the slot…
..
Last year I understand letting a rookie focus on 1 role, but in year two, I have no problem with them keeping Jordan in the slot, as long as we don’t view our slot as the traditional #3’WR…. Jordan Mathews is ready to Soar! He needs to be our #1 WR, who we move into the slot during 3 WR sets..
Especially the way we operate, once we turn on the tempo, there are no subs. You don’t want him on the bench when that happens. He’s at his best in those situations. Many people struggle to find one elite trait that stands out about Matthews on paper, he’s good across the board, but I agree with Kempski on this, the kid has unreal stamina, no matter how tired he gets, he never slows down, when we turn on the tempo, he shines.
hey 99 why you on a knee?
Love that he was mic’d up. Stick a microphone in front of him a million times after practice and games and you’d never get to see that side of him
pig Face Arians is having trouble in Cardinal Paradise…
..
Arizona lineman are dropping like flies both OL and DL..
..
RT Massie is suspended for the first few games, and Bruce Arians keeps ripping their first round pick DJ Humpries. Arians claims Bradley Sowell will start in place of Humphries to replace Massie at RT
..
Cardinals LG MIke Iupati (prized free agent) had surgery to repair a torn meniscus, forcing the Cardinals to turn to Ted Lansen to start in place of Iupati
..
on the other side of the ball, Darnell Dockett left them in Free agency, they replaced him with Corey Peters who has been diagnosed with a Torn Achilles. The Cardinals DL was already questionable now they have to turn to a 4th Round rookie
..
Stud LB Daryl Washington has already missed 16games via suspension for his drug Ban, and it looks like he won’t be reinstated any time soon..
.
Sucks to have so much trouble in the trenches when you have an Old man at QB coming back from an ACL tear..
..
They also felt the need to sign C2J in the middle of August, shows what they thought about their group of RBs..
.
This powerhouse 49ers window quickily slammed Shut….. And Bruce Arians better start worrying about his “Window”.. Older QB coming off a knee injury, mess of an OL, not much confidence in your RBs..DL issues… And Arians has soured on their young QB project Logan Thomas…
..
Bruce Arians ISNT going to be too excited to put this OL In front of the Rams,DL twice a year.. I’ll be surprised if Carson Palmer gets thru both Rams games healthy
whatever it takes to knock him down a peg or two!
I can’t put into words how grateful I feel that schedule makers are letting us play the Cardinals for the 3rd year in a row… Losing to them the way we did just doesn’t sit well with me… I CANT WAIT to play them, LATE IN THE SEASON when beating them could mean crushing their playoff hopes.. I despise that Team.. I want to destroy them this year, and when we beat them we will have been one 3rd down stop on defense short of beating Bruce Arians 3’years in a row which would have felt so so good… Hopefully when we play them, the Cardinals need to beat us to keep play off hopes alive, and I want us to be responsible for ending their season…
..
so thankful to find them on ourt schedules or the 3rd year in a row
But but but the Eagles offense is college offense that won’t be successful in the NFL according to Arians.
…
I hate that turd of a coach so much, I really cant wait till we put the hurt on them this year.
Nice little rivalry brewing both games have been ugly nail biters.
Yeah, I would enjoy that as well.
It’s also funny as that’s how I feel about the Cowbums.
I love beating that team, especially this year, just to show them how dumb they are for letting Murray come to Philly.
I mean, of all the dimwitted moves the cowbums have made, this one takes the cake.
I hope Murray GASHES their D for 200 on the ground and 150 in the air.
Also it would be extra special if we can get Miles Austin involved in the trouncing with a couple of TD’s and a double reverse run just to rub it in.
The new OLB Watkins was thrown out of practice… Did anyone else hear that GJ KINNEY was tossed out of yesterday’s practice or did I dream that?
for fighting or something else?
Rough housing, not sure if a mini altercation started or an excessive hit,,,
Kinne kept snickering, “I got your Har-baughs right here.”
” FIGHT! Well, sort of. It didn’t last very long. It started when rookie defensive end Brian Mihalik laid out a running back as he ran by. It was hard to get a good read on what exactly happened in the scrum, but Mihalik didn’t appear to be involved. Instead, undrafted rookie free agent Diaheem Watkins was the one who got kicked out of practice. That’s standard policy for Eagles players who fight during joint practices. There were a couple more very minor scrums throughout practice, but nothing ever came to blows.”
