DE Derek Barnett is Your Newest Eagle

Posted: April 27th, 2017 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 400 Comments »

The pick is in and Derek Barnett is your newest Eagle.

Barnett is 6-3, 259 and a high productive pass rusher. If not already, you’ll soon be sick of hearing the stat that Barnett broke Reggie White’s sack record at Tennessee. Barnett had a great college career and is absolutely worthy of a mid-1st round pick. This isn’t a reach or crazy pick in any sense.

Why add a DE here?

If you want to build a title team, you need a QB and guys who can get to the QB. The Eagles added Carson Wentz last year and wanted to add a pass rusher this year. Yes, the Eagles do have Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry and Chris Long, but none of them are young. Barnett won’t turn 21 until June so the Eagles just got better and much younger up front.

The team did pass on some big names. Jonathan Allen is a Top 5 talent. He has arthritic shoulders and that has caused teams to pass on him to this point. The Eagles obviously felt it wasn’t smart to take a chance n him. That was purely a medical decision.

Malik Hooker has issues as a tackler and that makes him an awkward fit for the Wide-9. That look puts a lot of pressure on DBs to be good run defenders. That’s an area where Hooker can struggle.

Reuben Foster has shoulder and character issues. We’ve discussed Dalvin Cook to death.

Why not move back? It takes 2 to tango. My guess is that teams weren’t looking to move up so the Eagles stayed put and added a player they were very high on.

The Eagles are a better team than they were this morning.

    Crap Allen to WAS

They have been really good at just sticking to their boards and taking best player. However they do seem more willing to take risks on injured players so the pick makes sense.

Ugh we have to root against him now…

  4. 4 Mitchell said at 10:18 PM on April 27th, 2017:

The notion that Barnett has no rush moves is silly. I’m watching the Florida game now and in just over 3 minutes I have seen the speed rush to the outside, a bull rush and and outside/in move. Does he need more technique and polish? Sure but he’s only 20.

  5. 5 kajomo said at 10:22 PM on April 27th, 2017:

I don’t think people are worried about his technique and moves. It’s his limited athletic ability. The top rushers in this league are just more athletic than Barnett is. That isn’t likely to be improved

I don’t like this “lets stay safe” mentality. Hooker’s tackling issue isn’t that bad. Watkins had tackling issues too but he got better.

I love Barnett as well. He has a stiffness/ sometimes-awkwardness to him, but you see teams constantly running away from him and the only time they run at him is a reverse or play action to keep him honest. Fantastic hand use and strength. Can time the snap well sometimes. It almost feels like he is saving energy for crucial 3rd downs because he knows teams are running away from him and rolling the QB away etc: he does flash a surprising burst in big situations.
I don’t see these things going away at the next level.

That’s not what we are saying. We are praising his production against SEC schools, not comparing him to other SEC players

Nope. This is exactly the Jordan Matthews is the all time SEC receiving leader BS all over again.

  28. 28 Corry said at 10:32 PM on April 27th, 2017:

…so….you’re saying you aren’t a fan of the pick?

    Yes.

  30. 30 Mitchell said at 10:35 PM on April 27th, 2017:

  31. 31 Insomniac said at 10:36 PM on April 27th, 2017:

One of them wasn’t fed screen passes his entire college career. So your argument is as terrible as Sammie Coates’s hands.

  32. 32 Mitchell said at 10:42 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Barnett wasn’t getting fed screen passes though, so not sure the argument is that terrible.

  41. 41 Dave said at 10:25 PM on April 27th, 2017:

  44. 44 Steve Smegal said at 10:25 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Yes, because a cold and an injury to your legs would typically result in identical times

  45. 45 Mitchell said at 10:26 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Cold and flu are 2 very different things.

  46. 46 Steve Smegal said at 10:27 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Not as different as the flu and a hamstring injury when it comes to measure someone’s speed

Tommy killing me with the last paragraph here. Makes it sound like we settled.

Not sure that’s actually the case, just the phrasing in that paragraph made it seem Tommy isn’t super high on this pick.

  57. 57 Iskar36 said at 10:29 PM on April 27th, 2017:

I should point out, Tommy had Barnett mocked to the Eagles at scoutsnotebook, so I’m guessing he actually likes the pick enough, just the phrasing there didn’t reflect that well.

  66. 66 FairOaks said at 10:42 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Right, and right now we pretty much only have guys on the roster who sat on the bench in favor of McKelvin and Carroll.

