DeMeco Gone

The Eagles made it official on Wednesday, cutting LB DeMeco Ryans. We all knew this was going to happen. While Ryans is loved by everyone in the organization, he’ll turn 32 this summer and is a declining player at a position where  the Eagles have 3 talented young players. Ryans had to go.

It saves the Eagles money, which they can now funnel to a free agent. Or Sam Bradford or Fletcher Cox.

Ryans was a good player and great leader for the Eagles over the past 4 seasons. Coaches, players and even management…everyone loved him. That was true in Houston and Philly. The problem is that a leader needs to be on the field. With the Eagles shift to the 4-3 defense and the presence of Jordan Hicks, Mychal Kendricks and Kiko Alonso, there just wasn’t room for Ryans. If he played for $800K and embraced being a backup, I’m sure the Eagles would love to have him around.

Ryans thinks he has more left in the tank. He’ll hunt for a starting job. And he could be a good fit for someone looking for a short term fix. Ryans wasn’t terrible in 2015 by any stretch. He made some key plays in the first win over the Giants. They tried to pick on him, but he made them pay. Ryans still has some games where he can do that.

Good luck to DeMeco, wherever he goes.

*****

The Scouting Combine has started. That means lots of press conferences.

Doug Pederson

Howie Roseman

There wasn’t anything groundbreaking. We did learn that the Eagles are talking/going to talk to Tom Condon, Sam Bradford’s agent. They want him back, if the price is right.

Roseman talked about the fact the Eagles are looking at other QBs as well. They don’t have a starter in place right now so if things don’t work out with Bradford, they need a Plan B for 2016. Roseman also talked about drafting a QB, which it sounds like the team will do if at all possible.

Jimmy Bama has the quotes here.

This doesn’t mean pick 13 is automatically a QB. There may be a scenario they prefer where they bring back Bradford and then use a mid-round pick on some other QB they think is a better fit. We assume the Eagles will want one of the big 3 QBs (Goff/Wentz/Lynch), but you never know.

I thought both Roseman and Pederson did pretty well at their PCs. With Roseman, you wondered if the Chip Kelly questions would lead things in a weird direction. He only got a few of those questions and handled them well. Pederson has gotten much better since his intro PC at the NovaCare. He’s more comfortable and more natural now.

The only thing Pederson said that bugged me was when he talked about bringing back Mark Sanchez. I was hoping the team would move on from him this year. To be fair, Sanchez may get the best QB coaching of his career this season. Under Kelly, QBs didn’t improve the way I expected. With Pederson, Frank Reich and John DeFillipo, Sanchez will have 3 coaches who have had some success with QBs in the NFL. Maybe keeping him is the smart way to go.

Pederson did talk about the importance of leadership for a QB. Sounds obvious, but the fact he talked about that means he thinks that is more important than some other qualities. We’ll have to keep that in mind when looking at draft prospects.

Pederson did also say he wanted a veteran defensive coach so that he could “turn over the keys” to him and let that guy run the defense. Andy Reid had the same mentality when he hired Jim Johnson. Jim Schwartz doesn’t need to be micro-managed since he has run a defense for several years and even been a head coach. Pederson has the freedom to focus on the offense, while also adjusting to being a head coach at the NFL level. Smart thinking and smart move.

Sanchez, to me, means the team isn’t moving forward. Maybe he’s ok for a game or 2 vs. a weak opponent. Maybe. If plan A is Bradford(which I’m ok with, but can he play the season) or B a rookie – Sanchez will see extended play. He’s just not good enough. Can he learn with new coaches? I’m sure he can. In a back up role, most of the season, how much is he really going to learn in 1/2 a year before he plays. Not a fan of the move.
    …..
The flip side is, I guess, he’s a trooper, doesn’t complain, listens and probably helps etc etc. I’ll trade up and coming talent over someone like this though…

Im hoping he is only still on the roster as temporary Insurance since he Is the only NFL QB we have under contract… Adding 3 new QB in one offseason is rough, but hopefully if are able to get 3 new QB by the end of the draft allowing us to cut/trade Sanchez … But there is a real possibility he will be back with us this year
    ..
Curious to see who will be the first surprise cut, coop and Meco were obvious cuts.
    ..
Sounds like the Eagles made it clear that JP won’t be a surprise cap casualty this year

I guess it all comes down to Bradford? What if he signs 5 year deal? Would either side want that? So say he signs 5 years – could be a sign no QB will be drafted and Sanchez stays. If they sign him to 2-3 years, maybe draft a young QB. If that’s the case, might as well as have him number 2 and let Sanchez go.