Oof, if Prosinksi is hurt in any bad way that’s a blow to the safety depth. Lets hope Ed Reynolds continues to shine. Glad we’re loaded with good STers, that would hurt even more if he was our only ace.
Steelers GM Kevin Colbert says the team has no plans to renegotiate Antonio Brown’s contract. — damn. If there’s one guy that should hold out…
Who would you rather have (trade for)
Antonio Brown or The Chancelor?!
Chancelor all day.
Where would he play? You know Chip and Billy D aren’t changing their scheme. Cam would have to cover Slot WRs one on one at the LOS with a single S over the top.
I think he’s a great talent and maybe they work on his coverage skills. We’re weaker there right now.
I don’t think Cam will ever be able to cover the way we ask our Safeties to cover. I like him, but I don’t think it would work in this scheme. The Safeties we have are both CBs for a reason.
If we changed our scheme, id be all for it
Maybe he can play OLB for us since they are dropping like flies. Tell him to add about 30 lbs of muscle and he’d be good.
Guess we can add OLB to 2016 draft list
I like brown, but it’s not like we need a dominant WR in this scheme, although he does also play special teams so he’s a perfect CK guy.
Steelers making the transition from a defensive team to one of the best offensive ones.
I’m blown away by Eric ROWE… The kid was moved to Nickle CB, a new position he has never played, and like 10 days later he is battling hard, competing against Steve Smith this week…. Everyone knows how great of a,deep threat smith has been, nice to hear Rowe ran stries for stride with sMith when Flacco tried to test the rookie deep, tight coverage forced Flacco to overthrow it out of bounds… I despise rookie corners but this kid seems to a adapt quickily.
..
The way this RAW top young talent is picking things up so quickily reminds me of the growth rate of Lane Johnson…
..
Saturday, if the Ravens starters happen to lineup in 3 WR sets, I’d like to see us throw ROWE out there with the ones and see if he can answer the bell against Steve Smith in a live game… The Ravens probably aren’t going to play Smith much, but I’d like to see ROWE get thrown into the fire against smith… Once the ones leave the field, go back to rotating Watkins, Biggers and Rowe for the rest of the game.
Okay. Time to see if we can get a 4th for Barkley.
https://twitter.com/diannaESPN/status/634459396995682304
Just realized I posted the wrong one.
https://twitter.com/diannaESPN/status/634459303739555840
heard matty b not tradeable
That’s sad.
He’s just hyping him up so he can get a shot at another team in a few weeks.
Probably, makes sense.
One can hope, I guess.
watching skins play — lions are trucking their OL, nobodies going to be feasting.
is scherff playing?
LOL – he’s the one that got trucked.
https://twitter.com/SBNation/status/634511639295995904
Send in the Nobodies
Paging D3FB, your boy just got killed by..whoever that is.
He’s been playing RG for like a week.
Fletcher Cox is going to demolish that line.
Weak… They already decided he can’t Play tackle..
..
After not have a first round pick for almost half a decade because the RG3 trade, they finally get a first round pick, and these donkeys spent a top 5 pick on a friggin Guard…LOL Brilliant.
..
Chance Warmack wasn’t even a top 5 pick. If you draft a guard that hIgh he BETTER be Can’t Mss DONINANT from day 1…morons
I wish that was on ESPN. Idk why the hell are they showing bills vs browns
https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/634511023270178816
Isn’t Training Camp close to halfway over?
Yeah. He’s holding out because he thinks someone will pay him that money. That money is never coming back.
“Wait, there is a possibility someone else is interested? Quick Drew, burn that bridge to Seattle.”
Isn’t this the kind of thinking that led to his unemployment?
yeah classic, the seahawks are interested, tell them to hold on because maybe some one else is. dumbass.
go get you league minimum mathis
The team that went to the Super Bowl the last 2 years, should have won both, is expressing interest in hiring him, and Mathis is saying, “Hold on a sec, my other line is ringing”. Pardon my language, but WTF?
