The Beatdown

Posted: November 5th, 2017 | Author: | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 240 Comments »

I did not see this coming.

The Eagles completely dominated the Broncos, beating them 51-23. This wasn’t fluke plays (long kick returns or pick-sixes type stuff), this was complete and total dominance. The Eagles completely controlled the line of scrimmage. Carson Wentz was barely touched. Brock Osweiler took a beating. The Eagles ran for 197 yards. Denver ran for 35.

Dominance.

I thought this was going to be a tough game and then got worried this morning when I saw Zach Ertz was inactive. Didn’t matter. The coaches had a brilliant gameplan and fed the ball to Brent Celek and Trey Burton. They combined to have 5 catches for 80 yards and a TD. Alshon Jeffery had his best game of the year, going 6-84-2.

I give Doug Pederson and the coaches a ton of credit for this game. They were aggressive all game long and that brought out the best in the players. The Eagles were the more physical team and they pushed Denver around for three hours. The skill players made big plays again and again.

Welcome to Philly, Jay Ajayi. He was the team’s leading rusher, 8-77-1. That included a 47-yard TD run late in the half. He had great blocking on that play, but showed his speed and turned that into a long TD. None of the other RBs turn that into a TD. This offense just got better.

The #1 defense was on the field today, but anyone watching this game would have thought it was the guys in the green helmets and not the visitors. The Eagles attacked Denver’s offense and shut down the run (19-35). Once Denver was in a passing situation, it was all over. Brock Osweiler didn’t have a lot of help from his teammates, but there were times when he made things worse. The pick he threw to Rodney McLeod was just awful. McLeod could have fair caught that ball.

The Eagles are now 8-1. That is the best record in the league and they look like the best team in the league.

This looks more and more like a special season.

Even being an optimist, thought it would take another year before Wentz turned into a football god.

His theme music needs to be The Immigrant Song.

  • daveH

    Wrecked their dumpster.

  • Someguy77

Broncos narrowly did win TOP today (30:06-29:54).

I guess that happens when you are getting scored on so quickly and so much.

    • xmbk

ToP is an effect, not a cause.

    • Masked Man

Whole 4th quarter was garbage time.
Wentz was mostly on the bench.

      • anon

        foles sucks

        • Stephen E.

Ended up with a better passer rating than Wentz!

  • CrackSammich

Kerrigan out and holding his shoulder. That team is so done.

  • CrackSammich

Josh Norman with a blatant horse collar on Jimmy Graham, and then gave him the people’s elbow while they were both on the ground. Graham slow to get up.

    • iceberg584

Gruden is losing control of that team.

  • RC5000

    Anyone heard anything on Jernigan?

  • RC5000

Chiefs screwed up downing punt at Dallas 1. Touchback.

    • A_T_G

That was terrible. Just let the guy standing a waiting catch it.

      • SteveH

Chiefs laying an egg so far. What a disappointment.

        • Dragon_Eagle

Totally unlike an AR team to play down to their opponent.

  • anon

Geoff and Wentz both look special, though Wentz gets all media attention. Browns FO should be fired

    • iceberg584

Well, in fairness, Goff was never in play for Cleveland.

  • RC5000

Chiefs corner Kenneth Acker looks really rough. Dallas should continue to attack him as much as they can.

  • unhinged

Congratulations to Jay Ajayi for scoring his first TD of the season in Eagle green. He currently has one more rushing TD for the season than his most recent team.

  • Guy Media

Absolutely amazing effort today. And we had a few guys get banged up who will be at 100% when we expose Dallas for being a complete bunch of frauds in two weeks.

On that note; KC is a bunch of misprioritized clowns for being down 7-3 to Dallas.

    • Dave

Offensive line was awesome today. Lane handled Miller the entire day.

Now if Alshon could just stop dropping the damn ball.

      • xeynon

How about a little love for Big V? He’s not Peters but he looks like a capable starting LT.

