When it has the right combination of coach and QB, a franchise can special, maybe even for a long time. Sean Payton and Drew Brees have been that duo for the Saints for a decade now. The Eagles had that combination in Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb. Chip Kelly is still trying to find his soulmate, so to speak.

I have enjoyed the Saints from afar. Payton is a good coach and I’ve always admired his offense. I don’t see how you can dislike Brees. He’s a great player, great leader and just seems like a good guy. Wins and offensive records have been commonplace for the past 10 seasons.

The one thing Payton and Brees can’t battle is time, and that is catching up with them. While the Saints led the NFL in yards last year, they only finished 7-9 and that was playing in the very weak NFC South. This year the Saints are 1-3. They even needed overtime to get that win against a depleted Dallas team.

Brees has a shoulder injury and that has affected his arm strength. He missed one game, but then played really well last week in the win over Dallas. Brees couldn’t throw the ball deep, but completed 80 percent of his passes and ran a terrific ball-control attack.

I don’t know what to make of the Saints right now. Take away the OT score from Sunday and they have 2 more points than the Eagles this year. Sam Bradford has more TD passes than Brees. I know Brees missed a game, but Bradford has struggled mightily and still has more. The Saints run game is only slightly better than the Eagles. And they’ve given up more sacks.

The Saints have made changes in recent years. Gone are guys like Darren Sproles, Jimmy Graham, Kenny Stills and Lance Moore. Brandin Cooks has been disappointing to this point. Marques Colston remains, but age has caught up with him. C.J. Spiller made a huge play Sunday and that might be the thing that gets him going.

The O-line isn’t what it used to be. LT Terron Armstead is banged up right now. RG Jahri Evans isn’t the dominant blocker he once was.

As for the defense, I still firmly believe the one huge mistake Sean Payton made was hiring Rob Ryan. He got the defense to play really well in 2013, but it was awful last year and isn’t much better this season.

As Chip Kelly explained, Ryan runs a very complex defense and loves to mix things up. He designs exotic blitzes and mixes in conservative coverages as well. The blitzes will work from time to time, but also will get burned. Right now the Saints don’t have a great secondary. It doesn’t seem like they’ve been the same since losing Malcolm Jenkins.

To be fair, they did have some players coming off injury last week. Maybe this group will settle down and start playing at a high level. I just don’t anticipate that happening.

CB Brandon Browner is a penalty machine. CB Delvin Breaux rarely looks back to play the ball and could be called for a penalty on a regular basis. Jairus Byrd has struggled with injuries since coming to New Orleans. Right now the Saints have a pair of rookies at LB. Hau’oli Kikaha is a good pass rusher, but is raw. MLB Stephone Anthony is big and athletic. Both guys can make plays, but also have rookie moments. Cameron Jordan is a very talented DE. Two other DEs are undrafted rookies. The Saints traded a player recently to create salary cap room. You just don’t hear stuff like that during the season.

The kicking game is less than ideal. Their punter is hurt. The kicker missed a chip shot to win last week. Returner Marcus Murphy has a KOR for a TD and a long punt return.

In some ways, the Saints feel like a slightly different version of the Eagles.

One of these teams is going to come up with a big win on Sunday. The winner is 2-3 and right back in the mix. The loser falls to 1-4 and sees the season slipping away. In the past, I would have favored the Saints without a whole lot of doubt. Both of these teams are struggling.

It won’t shock me to see either team pull this out.

*****

As for the Eagles and injuries…too early to tell. Chip wouldn’t commit to anything at his PC today. Lane Johnson is determined to play. If Jason Peters can’t go, Johnson may slide over to LT. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. The OL has enough issues. Having multiple guys move around doesn’t sound good.

I find it really interesting that Chip is considering Johnson at LT. Is this the end of Jason Peters? If Peters was likely to heal, one would think that Tobin starts at LT with Kelly at RG.

I hope it’s not the case this soon, but we all knew Lane’s long term spot was at LT.

  2. 2 Media Mike said at 5:20 AM on October 8th, 2015:

If their best 5 (with Peters out) is with Johnson at LT, then I’m happy to be able to judge how Lane plays in that position. This should be a week that you can get away with that by giving Peters an additional week to rest if you need to.

  3. 3 Anders said at 5:59 AM on October 8th, 2015:

Problem might be judging Johnson at LT with a bum knee.