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ah5zCBF6Ppc/SvIQ1dpQt3I/AAAAAAAAg2Q/BpYkhOUOkNc/s400/11.jpg
Mathis wants to be paid+greedy Agent = questionable decision making
Redskins can’t block and now apparently they can’t tackle either.
skins won’t stand a chance unless they get better line play. 10 plays RGIII’s been hit 6 times including 2 sacks.
make that 3 sacks and a sack fumble.
He has been down for a long time now…
And he just got up.
I am about to try drafting a fantasy team made completely out of Eagles players in some random ESPN League. It worked for me the first year I played fantasy back in 2004 until we sat our starters the last two weeks and I lost in the championship game.
RGIII: 8 dropbacks, 6 hits, 3 sacks, 1 batted pass, 1 FF — injury.
nice line Reginald the 3rd
Holy hell. Those are video game numbers.
Out of curiosity, what happened with the two passes he threw cleanly?
right into the lumber yard
Not pretty
Did he really get hurt?
yeah, being evaluated in the locker room for head injury and stinger
Really, not going to the locker room and staying behind that line would indicate a head injury.
he was laying on the ground for 3 minutes before he could get up.. Head injury and stinger in right side of his body … Safe to say he is HURT
time to trade tebow for him
He got HIT HARD on a couple of them.. Deandre Levy destroyed RG3 with monster hit .. I enjoy seeing QBs of division rivals hit so hard in preseason
In Bills-Browns news, Bills RB depth is so poor that their leading rusher outside of Tyrod Taylor doesn’t even have a profile on NFL.com.
how does TT look?
I wouldn’t mind having him to compete for second string… and wouldn’t be surprised if beat Marky Mark
He has had a couple of nice plays. I live in DC area so I am flipping between the two games. His stat line looks pretty good as well.
Actually looked pretty good..playing against starters with his backup receivers and 5th string rbs..moves well, reads the field and passes were all on the money..i only saw one incompletion and that was on a bomb that just slightly missed the mark due to great coverage by the db
Not bad… Better then anything the Browns have… And he is playing with a 6th string RB and the 4th and 5th WRs on the depth chart… The TE Clay is a good player but he didn’t deserve to be the highest paid TE in the league
Literally all 3 of their top RBs shady, Fred and Bryce are all out with hamstrings (need some sports science in their life lol).. Then 2 other RBs are injured, and the top 3 bills wr are also injured.
..
Why did the browns talk up McCown? Why would they decide to sign a 36yr old journeyman QB to start? Seriously, the Bills should spend their first 3 picks in every draft on 3 QBs to look at.. Draft 3 QBs each year til they find one worth a damn.. 26 different starting QBs since 1999… They shouldn’t even think of another position til they find a legit QB
Or, they could just give up on passing as part of their offense. It might be time to admit they aren’t going to get it right.
Lol did you see the play calling when Johnny came in the game.. First 6 plays were 5 runs and a screen pass lol
Skins RBs look good.
Yeah Matt Jones had a pretty impressive run up the middle. He might replace Morris as the lead back next year if he keeps regressing.
RG3 is hurt again.. He was on the ground for like 3 minutes before he could get up
Wonder where he ends up next year
He will be our 2016 version of Tim Tebow.
Id take RG3 over Tebow everyday and twice on Sunday.
I agree just so Chip can turn him into a quality QB and I can lord it over all the skins fan I work with.
Nothing will ever turn RG3
Into a decent QB… Friggin Geno smith might even be better then him
Rg3 is worthless.. He is the New Mike Vick. Dude still hasn’t made it to his 2nd or 3rd read… If his first read isn’t open, it ends in disaster..
..
After Vick and Tebow, please spare me RG3 and Manziel.. Keep those two donkeys away from philly and I’ll support anyone else .. Id rather endure garbage Kapernick or EJ manuel
I think RG3 is better than “throw it as hard as I can Kap.” And I need to see more than a handful of snaps from Johnny.
I think RG3 is better then NO ONE!!!
He’s fixable.
confirmation bias?
Mike Shanahan utterly ruined RG3. When he was still in that playoff game and his knee collapsed like a piece of wet spaghetti. Just utterly destroyed. His confidence, his body, everything.
Last week Shannahan claims that he still believes Kurt Cousins will be a quality franchise QB in this league…. LOL!!!
I actually like Colt, I think he could start. But agree RGIII is done. Funny thing is I was watching that game w/ skins fans and they wanted to keep him in, who knew things would turn out this way.
