Eagles Win !!!
Posted: September 27th, 2015 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 232 Comments »Okay, it wasn’t beautiful. The offense disappeared for most of the 2nd half. The Jets made some bonehead mistakes that helped the Eagles out.
But the Eagles made just enough plays to win.
Give them credit for taking advantage of favorable situations. That didn’t happen in the first two weeks.
And let’s also give a ton of credit to the Eagles defense. Missing 3 starters, the group went out there and out-played the Jets and their more heralded defense.
The first two weeks were team losses. This was a team win, with contributions from offense, defense and STs.
The Eagles did not play well today, but they played well enough to win. That’s good enough for now. The team has to build on this, but getting that first win was critical.
Some actual analysis coming later.

What about Bob? Baby steps.
how many more games to give Bradford a chance to prove he is a franchise QB? I mean Sanchez played better than this last year. And I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
Bradford’s accuracy was all over the place. He was putting balls above, behind, below, and guys weren’t helping him out with catches either. He was money on a couple of wheel routes but otherwise seemed to be all over the place.
Reluctance to scramble when he had wide open field in front of him several times was most glaring today. Simply refuses to do it.
Can we put the same criticism on our Wrs as well?
Well we could if there was anybody on the bench behind them.
Austin is the Sanchez of the WRs
Austin should have had 2 TDs. Bradford overthrew one and on another Austin ran a slant early in the game that would have gone for a TD if it weren’t for horrible ball placement by Bradford. Austin knew it to on the slant. When Cromartie deflected it he looked up field knowing what he should have had.
Great play by Cro, far from horrible ball placement.
The second one yes. The first slant to Austin was horrible ball placement. On a slant you are supposed to throw in front, not slightly behind and towards the knee where the defender has a chance. Austin has Cro beat on the first one.
Cromartie was holding all day, yet nothing called
He only throws about 5 passes a game to WRs
Well they didn’t sign him to an extension yet
My thoughts exactly
I’m guessing about 13 more. He’s got to play a lot worse than that to lose his job. Sanchez had a much better OL and even he started losing when Herremans went down (and we still had Mathis).
We did get some serious gifts from the Jets. The Marshall lateral (?) being the biggest one. Concerning that we struggled to beat the Jets, but a win helps us stay off life support for another week. I’ll take it after last weeks horror show.
Jets were 2-0 coming in and looked very good on D first couple weeks. Take any win you can get at this point.
I didn’t say I wouldn’t take the win, but we didn’t exactly light up their D (17 points) and the teams they beat were Cleveland (lulz) and a struggling Colts team, so holding off a Ryan Fitzpatrick led comeback attempt is very different than if we’d come out and thumped them 35-10 or something.
True, but their defense is better than what we’ve faced the 1st two weeks. One of the better ones in the league. The offense is still working out communication issues, but they looked better today.
team win is the perfect description indeed. Boy imagine our D reaction if our O cost us this game.
Game ball goes to…. GE. First time he watches the Eagles live. First W.
When we talk about what they did wrong to give us the game don’t forget we dropped two wheel routes that were more than likely TD’s.
correct.. and watching us go from 3rd & 6 to 3rd & 11 to 3rd & 16 .. only to be gifted that next flag to seal the game… rather rough to watch.
Love watching rookie Hicks!!
And Jenkins is wonderful
True, but I look at it as giving away two little gifts and getting a big gift in return. lol
The drop by Matthews, Bradford actually threw it on the wrong side. Still an awful drop, but not a great pass by Bradford either. Sproles drop was inexcusable. Bradford also missed on several passes, particularly to Austin.
True Matthews had to adjust, Sproles had a clean drop though. The one to Matthews that did connect was Bradford’s best throw possibly of the year, fit that right in there past the linebacker. Still, Bradford not so good,
Cromartie shut Austin down.
Austin was wide-open on that slant that Bradford just flat out missed. Pass out in front and Austin’s still running. Got open on the fade route in the endzone too.
Fade route was there, would have been a very good theow to hit it. Pass to Austin was on the body, hardly counts as a bad throw. Cro was on him all day, and made a solid play on that one. Last time SB led Austin, didn’t work out so well.