I do prefer Tobin at LG or LT over him playing the right side

  4. 4 D3FB said at 8:22 AM on October 8th, 2015:

He did suprisingly well last week, and I’m a big fan, but you don’t want Tobin playing more than situationally at LT.

They did a good job of giving him some help, and he did a good job quick setting the edge players last week, but if we get in situations where he has to one on one versus a rusher with his ears pinned back, Sam is gonna get crushed.

Barbre has been really bad. If Peters is out, I would go with:

    Lane-Tobin-Kelce-Kelly-Barbre

    or
    Lane-Tobin-Kelce-Vandervelde-Kelly

I really liked Stephone Anthony pre-draft, he flies around the field and can get out of control at times and just rely on his athleticism. If he can get coached up well, he could be stud

Is Andrus Peat playing for them at all? I think two starters are out on the o-line and i think i remember him on the bench sunday night

  6. 6 Media Mike said at 5:19 AM on October 8th, 2015:

Peat is rumored to be starting at LT. If that doesn’t get Brandon Graham on track, I don’t know what will.

  7. 7 Mr. Magee said at 12:31 AM on October 8th, 2015:

Safe to say Tommy doesn’t think much of the Saints… Could be a good week for the offense to get going and build some confidence (injuries notwithstanding). If it doesn’t happen, it will solidify the reality that this group is having significant trouble “executing” Chip’s offense.

  8. 8 Poppi said at 6:36 AM on October 8th, 2015:

I think is too hard to tell about the offense because the OL is so awful and apparently getting worse. Maybe we will see some fire from the backups.

Was watching some film of Connor Cook last night and liked what I saw. Really tough and has good field awareness. More than one good QB prospect in this draft.

  12. 12 Anders said at 3:21 AM on October 8th, 2015:

I hope we for once comes out guns blazing on offense and force the Saints into bad situations, because Brees will tear the defense apart underneath if given the time, so we need quick pressure, focus on underneath coverage and do not miss tackles

  13. 13 Media Mike said at 5:18 AM on October 8th, 2015:

The horrible performance vs. the Saints in the 2013 playoff game by our D is burned into my head. I share your fear on Brees / Payton vs. Davis.

  14. 14 Anders said at 5:57 AM on October 8th, 2015:

The defense has improved 10 fold since and the Saints offense has declined alot, but if Kirk “fucking” Cousins and Brandon Weeden can dink and dunk, so can Brees on a bum shoulder

  15. 15 GEAGLE said at 8:02 AM on October 8th, 2015:

Lol not as funny as Greg Hardy saying he wants to come out guns blazing the first time he had a microphone in his face.,. To make matters worse he started to run his mother about Brady’s the ice and her sister… Lol when Jerry Jones was asked in an interview about what Greg Hardy said, his first 3 words were literally “oh my God” … I laughed for like half hour

Anybody else have a bad feeling that the O gets on track this week, but we lose anyway because Sean Payton / Drew Brees carve up Billy Davis in the same way that happened in the 2013 playoff game?

  18. 18 MS said at 5:53 AM on October 8th, 2015:

Nope. If the O gets on track I think it’s a blowout for the Birds.

I’m sure there are a lot of bad feelings out there. 😉

  20. 20 Poppi said at 6:33 AM on October 8th, 2015:

My really bad feeling is that we burden the defense with being on the field 40 plus minutes, defending 80 plays (again), can’t make a kick (again), and the makeshift OL can’t block (again).

  21. 21 ChoTime said at 11:01 AM on October 8th, 2015:

Great. Now for sure this is going to happen. 10 yard gain after 10 yard gain, marching unstoppably towards the end zone. We will finally stop them around the 18 yard line, but Curry will fall for a hard count and give them a fresh set of downs. After being on the field for 90% of the game, the D will finally tire at the end and we’ll lose by half a point.

  35. 35 Avery Greene said at 10:07 AM on October 8th, 2015:

This is probably why they are struggling as a team.

I’m not too down on Chip the GM, because outside of the offensive line (the most glaring weakness) the other moves have helped out. The defense is absolutely better mostly because of the changes he made in the secondary. The offense has flashes but lack consistency, but if the line plays better we are not complaining about Chip the GM anymore.

well, jury still out on DM, Bradford and Kiko….

  37. 37 Avery Greene said at 10:46 AM on October 8th, 2015:

I just posted a tweet above. DM has met contact at or behind the LOS on 21 of 29 runs. I can’t totally blame him for the failure up front.

