Week 2

Posted: September 19th, 2015 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 165 Comments »

Usually Week 2 means you get another chance to see your team in action, as you try to figure out how good this year’s squad is (or isn’t).

Not this year. When you lose the opener and face 1-0 Dallas the next week, that changes things. I don’t believe in “must win” games until you’re at that point where you literally must win to remain in the playoff hunt. Going 0-2 would not end the season. It would complicate things and would also make life miserable.

The Eagles faced a similar situation in 2010. They lost the opener to Green Bay in a wild game and then went to Detroit in Week 2. Eagles won that game and ended up going 10-6. The last time the team went 0-2 was 2007, a mediocre team that seemed to lose games differently all year long. They finished 8-8.

Without Dez Bryant in the equation, the feeling seems to be that the Eagles will win. That makes sense, but the Eagles will need to break the trend of sloppy play in recent home games vs Dallas.

2012 – The Eagles turned the ball over twice. Michael Vick was knocked from the game with a concussion. The offense just went 1 of 10 on 3rd downs.

2013 – Nick Foles got the start and had his nightmare game. He was 11-29-80 and the offense managed a whopping 3 points, which didn’t come until Matt Barkley was in the game. There were 3 turnovers and the Eagles were 4 of 18 on 3rd downs.

2014 – Mark Sanchez started and had a very up and down game. He thew 2 picks and missed some open receivers. The offense had 3 turnovers and there was the ultimate embarrassment of no one securing the opening kickoff, which Dallas recovered.

The good news, maybe, is that the Eagles were sloppy last week. Maybe they got it out of their system. Dallas was also sloppy last week, but they were able to win due to horrible clock management by the Giants and a couple of terrible calls by the officials.

I don’t know that last year’s team felt the pressure of a big game until they played at Green Bay in Week 10. The Eagles went there at 7-2 and that game was all about playoff seeding (or so we thought) and showing the world the Eagles could play with the big boys (which they couldn’t).

This year the pressure game comes early and is more about survival than flourishing.

It will be interesting to see how this group responds.

There’s no excuse to why they would lose this game. Bryant, hardy, and Gregory are out and they don’t have a good running game.

  2. 2 Media Mike said at 7:21 AM on September 19th, 2015:

Especially considering that other than Darren McFadden, the entire Cowboys roster and coaching staff is a known quantity.

  3. 3 xmbk said at 7:23 AM on September 19th, 2015:

No such thing as a gimme. Romo and a top OL, Marinelli is a very good DC. They should win, but they need to bring it and not have the breaks go against them, like the opening kickoff. People forget that Dez cried like a baby after the first game, then got every call in the second one – and they made a difference. Hopefully the refs can stop making headlines.

  4. 4 Media Mike said at 7:25 AM on September 19th, 2015:

“Hopefully the refs can stop making headlines.”

No truer statement exists. Well said.

And I agree it isn’t a “gimmie”; it needs to be aggressively taken from the opening whistle.

  5. 5 EaglesFan1 said at 9:36 AM on September 19th, 2015:

I completely agree it’s not a gimme but the chances of us winning should be much greater with those injuries.

  6. 6 SteveH said at 1:58 AM on September 19th, 2015:

If we lose this game we’re putting ourselves in a really shitty situation, and it definitely signifies that we’re not in the elite tier of teams yet. If we come out and put a thumping on the ‘Boys, that’s a good sign, but we if we struggle again, this might be portending a long season.

  7. 7 Media Mike said at 5:46 AM on September 19th, 2015:

A positive of an up and down season, especially from giving up too many X plays in the pass game due to poor coaching, would be an elimination of Billy Davis from the coaching staff.

  8. 8 SteveH said at 9:21 AM on September 19th, 2015:

I doubt Chip would make a move midseason, unless thing’s got really out of hand.

Honestly I think we still lack the personnel to have a strong (top 10) defense. We have some amazing pieces (Cox, Alonso, Barwin) but we desperately need an elite rusher off the edge, and we’re still a mishmash at safety and corner.