When the CB is in trail and there’s no safety, you’ve got to put that ball out in front.
Those who are bitching about the Eagles playing a ‘complete game’ are going to be pretty frustrated all year.
They did play a complete game, it took 12 quarters to do it.
Jets fan and friend ‘When we’ll we ever have a franchise QB?’
Kind of feel the same thing especially since McNabb’s tenure here is stating to get a bit distant in the rear view mirror.
True, but we’ve had the mercurial Michael Vick and his combination of brilliance and shitty play depending on the day. Nick Foles with one of the best seasons in NFL history. Now we have Bradford, who while he hasn’t produced, is reputed to be a great QB. Jets fans understandably would kill to trade that situation.
True although this stretch reminds me of the post-Cunningham years until McNabb got here.
QBs have been better than that group especially Peete. Never understood why Rhodes thought Peete was a decent QB.
Stunk and his ‘leadership’ qualities didn’t overcome the facts he couldn’t read a defense nor his lack of an arm.
One big plus, having such a good pass pro all game long against arguably the best dline in the league. Kudos to our guys for stepping up after a putrid start.
The blocking was much improved, but I still didn’t care for the number of times blockers were getting deposited into Bradford’s lap.
Is Djax playing next week?
probable
Brandon Bair can never be inactive again! Without him we probably lose!
MSII is never going to see the field at this rate
He can buy a ticket like everyone else.
Didn’t remember seeing him once. Getting close to labeling him as ‘massive bust’
I saw him in the background of a sideline shot. To his credit it looked like he was encouraging his teammates.
The way hicks is playing when Alonso And kendricks are 100% it will be time to give them some reps outside…it’s all about playing the next players right
Too small for olb.
All of them are too small in this system. OLB in this system are more like DE in most systems. Barwin is the only guy currently on the team who really fits. (Except for MSII of course who can’t sniff the field.)
Graham is beastly strong.
True.
But Alonso was big enough for the Bills 3-4? On the outside?
Alonso played off the ball linebacker in Buffalo. He was not an on the ball linebacker.
Sam didn’t have a good game. WRs dropped some balls again, and there were other issues. But the one thing that drives me nuts is the predictability of the run game. Today, for fun, I tried calling out the runs during the second half. I don’t know much about formations and such, but turns out you dont really have to with this offense. On first down its a sweep. On second down its an inside zone. Then you have 3rd and 5 and Bradford misfires on a quick hitter. Now, I get that execution is key to the run game. But damn, if everybody knows what this offense is doing, opposing defenses are at a huge advantage, no? I dont know what to think about this. It just drives me crazy that we are this predictable, like Chip has decided that he wants to show the league he can win with only two run plays no matter what happens..
Well today we saw the outside zone. So we’ve now seen the inside zone, sweep and outside zone.
All they haven’t shown is power and some of the wrinkles off inside zone.
Agreed. They also have to generate some kind of backside constraint for both the IZR and OZR. Defenses are ignoring Bradford which is creating some of the problem. I don’t want Bradford to run it twenty times, but even four or five would help. Slide as soon as a tackler gets within five him and it would still improve the running game immeasurably.
Five yards of him*
I think we see more packaged stuff next week, even if it’s just bubble screens or throwing it to the orbit motion in the flat.
Also would be nice to see some wham, with some fake the wham into waggle action.
Hope so. Honestly, expected to see that stuff already because we’ve seen them do it the past.
I think we’re agreed that Kelly has gone back to basics to get things going, it’s now about gradually building on that success.
Yeah, agreed. Just expected a lot more from this offense. I’m a Nick fan, so wasn’t thrilled with the trade for Bradford to begin with, but was willing to see him play in the offense. Three games in and I wish we still had Nick, even with his flaws. I really hope the Eagles get it turned around and Bradford ultimately proves me wrong, but I haven’t been encouraged so far.
I was watching and inside zone and was wondering why Bradford didnt fake the hand off and throw a short pass to Celek for an easy first down. Bradford doesnt eben have to run with it, just keep the ball and toss it to the flat.