  • Guy Media

Good grief; KC’s CB just whiffed on a pick six ball by Dak that turned into a first down to Witten.

    • SteveH

Yeah that’s absolutely tilting. Honestly outside of Marcus Peters the KC corners are kind of shit. #25 and #21 are both pretty bad.

  • SteveH

How does Jerruh pay over a billion dollars for a stadium and fail to find an architect who will take angels of the sun into account during gamedays.

    • Spooonius

Angels of the Sun. A seriously underrated band. Their first album, Wings of Fire, is their best imho. Not sure what it has to do with Jerruh’s architect though.

  • SteveH

WR run for -5 yards… Kareem Hunt hasn’t been able to get it going, why give it to Hill there?

I’m glad we have the Dougster as our coach, I don’t miss Andy.

  • SteveH

Who the fuck is in at RT for the Chiefs? That was Winston justice bad, the fuck is going on out there.

  • Ankerstjernen

In other news, cowboys D-line is outright dominating the chiefs O-line right now. It is very annoying, considering how the chiefs played so well against us and other teams earlier in the season. Somehow they appear to have peaked too soon, and they are under 100 yards rushing in the last three. On the other hand, the Broncos absolutely dominated the Cowboys a handful of weeks ago, and look at them today. It reminds you that it is a long season, and things change along the way.

    • Guy Media

It’s a big bunch of bullshit. Dallas = bullshit lucky frauds.

    • nicolajNN

Chiefs peaking early is kinda interesting, they did the same two or three years ago, where they were the last remaining undefeated team, and then sorta fizzled out. Contrast that with Reid’s time here where his teams tended to play better as the season went along

      • bdbd20

I’m really starting to wonder if Reid pulls the trigger on Mahomes in the next few weeks. Offense looks very flat.

        • Guy Media

Hunt is playing fine, why go to another running back? 262 rushing attempts in college the last two years is nice, but Hunt is the better player.

  • SteveH

I’m done with the Chiefs. What is this garbage.

  • SteveH

3rd and 15, better call a 3 man rush with the softest possible zone behind it. I’m so glad I’m an Eagles fan right now, this bullshit would not happen.

    • Stephen E.

Reid misses JJ. JJ would have sent 6 guys.

Heck, even Schwartz makes sure he sends at least 4, and 3 of them are going to be DEs.

  • RC5000

    Where’s Kareem and Tyreek today?

  • Corry

I can’t wait for PFF to tell us that Brock Osweiler actually had a better game than Carson Wentz.

    • sonofdman

Well, Osweiler led his team to a td when training in the fourth quarter. Wentz didn’t even play in the fourth quarter and the Eagles needed Foles to secure the win.

    • 2004 Birds (SB game).

Dak is a great college QB

    • Guy Media

And a very lucky NFL one. He’s pure bullshit.

      • Stephen E.

We’ll see how he does against the Eagles this year. We picked on Romo, and the fact is he was a good QB. If Dak can hang with this Eagle defense, he’s legit. If not… yeah, they’ll have to use a high pick in the next year or two.

  • Ankerstjernen

So according to Tony Romo, Witten is the best blocking TE in the league, nobody in the league can high point it like Dez and Zeke is the most special runner to come out since he entered the league and Dak is the best second-year player after Marino because of his td/int ratio, which is second (which it is not, btw, it is third after Marino and Wilson per broadcast graphic). Also, Dallas pass rush is among the best in the league and Jason Garreth is one of the best coaches in the league and Dak is one of the best QBs in the league. And Tyron Wilson is amazing because he plays with a back problem. These are all things Romo have said so far. So… Ya. I really liked him as a color commentator so far, he has done a tremendous job. But him with the Cowboys is actually worse than Gruden with the Redskins. Oh, and he also gave himself credit, just before the half, for being able to ‘call it right down the middle’. Geez.

    • Jernst

Your point remains that Romo is a horrible homer but Daks TD to INT ratio is actually #1 overall not 3rd. Higher number is better. Marino and Wilson are actually behind him according to TV graphic.