  9. 9 Allen3000 said at 9:33 AM on September 19th, 2015:

Agreed. Barring extremely poor play and regression on D, Billy’s job should be safe for this year. However, if we don’t finish at least in the top 20 this year, Billy needs to be canned. It would be his 8th season as a DC without a single top 20 Defense. At some point, the blame has to go to the coach.

  10. 10 EaglesFan1 said at 9:39 AM on September 19th, 2015:

Absolutely agree with the elite rusher statement. I’m fine with mirrored safeties but I think every 3-4 defense needs a stud that can come off the edge.

  11. 11 Media Mike said at 5:29 PM on September 19th, 2015:

For the record, I agree the time to hire/fire is after all 16 (or 17 or 18) games have concluded.

  12. 12 unhinged said at 12:17 PM on September 20th, 2015:

If this season goes 18 games, I would venture folks will get hired off of this team staff before anybody gets fired.

  13. 13 unhinged said at 12:15 PM on September 20th, 2015:

I wholeheartedly endorse the idea that we need a freakish edge rusher. This strikes me as the biggest missing piece on this defense, AND it may prove to be the toughest to obtain. I cannot think of one franchise that would pass up an opportunity to land a playmaking, difference making OLB. And when I ponder what Justin Houston is costing KC, I wonder how far GM Chip will be willing to go to get it done.

    That was so bad.

  17. 17 Allen3000 said at 7:45 AM on September 19th, 2015:

I just need to see the ground game get going. If Murray and Matthews get shut down for a 2nd week in a row then Chip is in my doghouse!

I do expect better execution this week. There will still be some rust, but I expect to see a more disciplined & inspired team.

  18. 18 GEAGLE said at 10:32 AM on September 19th, 2015:

I can accept Gettimg shutdown. But for me it’s how we get shut down… If we just run our normal plays and can’t get a run game going Ill be pissed… If we are going to have our run shut down, we better get more creative then that… If we struggle to run, before we abandon it, I want to see us go unbalanced line, Celek in the game, Tobin in the game as the Jumbo TE, line up with all your beef and try to Power your way thru the defense. Heck put Friggin Brandon Graham at FB if you have too… Punch someone in the mouth please!!!!.. If our run game doesn’t work sunday, I will need to see chip get a tittle creative before abandoning it alltogether

  19. 19 mksp said at 11:19 AM on September 19th, 2015:

So strange to have Dallas week so soon in the season… That coupled with a short week.

OL needs an opportunity to take over LOS this week and display our newly acquired ability (or so I hope) to shorten the game.

  25. 25 Dan in Philly said at 7:51 AM on September 19th, 2015:

  26. 26 Media Mike said at 7:52 AM on September 19th, 2015:

If they win the other 3 games vs. the NFC South. I still have “par” for the season at 11-5, a division win, and win of a home playoff game before losing on the road in the next round.

    4-2 division
3-1 vs. NFC South (need to flip New Orleans to a win now)
3-1 vs AFC East (Don’t see a win in New England)
    1-1 vs. Arizona and Detroit.

I had so much confidence in this team coming into the season… Now I’m sitting here wondering if we’re going to be able to put together a complete game and beat the ‘Boys. Just really surprising to see us come out in the opener that way. If we lost strait up but played pretty sharp, that’s one thing, but to be so sloppy… That’s just surprising, the only word for it. We SHOULD be able to beat the ‘Boys without Dez, there’s really no excuse for it if we don’t.

