Game Preview – Time to Whip Flipper
Posted: November 15th, 2015 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 52 Comments »For the second time this year, the Eagles can get above .500. The last time they tried, Carolina beat the Eagles. This is much different. That game was on the road against an undefeated team. This is a home game against a team that has lost 2 games in a row and given up 69 points in those games.
If you can’t win this game…well, I’d rather not think about that possibility.
I wrote my game preview for PE.com.
The Eagles have another chance for a big day on the ground. Miami is struggling to stop the run and the Eagles run game is red hot. The Eagles OL needs to control the line of scrimmage and pound on the Dolphins over and over. Still no definitive word on Jason Peters.
Last week was the first time all year the Eagles didn’t turn the ball over. It would be great to see that again.
*****
Sam Bradford had his best game of the year last week. Can he play well again?
Can the Eagles get pass catchers to make big plays for the second week in a row?
It would be good to see the passing game have another strong performance.
_
Yes!!!!!
Not sure I’m ready to feel confident about the 2015 Eagles against anyone yet. Can’t keep starting as slow as they have, and the offense needs to be much more consistent generally.
Unrelated – not sorry to see Ronda taken down a peg. Utter domination.
Holm put her to sleep like Bill Cosby
Erm, maybe let’s not get our laughs by trivializing rape?
Way too insensitive on my part
Always an upvote for acknowledging a mistake. The igglesblitz community really is a great one.
We had issues with Beasley last week but Jenkins will hopefully match up better with Landry. I’m not sure how to feel about Kelce/Tobin/Barbre going up against Suh and Starks. There was a bunch of pressure coming in from the middle against the Cowgirls no name players. This could get ugly if the OL doesn’t hold up but Miami is more inconsistent than we are.
That’s the one matchup that has the potential to completely lose the game for us. If Suh plays dominantly and gets instant inside pressure our entire offense could shut down like it did week 2 against Dallas.
Suh vs. 2015 feeble Kelce is a concern.
Yeah, I could see Suh winning this game singlehandedly. Gotta tire that mutha out.
geagle i hope you put that money on holly
He’s probably crying with Dana White right now
Doubt it. When Dana determines the winners before each match, he does it with a financial plan in mind. That has worked for McMahon for years.
You’re not seriously suggesting that last night’s fight was rigged, are you?
I’m suggesting that MMA, in general, lacks true authenticity.
Define “lacks authenticity”. Are fights overhyped and matchups created to favour ‘money’ fighters? Sure.
Are fights rigged and outcomes pre-determined? Nah. At least, not at the highest level.
I dislike the entire undertaking. And I think some of the stuff is rigged for TV/ PPV purposes. I have no proof of this, just my view of it.
It seems that way sometimes in the NBA, too.
Correct. Name on back of jersey = who gets what calls.
Tim Donagy wasn’t lying.
Nah…. he looked sick putting that belt around Holm.
Yes sir!!!!
This is a game we should win handedly. However, it’s also a game that has trap written all over it. This is a talented team that can cause problems in all phases of the game if their stars decide to ever get it together and play well for an entire afternoon. Plus we’re coming off a big, emotional, over time win against a division opponent in prime time. We’re a young team and it’s always a possibility a young team starts to smell themselves a bit with some recent success and sees a 3 game stretch against seemingly inferior opponents coming up and starts to look ahead. Let’s hope that isn’t a problem with Chips collection of #culture players and insistance on taking things one week at a time.
On offense, my only concern is our inside 3 blocking Suh all game long. Kelce handled Suh just fine last year in the snow bowl, but that was in terrible conditions that neutralized Suhs speed, quickness AND power. Kelce has routinely struggled with big and powerful DTs and hasn’t been playing up to his normal standard for the majority of the year. Tobin and Barbre flanking him at guard should be seen as a huge matchup concern against someone like Suh. I could see Suh being held in check, but I can just as easily see him going off this week and completely shutting down our entire offense single handedly if we can’t keep him from getting consistent quick hitting pressure up the middle. And, I don’t even want to think about his dirty ass hitting Sproles on a run up the middle. Hopefully, we relegate Sproles to being a pass catcher and outside/sweep runner against him. Leave the inside runs to guys like Murray and Mathews who can handle getting hit by Suh without getting destroyed.
On offense, their outside WRs don’t concern me at all, but I worry about Jenkins on Landry in the slot. Just like Suh, I can easily see him being held in check, but just as easily can see him taking over the game and converting long third down after long third down. Let’s hope our pass rushers dominate their crappy and injured Oline and take that threat away before they even have a chance to exploit it. I’m confident that we can keep Millers production to a respectable level, but I worry about him on screens and some quick hitting plays if Mychal or Kiko over pursue.
Overall though, there’s just too much to like about our matchup with this team to not be confident this week. Biggest concern will be keeping Suh in check. If he doesn’t destroy the offense by himself, we’ll score enough points that Landry and Miller won’t be able to keep up.

