Game Review – PS3 – PHI 33, IND 23 – The Offense
Posted: August 29th, 2016 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 222 Comments »It’s Alive!!!
The Eagles offense has been the red-headed stepchild to the defense this spring and summer. Compliments have been few and far between. The offense has done little to make anyone feel optimistic about them.
That changed on Saturday night. The defense was still outstanding, but the Eagles offense finally came to life. They controlled the line of scrimmage, which meant time for QBs to throw and holes for the RBs to hit. Things finally clicked. I don’t think the Eagles will be setting any records this year, but the offense finally showed some potential and gave you a sense of some optimism.
Beyond just the players doing their job well, I liked how the coaches called the game. They were creative, in terms of plays and personnel use. There were times when they went with 3 TEs. They ran from that and threw from that. They would bunch them and run to that side. Creates good blocking angles for the TEs. They used a lot of the Ace formation (2 TEs, 2 WRs, RB). I’m a big fan of this. The 2003 Eagles used this a lot and did some great things with it.
One complaint with Doug Pederson. He didn’t call timeouts late in the half. The Eagles got the ball back with just 0:26 left. They didn’t need the ball to go get points, but it would have been nice to see the starting offense in a 2-minute setting.
For an idea of just what a blowout this was, the Eagles led 33-10 in the 4th quarter. The Colts FG came off an INT that put them in scoring territory. The TD came on a blocked punt that was recovered for a score. 2 Eagles mistakes, 10 points.
QB
Sam Bradford – 17-20-167. Threw for 2 TDs and an INT. The pick wasn’t his fault. Tried to hit Agholor over the middle. Nelson couldn’t make the grab and it bounced to a DB. Ideally you’d like that ball out in front of the receiver so he catches it at full speed and can add good RAC yards, but the Eagles used a 1st round pick on Agholor to make tough catches. I don’t know if Bradford threw a bad pass all night. He overthrew DGB in the end zone, but that was from 20 yards out and they’re still working on timing. Did a nice job on early 3rd/17. Rusher came up the middle. Sam stepped to the side and then hit Givens for a 1st down. Solid throw. Loved the fade to DGB for the score. Put the ball up there and let his guy go get it. The quick pass to Huff for the long gain was a good throw. Consistently put the ball where it needed to be so his guys could catch it and make plays.
For some perspective, Bradford threw 15 passes last year in the preseason. He threw 40 this summer. He’s healthy. He looks comfortable on the field and in the offense. Bradford was rusty when the regular season started last year. That won’t be the case this year.
Chase Daniel – 9-12-104. Had one TD. Good game. Once again looked comfortable running the offense. Made adjustments at the LOS. Had some nice throws. Hit Watford for a 28-yard TD. Watford was wide open, but the ball was on the money. Tried to hit Turner for a long TD, but the ball was about a step too far away. Mixed in quick throws as well. Was accurate with his short throws.
RB
Ryan Mathews – 3-31 on the ground. Ran hard and looked good. Does not run like a back concerned about staying healthy. Fights for yards. Best run came late in the 1st Qtr. Started up the middle and then bounced the run wide left. Turned that into a gain of 16. Good vision and cutting ability, plus burst. Looks ready for the season. I was getting nervous watching him fight for yards. Normally I want a RB to do that. With Mathews, I’m like “Go down dude. We’re good.”
Kenjon Barner – Took over at RB in the 2nd Qtr. 6-39 on the ground. Seeing the field really well right now. Vision and instincts are tremendous right now. Also has the footwork and moves to get to the right spots. In a groove, at RB and as a RS. Best run was a 25-yard gain to the left side. Had really good blocking and didn’t hesitate. Late in the run, Barber popped the defender before going out of bounds. I liked that. Good to see him running hard and playing with a bit of an edge. Good chip block of Cole on 3rd down helped to keep Bradford clean.
Byron Marshall – Another solid showing. You wouldn’t think he was last a RB early in his career at Oregon. Looks natural in the backfield. I’m really impressed with his inside runs. He’s no Earl Campbell, but he doesn’t dance. Will hit it up in there. Good burst. Still at his best in space. 10-40 on the ground.
Wendell Smallwood – Got the final carry of the 1st half. No room to run. Lined up out wide in the early 3rd and caught a quick out. Good route, smooth catch. Next play he ran up the middle for 9 yards. Good burst on that. Took a big shot to the legs and went down. A defender might have hit Smallwood in the head with his knees as he rolled on the field. Smallwood let go of the ball for a second then grabbed it. Left the game to be checked for concussion. You saw some of his potential, but it is concerning for him to leave after so few touches.