  38. 38 GEAGLE said at 10:24 AM on September 19th, 2015:

Wouldn’t you rather lose because you were sloppy in week 1, instead of your best not being good enough to win? Your best is your best, sloppy can be cleaned up..
    .
Not to mention when you have so many new faces, week 1 is NOT going to be q true indication of the team you will see in November/December…. REm ember the first 4 weeks of the 2013 season, culminating with the ass whooping at the hands of Denver? after they had a chance to gel in 4/5 games it was all down hill from there and we went on to have a great run all the way into the playoffs..
    ..
What you saw in Atlanta is just a starting point. If you believe in the coaching ours boys get, we will improve… Even if we destroy the Cowboys tomorrow, we shouldn’t be as great as what we see after we had 4,5,6 games to come togetner and gel.
    ..
Be easy,,,,, doubt the sky is falling in seattle, Indianapolis and Baltimore…

  39. 39 anon said at 11:37 AM on September 19th, 2015:

question is why were we so sloppy, still getting gashed by the same stunts that have been gashing the line for years, you’d think since we play 2x-3x the reps of other teams in TC we’d be super sharp first game. i think we were just smelling our own shit and atl came out w/ a chip on their shoulder.

some coaches play mind games w/ their players i don’t think ck does, but wonder what his speeches are like

  40. 40 GEAGLE said at 11:48 AM on September 19th, 2015:

Hardly the only sloppy team week 1, and starting the season a little sloppy may be the trade off for keeping guys in bubble wrap all summer to go into the season healthy… And there is also the small detail of your QB not playing a game in two years.,, all things considered, one half of sloppy ball is an acceptable cost for doing business… The teams we se win superBowls every febuary aren’t the same teams we we see in September. Dominance in September had never won a SB… The teams that improve the most over the year and plays its best in January win… Win or lose w k 1, won’t matter unless we continue to grow all year, and if we can’t overcome an 0-1 start, we have no business having Super Bowl dreams. Pretty certain that we are better then we saw in Atlanta

  41. 41 OregonDucker said at 12:13 PM on September 19th, 2015:

I don’t believe that there is such a thing as a “must win” in week 2.

That said, going to 0-2 with both losses against teams we may need to beat out to get a playoff spot while the Cowboys get to 2-0 playing w/o several key players who will be back later in the season, and losing our home game to them, would be about as bad a start to the season as we could have.

My prediction: we will win, but the concerns from last week (penalties, poor run blocking, torchable pass defense, lack of big plays in the passing game) will persist, and nobody will feel too great about it.

If last season is at all instructive, we stunk up the first half of Jacksonville game, but manged to win, in part because that team stinks. From there we got to 9-3 before the wheels started to come off. My self-serving theory about these no-show starts is that Chip is all about reacting to what the opponent is showing, and THEN he gets busy. For example, I don’t think we’ll ever see him calling run plays when the opponent is stacking the box. He waits and reacts. In the openers, his reaction is too sluggish, and his team follows suit. Cowboys in Philly is Kelly’s biggest game as Eagles HC to this point. If Eagles cannot display toughness and competence, his leash will tighten.

  62. 62 TXEaglesFan said at 11:20 AM on September 19th, 2015:

Just re watched the game and thought the safety tandem was the best thing we have seen since 2008. They did give up a few pass plays and a couple of broken tackles, but overall an encouraging performance. The oline was terrible in the first half. Obviously improved in the 2nd but Kelces holding penalty on the screen to Mathews on Next to last drive qualifies as bonehead play of the night. Bradford really process his reads fast. It looked like the Falcons when they got a chance to hit him were aiming low wrap up style. Look for that all year. And captain obvious, Maxwell was terrible. Another game like that and I would bench him for Rice to make a statement.

Players weren’t executing to my satisfaction in Atlanta, and I’m damn sure not going to excuse that and out it on the play callers, you can call the perfect play, but if 11 men don’t execute that play together it’s not going to work… For the most part if you go back and watch the game closely, the play calling was solid, but guys weren’t doing their job executing and the Front 7 and the secondary didn’t do a good job of communicating and playing together.. Front 7 wasn’t helping the secondar, corners weren’t helping the secondary jam the WR and give the pass rush an extra second to get home.., when Julio lined up Tight almost like a TE the LB didn’t help Maxwell and left him out to dry for the naked untrained eye to put all the blame on him, shooting ourselves repeatedly with dumb undacaplimes penalties… Our Players didn’t play good enough and execute for 60
Minutes.,. Even when we had the right play calls, the players didn’t execute like they are capable of… There are definitely some calls Billy Davis failed at and would like to have back, but the front 7 has been together for 3 years and the didn’t execute up to their ability and need to be held accountable for it

Can’t help but to wonder what a 2004 Eagles vs Steelers SB would have looked like, eliminating the element of us having to overcome cheating..