They dont run the zone read anymore tho
lol
Yeah this is what I am missing too. Bradford doesnt have to run it himself, he can make the zone read and opt to throw the WR screen or the orbit motion or the TE in the flat, if he is the one leaving the defender unblocked. It seems to me that these were the kind of plays Chip introduced us to, when he first came here. And it was wildly effective. And now its completely gone. Why????
I thought there was one zone read It looked like Bradford tried to pull it back but Matthews locked on to it and Bradford let it go rather than cause a fumble.
Didn’t the we run the OZ against Dallas? It seemed like they ran it every time they put Bradford under center last week.
I’d have to check but that looked like more IZ than OZ
Please do. Thanks
Honestly, I figured they started running it more to get Murray going in a similar play to what he was so successful in Dallas with.
Malcom Jenkins is definitely the eraly leader for Team MVP. What a player.
I think it may be Sproles actually.
Sproles is already in our HOF 🙂
If he had even decent hands, he’d be a league MVP candidate the way he has played early.
He would have like 4 picks already and maybe 2 of them are pick 6s
Cowboys were up 14-0 and lost at home, we played against probably the top defense in the league and won ugly. That’s usually the way you beat a great defense, ugly. I’m happy with today.
We’re on the same page. Offense can and will be better, but they got the W, and now onto Washington.
At least we ran the ball decently enough today. I hate when Chip tries to run down the clock and play conservatively, unless we are consistently running the ball with ease we seem to always find ourselves in 3rd and longs.
I’m happy with the win. We needed to get a W and we did. Defense took advantage of a weaker offense. Offense took advantage of some defensive mistakes.
The offense will continue to get better, but to come out today against a pretty good defense and get some points on the board.
One of my main problems was in the 3rd quarter, Chip ran a running play on 3rd and 4, when it seemed they had the box crowded.
Ughh, that play was terrible. Bradford was walking off the field pretty much right after he handed it off
Why will the offense get better?
Because we got a semblance of the run game going today. OL executed better. Struggles in second half were due to heavy boxes. If we can get some packaged plays, reduce drops, and sam tightens up his accuracy even a little bit then the boxes will get unloaded and the run game will be even more effective. Making the pass game more effective. Snowball effect.
All of those three keys to improving the O are more likely than not.
Expect to see heavy boxes from every team until Bradford and the receivers show they can punish them over the top when they do. So far, that part of the game just hasn’t been there.
Don’t even need to stretch vertically right now, you can stretch horitzontally, we have guys to get the YAC.
Spread offense is best when you force the team to cover the entire field. Safeties and linebackers aren’t showing our receivers any respect. Horizontal spread helps, but you need the vertical spread occasionally as well to scare coordinators from stacking the box.
That’s the final progression but for now a more consitent passing attack even if it’s horizontal should help continue offensive growth.
Frustrating part is that’s been big part of the offense both of Chip’s other years, even with Sanchez at QB. Sanchez missed more open posts than I could count, but he attempted them. I honestly don’t know how much of the blame is on Bradford and how much is on the receivers, but the running game’s ineffectiveness can largely be placed at a combination of lack of deep threat and poor inside O-Line play.
I think it’s a combination of Bradford not being comfortable yet, Agholor still getting his feet wet and an inability to run the ball due to poor OL execution.
We’re starting to dig out of the hole, and it’s not going to come all at once. If we can iron out the kinks piece by piece, get to the break at 4-3 have the bye week to really make sure we’re solid, we’re in good shape.
That 4-3 had best include a win over Carolina going into the bye.
Much more important to beat the Giants/Skins. Going into the break 4-3 gives them a fighting chance of winning the NFC East yet.
I figure we take both divisional games and split the Panthers/Saints. If Brees is out the Panthers game is the most dificult.
The O Line gave some excellent pass protection today. Numerous times. Sam still overthrowing sometimes and receivers still dropping sometimes. Ironically, the receivers with the most drops are the receivers with the most good catches also!
Its bradford. He just doesnt throw deep
They also have a very good secondary that made Luck look like a rookie. The linebackers don’t need to play back. The gameplan was good today and they didn’t execute well in the 2nd half. Sproles and Mathews both dropped 3rd down passes that should have gone for TDs.
I think once we get fewer of our interior o-linemen dropped into Bradford’s lap, he’ll have improved accuracy.