  5. 5 Gian GEAGLE said at 3:06 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Bradford, will probably sigń a “5 year deal”, but in reality it will have earlier escape clauses built in just like just about every contract Roseman has ever handed out… So while it may be propped up as this massive Longterm contract, in reality it will b a deal we can get out of after year two, or yeàr 3 at the Latest….
    ..
I want Sanchez gone! My Ideal scenario for us is to Sign SAM as the #1, replace Sanchez with Chase Daniels as our #2, and draft a QB this year or next….. That’s what I would hope for, whether we can accomplish all that in one offseason, is probably a stretch, but that’s what I hope we are striving for

  6. 6 Dominik said at 9:14 AM on February 25th, 2016:

Maybe playing in Pedersons offense COULD bring out the best of Sanchez. He’s pretty good over the middle, between the numbers on short passes, round about 10 Yards after the LoS. He has a good pocket movement. He pretty much sucks with everything else (outside the numbers, intermediate and deep passes, decision making, obviously), but those are his strenghts. And the WCO kind of has those traits as well.

I’m not rooting for Sanchez by any means, but maybe that’s what Pederson is thinking right now.

  7. 7 ChoTime said at 2:11 PM on February 25th, 2016:

It could, but the best is not good enough. Despite that legendary playoff run, he just doesn’t seem to have the decision making ability.

  8. 8 RogerPodacter said at 11:13 AM on February 25th, 2016:

i’m guessing that we hold onto him until we know we have something better. if bradford signs, or we get a mid-low tier guy in FA, or something like that, he could be dropped real quick after.

but i don’t see the good in dumping Sanchez while Bradford can still go elsewhere, we might not get any QB in the draft or FA.
i think we’re stuck with him for a little while.

I have no interest in gauging each others resolve over issues we have no control. I do find it tiring though when people take the stance that if they say something loud enough and often enough, it somehow becomes true.

I know we all love to hate Sanchez, myself included. He is one of the best backup QBs in the league, though, and it isn’t like he is holding back some young prospect trapped in the QB3 slot.

If we get a young guy that deserves the reps and room to grow, great. Until then, QB is too important to skimp on the backup. I think Sanchez is the best option we have at this point.

  54. 54 EaglesGameBalls said at 10:03 AM on February 25th, 2016:

why are you talking about the backup QB??

  55. 55 A_T_G said at 10:06 AM on February 25th, 2016:

Some of us find it fun to actually read the articles and then discuss the ideas that Tommy brings up.

  56. 56 Cafone said at 10:08 AM on February 25th, 2016:

I think we can stop saying Sanchez is one of the best backups in the league now. He was one of the best backups in the league in 2014. He sucked in 2015.

If your backup QB is going to go 0-2 when he has a chance to play, then does it really matter who it is? You may as well have a developmental project, or someone who is an asset on the sideline like Clipboard Jesus. You may as well at least have someone who isn’t costing you $5.5 million against the cap to eat chicken fingers on the sideline while waiting to throw interceptions.

  57. 57 BobSmith77 said at 10:13 AM on February 25th, 2016:

Hard to say given how are the backups but yeah he was terrible last year.

I still don’t think it’s a lock he is here next year either especially if they sign Daniel and draft a QB high early on. If they go that route, I could see Sanchez getting traded for spare parts (7th round).

  58. 58 Dave said at 10:33 AM on February 25th, 2016:

Unless you are grooming a future starting QB (like was done with Rodgers and Kaepernick), I think a backup QB should have one main responsibility…run the offense as a game manager without turning it over. Sanchez doesn’t fit either mold. When he comes into a game, bad things tend to happen on offense.

  59. 59 A_T_G said at 12:49 PM on February 25th, 2016:

    That is certainly valid.

  60. 60 bill said at 12:39 PM on February 25th, 2016:

I’m really down on Sanchez, don’t want him as starter, etc., etc. But after watching Alex Smith tape from the last 2 years, I think Sanchez can play that role fairly well. Sanchez obviously is worse, especially in propensity to throw picks, but he can approximate that style.