If what the steelers say is true, that’s some blatant cheating that had a tremendous impact on who won that AFC championship game..
    ..
There is NO legal way of preparation that gets you so well prepared that the defense is calling out the steelers offenses plays while steelers are still in the huddle, before Rothlisberger even got to relay the call to the guys in the huddle.., if that was the case, the ONLY way Pats could have accomplished that is tapping the communication. Between head coach and QB.. Basically it had to be like steelers coaches would relay the Plays to bIg Ben and the Pats coaches who then communicates it to Pats defense and they knew what the play was before the steelers even got out of the huddle… I wonder if the Refs who worked that game are all still working in the NFL or if any of that officiating crew retired.,,, if steelers players in the huddle heard that Pats were announcing their plays before returning Big Bem even announced the plays, the Refs should have noticed something fishy was going on when Pats were yelling out steelers plays while they were still in the huddle,,. If the ref is still am nfl employee today he would never admit it… But if the Refs retired already, may be able to get the Refs to admit what went on..
    ..
Once that game was over, you can bet the Ref crew heard the allegations from tne steelers so if the allegations were true, the refs would be able to look back on the game and confirm the Pats calling out all the steelers plays. It’s not uncommon for defense to call out the offenses play, but that happens by looking at the Formation once they BreAk the huddle and line up … If the Pats were calling out plays while steelers were still in tne
Huddle that means they Blatantly cheated and the Refs from that game should be able to accurately confirm or deny the steelers accusations

  85. 85 Allen3000 said at 11:54 AM on September 19th, 2015:

Eagles have lost 4 of their last 5 games. In that stretch, opposing teams have scored at least 24 points in each game. Opposing starting QBs have thrown on average 295 yds about 2 TDs. Some of these losses are against what should be inferior teams – Washington, NYG, ATL. These are disturbing trends that NEED to be reversed or at the very least minimized.

On offense, during the past 5 game stretch we have averaged less than 100 yards rushing a game which is unacceptable given the RB talent we have (both last year and this year).

It’s time to show and prove. I do think the Eagles win, but I’m not convinced we will see the team we were expecting to see this year – at least not on Sunday. I’m hoping to be utterly wrong though.

    5. running the damn ball because our tempo is supposed to gas the other team after the first half

  98. 98 Patrick said at 12:45 PM on September 19th, 2015:

This is a must win game in my mind, nothing else would be acceptable. Losing would be borderline detrimental.

Teams that start 0-2 have something like a 10% chance of making the playoffs, which isn’t bad, bud a loss would put the Cowboys 2 games ahead, all while sporting a 2-0 division record against our 0-2 with 0-1 in the division. The Redskins and Giants might look bad, but they’ll be bad against the Cowboys too.

With the amount of injuries the Cowboys have, specifically to Dez and their lines, it would be horrific if we couldn’t manage to beat them. They lost players at positions that mark our glaring weaknesses, Dez vs. Maxwell, Cowboys DL vs our OL and the Cowboys OLs ability to help Romo vs our defenses ability to pressure him into making mistakes.

After the shitshow in Atlanta, we need to play some good football. Get our offense going, stop making mistakes like penalties, whiffed blocks etc. and run the freaking ball. Seriously, we stole Murray from them, I want to see him run the ball down their throat so hard they’ll rejoice when its Mathews or Sproles who burns them.

