2017 Eagles Draft Guide – 1st Round
Posted: April 27th, 2017 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 806 Comments »OVERVIEW
This is a deep, talented draft class. The group is strong in areas of need for the Eagles so things match up very well. That doesn’t guarantee the team will get who they want in each situation, but it helps them quite a bit. If you boiled this down simply, the theme would be “Help Carson and Find Cover Guys”. The Eagles went up aggressively last year to get their QB. Now they have to build around him.
The picks:
1 – 14
2 – 43
3 – 99
4 -118
4 – 139
5 – 155
6 – 194
7 – 230
The needs:
CB
RB
CB
DE
CB
WR
CB
S
CB
DT
CB
I think you might get the picture at this point. The Eagles need corners. I hope they choose 2 and it wouldn’t upset me for them to choose 3. The team has failed to develop good CBs in the last decade or so. They need stability at that point. Enough with trying out free agents from the rest of the league. The Eagles need corners who can play here for the next 5 years.
RB is obvious. Ryan Mathews will be cut when he’s healthy enough to pass a physical. Darren Sproles is in his final year. The Eagles just moved Byron Marshall to WR so this position is pretty wide open. I would actually like the team to spend a couple of picks on RBs, or to draft one and target one as a primary UDFA. They need a couple of bodies to add to the mix.
The Eagles have Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry and Chris Long at DE, but need some youth there. Also, you can’t have enough good pass rushers. We’d love Marcus Smith to keep getting better and become at least a good role player, but you can’t count on that. Same with Alex McCalister, last year’s 7th round pick. Both have potential, but have questions as well.
WR is set for 2017, but Alshon Jeffery is here on a 1-year deal. Jordan Matthews is in a contract year. Nelson Agholor and DGB are both question marks for the future. As Howie Roseman has pointed out, you want to draft WRs a year early. They don’t tend to play well as rookies. If you need someone for 2018, you draft that guy in 2017. Things could change with Jeffery and Matthews and you could see Agholor and DGB play much better. Again…you can’t count on these things.
Rodney McLeod and Malcolm Jenkins give the team a good FS/SS combo, but as we saw last year, there is a need for a good 3rd Safety. Jaylen Watkins had his best season, but was still erratic. It would be good to bring in competiton for him at the very least. The Eagles could add a S as early as the 1st round or wait to the bottom of the draft.
DT should be good with Tim Jernigan on board and Beau Allen returning in September. But both are projected to be free agents after that. Destiny Vaeao showed promise last year and it will be interesting to see if Aziz Shittu can take a big step forward. Still, this is an area where the Eagles would like to add a player.

Do visits and workouts matter? Heck yes. The Eagles met with Carson Wentz multiple times last year. They brought in Wendell Smallwood and Alex McCalister so this isn’t all about 1st round picks either. I won’t go through all the Chip Kelly picks, but the Eagles had plenty of those picks either come to Philly or get worked out by an Eagles coach on campus. This stuff definitely matters.
One key point…not every visit or workout gets leaked before the draft. Always keep that in mind.
SO WHAT HAPPENS AT PICK 14
The Eagles like to have 5 names they are targeting for their pick. If those 5 are gone, they try to move back. Here is my guess at the 5 names for tonight.
WR Corey Davis
DE Derek Barnett
DE Charles Harris
TE O.J. Howard
DT Jonathan Allen
Let me start with a few names not in there. Dalvin Cook is my favorite RB on tape from the 2016 season. There are several red flags with him. He had some fumbling issues at FSU. He had multiple shoulder surgeries. He had a dreadful Combine. Not bad, but dreadful. There are character concerns with him, with multiple incidents in high school and college. He has not interviewed well with all the teams he met. You love the game tape, but everything else scares you.
It is possible the Eagles have him in the mix at 14. I don’t think that is the case. It feels to me like all the talk about Cook and the Eagles recently is a ploy by the team to get someone to trade up for him. All it takes is one or two teams to have interest and you can have a potential trade scenario. The argument for Cook is that he did have a great season and was a legitimately dominant college player. If you are comfortable with his shoulders and think the character stuff can be managed, there is a case for the Eagles taking him.
Reuben Foster had a great season for Alabama, but has had a terrible offseason. I left him out of my 1st round mock draft, but others feel he could still go in the Top 10. I’m not as high on him as a player as others and the off-field stuff bugs me. He doesn’t make sense for the Eagles with Jordan Hicks and Nigel Bradham each coming off their best years. Bradham is in the final year of his deal, but I’d like for the team to see about an extension. He was better than expected last year.
John Ross is an explosive WR that the Eagles would love to have. But there are serious medical concerns with him. He’s had multiple knee surgeries and just had a shoulder procedure this offseason. If he had a clean bill of health, me might be the team’s primary target. I’m guessing for now they would have interest if he slides to the 2nd round.
I could be wrong on all 3 of these players. Just educated guesses on my part.
Back to the guys who I think are targets.
WR Corey Davis – 6-3, 209 – Western Michigan
Had a great career for WMU. In 2016 alone, he was 97-1500 with 19 TDs. Davis can play in the slot or outside. He can win in traffic or make guys miss in space. He has terrific hands and has the mentality that he will catch every pass thrown his way. You love to see WRs who fight for the ball and expect to win. Davis is great after the catch. He can turn short throws into big gains. He is fast, physical and elusive. He can break tackles or leave defenders diving for air. Davis is really good in the Red Zone. He doesn’t need to be wide open. Put the ball near him and he will go get it. He has great body control and can make tough catches while off balance.
There is a concern with the level of competition, but remember that the MAC conference produced guys named Randy Moss and Antonio Brown. Not too bad. Davis played well against big schools. He was not the least bit over-matched.
The only other real issue is that he had an ankle injury that kept him from working out for teams. He looks plenty fast on tape, but teams do love to know a specific number. Is he 4.45, 4.5o or 4.55? I think he’s got such a strong body of work that you focus on that and forget the lack of a workout. Davis would be a terrific addition for the Eagles.
The #NFLDraft is just two days away and today's #ProspectProfile is Western Michigan's WR Corey Davis. Will the Bills get him at No. 10? pic.twitter.com/5La70psvPK

DE Derek Barnett – 6-3, 259 – Tennessee
Broke Reggie White’s sack record at Tennessee. Not an explosive athlete, but a gifted pass rusher and darn good football player. Reminds me of Terrell Suggs when he was coming out of Arizona State. Suggs set the NCAA record for sacks, but then ran a terrible 40 and people wondered if he should go Top 10 or slide. The Ravens stayed on him and got a great player.
Barnett doesn’t wow you with athleticism, but he is a skilled DL. He knows how to use his hands and is very smooth with his shoulder dip. That helps him to get around OTs and to the QB. You have to love the fact he can close the deal. Getting pressure is good. Getting the QB down is even better.
He is a good run defender. While not a huge DE, Barnett is physical and tough. He is going to fight like a dog to hold the point of attack. One of the things I like most about Barnett is that he plays under control. Some pass rushers run around like the proverbial chicken with the head cut off. Barnett goes hard after the QB, but he has good awareness and is a smart player.
The argument against Barnett is that he’s neither a big DE nor a great athlete. His Combine workout was nothing special. That’s what you see on the tape as well…football player more than a pure athlete.
I think Barnett is good value in the middle of the 1st round. I think he would be an excellent addition to the Eagles DL. He can play on the right or left side and would fit well into Jim Schwartz’s scheme.
Derek Barnett is one of the Pass Rushers the Eagles could grab at 14 #NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/9NeoGfCrjt

DE Charles Harris – 6-3, 253 – Missouri
For some reason, many Eagles fans are not fans of Harris. I covered that here. Let’s focus on Harris the prospect. No matter how much you like him or not, he is a very talented rusher.
For my money, Harris is the most explosive pass rusher in the draft. I didn’t say he was the best. He is the quickest off the ball. He explodes off the snap and is incredibly disruptive. He doesn’t always finish plays, but Harris affects play after play. There is real value in that.
The downside with Harris is that he’s not an ideal run defender. His game is built on exploding off the ball and that means he can be out of control at times. I also think that is one reason he doesn’t make as many plays. It can be hard to finish when you are going 100 mph.
Harris demands a lot of attention from the offense because he is so quick off the ball and in the backfield so much. It is hard to quantify this impact, but watch and game and you’ll see it.
Harris is worth a mid=1st round pick and would be a good fit in the Eagles defense. They would have to work with him on setting the edge on run plays, but would love his burst off the ball and relentless motor. He would look right at home in a 4-point stance in the Wide-9 front.
