The Emmitt Effect
Posted: December 21st, 2016 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 583 Comments »Nate Newton made his NFL debut in 1986. He started 11 games the next year and then was a full time starter the rest of his career. Newton ended up going to 6 Pro Bowls in his career, the first coming in 1992.
Newton joked with the media that he was the same blocker from before 1992 as that year, but Emmitt Smith changed everything. 1992 was the season when Emmitt was dominant and carried Dallas to the Super Bowl. Playing for a winner and blocking for a star changed the perception of him from when he blocked for some awful Dallas teams.
Brian Dawkins became a starter early in his rookie season 1996. He started the next couple of years as well and looked like a player on the rise, but he wasn’t anything special. Then in 1999 Andy Reid became the head coach of the Eagles and Jim Johnson became the defensive coordinator. That changed everything. JJ knew just how to use Dawkins and let his young pupil become a star player. Dawkins made the Pro Bowl in 1999 and for most of the rest of his career.
Not all players are stars right away. Some can take years to develop. Some need the right teammate. Some need the right coach.
I mention this because too often when we discuss the Eagles roster, there is a complete focus on what we know now. That’s critical of course, but you also have to consider the potential the players have. Fletcher Cox and Jason Peters were voted to the Pro Bowl. Both are outstanding players. You can argue whether they deserved it this year, but they made it.
If you look just at that, it seems like the Eagles roster is in bad shape.
But there is hope.
Congrats to the #Eagles Pro Bowl alternates as well:
1st: B. Graham
2nd: Kelce, McLeod, Maragos
3rd: RB & KR Sproles, Jenkins#FlyEaglesFly— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) December 21, 2016
Brandon Graham could be a future Pro Bowl’er. I know he’s going to be 29 next year, but Graham should have plenty of tread left on the tire because he was a role player for so much of 2011-2014. This isn’t a guy who’s played a ton of snaps and is clearly wearing down.
Malcolm Jenkins seemed like he was headed for the Pro Bowl earlier this season. He is a really good player.
Rodney McLeod has been erratic recently, but still is very talented. He could make it in the future.
Jordan Hicks could be a star in the future. Playmaking MLBs aren’t easy to find.
Lane Johnson can be a Pro Bowl player in the future. He was off to a great start this year before the suspension, which makes his long absence all the more frustrating. Losing a starter hurts. Losing a very good starter really hurts.
Zach Ertz could be a Pro Bowl TE. He’s played better since the non-block controversy, but still has lots of room to improve. There isn’t great chemistry between he and Wentz right now.
Wentz could be a star in the next few years. He’s got a very high ceiling.
Isaac Seumalo could be a really good G or C in the future.
As much as I like Jordan Matthews, I’m afraid he might not be dynamic enough to be a Pro Bowl WR. He’s really good, but there are some freaks at that position and he’s simply not on that level. Matthews is a very good young player. DGB is more naturally gifted and is bigger, but he’s not even a consistently good player. We need to get him to that level before considering anything beyond that.
Bennie Logan and Vinny Curry are talented, young DL. Logan is a free agent so we’ll have to wait and see what his future holds. Curry has been a major disappointment this year, but I wonder if nagging injuries haven’t been a major issue for him. He just hasn’t looked like his old self on a regular basis this year. He was very disruptive for the previous few years so I tend to think he can get back to being that kind of player.
The point of this isn’t to try to convince you the Eagles are loaded with talent. Heck, they aren’t even loaded with potential. But there are some guys who do have good potential and could become key players in the future. If this team is going to take a step forward, they do need some of these players to take the next step forward and become Pro Bowl’ers, stars or whatever you want to call them. Not all answers and upgrades are going to come from the outside.
*****
In less than three months, and possibly sooner, Bennie Logan is going to become a very rich man.
But that’s small potatoes compared to what he’s going to make from either his second contract with the Eagles or from another NFL team if/when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on March 9.
Logan will be a highly coveted player on the free-agent market if the Eagles don’t re-sign him by the start of free agency. He’s not going to match the six-year, $102.6 million contract that his buddy Fletcher Cox got from the Eagles last summer. But a $10 million-a-year deal is well within his grasp.
If you doubt that, check out the extension Aaron Donald’s interior-line sidekick, Michael Brockers, got from the Rams in September – three years, $33.2 million, with $18.1 million fully guaranteed.
Until March 9, the ball is in the Eagles’ court. If there wasn’t a salary cap, this would be a no-brainer. Logan and Cox are one of the best defensive tackle tandems in the league. Letting Bennie get away wouldn’t be an option.
But there is a cap. It’s probably going to increase another $13 million or so in 2017, which certainly helps if the Eagles want to re-sign Logan. That said, they need to decide what percentage of their cap they’re willing to dedicate to the defensive line in general and the defensive tackle position specifically.
Cox’s 2017 cap number is going to be $9.4 million. The cap numbers for defensive ends Vinny Curry, Connor Barwin and Brandon Graham total nearly $25 million in ’17. And the Eagles are expected to pursue another edge-rusher in free agency, given the way Curry and Barwin have underperformed this season.
The Eagles can keep Logan.
Should they?
Will they?
These are tough questions and there are not easy answers. He’s good and young, so I’d prefer to keep Logan around. But the money has to work. If some other team offers him a buttload, the Eagles might lose him.
It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.
_
I’m in the camp that there is already enough money tied up in the DL. I would think CB would be a higher priority, however, spending big at CB in FA doesn’t guarantee anything. I guess if they are high on Logan sign him but get some CB through FA and the draft for Petey’s sake!
Stephen Gilmore seems like a perfect match at CB for us because of the Schwartz connection
Yeah, totally agree.
Let Bennie go and get paid. CB and WR should be top priority. We can take care of DT in the draft. Some good options are already on the team. Cox’s presence should give those guys 1-on-1 opportunities.
Im wary to spend big this off season. I do want to move on from bennie. Which sucks because he was my favorite Eagle 4 months ago.
Eagles Rewind (https://eaglesrewind.com/) has a really good article up explaining how the Eagles are only 1 of 7 teams to have a positive point differential but a losing record since 2006. Of those teams all of them had a better record the next year with several of them making the playoffs. I really feel like this team is one solid CB and WR away from making the playoffs, especially with a sophomore QB at the helm.
The Eagles underlying numbers tells about a team that should be around 9 to 10 wins this year.
yep, pretty unlucky to have 0 wins in close games, expected value being around 50%.
Also one solid coach.
I think I agree with that, but I just don’t know if maybe DP was too raw as HC to be 100% accountable. I don’t know who it might have been, but I would have preferred to see Lurie hire an old HC with no agenda and give DP asst. HC position to watch and learn. There’s less pressure on HC and no pressure on DP, and a season or two later he hits the ground running. Asking a brand new HC to groom a raw rookie QB, and run the team while he’s at it, that would be too much for most I think.
I think we can absolutely make the playoffs next year. Find the guys who lacked effort. Make an example of them. Upgrade in a few key spots. Hope Carson takes the next step.