  67. 67 FairOaks said at 10:32 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Worse at CB so far. Couple of draft picks could change that though

  68. 68 Jarock said at 10:30 PM on April 27th, 2017:

If the corners can cover for at least 2 seconds 🙂

  69. 69 xeynon said at 10:30 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Watching that highlight tape I’m struck by how low he gets and how he bends to prevent blockers from getting their hands on him. That’s an elite skill for a pass rusher to have.

Still not blown away by the pick but not upset by it either. He looks like a 1st round player to me.

  70. 70 Jernst said at 10:34 PM on April 27th, 2017:

His ability to bend is truly top notch…I”ll give him that. I just don’t see the explosion to beat NFL LTs in his first 3 steps. Being lined up out in the wide 9 is only a benefit if the DE has the speed to take advantage. If you’re plodding around the LT from 3 yards outside his shoulder you’re just giving the LT and thus the QB more time to keep you away from getting a sack.

Add in his midget T-Rex arms and I don’t see him translating to the NFL. Hope I’m wrong.

  71. 71 kajomo said at 10:35 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Tyron Smith is going to toy with him

  72. 72 Jarock said at 10:36 PM on April 27th, 2017:

BG is one of the few guys who seems to give Smith fits. Barnett reminds me of BG a lot.

  73. 73 Jernst said at 10:37 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Brandon Graham is significantly faster and quicker than Barnett. Significantly.

  74. 74 Insomniac said at 10:41 PM on April 27th, 2017:

    Throw in stronger too.

  75. 75 Jernst said at 10:42 PM on April 27th, 2017:

True. Problem is Graham is stronger than a lot of guys. He’s not faster and quicker than many DEs.

  78. 78 kajomo said at 10:42 PM on April 27th, 2017:

BG has a much better 1st step than Barnett. Both his 40 and 10 yard split were .10 seconds faster. That is a big deal.

  79. 79 D3FB said at 10:43 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Grahams had microfracture surgery since then. He definitely slowed down after that and it took him a couple years of having to learn to be a technician to overcome it.

  80. 80 kajomo said at 10:48 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Agreed. So they are comparable atheltes. I would also say that BG gets the most of his ability. Barnett should have a similar ceiling, which isn’t worth the 14th pick. He won’t be a total bust, but he isn’t what we needed. We needed impact at this pick.

I’m going to root for the guy. I hope he proves me wrong. I just don’t see it with this guy. We needed a twitchy or explosive edge rusher. Kind of how you didn’t want Mike Williams because of Alshon, Barnett is very similar to what we already have at DE

  81. 81 Mitchell said at 10:51 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Having the most pressures in the league isn’t impact?

  82. 82 kajomo said at 10:55 PM on April 27th, 2017:

He’s good. I love BG, but he’s not a top edge rusher in this league. A good player. I’m really disappointed because I wanted a guy with an elite ceiling. Barnett does not have that. I’m a firm believer that elite players win games. We needed to land one

  83. 83 Jarock said at 10:58 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Who did you like more at the spot? The only guy I felt definitely has elite upside still hasn’t been drafted, and that’s Foster. He’s got more red flags than you can shake a stick at though.

  84. 84 kajomo said at 11:07 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Harris, Foster, Hooker, Conley. I would have been ok with Humphrey even though so have some concerns with him

  85. 85 Jarock said at 11:15 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Hate Harris at 14. I think Miami jumped the gun a bit taking him at 22. Hooker I would have been ok with. Conley . . no way. Not with both his aversion to tackling and the rape accusation. Even if it’s false, it’s too big a risk. Humphrey looks like Nolan Carroll take two to me at this pt. Maybe he figures out how to play the ball . . . he’s young . . . .

I’m hoping the Eagles somehow manage to grab Chidobe Awuzie at this point.

  86. 86 D3FB said at 10:58 PM on April 27th, 2017:

We picked 14 not 5. Expecting an all-pro is weird.

  87. 87 Mitchell said at 10:59 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Exactly, the guys with production and elite measurements don’t last to pick 14.

  88. 88 kajomo said at 11:05 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Harris had that ceiling. Hooker and Howard have the ceiling. Humphrey has that ceiling.

  90. 90 D3FB said at 10:52 PM on April 27th, 2017:

He comps athletically to Bosa. He’s not Von Miller but you don’t have to be all planet athlete to be a very good DE.

Look I said two weeks ago he wouldn’t be my top choice but would be a guy I’d be totally fine with taking and would be easy to get on board with.