Kiko is injured and we knew he was when we brought him in. Seems like that trade is going to be a wash with injuries.

I really liked what I saw out of SB last week. 15 of 28 passing doesn’t sound great. But there were more than a few dropped passes. Considering he hasn’t played in 2 years, he looks to be shaking off the rust nicely. But you’re right, the jury is still out. If he’s still inconsistent Week 8, then yeah it’s bad.

Careful there. Getting rid of DeSean and Maclin are a big part of the problem. Their ability has not been replaced, and the attempt to replace it has cost lots of picks.

  42. 42 bill said at 1:10 PM on October 8th, 2015:

Ha. “Got rid of” a guy you offered big money to. I’ll have to remember that euphemism.

  43. 43 ChoTime said at 2:04 PM on October 8th, 2015:

He didn’t offer enough, he got rid of him. It’s his job to put good players on the field and he has plenty of cash. He squandered it in the wrong places. Actually that will become far more apparent in the next year or two.

  44. 44 EAGLES said at 3:24 PM on October 8th, 2015:

He can cut Maxwell and Murray after two years. By then he can replace them. I think he has a legit plan in place that is built around finding a franchise qb and building through the draft. His first draft looks excellent. I feel like these guys are holdovers. And I also feel if his objective is to get a franchise qb, tanking a year wouldn’t be so bad if the end result is a shot at a qb and of course we’d have high picks the rest of the draft. That is the goal according to him and Jeffrey Lurie, so….. Usually the only way to acquire one is early in the draft. Though we had a shot at Bridgewater and Carr among others, Foles was our guy at the time. And deservedly so. I mostly fault Chip for the o-line but he’s not lying saying lots of o-line guys were taken quick. The Buccaneers took Ali Marpet and Donovan Smith in the 2nd round alone and they’re both starting right now. It sucks. Herremans is benched and Mathis has been inconsistent from what I hear. Our depth sucks, Chip better go heavy there next year. I bet he will. Great defensive back draft next year though.

  45. 45 EAGLES said at 3:28 PM on October 8th, 2015:

Oh and Sanchez was signed two years as a failsafe for Bradford. I think Chip should swallow his pride and just tank a year. Especially if there’s good qb’s to be had the next year. He wants to win now but it might not be possible. Bradford deserves a shot to play behind a good line and have a run game before he’s judged harshly. Give him what Foles had in 2013 then we’ll talk.

  46. 46 GEAGLE said at 8:28 AM on October 8th, 2015:

We are in week 5, I have no idea why the media keeps asking chip if he thinks he has the right players and they rip him when he says yes… Like are they kidding, do they actually expect chip to completely throw his players under the bus in the week 5? You think this is a disaster? Nothing would cubicle tell destroy this franchise worst than chip telling the media that he thinks these players aren’t good enough.. How can even the dumbest of media members not understand that even if deep down chip actually believes that, nothing would destroy this franchise more than if chip would say that..
    ..
And now the media is blown away that he actually admitted yesterday that his play calling also has to improve, but chip always talks about self scouting and has said that he need r to call plays better all the time when we struggle so I’m never t sure why the media is so surprised…
    ..
When the media asks chip if the offense is the problem, that’s a very different question than if play calling is q problem, do while media keeps badgering chip about if this offens is a problem, him answering that he has to do a better job of play calling,,, a problem that the offense would mean he has to trash the entire offense, needing to do better in play calling only means that he needs to pick the plays better, but those plays come from the Same offens which is not and issue, so I don’t understand acting like its some grand revelation that chip said he has to call plays Better, that is soooo not the same ae him admitted that he has to pick better plays in certain situations..

There is some shit chip can’t publically say even if he wants to, how does the media not understand this and continue to rip chip because he won’t completely crash n burn this franchise by publically admitting that his players aren’t good enough in week 5 which is the most destructive thing chip could ever say?

  47. 47 Gary Barnes said at 9:13 AM on October 8th, 2015:

His harping on execution was a dodge and so it was good to hear him finally take some accountability for what he can do better to help the team win. Every coach dodges questions and twists the truth to protect themselves, their players, their coaches, the organization etc. We all understand that, but it was tiresome to have Chip hammer away at execution when it was clear as day that the play calling, scheme and personnel were also issues and were hampering the ability to execute.