Not that I think that’s saying a lot, but there might be fair amount of comfort there for Pederson.

  61. 61 ChoTime said at 2:15 PM on February 25th, 2016:

No way, Bill. They are totally different in the way that counts: Sanchez will kill you with turnovers, Smith will not.

  62. 62 bill said at 3:50 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Again, I conceded that he’s gonna throw more picks, and that he is obviously worse in general. So I’m conceding that Smith is obviously the better choice. I’m just saying, as far as a stopgap, placeholder type of guy, I can see Pederson having interest in that arrangement.

I really hope I’m wrong, and it’s making me want to vomit, but this is what stood out to me while watching some tape of Smith. Sanchez can run this offense, even if he ultimately causes losses by throwing picks. But there is nothing I’ve seen so far that I said “Sanchez can’t do that.”

It sounds like Bradford is insisting he gets a huge payday and the Roseman isn’t going to budge. Can’t blame him either especially because signing Bradford and extending Cox before the draft create a lot of issues over the next 2 years from a cap-space perspective.

  81. 81 EaglesGameBalls said at 10:15 AM on February 25th, 2016:

I am sure they low balled him with an Eagles’ friendly offer and said that is our last offer. That’s it. So they can say we offered him a contract and he didn’t take it. Now we move on. It’s all right here in these press conferences.

  82. 82 BobSmith77 said at 10:19 AM on February 25th, 2016:

That’s quite possible too. I don’t want Bradford back here on a large-sized deal because I don’t see him being good enough to build around. Beyond the injury risk factor too which is another big issue.

Sign Daniel and be prepared to go through a rebuilding year next year where they win 4-6 games. The only thing I wouldn’t want to see them do if they go that route is feel they have to draft a QB high in the draft his year either.

Having to draft for a perceived ‘need’ in the 1st round with a bunch of middling prospects isn’t a sound strategy.

  83. 83 EaglesGameBalls said at 10:21 AM on February 25th, 2016:

I totally agree. especially with the glaring holes on OL. I said this probably since Chip Kelly’s first game of this past season. The OL is so bad, you can’t bring in a young QB onto this team as it is and expect him to succeed.

They will draft OL OL OL OL OL LB LB CB CB bring in Mario Williams, Chase Daniels then next year draft QB.

Ditto drafting a G mid-round to potentially pencil in as a depth guy who might start late in the year or in ’17. That I see as being an almost lock pick (3rd-4th round).

He has been around this long so he knows how to play the office politics game well including burying the other guys.

Roseman deserves 2 if not really 3 years to put his stamp on this team with Pederson as the HC. That includes even a step back next year if they go 5-11/6-10 too in a rebuilding year. Fans and media will howl but honestly is the direction I think they are better off tanking over the more intermediate/longer-term.

Then this knucklehead troll came on here during the Eagles preseason and told us we were all wrong. We did everything we could to get rid of him. But in the end he was right and we were wrong. Our assholes hurt really bad Tommy. Our clique doesn’t like to be wrong like that and we don’t want to be reminded of how wrong and dumb we are. Please get rid of the troll.

  199. 199 Novembrine said at 3:36 PM on February 25th, 2016:

They are keeping Sanchez for the same reasons they are keeping Bradford: they have no other viable option if the team wants to compete for anything of significance this season.

It likely will not work out, but the reality is the Eagles will do any rebuilding on the fly and, with a new coaching staff and Howie back in control, the win now mode remains engaged.

Hopefully, they still get a young QB they can develop this off-season so we have better options down the road. Also hope those who ripped McNabb relentlessly for years understand now how nice it was to have a real franchise QB on the team. This QB purgatory we’ve been in since we traded him away has sucked big time.

  210. 210 P_P_K said at 2:04 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Great call on Mandarich AC. I still remember that draft as if it were yesterday even though I was just a child. Didn’t the Packers draft him before Deion Sanders and Barry Sanders if I am not mistaken?

  215. 215 ACViking said at 3:34 PM on February 25th, 2016:

    TD!!!

Yes, that 1989 draft was loaded.