Awesome article! Very interesting
I agree with Jernst; interesting read.
So instead of “trap game” I’m going with “unfocused bunch of gutless pukes who choked a game in which they were heavily favored and heads should roll!”
I think youre going to see lots of sweep/bubble screen/swing routes.
Two reasons
1. Dolphins are pretty thin on the DL and don’t rotate. The only quality backup they have is Jordan Phillips and he’s more of a war daddy and has only played 20% of snaps (for reference Beau has played 28% for us). Get them running sideline to sideline. It will help slow down Suh and Vernon.
2. They have two sub 5’9 CBs. Make them tackle. If you can get Huff 1 on 1 vs either of them I like his chances to go off today.
2a. I like the chances of the ball going off of Huff’s hands again.
Couldn’t agree more! I like both those ideas.
I think we will see the same on the opposite side of the ball as well. Lots of screens and short slant routes to Jarvis Landry. I’m sure he’s going to be the primary concern of our defense. Well him, and Lamar Miller.
The only reason this game isn’t a “trap” game in my mind is that we’re not good enough to mentally take games off. If the Eagles are 9-5 after a win over Arizona, the Washington game (revenge and all) could wind up being a trap if we’re overly focused on the Giants because they got lucky enough to not be eliminated as well.
Amen. I hate the idea of folks thinking we can lose a ‘trap’ game. Trap games are reserved for good teams who have established a culture of winning. Eagles haven’t won a playoff game in nearly a decade. How about we win at least 1 game in the postseason before we put ourselves above other teams.
This has probably been my biggest gripe with this organization over the past 7-8 years. From the media to the fans to the players. I just feel like there has been this exceedingly annoying sense of accomplishment without the accomplishment. The past few years have been nowhere near as bad as the ‘Dream Team’ years, but you still get the sense that people grossly overrate our potential.
Sorry that this is a tad threadjack-ish, but

I guess Dana White and his writers want Holm and Rousey to trade off the belt like McMahon’s writers never let the same guy be WWE champ for too long at one time.
I agree with Tommy completely; there are no circumstances where losing to Miami is appropriate. Same goes for Tampa next week and Detroit on Thanksgiving.
What will make me happy today for NFL games:
Green Bay over Detroint – Round 3 pick 1; here we come
Tampa over Dallas – keep piling on the misery
Tennessee over Carolina – Duh
St. Louis over Chicago – The Rams, sans cheap shots on QBs on my fantasy team, are a fun team to watch.
New Orleans over Washington – More losses for Washington please. A lot more losses.
Pittsburgh over Cleveland – I don’t often root for Pittsburgh, but when I do I prefer to see them humble that scrambling clown Johhny Streetball.
Baltimore over Jacksonville – The Ravens winning seems to upset people in Pittsburgh, so we’ll go with that.
Minnesota over Oakland – I’d enjoy seeing the Raiders make a playoff run, but I’d rather see the Vikings make one……………because I picked the Vikings in the playoffs at the start of the season.
Pats over Giants – I really really really hate the Giants, don’t dislike New England, and would LOVE to see the lame 72 Dolphins shut up with a team going 19-0.
Denver over KC – I enjoy watching Denver
Seattle over Arizona – y’all hate Arians, so we’ll go with that. Also, Seattle winning out is part of my master plan for keeping unworthy teams/QBs from advancing too far in the NFC playoffs.
Cincy over Houston – The longer the Bengals keep winning, the longer I’ll enjoy it.
Not sure how closely any of y’all follow college football, but did everybody on Temple’s team spend all of Friday night smoking weed and partying with beach babes???????
That loss to USF was not ok.
This is actually our third chance to get above .500 this year. Atlanta thwarted our first attempt.
You mean we thwarted our own attempt against Atlanta.
Agreed that we’d rather not think about the loss side of things, but minor signs of improvement included, this Eagles team is quite capable of losing any of the next three games against the Fins, Bucs, and Lions, and possibly more than 1 loss.
For now though lets scrape out a W over the Fins. Take 1st place. Baby steps. Move forward.
Oh, and cheer like hell for the Bucs to pile on today. Fuck Dallas .
I agree that we could lose to any of those teams if we continue to cause self-inflicted wounds.
It might work if you take out the slash in the first bold tag.
Okay maybe not.

Beg pardon?
Fingers crossed that he’s ready to go.

He is more than welcome to sit out up through the New England game, so he can be 100% for the stretch drive of the final four games.
Concur. Dallas supposedly beter d than Mia and we held our own with no JP. Get healthy.
I’m also looking forward to JP stoning that one handed dope JPP in the season finale.
Best title Ive read in a while.
Any suggestions for a streaming site for the game? It’s not being shown here in my area.
first row sports
I don’t know why I can never remember that.
Just a saw a tweet that Rookie McCain is starting in place of Brent Grimes for Flipper.