Sky is the limit.
Wake me up when NFL Free Agency starts. The Eagles need to sign a starter at WR and at CB in FA. Then draft another starting CB (Likely 1st rounder) . I think we can come close to replacing Logan’s production at a much lesser cost. I would use that $$ to get the WR and CB in FA. If this team had real WR”s and CB’s we are a playoff team.
Wouldn’t bet on Logan costing that much. 5.5 sacks in 4 years. Those guys typically don’t sign big deals. Brockers isn’t a very good comparison either. Has 3x as many sacks in same time frame. Plus the DT FA class is gonna be deep.
Pay him linval Joseph money at about 6 mill per year else let him go
Thanks for the time. It was fun.
I don’t know about Ertz. He can get open. But he is inconsistent, doesn’t block well, drops too many passes, doesn’t make many special catches, makes too many mental mistakes, can’t break tackles, and gets no YAC.

I’m getting sick of hearing that Ertz has a bright future and that next year will be the year. This is his 4th season. I’m thinking if he was going to be “the guy” it would have happened. Every year we hear how good a receiver he is and how this is the year he breaks it open yet it never happens.
TE is definitely a position that can be upgraded, however so is WR, RB, CB x 2, DE, and we can’t neglect the OL in the draft anymore like Chip had. Is the upgrade at TE needed more than any of those other positions? I’d be ok with what they have at TE through next year if those other needs get taken care of first. If Howie can make it all happen this offseason, then watch out Dallas.
It’s not Ertz fault that Doug made Ags and Mathews the centerpiece of the offense all season and either had Ertz as a blocker or sitting on the sideline. It wasn’t until Ags benching that Ertz (and Burton) became factors. When called upon, he has been there to meet the challenge. It’s up to the coaches and the QB moreso than Ertz.
Don’t forget that Chip barely involved him in the passing game for 3 years because Chip believed blocking wasn’t most important thing for a TE.
My problem with him is what he did when asked to block, and all of his penalties. Sure he gets one more year to show that he deserves a lower end starting TE salary. Rookie Brent Celek was 10x better. Of this team used Brent over him more we MIGHT even have another win.
It is time to be introspective. This is an area that cost us BIG this season.
Whoa! Watch Ertz’s highlight reel and then watch Celek’s highlight reel. There is no comparison how much more of an athlete and pass catcher Ertz is over Celek. I love Brent, but there is a reason he was drafted in the 5th round and Ertz in the 2nd.

http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/videos/videos/Highlights-The-Best-Of-Brent-Celek/a2dc1090-d196-4f3f-997f-b1de454e59c4
I agree with you, and don’t think what you said counters my argument.
“Rookie Brent Celek was 10x better.”
So you think the rookie that had 178 yards receiving and 1 touchdown was 10X better than Ertz, who right now has 63 receptions for 644 yards and 2 TDs?
Ok ok, that was a bit of exaggeration. I tend to do that.
My point isn’t that he isn’t athletic and can’t catch. He is above average at those two things. He is just so far below average at everything else a tight end does.
Now we add in effort concerns? Not to mention penalties. I am out.
I seriously don’t get the penalties. It blows my mind how he can have so many stupid ones during his career.
I agree he tends to get hit in the thighs and goes right to the ground. As for the effort though, I think it’s more a balance issue.
When comparing him to Celek, I have some horrible memories of Celek fumbling balls and letting balls clang off his hands into a waiting defender’s grasp. The Eagles have lost more than a few games on Celek turnovers.
Agreed. He is a slightly above average pass catcher. Now he has added that he is a low effort, sloppy player. Be prepared to move on once his contract expires.
I hate that they just gave him an extension! Trey Burton is doing almost as well as he is with fewer targets. And a heck of a lot cheaper!
I prefer Burton for sure. I know he is small, but could he possibly block worse?
It says a lot that when the game has been on the line, seemingly all season, the number called is 47.
Doesn’t mean anything – Pederson likes going to Ags as well
You know. I just looked at Burton’s stats. His target number is much higher than I thought and his catch percentage is lower than I thought. Maybe I just like him because I am disappointed in Ertz.
He looks good with the ball in his hands, but that 58% catch percentage. Meh.
I like Logan, and he may get 10 mill, but Brockers is better.
I think I could live with losing Bennie, however I will be flat out flabbergasted if the Eagles don’t bring DeSean back to the nest.
Ugh no DeSean. I liked him as an Eagle and Chip was dumb for cutting him, but it would be a last resort option for me.
why>
Aging WR whose primary skill is the one most likely to decline with age (speed).
Depending on the contract, I wouldn’t be upset with bringing back DeSean, but by no means is he a guy I would go aggressively after. I don’t see him as a guy that suddenly flips this WR corps into a talented group. So if they are bringing him in as an additional piece but not treating him like a star FA WR signing that answers our holes at the position, that would be fine, but with DeSean, I have a feeling that would not be the case.
Guess you haven’t seen his highlight catch against the Skins…
The corpse of Desean Jackson would be a better WR than any two we have on this team. Assuming they can make the $ work, it’s a no-brainer in my opinion. A fast guy with moves who can catch for our QB who desperately needs help.
Would you be happy with 4 for 35 mil?
I’m not a salary cap guy, I guess it would just depend on how the rest of things work out. I’m not one to make up an arbitrary number and say “he’s not worth X.” If supply and demand says he’s $10/mil a year with a balloon payment in year 4 he’ll never see, and we need him, then I say go for it.
Good question. I think people are quick to remember the good times, and forget the bad times. At the end of his time in Philly fans were getting really frustrated with his play and effort. He developed the nickname MeSean because of this. He dogged it on the field and had a poor attitude in the locker room. He completely disappeared in the red zone. On top of this he is 3 years older. Can he still play? Sure, but for how long? One trick pony with speed. Two tricks if you count he can actually catch which I guess when considering the Eagles is an important trick. Regardless, once his speed goes so does his career. He doesn’t have size or strength to keep it going once it’s gone. He could step in and do alright but he can also quickly become unhappy for a number of reasons, and the last thing this team needs is a cancer in the locker room. His potential is not worth the problems he could cause. Doesn’t matter what deal he takes. I think they need young WRs that Wentz can throw to for years to come that can catch. I’m not against a vet free agent but I’d like them to have more upside than MeSean.
Duuude no mesean
I thought the team picked the right time to move on from DeSean, but I was hoping to get something in return… because I thought his speed would soon wear disappear.
I was wrong, and I want him back
Of course now we’re much closer to that looming speed drop-off. His contract should be contingent upon a sliding scale of off-season 40 times.
It’s not like djax is a volume receiver. He’s just that dude that when you’re stuck in a game he can give you an easy TD or flip the field for you and that can really change the dynamic and momentum of the game.
Yes there are other players that can do that – djax is just the best ever.