  48. 48 GEAGLE said at 12:25 PM on October 8th, 2015:

Sorry Pal, but that’s just an uneducated crock of shit. Chips press conference this morning should clear up this bullshit for you. Anyone who understands the technical nuances of what is required and takes the time to see why plaus didn’t work can easily see that it’s straight up execution problem.. Of course there will always be play calls that a coach wants back, but when our 11 players r route and beat their man, this offense works like a charm

  51. 51 xeynon said at 9:24 AM on October 8th, 2015:

Glad to hear it, but it’s not a surprise. Chip’s a good coach and a very smart, rational guy – he’ll self-scout and figure out where his weaknesses are.

Unfortunately, it’s mostly Chip the GM I have an issue with. It may be because he doesn’t want to lose his players by telling the media they suck, but it seems like he may still have a blind spot when it comes to assessing his own ability to evaluate talent.

  52. 52 EaglesFANqq said at 10:48 AM on October 8th, 2015:

  54. 54 xeynon said at 9:17 AM on October 8th, 2015:

Not to oversell the importance of it, but I think this game has the chance to be a huge turning point, not only for this season but for the entire Kelly regime. If they win, and especially if they win impressively, they’re still in the hunt. If they get bounced, and the offense again looks horrid under the most favorable possible circumstances (at home, team with an awful defense, etc.) a miracle becomes necessary for them to have any shot at playing meaningful late season football and the season becomes a death march. At that point I think there’s a real risk of the kind of dissension in the ranks Billick was talking about because while they may respect him (for now), I don’t get the sense that Chip’s players love him and will go down fighting for him the way they would for a “players’ coach” like Reid or Rex Ryan. NEVER thought I’d say this about this season but I see a genuine possibility for the wheels to completely fall off (as in 4-12 dumpster fire, team quits, coach gets fired fall off) here.

For reference though, Riley at the top, circled in yellow is supposed to be on the line. And, the slot WR, I think it’s Huff is supposed to be off the line. The slot guy is clearly a yard behind Cooper, even though the angle obscures if a bit. Look at Huff’s back foot. It’s on the 14 yard line and his front foot is on the 13. Cooper’s back foot is on the 13 yard line with his front foot on the 12. Now look at Agholar’s. Back foot on the 13 and front foot on the 12. He’s right in line with the TE and Olinemen.

You can’t look at the blue line. He’s not supposed to be right on the blue line to be considered on the line. Just like all the linemen. The front hands of the olinemen are all on the 12 yard line with their feet on the 13. Even though the LOS is the 11. Agholar should be a yard back.

    some ‘fun’ facts:

The Eagles average just 3.8 yards per play in the first half of games, fewest in the league.

Philadelphia averages just 23.9 yards per possession, fewest in the league while New Orleans is allowing 39.2 yards per opponent’s drive, highest in the league.

The Saints have allowed a rushing touchdown is six straight games, longest streak in the league.

    3rd round Josh Huff

  116. 116 peteike said at 10:57 AM on October 8th, 2015:

“The Boston Herald took a deep dive on the frequency with which New England has been rotating its offensive line, and it’s unlike anything else you’ll find in football.

Through their first 30 offensive possessions this year, the Patriots have rolled out nine offensive-line combinations (not including kneels to end halves), and they deployed a 10th unique combination on goal-line packages against the Jaguars that resulted in three LeGarrette Blount rushing touchdowns. Against the Steelers in Week 1, they didn’t begin consecutive possessions with the same offensive-line combination until the sixth and seventh possessions.

Most of these rotations have come at the guard position. Three linemen have taken a lot of snaps on both sides of the line, which — again — is quite unlike what other teams do. Josh Kline has played 10 series at left guard and 14 at right; Shaq Mason has played 20 at left guard; and Tre’ Jackson has played 16 at right guard. Only David Andrew, the team’s center, has played all snaps.”

Interesting and worth trying with this mess at O line. Although doing this with rookies could differ from just bad players.

“this rotation is inevitably causing opposing defenses to prepare not just for different packages, but also for different combinations of linemen within one individual package and within different packages.”