#Mizzou's Charles Harris shows that a great get off is key to being a great pass rusher. Slow feet don't eat! pic.twitter.com/LMqL3Miyvw

TE O.J. Howard – 6-6, 251 – Alabama
I listed Howard low in this group because I don’t get the feeling he’s likely to be on the board at pick 14. If he makes it that far, the Eagles might like that. The team has a trio of good TEs in place for now, but Brent Celek is probably in his last season. Howard would be a pick for the future.
Howard is rare in that he can block and catch. He wasn’t utilized nearly enough at Bama or he would be a bigger star. The Crimson Tide didn’t have a great passing game and that limited his numbers (45-595-3 as a Senior). Howard only had 7 TD catches in his career.
Put on the tape and you see a big guy who can run, catch and block. He is a gifted athlete, even looking like a WR at times. Howard has outstanding RAC skills. He can make big plays. He had a great showing at the Senior Bowl, giving you a feel of what might have been if he had better QB play in college. He plucks the ball naturally, whether on a quick throw or a pass down the seam for a big gain.
The big question with Howard is value. He is the best TE in the draft. But those guys don’t always do a lot as rookies. Also, you can find good TEs all over the place. He should be a Top 10 pick, but could slide because people are willing to pass on a TE.
Howard and Zach Ertz would give Carson Wentz a heck of a 1-2 combo in the passing game. You could split either guy out wide or line them up in tight. You could bunch them or have them in motion. The coaches would have a ton of flexibility. I doubt Howard slides to the Eagles, but if he’s there he deserves serious consideration.
OJ Howard is not just a Move-TE. Bring him inline & he will do work. He pulled & led the way here. @PriscoCBS #NFLCombine #NFLDraft #Alabama pic.twitter.com/0uKqtJwhfd

DT Jonathan Allen – 6-3, 286 – Alabama
Allen is a Top 5 talent. He could go as high as 2nd overall. The issue with him is that he’s got arthritic shoulders. That could affect him in a year, 2 years or 10 years. Each medical staff will view this situation a bit differently.
Allen would come in to play DT and would give the Eagles a deadly duo up the middle. He had 22.5 sacks over the last 2 years, most coming up the middle. Schwartz loves DTs that can get up the field and create chaos, especially getting to the QB. That is Allen’s specialty.
If he slides to 14, that tells you teams are scared of his shoulders. That means picking him would be risky. I would lean toward taking that risk because he played so well at Bama. The shoulders weren’t an issue there.
Myles Garrett sounds good, but also wouldn't mind watching Jonathan Allen do this in a Browns uniform. https://t.co/iYDF4YsXOP

OPTIONS
i’m not anticipating any crazy moves. The Eagles could move up if they really wanted a player. There is talk of them liking Christian McCaffrey a lot. I’m sure they like CB Marshon Lattimore a lot. I hope they don’t move up. I want to keep all 8 picks.
If anything, I’d like to see the team move down 5 or so spots and add a 3rd round pick. This isn’t likely because it seems a lot of teams are interested in moving back.
It is possible the Eagles have some other player targeted. They could love CB Kevin King because of his length and speed. He is a big time athlete. They could love CB Adoree Jackson because he is such a big time playmaker.
PREDICTION
My ideal scenario is the Eagles moving back, adding a 3rd round pick and drafting CB Kevin King. He can cover. He will hit and tackle. He’s tall, has long arms and runs like the wind.
Best guess is the Eagles stay at 14 and pick WR Corey Davis. I think the team is going to err on the side of caution when it comes to finding weapons for Carson Wentz.

_
WR Corey Davis – YES
DE Derek Barnett – no
DE Charles Harris – hell no
TE O.J. Howard – I can deal
DT Jonathan Allen – maybe somebody else really wants him at 14 and we move back.
Yeah, I like Howard, although if he’s there, I imagine some teams would be looking to trade up for him.
I’m Forrest Lamp. People call me Forrest Lamp.
I also call you a guy who played great vs. Bama’s guys this year.
I love lamp.
I think Howard presents the most interesting discussion in terms how well stocked the Eagles are, or aren’t, at TE.
Ertz, while not anywhere close to Vinny Curry level stealing, is in a piss or get off of the pot year.
http://overthecap.com/position/tight-end/
Ertz is the 5th highest paid TE.
He’s also settled into being a 70-800-4 guy.
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/E/ErtzZa00.htm
That’s not anywhere good enough for the salary, so I’d be good with Howard.
http://overthecap.com/player/zach-ertz/112/
Didn’t realize he did some bonus conversion. Gives him through 2018 season’s end to prove his value.
Let me get this straight, Howard was underutilized at Alabama but is worth the 14th pick. Ertz was underutilized in Philly; therefore he is a bum.
Calling Ertz “underutilized” is intellectually quaint.
Howard to me looks like the next coming of Gronk. I like Ertz but I’d love to get an elite complete TE like that for Wentz.
T-Law:
Thanks very much for inviting all of us into your virtual bar booth.
Best place in town for the draft . . . and all else Birds-related.
Can’t imagine Eagles football without you and this community.
x2
Schefter adamant about Conley not going on the first round now.
D Gunn disagrees!
https://twitter.com/TheRealDGunnCSN/status/857675804372852737
I DON’T KNOW WHO TO BELIEVE!!!!
They Philly guy; duh.
Count that a second vote for first round.
If people are as convinced of his innocence as it sounds, hopefully Philly picks him.
EDIT: Apparently it’s not as easy as it looks to embed a tweet
Saw a reports that the Cowboys are interested in Conley, can’t it past them to use his red flags as an opportunity to get a top corner who probably WOULDNT fall the them otherwise.
Then again, knowing Cowboys history of being scumbags, Conley agent could be faking Cowboy interest to get teams like the Eagles thinking twice about passing on him.
..
Considering front offices are using media left and right to create smokescreens, can’t really trust anything
A side note to consider (especially for folks that gave me BS last year when I kept insisting that RGMe would be a Brown) on Cleveland and Turd-bite-ski at 1 overall.
Pure hunch with the player specifics, but I think they’re trying to bluff somebody into moving to one to take Mitch, so they can get Watson later.
Haslem has been obsessed with these stupid BS gimmick system QBs since the Browns “lost out” on RG3. He compelled them to draft BS gimmick Johnny Football, then made them sign RG3&out.
Watson totally fits that archetype.
Watson does not fit Hue Jackson’s big arm QB preference, however.
You’re using logic and football sense; Jimmy Haslem has neither.
Also true
Hue Jackson and big arm preference? Andy Dalton, Kessler…
Only pick that would make me throw my remote is Cook. I would hate Harris too but at least its a premium position. I’ll eventually talk myself into anyone else. McCaffrey and OJ Howard intrigue me the most because of where the NFL is going on offense and I think Pederson is smart enough to correctly use them.
I’m breaking stuff if they take Mike Williams with Corey Davis on the board. I’d also F bomb a lot over Cam Robinson.
Davis and Barnett would irk me, but I think they’re both likely to be DE2 type guys who give you 6ish sacks a season, so I’m not on bust mode with them.
I’m usually not rooting against any picks, but this year, Williams would piss me off, any RB – including McCaff too. I want Harris and would be super happy with that. Davis though is my top wish. If they trade back, things change a bit.
agree on Davis being on whom I’ve settled as my top “want” out of who will be there.
Now watch Arizona take him at 13.
I think the most fascinating, and instructive, thing for me to watch today is the calm, Zen-like manner with which Media Mike will be approaching the proceedings and the final result. Such equanimity, such patience and calm forbearance, it is not given, it is earned, through long practice. I will watch, and I will do my best to try and learn from the master…
I’ll be away from the computer watching the draft with friends, but here’s what you’ll miss in person.
Badmouthing the crap out of every team who takes a player I want to slide to the Eagles.
Double badmouthing every team with horrible QB situations who pass on the QBs from 1-13.
Immediately calling BUST on whoever the Giants, Cowboys, or Wasteam draft unless it was a guy I wanted the Eagles to take.
There will be an extra round of verom directed to teams drafting from 21-32 who take players I want to fall to 43.
I imagine this in my head if the Eagles make a pick you don’t like
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C-cpxoIUIAAmsNP.jpg
You can reverse the blood on that and you might have a winner. I can’t see cruller and Boston creme causing me any problems.
I highly doubt you have a Vick jersey but I could be wrong.
I have a Cunningham, Reggie White, 2 McNabbs, Ricky Watters, TO, and DeSean Jackson.
Correct on Vick my friend.
What player would the fans boo the most at 14?
I’m guessing Cam Robinson.
That would end the draft right there.
What if Goodell refused to read the card?
Not enough security in that room for him to do that.
Ha!
Chidobe Awuzie.
Unless they get the commissioner to read his name as: Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, Cornerback…guys…he’s a Cornerback.