    Here’s just 4 of the top 5:

    Troy Aikman – 1 . . . HOF
    Barry Sanders – 3 . . . HOF
    Derrick Thomas – 4 . . . HOF
    Deion Sanders – 5 . . . HOF

And the Pack went for Mandarich — one season after the NFLPA agreed to steroid-testing.

  216. 216 TypicalDouche said at 3:38 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Wow I forgot about Derrick Thomas being in that draft. What a kick in the balls that the Packers, as great of an organization they are, chose the only top 5 pick of that draft that wasn’t a HOFer.

Can still clearly remember reading the Tony Mandarich cover story while sitting in my doctor’s office waiting room. Strange how trivia can really stick with you.

Bradford is going to chase the money, and we are going to give some money to Chase o start the year at qb. I hope we pick up a young qb in the draft at 13 too.

  223. 223 Gian GEAGLE said at 2:59 PM on February 25th, 2016:

les Bowan claims that from the people he spoke with from the Texans, it doesn’t sound like they plan on making an offer for Bradford… For whatever that’s woth.
    ..
denver, Jets and skins all sound pretty adament about keeping their QBs.., It Only takes one team to screw up the market, but there are some signs pointing to the possibility of Bradford not finding this big market many have expected.
    ..
Regardless, because of who his agent is, I doubt we see a resolution in the next few days. If we do work out an extension before he reaches free agency, it will most likely come down to the very last minute with his agent playing hard ball TIL then… Of course there is a real possibility that they opt not to sign anything before reaching the open market..
    ..
Whatever happens with Sam, they better not dare bring Chase Daniels to Philly. when Doug Pederson compares a QB to Doug Pederson, that’s all we need to know about Chase…
    ..
As long as Mark Sanchez is an Eagle, I view adding Chase as Pointless. They are the same player.. If they want to REPLACE Sanchez with Chase, that at least makes some more sense to me… The only thing Chase has over Sanchez is that he knows some of Dougs offense.. I can see value in cutting Sanchez, making Chase Daniels the #2 who can help Bradford and a rookie learn all the verbiage in the west coast offense. Chase also allegedly helped Alex Smith a lot as his #2. If chase wants to come in and replace Sanchez. I could see value in that idea… But Chase can only be a replacement for Sanchez, Not for Bradford

Doesn’t chase only have like 1’career TD?
    ..
I actually wouldn’t mind bringing him into philly as a replacement for Sanchez, backing up bradford and helping to groom a rookie who can start off as the #3… Im just not so sure you can bring SAM back. Replace Sanchez with Chase AND find a young QB to groom in the same Offseason.
    ,,
But the only way Id want Chase is as a replacement for sanchez

If you don’t like the “clique”, leave it. Immediately. If you can’t or won’t, you have to ask yourself what is so broken in you that you need to continue engaging in conversation you don’t like.

You aren’t winning anything, you aren’t proving anything, you aren’t achieving anything.

You are redefining “waste of time”. Your own in addition to ours. Go away.

  234. 234 laeagle said at 3:59 PM on February 25th, 2016:

I think the question you need to ask is “why”. You don’t enjoy the “clique”, you never post anything positive, you’re negative and abusive. I think if this is how you want to spend your time, you need to sit down and rethink your life choices.

  235. 235 EaglesGameBalls said at 4:00 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Why are you judging me? I came on here and said Chip Kelly wasn’t a good coach and from that day on people on this blog have resorted to personal insults. Just because my opinion is differnt than yours doesnt mean I am a coward that should eat his own shit.

  236. 236 laeagle said at 4:08 PM on February 25th, 2016:

No, that’s not at all what happened. You came on here tossing around insults at everyone, dropping curses and generally acting like a petulant child. From day 1. You’ve done nothing but make basic, factless claims, and attacked anyone who didn’t agree with you. My judgments are not against you, except that I am judging your behavior.

The fact that you’re complaining about being someone who “should eat his own shit”, without taking ownership of the fact that you yourself offered to do just that, in a crude attempt at proving some ridiculous point, is pretty strong evidence that you’re not owning up to what you have done.

