Wow. This is the worst 2 weeks in a long, long time. The loss to Miami was disappointing and frustrating, but involved more sloppy football than outright bad play.
The last 2 weeks were far worse. The Eagles got dominated. They were out-played, out-coached and anything else you want to throw in there.
The next 5 weeks will determine the future of Chip Kelly and this coaching staff. No one is getting fired 11 games into the season. That doesn’t accomplish anything. After 2 horrible performances in games the Eagles needed to win, Chip’s future becomes highly in doubt.
I have been a big supporter of Chip’s since before he was hired. But games like the last 2 weeks can’t be ignored. I don’t think Chip is done for sure, but I think he’s now on shaky ground. More games like this and he will be out of a job. If the team is either so-so or plays well, Jeff Lurie will have a decision to make. Does he end it or give Chip another year?
Bill Davis and the defense had another bad day. That is 3 weeks in a row with no takeaways. They can’t seem to cover anyone. Davis better get this defense turned around in a hurry or he could be out of a job even if Chip comes back.
Mark Sanchez has confirmed that’s he’s Mark Sanchez and nothing more. It will be good to get Sam Bradford back on the field. That doesn’t mean he’s going to get the Eagles to suddenly play great football, but he is a better QB than Sanchez.
This is a tough time to follow the Eagles. They aren’t fun to watch right now and there is a ton of negativity around the team. And they go play the Patriots in 10 days. What could possibly go wrong there…

Where has Oregon Ducker gone? Has he faded away as Chips reputation has? OD, really would like your insight as to how Chip handles such adversity as he is under at the moment.
I feel bad for OD. I think he’s as bemused as we all are.
The Ducks didn’t lose two games in a row under Kelly, not counting a bowl + the next opening day.
That’s not what I’m talking about entirely, I asked how he deals with adversity which means more then just the losing streak. I’m talking about the losing, the players, his decisions, the media, the fans, his stubbornness to tinkle with his scheme when it isn’t working, so yea there was more to my post then just losing 2 games.
That was really tough to watch. 3 weeks ago I thought we had a good chance to get to 7-4 before our inevitable pasting in Foxborough. The offense clearly has personnel problems, but what about the defense? They’re relatively healthy and started falling apart just as the LBs got healthy again. Is it possible the defense is tired both physically and mentally from having to bail out the offense all season?
I cant remember a more talented defense (by talented i mean should be at least be an average defense) playing so poorly, and to say “poorly” is an understatement. Five passing tds two games in a row, one game vs a rookie QB and the other Stafford, a hamster getting the 19th most rushing yards in a game in nfl history. Never have i seen a defense drop so far in one season, so the talent was there in the beginning of the season somehow. Just must be mostly coaching, Davis has to go.
When is the last time we have seen a confused opposing QB. Past two games at least the QB seems completely confident before ball is snapped, like he can read the defense just fine and knows what will happen.
And same goes for opposing defenses, like the middle linebackers, they seem completely confident when diagnosing Kelly’s plays, meeting the running back two yards behind the line of scrimmage in swing passes over and over.

Second straight 45 spot put up by an offensive coordinator in his first year with his team. Billy Davis made Jim Bob Cooter look good after JBC had yet to reach 20 points in his first three games.
I’ve never been a fan of Davis. He does nothing originally, so you expect him to just manage the game soundly. He doesn’t do that. It’s harder to fault Shurmur because it’s Chip’s offense, but the WCO passing isn’t working. Chip hired these guys to help him transition to NFL coaching, but they’ve been predictable and outmatched.
With nine days off, this is a perfect time to send Davis on vacation. He has lost the defense. No one’s saying he deserves all the blame but this would seem to be necessary if the troops can still be rallied.
Its all worth it if we get Geoff .Will also say no rushing tds in 2 weeks #bend but don’t break.