Lastly, its the Cowboys. We dont lose to the fucking Cowboys, ever! Screw the record and everything else, dont fucking lose to the fucking Cowboys. I dont know how many times I have to say fuck to sound like Rex Ryan hyping up his team against the Patriots, just do not fucking lose to the fucking Cowboys, never fucking ever.

watching the game again I thought sammy b looked really good. Ball comes out really quickly and when he’s not getting pressured he’s really accurate. Not very accurate throwing while taking a shot, I feel like he could manage the pocket a little better.

One thing i did notice is that there were longer routes developing where maybe people would be open, but the ball is out long before that separation occurs, it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out tomorrow.

Run game looked bad, bad blocking and the falcons did a great job getting into gaps. Sproles jumps out for his ability to make people miss and to stay on his feel. Mathews was up and down, tripped on 2nd and 4 in the 4th quarter leading to 3rd and 1 sadly that was one of the plays that was blocked up well. Both Demarco and Ryan are good at stiff arming the first defender, remember all those games last year where shady could have had a big gain if he could have run over the safety, hopefully we see that this year.

I have tried waiting for last weeks DGR posted to talk about this, but it seems like the DGR won’t be posted til tomorrow and I’ll be,DAMNED if I talk about last week on Cowboy game day., So what I want to talk a little about how Atlanta attacked us, and what did they do that was successful that we will probably u see, dallas try to Mimick against us,
    .
give Kyle Shannahan his due, you can tell he was very familiar with our defense and he did some really good things that caused us trouble in The first half..
    ..
Something I expect a depleted Dallas to try and copy from Atlanta against us is the Falcons came out against us in a Heavy set, extra blockers, Fullback in the game looking like they were going to run the ball, and they passed against us out of their power run Packages.. What this did for the Falcons was pass against our Base which is designed more to stop the run. They passed on us when VINNY Curry and our better pass rushers were out of the game…
I think its Important that we bridge the gap between our pass rush out of our base defense, and our pass rush out of our Nickel.. The DISCREPENCY is too big, the Nickel pass rush package is significantly Better then pass rush in base, and Kyle Shannahan made it look LIke they were going to run the ball down our throat, and then attacking us with quick passes while curry and our best pass rush package was on the bench…
    ..
It’s a Copy Cat League, and without DEz, I need Billy Davis and the position coaches to have the defense, ready for Dallas copying Atlantas strategy and opening the game in their two TE, run formations keeping our Nickel pass rush off the field, and instead of pounding the ball, throwing a lot of quick passes out of their 2TE heavy sets…. Dallas is going to show run to start the game, but instead I expect them to throw early so that they can try to free up the RB’s instead of Vice Versa which is what they did when they still had Demarco.
    .
chip talked about a lactose intolerant secondar that doesn’t bite the cheese, so this sexondary needs to be prepared to not bite on play actions early when they are showing run but intend on attacking with quick passes
    ..
Something Kyle Shannahan also did with Julio that was a nightmare for us is he linned him up Tight to the formation almost like a TE.. Byron Maxwell got all the blame for Julios success, but our Linebackers held him out to dry not providing the proper support needed to help out on a stud Like Julio who is Linning up toght on the formation like he was on the inside where it’s tough for a corner to get a Jam on him… dallas probably isnt going to be able to trust T williams Linning up everywhere like Julio did, But the Coaches MUST HAVE our Boys prepared for Dallas opening up the game in two TEs showing run, but come out with quick passes against us…

  120. 120 GEAGLE said at 6:51 PM on September 19th, 2015:

I never said they weren’t…Dunbar is also a nice poor mans Sproles in the passing game… But if you need a LB Corp to matchup in coverage against 2 TEs and a pass catching RB, be hard to Find better tandem then Kiko and Barwin on the TEs with Kendricks matching up with Dunbar out of the backfield…eagle TEs have been raving about Kikos ability In coverage and all you have to do is watch what Barwin did against Jimmy Graham in the playoffs.
    ..
I would trust our LBs to match up against Witten,Esco and Dunbar
Significantly more then I would trust the Dallas LBs to match up against Ertz, Celek and Sprolesy.
    ..
mY expectation is that at the end of this season our numbers will say that we were one of the top defenses in the league
Defending against TEs.., this is the most excited I have been about our ability to cover TE’s since we had Carlos Emmons.. But that’s just me I guess