I hadn’t considered anybody that mega-reach level at 14, but good GOD that would cause a riot of boos.
it would be the biggest panic-reach at a position of need since Marcus Smith II.
It’s not a reach if the player is worth it in the long run… 🙁
Unless you could have gotten that player AND another player by trading down.
yes it is.
It might get booed. Don’t think it would be a terrible pick. OT is a sneaky need for this team.
I’m wearing my tricorn(er) hat all weekend.
LARPing at the draft? Nice.
just jinxed everything by saying the draft matches what the Eagles need…
I’m down with Corey Davis. Ags, JMatt, DGB ain’t gonna get it down. Get that ___t taken care of.
Wouldn’t hate a Davis pick at all but with Jeffery and Smith on board WR is not as urgent a need. We won’t be relying on Ags no matter what.
At the beginning of this process I was totally on board with not trading down from #14 given the lack of success the Eagles have had after doing so. But after the injury to Jones and allegations against Conley, I’d be fine if they did. D3’s argument that the talent is stacked in rounds 2-3 makes a lot of sense.
Staying at 14, I’d be happy with either Barnett or Harris. The pash rushers appear to be continually pushed up in this process to the point where Jordan Willis may end up at the end of Round 1 and not available for the Birds’ second pick. The depth of CB talent in rounds 2 and 3 makes that a really attractive area to pursue.
But I think the player with the most upside is Corey Davis and it’s his lack of recent workouts and small school pedigree that makes it likely he’ll be there at #14. I think I’d be most excited if we land him, while still intrigued by McCaffrey who likely will go before #14.
I know we’re supposed to go BPA, but the real lack of need right now makes me less interested in Allen or Howard if they fall. It’s such a deep TE draft that Round 5 looks like a great place to address an upside TE that slips through the cracks and develops while Celek plays his final season.
“Staying at 14, I’d be happy with either Barnett or Harris.”
I’m having a hard time projecting either guy as better than a DE2; I need more than that from 14.
Give me OJ or give me picks.
If the pick doesn’t fit (our expectations for an elite player) you must acquit (us of the pick in exchange for fair compensation in the form of later picks).
Catchy, huh?
That’s the word from Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, who reports that the Browns’ decision makers had one last meeting this afternoon and solidified the decision to draft Garrett.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/04/27/report-browns-will-pick-myles-garrett-first-overall/
The 49ers have held discussions with three teams inside the top 10 and three teams outside the top 10 about a possible trade for the No. 2 overall pick, a league source told NBC Sports Bay Area on Thursday.
http://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2017/04/27/report-49ers-talking-with-six-teams-about-moving-back-in-nfl-draft/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Good to know they’re not total idiots. I think drafting Trubisky after passing on Wentz would get them fired.
So Carl Weathers is at the draft but Sly is nowhere to be seen.
Getting jacked for tonight! Xmas feel in the air….get me a defensive gift for under the tree
You want any one guy in particular at 14?
My emotional passionate side wants Foster so we can slide Hicks to WLB and pound offenses with a strong front 7, but the more logical side wants Allen or Lattimore to slide to us
I think you keep Hicks in the middle. He’s been mostly outstanding there. Let Foster play the hunt/kill role at WIL
He has been good at MLB, but Foster is a stone cold killer vs the run and good in coverage as well. Hicks has shown good speed, pursuit and finish as a pass rusher so I’d let him hunt.
My big question on Foster, is where he stacks up vs. CJ Mosley. Is he as good? Better? Worse?
And there was some X and O disagreement two posts ago on moving Hicks to WIL vs. playing Foster there. It was interesting for sure.
Lattimore needs to hire a F-ing yoga guru if we draft him because I’m not trying to hear anything about any bad hammys.
If we draft Lattimore his mornings should consist of Yoga and pool workouts until the season starts
I’m down with that. An ounce of prevention is worth any level of me verbally pounding him over not being cured.
Its a tough call, Allen has the shoulders, Latts the hammys and Foster the off-field issues….
I just want an elite punishing D again. I was reminded when we drafted McNabb, our D was very good and it really helped the team emerge and McNabb develop as they built the offense around him.
I’d try to do the same now. The D is not that far away, we need one good player at each level (DE, LB and CB) to be close. We need 2 CB, but I’m hoping that Mills or Robinson can develop into something.
Wentz needs a good RB and WR to grow with so the alternative universe pick for me at #14 if the D guys are gone is either Davis, McCaffery or Cook. I’d be fine if we went O and then D in the 2nd rd
I think I’m at the point where the only defender I like at 14 is Solomon Thomas falling to us at that spot. Watching him wear people out in Stanford’s bowl game was amazing. All of the other defenders either don’t fit or are more worth 24 than 14.
Not really familiar with Thomas, what are his strengths? I agree #14 is a weird spot for judging who to take or trade back…
Here’s a good writeup of him. I like his Donald like jump and leverage.
He won’t be there at 14 though, that’s just me scheming.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/solomon-thomas?id=2558018
LOL pretty sure Lattimore actually did hire a yoga guru
What’s up with the meteorologist name brother?
Was in school for that when i made the account. Still have hopes of getting into the field
I feel you, just asking cuz I’m fascinated by extraterrestrial meteorology Go figure, I hated Science when I was a kid
That’s not exactly “up my alley” but definitely cool stuff! Also maybe you had bad teachers. Good teachers are amazingly undervalued
That or environmental science
Love Allen’s game, but wouldn’t you be afraid of the injury that causes an elite DT prospect to fall to 14? Rumors of no cartilage in his shoulder, with some teams questioning if his career will last longer than 4-5 years? Im also not sure we could pay Jernigan if the backüp is earning 1st round money. Probably easier to extend jernigan if we have Destiny and some 5th round DT on a cheap rookie contract backing up Cox/Jernigan the next 4 years.
..
If the medical issues are legit, he could end up experiencing a similar draft fall like Sharrif FLoyd, who’s career is already over so teams were right to let him fall down to end of round 1
It is for sure a risk, but that is the nature of the draft. Calculated risk combined with the potential for a high return is the best one can do…
I assume they’ve fully checked out his physical issues and done their due diligence on him as a person and player.
One cannot be afraid to fail as a talent evaluator, safe picks might keep you in a job for longer, but home runs only happen by taking calculated risks imo
Yeah I guess it’s pretty simple, By now the work has been done, our medical team either cleared him or had him removed from our draft board
Prediction time:
Howie trades back to #20 and picks up #82 and #127, plus a 2018 4th rounder.
Drafts Adoree Jackson. Philly is happy.
Adoree kind of sucks for a first rounder though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b9l6OhQBkU
Shit happens on any given play.
Especially to shit players.
He tripped. Outside of that play he was eating Ross’ lunch
Ross went 8 – 154 – 1
70 of that was one play, where the DB just slipped. When you have a guy that fast and skilled he’s going to get loose at some point.
I like Jackson vs ODB than any other CB on our roster
How do think you Mills is going to look against Ross?
He didn’t “just slip”, he was shook by a far better player and fell down.
And just because Jackson is better than our current CBs, it doesn’t make him worth pick 20. I don’t think he’s better than either Colorado kid, Tankersly, or Tre White.
I think after lattimore and a health Jones none of these CBs are spectacular
That’s absolutely fair. And I don’t want to take a Sheldon Brown level player with a first round pick. I want an Eric Allen level player.
Just go Conley
Mike,
Your ignorance is really showing here. Adoree plyed really well that game. Outside of the play where he tripped he held Ross in check, which is not an easy thing to do. Ross did get yards against other DBs in that game. You are also ignoring the turnovers Jackson had in that game. Adoree has been considered a 1st for months now.
If you want to pick apart some part of his game go ahead. He isnt flawless. Just don’t point to a stat line for a game you clearly didn’t watch or pay attention to as your argument. Adoree outplay Ross in that match up. You would know that if you actually watched the players you are so against.
I watched him not cover much of anybody in the bowl game vs. Penn State either, which is really where I saw him live the most.
I’ll remain not a fan of his at 20. And I’ll still put him below both Colorado kids, Tankersly, and White.
I honestly don’t love him myself. I thought th game against UW was one of his best though. AJ seems like a slot only guy to me
I don’t know if his off coverage / zone coverage skills like Asante or Kyle Fuller is what we’re looking for. We play a decent amount of zone but is that what the Eagles want?
Ross beat Jackson bad on another potential long TD play , Browning missed him. Jackson was beat a few times. Browning was terrible.
I really dislike Jake Browning for some reason. I’ve casually watched him, but he just seems like a punk.
He’s essentially a slot only player anyway.