Jared Goff is totally overrated. He’s the best QB in a weak class. He doesn’t possess NFL arm strength and way too often locks in on the 1st read.
Every year is a “weak qb class.” doesnt have to be Goff but it needs to be someone.
I agree but in no way an I reaching for Goff. The Eagles would be better off standing pat at whatever draft position they get and take BPA regardless of position unless there is a QB there that Chip is really enamored with.
Thats what they have done but the qb position remains lacking. Usually i would agree with you but qbs are worth taking shots for in a situation where you havemt had one for a long time.
Ok Mitchell so with your logic then you wouldn’t mind the Eagles reaching for a QB when you don’t have to in this upcoming draft. The difference between Goff who will go in the top 10 and someone like Connor Cook who might go low 1st possibly 2nd isn’t enough of a difference to reach or trade any asset for a rookie QB. Honestly I would rather have RG3 or Kaepernick over any of the rookies coming out and that’s not saying much because I’m not a fan of Griffin or Kaepernick.

lol I agree but my basic premise was that I would take either of those before reaching in the draft for a QB and I truly dislike both kaepernick and griffin. I’m in the belief that its a 90% chance Kaepernick will be an Eagle next year.

I guess Im thinking the Eagles do in fact need a new qb but im not necessarily saying reach in the first. Chip still needs to get a guy that he thinks can win. A qb he can craft. No matter the round but preferably in the first 3.

I have D3, I’ve actually watched him closely just in the mindset that the Eagles may draft a QB high but which of my points is so far off base?
Arm strength concerns are overblown, he’s made 50 yard throws. He just turned 21 and has had to work to put on weight. The overall strength will come as he grows into his body and refines his mechanics.
Locking on to reads is a product of the system. That’s the air raid. It’s alot of quick passes and single side reads where the QB may not dramatically move his head. Yes he does lock on to receivers but so does literally every college QB ever. I’ve also seen him move around comfortably in the pocket go from his WRs on teh right to the WR in the middle to the WRs on the left only to come back and hit the guy in the middle all while evading the rush and keeping his eyes downfield.
Goff was QB 1 in September so now he’s getting the Teddy treatment where everyone wants to endlessly nitpick every part of his game. The kid is a gamer. He’s a potential franchise QB. There aren’t many of those.
If I was a GM I would take Goff 1-1. If I’m the Eagles I trade whatever i need to in order to get him.

I’d be willing to almost guarantee that RG3&out will be a Brown. They were very bitter when then “missed” on him in 2012.
I’ve seen him make 50 yard throws as well but not with much accuracy. Even Chad Pennington made the occasional 50 yard pass with his noodle arm so that it’s possible for most QBs. I agree that the air raid offense is what has him locking onto his first read but it seems like few QBs these days that come from those offenses are successful due to the fact that they are getting rushed into playing time with no learning curve and Goff would come here with expectations to play right away. As for the Teddy treatment I never understood that in general, I thought he was the best QB in that class and still do and in no way should he have lasted that long in the draft. Now as for trading whatever to get Goff is absurd, he isn’t a transcendent , once in a generation talent so in no way would I trade just anything for him. The Skins traded the house for Griffin and he was a much better QB then Goff and even that was alot albeit they thought they were getting their franchise savior. I appreciate your opinion and thoughts on Goff but I guess we just disagree on how good he really is. At the end of the day if the Eagles did get him I would still be excited.

He’s not on Luck’s level. But I would put him in the same bracket as Mariotta.
For me it boils down to him being the best bet at a franchise QB in this draft. I haven’t done a ton of work on Lynch but am lukewarm currently. Cook isn’t one. He’s like the two Michigan State QBs that came before him (Hoyer and Cousins) and his teammates hate him more than anything. Wentz could be one but I think that’s a 2 year project, before he’s ready to go and that means you’re on a new staff who want their own guy.
I’m done with QB retreads. It’s time to go get the guy. Anything else is just dicking around hoping to stumble into something.

It’s the big arm. He’s 6’7 with a cannon arm and mobility. And he beat Ole Miss, but his windup seems like it takes forever. I think once people really dig into Lynch’s tape and the narrative stops viewing him as “alternative to overhyped california pretty boy QB” people will cool
That I definitely agree with you with in if said QB is your guy then go get him, but if you’re not completely sold on him then don’t trade away the farm for him.