It’s my understanding that Schwartz’s scheme is designed to funnel plays to the DTs. I think DT is one place they’ll put resources consistently. I think CB and LB are the places where they’ll try to be bargain hunters, given the money they have tied up at S.
On offense, I bet WR is a bargain hunter position. RB will get some resources, though probably not financial. OL will be a priority. And TE will get more than the average team dedicates. Based off this year (obviously, small sample size, talent limitations, etc. caveats apply), Doug wants a WCO that will control the ball.
Just guessing at what they’ll do, as opposed to what I want them to do (I don’t have really strong opinions on that, other than I’ve always been a fan of big, dominant OLs, but this doesn’t look like the draft for that plan).
I don’t think LB can be under-appreciated as it was under AR/JJ. The scheme may call for directing traffic toward DT’s, but OC’s can see that and put more bodies there, and misdirect too. JJ had blitzes to compensate for mediocre pass rush, and corners that could play man coverage very well. Our current DL is stronger at DT than at end, and our pass rush needs upgrading, so I think we need to resign Bennie or then we’ll be looking at rebuilding at DT, DE and LB.
Schwartz was a guest at the Move the Sticks podcast one or two years ago and he said he would take a dominant DT over a dominant DE, given the choice. He argued that you simply can’t scheme against inside pressure, which leads to a collapsing pocket, while you can scheme against outside rush. He named Suh (who he worked with) and Watt as examples, obviously he worked with Dareus as well, who isn’t quite as good, but really good. He also had Haynesworth when he was with the Titans.
Obviously, Cox is that dominant DT for us. And Schwartz won’t make the call on Bennie. But I think he will lobby for it, because in his philosophy, as quoted above, he seems to highly value DTs.
And also, Schwartz first job in the NFL was as an assistant at Cleveland under Belichick, who also highly values DTs.
I hear you but elite DE disrupt way more plays.
I just quoted Schwartz. I’m not saying it’s a clear opinion I hold. What Von Miller did in the playoffs last year was crazy. He took over games from his position and he was clearly much more valuable than the QB or the RB. Just don’t see that very often. That’s clearly a counter argument for it.
I get where Schwartz is coming from. I don’t know if he’s right, though.
The D line is the group that really let me down this season. Bennie is probably the biggest let down of that group. Post kneee surgery Graham shoupd be the 4th, probably 5th best guy on that line. Not the best. He is the only one who met expectatiton. Is it only the players fault? Probably not…we remember how Washburn wasted Cox and Curry. Maybe this defense is no different.
Anyway you look at it Bennie didnt give close to 10 mill a year value. Cox and Curry both didnt give you the vang for the buck. With so much already invested ina line that should of carried this team to 11 wins, how do you justify paying Ben?
Im sad and it sucks but I think we need to move on.
The defense was rocking early in the season, on the strength of the D line. The pass rush has been disappointing at times when they have had time, but our secondary got stretched way too thin. The majority of the time QB’s were just getting the ball out too fast on us. Would like to see our D-line take a page out of Baltimore’s book in those situations, focus on getting those hands up, get in those passing lanes. Otherwise I like our D-line, I think we need to add a couple of pieces and it will be great.
Teams did focus on getting the ball out quickly against us at the start of games. The results when they didn’t is what bother me.
Even late game, a common theme I’ve is the pass rush putting a QB under duress, me getting excited, then the QB lobbing a throw he can’t step into right to a completely uncontested WR. Even QB’s not known for being clutch, lots of QB’s looking like HOF QB’s handling a messy pocket and delivering strikes to wide-open players. These are daggers, it’s killing us.
Maybe I am being a little harsh on the line. Not sure. Going to stand by it though. I feel like they should easily be best Eagles line of the last 20 years and they aren’t even close. Its disappointing.
Don’t want to blow it up at all or anything. Certainly don’t want to dump more money into the current product though.
Graham finally meeting his potential is a good thing, not a bad thing.
Graham in a box is great. Add context of the rest of the post and it makes more sense. He has played to this level for a few years now, which I now expect. He should not be our best lineman by far. That disappoints me.
Be interesting to see what coaches say about curry – didn’t seem like the same person at all this year – hopefully injury related.
Just hope he can get it back on track.
Barwin and Curry are the problem. Bennie isn’t playing dominant, but he’s good. Cox doesn’t get the numbers, but he’s good also. Graham doesn’t get the sacks, but he gets the hurries and he’s stout against the run.
I love Barwin as a person, but he just doesn’t get it done. Curry doesn’t play nearly enough considering how poorly Barwin plays, but he doesn’t set the world on fire when he plays, also. If that’s up to him or if it’s up to Schwartz, I don’t know. But the fact of the matter is: in this scheme, with the goal to drop 7 into coverage and get a good pass rush with 4, we’re not even close of getting enough pass rush out of our RDE.
That’s the reason why we also don’t really need two or three new CBs next year. We need a #1. That’s tough to find, I know. But despite their flaws, Carroll and McKelvin (if healthy) are good enough to be a CB #2 in this scheme. We have two slighty under avg. CB #2s and nowhere near a CB #1. If we would have that, everything would be different.
Bennie isn’t worth what he is going to cost. If we get him for an average starting DT salary, I would be willing to entertain it. To be honest I would rather bring in someone who can rush the passer.
I like Bennie and felt like he could be close to as good was Cox was last year. I would love another year of cheap ball to see where he is at. We don’t get that.
I agree we should move on from Barwin too. Luckily he is under contract, so we can make sure we have an upgrade first.
Letting Bennie walk adds another hole to the team. Beau Allen is a great role player and situational guy, but Bennie is the whole package. Once you find a core guy in the draft, you have to hang on to him.
I want the Eagles to take care of their guys, sign them up, and build through the draft. Spend picks, not free agent dollars, on the secondary and o-line.
Only if the Eagles were good at drafting CBs…
Love Logan. Really special player.
Someone like Barwin is going to walk the plank this year and should help free up some sweet cash money to help bring Bennie back.
Bennie should just have Barwin do a direct transfer on his contract.
If the Eagles bring Desean back, how awkward is it going to be the first time ESP tries to interview him.
“Yeah.”
“Yeah.”
“…Yeah.”
Not to mention the great “Who wears #10?” debate between him and Chase Daniel…
Desean should get to imo
Pretty sure Daniel won’t Chase him.
Imagine DGB turns out to be the player he showed in the first offense series against the Packers?!
And DRC…
and Bradford (preseason)
and Jeremy Bloom….
And Kevin Klob
And Dion Lewis
And Byron Maxwell.
Keep going guys. Loving it.
And Sonces
And Agholar at USC
And chip Kelly.
And the person that billy davis was in his press conferences.
Not seeing 10mm a year for Logan unless some team is beyond desperate
Like the Giants this past offseason?
I hope we don’t pay Bennie a ton. We had the same guy in him with Thornton (arguably better pass rusher too) but decided to let him go.
Thorton and Bennie are not the same. Run defense is night and day when he’s not in the game.
Thornton was a run stopping specialist too.