“WEAKNESSES Smallish for an outside cornerback. Might be limited to just work in the slot. Can be a little over-aggressive with pace of bail coverage when fearing speed. Has a very slight hitch in transition forward from his pedal. Allowed routes to leverage him too far out of the middle of the field when he had no safety help. Could have issues with big slots posting him up in space. Lack of size and run-support strength could make him an early target for teams who like to run out of 11 personnel (three wide receivers).”
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/adoree-jackson?id=2558065
I can’t do that limited of a guy at 20. You want him at 99, that’s fine. But I don’t even like him at 43.
Assante Samuel was the same height and weight. Not sure why this scouting report says a 4.42 corner with exceptional balls skills can only play the slot.
Asante broke in a half era ago where there were less tall dudes outside. And it looks like the writer doesn’t care for Jackson’s decisions on where to carry guys when covering them.
can’t be drafting slot corners early when you are desperate for outside corners, unless you think he can also fill enough Of a role as a special teams/offensive weapon for him to provide enough value to make sense
..
Shit I’d love to be so set at outside corner that we could afford the luxury of slot corners early in the draft but we aren’t there yet
Please watch the play and don’t listen to the dumbass commentator. He stumbled and had his ankles broken on that play by Ross juke, Watch it at :15. He was completely emasculated by Ross.
Jackson just isn’t good in press coverage. He’s a good off cover zone corner.
Lets act like everyone of these kids are perfect. Hardly any of the players drafted are finished products and wont be for a year or two. The guy is a talented prospect.
Im not saying he’s worth the 14 pick but too act like he would be a automatic failure is silly
I’m just clarifying the play. And what type of CB he is. I’m not saying you can’t like him.
Get me a better CB at 20 and you have a deal.
I’d also be happy just sitting at #14 and getting Corey Davis. Kid is the real deal.
AMEN to that brother. Davis is tantalizing with his route running.
Fun to watch.
I would really hate if Howie did it. Adoree Jackson would be a Nelson Agholor type of pick.
Agholor was rated as a first rounder however. I wanted Perriman more, but didn’t feel that Ags was a reach. Whoops x 2
The boldest part of that prediction is that Philly would be happy
If they draft Howard he would be eligible for an extension around the time Ertz contract expires and Ertz can either move on, or accept a Brent Celek type pay cut to finish his career here.
I don’t know if they would be thrilled with a rd 1 TE since I never seen Howie or his mentors draft one in the first, but it wouldn’t be a problem since he we would have him for 4-5 years on a rookie deal before having to pay him.
I posted Ertz’s deal below. He’s on a 2 year clock to produce at a higher level to justify that deal.
But if we’d clear out Jordan Matthews and add another outside WR later in the draft; I’d love to see this team in a lot of “12” rather than “11”, because I think it’ll benefit the O long term.
Where Greg Richards at around here? Had the upto date twiiter or news etc
His twitter is a must follow
How does Barnett stack up to the Terrell Suggs comparisons?
..
I know Harris comes from an Edge Terror factory but which of the Missouri alumni edge rushers of the past best compare to his game? I know enough to know that he is no Aldon Smith.
They’re quite laughable. Suggs was murdering people to the tune of 24 sacks as a senior. Barnett, was good.
Not my comparison, I can’t compare someone im not familiar with, just the comparison I heard most associated with him
Here’s a link:

That’s not nice.
Great info!
Why does it load with a preset “desi hotties” images search ??
I love this community, so I wanted to share the news my family received today.
My dad battled lung cancer last May; had surgery and was cleared medically. Remission! Sometime in January he experienced pain in his side- in early April he got it checked out.
Turns out the lung cancer has metastasized into his liver. The same cells broke off, found a new spot and began to grow. Currently it’s about the size of a tennis ball.
The cancer is inoperable. There’s a 3% survival rate at 5 years, but only 50% of people with this diagnosis make it 1 year. Obviously, we’re hoping for a miracle, but things don’t look good at this point.
If you pray, I’d appreciate your prayers for him and my mother; we aren’t sure what the road looks like going forward- maybe that’s a good thing. If you are into positive vibes, good thoughts, reverse voodoo dolls; we’ll take it.
On this evening, I didn’t want to ruin the festivities but I needed to get this out and this is one of the most comfortable places that I have to vent, discuss, learn, and interact with people.
Thanks for being a part of my life- I appreciate everyone here. Let’s have a great draft, and here’s to many, many Super Bowl victories in the upcoming years.
Fly Eagles Fly
Will keep you and your family as part of my prayers. Hope you all stay strong during tough times.
All the best. Reminder about whats really important.
Unfortunately I have been in your shoes before. Best of luck to your and your Fam
I pray for you and your parents and family. I lost my mother to cancer last year but she lived a very long and happy life.
I’m not a religious person but best wishes to you and your family.
Good Luck to the Sb2Bowl family !!
Sorry to hear that, my wife was just diagnosed with breast cancer a couple months ago..7 months after we got married..its been hard watching her go through it …i cant imagine the amount of pain you’ve had to endure..pray for the best for your father and wish you and your family nothing but positivity going forward
Same to you, my friend. Thank you for your kind words
Prayers and best wishes for you and your family
Best wishes to you and your family. I’m glad to hear you feel comfortable here and I’m sending you lots of good voodoo right now.

Here’s my totally uninformed stab in the dark.
Eagles trade back with the Denver Broncos for pick #20 in round 1 acquiring an extra 3rd rounder (37) and take OT Cam Robinson (which bores/infuriates most). Day 2 we get at least 2 CBs.
If Denver could get OT Cam Robinson at #20, why would they want to trade up? We would be drafting the OT Denver needs more?
We take Cam Robinson.
I get that but if Denver trades up wouldnt it likely be for an OL?
Your right, but they have other needs such as DE, TE
We are officially 1 hour and 6-12 commercials away from the first pick being announced.
really sad how much i was looking forward to tonight.
who wouldn’t love watching those NFL shop commercials!
1 hour away. . Id make it 50 choice on the commercials
NFL network or ESPN? Is there really a choice?
I DVR both.
NFL network if you want to watch Mike Mayock pretend to predict the picks in real-time before they happen (he cheats), ESPN if you want to watch a disney show.
Lol not really…NFL network all the way
OJ Howard or Corey D, 2 DBs, an LB, 2RBs and O linemen
Preferences:
1. Trade down
2. Conley
3. Davis
How does one know that he wants to trade down before knowing what’s available?
My Novacare sources are saying Davis won’t slip out of top 10. He’s viewed as a potential ODB type WR. Panthers have pretty much already phoned in their choice of CM, it’s up to the Chargers to try to take him first.
Also hearing there is some non-public information about a top prospect that will make him slide and ruin pretty much everyone’s mock drafts.
Keep these insights coming !
It’s going to be an agonizing 24 hours for me if we don’t take a CB in the 1st. Just watching cb after cb go off the board will be like chinese water torture
Better prepare. What scenarios are even possible at this point that would push a worthy CB down to 14?
1. I’m still more than fine with Conley
2. Trading back
Over/under on #of drafts for German by pick 14 ??
That dude drinks like a fish. I’d say 4.
The proverbial fish drinks like German Eagle
Maybe it’s because I don’t live there anymore, but does it annoy anyone else to hear national broadcast reduce the city to nothing more than cheesesteaks and Rocky?
Rocky isn’t even a real person, and would have easily lost to the people he beat in the movies if they weren’t movies.
Also, we get it, there are lots of good cheesesteak places in Philly. Geno’s and Pats are for tourists, apparently (even though I like Pats). The good ones are actually at Jim’s steaks and only locals know that.
Batteries, santa, championship drought, pretzels, pork roll, scrapple, am I missing any other cliches?
“The good ones are actually at Jim’s steaks and only locals know that.”
This is how you start a cheesesteak war.
I honestly always liked Pat’s, whiz w/o
It’s fun to picture what would happen if the Eagles traded out of round 1. I think there might be a riot at the art museum.
No comments for 21 minutes? Is my computer broken?
the consumption of alcohol has begun
True

So my beer reps McCaffrey, yours from Trouble Brewing seems to be supporting Mixon? Conley? Cooks?
Its the official beer of the 2017 draft
Oh, that reminds me, in honor of the soon to be newest Eagle with the Irish sounding name… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/063887505a7dfd9448531984d1eef49065bb2bc087a0bf7520c95df829649e7e.jpg
I’m envious. I can’t drink since I’m on call for work.
We’ll cover yours, too.
We’re all in the Super Secret Double VIP Iggles Blitz Draft Thread.
To be fair about half of Philadelphia is at the draft looking at NFL.com’s coverage! City is repping hard!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
That was some superb booing
Hmm I’m liking ESPN coverage right now.. No chris berman really helps.
I loved Berman as a kid, but his shtick really grew old and tiresome at least 15 years ago. I have mostly good feelings for the guy, but he just became increasingly annoying and tiresome with age.