Nobody has ever improved at anything.
To echo Bob, your confidence in the offense improving seems based more on wishful thinking than fact. Third down is one of the areas that I expected real improvement this season, and instead it has gotten worse. Much worse. Bradford has been abysmal on third down and especially on third and long. So tired of seeing him dump it off with no one with five yards of him to a guy with three guys waiting to tackle him.
It’s still early in the season and they started the year with 6 new starters on offense (2 Gs, 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 TE, 1 WR). They will start to gel and they will get better. It’s not like they don’t have talent there. We just need to get through these growing pains and hopefully they start to gel and get hot at the right time.
They played a very good defense today and not for some ill-advised drops in the 3rd – the offense played well too. They weren’t going to throw downfield or have success all day against a very good defense.
This team just needs some more time.
I feel like if Bradford didn’t have such a good game against the Packers he might still be getting some more slack coming off the injury… I mean, going into training camp we weren’t certain he would even be starting week 1 now we’re ready to send him packing after he’s shown accuracy issues in week 3.
Truth.
Falsehood.
So scoring much more points against a better defense isnt improvement to you? Thats pure hogwash. Thats like saying, i had 100 bucks, wanted to get to 1000. Got to 700. No improvement.
Seems like your pessimism is more based in ignorance than fact.
Team’s success is based on the offense thanks to the scheme that Kelly runs. yes, scoring 17 against the Jets was an improvement, but they were still awful on third down. There’s still no deep game. Running game had some big plays, but also couldn’t be counted on to pick up short yardage situations. As long as we’re going to run no-huddle spread, we need to be able to score 24 regularly against good D’s if we expect to win games against good teams. I wouldn’t nearly as down on the offense if they had lots of long drives that ended up in FG’s instead of TD’s. Still would have shown ball control against a good D. Instead it was feast or famine and the famine in the 2nd half almost let the Jets steal a win.
Apologies for the horrible grammar. Hit enter without reading that mess 😛
Still, my pessimism is grounded in how we’ve played the first three games. The things we took for granted the last two years have been completely missing this year. It’s not a case of Kelly’s scheme not having answers, it’s been a case of not executing those answers on multiple levels. OL has been horrific in the running game, but solid in the passing game. Receivers have been drop prone and are struggling to get open. Finally, Bradford remains skittish and gunshy. It’s not a good look. It’s certainly possible for the offense to improve, but today was a baby step. Assuming improvement based on today seems overly optimistic.
Did M.Smith play a snap tonight?
I think on punt coverage
Poor Kid has been killed by all the media and fans expectations and of course the massive reach.
Blame the FO for taking him early. I still think he has enough talent to eventually be a player, but he needs to find a nasty streak.
I’ve been trying to remember, wasn’t Graham’s introduction also a bit slow and quiet for a few seasons at first?
He got hurt.
Yeah, what John said. Injuries.
Also, Graham wasn’t universally considered a reach by the draftnicks. He’s still considered a bust by some and the fact that we passed on Earl Thomas to draft him is just salt in the wound.
Statistially, and actually, the draftnicks are wrong more than half the time so it is foolish to base statement off of them.
True, but it does weigh into expectations. When a player is universally thought to be a reach, if he doesn’t perform at an exceptional level, he’s likely to be assumed to be a bust even faster. The draftnick community is a relatively decent conglomeration of what most teams think, so completely ignoring it is as foolish as overvaluing it.
“The draftnick community is a relatively decent conglomeration of what most teams think.” No its not.
And assumptions are known to be foolish by definition so who cares who/what is more likely to be assumed anything at all?
The draftniks and assumptions have been proven by any sound scientific analysis to be clueless and foolish, but you are arguing that we should treat them otherwise. WHY?
http://eaglesrewind.com/2014/05/16/draft-talk/
While I think we can put too much emphasis on what the draftnicks say, completely ignoring them is idiocy. eaglesrewind.com does as good a job as any site I’ve visited of actually taking a scientific look at football.
He looked really good by the end of his rookie season – had 6? sacks I think. Then got injured and his career went sideways for 2 years.