I hated Carr coming out. Whoops. Biggest lesson from that evaluation was pocket awareness can be cleaned up. He’s still wildly outplayed expectations of even his biggest supporters.
If your talking about Goff today or Carr today, that’s Carr hands down because he’s done it in the league, he’s got top 5 QB upside and a higher floor because he’s done it. If you’re talking as a prospect Goff’s profile is much stronger.

just thinking Kelly has so much infrastructure needed unique to his system, from blenders, to sleep monitors to odd sports scientist people running around, firing Kelly is a bigger deal than firing most coaches. Lurie went all in from top to bottom to the Kelly system, so i have to think Lurie will double down, commit even more to the system and give it one more year at least. But then next year Kelly just needs to show progress so Lurie can say we are improving, we are 8-8 in 2016, lets give it another year and so on.

So much for building a team around culture including Murray. Ran like a chump today and gave almost no effort to keep plays alive or even stretch out for an extra yard or two.

Stat differential when Hicks was and wasn’t on the field were startling before we went down. Thought it was largely because he was playing well but one of those quirky stats due to noise and a smaller sample size. Guess not after the last 2 weeks. Can’t remember an Eagles’ defense coming apart at the seems like this due to a single injury.

I wasn’t that angsty either about this loss either. Last week was when I waived the flag on the ’15 season and too many other things to be concerned or thankful about today.
The Defense was the one bright spot of the season, and chip took it for granted, kept piling on and on, on the backs of this defense, Til he was able to implode the defense down to the level of this offensive mess he created.

This defense not only had to fight the opponent each week, but they also had to overcome the effects of a negligent coach and the extra pressure his offensive mess put on this defense… This coach has NEVER done a fuckin thing to help this defense, he makes it harder on them more than he helps them..

Just look at today. defense got embarressed last week, only had a few days to recover, came into this game with an Offense that has struggled for almost 3 months, Jason Peters gets hurt right away,ma backüp QB that has been Horribke. No Ertz, No Ryan mathews(most productive offensive player), and what does chip do? Does he adjust, try to help the defense a bit since he would most likely have to ask him to win this game? Of Course not… Refused to,adjust his ridiculous tempo.. Basically all year his offense is basically rushiñg back to the bench as fast as they can. Instead of adjusting to help the defense, this fucking GENIUS had a stretch of offense tonight, that went for 5 three and outs, for a combined total of 3 minutes and 12 seconds. 5 drives combined for 3 MINUTES. Just think of the extra pressure it puts on a defense that is already fuckng falling apart?…. Basically, chip coached to try and get into a shoutout, with an offense that struggles to score 17 points a game, and a defense that was good, but has been getting worse every game for the last month.. Instead of adjusting to try and get this turned around, he stayed the course and completely crashed into a giant Iceberg.. Actually I can’t even say that. Because the Iceberg is waiting for us in new Engalnd.

You run 5 differemt plays out of 3 different shotgun formatipns.. Your offens hasn’t done shit for weeks, the entire team has lost all its confidence, and you don’t even fucking Attempt to try and give this a spark with a big play? Teams all year have been sitting on all our screens, we put NO trick plays on Film, so defenses dont even worry about you doing a trick play and they can be as aggressive as you want… Knowing THS, And the fact you DESPERATELY NEED a Spark, your offense stalled months ago, and you can’t even attempt to throw a screen to a WR and let the WR throw a pass down field and try to catch the defense slipping? You don’t even attempt a reverse? Why because you tried one reverse with a rookie in New Years and it didn’t work? Shit, forget trick plays. How about 1 simple go route and demand Sanchez throw it down field just to take a shot (like buying a lottery ticket)…. Question, you know Riley Coop doesn’t have the speed to get open, Why th Fuck are you putting him n the field if you refuse to give him any jump ball opportunities?