All kiper all juiced up in his abscess… chris Berman get let go from espn z???
No 1st round grades on LBs? Not saying we need one, but you always want to keep options open. Down on Hassan Riddick? I thought most analysts/draft gurus have him projected as a middle to late 1st rounder.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C-dSduBUAAEKjti.jpg
anyway of watching this online? Im at college with no cable
nfl.com?
Their coverage is horrible so far. Waiting for another option
thank you
espn.com
Lets have a no ruining picks rule please. If i needed that I’d call Chris Berman
Pick is oficially in
1 down 13 more to go.
I can’t believe you waited this long to drink your first beer;-)
I wish 🙁
No real surprise here. Was hoping for a QB to go first to move back some players to our pick, but that was definitely more hoping and wishing than anything.
TRADE!
I find it funny when they go to Randy Moss for an interview, its either a HOF WR or a skinny little white dude.
Da Bears
Jesus, Bears.
Wow, that’s a haul for moving back one spot.
Wow, a third, fourth, and next years 3rd for one spot.
WHAAAAATTTT
Gotta be for MitchellTrubiskey
I thought so.
wow
QB early! Nice!
First curveball. And it’s a doozy.
ESPN is so dumb. If you’re giving up all that in Bears situation it has to be for a QB.
Yeah, let’s have a run on Qbs
everyone thought it was thomas
Bears aren’t in position to give up all that for not a QB.
Hey Jaguars, take Deshaun Watson next.
Yeah, Bears!
MOAR QBS!!! MOARRRR
My wife is impressed with Tribiski. Glad we have Wentz.
what website would you use to follow the draft?
nfl.com or espn.com
nfl.com
I’m on it but doesn’t tell me the trade. There’s so much info but not the basics.
theres a live feed.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/live
Yep. Lots of flashing lights, little content.
#2 for #3, a third, a fourth and a 2018 third
It was a 3 and a 4 this year and a 3 next year
You’re on it, baby!
Oh I’m here and ready to boo. BOO!!!
Bears giving up a haul to get Trubisky? LOL. Okay.
More overdrafted QBs please. Pushes top prospects down the board.
John Lynch is a lucky bastard. No experience running a team as a front office exec? No problem. Chicago to the rescue, to make you look like a genius!
No QB. He’ll be picking high again next year.
… which may be the best long-term play. Draft more players at other positions this year, and hope the QBs are better next year, and still be in good position to get one of the top ones.
Drafting Trubiskey wouldn’t have changed that.
:/
So, Solomon Thomas.
good pick
Is the draft the last time that players are happy to see Goodell?
So SF got all the extra picks and both teams got the guys they would have taken anyway?
Probably
have to imagine the Browns or some other team was trying to get to 2 and pressured the Bears to make that pick
Presumably the Bears thought SF had another offer from a team who also wanted Trubisky.
Oh, and SF pays a slightly smaller salary too.
That Chip is draft wizard, that’s what I always say.
John Lynch was like
https://m.popkey.co/bad79a/O966a.gif
The niners have drafted a de in the first round three years running
lets see if one of them can throw/catch/run with the football
I think Thomas is going to play DT
So they still run the 3-4
Hey German Eagle…you still awake?
Fournette
Well no McCaffery then
my Jags
nice fit.
I can’t really tell whether picks should make me happy or not. I’m counting on you all to tell me. Fournette good, a RB early? or no?
not if u like McCaffery
Good if RB or QB. Fournette not unexpected, though.
Sort of.
how many jerseys do they have to have made for all the scenarios?
It is a permutation problem. My wife just asked the same thing.
or are there stick on names
32 jerseys. Lots of name plates
Is there not someone ironing on numbers to a jersey moments before it’s presented?
Yes it is, nike has the machine in back.. For the first time I believe
Yes! Thank you chicago!! Hopefully a run on qbs starts soon
I’m still old school about not taking an RB too early
Concur.
Ill be surprised if TEN doesnt trade here
This is the slowest the draft has ever gone
feels like it, but we’re 40 minutes in and already on pick 5 so we’re ahead of schedule I think
They used to allow 15 minutes per 1st round pick
Not even close. The time limit on the first round used to be 15 minutes per pick. Most of the time, teams didn’t take that long and things moved along OKish. Then one year… the teams all conspired to take the full 15 minutes each before telling the league, even though the picks were known to the other teams much earlier. TV was showing video of players getting calls from the team who was picking them a full half hour before they were called on stage.
Goodell lowered the time limit the next year.
I’ll be amazed if the Titans don’t take one of the fan favorites here.
Using every second
Fournette at 4 or Zeke at 4? I’d still take Zeke over Fournette.
I’d take Zeke too…just so Dallas doesn’t have him.
No trade
Corey Davis!??? oh man
So much for that
Fuck
Well ok. Even Julio and OBJ wasn’t drafted that high.
Darn.
NUUUUU
🙁
Looks like we’re going defense.
Wow, that is early for Davis.
prob wouldnt have been there at 18. Im sure they tried like hell to trade down a few spots
wait weren’t we taking Davis?
Who are we gonna take?
No……. That sucks
I really wanted him at 14 but 5 is a bit high tbh
Media Mike hang in there man
Like Hernandez?
Ohhhh man…
Oooo ouch. Not going there. Far tooo sad of a life
Is it too soon to say that I’m kinda relieved that Davis is gone?
Davis is a guy I like but not one of the higher priority targets I had. I’ll take it.
Ike Taylor: the corners are real good at the next level.
Dude hasn’t watched our CBs play.
Hopefully we haven’t watched this year’s CBs play either.
Just heard Cleveland is trying to trade for Cousins
Check out @RapSheet’s Tweet: https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/857757746896093184?s=09
Crap please dont give skins a 1st roudn pick ahead of us.
Let Em pick a qb.
Best case scenario
3/5 top picks were offense. Surprising.
https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/857757746896093184
Ha, Wentz wasn’t a top 20 QB but Cousins is
I hope they don’t get the 12th pick for him.
seems like they are with this timing
I think this is going well for us.
except if skins get #12 for cousins.
That could be Reddick
But then they need a QB, right?
jets are always going defense
ESPN ruined the pick
Berman is gone dammit, get it together
Jamal Adams.
I’m cool with that.
Yeah
Good pick jets
This draft is falling well for the Eagles outside of Davis being taken….at #7 and Foster, Allen Latts, Howard, Barnett etc. all still available. Does Roseman move up to get his guy?
Douglas comes from the Newsome philosophy of patience. Doubt there’s a move up
True, but Roseman is in charge and has final say. Douglas set the board, but Roseman makes the calls today and we know he can be aggressive when he knows what he wants
Another WR off the board
no ruining picks plz.
You might not doing this?
How do you know?
He’s getting it off Twitter. Anyone can do it. Some people just like feeling special by spoiling it for others.
Is there a delay
Between when the pick is made and it’s announced on stage? Yes. And there are people who will leak that to Twitter in the meantime.
It was shefter who tweeted. Didn’t see any posts saying not to. Won’t do again
Yeah.
I know a guy at the Nova
I really think the Chargers go defense here.
Mike Williams is my guess for SD
Was hoping Adams would break into song “When you’re a Jet you’re a Jet all the way from your first cigarette to your last dying day”
Lets hypothetically say that Malik Hooker is there at 14? Would you guys be mad at getting our Earl Thomas?
cant be. i’m hoping lattimore there tho.
Same I would love Lattimore but Hooker is crazy good too.
Nope.
He’s #1 on my maybe he’ll fall board . Don’t know if he’ll be there.
Wonder who the Brandon Graham will be that we take instead?
Charles Harris.
he was the guy I was thinking of too, lol
I would run to the podium
Mike Williams going here?
If Williams and mcaffery go here do you trade up for lattimore?
The Christian McCaffery watch has just started.
Shhhhh!
Ok ok don’t yell at me.
You guys liking how this board is falling?
Yes and no. If Lattimore is falling this far then his medical is really bad.
I don’t want any scrub that falls all the way to 14.
Draft him and start him on Yoga and swimming
I don’t know if I can take him if he doesn’t like our miracle smoothies.
Or hes not as good as we all think
Yes
Well, I was until the Panthers pick.
How glad is everyone that we signed Alshon now?
Very much. Lots of good defensive player on the board
That was fast
there goes the only offensive piece I’m interested, time to go D
http://www.chatoosports.ml/p/javascript-required-adsbygoogle-window_23.html
Mayock/NFL NETWORK
Cmon panthers take mccafery
Mccafrey gone
Spoiler?
Announced as a WR 🙂
was there a link that said mayock a second ago. was taht a virus or something?
there he goes.
YES!!!!!!!
