Feeling Nostalgic

Believe it or not, there was a time when CBS had the best football broadcasts (and it wasn’t close). Dick Stockton was the announcer in this game and was terrific. It is a shame he’s stayed active so long because he is awful now. Just looking at the CBS graphics gets me all warm and tingly for the old days.
Look how fast Reggie was back then. He slowed down as he got older (proving he was human).
Seeing Seth Joyner in his prime always gets me thinking about LB play. The last truly great 4-3 LB was Willie T from 1993-1996. That wasn’t his whole career, but he was at the top of his game in that span. Jeremiah Trotter and Carlos Emmons were good, but not great. Shawn Barber might have been something special if he stayed, but he didn’t.
Jordan Hicks showed big time potential last year. We’ll see if he can build on that or if it was a bit of a fluke. I’m also curious to see how Mychal Kendricks does now that he’ll be getting the best coaching of his career.
And it sure is fun to watch The 46, at least when it works.

I just watched that one too, and I also found the 1989 Giants game where Randall Had the 91 yd punt. That punt pretty much won that game. I then found the ’78 wildcard playoff game vs the Falcons. That was just before I started watching football (SB XIII was the first game I ever saw). That was pretty neat. Made me wonder if the QB really is the most important position on the team. Or is it the kicker? 🙂
My favorite Eagles game i ever watched til this day, was the Eagles vs Oilers. I game well known around here I believe. The Eagles D smashed the sh1t out of the Oilers playmakers. I’ve never seen anything like it. I think it was better than the body bag game. I hope we get that nastiness back with Jim Swartz and Co.
House of Pain game
May there be more.

I always say Seth Joyner was the best Eagles linebacker because I assume he’d find me and kick the shit out of me if I said otherwise.
He’s my favorite lb so don’t worry, I’ve got your back.

I started watching that game. getting the opponent in 3rd and 8 to start, then giving up a 20 yard gain… feels like nothing ever changes
My dad would turn off the TV audio, put on WEEU 830 AM (Reading), and have Reese and Walters on which is what I associate with nostalgia. Yeah it wasn’t synced up but it was just a great balance between the emotional homer with a great voice and the former player/color-guy who gave great insights especially about line play.
Eagles’ broadcasts are ‘ok’ but they simply haven’t been nearly as good since Walters left in ’97 and was replaced full-time by Quick.