  91. 91 Insomniac said at 10:54 PM on April 27th, 2017:

So we have to hope that he turns into Ryan Kerrigan?

  92. 92 D3FB said at 11:10 PM on April 27th, 2017:

I’ve said Orakpo but yea Kerrigan works too. He’s going to have to be a guy who wins with a good first step, technique and dogged relentlessness.

Better 3 cone and shuttle than 12.5 sack Markus Golden

    And Dee Ford

Yes. It’s too short right now. He doesn’t gain enough ground.

Yea, he won’t get a finger on Dak. Watch his highlights he’s running around overmatched tackles that look like they’ve got their feet in cement. He don’t have the speed to do that to Tyron Smith.

  96. 96 Insomniac said at 10:38 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Smith is good, he dominates a lot of people. Let’s see in a year or two. And Barnett will set the edge better than anyone else we had last year, if Dak is throwing I’m ok with that. Barnett is 20 and strong, he will get stronger.

  104. 104 kajomo said at 10:43 PM on April 27th, 2017:

I want to yell this from the roof tops. I don’t give a shit about setting the edge right now. We have 3 guys already that can play the run. We don’t have a guy that can consistently get to the QB. That hasn’t changed.

  105. 105 xmbk said at 10:48 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Go ahead and yell, no one in Philly will notice right now. 😉

I think you’re wrong. And against the Cowboys, you should care about stopping the run. Barnett will pressure the hell out of the QB. It’s easy to overanalyze and write off college production. The guy is going to impact the D.

  106. 106 xeynon said at 10:39 PM on April 27th, 2017:

I watched the highlights and saw him beating guys from Alabama and Texas A&M regularly. Those are not schools with cement-footed fat guys playing tackle, they’re both places that churn out 1st round NFL linemen. Watching that tape I don’t see a guy who looks overmatched or plodding. Love the relentlessness and ferocity I see too – didn’t see him getting blocked out of the play or dogging it on run plays at all.

  107. 107 Jernst said at 10:41 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Sorry I wasn’t looking at the LTs jerseys I was looking at their still feet as he went around them. I just didn’t see him do anything in those videos that he’ll be able to do to Tyron Smith or Jason Peters.

  112. 112 ChoTime said at 11:06 PM on April 27th, 2017:

What I mean is, can he finish plays?

  113. 113 Jarock said at 11:11 PM on April 27th, 2017:

I realize people tend to look at the combine numbers and question, but look at the sack numbers he put up . . . in the SEC . . .

Clearly he can finish. No, he’s not the athlete that Myles Garrett or Solomon Thomas is, but he was more productive against tough competition. I’ll take that every day.

  114. 114 xmbk said at 11:19 PM on April 27th, 2017:

If anything, that was his strength in college. I’m a big fan of football players. This guy fits the bill. Some guys just know how to play the game.

  115. 115 ChoTime said at 11:24 PM on April 27th, 2017:

I know he was great in college, but people are faster in the pros.

I think he’ll be a good player for us. We really needed to take care of CB before the draft tbh.

  116. 116 xeynon said at 10:58 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Mamula tested as an elite athlete and was a mediocre (at best) NFL player.

Elite testing scores do not mean a guy will excel in the NFL, and mediocre ones don’t mean he won’t (the aforementioned Suggs).

That’s what they said about Graham.

I love the Buc’s offense, on paper anyway

Was hoping for one of the Qbs to be on the board when we were on the clock.

  120. 120 ChoTime said at 10:31 PM on April 27th, 2017:

The problem with the pass rush wasn’t that the DL wasn’t good enough, it was that the DBs couldn’t cover long enough to let give our excellent DL time enough to get to the QB. I don’t see this pick moving the dial. Maybe it will turn out to have been a great choice in a few years, but we just made a strength a little stronger, while our huge glaring weakness has yet to be addressed.

  121. 121 Jarock said at 10:34 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Agreed, but I didn’t think there was a corner worth the spot. Shame that Lattimore went a couple picks earlier.

  122. 122 Ark87 said at 10:35 PM on April 27th, 2017:

I’m ok with it, those Hammy’s scare me. Frankly I think we would have picked Barnett anyway

  123. 123 xmbk said at 10:36 PM on April 27th, 2017:

There are still corners available. And the DL had room to get better. Really strong rotation. OL and DL are both deep now, which is solid team building strategy.