I have NEVER seen ANYTHING like this. This is common once a team is mathematically eliminated at the end of the year and has NOTHNG to play for, but I can’t recall ever seeing a team 1 or 2 games out of first place in the division with one of those games left against the division leading Giamts we have to catch. 2 wins away, 5 games to go, and you lose complete control, and faith of your lockerroom? How the hell did you manage to have you “CULTURE” CLUB quit on you while you are in 2nd place still with 5 fucking games to go? When the hell does that ever happen? THS is EPICALLY BAD!

This is a mess, and please don’t take this as me excusing the defense because I couldn’t be any more disgusted with them right now… But ATleast the defense showed up for about half of the season, before having to overcome the opponent, and the insane pressure chips inept offense piled on them every week caught up to them… I’m furious with Billy Davis. But SHAME ON US if we allow Chip to scapegoat Billy, because while I have plenty of beef with billy and the defense, No one has failed more miserably than Chip kelly.. It’s one thng for your offense to fail, but to also not try and adjust and make it even harder for your defense is negligible. Chip has been so bad, that I feel like we can’t even punish anyone because it would just be a scapegoat.

You keep drafting Matakevich. He would be an ILB in our scheme. BPA is great but I don’t see anyway where his value surpasses other players when weighing for need.
Considering Kendricks is brutal, Kiko is a corpse, Meco is on the way out, and Hicks is an injury ?………….ILB could be more of a need than we’d care to admit.

Jeff Lurie took a gamble by hiring Kelly, but perhaps his biggest bet was turning over personnel to Kelly as well. The blueprint for a sound football franchise imo, lies in Green Bay, Pittsburgh and New York. All of those franchises have strong FO’s that keep team-building decisions largely out of the hands of HC’s. When Howie Roseman was able to get Kelly to agree to come to Philly, he said that he and the whole FO would be looking to get the players and personnel that Kelly tells them he wants. In his first PC as Eagles HC – where he referenced Cortes’ burning his ships to prevent treason – Kelly shot down any notion that he wanted FO control. I am a Kelly fan, which derives from his ability to quickly see and identify the tendencies of his opponents. He’s got a good football mind, and he is hungry to demonstrate that on the field. What he may not be is a good delegator and a superior evaluator. It has happened numerous times that a very good HC is a not-very-good GM, and the 3 organizations that I cited always get the GM they want before looking for a HC. Losing Coughlin will be a mere blip on the Giants radar, as replacing Cowher was for the Steelers. The problem with the model that Jeff Lurie has tended to follow is the departure of the HC is unavoidably bloody. I had argued since 2008 that Andy Reid was hurting the franchise with his mediocre player selection, and I was hoping that, when the impersonal Joe Banner left, Lurie would either invest in HR who he clearly trusts, or instruct HR to find an exceptional evaluator / administrator that can work with a coach, but always has the health of the franchise as his top priority.
I don’t know how stridently Kelly can or will defend his GM decisions, and I have no problem at all with dishing Jackson or trading Shady. As dynamically gifted as both players are, they monopolized way more $$$ than they were worth to the team. My concern is with Kelly’s “prototype” player. If “character” is the deal-maker or deal-breaker, then I believe he has got to be shorn of his GM responsibilities pronto. “Character” is subjectively defined, and recruiting and signing players must, first and foremost, be based on what they can do on the field. I don’t find any of the drafts under Kelly particularly bad, but the priority of franchise building requires above average evaluation, and so far, the best draft since Kelly arrived was the 2013 draft, and Kelly didn’t have final say that year.
It is probable that at least one head will roll following the season, if not sooner. When that happens I want chapter and verse about what is going on right now. I highly doubt that Howie is to blame. Chip has always had some say, he just doesn’t want someone else to question his decisions now that he’s the GM.
Every single pick made was ultimately Chip’s call. Howie’s input was there, but they were all Chip’s final pick.
Howie created the options so at the end of the day chip was picking Howies guys which he obviously didn’t like .
Those options were created by giving the scouts Chip’s exact specifications for height/weight/speed/etc. Chip didn’t like people not answering to him from A to Z, but you’ll never convince me any of those 2013 or 2014 picks were anybody but Chip’s.

