EAGLES VALUE BOARD

This is my educated guess at the 150 or so players the Eagles have on their board and where they have them rated. Some players will be left off due to lack of scheme fit, character, medical concerns or other odd reasons. These are players the Eagles should like.

As to the values…that is a mixture of my rankings and my guess at the Eagles rankings. Please remember that just because a player is rated in a certain round doesn’t mean he’ll go there. The Eagles had 2nd round grades on Matt Barkley and Jordan Hicks. Both went later in the draft.

Now for some random Eagles draft thoughts.

There isn’t anything the Eagles “have to do”. They still have holes on the roster, but can fill those with veteran free agents to get by for 2016. That said, the team would like to plug some holes with Day 3 picks.

I think finding a backup MLB is key. They’ve checked out quite a few of these players. We don’t know who they like or if there is a player they covet. My preference is Steven Daniels because of his instincts and physicality.

The Eagles checked out a lot of Safeties. They would like to add someone there. I didn’t list Jeremy Cash or Miles Killebrew as potential targets. Both are big, physical players. Jim Schwartz needs good tacklers, but doesn’t want a pure box Safety. He likes guys that are somewhat interchangeable. K.J. Dillon of West Virginia fits that description, but the Eagles haven’t been linked to him. The Eagles did have Blake Countess, a S/CB, in for a visit. He could be a target.

I have no idea what’s going on at RB. The Eagles need help there, but that doesn’t mean they’ll draft one. I think we’re all shocked that Kenneth Dixon slid this far. I love him, but I don’t get the feeling the Eagles think the same way. Duce Staley did run a workout at Jordan Howard’s Pro Day and he’s the kind of big back that Doug Pederson had success with in KC. I just don’t know if Howard somehow slides to the 5th round. Peyton Barber is the kid I love. We’ll see if the Eagles have any interest.

Could the Eagles draft another QB? Possible, but not likely unless they are able to trade Sam Bradford. There are some interesting players still on the board. I’m shocked Kevin Hogan has lasted this long. The Eagles checked him out thoroughly. I doubt he lasts to the 5th, but if he does, it would be interesting to see if the team would be tempted to take him. I think it is more likely for the Eagles to add a UDFA to compete with McLeod Bethel-Thompson for the #4 spot.

There are some good OL still on the board. If Halapoulivaati Vaitai is still on the board in the 5th, he could be a terrific addition. Vaitai has the potential to be a LT. I could see Pederson loving John Theus from Georgia, arguably the meanest/dirtiest player in the draft. He was a LT at UGA, but projects to OG or RT in the NFL. He’s not my favorite player, but the Eagles might really want a player with his nasty streak.

Here is my ideal mock based on what has happened and who is left.

5th – DE Tyrone Holmes, Montana

5th – S Tyvis Powell, Ohio State

6th – ILB Steven Daniels, Boston College

7th – DT Trevon Coley, Florida Atlantic

7th – RB Peyton Barber, Auburn

*****

One thing I’m not sure about is there will be any trades. The Eagles have some pieces that could be dealt, but no one that is of significant value outside of of Sam Bradford and that situation is hard to read.

I’m sure Howie Roseman would love to add a 4th round pick or even some later picks, but I’m not sure he’ll be able to pull that off. It will be fun to see if Roseman can make any moves.

Connar Cook must Sacrafice puppies on his spare time..

  3. 3 Jernst said at 11:34 AM on April 30th, 2016:

Back-up MLB is a huge need. Just not sure if a rookie is the right way to go. A solid journey-man type veteran might be a more prudent way to address that hole. After that, I think the biggest needs on this team involve RB, WR, S, DT. Wouldn’t mind coming out of this 5th round with at least one playmaker at either RB or WR. Even with all the FA signings I wouldn’t be shocked to see them draft Listenbee. They spent an awful lot of time on him this offseason.

  4. 4 Gian GEAGLE said at 11:36 AM on April 30th, 2016:

No bigger of a need than Strong side LB…. Ideally we can find someone with MIKE and SAM versatility…. When our backups today are Skinner and Hepburn, don’t see how one can be considered a bigger need than the other,.. If we can’t get a kid capable of playing both, I want the best talent available no matter if it’s Sam or MIKE

  5. 5 Greg Richards said at 11:36 AM on April 30th, 2016:

Wait until the Lions cut Stephen Tulloch.