TE
Brent Celek – Mostly great as a blocker. Got knocked back on one run by 93. Had one pass thrown his way. Hit Celek in the hands, but before he could secure it a DB was able to rip it out. Good play by #40, but you still wish Celek had made that play. He’s bigger and stronger than the DB.
Zach Ertz – Has turned into Bradford’s favorite checkdown target. Only 5-25 as a receiver. Very good as a blocker. Got a LB on the ground on a run where Barner ran wide to that side. Had a good block on Barner’s long run to the left side. Ertz isn’t overpowering defenders, but he’s more physical than in the past and his effort is excellent. Really trying to make his blocks count.

Trey Burton – Best game of the summer. 5-35. Played early as well as later on. Had some effective run blocks in the game. Caught every pass thrown his way. Took a big shot to the head after one catch over the middle, but it didn’t seem to phase him. Caught a short TD. Was supposed to be a rub route, but the DB got lost on his own. Wide open. Lined up out wide and caught a slant on one play. Has the athleticism to do that and be effective.
Chris Pantale – Played FB and TE. 2 catches for 7 yards. Solid job as a blocker. Good effort. Still needs work, but works hard to stick with his blocks. Tall player who does struggle at times with his pad level.
MJ McFarland – Poor job as a blocker. No passes thrown his way.
WR
Nelson Agholor – Only had one pass come his way. Ball hit him in the chest on a crossing route. Needed to make that catch, but the ball went into the air and got picked off. One good sign is that he didn’t pout after that play. Did a good job as a blocker. Had a block on Huff’s long catch/run. Had the key block on Huff’s TD run. Dominated the DB on that and let Huff get around them cleanly, giving him an open lane to the end zone. Tried to block Trent Cole on Agholor’s other run. That didn’t go so well.
Chris Givens – 1-19 as as receiver. Got past the chains on 3rd/17 and made smooth catch. Solid job as a blocker.
Rueben Randle – Played mostly after the starters. 2-13. Just never showed much of a spark. Has talent, but not sure about heart. Certainly didn’t show much this summer.
DGB – Good game. Caught a slant pass and fought through a tackle to add extra yards. Gained 11 on the play. Showed his strength on that. A couple of plays later Bradford threw him a fade pass for a TD. DGB made that look so easy. Just leapt up and snatched the ball. Showed his size and athleticism on that play. The CB had no chance.
Josh Huff – Terrific game. 2-60 as a receiver, 2-10-1 as a runner. Caught a short pass on the 2nd drive. Made the initial defender miss and then raced downfield for a gain of 38. Showed his RAC skills on that play. Big reason the coaches have been so patient with Huff is that RAC potential. This offense needs that. Got the ball on a jet sweep in the Red Zone and ran for 9-yd TD. Good speed on that run. Ran the ball on end around and got minimal gain. Trent Cole sniffed that out, made the play. Caught pass on 3rd/6. Crossed the middle, got some separation and got the ball. Gain of 22. Most importantly…smooth catch. Really helped himself.
Paul Turner – Somewhat quiet. 2-21 with a long of 18. Caught a short pass on a crossing route and the ILB tackled him immediately. Big deal you say. The LB, rookie Antonio Morrison, ran a 5.1 last spring. The fact he tackled Turner so quickly did bother me.
Cayleb Jones – 1-22. Did a good job on that catch. Got the ball near the sideline and fought his way upfield for the good gain. That’s the kind of effort you want to see from someone fighting for a roster spot.
David Watford – 1-28. That was a TD catch. Used a good fake to freeze the DB and got behind him with ease. Nice job by Watford, but the DB has struggled all spring and just froze. Didn’t put some crazy Jason Avant move on the guy. Still, got open and caught the pass. Failed to stand out as a blocker.
OL
- There’s no reason to post notes about Lane Johnson going against backups.
- Eagles QBs were sacked once…when the RG missed a blitzer. QBs had enough time to go 26-32. As Colts broadcast team mentioned, it was like watching a 7-on-7 drill.
- Eagles ran for 130 yards and averaged 5.4 yards per carry.
- Simply put, the boys up front dominated the game.
Jason Peters – Started at LT and played pretty well. Got beaten in pass pro by good spin move. Sam got hit on that play. Had a great block on Mathews long run. JP downblocked the DE and put him on the ground. Then JP went and blocked a LB. Still a little rusty in pass pro, but knocked the crap out of defenders on a few different plays.