“The problem with the pass rush wasn’t that the DL wasn’t good enough”

Yeah it was.. Did you see Connor Barwin (and his useless spin move) and Vinny Curry (useless, period) out there? Cox went through a slump for a while. Bennie Logan wasn’t great at all

  125. 125 Iskar36 said at 10:38 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Yea, CB is certainly a larger need than DE was, but there wasn’t a CB worth taking, and DE while less of a need, was still absolutely a need on the team.

  126. 126 Jarock said at 10:39 PM on April 27th, 2017:

    It’s called BPA . . . not biggest need . . . cough cough Marcus Smith :S

  127. 127 Iskar36 said at 10:42 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Fully agree. That was absolutely my point.

  128. 128 meteorologist said at 10:42 PM on April 27th, 2017:

    They definitely factored in need

  129. 129 Jarock said at 10:47 PM on April 27th, 2017:

You have to a some. Otherwise I think that OJ Howard was probably the true BPA, but unless they are going to devote themselves to running a two TE set the majority of the time, it’s an absolute waste of a pick.

There wasn’t an offensive player worth the pick and Barnett was right at the top of the players there. Especially if you factor in medical concerns with the Alabama guys.

  130. 130 Dan said at 11:03 AM on April 29th, 2017:

Also, improved line that gets to the QB quicker means improved secondary since in theory the QB has less time to go through progressions.

  131. 131 xmbk said at 10:51 PM on April 27th, 2017:

No dissing Barwin, true or not.

  132. 132 xeynon said at 10:48 PM on April 27th, 2017:

It’s a really deep draft at CB, much less so at DE. If they want to address both this is the order to do it in.

  133. 133 ChoTime said at 10:48 PM on April 27th, 2017:

    That’s…. very zen.

  134. 134 xeynon said at 10:50 PM on April 27th, 2017:

  154. 154 SteveH said at 10:43 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Welp just got back from the rehearsal dinner… Was Derek Barnett on anyone’s radar?? Seems like a good pick too, and makes sense considering how little impact Curry was able to make last year. Infusion of youth and talent at an important position.

Sounds like it was a pretty wild and unexpected first 10 picks, multiple quarterbacks and receivers? Seems like a draft that has defied expectations. John Ross and Corey Davis going so high is crazy!!

  155. 155 meteorologist said at 10:44 PM on April 27th, 2017:

Think he was Kempski’s pick in his first mock draft, so he has been on the radar for a while. Lot of people were hoping he was towards that back of that radar

Right. Per Wikipedia though, it isn’t automatic — the lawyers can ask the court for it to be vacated, but it can also be contested (and I think the DA has already said they would contest), so it is up to the court if the request would be granted. If not… his lawyers could still go through with the regular appeal I guess, which would then determine guilt.

I think this was the safest value BPA pick at 14. The other comparable DE, Allen has obvious medical concerns along with Foster (and Mayock’s declaration that he’d talked to a few teams today that told him of an updated negative on Foster’s shoulder). There are several CBs that are similar to each other that we’ll probably have access to several by pick 45. Our defensive line is gonna be BEASTLY.

I think Barnett is a solid pick at 14 considering how much younger he is than our other good DEs. Fly, Eagles, Fly!

Round 1, pick No. 14: Derek Barnett, Edge, Tennessee

    Eagles draft best-remaining edge player
We love the value of this pick, as although Barnett lacks the elite measurables of players like Myles Garrett and Haason Reddick before him, he’s been the most productive edge player in college football over the past three seasons. He’s posted double-digit sack seasons each year, and totaled 187 QB pressures. His 91.9 PFF overall grade in 2016 was second-best among all edge players in the country (to Garrett’s 92.1). He gives the Eagles a formidable long-term edge player opposite long-time PFF favorite Brandon Graham. — Josh Liskiewitz, @PFF_Josh

  341. 341 ICDogg said at 12:01 AM on April 28th, 2017:

  342. 342 Ray888 said at 1:12 AM on April 28th, 2017:

“Most productive” maybe key to understanding new draft philosophy. That plus fits Eagles’ scheme. Not a projection into what a player could become, but rather what has he done. Not a projection of how a player could adapt to fit the scheme but how did he produce in such a scheme. Less projection probably produces fewer whiffs; unfortunately maybe fewer Ballantine blasts.

I’m really underwhelmed with the Barnett pick. I’m having trouble seeing him be much better than a guy who rolls to 6 to 8 sacks a season average for the meat of his career. I don’t see any bust potential in the guy; he seems like plays hard enough. I just don’t get the vibe of a star / superstar I wanted to pull from this draft.