  6. 6 Gian GEAGLE said at 11:43 AM on April 30th, 2016:

I would think he will be looking for a team with a camp injury, before he agrees to sign on as a backup with the Eagles..
    ..
Think the Eagles need to add talent at LB that has a chance of still being here two years from now, before they settle for a Temporary band aid

  7. 7 Greg Richards said at 11:45 AM on April 30th, 2016:

Schwartz and Tulloch have a long history together. I can see that familiarity causing him to want to come here, even if it’s not for a starting job.

  8. 8 Gian GEAGLE said at 11:57 AM on April 30th, 2016:

Im aware of that… But I would think he looks for an opportunity to actually play since his career is coming to an end, but if he can’t find that opportunity, I would think he would then fall back on Familarity. I’d be happy to have him join us, regardless of what he has left in the Tank because he could help mentor hicks and our young players transitioning to This scheme… But we also have Bradham who knows this defense already.
    ..
Think the more the Lions wait to release him, the more time he has for a team to suffer an injury to a key starter
    ..
I would think a lifetime starter like him, who’s at the end of his career would look for a chance to play before signing on to be a mentor, but since it’s unrealistic to expect us to draft two LB’s, Id love to see us draft 1 and sigń Tulloch as a bandaid since I don’t know that Hepburn or skinner can play at this level yet. I’M just not sure we can afford to ignore LB and assume he will join us

    yes please

  10. 10 BlindChow said at 12:15 PM on April 30th, 2016:

Do you think they’re holding onto him for injury reasons, or is possible they know a team might be interested in a trade later on during camp (especially the Eagles, since they know Schwartz is here)?

  11. 11 Greg Richards said at 11:56 AM on April 30th, 2016:

I really like Kentrell Brothers as a fit at MLB in Schwartz’ D. I just wonder if he can also contribute as an OLB.

  12. 12 BlindChow said at 12:13 PM on April 30th, 2016:

Are the Kentrell Brothers one guy or two?

  13. 13 Gian GEAGLE said at 11:47 AM on April 30th, 2016:

Hoping for DT and LB in the 5th
    ..
OT or S in the 6th
    ,,
Spend our 7th round pick on weapons
    ..
Be great if when it’s our turn to pick there ends up being a player left with an earlier round grade at these positions… But while I hope it works out so that we address Those positions, it’s never a good idea to force those picks.

This announcing picks method is painful.

  48. 48 Gian GEAGLE said at 12:25 PM on April 30th, 2016:

It’s better than last nights crap. How many minutes were wasted by Goodell announcing some player who then announces the teams pick?
    ..
I can see why you would łet fans, or kids announce the picks, but why waste so much time having former players announce the pick? And if you do want to let a former player announce the pick, just send him up there, have him introduce himself and then announce the pick… So ridiculous to waste so much time with GOODELL having to introduce each player who then announces the pick… WHat is the point of sending all The former players up there anyway? Just let troy Vincent do it, or underprivaledged kids who are fans of the team

  49. 49 Bert's Bells said at 1:03 PM on April 30th, 2016:

  60. 60 BlindChow said at 12:25 PM on April 30th, 2016:

Yeah, ONLY because of the division they’re in.

I’m skeptical. They improved by one win in the three years Gus has been there. The defense was garbage. A bunch of rookies aren’t going to transform that team.

    ..
colts should be very worried about their grip on the division with what the jags and Texans are doing.
    ..
Titans and Browns did a great job loading up on picks, but I don’t LOVE what they have done with their picks up to this point

  70. 70 Gian GEAGLE said at 12:27 PM on April 30th, 2016:

Crazy that the Jets can’t get value for Wilkerson. Contract situation complicates everything
    .
Bucs HAVENT dumped Glennon before he leaves them as a free agent
    .
Can Dallas afford FOles contract? They probably unload Ronald Leary at some point
    .
Can the Jets even get a 7th for Geno smith?

Dear gods, the NFL found a way to make this 1000 times more annoying than it usually is. I thought we’d reached the pinnacle of unnecessary, wasted time while announcing picks, last night. But nope, I was wrong, They had today up their sleeves.

Just walk to the fucking podium, announce the pick, and let’s get this over with. We don’t need creepy strip club Dick Vitale or Marine Todd to “entertain” us while they pad the broadcast for more advertising time.

Absolutely – but he has the size/speed to scare defenses deep. His impact on the game does not rely on him having consistent hands – if he snaggs 1-2 deep passes a game it will pin the safeties deep if he is the game on early downs… and if you do not respect him play action pass deep for TD.