No CBs yet
Gotta say, I’m a bit disappointed in the volume of the boo’s at Goodell, I expected much louder from us
It was pretty loud when Goodell first appeared on stage, but the crowd has to pace themselves for the other NFCE teams.
Gotta save those boos when we draft OL at 14.
Dalvin Cook, announced by…Donovan McNabb, poetic
Just the thought of this wants to make me bring out the liquor.
The rumors were true.
Thomas Davis freudian slip
(Sniffle, sniffle). I’m alright guys. Just give me a minute.
I’m happy McCaffery is off the board. I’m not as high on him as others, but I still don’t like the value of RB as a top 15 pick unless you are a generational RB
Only reason I would have been fine with the pick is that he’s almost as much of a WR than a RB. He’s not a feature RB, probably. But if it pushes a CB or something to us, fine.
Okay, so offensive skill players getting scarce
I’m out on O unless we trade back
OJ Howard
fair
Still think they like Cook but how much?
Reuben here?
Lattimore still there I see :eyes:
http://www.strikeout.me/football/6455/2/nfl-network
another solid stream
Bringing race into it..
Meh. Its already apart of the conversation with Mac. Its not like he manufactured it.
I love that he mentioned it. It’s been the elephant in the room, and the only reason he wasn’t being compared with Lesean Mccoy.
Can we get Barnett or Harris off the board here please?
5 picks to go. Still lots of great players available, but only about 4 I’d be enamored with at #14
Can’t believe how accurate my guys at Novacare. So far everything is going as predicted. I’m super bummed we missed out on one of the best players in the draft, CM, but I knew it would happen.
appreciate the congrats
Who’s the player with the non public issues thats gonna disappear ?
Lattimore is still there
would love ross and reddick to go in these next few picks
and watson
would love an out of the blue pick right here
Come in, let’s see some QBs go before us
Please take Jonathan Allen or Derek Barnett. Heck you can even take Malik Hooker too.
I’d love to get Hooker. You might not get impact this year though.
YES YES YES ROSS
No tanks
i mean im glad hes gone
Ross
Really? ,, i don’t want him
… and because the Bengals just picked him, that means you don’t. Unless you’re a Cincinnati fan? 😉
Some very good d players on the board
LETS GO
Cool
Definitely Didn’t expect the WR rush
KC ON THE CLOCK
Must be a QB…?
>People thought the fastest player every measured wouldn’t go top 10
Ikr
injuries not good
Yes Andy getting a QB?
How many damn weapons does the ‘Red Rifle’ need? Sheesh.
KC taking Watson?
perfect, another qb gone (im assuming)
I might be missing something but why would KC want a QB?
Alex Smith is just average,
Andy do us a favor and take a QB or DE.
KC cant be taking Lattimore thats all that matters
Wow. Did not expect many of these picks.
everyone thought at least one of the 3 top WR would be there at 14.
we were all wrong and stoopid.
I thought Williams would be there, but no way Corey Davis was making it past top 10
Thought they could all be there. lol
Ross gone too? Wow. I liked him, but in a trade-down. Big injury risk.
they gave this years 3 and next years 1
QB
Great entertainment, this draft
Andy & Sean connection
Again, Howie looking prophetic with the Alshon signing.
good call
I don’t get what is so prophetic about seeking out starting WRs when you have arguably the worst starting group of WRs in the league.
They went after the only FA WR who wasn’t just some guy. Without Alshon, this team would be looking at NA and Torrey Smith as day 1 starters
He could have targeted CB in free agency, and be left with not much at WR in this draft, I think is the point.
Right, but the free agent class of CBs was slim pickings. Let’s also not forget Alshon is on a 1 year deal – no guarantees beyond this year.
I mean, yes, it was a good signing by Roseman. I just don’t see how it’s prophetic when CB/WR has been this team’s glaring weakness for awhile.
The impact FA class of WRs was also slim pickings.
Yes, it’s a one-year deal and not a slam-dunk long-term success. Though we could at least get a high comp pick if he leaves, I guess. But if you were counting on the draft to give you a #1 WR… we’d not be in a great situation right now.
Might be Mahomes
I know Zona liked him
Would you take Hooker at 14 if Lattimer, Allen and Howard go next 3 picks?
Yes.
edit: misread that
sure
Great question
Man, this draft is fun
yes
Tempting
foster is still on the board
… and likely will be after #14, as well.
Maybe this KC trade pushes another QB to be picked by Cleveland or Zona
If KC goes QB I think CLEV has to go QB
10 – Watson/Mahomes
11 – OJ howard
12 – Watson/Mahomes
13 – Reddick
Choice between Lattimore, Allen, Hooker, Foster, Barnett, Harris
Wow, I wouldn’t have seen that coming
I would argue that if the QBs are gone, the Cardinals might get Allen. They lost Campbell this offseason.
lattimore or hooker pls or allen 3rd.
trade up is kinda a go after QB thing. but could be a few choices.
Let’s be trade up next for Lattimore and grab Conley in round 2.
Can’t trade for him if we take him at 14.
saint really need a corner…
The medical concerns must be too real in a corner class too deep if he’s fallen this far. Best off staying where we are.
Mahomes
I like Mahomes, I think he could be the best of the draft.
The Texans are looking at their QB position and the draft just shaking their head.
Bruce Arians quietly turning red in the face somewhere in the world right now.
Hope so….the asshole.
Andy Reid smarter than EVERYONE
Other than CM getting picked early, I don’t think this could have gone any better for a PHI fan
It’s good they got “the second” in there. Andy would be pissed to have a 50 year old show up for OTAs.
he he he
Saints need a corner bad 🙁
And a pass rusher
howard, hooker, lattimore and allen. real good player is available at 14
Hooker, Howard, and Lattimore all still there. I think we’re gonna be happy.
Howie promised high fiving
Jon Allen
(He’s sliding for a reason)
..So are the others ? ha
WRs were reaches
Thats a reason. 😛
Just making trouble
Williams was a reach, not Davis, Ross, or CM
so is Lattimore
Yeah QBs, and WRs going too early.
Don’t get the Mahomes pick. Andy feeling Nostalgic for Favre, but I think he gets a player closer to Manziel. Dude just doesn’t play professional football.
I trust andy’s ability to evaluate and develope QBs
I trust Kevin Kolb.
I think Mahomes is too instinctual to reign in. The dude is sandlot
Mahomes makes some crazy throws. They also have one of the best deep threats in Tyreek Hill. Andy has kept that dink and dunk offense with Smith for so long and can’t get over the hump with it,
and Mahomes may need to sit for a year, and with Alex Smith that will probably happen.
Andy is smarter than everyone ..especially at QB
ill be most disappointed with howard at this point
Chiefs picking for Browns?
Ideally, the Saints take Derek Barnett. The Browns take Malik Hooker. The Cardinals take Jonathan Allen.
I’d be ecstatic if we got Hooker.
Same.
i’m freaking out over the 2 buckeyes.
Same but the Saints taking this long is making me antsy
browns take watson maybe
I think the Saints go DB.
Saints need a safety no?
They need a lot of things. I wouldn’t be surprised if they took Howard here. Shades of Jimmy Graham that can block?
Get freaking Lattimore.
Stay put guys, no trading up plz
and no trading back either
definitely won’t happen, QB’s getting taken, bunch of WR’s, likely guaranteed to have one of the great players they’ve been dreaming of at this point
There are so many quality players left that the value of trading down is going to get very hard to resist
There are elite guys left. No way you trade down from that tier
Hope Browns don’t trade 12 for Garapolo
I was really excited about possibly landing Corey Davis…but if Lattimore drops to us that would be a huge grab
go Hooker here plz.
or reddick
no
Is Howie seeing all the options and looking to move back a couple spots?
That may be getting too cute.
Not if NO goes DB
I hope
possible, but there is serious defensive talent sitting here
No just take the top tier player thats guaranteed to be there
That’s my thinking
darn.
Darn… but 21 games lost to hammy … Howard c’mon! !!
Sean Payton can go eat some cow turd.
damnit Saints
Lattimore only played in 16 games? Holy hell, that is scary.
High risk. Everyone said that about Ross but Lattimore has #risk
yeah, hamstring issues that make Miles Austin look like an iron man. going back to high school
well, expected him much earlier anyway
Cards need a DB too 🙁
It’s a deep class, I think teams are playing it pretty smart so far this round
We’re taking Barnett or Harris aren’t we?
Barnett is def possible, very good player. Harris IMO is not worth 14 so Roseman may trade back
allen unless he is a huge red flag… howard… if howard is there just take him.
Barnett is not going to produce like he did in college. I’d hate that pick at 14.
Damn. Never expected Lattimore to fall that far, but still was hopeful/greedy.
watson here I assume.