Is it better or worse than the Mike Vick arc in philly?
It just goes to show with both Vick and RG3 that when you get a young brash cocky college QB you either need to sit him for a little while (which I think really helped Rodgers) or a hard ass no nonsense coach who can channel that.
I really think rookie QB’s starting day 1 does more harm than good.
The problem is expounded because most of the teams and coaches in a position to draft these QB’s are in “win now” mode.
Totally agree, then he came back way too soon after the injury
Mike Shanahan just goes to prove that if you win even 1 superbowl then the media will over-rate you FOREVER. Mike Shanahan could strangle a puppy on live TV and people would still bow down to him.
Best QB in the league right there
Oops, Josh Mccown 2/3 for 18 yards and an interception. Johnny Football might win that battle by default.
Interception was on a tip but still not a good look.
Sounds like he throws a very catchable ball.
Colt McCoy ran some read option
Mccown another interception. Manziel just has to go out there and not totally fuck up and the job is his.
I don’t understand how the friggin Browns signed a 36yr old QB that SUCKED for the Bucs last year? How does Cleveland reach the conclusions to sign 36yr old scab? If McCown can’t play with Mile Evans and Vincent Jackson, why would Cleveland think he could work for them?
..,
Why did the bills even do a joint practice with Cleveland? What’s the bills defense going to get out of practicing against McCown and Manziel ? LOL
Its the Browns…. Aren’t they turning Pryor into a WR instead of drafting one to replace Gordon?
Lol Pryor who never played WR before seriously might be their best offensive weapon..
.,
They sign the 36yr old scab QB who played for the team with the worst record that got the #1 pick…
..
Then they sign washed up Dwayne Bowe who can from a team that didn’t complete a single TD pass to a WR all year (Cheifs)
..
And average Brian Hartline?
…
How does Ray Farmer still have a job as a GM? You can’t find anyone that can do better then signing McCown and Dwayne Bowe?
Browns fans have been accustomed to losing… Almost like they’re institutionalized. Would never fly in most NFL cities. Even the Raiders try to win
Josh mccown just threw a perfect deep ball..to the buffalo db
Somebody just took Russell Wilson third overall in a league I am currently drafting for…
Wow..thats…bold. I like russel but 3rd overall? 4th or 5th round is more like it
Its a random free ESPN league. I only joined because I wanted to try and get an all Eagles fantasy team but some asshat saw my plan and took Eagles DST in third round.
Why didn’t we bring in Tyrod? LOL
Well…he’s not white
RG3 cleared concussion protocol. Injury being called shoulder stinger.
Awwww when u said he cleared concussion protocol I got excited and thought he was going back in the game! Lol never know with those Genius’s in Washington……. No Head Injuries? I find that hard to believe.. You don’t lay on the ground for 3 minutes looking like you are dead over a stinger….. Stingers definitely suck, but it’s a sharp pain
Bob’s not gonna make it outta preseason alive
I was just about to type something about liking Colt McCoy and then he fumbled the snap on the goal line…
Wilbert Montgomery is the RB coach of the Browns? A Philly legend deserves better then that
Maybe he just wants to learn how to party like Johnny Manziel.
Some douche picked Eagles DST in the third round killing my dream of an all Eagles fantasy team.
3rd round? damn, I do plan on taking them early though.
Love what Brian Mitchell had to say about RGIII:
“You need to shut the hell up and start playing football.
That would make you important. Win football games in this city, and you
would have this city in the palm of your hands. You had it, and you’re
starting to lose it, because of your talk …
You came here to be a football player, not a damn philosopher. Not a
philosopher. Not a guy that’s always giving us these damn quotes. Who
gives a damn? Normally people care about quotes when you are successful.
And he has not been successful enough to be giving me a quote.
I’m 47 years old. What the hell, I’m gonna listen to a little
wet-behind-the-ears 24-year-old kid who’s done nothing, nothing, to be
sitting up here thinking we’re going to listen to him all day. Do your
job. Which he hasn’t done … I’ve watched this team. I’m passionate about
this team. And I see this one dude who we talk about every day too damn
much because he doesn’t know to shut up and perform.”
Johnny fing football with a couple nice throws on that TD drive