Stefen Wisniewski – Started at LG. Played well. Didn’t get a lot of push in the run game, but generally handled his guy. Good in pass pro. Locked out his arms and controlled his defender. Moved his feet pretty well.
Jason Kelce – C. Made the tackle after the INT. Old LB skills kicked in. Good game. Used his athleticism to make tough blocks at the LOS and to also get upfield or outside.
Brandon Brooks – RG. Missed blitzing LB on opening play and LB sacked Bradford for a big loss. Not sure why Brooks was slow to read that blitz and react. Picked up looping DL on 3rd/long, giving Bradford time to throw. Had poor block on run play where he just didn’t cleanly get his guy. Has not stood out the way I hoped this summer.
Allen Barbre – RT. Another good game. Hasn’t faced an elite LDE or OLB yet, but I’m getting more and more comfortable with him. Good run blocker, effective pass blocker.
Matt Tobin – Backup LT. Came in late in the 1st half so he could get some reps with the starters. The group didn’t miss a beat. Good game. Solid pass protector. Moves his feet well and uses his hands to control the rusher. Still doesn’t have great feet and will have to reach at times. Good effort as a run blocker. At his best on LBs, blocking on the 2nd level. Doesn’t get as much push as you’d want at the LOS. Had a good block on Barner’s long run to the left side. See the .gif above.
Barrett Jones – Played C. Struggled early, but did improve as the game went along. I still don’t like him and wouldn’t keep him on the roster. Reaches too much. Seems to guess on more blocks than I care for. Got out front on a screen and didn’t block anyone. Had another play where a DL just tossed him aside (like last week).
Josh Andrews – Played LG. Up and down. Good effort as a blocker. That said, there were some plays where his lack of size and strength was an issue. Andrews does play with a wide base. Pad level certainly isn’t an issue. Had a trap block that was effective, but the DL ended up pushing Andrews to the ground.
Dillon Gordon – 3rd team LT. Up and down. I’m impressed with how natural he looks at LT. Can’t stress how important something simple like that is. Good feet. Knee bender. Doesn’t get much push in the run game. Must get stronger. Had one bad moment in pass pro. Eagles tried to run a screen. Gordon was slow or something and his guy flew off the edge and was in the backfield instantly.
Darrell Greene – RG. Has the size. Has the strength. Does not have the footwork. Heavy-footed. Reaches when DL get by him or get the angle on him. Too high at times because of the poor footwork. Threw a defender to the ground on one play. Love that size and strength. Unfortunately dove on the player. Jon Runyan loves that, but is now against the rules. Got a penalty for that. Also called for early holding. Talented, but still a project.
Halapoulivaati Vaitai – RT. Isn’t showing the footwork to play OT right now. Seems a bit overwhelmed as well. He’s thinking and not just playing. Needs a lot of work. Isn’t using his size as an advantage often enough.

[…] Tommy Lawlor It’s Alive!!! The Eagles offense has been the red-headed stepchild to the defense this spring […]
It was good to see the team play well, but I think it would be irresponsible to not mention the Colts were absolutely putrid. An abysmal amount of talent on the field (injuries in secondary, but also in general) and on top of that they didn’t play well. That team is a mess on defense, good chance that this is the year that Andrew Luck doesn’t win a bad division because of it (some of those teams have a decent chance of being on the rise).
But I give credit to the Eagle’s talent and coaching for making a mediocre Colts team look truly awful.
Yes, my concerns about our OL haven’t gone away. It’s still the most worrisome issue with the team.
And Agholar waste
and depth in a many spots. Team hasn’t been tested with injuries….yet….
If we are worried about our OL, than the Giants must be petrified about their OL, yet everyone in the media seems to think they will win the division and have a great offense this year as if having the worst RT/RG tandem in the NFL is no big deal and easy to overcome
..
As long as we have either Peters or Lane on the field at all times, I think our OL will be the second best behind dallas (in our division)… If we have to go into games without both Lane and JP, then I’ll really start to worry
The commentator was pretty funny. I’ve never heard someone so negative.
That one interception where he simply said “oh my god!!”.
Some stuff does translate.. For example, our DL has been kicking starting OL ass in the preseason, and it’s safe to assume that the starting offensive lineman of the colts tried to protect Luck (coming off of an injury) every bit as much as they would in a regular season game… OL’s ARENT allowing QBs to get killed “just because it’s preseason football”
..
