Halftime – SEA 16, PHI 7

Nelson Agholor is the worst person in the history of mankind.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about the game. The Eagles are down 9 points, but they’ve done a lot of good things. The problem is that one mistake on defense resulted in a Seattle TE and one mistake on offense wiped out an Eagles TD. Two plays. Two huge moments that affected the overall game.

Russell Wilson is playing lights out. Even when the Eagles get big time pressure on him, Wilson is finding a way to get away or to get rid of the ball. He is easily the most frustrating player in the league to go against.

The Eagles need to score early in the 3rd to keep this game close. They are not going to mount some great comeback on Seattle so it is imperative to stay within a possession of them. Getting a FG or TD to open the 3rd would put the Eagles where they need to be.

I don’t know what Jim Schwartz and the defense are going to do. Wilson is just red hot the last few weeks. Even when you’re right, you can be wrong. Coming up with a takeaway would be huge.

Easy. Miles Austin last year. He stole money literally by being on this roster all year.

  10. 10 Kevin K said at 6:08 PM on November 20th, 2016:

We all know Agholor is essentially un-cuttable due to cap reasons for next year. Legit question: What would be the cap implications if the ruthless, shameless thief were, say, the victim of a gang murder? Asking for a friend.

What stupid thing did Agholor do this time?

  17. 17 Corry said at 6:10 PM on November 20th, 2016:

Illegal formation penalty wiped out an X-play TD, and then dropped a wide open 25 yard pass that hit him directly in the hands in stride.

  25. 25 Corry said at 6:14 PM on November 20th, 2016:

Paul Turner isn’t on the roster. He’s still on the practice Squad. The team was ready to make a move to get him on the roster if Matthews couldn’t go.

  26. 26 wallacemnw said at 6:12 PM on November 20th, 2016:

  42. 42 BobSmith77 said at 6:18 PM on November 20th, 2016:

I haven’t seen this jersey for sale at any of the local sporting goods stores since the summer he was drafted. It is Wentz, Cox, and then a hodgepodge of limited availability.

  90. 90 BobSmith77 said at 6:24 PM on November 20th, 2016:

Lost possession of the football which matters more. More important than anything including field possession down 16-7 in the 2nd half.

  91. 91 John Galt said at 6:25 PM on November 20th, 2016:

We aren’t driving 98 yards on this D. Maybe get a PI or a long punt isn’t a bad play

  92. 92 BobSmith77 said at 6:28 PM on November 20th, 2016:

Their down two scores though in the 2nd half. Possession of the ball matters a lot more than field position at this point especially with the big plays the Seahawks have had.

  103. 103 Dragon_Eagle said at 6:25 PM on November 20th, 2016:

In the offseason, I hope the Eagles seriously consider changes at the WR coaching spot. I get it that Greg Lewis and Doug have a familiarity, but honestly, I think JMatt and Ags have regressed this season.

  104. 104 kajomo said at 6:26 PM on November 20th, 2016:

  176. 176 Iskar36 said at 6:43 PM on November 20th, 2016:

I am excited by Wentz and certainly see the potential, but this is simply not true. He has had good moments and terrible ones. He has not played well the past couple weeks. Yes, he lacks weapons on offense, and that clearly must factor into things, but he COULD be playing better, and he has left some to be desired… at least for now.

  177. 177 Mitchell said at 6:36 PM on November 20th, 2016:

Cause hes a rookie throwing to someone of AGs caliber.

  178. 178 Jernst said at 6:43 PM on November 20th, 2016:

He completed a number of clutch throws in the first 3 games, including a few 4th down passes that were thrown into windows a couple inches in size. And he just led a game winning drive last week. He’s a rookie, he’s gonna have ups and downs. He’s not playing well right now. But, he’s going up against the best defense of this decade with absolutely no weapons whatsoever. If Agholar could catch and line up properly this would be a tight game.