    ..
I don’t wish serious injuries on human beings, but if he got hurt and could never play again, I would feel like he got what he deserved..
    ..
this man has NEVER shown any remorse. It’s disgusting that Ray Rice who has apologized in every way humanly possible and is obviously trying to be a better man has been black balled, while this piece of shit gets to continue to play football after he made almost 20milliom over the course of his suspension. ..
just the simple fact that he said something that JerryJones is already having to answer questions about makes him a Moron.., when you get a second chance, your teammates, coaches and Front office people better not have to answer questions about your actions.. Unlike Ray Rice, Hardy was lucky that he got to keep all his money, like 13mil Collected from panthers for sitting home all year, this crumb even had his suspension reduced by more than 50% and at no point has he shown any remorse and still doesn’t take responsibility for how he terrorized that woman…. Which is all way worse than this idiots stupid gun blazing talk after guns were involved in the terrorizing of his woman victim, not to mention the heightened sensitivity because of all the horrible gun problems involving Children in our schools.., and under no circumstances do you talk about another mans wife.. I don’t care if you are Bart Scott saying you think his wife is hot as a compliment, keep the mans wife out of your mouth….
    ..
And that doesn’t even include that getting Brady and the patriots fires up with your mouth has historically proven to be a terrible idea.,if the Bills thought Brady and the Pats were trying to embarress them, it should be fun to see what Brady does to this Dallas team in Jerry world

cHarles Haily has been working and training with Greg Hardy and has Raved about his work ethic, talent and the shape he is in, but as talented as Hardy is, Charles Haily warned Hardy that no matter what good shape he is in and how ready he is, after missing the last 20 games he can’t expect to be his dominant self right away.. Haily talked about how after this type of layoff you have to expect t that it’s going to take time to shake off the rest and be able to play to your full potential, and that Hardy can’t get discouraged when he sees that he has a long way to go before he can shake the rust and get back to playing at his level,,
    ..
And we are talking about a man who missed less time than our starting QB, and who hasn’t had to overcome significant injuries like our QB has had to do while he had been missing so much game time, and unlike Bradford, Hardy had reached the pinnacle of the sport as far as being one of the best players in the game at his position:., playing DE, isn’t even close to the difficulty of playing QB..
    ..
Just to put things in perspective, no excuses, but genuine real life factors that we can take some hope from that our QB is still capable of showing a lot of improvement as plays more games and gets more comfortable..
    ..
sam needs to be better, but there is no doubt he is capable of still showing a lot of improvement before he maxes out his talent.. I have No idea how great he can become, but i am convinced that he is capable of so much more than what we have seen., which makes me appreciate how under so much fire from every direction, Chip hasn’t been quick to bring Sanchez off the bench..I was a fan of coach Bill Obriem, but seeing what he is doing In Houston, makes me appreciate that Chip is smart enough to stay the course in the face of adversity and pressure.. Developing Bradford and Keeping him healthy For a multi year stretch of games is still by far the single most important thing for this franchise…I think what Bill Obrien is doing, flip flopping QBs like 8 times already in the first month of the season and I feel like that’s extremely amateurish and I thought Bill Obrien was a better coach than that:..
    ..,
i would rather miss the playoffs this year, with Bradford taking every single snap at QB all year, staying healthy and going into the offseason Healthy, rather than see Bradford get hurt again, be In and out of the lineup and see Samchez win us a play off game…. hopefully it won’t come down to this “either or” scenario and we see Bradford stay healthy and atart the get hot, and lead us to some 2013 hot streak winning us the division after a 1-3 start…
    ..
But developing Bradford and keeping him healthy this entire year is still the most important thing for the next 3-4 years of this franchise, and I’m appreciative that under way more pressure than OBriem, chips
Confidence in his convictions hasn’t waivered… Change for the sake of change is never the answer, some times having the strength to stay the course is what’s best to dig our way out of an ugly hole..

    ..
The quickest path possible to having a QB good enough to win anything that can make this city happy is keeping Bradford healthy over a stretch of 3-4 years and coach Him up and put him in a good enough situation to help Bradford finally realize his full potential….. Bradford has all the tools, he is just in need of serious continuity both playing against NFL defenses, continuity playing in the same offense, with the same players in order to even have a chance to consistently see him play to the best of his ability.,,, the kid finally is starting to look like he can actually stop worrying about whether he can get thru NFL games and you are ready to Piss away his talent and upside after seeing the kid play 4 games in the past 2 years? wtf man?
    .,.
I can promise you one thing.. If you make decisions to discard
QBs after you see them play 4 games, you will end up waiting 3 decades to find a QB to move forward with… I could understand if we are seeing the best Bradford is capable of and feel he is a maxed out talent, but we haven’t even been close to seeing that yet…,, Sanchez, who looks worse the more he has to play, who didn’t show any year 2 growth this preseason that we would hope to see in a returning QB is what you want to give up on Bradford for?

I would be willing to see a really bad season to see Chip gone.
Chip Kelly isn’t worth patience. He got rid of Pro Bowlers and a franchise QB (Herremans, Mathis, Maclin, McCoy, and Foles[and a 2nd round pick]). No coach would do stupid stuff like this. Many coaches would’ve loved to have these players. Not many coaches have this luxury. Chip did, but he blew that away.

We have right players my arse Chip! If he really thinks that, he’s f’ing clueless. If Eagles have right players, Why are Eagles 1-3? Can you answer that Chip? He talks about culture yet he doesn’t want to work with his colleagues. I had enough of him.

I don’t know about better, what about Jennifer Welter? I would have more faith in her than I would Chip. It would be worth it to give her a shot. She knows how to be a team player, would actually work with other Eagles personnel, probably will listen to players unlike Chip, she wouldn’t think she’s above anyone, might actually put players/team in a position to win games, and not make stupid moves.

Best case scenario: If she works out, they found their coach for next several years. Worst case scenario: If she doesn’t do well, Eagles can always get someone else at head coach next season. It wouldn’t be a waste of time to bring her in. Eagles would have nothing to lose. Low risk/high reward move.

Lurie: PLEASE let misery end and fire Chip Kelly. No Eagles fans want Chip to ruin this team even further. While you’re at it, fire Billy Davis as well.

Eeiry how similar their situation is right now compared to the years before they got Lindros.

Their biggest problem is that the NHL has priced itself out of the range of most fans. The Flyers are advertising ‘$49 tickets’ to select games as a value.

I’ll take my dad to a game or two but that is only because I’ll buy tickets from a friend & they are good seats. Season ticket holders also get a pretty decent discount off face value. Not quite 20% but close to it on the lower level in the first 20 rows.

With That said, I wouldn’t mind having a quick, smaller CB in our stable of DBs like Brandon Boykin for times when opponents come to town with smaller WRs like Brandin Cooks/Phillip Dorsett types,,
    ..
So far, Cooks isn’t showing the year two leap one of would expect, hopefully we do not allow this to be his breakout game..
    ..
If Cooks has a quiet game and Jordan Mathews produces more than his Muse, Marques Colston, it should give our offense a decent chance at producing more than their saints counterparts unless we see q major discrepancy between their RB production and our lack of RB production..,
    ..
Hard to have faith in our OL getting the run game going when we are so banged up with injuries, fortunately the saints OL is also pretty banged up and is ripe for our front 7 having a big game against the saints OL assuming that we aren’t missing 3 of our 7 Defensive Lineman.. It probably wasn’t talked about enough, but only having 4 healthy defensive lineman in the skins game was a pretty bad disadvantage. One of the strengths of this team is the DEEP DL rotation allowing us to throw fresh beasts against offenses all game.. I’m sure having half your DL rotation out had to have some type of fatigue effect on our defensive front Late in the skins game…
    :,
When the OL can’t get a first down, we all know it puts a strain on our defense that has hurt us all season, so I’m sure being short half of our rotation had to take some serious wind out of our sails during that last drive…

Malcolm Jenkins really said it best:.., he talked about how even tho this start has not gone even close to how we wanted it to go, “there is Nothing that we set out to do this year that’s still not in front of us and attainable”.,
    ..
As bad as this start has been, that really is the truth. Of course as fans we hope to see our team dominate the League each and every week, but when we look at season goals that actually matter, what’s really important this year?
    ,.
    1) Keeping Sam healthy so he can start to get the continuity needed to finally realize his full potential now that his rookie contract is coming to an end..