Personally, I think people are better off not allowing what they see in the preseason to change their opinions of the team, because a lot of what we see (not All) can be very misleading
Repost since it wont be read:
Is DGB going to be a starting outside WR? What are we expecting from him this year. Got a trade offer for him.. for spencer ware (snagged his JC handcuff).
Wouldn’t surprise me either way.
I’d keep him as he might turn into a TD machine.
I have Ware.
i’d take the trade…DGB looks like an immediate RZ threat, even without volume…2 catch for 15 yds and a TD is still good points. Ware ONLY has value if there is injury, which you can’t count on. Nothing wrong with a handcuff, but i’d take the guy with a better chance to be productive immediately
I have Ware.
i don’t know a ton about spencer ware but that dude’s probably selling high on DGB, with all the targets here can’t see DGB getting steady production
Ware is the back up to Jamal Charles and a lock to be a top 10ish RB if/when JC goes down.
This guy and I split a high stakes team, so he knows the potential that I think DGB has. Pretty much think the same thing. He is trying to capitalize on that. Wanted to ask you guys though, to check my internal hype train.
JC is sort of perennial with the ACLs.
I think what Jordan Matthews gave us last year.
Maybe it is just the preseason but people seem to warming to bradford again.
His accuracy is exceptional. I remember the days when Donny couldn’t hit the running back in stride coming out if the backfield on a swing pass. Sammy routinely hits guys in stride on crossing patterns 7 to 15 yards down field. I rarely remember Andy running crossing patterns the 10+ years Donny was at the helm because of his lack of accuracy, most of the short to medium passes were curls and digs. Not ripping in Donny, just an observation of how accuracy opens up the playbook.
I wish Sam would have the mindset of McNabb.
“Number seven will always love you!”
Don’t throw the ball until you could see the white of a receiver’s eye and count to 3 M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I? When you do finally throw it, let a fastball rip at 90 MPH and watch it clunk off the receiver’s hands.
If nobody is open by at least 5 yards, scramble until they are, or take off and run the ball?
Blame your shortcomings on the GM for not having enough “playmakers/weapons”.
Let a diva WR walk all over you?
Not allow yourself to be coached later in your career causing your game to fall off a cliff?
Revert to a passive-aggressive mindset while in front of the media?
Never properly adjust your footwork/throwing mechanics causing you to repeatedly throw worm burners at the feet of your receivers?
I’m not even going to get into the infamous Superbowl indecent.
Don’t throw the ball until you could see the white of a receiver’s eye
and count to 3 M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I? When you do finally throw it, let
a fastball rip at 90 MPH and watch it clunk off the receiver’s hands. — This was Mike Vick.
No way. Vick threw a good ball and he threw it on time. He was short and just not great at reading defenses.
Dave’s comments aren’t worth addressing. McNabb was an effective player who didn’t have the classic skillset. He did, in fact, have subpar WRs for the first half of his career. He and Reid were both frustrating essentially because they just weren’t quite good enough. Neither were exactly what we wanted, but they were still excellent and near HOF.
I’ll be honest, until the whole benching/ make up check thing, they were exactly what I wanted.
In another life, with a slightly different roll of the dice, they have multiple Championships.
No luck involved in life though, right Dave?
At least one, sure. We had some good squads.
You are crazy bro. I dont like McNabb now either. He was still 20x the QB Sam will ever be.
Seriously, I loved McNabb and cherished his time with the team. Outside his last 2 years with the team, I always felt we could win it all with him at QB. But the truth is that he not was a consistently accurate passer.
Now that I can agree with.
Their mindset is similar IMO, both extremely risk averse. 5 threw low so only the receiver (or worms) could get to it. Sam throws to a running back and usually not very well. The main difference is Donnie knew how to throw a long ball and probably read defenses better.
Every year, every preseason — we as fans are this way. sparked by 3-0 offseason. Have no fear, it’ll be pitch forks and torches soon…
Surely he’s one of the best practice players in history.
Dak Prescott is the best practice player in history. #howmanyringzzzzzz???
Dakmania
He is better than Mark Sanchez. Ill give him that much.
When the season starts, he’ll start playing scared again and it’ll be all checkdowns.
Actually his preseason play seems pretty consistent with his play from the second half of last season… Absurd for people to think he isn’t going to be any better than he was last year when he hadn’t played in two years, and had one month practice before the season started.. Serious disrespect to how hard the game of football is for fans to think they could have possibly seen the best SAM was capable of when he only had a month to practive in a new offense with a new teammates… Ignorant people can call that “making excuses for the kid”, but if you understand how hard it is to be successful playing QB at the NFL level, you would call that “the simple reality of the situation”.,..
..
No shot in hell that Bradford won’t be better than how he looked the first half of last season, but you are welcome to learn the hard way
It’s Aliiiive! It’s Aliiiive!!
When comedy was funny.
I’m going to optimistically assume Tommy put that in there as an homage to Gene Wilder.
I don’t think there’s any question about that.
Unfortunately dove on the player. Jon Runyan loves that, but is now against the rules. Got a penalty for that
What a joke the NFL has become!
I don’t like the rule you referenced either, seems silly. That block wasn’t malicious by any means. Not ever sure I’ve seen an injury happen from a play like that…
Well, diving on a player who’s already on the ground is not a block. That’s after a successful block. You can kneel down and hold him from getting up (I know Cox did this to Shady last year – although not an OL situation obviously). I don’t see how it’s logical to say that an offensive lineman diving on top of a player who’s already on the ground can’t cause injury… I would hate to see one of our DL injured on a play like that…
Exactly, if you bury a guy and go to ground with him, by all means don’t get up, but there’s no neeed to go flying in at a player on the ground.
I thought he was sitting on him while holding him down after he pancaked him?!
I didn’t see it live but this ” Threw a defender to the ground on one play. Love that size and strength. Unfortunately dove on the player.”
Sounds more like a glorified spear to me.
If I remember, he pushed the player over with his arms, as both were sort of moving sideways in front of the QB, and as his momentum was a bit forward, decided to fall and land on the guy instead of pulling up. Definite Runyan play. No helmet involved.
thank you. at least you’ve seen the play. I understand it’s a new rule, I just think it’s a silly rule….
no, it wasn’t a spear. Guy was on the ground and went to get up. No whistle yet, so he sent him to the ground again. It wasn’t vicious, it wasn’t after a whistle, it wasn’t a spear, he didn’t target head or knees….
That’s not how it happened at all. He didn’t have time to go “to get up,” Greene was on top of him too fast. I just rewatched the play.
FairOaks has a good description of the play below, though Greene’s momentum was carrying him away from the defender; Greene made a conscious decision to direct his body onto him instead, which I guess is why they called the penalty (even live it stood out as being suspect).
No, he pushed him to the ground, then a second later decided to jump on him. It was pretty blatant.
again — it wasn’t like a pile on situation. Go watch the play.
I never said can’t. I said .. never seen an injury from it…
I cannot remember when I ever got hurt when my wife was doing that with me!
We lost Vick for a few weeks when he had someone dive on him while laying on the ground in the end zone. Not quite the same, but I wanted a penalty called then.
not even close to the same…lol
You can’t lay on a Defensive lineman to stop him from getting up anymore? Did they really remove THAT from the game? I thought we got called for it because it almost looked like a pro wrestler dropping an elbow off the top rope making too much contact instead of just laying on the guy to stop him from getting up
After comments/reports from very early — I’m shocked to see Aggie struggling and Huff being impressive. Real football is almost here. I have zero concerns about RMat’s talent at rb. (stating the obvious) It’s his health.
….
What if this new WR works out. What a find that would be…
Huff is still the same player he’s been. Poor hands and ball security on offense, but a hard runner who can both make guys miss and run through tackles.
If the team can maximize his strengths and avoid his weaknesses (that is “do a better of putting the player in a position to succeed) he’ll be an asset to the team.
Yeah, not to pick nits, but if you watch the Colts game, Huff had the ball poorly secured imo on each of his plays. He will fumble again this year unless he tightens that up.
At the end of his first catch and run, It looked like he secured the ball with two hands when contact came.
Former Oregon TE Colt Lyerla was arrested for heroin possession Sunday.
Supremely gifted, Lyerla’s career has been derailed by drug issues. Waived by the Packers in 2014 after suffering a knee injury, Lyerla was popped for driving under the influence of intoxicants just weeks later. He was also cited for cocaine possession in college. Lyerla had been playing in the Arena League.
What a waste of serious talent. Damn shame, but it doesn’t seem like his story will have a happy ending. Hopefully he can save himself before its too late
earl wolff cut. and now every football getting asked about kap’s statement, like it should matter what someone else thinks.
Bjorn Werner was released by the Jags. I know someone was hoping for a german Eagle once upon a time, but getting cut by the Jags can’t be a good sign.
He’ll always be a JAG to me.
I mean MoBo aint making the Vikings, I’d rather have him as WR5.
That would be awesome. His potential is there!
First Dawk, now Shaun Barber. Love that move too!!!
We want Trot! We want Trot!
+ Duce, Hauck, Mikell, GLew…. amazing.
I was a big shawn Barber fan back in the day. I always wished he would have been an eagle a little longer…. The Carlos Emmons, Trotter, Shawn Barber group was probably the best starting LBs we had throughout the andy era.
Good game against a bad/banged up team. This will be Pagano/Heckert last year in Indy. Sorry Wentz won’t play in the 4th game. Otherwise, on to the Browns
You mean Grigson. Heckert is in Denver.
http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/news/article-1/Eagle-Eye-A-Tough-Scheme-To-Defend/fa32e777-0f8a-4cf6-8b0e-311e2d3fc152
Eagle Eye is up too. I know Fran is payed by the mothership but read that article and tell me you aren’t getting a little more optimistic about Pedo
And with that you have officially displaced the GEagle with the “Worst Nickname”.
Too much? I’m sorry, figured I could get one chuckle out of everyone. I never have had a bad thing to say about Doug but it was just sitting right there.
It’s so bad it good and then bad again.
Doug, we think you did a very underrated job with the Eagles, and you really hit the interview out of the ballpark. It’s just that…your name. They’re going to say, well–it’s just too easy. We just don’t need that kind of scrutiny right now.
Best of luck, some program’s going to get a hell of a coach.
I like it
You like the joke or you’re a creep?
Would Perry Riley be an upgrade at back up LB?
Not unless you want Bryan Braman to get cut
I am not sure what this means.
Not unless you want Bryan Braman cut? So cutting him would upgrade the LB position?
Or do my personal feeling about Braman some how come in to play here, that me wanting him cut is relevant?
To quote a fellow commenter defending Ruben Randle’s as a starting WR, “It doesn’t matter what I want…”
He used to look pretty good to me.
The only rookie drafted later than Prescott to be opening day starter is possibly the worst (statistically) QB of all time.
http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/dak-prescott-is-not-your-average-week-1-starting-quarterback/
Interestingly, Pederson is one of three undrafted players to have week one as their first start. The other two were also in 1999.
I wonder if we can get one for Jake Metz?

Lol Sean Lee is already having MRI’s on his knee…. If he doesn’t play 16 games. That dallas defense will really become a clown show
I’ll drink to that clown show!!!
haven’t heard anything about this yet??? sheesh, i kinda feel bad for the guy if he is hurt
They don’t think it’s serious, but it was serious enough to do an MRI.. Just a reminder of how fragile he is
ALbert Breer is speculating that the Niners could keep Kaep on Ice all season like thre skins did with RG3 last year so Kaep can get hurt which would trigger more money in Kaep Contract. not allowing him to dress for games all season also eliminates the headache of him not standing for the national anthem.
.,
Funny how Quickily the agent smacked some sense into Myke Tavares
Is Kaep’s contract guaranteed, why not just cut him?
This year but not next year. He took a team friendly series of one year deals.
Wow can Rodney Harrison be any more Ignorant? That fool better blame it on his head trauma. So ignorant
What happened?
He made a fool out of himself speaking against Kaep claiming that Kaep “ISNT black so he will never understand what they go thru” lol Kaeps black father probably disagrees
..
Donkey been spending all day trying to appologize on Twitter
such a tool…I hated him before when he was a player, thought maybe I misjudged him after watching him as a commentator, but he just reaffirmed his d*ckhead status
He’s an embarrassment on so many levels. And I’m frankly insulted by his comments.
Off topic Tommy- Love the site but it is time to update your logo as Vick/DJax/Lesean are long gone.
http://www.mememaker.net/static/images/memes/4618823.jpg
Nice touch.
https://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/71413502.jpg
Eh, I don’t even notice the logo graphic anymore. Whatever.
On the other hand, the link to “Sheil Kapadia & Tim McManus’ Eagle Blog” makes me laugh. But however much time Tommy would spend fixing that would be a waste, IMO. I’d rather he spend his time writing the wonderful content he constantly provides.
WOW!!!! Vikings think teddy tore his acl in practice today
..
Hopefully they trade for sanchez.
Chip should try to dump Kap there while they are desperate
True that!
.
If Kaep wants out of San Fran, he might want to shut up long enough to fool the vikings into trading for him… Wonder if he still sits during Thursday’s national anthem since he is starting in PS game #4… I don’t know how the Vikings can trade for him if he sits down again
YES!!#;how you wsnt to play your last paycheck now? ?
Regardless of what you think about his protest, does anyone want a starting qb that going to be a distraction and a divider?
if you had to take one
Johnny Football or
Kap
That would be an awful decision to have to make. Like one of those kid playground choices: “Would you rather be killed by being blown up or run over?”
Sammy Sleeves to Vikings for their 1st rounder 2017?
*duck
Hey, GermanEagle, look over here —-
Pow! Whip cream pie to the face.
Looks/sounds like Teddy Bridgewater might be out for season…
ouch
Yeah. They ended practice while he was laying on the field, players praying over him, and then an ambulance took him away.
Happened in a non-contact drill, too. That is just crushing. You never want to see that.
Wow, this makes me remember the Leonard Weaver injury:
https://twitter.com/murphPPress/status/770697853622714368
Damn, had him and Stefon Diggs in fantasy.
Those non-contacts are crazy. Really too bad bc he looked good in pre-season.
I dont even wsnt to see it .. injuries kill the game and theres no way to resolve it .. fewer athletes gonna play it one day
Looks like Sanchez has found a job again.
Was hopjng Dallas wanted Sanchez
The VON Miller Madden Football comercial is great
Oh god Eagles twitter is already ripe with Vikings Bradford trades! I hope our fanbase never changes.
So ridiculous
It’s still off-season I guess.. 😉
2017 1st + 2nd and 2018 3rd with ProBowl escalator to 2nd will do.

Sources: #Vikings Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was taken to the hospital shortly after practiced and I’m hearing it’s a compound fracture.
Sorry, not Schefter. Hate these jackasses.
How does one suffer a compound fracture on a non-contact play?
It is from a fake account.
I mean, also: fake account…
Osteogenesis Imperfecta?
Fake account? JamesD_Hogan?
It is mentioned below, but both this and some Bowen tweets are the work of fake accounts. Be careful.
This guy wasn’t even trying (didn’t change his @). Odd that Greg would be taken in so easily…
It happens to the best of us.
Because Les Bowen re-tweeted it!
*shakes fist* BOWEN!!

#upgrade!
It doesn’t seem to me like the Eagles really want a straight up I-formation power back. They’ll use the FB position a little, but not the best fit IMO.
I thought Cobb was a good pick for the Titans last year. Suprised he is already cut.

Mike Zimmer said it “doesn’t look good right now” for Teddy Bridgewater to be able to play this season.

As we contemplate a season where rebuilding has been thrown around in conversation, imagine what fans in Minnesota are facing right now, as the compulsively refresh Twitter and web pages, hoping against the inevitable.
I don’t think the world is ending for them. Teddy was pretty much a game manager.
Really? That isn’t how the reports sound from players and Zimmer.
Seems more like PR IMO.
PR? They canceled practice after like 20 minutes because the team was so upset
The Vikings isn’t the brightest organization.
I’m not sure if I share your not so sensible remarks in the light of what appears to be a devastating injury to a promising young player.
I like the guy but lets not get too far from the facts here. Bridgewater has been a lesser version of Alex Smith in his career so far.
That’s utterly Rubbish.
You seem to have a high opinion on a guy that hasn’t even thrown for 15 TDs in his career so far but to each his own.
Freedom of speed and expression. Just ask Kap.
Bridgewater’s reputation apparently exceeds his performance. I watched several Vikings games last year, and the Alex Smith comparison is dead on.
I don’t know…

Yea it sucks but to stop practice and compare your wife’s death to this? Seems like an overreaction to me.
Apparently multiple players vomiting on the field prompted the cancelling of practice. And, yeah, talking about the death of your wife is a bit over the top. It is the kind of thing someone does under stress without considering the PR ramifications.
Maybe he upgraded since then?
*wife dies*
*trades for Sam Bradford*
backup is Shaun Hill
Wouldn’t be that huge of a drop off really.
never started more than 10 games in a season and hasn’t won much
True but I’m pretty sure they’ll try to get someone else. Maybe Sanchez?
Zach Mettenberger now available
Apparently baseball isn’t going to work out for Tebow…
So you’re saying Sanchez wouldn’t be a big drop off from Teddy. Dude that’s hilarious.
Have you even seen him play?
Have you seen Sanshite play?!
Eh, yes.
A report from Fox Sports analyst Jay Glazer has indicated that the San
Francisco 49ers are likely to part ways with embattled quarterback Colin
Kaepernick.
Amazing he had time in between getting players busted for PED use to research that.
“It didn’t seem to phase him.”
No, Tommy, no! http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/phase
Instead, use “faze.” Evidence: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/faze
Don’t faze me bro!
Lol!
Maybe Hart is still headed out?
https://twitter.com/lesbowen/status/770740070890561536
Is this the dude from Purdue with the ridiculous hand usage?
Nah, this guy has bounced around league. I think it’s just to eat up reps Thursday night.
So, the headline next week: Beast unable to win over Hart.
I’m sending that to Les!
Yeah, 8 teams, CFL and AFL. I think you are right.
Eagles claimed DT Bruce Gaston off waivers from SDG. Bounced around league. Likely just a body to take some reps on Sunday night with Hart out and them likely not wanting to risk playing Beau Allen very much.
Thursday night. Unless you’re talking about the SNG against the Cowboys in week 8.
Damn this sport is brutal… I mean one injury to one guy on your team basically ruins your chances for the entire year… Fuck, sometimes I wonder why we do it to ourselves. Like, one freak injury and its almost as if the Minnesota fans should find a new team to root for, haha damn you sweet sweet football.
Whatever, say what you want about the silliness of Bradford to the Vikings, but I say we should maximize our return for him and if this opens up an opportunity to get value, I’m all for it.
I think he’d have to have a heck of a season this year for his trade value to increase substantially next season, and I don’t think we have the OL/weapons for that to happen.
OK. So, everyone’s pitching ideas of trading Bradford (or how about Chase?) to the Vikes (poor bastards). What would you think is fair compensation? Player? Pick? Bucket of gummy bears?
If Wentz were healthy, a trade of Sam or Chase could be a possibility.
I don’t know. I think both Bradford and Daniels’ contracts make them prohibitively expensive for a trade where we get much of anything back. With other QBs out there on the market for peanuts, I can’t see the Vikes giving up much of value to get one of our QBs.
I can’t see it happening either, nor do I think the Eagles should part with either guy at this time. The Vikes, though, might be the one team that would take a large contract and give up a lot. They were 11-5 last year, won their Division, and were probably thinking Super Bowl hunt this year. It will be interesting to see what they do next.
Xavier Rhodes straight up or Diggs + a 3rd.
All Day for chase, i think the salary swap ends up being even.
I wouldn’t do it. He’ll be too old by the time we’re a contender.

Rapoport has hit a new low.
https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/770760940522446848
Why?! Because he said players were throwing up?? Have you never used that phrase for expressing that you felt sick without physically throwing up?! Don’t understand that big deal…
No I have not and I’ve never heard any reporter make up a lie quite like that to get clicks. When have you heard a reporter say players were throwing up and they weren’t ?
Idk. McNabb in the super bowl maybe?! 😉
Bingo!
…
I don’t know, it bothers me.
“Vikings players disturbed and horrified, even throwing up on the field.”
To me, that doesn’t read like figurative language.
Fair enough.
I don’t have a problem with that ‘non-figurative’ languages chosen and I don’t honestly think Rapoport was fishing for clicks.
Problem is he is a reporter and he said it like a report of what happened.
So Teddy B. has a dislocated knee and fully torn ACL. Out for season.
What a great PR move by the Vikings as some poster here suggested…
#poorKid
I remember watching him beat Rutgers in 2012 for Louisville’s BCS berth. In between plays and during TV timeouts he just limped around. We were in awe that he kept playing.
I hope he makes a full recovery cause he definitely has heart.
Ah yes my PR comment is almost as dumb as your overrating of Bridgewater. Fair enough.
Dude
What’s wrong with you?! What does have the quality of a player to do with any sympathy you would show for him in case of a serious injury? Would you feel more upset if it was Aaron Rodgers.
I don’t even know what you’re talking about? I feel bad for him but it’s not like Bridgewater made that team for christ sake.
Eh yes. With him they were serious playoff contenders. Without him they might struggle to win 7 games. And don’t give me Sanshite please.
You’re kidding right?
No. It’s all for PR.
Salty.
He game managed them to 11 wins last year — almost to AFC Champs – no reason to think he wouldn’t improve. Sucks to know your whole season is basically blown.
His defense and run game has carried him. Not like his numbers are irreplaceable and that their season is really over.
We shall see. Not every team with a run game and good defense wins 11 games and makes the playoffs.
I cannot imagine what that would do to my mood and fan hood at this point in the season. I wasn’t mature enough or focused enough in ’91 to realize that Cunningham going down was going to end the last best shot that group would have.
Sort of like Romo’s clavicle at the beginning of last year. Maybe his back getting broken in pre-season this year.
Cmon the 1991 eagles were way better than these Vikings.
Absolutely. But this could end up being their last, best shot to make a run with AP.