You did not come to this place as an innocent, who was then insulted and trolled at every turn. You came in as a troll, acted like a troll, and filled the board up with garbage posts, repetition, insults, and attacks. That is not why ANYONE else comes here. There is a place where that sort of behavior is expected, but it is not here. If there is any kind of “clique” here, it’s a clique of people who don’t troll, who don’t act like they’re 12 years old, and who at least try to respect one another.

If you don’t want to stop trolling, attacking, and insulting, while then acting like somehow you are the aggrieved party after you are called on your actions, then I don’t think this is the place for you. Evidently I can’t stop you posting. But again, you really need to ask yourself why you would want to come here. If it’s simply for the sick thrill of pissing people off, or “ruffling feathers”, then again, I’d ask you to ask yourself what is so broken that you need to engage in that kind of behavior.

I have said all I am going to say on the topic, and will now return to ignoring you, until such time as you decide to act like something approximating an adult.

  237. 237 EaglesGameBalls said at 4:14 PM on February 25th, 2016:

“Our Job is acquiring Talent, not getting rid of Talent”-Chip Kelly
    ..
For the first time made strong statements sounding Adament about working with Kapernick. Of course you can’t believe a word chip says, but from the outside looking in, You have to imagine that a big part about Chip getting that Job was being a last ditch effort by Baalke to Salvage Kapernicks niners career..the other side of the coin is Kapernick seems like the type of guys that chip has no patiemce for.. If chip actually tries to make it work with KAp, maybe he is willing to evolve and learn from his mistakes.but it’s hard to tell since he just experienced a Fall from Grace, and no longer has the Cache and power to get rid of talemted pro players who rub him the wrong way..
    .,
Chip also goes into his spiel about how he has no idea where people got the idea that he wasn’t excited about working with KAp, and how you can easily see how talented he is, as if Everyone is stupid and didn’t watch him refuse to even talk about KAp and barely said his name during his introductory press Confrence. Hiding behind NFL rules not allowing him to talk about KAp which is BS, yet in the same press confrenfe, he had no problem continuosly talking up Gabbert
    ,,
When Andy left Philly, I really wasn’t interested in what would happen in KC… But with chip, im very curious to see if this fall from grace has taught him anything, and very much interested to see what he does different next yeàr, if his ego even no allows him to do anything different

  280. 280 Novembrine said at 3:29 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Agreed- very interested to see what happens in SFO this season. I have a feeling Chip will have learned from the Philly experience. As stubborn as he is, he’s also a smart guy who is willing to take risks. They didn’t work out here but I have a feeling he might have a few cards up his sleeve. It’ll be fun to watch.

  281. 281 Gian GEAGLE said at 3:52 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Very interesting indeed… On one hand we know that the man is bright and has legit Football IQ… On the other hand he seems so damn stubborn. From the outside looking in, its hard for us to see the entire picture, but while he was our coach, I always worried that because everyone talked so much trash about his college background, and how his GIMICKY college offense wouldmt work, I always worried/wondered if he felt that making the Neccessary changes would be proving all his haters right, so I worried if winning HIS way, was always more important than winning, And if thats the case, that’s a level of egomania that he will never be able to overcome…
    ..
it’s Hard enough to win in the NFL if you use every bit of Football Knowledge you ever accumulated. Trying to win in the NFL only using a small fraction of that knowledge IMO will prove to be impossible. I will never agree with EXTREMES, and chip was the king of Extremes, and IMO lacking balance is a big problem with his philosophies… Even when his offense is destroying the league, you WILL NEVER be able to convince me that ONLY linning up in Shotgun is the best way to play football. You will NEVER convince me that ALWAYS trying to snap the ball as fast as possible is the best way to play Football… And it has Nothing to do with the actual Shotgun formation or his offense, I would NEVER want to see us ONLY line up in Single, or ALWAYS line up in I-formation.. This extreme is ridiculuos. So many great plays, concepts, formations that have proven to be successful, I don’t see how ignoring all of it, to line up in Shotgun 99% of the time can be a geat idea. I can’t be convinced that linning up in the Gun is Always the best way to attack EVERY defense that we can possibly face, no matter what down and distance..
    ..
After how he crashed and Burned in Philly, is it really possible that he is going to come out next yeàr and have the Niners lineup in Shotgun the entire season? I will be amazed if he tries to do that again with the second chamce he was lucky to be given by the Niners… If he has the Niners using Tempo out of Shotgun 99% of the time, I will be amazed by the insanity of it all.
    ..
But when you look at his Coachng Career, for the most part, it’s what he does, it’s what he knows. He has been playing Football this way since New Hampshire. He did it there, he did it in Oregon, and he did it in Philly, maybe im the crazy one For thinking he will do somethng different? Maybe I give his football IQ too much credit assuming he is choosing to only use a small portion of his football Knowledge, maybe this ia all he knows after committing to this style YEARS ago… The guy has only coached football for a little more than a decade, most of which he spent playing his unique brand of football. maybe I give him too much credit when I expect him to do something different.
    ..
Whatever happens, for sure it will be an interesting subplot to Follow next season
    ..
Im wondering if he will start his niners career, not drafting a QB in the first two rounds the way he did here in 203