Bennie is supposed to be a guy who can rush the passer.
Key word: supposed to.
But he’s not.
Which is why you dont pay him…
Nothing to post, just wanted to see how my new avatar looks.
#20inCanton
I’d say “pretty sweet.” Well done.
I’d say “pretty awesome”.
In the ex-player coaching category, can we get that guy in and remove Greg Lewis?
Nice one…
it is mere coincidence that over the years so many jerks play for Duke? Is it a chicken and egg thing, where is it because Duke recruits jerks or Duke makes them into jerks.
K suspended him, the GOAT, did the right thing, I hope he learns from it if not move on
http://observer.com/2015/04/why-do-we-all-hate-duke/
Probably both. If you aren’t a jerk and go there, the culture probably makes you one after 4 years.
Would you rather see get to the Super bowl next Cowboys or Giants? Yep I’m actually rooting for the Giants cuz I don’t want to see the Cowboys in the Super Bowl ever
Between Big D All Ass and the New York FOOTBALL Gints, can I pick Seattle or Green Bay?
Big D all ASS wins
neither doesn’t work

Almost forgot we play tonight!
All i want for a Xmas is a win against the Giants tonight with Carson Wentz finally posting his first 4th Quarter victory in his young and future HoF career.
Fucking Lane Johnson… The difference between him and anyone else is absurd.
can he get sponsored by some legit supplement manufacturer or something? give him a big incentive to stay clean
he has $20mil reasons to stay clean at the moment…
obviously needs more though, I guess
Well this suspension only cost him his guarantees and a couple of $mil. Next one gets seriously expensive for him personally.
best RT in football… by a lot. Think some of the hottakes will calm down once we beat the giants and cowgirls to finish out the year.
I mean, Peters run blocks very well too. Although JP can’t get out in front of runners as well as Lane does anymore.
Sproles making defenders look stupid, as usual
Be still my heart…
Thought I was in the twilight zone. Game on no comments. Was even refreshing page.
Giants week and no game day thread either… Hope thing are all well with Tommy, but man, fans are defeated this season. You would think people would still be around to talk about Wentz at the very least.
We’re still here, though.
I mean sure, there are a few, but even here has been fairly quiet. Since the game started, we have two TDs and there are what, 5 posts?
Yeah, I know. Some of the game threads early on had over 500 posts by halftime.
There were literally no comments until after 2 drives!
TBH I wasn’t even aware they were playing today.
Haha, fuck you Giants.
So incredibly overrated. I know, never count out the Giants in the playoffs, but they are so not the 2nd best team in the NFC.
They’re probably not even 2nd best in the NFCE.
Meh, I’ll take Giants over the Redskins, but Eli has been falling apart and thats a surefire way to get booted from the playoffs.
Even the Cowboys with Dak fading, their defense being overrated and their OLs pass blocking being overrated, albeit still firmly top-10 in the league, Cowboys aren’t the surefire NFC super bowl participant just yet.
People are down on the Seahawks, understandably, but that defense wins championships, especially with Russell Wilson.
I can see both the Cowboys and Giants struggle to keep up with the pointscoring potential of Atlanta and partly Detroit.
Hell, get Aaron Rodgers in the playoffs, and i’d be scared if he had our WRs and no OL.
Forgot about atlanta…
Malcolm. Mr. Bowtie. I think I’m in love.
Doug Pederson’s to do list for next year:
1. Stop Lane Johnson from getting suspended
2. Draft a wide receiver without stone hands
3. Stop Lane Johnson from getting suspended
4. Draft a cornerback
5. Stop Lane Johnson from getting suspended
IDK, I really think the key is to secure the OL you kinda left that one out. We need to start with stopping Lane Johnson from getting suspended.
*Strokes chin*
True, true.
Don’t forget: Keep Johnson clean and healthy.
It is important to keep your Johnson clean and healthy.
Exactly.
the MIB theme, I like that
Hahahaha. That agolor….what a card.
A tard .. what a tard
Oh jeez! Come on Ags. It’s unbelievable how bad he is.
jesus christ………………………………….. JESUS CHRIST
I repeat… JESUS MOTHERFUCKING CHRIST
you really have a dirty mouth
I guess I need an Orbit.
no, you need to have your mouth washed out with a dildo
Interesting that that’s what came to mind for you.

free Treggs. Bench agholor
Free Turner. Let the PT Cruiser roll.
Throw to Burton needs to be cleaner from Wentz. It’s an easy throw and he needs to give Burton a better opportunity to run after catch
Wow, Sproles was PISSED whoever that was missed the block.
I think Barbre thought Sproles was outside of him
How msny drops for Ags tonite ??
Over and under is 3.5
Yuck. 99% playing time
What was that Hemingway book where residents had to run through the line while getting clubbed… I feel like that should be Eagles fans with Agholor running through the line.
Don’t know, but sounds like “running the gauntlet.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Running_the_gauntlet
Yeah it’s like that.
how does one WR suck so bad, for so long
Head case
That was Watkins late over the top again.
At some point we have to acknowledge that we dont have a corner on the roster who can cover any WR who is remotely above average.
our corners couldnt cover Ags, or tackle ertz
yea, but Ags would drop it and Ertz would trip.
well yeah, there is that
Granted, but I think swapping Brooks out and Watkins in is the reason our corners look so much worse than the start of the year.
Carroll plays well for streaks
I agree, Carroll does a serviceable job against no. 2 WRs, its just that so many teams are starting to have 2 really good WRs.
If we get a star corner and Nolan is the no. 2 for the next 5 years, then thats most certainly acceptable. Not much more. Good player, players hard and deserves to be on the roster, but not anything more than a No. 2 CB, and thats probably even giving him a little to much credit at times.
Way too many holes though, Nolan really should be our no. 2 corner next year. He isn’t a detriment out there, and some starters, well are.
Why would Carroll be here for another 5 years?
We apparently suck at finding CBs. I’m having a hard time seeing us end up with 2 corners better than Nolan Carroll very soon. We should, we most certainly should, I just dont think we will.
On the other hand, he is older than I remembered.
He had a solid hit on the RB. Of course, it doesn’t speak well fir a safety that a solid hit is noteworthy.
Is instincts are terrible for a S. Id rather have Jenkins at S and Watkins in the slot
Wow McKelvin got SOOOOOO lucky.
Hopefully the success gives him a big head. He will be shutdown.
Made dinner, tuned in and we’re actually leading in the first half. What year is it?
you missed Ags drop a beautiful slant pass
I felt slightly better not knowing that.
If he caught it he might still be running…
He did get wide open 10 yds downfield, so there’s that.
Don’t be so dramatic, the Eagles are undefeated 5 out the 7 days in a week.
Where does Agholor rank on the WR loathing index? Is he lower than James Thrash? Todd Pinkston? Freddie Mitchell? Reggie Brown? Maybe somewhere around Jeremy Bloom?
With Freddie.