Graham had double difficulties befall him as rookie. The first was that his knee was weakened by cowardly cheap chop block from Tyson Clabo in the Atlanta game that ultimately led to him tearing that knee a few weeks later. The other was being stuck playing for idiot McDermott and not allowed to play straight 4-3 DE on every snap. He was put into pass coverage far too often as well as used at DT on pass rush.
It wasnt a massive reach. Maybe ten spots, maybe. He wasnt makong it out of the first.
Many folks on here don’t want to hear that unfortunately.
I’ve got few big concerns but i’ll just enjoy the win for now. Its been a while
I’m with you.
On a side note julio Jones is having an absolutely Rediculous season
Just imagine if he were having a ridiculous season.
lol for some reason i always spell that wrong. but what hes on pace for like 2000 yards and 20 tds
Too bad he can’t play the NFC East all season.
Falcons play the NFC East and AFC South–
He’s probably going to have some fun with the Jaguars, Titans, Colts and Redskins defenses
Or if he played for the Cheif’s, it would be Reidiculous.
That was a very encouraging game. You want to move the ball in the second half but that was one of the top defenses in the league. The main thing on offense is that where sweeps were made impossible by confused blocking assignments, that part of the game was cleaned up. They had to do that against a Jets DL that has a scary list of names lining up, and thank Washington for passing up Leonard Williams. Getting guys open deep continues to be an issue.
There were lapses in run and pass D against Dallas, but that’s been cleaned up well. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the whole Eagles secondary play that well, against a good fleet of receivers and a QB who wasn’t that bad. Pressure was improved but not great.
Ryan Matthews had a high profile fumble for the Chargers and then improved his ball control, with a lower fumbling rate than Murray the last few years. I’m glad Chip gave it back to him after he coughed it up, even though he wasn’t holding it well.
Overall, I am seeing a team of new players and as new a strategy as there is in the league start to find cohesion.
Was a great play by the Jets player – head hit right on the tip of the ball with his full body weight behind it. So hard to keep control of the ball in that situation.
Barbre was supposed to go and block the guy who hit Murray, but failed to get up field.
Why was someone hitting Murray? Did they call a penalty for hitting an inactive player on the sideline? 🙂
Just realized we had 2 starters out to end the game on the OL. Considering the defensive front, I think that’s pretty good.
Was it just me or did Chip’s play card look even smaller than usual today?
I look forward to all the NFL “experts” explaining how they wiffed on us and LAUGHED at our boys pre-game. Oopsy…
There were lots of people picking the Eagles. Man, how did someone from Hawaii become such a homer?
Not from Hawaii, just lucky to LIVE here. And there were ALOT not picking EAGLES.
Nfl network spent half the morning ragging on eagles, wrong scheme, wrong personnel, coach lost the players.
I love how many “analysts” are hoping Kelly fails. It’ll make it that much sweeter the success he has later in the season.
yea it is kind of sad how personal some talking heads take it
Eagles became a ball control team today, worked the clock . Very few chances downfield. Sweep play was working and wheel route but not much else
Yeah. Bradford, when he wasn’t off target, wasn’t getting any help from his receivers.
This is interesting. Their TOP was about 3 min more than ours. They didn’t rush to the LOS unless they got a couple 1st downs it seems like.
Thought it was strange playing from shotgun on the 1. Do they even have a play from under center
on NYJ 1 or our 1? They ran a bunch of plays from under center today
Ok good, from our 1 SB standing in end zone trying to throw when they needed a few yards for space. Felt risky, they got a few running from gun on 2nd down.
I played the Jets D and sat Sproles on my fantasy team in hopes of a reverse Jinx. I will live up to my obligation and to try to pick up whatever D is facing the Eagles for the rest of the season.
Thanks. Eagles still need all the help they can get.
How the hell does Russell Wilson not get called more for grounding? Dude just chucks it to nobody at all at least 10 times a game.
i saw him do it once today when they were at like the 5……he does get away with it alot
Think he is often ‘outside the tackle box’, but frankly it has never made a huge amount of sense to me why that is the case.
“The Eagles did not play well today, but they played well enough to win. That’s good enough for now.”
I’ll take the win. There are still some putrid interior blocking issues to clean up, but I’ll take the win.