I guess, like if you catch your kid smoking cigarettes, you make them smoke a whole pack right there. This works against trolls… well, almost never. It also has the side effect of shitting all over the comment section and really defacing it and making it intolerable to a bunch of regular people.

Perhaps we are also hoping that Tommy will finally take notice and ban the troll. He could do that, but it is against his preferences and the troll could easily make another login and come back. It takes much more effort to control the troll than the effort a troll expends. They enjoy that and consider it a win. I think almost everyone knows that the surefire way to control a troll is just to ignore it. This requires a great deal of discipline, like dieting or not watching two episodes of your favorite Netflix TV show in a row. Yet, it works. And living well is the best revenge!

When are you going to man up and eat your own shit because Bradford played more then 4 games last year? Since you’re clearly not a real man of your word stop instigating people on here like you would own up to losing a bet if you did lose. You are a coward that only acknowledges when you are right, yet when you are wrong or like when the Eagles were winning the few games they won last year you would disappear for a while.

I really like hearing how Pederson talks about how their first year in KC, they tried to make the players fit their scheme, and it turned out to be a Huge Mistake, which apparently they learned from and then started to listen to their players like Alex, and after that first year they shelved their schemes and really started to morph the schemes around the talent they had…holy Shit, a HC who admits they made a mistake, learned from it, and evolved because of it,… What a novel concept. considering Chip kelly STILL hasn’t admitted half of this much, I don’t know how great of coach DP will be, but it is nice to hear that we have a HC who has already learned this lesson, has no problem admitting it.
    ..
I think he is absolutely right where he talks about the mess chip created with our RB’s, putting together 3 different style RBs, and thinking you could pretend that they were just interchangeable and could ask all 3 to run the same plays. I very much look forward to seeing what these RBs can do behind some adequate run blocking Guards we lacked last year, and most important, im very much looking forward to how Potent our RBs can be, with Doug designing Specifc packages for each RB that will highlight all of their strengths and put each RB in the best possible position to succeed.. I would think our RBs will be very excited about this change, Murray knowing he won’t spend a year running sideline to sideline, out of the Gun, wiith inadequate blocking.
    .
going into last season with a QB who hadn’t played in two years, and an offseason were we invested more than anyone in RBs, a Potent RB Attack for Bradford to play off of was supposed to be a big part especially early in the year while Bradford was easing his way back into game. That couldn’t have been further from reality. our Run game was a friggin TRAINWRECK to start the season, it did NOTHING to help SAM, in Sams second game back, our run game made the Cowboys defense look like the steel curtain. They beat the breaks off our run game. for me, This was one Of chips greatest failures, to not have a run game that could protect SAM Early in the season was malpractice on Chips part, especially when we were supposed to have an Embarressment of riches at RB we were paying a ton for…. Fixing this run game, should be #1 on Pedersons to do list, SAM will be better, just from getting last year under his belt. he should be even Better now that he has an offseason to work on his craft and chemistry with his WRs instead of rehabbing an injury all Offseasn… Putting him behind a quality run game, should be a big addition for SAM. get that run game going, open up some play action opportunity down field will be a luxury he didn’t get to enjoy enough last year.. I don’t know how great Murray can be at this stage, but im pretty certain chip couldn’t have used him worse than he did last year, so it should be pretty easy for Murray and Pederson to provide a better run game than SAM got to play Off of last year.
    ..
One of Sams strengths is supposed to be his football IQ. That gets neutralized often when the goal is to count how many guys are in the box and snap the ball as fast as possible…Allowing SAM to slow the pace down, get the defense to tip its hand pre snap, and give him the freedome to Audible into plays that better take advantage of what the defense is going to throw at us, should also put Bradford in a better position than Chip did. For a coach who was getting the most out of so many of our offensive players, it blows my mind what a horrible job chip did last year, when he needed to do his best job yet starting the season with a QB who hasn’t played in two years and only started practicing August 1st…. Chip did such a poor job with the OL, QB and RBs last year, that I can’t help but be excited to see how much better these same playërs can be next year… Normally I would expect the most growth from young WRs that are still developing, but chip did a poor job with so much of the offense, that Im convinced there is more to all our returning skill players even at this stage in a guy like Murrays career… How much better? I have no idea. But no one would dare claim that chip put him in the best position to succeed…. Since we can’t get out of his contract this offseason, it’s up to Pederson to salvage that signing