Riley Cooper
Ags
Freddie Mitchell
Something tells me Cooper wouldn’t have cared for Agholor.
I would be fine if Cooper fought Ags.
Why was Jeremy Bloom loathed? He was a 5th round skier.
at what point do you bench ags, oh wait, only a couple games left, too late I guess
To be fair, we did that.
i mean permanant
Eagles are slighlty better with Lane in the mix….
That was interesting how DRC came back for the ball. Treggs should try that.
Thought that at first, but it looked like he was changing directions too so wasn’t able to accelerate back to the ball easily. I could be wrong though.
Looked to me like he was waiting on it.
Wasnt that our man Turner?? I was ready to call out treggs … im rewinding now
16
Yep . Tanks .. i think Treggs sucks
treggs
It looked nice then you woke up and realized you were way too drunk.
well here we go, same ol , same ol
Giants fans feeling exact same
Ubelievable. Carson says he likes brett farve, that was a brett farve play.
Although looks like he’s been watching a lot of Russell Wilson so that’s good.
Also DRC is a better WR than our WRs — former eagles killing us 2 weeks in a row.
Basically a punt, whatever. Amazing shit before the throw lol.
Thats on Treggs. Don’t just stand there like an idiot.
And Turner
DRC would be the best WR on this team if we kept him.
mannings off right now
Not exactly a well oiled machine, these Giants
Isn’t Thursday night football great?
ken barbre is such a wimp,
Sweet, more OL injuries.
ohhh. He completed that pass, but that looked incredibly dangerous.
yep, I was thinking pick 6
Throwing across your body on the run with the defender in front of the receiver…. Would have helped to see the space celek had better, but looked incredibly risky.
3 drops fir Giants already
I am glad to hear Collinsworth wants to gisish off on Cox.
No blue balls here.
Graham must be REALLY fast. How long does it take for Eli to decide he should throw on Watkins?
Wind must be crazy at the stadium. All the kicks seem to have a serious knuckleball movement.
Thursday night football is on Christmas Day? I am very confused.
Damn, that was an impressive move by DGB.
Yeah. For a screen, that was terribly blocked — two tacklers were free but DGB got by both with a deke.
Jordan Matthews doesnt make the play on that screen
See, Dug is learning!
Another DGB flash
Wentz sold that foul. Very savvy.
Agholor is awesome!
Wait…. what??? Who? No…. Can’t be?!
Ha HA!!!!
An Agholor bomb and he held on to it?!
https://media.giphy.com/media/ohBeIPJ4MEuas/giphy.gif
And another knuckleballer.
The good thing about this is winning hurts the browns so it’s not like Week 17 of last year.
Show of hands…who has Agolor on their fantasy team.
You just said hands and Agholor in the same sentence. Drink!
The fact that he combined those words may indicate that he already has been drinking
HaRd to be an Eagles fan and not drink.
I’ll drink to that. In fact, I am.
So, the Lane suspension was exactly the right length to ruin our season, is that about right?
Yup.
Yeah that sounds about right.
Would have been better if he was suspended to start the year. Those were some of the easiest Ds we played.
Lane Johnson was constructive during his 10 weeks off. He went in search of Agholor’s hands and brought them back with him.
I don’t know – that drop earlier was atrocious and he caught that TD like it was a live grenade
I missed most of the first half. I had a Christmas Party to be at, so I”m just now sitting down to watch the game.
Well shame on you. If you can bring a deep TD to Agholor with you, you should never miss a second of any game ever
I apparently bring deep passes for Victor Cruz too, so this could be a double edged sword.
That is an odd visual. I would say he handles most of the other passes like they are live grenades. Let it go past and keep running.
Yeah probably not the proper metaphor…maybe should have gone with a newborn baby or something
That image made me truly LOL.
Now I’m imagining Wentz throwing a baby with a perfect spiral….
Slight under throw
Elle oh elle
25 lb hot turkey on a flat metal tray
Watching that Agholor td, I have no jokes, only tears.
he’ll follow it with a drop or 6
Happy for him.
If this were Madden, I would just go shotgun every down with Manning and throw against McKelvin or Mills.
Find Watkins, throw there.
Those are horrible odds when you can attack 3/5ths of our nickel package with success.
This is the ultimate bend but don’t break gameplan by gym shorts, but this defense isn’t exactly bamboo
One day, I want to have a don’t bend, don’t break defense again.
Well, even with JJ, he’d let them get to the 40 without too much resistance.
Yep, I would take that…but ’91?
Eagles are top 5 in red zone defense this year. That hasn’t been a problem.
Much easier to defend a short field.
I could easily see Jim Schwartz as a tyrannical middle school/jr. high gym teacher in multiple alternative universes.
This has nothing to do with his game plan or your post.
We’ve held a 10 win team to 6 points in a half and you guys are complaining?
Not complaining at all just expecting the worst…
6 points in 29 minutes anyways… but 30 minute in a half. They have played pretty well, but lots of long drives by the Giants.
Snap
Pld dont do that yo
If Ags could consistently catch it, we might have a modestly competent WR. So nice to see Wentz getting a clean pocket too.
If he can compete for and catch the ball I’d say he’d be more than modestly competent with his athleticism
Graham!!
Drop!
Wow. WIIIIIIIIIIIDE open.
we’re gonna lose, I can feel it, he destroyed jenkins
Jenkins beat like a drum.
With press man skills like that, maybe we should try moving Jenkins to safety.
I don’t think any of our receivers could beat the press like that.
Now you guys know why Jenkins isn’t a CB anymore.
In a perfect world at least. Somehow he ends up there every year it seems.
It’s kinda weird how Watkins is better as a CB and Jenkins is better as a safety. Schwartz put them in their worst positions.
Watkins is really better at CB? I argue he is a sieve regardless of where you put him .
Watkins can stick to most guys. His issue was tackling and he’s better now than he was before at it.
Secondary is getting torched. Disgusting.
Disgusting is a bit strong. Their receivers are good and our corners are not.
You’re right about their WRs. The level of play is still lacking and if these guys aren’t going to cover well, then they better lay the wood on these WRs.
I could live with that.
Quick wants them to throw it down the field and gamble. I’d do the exact opposite normally of what he suggests including here.
Whose worse, Agholor or McKelvin?
Agholor.
McKelvin. Even Agholor could have a big day against him.
Now, who is more frustrating and disappointing?
Agholor could get open against McKelvin, but that doesn’t mean he’d actually catch the ball.
He would be open so often, though, that he would catch at least two or three – career day.
So true.
McKelvin has been a gimp though most of the season and is a marginal veteran.
Yeah Agholor held on to the bomb for a TD (barefully) but he also had a big drop yet again.
I think McKelvin’s body is just giving out at this point
He’s missed a lot of games throughout his career.
When the screen works, it’s a beautiful thing but when it doesn’t…
There was one earlier on a 3rd down where the Eagles had two blockers out in front and somehow a tackler came in untouched and got Sproles one yard before the 1st down.