Houston, we have a problem
browns trade to texans
maybe watson
wtf
Please take a QB
browns cant help themselves. keep accumulating picks
Ugh was dreaming of a trade back with Houston
Yeah, think the juicy trade back options are now gone
For Qbs yes. Maybe someone moves up for a pass rusher.
There were rumors about the Dolphins wanting to trade up.
Yeah, but it’s rare you get the obscene overpays like you do for QBs.
I don’t need an obscene overpay. Fair value is fine.
Allen, Hooker, Howard. Who ya want?
Always take a hooker
Hooker may get Agholor’s head back on straight.
That’ll make for a happy ending
Hooker
Howard
Allen
in that order.
hooker then allen.
Howard
Hooker, and not only for the jokes.
Watson
Whoa ok now. Deshaun Watson has to be gone now.
wow Browns get another first round pick.
Trust the process
when I read that I hear the voice from the Rights to Ricky podcast intro
I think they now have two 1st round picks and three 2nd round picks next year?
i honestly think its going to work out for them
And they can play Osweiler this year 😉
Texans on the clock
Houston hoping they are pulling a wentz like trade away from the browns.
This is pretty awesome, Guaranteed to have a shot at one of the top 10 players in the draft, please don’t outsmart yourselves birds
McClane talking about trading down… Ugh
just speculating
We should
I’m just afraid we trade back for the wrong reasons, like we fell in love with a player in the 13-20 range and hey because that’s who we thought would be there, now that guy will be available in the 20’s, trade awaaay yeee ha
what are trade details
25 and 1st next year… so would’ve loved that at 14.
Browns own Texans 1&2 next year
jinx
(Texans #2 from earlier Osweiler trade)
Im confused thats more than KC
KC went up higher from farther back
the 2nd next year is from something else
nvm
and our 2.
We weren’t ahead of Az
Browns have the Texans first and second next year.
Bruce Arians just announced he is retiring when Carson Palmer does
They might reach for Deshone Kizer now.
ok so who do we want?
trade down to 20, im ok with that
so, Howard or Hooker. Allen might be just out of the question.
Think it’s going to be Allen for us.
Trade with Baltimore? Get our 3rd back
Getting a Hooker would lead to some fun times. Joe Douglas would love to have his Ed Reed.
would he get on the field this year tho?
Jenkins can play the slot 😛
Nickel 65% of the time, he would play a lot
A three safety nickel sounds good.
I don’t care. Take the best player.
Watkins got on the field plenty last year.
Yup we can play a bunch of nickel. He can go in as our FS and Jenkins can slide over to SS on passing downs. McLeod can be used near the line where he’s at his best.
God, what happens in Cleveland if Wentz and Watson make it to the pro bowl in the near future, actually, that’s definitely happening now
if the browns pass on a qb, he’ll be a HOF er
So this class is going to surpass the ’83 one a as the greatest ever?
just had to look it up. an Arizona need is safety. Hooker here.
Hope Arians is pissed, sad he is forced to pick a good player though
Probably sending footage of the draft to the league as we speak.
Kempski called Allen… damn oracle if he gets it
Kempski’s right about an absurd number of things. Dude really gets the league.
It’s because he’s obviously an Eagles fan.
I wished that helped my fantasy football team.
i think it helps to be an absurdist
Look at Arizona’s DL. Peters and Gunter and nkemdiche
Please not Allen.
Why?
only injury concerns. he is a beast. maybe too light if looking for a nose tackle type maybe.
Please take Allen.
Harris/Barnett? :/
Vikings are on the clock 🙂
got me nervous for a sec
3 QBs, 3 WRs, 2 RBs gone before our pick. Could not be better for a defense needy team like us
Allen
Gotta be Allen if he’s there, or trading down to a team that wants him.
howard if he is there, or Allen. but howard.
don’t get the howard love at all
Too many good picks left, dammit. Would almost prefer it thinned out a bit to make the decision for us lol
trade down would help
it would, but there’s too many good picks, everyone is feeling really comfortable with their draft spots right now. Everybody is getting a better player than they thought they would
Hooker would be sweet for us.
Has Tommy even written much about Hooker? Seems as if it’s been a forgone conclusion that he wouldn’t be there at #14.
There’s a search bar on the right 😉
Haha, I know, but I’m refreshing my draft tracker too frantically to do some searching.
My next beer will honor our more stout defense. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/1fa25b6a39be5a1953321f7ca4ccead57745d548e6a012fdc3584e911cb108ad.jpg
Frothy!
You think that is frothy? You should see the picture of the Hooker I almost posted.
I can only imagine. I’ll miss the Long, Cox, Hooker jokes- hopefully this works out better for us in the end
YES PERFECT
We’re on the clock boys and girls.
Booo the cardinals
Reddick
ESPN feed is dog shit. i have no idea whats going on.
http://www.strikeout.me/football/6455/2/nfl-network
nfl network
same complaint hours ago. Website blows.
Already told it’s Allen
yes, for reddick.
ever ever thought Hooker and Allen would both be there…N
No
Didn’t expect Hooker to be there and have to consider him.
I’d like Allen or Howard. Barnett would be okay. Trade down wouldn’t be terrible either.
Dont wanna be spoiled so Im not coming back here till i see it on the stream
This draft couldn’t have played out better on paper for us thus far
Lattimore falling to us would’ve been better.
Injuries
We’ve got a lot of good players to pick from.
Trade back
I have my bottle of whiskey next to me just in case.
i went to reddick’s high school!
holy crap
I don’t want Allen, but you have to take him here, right?
Right
Only concern is health. He’s a top 5 talent.
Hulz better work some damn voo doo on those shoulders
I’d trade one spot down for a first next year.
All day
I would too but you need someone willing to trade up.
problem is that everyone behind us is delighted to have a player they didn’t expect to be available, so it’s a buyers market
yep it was kind of a joke.
Nice to hear the cheers for him. .and his big kid smile
The longest 4 minutes this week,
Drum roll ……….
We could finish off the run on QBs
its barnett… fucker!
that’s not horrifying.
fucking barnett!!1 are you kidding…
Not disappointed
Literally the only player I didn’t want in this draft…dammn
Broke Reggie White’s sack record playing in the best conference in the country. Also a really good run defender. Position of need. Not my first choice but not a terrible pick.
92% of all his sacks came going around the outside shoulder of the tackle, he has no counter moves. Horrible burst and athleticism that simply won’t allow him to do the same thing to NFL caliber LTs.
That description also applied to Terrell Suggs coming out of college and he’s had a pretty damn good NFL career.
We’ll see what happens. But as I said, I don’t see him as a guy who’s a reach or a luxury pick in round 1. I would’ve taken Howard, Allen, or Hooker but he’s acceptable.
I guess we’re drafting hoping for exceptions to the rule now at 14th overall then…
Barnett had a worse 40 time (4.82 to 4.88), a worse vertical jump (31 to 33 inches), Suggs only did those two tests and a bench press.
Barnett also has T-rex arms coming in with shorter arms than 95% of all DEs that have been measured at the combine in the last 15 years.
The rest of his combine results are all well below average. Plus the tape just shows a guy that doesn’t have the elite first step that is typically required to be a top DE in the NFL.
Point is it’s not like he wasn’t a great college player. He was. Technique and production against elite competition count for a lot, and if anybody is likely to outperform his test results in the NFL, it’s a guy who’s already done so against high-level college competition. The Suggs comparison is not to say you draft for exceptions to the rule but that totally discounting actual production to focus on combine results is dumb. Mike Mamula tore up the combine. Suggs was a better player in college and a better player in the pros.
Please no
oh man…
Is your feed faster than mine …
hasn’t happened on my screen yet either
hm ok
I just took 3 shots
Ill join you for 1
barnett.
WOW
Thank goodness we didn’t pick allen.
they changed it at the last minute
`
LOL. How long you gonna keep this shit up?
Seriously. Proving to be a clown
I hate this team
suck it
I was prepared for dissapointment but holy shit this is depressing.
Barnett it is. I’m ok with good pass rush although I wanted them to take Foster or Allen
I was wondering who would be the Brandon Graham to Hooker’s Earl Thomas
MARCUS SMITH 2 2.0
Nah, that’s not a good comparison at all. Smith was an athlete making the transition to DE. Barnett is a highly polished defender with outstanding technique.
that didn’t have a good combine
If he’d had a good combine he would’ve been a top 5 pick based on his college production and tape. Combine matters but remember he’s being drafted to play football, which he did extremely well at a lower level, not compete in the underwear Olympics.
I think we unexpectedly had players available with a better mix of athleticism, production, and tape
But I’ll live with it
I don’t disagree with you – I would’ve taken Howard, Allen, or Hooker over him. But I don’t think he’s an outlandish selection a la Jon Harris. I disagree w/ the pick but don’t hate it.
Take away the results (sacks) and focus on the how he got those results and tell me what you saw on his tape that looks like it will translate to the NFL
Excellent balance, bend, use of hands. Relentless. Plays the run as well as the pass. Those are all important traits for a DE.
fuck me sideways
watch your mouth, choirboy
If you told me before the draft we took Barnett I wouldnt be too disappointed but seeing the board now eh…
Same
What if i told you we took a DB …
This franchise blows…
eh, not angry, but not excited either. I think Howard, Allen, and Hooker all have star potential. I would have preferred to trade down if Barnett was the guy. I just don’t see it with Barnett, but I hope I’m wrong.
wow. oh well, was not hoping him with howard there, i guess allen is too hurt,…
DE is a premium position, I’m happy
I guess Allen’s shoulders were just too iffy. I would take Barnett over Sam Bradford all day …
I have no faith in Joe Douglas changing the culture here with that pick. This is a commitment to mediocrity IMO. Hope I’m wrong, but this is the one guy i didn’t want.
Wonder how many Graham / Thomas vs Barnett / Hooker comparisons there will be…
4-5 years worth.
There is one about 16″ down.
Entirely depends on how their careers turn out no? If Barnett becomes a Pro Bowler and Hooker washes out, probably not many.
We needed DB ..
I would have hoped Jones or Conley would have been the choice without their recent issues.
are they booing the pick?
really dude, shut your hole
Not from what I can see/hear
Hmm wonder if they will move Curry to DT full time
Imagine they tried to move him and others teams laughed at them. This has several awful contracts which have hindered their ability to round out the rest of the roster.
Curry was already a dead man walking. He’s going to be cut for cap relief as soon as the season ends
Don’t love the pick. Don’t hate the pick.
Its not sexy, but he is a very good player
Good player at a position of need.
And he’s 20
Ah didnt realize he was that young. Nice.
if Barnett is the pick then it’s a huge ddisappointment that they couldn’t trade down
I don’t think there were a lot of players trading up for at this point.
Hooker, Howard, Allen???
I thought your guy at Novacare said it was Allen
Yea, they changed the pick at the last second. Look for it to be a contentious issue throughout the season…
you dont know squat
Stfu. Your telling me a team that set their draft board for months made a last second decision. Youre a clown
Stfu & stfd always win.
Puhlease
Can you please not do this….this board doesn’t need this BS.
sean snot,, you butt lick
he’s a joke
No his guys said Mccaffery
He said Allen when the Eagles were on the clock;-)
Ok, didnt realize that…either way he was an inacurate blowhard
Underwhelming and making a move for a coordinator I don’t see being here beyond 2 more years including next year.
I think I like him more if we drop Schwartz and the wide 9. I just see a guy with Barnett’s athleticism having similar troubles to Curry if he lines up wide. High effort, disruptive, but I have my doubts about him getting home.
That’s his move though, getting low and taking the arc wide. He’s just not real quick.
makes me want some corners to buy us a couple extra tenths of a second
Barnett can play Edge in any scheme
Honestly what do you think his ceiling is? Do you think he can be an elite edge rusher? If we take a pass rusher in the top 15 he needs to be a 10+ sack guy.
imo he’s a great piece on a stacked D-line. He can be a consistent menace (not sure he gets home that often). Pretty good complement to a flashy stud rusher.
I think he has a Brian Orakpo career. He’s got to work on his counters. I think he’ll be an 8 sack guy in underwhelming years and 10-12 in his better years. Never going to be a 20 sack a year guy but that’s an unreasonable expectation
If he is that good, it was a great pick. Strikes me more as a ‘solid not a difference maker’ type who is more of a 4-6 sack guy.
You think he’s going to be consistently out of the top 50 in sacks?
I feel exactly what this ginger guy feels. Wow we made a pick and that’s it.
Was this BPA? There was no BCBA?
As DaveH noted, we got the BDBA…
(Edited, wrong Dave)
I don’t get it?
Best Defensive Back Available?
No! Best Derek Barnett Available!
ehhh.. ok.
So Hooker went after. Begin the Graham and Thomas cycle again.
Oh damn hope not haha
but we dont need a S and need a DE
Jenkins is going to be 30. McLeod is just average in coverage. We didn’t need a DE more than a S.
Graham and Curry are 29 and Long is 32 and on a one year deal. DE was a need.
DEs last much longer in the league than S.
It’s not just about need now. But Hooker isn’t quite Thomas fortunately.
Chuckie ripped him. . Called him a huge reach
He’s always been a terrible personnel guy though.
MS2 better come to play in camp because he is going to be competing for a roster spot now.
And Vinny Curry better have the movers on speed dial. He is now trade bait.
Who is taking his awful contract though for what is essentially at best a situational pass rusher?
Eagles have to hope he rebounds a bit and is semi-effective next season.
He’d only be a $1m cap savings this year… if you can even find a team wanting to guarantee Curry $7 million this year. Next year on the other hand…
if they don’t need his cap space before then. No point in cutting him before draft, but he has a roster bonus sometime in July
I think MS2 is as good as gone. You’ve got Graham, Long, Curry, and Barnett all ahead of him.
Players with injury concerns, players with character + injury concerns and players at non-premium positions falling the draft.
I for one am shocked by this development. Shocked.
Boo the kid Ahhhhhh !! (Just for Fun of course)
I like this kid. He’s got moves even with his big ass
that was cool
Colts baaadly needed Hooker, man they got to be losing their minds
Well, at least you need to appreciate the building through the trenches mentality. This is a good time to focus on fundamentals.
Does the run on CBs begin now? Also sorry D3.
Eagles seem like they are trying to rebuild the early 00s but this team reminds me more of mid-90s Eagles under Rhodes – veteran-laden team that has talent but is flawed in several areas too
Big difference is Wentz and whether he can take another leap this season to lead them back to the playoffs
Gotta give Douglas benefit of doubt here.
Nope. This team has been afraid to get the high impact guy and stick to BPA despite need. They make decisions with a sense of urgency to win this year. This pick proves that these same issues remain. No one can honestly say Barnett was the BPA even if you liked him.
Agreed
I think you could
Could be BPA with no red flag
He is better than Hooker, Foster, Howard, and Harris? I don’t buy that. He screams “safe” pick to me. We need impact palyers Barnett just doesn’t seem to be a high impact guy. Solid and consistent sure, but that is redundant with our current DEs.
If Foster was off their board to to interview, medical, character (also I dont think he’s as good as many others)
Howard is a TE
Hooker probably is but DE>S and frankly I haven’t watched him a ton to have super strong opinions.
Allen doesn’t really fit the scheme and medicals.
Harris I would have had above him but within the margin of error.
I had Hooker in my top 5 prospects. Guy is special
Who was?
The DE with medical risk. Maybe theres a reason he is slipping, its doctors saying: is that supposed to be a shoulder?
The LB with concussion AND shoulder issues, character AND PED concerns. Yeah, that’ll work well.
The TE. Please.
I’d take Harris over Barnett all day every day
Also Hooker would have been my first choice there
Maybe, but theres a discussion there. Production vs. measurable. Not particularly decisive, more personal preference. With Hicks and Bradham, I can see why the Eagles wouldn’t be thrilled with the guy who doesn’t play the run very well.
Hooker has that hip thing too. Injuries are just a killer.
they picked a guy who is 20
There are people who honestly say the world is flat. That claim is meaningless.
That said, they literally said on ESPN he was the BPA just before the pick came in.
Barnett may or may not have been BPA but this wasn’t a reach or a “win now” pick. If they’d wanted immediate impact or a guy to fill a clear hole there were other players that would’ve been higher on the list.
Through 16 picks, only 2 CB chosen so far…good news for the Eagles in the 2nd rd to get one of the good CB hopefully
I hope the Skins trade their pick to the Browns for Brock
O.J Howard still there
NFL Network’s coverage of the Eagles pick was a disgrace. Never said anything about the Eagles when they were on the clock. Interviewed Fournette instead. Didn’t even go to the podium for the pick announcement. Just flashed it on the bottom of the screen. WTF?
Huh?
haha noticed that. I looked down and saw the pick was thinking wtf dont get to see the pick or the reaction from the crowd.
I couldn’t believe that, honestly. Why can’t they interview players in between picks and cut backlights to the podium live
Uh, don’t think you were watching NFL network.
What nfl.com is showing isn’t NFL network
New post up
http://igglesblitz.com/2017/04/derek-barnett-newest/
I hope Howard doesn’t go to the Giants.
got your wish
fuck.
I was crazy for wanting Adoree Jackson at #200, but okay, whatever….