    – This notion makes no sense to me. All of them were here last year, with 2 spots for the 4 of them to play. Demeco got an extension. Now they have more spots, and no room. Nawww. The Demeco extension was a pretty stupid move in the first place, and a remaining legacy of Chip. That had to be removed. I thought the move and the money was dumb at the time. It sure worked out to be a good move though. He is the only guy that you could count on. He stayed healthy and produced at the level you expected from him. The other guys either couldn’t stay healthy, didn’t produce as expected when healthy, or both.

I guess the money he was due is the reasoning and it is legit. I guess when Hicks gets hurt again we will find the next Jamar Chaney.

In a 4-3, at this stage of his career, Mufasa can only play the MIKE spot
    .
As a backup, he would provide NO VERSATILITY, and can only play on 1st and 2nd down, can’t play in subpackages unless you are defending the run on 3rd and short
    .
As a backup, he can’t play special Teams..
    ..
For almost 4mil, we should be able to get a LB that brings more to a backup spot than only being able to play the MIKE spot on 1st and 2nd down…. And with 3 youmg LBs that all have durability concerns, for 4mil, Id like to have a backup Who can be a 3 down LB if someone gets hurt and we need him to fill in for half a season.. I don’t know if they will take the money we cleared from cutting him, and invest it in a backup LB that brings more to the table than we get from MEco at this stage, but if we are going to pay 4mil for a backup LB, he has to give us more than Mufasa would have been able to…. Probably don’t need to pay 4mil for a backup MIKE who can only play on 1st and 2nd down..
    ..
curious to see If we target a LB in free agency, or wait Til the draft, either way, we can bet that a LB addition or two are on the way..

There are some decent names in Free Agency who could be quality additipns for us:

Ideally: Danny Travathan! In today’s NFL I love how This kid can cover on 3rd down, but also bring a physical presence to the denver defense. id love to have this 26yr old beast that gets better every year, but that’s highly unrealistic for this offseason.. It’s going to take BIG MONEY to get him out of Denver, and we are in no position to give it to him. So just admire him from a far, and hope one of our Rivals don’t pry him away from Denver.
    .
There are plenty LB with a connection to Shwartz, tulloch, Nigel Bradham, Tahir
    1) Tulloch, signing 31yr old from other teams make no sense to me, unless we talking OL…
    2) Bradham: coming off a down year, could possibly be had on a prove it deal, I liked the kid, but the problem is he is very similar to Kendricks, and if we are going to pay a LB, I think it’s more important that he can be strong side Insuramce in case we don’t like how Kiko looks in camps. Unlikely we pay a KEndricks type this offseason
    3) 26yr old Tahir Whitehead, who had a strong second half this past yeàr. not bad in coverage, but apparently he was pretty badass against the run down the stretch
    ..
There is 27yr old Demario Davis who was one of the defenders that seemed hurt by the change from Rex to Bowles this year, but I remember liking his game in that Rex defense.
    .
Zack Brown never lived up to his potential. if you can get him cheap, the kid could be a coverage LB in subpackages, but I don’t trust him at all as a 3down LB, and like Bradham he would back up KEndricks, and we really need someone to back up Kiko as our #1 LB priority…
    ..
Jarnell Freeman is another 30yr old, but he came off one of his best years (expiring contract dynamic?)
    .
Justin Durrant is another 30yr old who I like as a Subpackage guy in coverage, but who I don’t trust against the run