Either Barbre or Kelce missed the block.
Landon Collins made a heck of a tackle, but either LJ or Barbre really needed to put hands on him. They let him slip through the cracks which cost the offense a potential huge gain.
May have been Wade, not Collins.
You have to love how Sproles lays it on the line and played this half.
So…did Tommy forget there is a game tonight?
Worried about him
What game?
Norway/Iceland Curling on ESPN8.
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Idaho vs Colorado State on ESPN
Flyers Devils on MSG
Hefnd for the Icelanders!
I hope it’s that
My dad is here from Germany to celebrate Xmas with us. He barely knows American football but constantly points out how badly #21 is being beaten. Lol.
christmas
What the hell happened on that run?
Kelce missed a block
You might want to copy that comment to your clipboard for future use.
I’m.hoping I don’t have to.use that line next year. Someone will remind me he was 2nd in pro bowl voting
Another terrible decision by Wentz. That should have been another INT.
When targeting Agholor isn’t the worst decision on a play, it was a bad one.
I’ll see your bad decision and raise.
Ben McAdoo’s tiny head and bright hoodie make him look like he is wearing an inflatable suit.
The thin 70’s porn stache really brings the whole ensemble together
We can’t play zone D. We can’t even play zipcode D.
That’s disheartening because we’re pretty bad in straight man coverage too…
at least that way there’s a defender in the same camera shot, though
True even if he’s uselessly flailing his arms without looking back for the ball there’s still hope that it may ricochet off the back of his helmet like how McKelvin defended that end zone pass
This secondary is sooooooo bad
Feels like a half where the Giants drop 21+ pts on the Eagles and win a wild finish capped by a Wentz INT.
Not to talk ill of the injured, so instead…how bad must the guy be who is behind Watkins on the depth chart? Time to find out.
It’s Margos isn’t it?
New thread somewhere? ?
nope, just a lack of interest
Some gloi yup
Ive been noticing on probably 80percent of the plays on offfense and defense, the eagles are worthless pukes, thats what Ive noticed
Why is it that every season late in the year the past several years this defense ends up being a sieve despite new schemes, coordinators, and players?
It makes me feel like this:
http://oliversmith.cc/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Screen-Shot-2014-11-26-at-14.17.30-e1417011526324-640×469.png
Another red zone stand at least.
The defense has been bad for months, they’re actually playing better tonight than the past month
I really like Logan, but $10M a year is just way too much. You’re just not going to have a competitive team if you keep handing out $10M a year contracts to players who are not difference makers. The NFL these days is about making and stopping big plays. You need playmakers, people that can make things happen on their own with their skill set. Bennie simply is not a difference making playmaker, as solid as he is.
Last time I can remember a team that invested big dollars at both DT positions in a 4-3 was the Redskins with Stubblefield and Wilkinson. Didn’t exactly turn out too well for them.
Whenever they do a shot overhead from the Goodyear blimp, you realize how many empty seats there are.
My friends said tons in the upper end zones with whole section barely filled and even a bit of empty beats in the lower level.
I have never seen an offensive player dive at guys with the ball in their hands until Ertz came into the league.
I know its popular to hate on Ertz, but you’re ridiculous.
Remember self taclin Jeremy Maclin? We’re not even going back 5 years.
Nah you’re the ridiculous one.
He said diving at guys, not to the ground. Ertz has a weird way of initiating contact in such a way that, even if he wins, he ends up on the ground.
Ertz need to be tougher, no question, but Maclin would literally routinely dive down right in front of opponents before a first down, just like DeMarco did.
Acting like its something only Ertz does is crazy and just plain wrong. It needs to stop, but plenty of players in the NFL looks like they’re afraid of contact.
Again, the comment isn’t about AVOIDING contact, it is about DIVING AT GUYS.
Surprised if Wentz doesn’t have a bruised shoulder. Maybe even a partial dislocation.
Chase Daniels is in. Oh god.
Good lookin’ out, Peters.
Shovel pass just as it was designed!
That was sweeeet
Cmon chase! Give us some trade value!
Before we put this in, can we please punish Oliver for hurting our QB?
Go for it Pederson!
Looks like a big run stuffer for the Giants will be out for at least this play…
4th and inches, Snacks is out, go for it.
God, this is terrible.
even if we kick the FG it’s still a one score game, so going for it not a bad choice in itself
Except it would have been a TD + 2 pt conversion. I like Pederson being aggressive, but that was borderline reckless. To me, I can defend most of Pederson’s aggressive moves, this one was reckless.
I don’t think 24 pts wins this game for the Eagles though.
Yea, but you have to play the probabilities right? That’s the whole reason you can defend Pederson’s decisions to go for it. The probabilities of winning the game ahead by 8 are significantly higher than winning the game ahead by 5.
Yeah they also have Daniel in at QB too. There times Pederson does seem to make some really foolish gambles but I didn’t mind that one.
I’m OK going with it there, but we just don’t seem to block those runs well. Seems like Peters did get some push but tacklers came around him before Mathews could get there.
Ugh.
Ugg. Still, I like the call. Now get me a damned safety.
That sums up the Eagles season. So close…but not good enough.
Nah this sums it up a bit better:
https://cdn.meme.am/cache/instances/folder339/55754339.jpg
I just noticed my entire family is in bed and I didn’t acknowledge any of them headed up.
I definitely would have gone for the field goal there
Im ok with the decision to go for it
Me too.. but 3 pts was more vsluable than the 7
I will tell you guys what the obvious right call was after the game ends.
What if we dont see it
Take solace in knowing that I was right all along.
Thank you for the solace.
Prescient.
Quinessential Eagles’ fan:
Before: Show some balls Pederson and go for it!
After: You idiot Pederson. You could have been up 8 and you did this same stuff in the first Giants’ game.
Quintessential in a good way .. fans’ right.
Same. This would be a good offense if we had one competent WR.
Psyched that Chicago Med is voming back. .. great show.
Bwah!!!!!
MANNING FACE!!!
Jenkins made a great read, adjusted a bit and actually caught the ball!
Do prefer Jenkins at safety…
Ok, now make them pay for that.
However many times Kia thought the Bo Jackson Tecmo Bowl commercial idea would be funny, they overestimated by 400%.
lame so lame .. i was going to rewind wtf ran that ad anyway but i was more inspired not to care …
I’m going to really miss Darren Sproles when he eventually retires.
Yeah I have really grown to appreciate how hard he plays.
Mills in great coverage on that interception.
Holy fuck! How the… what…. where? I don’t even know how he escaped that.
Yep. I don’t mind looking forward to that.
Is Bens headset not working again? Who didn’t stop him from throwing that flag?
Looks like the refs let him get out of that bad challenge. May not be challengeable, alas, that was a guaranteed lost timeout.
There should be some punishment for him throwing the flag there
That actually gained positive yards.
Only because of a lead block by Wentz. Not sure I like that play design after a near-concussion.
I was just going to say what an increasingly foolish decision. He has made several ill-advised ones tonight.