Now we need to ride some momentum to a week 4 win over Washington.
Only 1 game behind Dallas. Who knew Atlanta would own the NFC East. Watching Dallas blow a lead is damn-satisfying.
We won, I said it before, doesn’t really matter what the W looks like. Saw progress and if we ever do get it together, going to need some w’s in the mean time so we can do something with that resurgence.
Of course it’s frustrating to see coaches act like a game plan that got them up 24-3 in a half is going to turn into a Viper that will bite them any second. Ok now switch to a passive defense, slow the offense down the a crawl and over-dial the run plays to maximize the time burn on the 3 and outs we’ve resigned to.
Is Bill Belichick the only dude that will stick with a winning formula until it stops working in a game? (the TV next to the Eagles game was playing the Jags and Pats) Screw drawing a line in the sand and betting your opponent can’t score x points in x minutes. Love that he coaches to score as many points as possible no matter the situation (hard to cross a moving finish line) while continuing to aggressively smother on defense.
I live in NE didn’t get the Eagles game and watched most of the Pats. I know it’s the Jags, but at one point maybe in the 3rd qtr the Pats had scored on every possession. Then they scored another 20.
I also saw Brady shoot out his hands on hard counts maybe 4 times, I swear that’s a false start.
It seems like they only call it if it draws an off-sides.
Kraft must really have pictures! Or something! It’s almost every game.* Every year.*
I love how in one episode of Hard Knocks a Texans QB gets called for that and Bill O’ Brien yells to him “theres only one QB in the league who can get away with that”! figured he was talking about Brady although Rodgers does it alot too and gets those free plays
I was thinking of that each time I saw it happen.
You missed the Brandon Bair show.
They. Are. So. Bad.
The Jets? Or the Bears?
The 49ers? The Ravens? The Saints? The CowPokers? ;~).
Fanqq’s hemorrhoids
Chip Kelly
Oh, and shout out to the Rookies and the D. Without those 4 turnovers, the Jets probably get past that line in the sand. Anyone else find it funny Rowe is wearing the baggy sleeves like Maxwell? DWAAAAAA!
#sleeves don’t matter at all…ever
p.s #fetishes are weird
So I had a family function and had to miss watching game. Thought I had it DVRed. Screwed that up. Anyone know where I can catch it?
I fully expected to lose this game, so I figured we would win.
Overall feel from you guys that saw it?
Defense without 3 starters played well. Hicks is legit. Bair earned a rotational spot to see the field. 3 batted passes I think. Maxwell played much better and did a decent job against Marshall. Though not a fan, I liked that Billy D mixed it up versus Marshall and players made plays. Rowe is getting better and came up with a couple big plays.
The offense is starting to get it together. They are still out of sync. Tobin played the 2nd half I think, so I hope Gardner is okay. Barbre had a couple nice blocks and the OL did well against a stellar defensive front. Bradford still made some bad passes, but Sproles and Mathews had some costly drops in the 2nd half.
After looking the way we have against those bad defenses, to hear good things at all against the Jets is nice.
The whole defense played very well. There were a few mistakes, but we’re talking about human beings. All the extra LBs and DBs that so many folks complained about turned in some beautiful plays. The offensive line did some excellent pass blocking, but not so much on many of the run plays. Still gained over 100 yards though. Sam still looks rusty or whatever. Sproles was a Jet-killer. STs gave away a TD last week, picked up a TD this week. In the second half the Eagles ate up the clock on both sides of the ball.
As for Tommie’s comment that the losers contributed to the loss, that is true in every sporting event. The type and timing of mistakes usually determines the outcome. Anyway, the win was nice, the team showed marked improvement in many areas, no matter how many whiners try to tell you otherwise.
Cant imagine it could of gotten worse 🙂 Thanks!
Perhaps there are only so many problems which can be improved at one time. Next week?? ;~)
julio is on pace for 181 2345 and 21. obviously not sustainable but wow
Old man Fitzgerald is one-upping that.
Do we think that Marshall has spent too much time watching Rugby World Cup or Jaryd Hayne highlights with that lateral effort?
So both Tobin and Kelly were in to end the game in the 2nd half. Peters is okay though.