    2) Win the NFC EAST… 1 game out of first place in a division where:
    A) Cowboys can be in the beginning of an ugly losing streak that isn’t going to end any time soon
    B) GIants look to be in the driver seat right now but I love how we matchup against them these last couple of years
    C) Washington is far from an unbeatable juggernaut and losing Jordan Reed to his 7th concussion should prove to be a monster loss for their
    Passing game
    .,
    3) Win a playoff game…. One silver lining of this mess that we are experiencing. For a new team that still needs to Gel into a quality team, if we can endure such a terrible start, overcome it and get control of this division while hobbling into the bye week, for a new team like this, overcoming so much early adversity can really be HUGE in EXPEDITING our Gelling Process,. We can either crumble to the adversity, or we can overcome the adversity and use it as a spring board to grow into the team that reflects all the talent we have and gets these players to play to their full potential..
    ….
So Malcolm Jenkins is completely right! All old goals are still only a 1 game difference away, and this division will NEVER be weaker, so as bad as its been Malcolm is also correct that it really makes no sense to be walking around Novacare with a bad attitude all week and we should actually be excited and hungry because of the opportunity we have that we are still very much in the hunt for this division…. All our important goals are still completely in our grasp…

But I do worry that this next stretch of games before the bye week is Crucial, need to win atleast 2 of 3, and The one loss can’t be to the Giants… With so many new players we are getting to know, and all types of injuries, we sure are about to find out how Tough these players are, how much heart do these players have… We are going to find out a lot about these new players.. Who will tap out? And who will step up and be a thug like Lane Johnson who plans on grinding it out and playing on a MCL and Amkle sprain?

When we reach the bye week, we are going to have learned a ton about this brand new Eagles team

  276. 276 Tumtum said at 7:45 PM on October 8th, 2015:

I would love to see Kelly come out this week with a different look on offense. Maybe go with the long ball a little bit more early. When the offense has clicked that has been the catalyst. Maybe run the ball a little differently than he has before. Just give the defense looks they haven’t seen. Maybe even slow the tempo down as McManus suggested at phillymag.

We are 1-3 and haven’t had much success. I think now is the time to start being the mad scientist everyone thinks he is.

This sport is becoming unwatchable with all the penalties.
-There were 129 plays with 20 penalties. That’s a penalty on 15% of the plays.
-Colts only had 323 yards. They had another 125 in penalty yards.

I’d love to do a stat of how many plays per commercial, but I’d probably blow my brains out. So glad hockey is bacl.

Still don’t know if it’s true that Huff is in the dog house because he can’t shut his mouth when the media is trying to get him to run his mouth..
    ..
But it’s time to get Josh Huff going, we need a spark.
    .
I’d like to see us Lineup in a 2back set with Sproles and Huff as the RBs, send Sproles in motion having him lineup in the slot to the Left side while Huff remains at RB.. Send Sproles on a drag route or some decoy Route that will take defendwrs away from the left side of the field, fake the Reverse to Agholar, while Huff runs a wheel route down the left sideline that Sproles helped clear out for him, hopefully a LB or Safety will be on huff since he was lined up in the backfield instead of a corner… Simple pitch n catch even for Braindead huff, hopefully Bradford gets it to him in stride and we are off to the races…
    ..
I get the feeling that the game is close to slowing down for Agholar and we will soon start to see him get it going, but we really need to start getting something out of Huff…. Obviously we would have liked to see a big year two leap out of the kid, but that hasn’t happened yet, but that doesn’t neccessarily mean that he won’t get it going…. think we,have to make an effort to dail up some plays giving him a chance at a Homerun in hopes that it will get him going and he can start showing the year 2 improvement we need to see.
    ..

I just hope the game is slowing down for Bradford. I think Ags would be fine with more consistent QB play

  368. 368 GEAGLE said at 9:37 AM on October 9th, 2015:

Should be.., with every game that passes he should start to think less and less about the injuries and he should be building the confidence to consistently set his feet and throw with the perfect mechanics while under fire, and we have see that when he sets his feet and his mechanics are on point he can make every throw while being extremely accurate..
    ..
He should be getting more comfortable as he gets used to the speed of the game, and his command of the offense should also be improving..

He even built some confidence last week in picking up first downs with his legs and properly sliding, and also escaping from pass rushers and throw it on the run… This was a HUGE sign to see, and hopefully we can build on if this week and ask Bradford to run with it on a few Option plays if the defense isn’t respecting him as a threat to run. All he has to do is burn the defense by running for two first downs and they will have to respect the threat which should help open things up a bit for our RBs..
    ..
With a struggling OL, after what we saw last week, I’d like to see us get him out of the pocket, roll him out and throw it on the run more..
    ..
Also like to esfablish a run game out of heavy max protection packages that way we can eventually catch them slipping when we Dail up play action bombs out of what looks like a heavy power run formation
    ..
SAMMY BOY showed a lot of anticipation last week and fit balls into some really tight Windows which should be good for his confidence. hopefully we continue to look deep, push our routes down field, some post routes, Dig routes..
    ..’
Most imptortant is hopefully coming out the gates at home ready to get off to a good start and score on our first two drives.. If our OL allows Sam and our RB to have some early success instead of having to get it going in the 2nd half after being shut down in the first half.., be HUGE if the OL allows the offense to get in a rythem early.. iF we can run the ball in the first half like we did against the Jets superior defense, I would like SAMs chances at having his break out game against this shaky skins defense