I doubt the play truly intends for Wentz to go out an make a block like that. I think that was a decision made by Wentz.
which was brave of him, but not smart.
Right.
Could we not use our franchise as a lead blocker?
Way to get them back for the hit Wentz!
Carson MF Vick.
Oh…. come on. Be smart with sacrificing your body like that in a game that we obviously want to win, but will be meaningless regardless.
Talk about a Pyrrhic victory if he got hurt on a play like that.
Wow, I had to look that one up.
And spelled nicely
I counter your Phyrric Victory with an Occams Razor
He is putting defenders down to send a message to Oliver. “I will destroy everyone you care about. Then, I will come for you. “
Does he do it while singing Nickelback’s ‘I’d Come For you?’
I am hearing For Whom The Bell Tolls.
I think ill design a play to Ags where Wentz blocks …
If you do,
We will use it
..
WTF
Everyone in that meeting gets fired.
I think that’s a good challenge.
Yeah – weird to say – but Ags caught that
OF COURSE AGs makes that catch…. WTH.
That was a catch actually.
I know. I wasn’t being sarcastic.
Hard to believe, andy, but he caught it. Side judge didn’t think it possible.
https://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/48500187.jpg
Power sturge is making a believer out of me
props to Donny Jones too, those long snaps still need some handling
By the way, to put the decision in some level of perspective from 4th and goal: We currently would be up two scores had we just simply gone for the FG earlier. Obviously that’s hind sight, but it is one of the many scenarios where our win probability would have gone up significantly up 8 at that time rather than up 5.
Yep. Having a good play on third really cost us.
I don’t think we would have gotten within FG range on that drive if the Giants hadn’t started at the 2. So, it may be a wash.
Sure. My point though is that had we gone up 8 earlier. A FG on a subsequent drive makes it a two score game. Instead, a FG on a subsequent drive in this case, keeps the game within one score. Obviously the circumstances of that subsequent FG wouldn’t necessarily be the same in the different scenarios though.
Right, but that is also part of the calculation of going for it on the goal line — if you are short, you are giving them possession very deep, and any kind of a stop often gets you the ball back in very good field position to at least get that FG that you passed up. Even if the plays were the same after that, the Giants start 20+ yards further downfield, and we aren’t in position to get the FG there, and punt — so we still have an 8-point lead and the Giants have the ball. And that is forgoing a 50-50 shot of getting the TD in the first place. In a 5-9 season especially… don’t have a big issue with it.
No. That ignores one of the benefits of going for it at the goal line – field position. If Giants had started their next drive from their 25 after a touchback on kickoff after a FG, instead of at their own 2 yard line, we’d have ended up out of FG range and been punting. So even though we missed the 4th down try, we’ve still ended up in the same position.
Great point.
Very fair point.
Agree.i love going for it .. but the risk/reward was heavily for the FG. Too bad our coachEs dint know
Beckham – 7 catches, 122 yards. Underachiever.
Against our secondary he should have more catches and yards in one game than our leading reciever in a season
We owned him, we owned him!
Odell might be the player to invoke hatred as quickly as any I remember. I dislike him at a 10-year vet level.
He is still no Michael Irvin.
Odell didn’t go to the U
Doubt he does as much blow as Irvin did either during his playing career.
THE cocaine cowboy
I dont. Players are just smarter about cleaning tables with their faces
My dog is greatful for the way that call went.
That was fortunate. I’d be mad if that was reversed
Amazes me how routine even 41-yard FGs have become.
Come on guys, make this drive last.
U gotta be kidding me Jordan. Awareness and body control
I don’t know if he could do anything to get down on that route.
Not a great throw by Wentz but man watching Agholor continue to fail is like watching a bad slasher sequel from the 80s.
The plot is so predictable as is the eventual outcome.
Not sure that was Ags fault. The defense just affected the throw
Wentz got pressured and it wasn’t a great throw. Just got no seperation on that play.
The separation wasnt an issue. Wentz just got hit as he threw
Looked like Ertz was the better choice there…and not just because he isn’t Agholor. Looked open to me
Well, at least the defense didn’t have to worry about stiffening up…
Eagles’ D looks really gassed. Everybody looking and reacting slow.
Trying to save enough time to give Carson a chance
Cox was so badly held.
McKelvin making a play! Now do it again….
Thought it could have been picked
Lol. Baby steps dude…
The Wr was between the DB and the ball
Better throw wudve been td
Challenge
Curry was effing TACKLED!!
That’s a generous spot I think…
Agholor caught a TD and McKelvin saved one. All that we need is for Parkey to run one in.
Ertz breaking a tackle for a game ending first down?
They say anything is possible…
Game winning challenge? 🙂
Ugh… I hate these challenging the spot situations. The amount of evidence required to get it overruled is completely unreasonable. Certainly looks like he never got the first, but I just don’t like having to challenge this play.
I reverse jinxed the shit out of that!
I think it was a good challenge. 😉
Oh, i wasn’t complaining about Doug Challenging it by any means. I was complaining about the situation.
Eagles’ defense has given up their share of yards but they have made the plays when they had to.
It is a shame Mathews isn’t trusted here.
Sproles all day please
Agreed. But Mathews has the build for this.
Hasn’t he fumbled like 9 times on drives where we need to run the clock out?
Honestly, I just wish we even had 9 opportunities to run out the clock this season…
Two… but he trained someone else who had another.
Was he injured earlier?
Schwartz isn’t perfect but at least he doubled Beckham there… billy D would have had Bradley fletcher 1 on 1 with him there
Aggressive duggywill probably pass
I hate being right
Called it.
I very concerned tha Doug is quite possibly a moron.
I mean this is what I will say for him. He is aggressive and takes the idea of playing to win rather than playing not to lose to an extreme. It is unconventional, and frankly in many cases it is the statistically appropriate thing to do, but in some cases, he is certainly making things harder for the Eagles. The challenging question to answer without the statistics in front of you though is as a whole, is he being aggressive and getting unlucky with the results or on the whole or is he being aggressive and it is reckless.
Agreed – but I would also say that the statistics wouldn’t even tell the whole story though. He has a rookie QB and no playmakers- our O is always going to under perform the stats – hence not getting un lucky but performing as expected which should make a coach alter course
It’ll look better when the team’s a bit more competent and executes better.
Terrible play call.
Cslled a GIFT
Jordan was interfered with just as much as Carroll did on the 4th down play. Given our WRs, and the fact that the refs are going to let the DBs get away with a fair amount, not sure that’s a good play call — need to really fool the Giants and get wide open for that to work.
it looks like Eli sometimes closes his eyes and just heaves the ball.
Christ Doug, at least make them burn the timeout. If you want a pass, make it one with a high completion percentage or a accept a sack, just leave the clock running.
Worst playcalling ever.
Mills picks it off and steps on Odell as he trots out of bounds.
Cover the sideline
Nice work, Rook.
Hey a win
SEason is over, but goddamn it feels good to win a one possession game.