  183. 183 daveH said at 6:42 PM on November 20th, 2016:

    I remain hopefully optimistic

  184. 184 Iskar36 said at 6:49 PM on November 20th, 2016:

One reason Wilson is red hot is because Seattle receivers are running wide open through the Eagles secondary at all times. On the 92 yard drive, it was 2nd down and about 26 and the Eagles’ CB gave the receiver about a 30 yard cushion. It just seems the Eagles are incapable of drafting, signing, or devloping good CBs. I respect Mills’ fight, but there’s a reason why there’s almost no successful starting CBs in the league that run the 40 yard dash in over 4.6 seconds. As long as Mills remains that slow (so, forever) he’ll always be at risk for giving up a big play and thus be forced to give a large cushion. He’s just not a starting CB. Carroll is borderline. He won’t lose you any games as a #2 CB, but he’s definitely not good enough to be your best CB. Shame we soured on Rowe so quickly. He’s the only high draft pick we’ve spent on the position since Lito and Sheldon.

The bigger question should be why is Agholor on the field in the first place?

Always a chance they don’t catch it, I guess?

I would say the loss was not that bad if it heled in the Draft. But we traded are Draft pick and Minnesota won. We need WR’s & TE’S BAD.

Would you rather draft 35 or 45? Losing affects the other rounds too.

I’m more disappointed by how we lost than that we lost… Our DL should have crushed Seattle’s OL, we’re not going to face a worse one this year, and obviously Agholor ruining the long touchdown. Just not a lot of fun to watch.

When I played football, I was a WR. Every single play … EVERY SINGLE PLAY … I would line up, look at the line judge and say either, “I’m on the line, Sir” or “I’m off the line, Sir” and if they disagreed they’d tell you. This was just part of every single play. I never had to think about it. And, I never once in all my years of playing was ever penalized for illegal formation. I’ve heard from NFL WRs that the same thing holds true in the NFL. You can confirm with the line judge that you are lined up correctly so that you never get penalized for illegal formation. There is literally no excuse for such a penalty by a WR. I would have benched Agholar right then and there if I were coaching this team.

  423. 423 SteveH said at 8:15 PM on November 20th, 2016:

Agholor doesn’t want to hear about this.

Thats why i dont care about him .. i know he does care, but his responses to the press are our only interaction we get to rrly on

You can see WR’s in every NFL game look over at the ref and look for confirmation.

Barf inducing effort in the loss, but this is the bet team we’ll play all year. We have 6 games left that we should win. Can’t say if we’ll win all 6, but we’ve been excellent at home and I’m not impressed with Baltimore and Cincy.

I just don’t understand the angst. We have a *franchise quarterback* folks. He needs a bit more seasoning, but he’s already *ahead* of where any sane person would have expected at the start of the season. And he doesn’t have an Ezekiel Elliot, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Cole Beasley, *and* Pro-Bowl OL. So, for me, I’m a bit chill about it.

With a franchise quarterback and a solid defense, we have a puncher’s chance in any game — as long as Pederson delivers a gameplan that is not completely idiotic. Did you feel the same way with Chip after the first year? Or Reid’s Dream Team years? I sure didn’t. Those years I felt the Eagles didn’t have a chance against the top teams. And this was not just a lack of confidence in the players, I lacked confidence in the coaches, in the scouting, in the whole program.

Now, I feel like if we play a good game, a clean game, then we can compete with the Seattle’s and the New England’s and the Dallas’s and the Steelers’s of the NFL. Convert 3rd downs, run the football, avoid negative plays, grind it out. The longer we drive, the more our defense can rest, the harder it is for their offense to establish, the shorter their drives, the more tired their defense is, the longer our drives, the more our defense can rest, etc. That’s how we snowballed things on Pittsburgh. We were close to pulling the same thing against Seattle after we ground out the 7-6 lead, but those 2-20 and 3-16 conversions kept us from starting the snowball, and they turned the tables.

You know, we screw things up every game. And every game (except for Washington and now this one), we come back and make it close. I don’t fret over the inevitable early mistakes, as long as the team keeps grinding, we have that puncher’s chance. I’d say that today the injuries to Mathews and Sproles and Fletcher Cox being out on that 3rd down (where Wilson ran right up the middle) helped do us in.

We needed another defensive stop or two, and didn’t get it. We needed at least a FG on one of those early 2nd half drives, and didn’t get it. We probably could have played Wilson a bit better. Can’t win ’em all; I am fairly chill about it.

The only thing that gives me pause is that Carson Wentz *has* regressed. Is it just a transient loss of focus/confidence? Or were the first 3 games a mirage and he is now regressing to his true abilities? Reminding myself that he is still a rookie, I choose to believe it’s the former, in which case he gets a pretty hefty amount of slack.