Gotcha…..Especially now without Dez they will certainly be a big part of the passing game plan and we will really have to watch the two TE closely when they get in the redzone
    ..
I’d really like to see us get up on the Line of scrimmage and see our Corners to do a great job of Jamming the WRs at the line… i get the impression that our front 7 still needs to Gel with the secondary. They need to do a better job helping each other
-First half in Atlanta, front 7 didn’t do our DBs any favors not getting enough pressure on Atlanta QB to help out the corners
-If the corner sees that our pass rush isn’t getting home, they need to do a better job at the line of scrimmage, Jam the WR and give the front 7 an extra second for the pressure to get home
-when Atlanta lined up Julio tight to the formation almost like a TE, the LBs have to give Maxwell support and they left him out to dry..
    ..
I understand it’s a new secondary but it has to gel more with the Front 7, those two units need to do a better job communicating and supporting each other.. improve and Gel each week and we should be ready to really take off in October

Plan of Attack, cowboy addition ..
    ..
    1) MONSTER 13 catches, 148 yard performance from Jordan Mathews. iTs set up perfectly for him to GO OFF!
    – fired up from giving up the INT last week to seal the game
    – Bradford who is still getting comfortable trusts Jordan
    – Matches up against Orlando Scandricks in over his head backup
    – sweet spot in the Tampa 2 scheme Dallas runs is the middle field aka The Land of Pope Jordan the 81st
    ..
    2) with a TOUGH Jets secondary on deck, Chip and Bradford need to take advantage of the fact that Morris Claiborne is a PIGEON waiting to be picked on in coverage to get Huff and Agholor going and build some confidence. Like to see us get Huff and Nelson some touches early in the game, as well as isolating Claiborne and taking some shots down field on him.. For Nelson and Huff:
    – Get the ball in their hands on some screens early on
    – like to see them get the ball on a reverse its or double reverse since its been a while that chip dialed up Gadget plays.. If Agholor can beat the defense to the edge and turn the corner, he could do some serious damage on a Reverse with those fast long stride he takes.
-If we get Claiborne Isolated on either, let them take a shot down field, even off play action will do
    .
    3) Sean Lee can play and dude has speed for a LB and the Cowboys aren’t wrong for liking him, but if they over rate Lee’s ability and think that Sean Lee can handle Darren Sproles with No safety help, we gots to make them pay for that.. Lee can be a great lightning fast LB, but putting any one LB in coverage against the Tiny Gangster Sproles is a BIG MISTAKE.. When another Lb is matched up in Sproles you can bet he will get safety help, so if we see Lee matched up against him, get ready to attack him because it’s probably man coverage with No double team.. My thinKing is if they have to spend resources double teaming Sproles, they will use one of the other LBs and safety over top and match up Lee one on one with a TE.. So if we see Lee on Sproles, take a shot because their probably won’t be safety support since Lee is the best and fastest LB the have, I assume they will think one of the other LBs will need help more then Lee does..
    .,
    4) getting back to the opening in the middle of the field the Tampa two coverage creates, normally that would be a tremendous opportunity for Ertz to attack but I worry about him. He rushed back from injury after only 4 weeks and isn’t 100% yet.. Im more concerned that Ertz
Doesn’t suffer a setback, then I am about him having a big game…
-Dallas safeties are nothing special, we need to attack the middle of that Tampa two all game, go down the seam early and often keeping the pressure on their safeties by continuing to throw different weapons at them down the seam. They aren’t the tallest safeties so give them a steady dose of size going after them. lIke to see Ertz, Burton and Miles Austin constantly attack down
    fIeld while Jordan and Sproles
Work underneath and use their extraordinary run after the catch talent
    ..
    5) What I’m REALLY looking for
Tomorrow is for chip to show his play calling Genius,, I want him to script a masterful plan of attack for the first 15-20 plays.
-every offensive coach will preach the importance of getting the offense off on a good a start, and it’s even more important for us to play well on offense early because wearing teams down with our tempo is a major component. Chip needs to script us a masterful start to this game picking up 6-10 First downs on the first two drives, our tempo will make an impact early, and if we can make them feel the effects of the tempo early while also getting out to a 10-14pt lead at home after the first 2 or 3 drives we are a bad team to have to play from behind against especially if we are picking up first downs instead of scoring on a quick bomb or punt return