If we do pay a LB in free agency I assume it would be one of the cheaper options, even tho we have so many questions about our starters… Naje Goode backs up KEndricks, so if we are going to spend Mufasa’s money on a LB, IDEALLY he will have strong side and MIKE LB versatility, but a contingency plan to Kiko’s health woes have to be addressed via FA or the Draft,.. A LB will def be drafted, whether we also sigń one or not, is the question. Im sure we would like to, but our cap may not afford that luxury unil next offseason

You know they have been saying he can’t cover the pass for years. He has consistently been our best pass defender. Not because he is great at it, but because you know what he can do. Ryans was here before Chip. He is still known as a great veteran presence in the locker room. Chip needed veteran leadership, as a new coach. It was a good move to keep him, injury or not. Head coaches have to look at the whole picture, not just one player’s stats.

  346. 346 Tumtum said at 7:23 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Yep, didn’t think he was signed by Chip. He was extended by Chip the GM though. It was a deal that was really kind of goofy with the numbers for the player. His deal had not expired. It was an extension of a deal that was still in place.

That’s how I feel about the Celek signing this year…unless of course there’s more importance put on two TE’s sets…I get it’s not a lot of money but it’s still money..

  348. 348 Tumtum said at 8:30 AM on February 26th, 2016:

I dunno. Brent is still better than LJ Smith ever was. Money well spent. Let me be clear I was happy Meco was extended. Just not for what he was.

    Not accurate.

The Dallas PD has merely sent its investigative file to the DA’s office.

The DA’s office will decide IF the matter will go before a grand jury.

To date, no public statement of the DA’s office confirms any intent to present to the GJ.

So much for chips daily dose of bullshit today talking up Kaperick, apparently KAp requested permission to start seeking a trade…. Starting to wonder if chip is just a pathological liar, this goes past coach speak and not tipping your hand, finally choosing today to talk up KAp for the first time, and hours later a report of requesting permission for a trade emerges.. Hope San Fran fans don’t care half as much as we do

Interesting to compare if Rhodes was a bigger bust or Kelly here. You could make a strong case either way.

I had little respect for Rhodes and he got canned after a single season in GB. If Kelly does better in SF, maybe your argument for Kelly is stronger.

#Eagles brass – Howie Roseman/Doug Pederson – met w/ Tom Condon (Sam Bradford’s agent) yesterday at the combine. Negotiations are ongoing.

  360. 360 Gian GEAGLE said at 6:19 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Les Bowan tweets that talking to someone from the Texans, it sounds like they have no intention of bidding on Bradford

  361. 361 TypicalDouche said at 6:31 PM on February 25th, 2016:

I think you’re right. I believe Bradford/Condon truly believe that his value is through the roof but may realize the market for his services may not be as significant as they think. I don’t fault players for trying to make as much money as possible but I don’t see a team overbidding the Eagles for Bradford’s services. Also believe that Lurie-Roseman have a set price in mind for him and they will stick to it.

  362. 362 Ray888 said at 9:50 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Condon doesn’t “settle” for a deal; he creates value even where there isn’t any. Why sign in February when by August some competitive team may be facing a giant void with an injured starter. Bradford could take personal control of the process if he truely wants to stay, but Condon clients typically don’t do so.

  363. 363 FairOaks said at 9:13 AM on February 26th, 2016:

Waiting until August would be a ridiculous risk. Most teams have used up the majority of their cap by then, and don’t have room for a big salary. If he’s looking for a (very) low prove-it contract, that’d work, but if you are looking for the big bucks, you sign early-ish in free agency when teams are setting their budgets.

Condon’s best work is when he can get a team to bid against itself. But that leverage will fade the longer Bradford doesn’t sign in March — perhaps there will be teams which hold out space until the draft, and if they miss on a QB, could increase offers then. But not much beyond that.

  364. 364 RC5000 said at 6:36 PM on February 25th, 2016:

Yeah that owner really wants to draft someone (Hack?) unless they’re into RG3 also but I haven’t heard they’re interested in him.

He might not be aware of the situation, so sending screencaps of any offending comments would probably be helpful.

Just a suggestion. I think if he hears from enough people, he will take notice.