The,fire,chip discussion is pointless. We have two decades of Intel that points to Luriie not firing Chip after his first down year whether we like it or not. But after NEXT year DECISIONS will NEED TO BE MADE because no one with options goes into a lame duck year as a coach on a 1yr deal, so depending on what chip does next year, he will either earn a 2 year extension, a 5yr extension, or they work out a buyout, make it look like an amicable split voiding the last year of his deal… chip setting the bar real low this season, so even if he is already planning his exit strategy from philly, he will need to build his stock back up a little next year which won’t be hard after how bad this year will be… LUrie will NEVER,fire a coach after his first bad year, and after demanding GM power or threatening to walk, chip can’t quit after the mess he made this season, for starters His ego can’t take that type of beating to his reputation, he will be viewed as Lane Kiffin or spurrier and never be trusted with an NFL Headcoaching job again, and while everyone acts like he loves college, I THNK he really loves coaching in the NFL and after 1 bad year, im not sure he is ready to piss away any chance at a future job.. Even if he wants to leave, I Think he knows he can’t screw over Jeffrey Lurie and weasel out of this mess he created, so Ultimately lUrie and Chip will want to give it at least 1 more year.

After this miserable season ends, chip will dissapear and take a 4 month reak from the media… He is a bright offensive coach, but any hope of success will depend on how willing he is to evolve in order to win, instead of needing to fixate on winning a specific way… At some point he will reach the conclusion that he will need to make some signifcant additions to his offense, and come to a conclusion that there are times when tempo is great, and there are times where it needs to be shelved because it can have a negative impact on other phases of the game, if your offense struggles its one thing, but don’t Łet offensive struggles bring down the rest of our team.. He also needs to be Humble and realize when his defense is the strength of hS team, he has to play to his strengths and realize when the only thing our tempo is accomplishing is putting the offense back on the sideline as fast as fuckin possible
Would it have made sense to sign a cheaper cornerback. Get an offensive lineman in the draft. And then sign a wide receiver such as Michael Crabtree who was easily available?.
Why did we go WR in the first round??. Then blow the budget on Maxwell, who clearly doesnt care, when we could have kept Maclin & drafted a CB?.

What killed me at CB is when the Denver kid didn’t hit the market.
I know DeMarco Murray has been playing at a level far less than what we’ve paid him, but I don’t get him being the focal point of the ire today. The 5 guys “blocking” for him are a bunch of torn up female genital parts; especially in run blocking. Murray could be playing better, but this line is putrid.

There is nothing wrong with the Dallas running game that wouldn’t be fixed for next year by giving the Eagles a 2nd round draft pick for Murray.

Why would ANYTHNG change? When no one is held accountable.. Nothing more dissapointing than the LB.. We spent the pffseason arguing because we had too much ILB talent, we lose the 3rd round rookie that no one wanted, and there goes ALL OUR QUALITY ILB play…. Did Mufasa wake up Old one morning? Before his hamstring strain, I was in Awe of how good he looked coming back so Quickily from his ACL. He was playing down hill. Cracking RBs and Beasting in the run, yet since he came back from the hamstring injury he is terrible. He can’t get off a single block. Meco and Kiko combined for 5 tackles the past 2 games..I barely even saw kIko on the field today. But I dont blame Kiko. He clearly ismt right yet and the dude keeps trying to fight to come back fast for us so he is showing heart in his own right and is still young enough to where I still have Longterm hope for him… After a few bad weeks coming back from his ACL,Mychal Kendricks started flying around and had a sack in 3 games in a row finally playing to his potential, today he was just as bad as everyone else… Crazy, how this is officially jordan Hicks defense. He is the new QB going forward and the rest are playing to be his side kick…

After a rocky start, Byron Maxwell went on like a 5 game stretch of solid football, he was horrendous today. He must have given up like 8 catches and was in on two incompletions.. What’s worse is it was so soft off coverage,clearly lost faith in either himself, or the help around him, or the scheme/techniques they asked Him to use, because the kid didn’t Even compete today… BG made a play against the run early, was shutout the rest of the day after looking dominant 3 weeks ago in dallas