Start the game throwing quick accurate Darts, then unleash the run game, ultimately setting up the Play action strikes down field
    ..
Really like to see this team coming off a loss, get off to a really good start at home on the first two drives, allowing us to play down hill from there,..It would be great to start the 4th quarter with a commanding Lead so we can work on learning to close out wins with our Physical Run game.. Be awesome to remove Bradford from danger and let him hand the ball off throughout the 4th quarter cruising to a division win..
    ..
We are at home, we are well coached, we have high charechter team that will enter this game with more talent then Dallas, #1 is ALWAYS getting out of the game healthy, but #2 this week is Putting an end to Hurting ourselves with penalties.. Force Dallas to try and beat us, if we don’t help them beat us, play a clean and disciplined game, at some point tomorrow we should run away with the game.

Think it will be more incremental stuff (your sour grapes) than a bombshell.

  133. 133 Avery Greene said at 8:14 PM on September 19th, 2015:

Yeah, this is my impression as well about the incremental stuff. With no evidence, this all seems useless. Unless there’s a movement behind the scenes to make Goodell look bad enough to get rid of.

I wonder what it’s like to be a fan of a professional football team that you KNOW is going to win every week, like the old 9ers with Montana or the boys with Emmit and Aikman. It might get boring…nah. One of these days with or without Chip maybe we’ll all know what true domination feels like.

  153. 153 BobSmith77 said at 1:05 AM on September 20th, 2015:

’04 was the only time I ever felt like that up until TO got hurt.

  154. 154 Media Mike said at 6:58 AM on September 20th, 2015:

That was honestly (sans the Pittsburgh debacle) my favorite season as an Eagles fan. WE just slapped teams on a weekly basis. Starting the season by blowing out the hated Giants was epic as well.

Roy Williams should die screaming of some type of horrible malady due to what he did to TO.

    And in case anybody else brings it up;
Reid’s lack of urgency, TO’s less than 100% status, McNabb’s being out of shape, McNabb’s dumb INT throwing the same Westbrook pass too many times in the first half, Hank Fraley’s inability to call out appropriate blitz pickups, Hugh Douglas (and the rest of the DLine) refusing to get a pass rush going, and putrid LB play covering the RBs on short swing passes were all much bigger factors in losing that game than any possible funny business with the Patriots recording d signals.

  155. 155 P_P_K said at 9:55 AM on September 20th, 2015:

And the buzz of winning never got boring.

“Before getting into our predictions — and because you’re likely going to think

we’re all homers — it’s worth noting that nine out ofthe 10 writers at The Dallas Morning News picked the Eagles over the Cowboys. And of those nine, eight pick the Eagles to cover.

Meanwhile, over at The Philadelphia Inquirer, both Jeff McLane and Zach Berman picked the Birds to win. And at Bleeding Green Nation, all seven of their writers like the Eagles. Not surprisingly, however, eight of the 10 writers at BGN’s Dallas counterpart, Blogging the ‘Boys, picked the Cowboys.”

Kempski, Hoffman, and Mullin all predict an Eagles’ victory too, 11 of 14 ESPN experts are taking the Eagles, and the line has been steadily moving all week so a ton of betters do too.

In defense of hinkie & embid, it isn’t fair to compare rates of healing, taking a more prudent path with someone starting their career vs a more urgent one for someone nearing the end, someone who runs on turf vs someone who runs on a court. All impact decisions.