  369. 369 James said at 11:03 AM on October 9th, 2015:

We need huge OL improvement before I start hoping the receivers/runners get going. But will OL get better, not feeling confident….

  370. 370 GEAGLE said at 11:12 AM on October 9th, 2015:

OL has done a decent job of pass blocking, it’s the run blocking that’s been poor, which to me screams of a lack of continuity:.. Every OL to ever play prefers to run block where they get to attack the defenders, usually you see lines like Dallas that are great run blockers but not as great in pass protection, the fact that our run blocking is so screwed up, yet our pass protection has actually held up at times, I don’t see how this can be anything but an execution problem resulting from not having gelled into a cohesive unit yet.. It makes no sense to be able to pass block but be so inept at run blocking… If anything it’s usually the other way around
    ..
In praying we see the run blocking get it going right from tne staff like we did against the Jets defense…
    ..

How different is out OL personnel going into this game compared to the personell that started the jets game? Can’t keep track of all the injuries

  371. 371 James said at 11:39 AM on October 9th, 2015:

ok I get the continuity thing, but when there are plays that the guards outright dont block the guys in front of him, I think its more mental and signs of being a bad player than blaming it on continuity.

  372. 372 GEAGLE said at 11:06 AM on October 9th, 2015:

I hope chip and Martnowitz are at least trying to make an enticing offer to the Bears for Kyle Long. I assume Chicago has no desire to dump him but for a team that will have to blow it up and rebuild maybe we can get them to
Consider it with a enticing package of picks, so they would be ridding themselves of a player they have to commit big money to soon, and in return get quality draft picks that they can rebuild with that come with cheaper rookie contracts for the next 4-5 years..
    ..
Not for nothing, but when we get to next years draft everyone will want an OL in round 1, so is it really the end of the world to give up a 1st round pick so we can get our OL help NOW instead of having to wait til the offseason to draft OL help?.. A 1st round pick won’t be enough, throw in a 3rd in 2017, throw in Josh Huff if you have to… Kyle would be HUGE for us, young stud who can play guard and RT, our coach knows well, and we eliminate the risk of drafting a guy that always can end up being a bust…
    ,.
Bears already have shown that they are open for business.. Make them an offer the can’t refuse, just spread it out over the next two drafts

Hopefully Dallas doesn’t pry Forte or Alshon away from Chicago… I’d rather not have to deal with those two in our division

  373. 373 James said at 11:11 AM on October 9th, 2015:

without a second round pick it doesnt give us any flexibility to move around in the draft. At least if we keep our 1st we could trade down and pick up another pick.

  374. 374 GEAGLE said at 11:27 AM on October 9th, 2015:

I understand that, but say we don’t have a 1st and 2nd this year, we have a couple extra picks from rounds 3-5 that we can package to move back into round 2 if a player we love and have highly rated falls, or we can trade back in rounds 3 and 4 and end up picking like 6 times in those 3 rounds, hopefully at least 3 of those 6 can end up being quality young additions..
    ..
Long to me is one of the very best young lineman in the game,, can’t put him ahead of GB’a Josh Sitton yet but Long has probably been an even better Guard, than Lane has been a RT and I’m still thrilled with Lane but it speaks to how well Kyle has done.. Kid is still young, has plenty of years left in the tank, cHip knows him well, he operated in Oregons tempo attack, can really solve a Guard problem now and turn it into a strength, while also being our RT of the
Future when Lane moves to the left side… IMO definitely worth 3 picks in the next two years.. 1,3 and 5 maybe…. It’s not like we are going to want to add 10 new players to next years roster, we can prioritize quality over quantity because we have some really nice depth at a few positions and just need to strengthen a few starting spots on the Line.. Trade for Long, and extend him and Lane together early in year 5