RB – Murray/Mathews (Sproles is getting cut in 2016) (both are more suited to a power running scheme)
FB – Nothing
WR – 2/3 young WR’s but no experienced vet (Cooper is cut 2016)
LT – Johnson long term starter
OG – no long term answers 2-3 journeymen
C- Until this year Kelce was an excellent zone blocking C… scheme dependent
Peters – due 8+mil next year and has struggled this year at times before injuries, team could look to move on or keep for 1 final year
So we need at least 1 vet WR, a QB and extensive OL work, with a possible OL scheme change to match your RB’s (who you have to keep next year).
Defense is more interesting.
We have a talented front 7, which is pretty scheme flexible.
I would love a 4-3 with Curry (resigned)-Logan-Cox-Graham, and Kendricks, Alonso and Hicks as your 3LB’s. Would need 1-2 depth DL but would be a fun set. (would probably trade Barwin but could keep as a 3rd down rusher)
Secondary we have Maxwell and Jenkins signed long term, and Thurmond could be resigned. Need another CB, but outside of that you have a decent (if not elite) unit.

New coach and situation, with less pressure with pace of play and this defense can be a lot better than it has shown last 2 games.
It is amazing the impact loosing Hicks has had on the run game, but lets be real these last 2 games have been significant outliers compared to the rest of the year.

It’s true, Mike Shula (Dons Shula son) Couldnt have constructed a better offense to excentuate the Talemt and skill of his players.. Masterful job,. And their GM has done a great job drafting, building a nasty physical fast front 7, and a OL that can be powerful in the run game.. Take away the mobile QB element, thr Carolina run plays are basically my dream for a team with Murray and Mathews.. My understanding is Ron Rivera is a defensive coach that leaves the offense to Shula, and if that’s true, much respect to him, not that it’s some high powered offense, but because it fits perfectly with the talemt he has Cam, Jonathn Stewart, Mike Tolbert, Olsen, Funchess starting to make some plays. They would be nasty if they had Kelvin Benjamin..

that is a good point about timing. way too early in a season where last week a victory would have given them the lead in a division. What is that about? that is some new low level of losing the locker room. If I just meditate on this too long, i will be all for getting rid of all of the players, players who could not get worked up to fight for a division lead against the bucs, or a victory today and still be close, nowhere close to eliminated. Except for Sproles, at least he had emotion and yelled at Sanchez last week and fought hard in a run this game at the end.
yea this is what i don’t get either. 3 weeks ago they go on the road and have an emotional OT victory over a division rival who beat you at home earlier in the season in a game that you played so poorly in. Then the next week you are at home against a struggling Miami team and if you win you are most likely tied for first place. Things go great in the first quarter and all of a sudden Caleb Sturgis misses a kick and the team just nosedives, it was like someone just flipped a switch and this team turned into a bunch of lazy bums. It’s really odd
That Dallas game was actually rather concerning. Sam had a few good throws, and Sturgis hit a pressure kick, but we beat a bad team with a backup QB by the skin of our teeth.

I’m more or less talking about just they way they played in that game, there was a sense of urgency, they ran the ball well and threw it fairly well and generally looked excited to be playing (although i was sitting in the upper deck at the game, so i couldn’t see the up close reactions to players faces like i can on tv) They came home for the Miami game and just turned numb in the 2nd quarter of that game. Almost like they didn’t care anymore

I feel neutral because Dallas got blasted too. To a better team, but I’m actually happy. I’ll enjoy the rest of this season. Corey Brown’s gmom lives in my apartment building and I walk her dog sometimes, so I can root for her to see her grandson go far in the playoffs and possibly more. Unfortunately, most coaches who fail in the NFL just lacked the QB that you just described. I happen to think Chips entire system is unsustainable in the nfl. You can’t hang your defense out to dry as much as he does.