Thought I saw Tobin in at LT at the end. Might explain the offense sputtering in the second half, but we may have been overly conservative as well.
Yeah, it was a combination of both.
Didn’t play the last series. No update on him.
Gardner left the locker room in a boot and was on crutches after the game. I imagine he is going to miss a fair amount of time.
So we should expect to see Tobin for a few weeks?
I’d imagine so. Probably won’t clarify until Tues/Wed after they run an MRI on Gardner tomorrow.
Didn’t see it but I just refuse to see anything but positive until Wed. We can’t improve in every area at once. We got the running game a little on track, rookies stepped up (!!), we appear to have 2 starting caliber NFL safeties (!!!!!).
We really had to win and we won. I’ll leave whether Bradford is good enough and the other questions/complaints for another day. Today was a good day.
And look at the Steelers where Ben may be done for the year. Give thanks.
Thank you Howie and Lurie for not having these QBs as our QB
Kaepernick
Fitzpatrick
Winston
Clausen
There are some Texans fans wondering why you can’t throw them a bone.
Alright ok I’ll add in Mallet too.
he went 11-5 for the Dark Lord. So is it Belicheat or Brady?
That was Cassell. Mallet didn’t play for him at all I think.
Didn’t see most of the game, but I did see the end. Winston really did suffer from a lot of drops and poor WR play. On the positive, the OL wasn’t that bad against Watt et al.
Not sure what’s up with Kaepernick.
Of course, I’ll be snarky and say it’s such a good thing we don’t have Foles as our QB too!
So I guess Fletcher lost his starting job already with the Pats.
Utterly amazes me how effortlessly they plug in pieces around Brady and on defense without missing much of a beat.
it’s an odd scenario. On the one hand, I hear you, who are their WR’s or Corners? But nobody can cover Edelman, and NOBODY can cover Gronk.
There was a debate going on NFL radio the other day saying Belichick wouldn’t be anywhere close to how great he is considered due to having Brady….I believe it was Maurice Jones Drew and a guy named Bruce Murray who think he has been beyond awful with his draft picks
Ryan Mallet went 11-5 when Brady missed a season and can’t start anywhere else. So how does NFL radio explain that? I think Belicheck > Brady in this comparison.
That was Matt Cassell, not Mallet.
yep my fault, but the point stands.
yea, well they are probably my least favorite hosts on NFL radio as i generally don’t agree with what they have to say. I think MJD doesn’t generally recognize players outside of WR/RB, he is one of those guys who thinks they are the only positions that matter, which i am in total opposite belief of. I can see where Bill B has his faults in drafting at that position, but McCourty, Chandler Jones, Jamie Collins, Dontae Hightower and Dominique Easley have been all been solid/very good picks IMO and that’s just recently. His 07 and 08 drafts were pretty brutal but it isn’t like he picks in an ideal draft spot every year either
If he is the worst fm in history but still has 4 rings than he is an even better coach.
haha, that is certainly a logical way of looking at it!
I’d give more credit to Brady than Belicheck at this point.
What Brady is doing so far this year at 38 is nothing short of astounding.
so do i, people come and go, Brady stays and the Pats stay in contention every year….these guys made it seem like Belichick does nothing but hold the team back though, which to me is crazy
The only QB who had a better season at a more advanced age was Favre (40) with the Vikings in ’09.
If the Pats win another SB this year and Brady has a near-MVP caliber year, he is the greatest player in NFL history.
People may hate or loathe him for various reasons at this point but he is amazing to watch.
i agree, i already consider him the greatest QB of all time, i’m fairly young tho (28)
Other than Jordan Matthews (six catches for 49 yards), there wasn’t an Eagles receiver with a reception
WOW

cowgirls lost.
Other than Jordan Matthews, there hasn’t been an Eagles receiver that’s played worth a shit once this season.
I would counter that, other than Jordan Mathews, all of the Eagles receivers have played worth shit this season.
Point Differential
Boys: 0
Skins: -4
Giants: +6
Eagles: -5
Mediocrity abounds in the NFC East but it is surprising how closely they are clustered.