Ignore that bitter aftertaste of helping Dallas.
I assumed they were going to do that anyways, so yes, I will ignore that.
Someone hit Eli on that throw, made it short.
Curry.
Ah, thanks.
http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/vqGeMsr.gif
Game ends on Manning Face. Can’t be happier.
So… that means we see the Cowboys backups next week. Probably Romo too!
Beckham didn’t stick around. What a sore loser.
Hope we get some corners so we don’t have to use that gawd awful defensive game plan again
It worked.
I didn’t say it didn’t work so What’s your point?
Entertaining game and keep the Giants from clinching a playoffs spot.
Yay, go team.
Giants simply went away from the run too much in the 2nd half.
Man… we inflict a damaging loss on the Giants, and even the satisfaction of that is tainted by the fact that it helped Dallas clinch the #1 seed.
Been that kind of year.
I’ll be perfectly happy if the Cowboys go a bit cold in the playoffs and go out in the first game.
Yeah, that would be nice. Ideally the Super Bowl hype train has a chance to get rolling and the Cowboys fans have been puffing themselves up for 3-4 weeks before the team comes out and craps the bed in the divisional round.
Does it seem like it is foregone conclusion it will be a Cowboys-Seahawks NFC Championship game?
That’s the matchup I expect but nothing’s a foregone conclusion. The Giants for one have played the Cowboys very tough this year and I think a team like the Packers or Lions could give them trouble also.
Can Gints beat big D all Ass 3 times in 1 season ?????
Perfectly happy ??? Hellll yeah.. only thing better than sad Eli Face is the sad Jerry face !!
I’m sad we won’t get to inflict that on Jerry this year… we won’t even get to beat them up before the playoffs because they’ll be playing the scrubs.
Yea, we’ll get to beat up on Romo.
Dallas will clinch regardless and it never is a bad thing to see the ‘Eli face’ and beat the stinking Giants.
Heather Cox shud definitely interview FLetcher COX ..ahh there he is
Cox on Cox makes me giggle.
Like tickling ….?
To each his own.
wins feel good
I don’t know how I feel about Wentz’s performance tonight. Some good scrambles and made some plays but several poor/ill-advised plays too including that block on the WR reverse.
He’s the real deal. Imagine him with real WRs?!
He’s a rookie. He is going to do some dumb ish. Just have to hope he isnt doing the same stuff in year 3
Say what you want about him, but Jakes Mills is a baller.
Doug did his best to blow it on the last 2 eagles drives, stopping the clock for them twice and letting them keep a timeout. Luckily the players overcame his general ineptitude. Also, maybe don’t call the double reverse forcing your QB to block right after coming back from concussion protocol…just saying.
why are you here
Sack this bum… *smh
Sooo, you’re arguing that a deep ball on 3rd down trying to waste time when we have one of the weakest wide receiving groups in the league to the wideout who has been reduced to mostly a non factor the past few games with an ankle injury allowing the giants to keep their time out and get the ball back with ov er 1:30 left is a good play call? Talk about SMH…
Wow, you inferred all of that from his three word comment? Impressive.
Let’s try another one. What movie title am I thinking of right now?
Animal House. Naturally.
I am disappointed, that is incorrect. Now I left wondering about your last inference as well.
You were but you didn’t know it. Plus I bet you are thinking sbout it now. Unless German meant sack Pederson. To that I say its probably inevitable, but you have to give him through next season.
Not actually interested in what I was thinking, just telling me what I was thinking so you can explain why I am wrong? Now that fits with your other comments.
Not interested in what you yourself are thinking? I’m sorry you are so boring to yourself. Must be a hard way to live.
Kind of zen.

Good chance to win next week and get to 6-2 this year at the Linc. Best home record since ’04 (7-1).
Such a shame that worsened our draft position..
Worth it
In the second round.. by a couple of picks… that point at which your picks are a crap shoot
I dont think 2nd and 3rd round picks are crap shoots but Im ok with the win.
I don’t think the pick itself is a crap shoot, but pretending you can tell the difference in talent between pick 42 and 46 is fantasy.
I think its more about ensuring you get the player you want. Better of chance of that happening the earlier you pick.
Not in the first round. We just hurt Cleveland’s position.
Sarcasm, do you know?!
Must have been lost in translation 😛
Almost like gifting Dallas the NFC #1 seed.
Beckham had 20 targets – 11 catches, 150 yards but no TDs.
just imagine if we had him, I dont like him, but he’s great, so is Ags
That’s what we did to what’s his face in the Atlanta game. Probably better to over help the CBs and hope the DL and LBs can limit the RB damage without box safety.
Good point. Jones had 16 targets – 10 catches, 135 yards but no TDs either.
Gashed them but no fatal wounds. Beckham did the same thing tonight.
It is truly unfair that we will never get to enjoy a season of Eli throwing to crappy receivers.
Love to see him challenge the NFL season record for INTs.
20 targets is craz,y lets you know what they think of everyone else on that team
Just back from watching at a bar with friends. General thoughts from the gang here?
Im on like a pot of neck bones tonight
Team and staff really need to grow
ags still sux, but he did catch a td, dropped a perfectly thrown slant, corners suck, but seeing eli’s face……………….priceless
Federal vodka bar ?
I approve. Bars and friends are a good way to watch the game.
Ags had s drop, then s TD, then a lame but decent kick return, then almost drew wentz into an interception, then an end around with Wentz blocking for him, then won a challenged catch that easliy could have have not been a catch, then
I like tacos?
Feels good to get a W. Though it was much different than the Ws against the giants when CK was here. Those were dominant. Wentz looks good scrambling.
Giants ran the ball effectively most of the night since the Eagles were playing two-deep coverage with the safeties all night long to help McKelvin/Mills deep.
If I was a Giants’ fan, I’d be pissed at the playing calling in this game especially in the 2nd half.
Good point. They never forced us to consider addressing the run game.
We did bend a lot but broke only once…
Eagles were 5th in Red Zone defense coming in and likely goes up after this week.
Well, that’s the first Eagles game I’ve missed in almost a decade. Completely spaced that it was tonight. Only solace was that once I remembered there was only 2:00 or so in the Q4, so I at least caught that….
best part of the game 3 picks for the defense isn’t bad.
I didn’t know it was going on either. I’m not sure Tommy did.
First close game the Eagles have won all year. 0-6 coming into tonight in games decided by 7 pts or less
Turning it around bb!
Not a comeback win, went up big and just held on.
They did hurt their draft stock but I would outweigh beating 2 division opponents to end the year and hurting their playoffs status to like what 3 positions in the draft?
They are bunched up with a lot of teams right now. It might be more than 3 spots. Nevertheless, I’ll take a win. Especially with how this team drafts.
Eli Manning…the best argument for investing in your defense.
lmao
Birds tend to overvalue their own. Logan should test the market. We have to allocate resources for playmakers. Can’t draft QB and give him nothing to work with.