Given that Lurie is likely to give Kelly another year, i just see my dumb self in the offseason rationalizing it being that Kelly just needs an offseason to return to a small cabin in the tundra of New Hampshire, Rocky style comeback training, and find himself again. I will think, “It got so bad that not even Chip could be so stubborn as not to change things around and he will find his creative side again and come in with real changes to the offense (and get a new defensive coach) that will take the league by surprise….” then i will get hyped again for the start of the season, and on the very first play Kelly will have Bradford throw a swing pass to Murray for a two yard loss.”
This is why i dont think he can return. He is not likely to change, we have learned that about him and he keeps telling us that, over and over. It is not the plays, it is the execution by the players. Coming back for another season, he will likely spend the offseason trying to figure out how he can get his players to better execute the same plays.
After the first quarter of this game, it just seemed Kelly with his paper in front of his mouth must have known nothing he will call will work very well, but he has no choice but to call the plays, they are the only plays of course his team knows, so just went through the motions, and players knew the same thing so went through the motions. Never had this feeling before with a team, sure, teams have sucked before during games, but never a sense that it was hopeless from a fundamental system level of things.
I’ve said all along that Chip will most certainly be given the opportunity to coach at least 1 more season beyond this year. However, the fact the he’s the GM complicates things. Will he make tough personnel moves? For instance, Billy Davis HAS to go. I don’t care how nice he is or how much the players may like him. The Saints coaches and players revered Rob Ryan and that didn’t stop them from firing him mid-season. Billy’s track record is arguably worse than Ryan’s. Will Chip be comfortable firing Billy and other coaches who are under performing? Furthermore, who the heck is going to want to coach alongside Chip? I can’t imagine this is an ideal place to coach defense.
Back to my original thought. I would have to imagine that Lurie is definitely questioning his decision to make Chip the GM. How will he – if he does at all – approach Chip in an effort to strip some of those powers? And if such a conversation takes place, how will Chip respond?
My gut tells me that Chip is a fighter and he wants to see this thing through. However, I think his strength (his vision and persistence) is also weakness. I can’t see Chip deviating from his rigid set of beliefs (i.e. running out of shotgun, running the 3-4, relying on slow, run-blocking WRs, up-tempo offense, etc.).
It’s not that we’re 4-7 that people are so down on Chip and the team’s future. It’s the nature in which we are getting beat as of late. It’s the fact that the team has clearly regressed and clearly lacks talent (in some areas) and confidence right now.
I think the team has talent just not being put in a good position to succeed. If you gave the team to a decent dc I’m sure he’d make the unit look good. But today players were getting disrespected and that’s no bueno.

Personally, I have never felt comfortable with us transitioning to the 3-4 and feel we were/are better equipped for success running a 4-3. I’m not saying the 3-4 can’t work. It can and obviously does for some teams. Problem is, we don’t have a consistently disruptive OLB to really make it work.
Beyond scheme, coaching (or should I say lack of coaching) is a major issue. Billy might be a nice guy and all, but the results speak volumes. He’s never led a great defense, let alone a mediocre unit. I refuse to believe that he is maximizing our players full potential and ‘putting players in a position to succeed.’
Billy has to go. But who is going to replace him? Do you honestly believe Chip will be able to attract top flight coaches? I want to see it work, but I have too much doubt right now.

Hyperbole much? I’m not Chip’s biggest fan right now, but I think his track record speaks for itself. He may prove to be a flop in the NFL, but a bad coach he is certainly not. Bad coaches don’t just luck their way from coaching Div III teams to an NFL team in the short span he did.
Chip has had mild success already. He’s coached the Eagles to back to back 10 win seasons. He’s proven he CAN win in the NFL. His track record as a GM is looking abysmal and his long term coaching prospects with the Eagles is looking bleak. Regardless, he’s still a great coach despite your opinions. He might be a BAD coach for this Eagles team, but he’s still a great coach who’s experienced a TON of success.
Romo reinjured the same clavicle again. Hard not to second guess that he came back too soon and serious questions about his durability going ahead forward.
Once you break and reinjure the clavicle again so soon, it is going to be prone to reinjury in the future. Problem is they have huge money tied up in Romo through ’17 and a decent cap hit if they cut him in ’18.
We should trade for him.