  349. 349 unhinged said at 12:15 AM on April 28th, 2017:

I agree with you, though I didn’t have my sights on any one player in particular. It’s hard to buy the BPA pitch with Hooker still on the board, and though we may not be bleeding for a safety, he has a much greater star potential than Barnett, imo.

  350. 350 Media Mike said at 12:16 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Hooker wasn’t necessarily a guy I was targeting, so I wasn’t too focused on him as he was dropping.

  351. 351 Jernst said at 12:43 AM on April 28th, 2017:

This is exactly how I felt. I was all aboard the Corey Davis train. Barnett is a decent pick with a high chance of being good and a really low chance of being special. I wanted us to swing for the fences and get a difference maker.

That being said, while I’m like warm on the Barnett pick I can kind of see how he was the best option given who was left. Would have loved for Davis, Ross or Mccaffrey to fall or for us to go with Howard, but obviously Allen has shoulder issues and Foster a bunch of issues and I didn’t like any of the remaining CBs there. So let’s hope he’s more Trent Cole in his prime than ND Kalu.

  352. 352 Insomniac said at 12:56 AM on April 28th, 2017:

As the lone conductor of the OJ Howard or trade down train, I hate the pick. I’ll still root for Barnett though.

  353. 353 jaws80 said at 12:58 AM on April 28th, 2017:

i think this is my issue as well. I love the production, just seems like a solid athlete who has an insane motor, and real violent hands (just waves them around in the face of the tackle, looks like a crazed man pass rushing – at least my cartoonish impression of him). Solid. Just solid. Went where he should have went, so not a reach but not an upside guy that fell that gives you a good feeling the night of the draft. Hard to see him lead the league in sacks, or be called the best pass rusher one day. Could see Howard pretty soon be called the best TE.

But this is also what we were told to expect from Joe. The Ravens are not known for making splashes in the draft, or picking hyped up players (like some combine warrior). The Ravens just wait for their turn and pick solid, hard hitting, productive players, and then move on to the next round.

Now that he is an Eagle, i am a huge Barnett fan. The better he is the better the team will be. And the real good part of it is that we have lots and lots of highlights of him to watch until preseason. Seems like a good guy too.

Oh, and I agree on Barnett.

It’s cool. We got Barnett instead

  358. 358 D3FB said at 12:15 AM on April 28th, 2017:

If in two years they’re both legit pro-bowlers and we’ve got solid corner play who cares.

  359. 359 truehaynes said at 12:16 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Considering we don’t have a single cb who would start on another team I care

  360. 360 BlindChow said at 12:21 AM on April 28th, 2017:

It would be far worse if he was in the NFC East.

  361. 361 truehaynes said at 12:14 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Would we have taken Reddick if still there?

  362. 362 Media Mike said at 12:15 AM on April 28th, 2017:

I think you need a creative DC to take advantage of Reddick; Schwartz doesn’t do creative. I’m sure they had Barnett ranked higher than Reddick.

But I think Reddick will put up some crazy production for AZ.

  363. 363 D3FB said at 12:16 AM on April 28th, 2017:

No. DE > Off Ball LB

  364. 364 Insomniac said at 12:56 AM on April 28th, 2017:

    No.

  365. 365 Anders said at 2:17 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Why would you draft a SAM lb when we have a cheap good option in Bradham?

  366. 366 kajomo said at 12:21 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Any interest in trading up for Forrest Lamp if he makes it past the first 5 picks or so? Plug him next to Seumalo and we have have our interior OL set for years.

  367. 367 D3FB said at 12:25 AM on April 28th, 2017:

CBs about to hit a cliff. Lamp is really good and I’m the resident OL whore but if they want a G they’ve got better options later in the draft relative to the roster.

  368. 368 Insomniac said at 1:01 AM on April 28th, 2017:

I would have to say no even though I also really like Forrest Lamp. We need two CBs back to back.

  369. 369 Mitchell said at 12:36 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Really hoping there isn’t a run on CB before the Eagles pick again. I’m only counting 5 worth the second round pick in King, Awuzie, Moreau, Tankersly and Wilson. Maybe trade a player to move up a couple spots in he second?

  371. 371 Mitchell said at 1:57 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Not sure hes worth THAT high in the second

  372. 372 Insomniac said at 1:07 AM on April 28th, 2017:

I don’t know if we have someone of that much value on our trade block to move up that far.

Jordan Matthews? There’s not many WR needy teams right now.
Jason Kelce? Very scheme specific and aging center.
Mychal Kendricks? Bad contract and probably is who he is now.
Vinny Curry? Bad contract and old.