‘Race to Eight’ (Eight wins and Eagles beating Dallas in the rematch/going 4-2 in the NFC East) is what I think will be an apt title for the NFC East race
Marshall puts up 10, 109, 1 TD while primarily being matched up vs Maxwell (who also got called for 2 holding penalties in the 2nd half) and it was a better week. Yikes.
I’m sure Jackson is salivating at the chance of getting matched up 1-on-1 with Maxwell let alone ODB in 3 weeks.
He looks worse then nnamdi. It’s either a completion or penalty
Does Seatle play press coverage because I thought Maxwell was a press corner and too often I see him play off. To be fair, Maxwell is playing some tough WRs but what is the point of paying him if he cant at least hold these guys to under 100 yards and no tds.
Jackson hasn’t practiced since week 1. Not even close to a sure thing he plays.
idk man….Marshall had a handful of catches while he had Carroll matched up on him…even on the touchdown Marshall caught it looked like they were in a cover 3 deep zone and Kerley came into Max’s field of play, Marshall found a soft spot in the coverage and Fitz laid it in nicely
He didn’t look great but he wasn’t matched up exclusively with Marshall as much as you think
TD wasn’t on Maxwell and they played a fair amount of zone especially in the 2nd half.
Maxwell shadowed Marshall a lot though especially in the 1st half and both of the penalties on him in the 2nd half was while he was covering Marshall
fair enough
It looked like a lot of Marshall’s catches came against people other than Maxwell or when the Eagles were in zone coverage.
It seems like Maxwell has gained so much momentum as the whipping boy for this team, that every positive play for the opposing team is blamed on him. Watching the game today, it looked like Maxwell played pretty well. Even when Marshall caught balls on him, Maxwell was close and had good coverage.
just looked at the stat sheet and wow Hicks played well
Your name is too close to the trolls. If no one ever responds to you that is why.
Oh wow I just realized that. Sucks too because I’ve been visiting this site way before the trolls.
The troll is new. We are trying to ignore him.
name has been changed
The Lions two-tone blue Jessie’s are pretty awful. They look like they are sweat soaked in spots.
Dare I say, we actually have 2 above average safeties?
I didn’t see the game (yet.. I’ll get it some how). Good to hear an implication that Thurmond played well again. Honestly I really like our defense. As upsetting as the big plays on Maxwell have been its hard to fault him. Press man vs anyone when your offense isn’t giving you a break seems like a pretty impossible task. Much less Julio jones. It sounds like he did better this week, and it sounds like the D got some bench time too.
The defense looks ok. The pass rush os my biggest concern homestly. Maxwell would look better if the qb doesnt have tome to throw. Even when we blitz the pressure seems minimal. I think, next off season, OL and OLB are the biggest needs.
Yeah and I love it. Thurmond made a nice INT today.
Eagles’ fans voted the team’s performance a ‘C’ today with more Ds than Bs on philly.com.
I just don’t get the fan base here. You give a team a D or F if they lose. Instead, they won on the road against a 2-0 team with a good/very good defense. It salvaged their season in the interim too.
I’m sure it will be another week of general complaining (Bradford, etc) while I’m on the road traveling for work. I won’t miss that.
Yeah it was a good start against a good defense that is coached by someone familiar enough with us. We can build on this. Still a few elements we want to see if we want to go further. We need to establish some of our explosiveness from years past. That’s still MIA. And the drops are getting to be a little ridiculous. But at least we saw some signs of life with the running game. And the special teams finally showed up as well.
They just needed a win. They got it.
Now they have favorable stretch coming up especially if Brees is still out in 2 weeks. Just need to go a minimum of 2-2 (hopefully 3-1) before the bye.
Division games are a coin toss. Not sure how any of that will go. Somewhat optimistic about saints coming to Philly.
I really don’t feel great about the skins game. After our last game with them, confidence isn’t high. I do like that we can essentially force them to beat us through the air.
That drop or miss by Brandon Marshall (eagles interception) really baffkes me … looks like he pulled his best catching arm down!!
Yeah my roommate is a jets fan, he pulled both hands back like he already had the ball and was trying to secure it. He had a crazy day of dominance and bizarre bone headed stuff.
6 WR catches bro. That’s a fukcing EFF
Lets call the bears for Kyle Long. Fire sale going on over there