Watching Chicago and Detroit right their seasons is depressing
Still think the Lions are frauds but if the Bears can pull this game out, I think they’ll sneak into a WC spot. Their remaining schedule is just so favorable although they do have to beat the Vikings on the road (tough task since Vikings are 5-0 so far at home and played very well there).

Yeah but the Bear are legitimately playing well for more than a month now and should have won last week vs Broncos.
If anything, I see ATL not making the playoffs (in part because of their remaining schedule) and either MIN/GB has to win the NFC Central.
Leaves 1 WC up for grabs. If CHI wins today, I like their chances although I can see why people are getting on the TB bandwagon or favoring SEA too.
GB beat Minnesota at home last week so they can’t be 5-0 at home.

And so it begins. I really have no idea about any of these players and have much to watch. I gave up the 2016 1st, a 2016 3rd and a 2017 1st for Goff. The simulator had the Eagles at 14. It was too much for the trade but if that situation plays out and there are bidding teams, you have to get your guy. I somewhat regret the Fields pick but Kaufusi is a 6’7″ behemoth with a basketball background. I would love some freakish long edge rusher if they stay in the 3-4 with some potential. Sutton seems like a long corner with decent grades. I think lineman from Stanford are usually pretty good, no? I know Iowa/ Wisconsin churn out some big uglies.
It is what it is and we are not a good team at all. I’m not mad, just anxious to get the season over with. I know the coaches say they come up with a game plan, but it seems the same every week.
Defense: We get beat 3rd and whatever too much. The slant and crossing routes have continued to burn us and it seems like nothing has changed.
Offense: It’s like the design is to run the same 4 plays all game long. I know Sanchez is bad, but I feel like defenses already know what’s coming.
I want to see Chip get next year, but I have to see some major changes. Whether we think Shurmur, Davis, or any of the other coaches are good – he has to shake it up. What does that look like?
Sort of have to agree that Chip should get another year. He is kind of like a high draft pick you have to let develop. I need to see how he responds to this season.
Shake up the coaching staff and really look at the philosophy.
Maybe this is exactly what he needed. Maybe he’ll question some things and go back to what made the team good in 13.
thinking that Kelly’s offensive system’s affect on the defense just might be his fatal flaw. For whatever reason, be it “cant get first downs” or “the fast pace”, i am pretty sure it works out that the defense plays a full game more than the average nfl team. Whether or not this matters on a physical level, at least Williams let us know it affected them mentally, can give them a victim complex, which will make their muscles more sore, legs more tired, and give them an excuse as players to latch onto.
and putting myself in the defense shoes, they might have a right to be resentful to the offense and chip. the team will live or die with the offense, so no matter how well the defense is, Kelly’s offense is feast or famine, and if in famine mode team will lose no matter what defense does. And if offense is in feast mode, the offense will get most of the credit. So a defense that feels like it is a victim of the head coach will towards the end of the season play like they did last year and play like they are now.
And this cant be fixed. Kelly will always have a second fiddle, resentful, excuse ready defense. Actually, they are the only defense in the league, maybe history of the league that has a built in excuse before the first snap of the season.
I’ve been a big Chip supporter mainly because I didn’t think there was a better option. A couple more weeks like this I say we fire Chip and hire Vic Fangio. Even if Chip hangs on I say we fire Billy Davis and throw money at Vic Fangio to be the DC.
I’d also replace him with my Uncle Vic or my cousin Vic. He needs to go now. The situation is toxic. Jeffrey needs to work it out niw.
1) The offensive scheme doesn’t work. DeMarco coming to a stop to take a hand-off or tripping over the QB’s feet is painful to watch.
2) Crossing patterns worked early in the season, but now we don’t seem to have any offensive plays to get a WR open.
3) No idea what kind of defense we’re playing – if it’s press, we don’t hit the guy, if it’s man. we’re no where need them, if it’s zone, we leave vast areas uncovered.
So you’re saying all in all things are looking up at the moment?
Lurie has likely already decided the future of chip kelly… The next 5 games do not matter one little bit
I’d like to see it happen now. No reason to have the team play in that type of environment.