  373. 373 RC5000 said at 1:47 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Moreau probably isn’t gonna be ready to contribute too.

  374. 374 Insomniac said at 1:52 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Moreau is supposedly going to be ready by training camp.

Recovery time will require 4-6 months, according to Garafolo.

That’s late July to late September. His torn pec happened a few weeks before Beau Allen’s and he’s a rookie. Highly likely he’s going to be too far behind.

  378. 378 AddictedToPhilly said at 1:02 AM on April 28th, 2017:

We got our first DB in the draft without even realizing it!

D for Derek, B for Barnett, of course

  379. 379 Meh said at 1:03 AM on April 28th, 2017:

I like this! I’m not thrilled with the pick, but I hope he can translate his skill over to the NFL. If he can be better than what BG now then I’d be happy.

  380. 380 AddictedToPhilly said at 1:07 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Same. The impressions I got of him from others were that he was a one trick pony, only has the “bend” move that pro tackles can easily deal with.

Of course, like many others, I base my opinions based on what other fans say rather than watching any real tape. Here’s hoping he can replicate his college sack totals in the pros

  381. 381 Dude said at 1:11 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the bend something most of the best pass rushers excel at?

  382. 382 Insomniac said at 1:18 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Most of them do but they combine that with good athleticism as well.

  383. 383 Dude said at 1:21 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Not trying to be pedantic here, but isn’t the bend indicative of good athleticism? Strength, body control, flexibility, balance.

  384. 384 Will Ft. Daft Punk said at 1:23 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Yes. Its literally “bending the edge ” around the that OT enroute to the QB

  385. 385 Insomniac said at 1:25 AM on April 28th, 2017:

It’s part of it. Before you can bend, pass rushers do their first step. Most of those elite guys like Von Miller, Khalil Mack, and Justin Houston are very explosive and strong.

Demarcus Ware was one of the best to bend the edge before Von Miller came into the league.

  386. 386 Meh said at 1:35 AM on April 28th, 2017:

I watched some highlights and he looks slow… I honestly liked Charles Harris better, he looks way quicker especially his first step.

  387. 387 Meh said at 1:02 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Hmm. Kevin King or Awuzie in the second then Sidney Jones or Alvin Kamara or Samaje Perine in the third plzzzz.

  388. 388 Jernst said at 1:13 AM on April 28th, 2017:

I doubt Kamara lasts till the third. And, I think people are being a little too hopeful with Jones’ Achilles tear. Achilles ruptures are devastating injuries to explosive athletes.

  389. 389 Meh said at 1:38 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Yeah they aren’t pretty injuries. Maybe it’ll be worth it to spend at least a 4th on him? He was the 1-2 best CB in this draft class. I’d take a flier.. to potentially get an elite corner prospect. Either way we need at least 2 CBs I wouldn’t mind Tabor even though he ran slow as cheese.

  390. 390 Jernst said at 7:07 AM on April 28th, 2017:

4th would be the highest I’d go and really I’d rather wait till the 5th, honestly. Think about it for a second and name one skill position player that you can recall coming back from a ruptured Achilles.

DeMeco came back but he came back much slower and his game was never built on explosion and speed like an elite CBs is.

Peters came back, but he falls in the same category as DeMeco, slower and plays a position where speed and explosion aren’t the make or break qualities.

I can’t think of many others period that have come back from Achilles tears and I can think of exactly zero skill position players that have.

If it was his ACL, sure I’d draft him in the second maybe even. But, an achilles rupture…There’s a greater than 50% chance he never fully recovers.

  391. 391 meteorologist said at 10:36 AM on April 28th, 2017:

Not anymore. He’s expected to make a full recovery. Now he is at higher risk for injuring the other one..

    😉

  393. 393 Insomniac said at 1:46 AM on April 28th, 2017:

    Division round up

    Eagles – Derek Barnett DE
    Redskins – Jonathan Allen DE/DT
    Giants – Evan Engram TE
    Cowgirls – Taco Charlton DE

A lot of DL drafted by the NFC East. Some people might call this stupid but I think Cam Robinson should be in discussion as our 2nd round pick if he’s there. He can start out at LG and then slide to RT after Peters retires.

  394. 394 laeagle said at 1:46 AM on April 28th, 2017:

    Giants gonna Eli Apple…

  395. 395 Insomniac said at 1:50 AM on April 28th, 2017:
