What a terrific start. The Eagles ran the ball and dominated the LOS on their way to building a 7-0 lead. The Eagles got away from the run game after that, but still managed to get into FG range. Unfortunately, Caleb Sturgis missed a 44-yd FG.
The Falcons offense has struggled today, putting up just 6 points and 133 yards. Give the Eagles credit. They are covering well and doing a great job of tackling. Atlanta isn’t getting any yards after the catch. The Eagles are starting to get some pressure on Matt Ryan.
Feed the ball to Ryan Mathews. He’s running really well right now.
And quit doing dumb things. Wentz took a dumb sack early in the game. He then failed to recover a fumble that was right there for him. He then threw the ball away on 4th down late in the half. It didn’t hurt the Eagles, but could have. Zach Ertz has 2 false start penalties. Jordan Matthews has a drop that might have cost the team 3 points. Ugh.
But the Eagles are winning and they get the ball to start the 2nd half.

We have good young lineman. They signed Brandon Brooks .Vaitai is a good run blocker. So is Seumalo. Wisniewski has been good.
I’d love an OL or two but it depends how Vaitai develops rest of season. Not sure we need to ‘invest a ton of resources” though.

My thoughts on the game:
– Pederson played ‘rope-a-dope’ by saying they were sticking with Sproles as their primary RB and were going to ride him this week; still got the same number of carries
– Nice offensive playcalling (notwithstanding the last minute of the first half) including using a lot of Sproles in the slot in the 3-WR set and taking advantages of the rookie matchups
– Getting back Logan was huge on helping to stifle the Falcons’ run game
– Ryan did make a couple of real money throws today but missed Tamme a lot
Pretty spot on, can’t disagree with much.
I had an issue with him calling a sweep on the 1/2 yard line in the 2nd half. But generally he was a lot less bad this game in playcalling.
It wasn’t so much a sweep as it was outside off T. I didn’t mind that call that much.
This isn’t exactly a team that gets great push in side & if they would have gotten stuff inside then people would have harped on ‘why is he doing the obvious?’
So seems like things get better when u stop watching the games.
Props to our OL today, they mauled the Falcons a lot of the game. Also our RBs made good reads and some nice moves to get extra yards.
And of course our D just held the #1 O in the league to 15pts, great work from them.
So at various points we have beat the #1 O (twice-Steelers and Falcons) as well as the #1 D (Vikings)

I think they did look for him on one of their PA passes, but it wasn’t there. He was also on the field from time to time being the jet sweep motion decoy.
There were a few plays where announcers said they were looking downfield, but the play wasn’t there. They didn’t say who was the target.

This win at least keeps them in the running too. I thought they wouldn’t start Wentz until Nov, go 6-10, and this was going to be a pretty boring rebuilding year.
Instead Wentz has played well, they really have been in every game except the Skins game, and arguably been the best home in the NFL this year so far.
It has certainly been an entertaining season so far with a lot of close games and at 5-4 about you could have realistically hoped for at this point including how Wentz has played.

I still miss Walters and Reese calling Eagles’ games which was my child hood. Quick has improved a bit but he still misses his share of stuff too.
Walters just had a great chemistry with Reese as the low-key guy who kept some of Reese’s hyperbole in check along with making a lot of good observations about line play. You learned a lot listening to Walters point about what was going on & why.
I miss Walters explaining to Merrill that the easiest way to stop defensive lineman from batting down passes is to punch them in the chest.
I hate seeing Ced Thornton making plays for the Cowboys. He was a solid rotational guy for us, it’s a shame he had to go.

I thought he was in. He was flat in air w/ no knee down. It looked like a botched call that probably wouldn’t get overturned.