      • Ankerstjernen

Ha, really? Okay. But whatever, I mean. Does anyone believe that Dak is the second best sophmore QB of all time? He is not even one of the best two QBs of his own draft class this year.

        • Guy Media

I believe he’s an overrated piece of shit who gets INTs dropped left and right, who should be in jail for DUI but squirmed out of charges.

          • Ankerstjernen

I couldn’t agree more. Half his throws in this game is to wiiide open receivers after 5 seconds of getting to his second read, all because of the way the woman-beater is running the ball.

          • Tumtum

Mike, I think the better our team does, the angrier you get.

          • Guy Media

It’s officially Dallas week; all hands on deck!

        • ChoTime

Probably not, but at some point, the production is real. “The other guys are getting paid, too,” as they say.

          • Guy Media

There are 31 teams full of “other guys” who are all unmitigated assholes and massively overrated by fan bases that exist only be to bent to Philadelphia’s will.

          • Ankerstjernen

Lets play the game of “if this dude was QB for Dallas, would their record be better or worse”. I am fairly confident I can come up with 15 names that would not make them worse. Can’t you?

          • ChoTime

Sure, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, John Elway… oh, you mean you can find 15 active QBs who are better than Dak? No, I’m not confident about that.

    • meteorologist

Most of those things are not outlandish…

      • Ankerstjernen

All of them together though is making the whole thing pretty unwatchable.

    • ACViking

      Dak on Dallas . . .

Just kills me because the Cowboys wanted ahead of Dak —
      1. Paxton Lynch
      2. Connor Cook

Really don’t like when Jerry Jones gets lucky then deludes himself — and lies to the rest of us — about how smart he and his staff are.
(A familiar problem among a certain class of wealthy men)

      • FairOaks

Would have been nice if Denver took Prescott instead of Lynch (or didn’t take Lynch at all).

      • Ankerstjernen

Before day 2 of the draft, Jones admitted that he was angry with himself for missing the trade-up for Lynch. Then, later, he told reporters that they got outbid for Cook and he was disappointed with that too. Dak was, after their own admission, their consolation price.

        What a fucking shitcake.

      • Bert’s Bells

He got lucky on Romo too. Pretty much lucked into everything he’s ever done.

        • Buge Halls

Hopefully Dak has the same forgettable career Romo had – full of chokes and few playoff wins!

    • Tumtum

What about when the Cowboys lost earlier in the year and Aikmen didn’t talk for like the last 2 minutes of the broadcast?

  • Jernst
  • Guy Media

YOU’RE FUCKING EMBARRASSING KANSAS CITY! FUCKING GO FUCK YOURSELVES!

    • ACViking

Ok . . . so no need to check the score.

      I so hate the Cowboys.

  • meteorologist

Dallas looks good. Gonna be a fun schedule between them and the Rams. Buckle up

    • Guy Media

They’re a bunch of pussies. The Eagles must win that game and shut up all Dallas fans while putting the division title on ice.

  • Tumtum

    Have we peaked too soon?

    I can’t help myself! Sorry!

    • daveH

Nope, wentz was only 15/27 for 199 .. that won’t wow anyone

      • sonofdman

That’s it? That guy stinks. 😉

        • daveH

He hasn’t even started to get good yet

      • Tumtum

        • daveH

4 TDs in 15 completions is pretty sick. . But his completion rate is wierdly in the 50% rate

          • Stephen E.

AJ had some drops today, didn’t help.

Then he went and scored, so…

  • Someguy77

Elliott annoys me but he is the difference between Dallas being a legit threat and them being just another so-so wildcard team.

They have leaned on him even harder this year so far (I guessing figuring he will get suspended for at least a portion of the season) and he is averaging a ridiculous 376 season carry pace right now. This game isn’t even over yet either.

t-21st in NFL history and there hasn’t been a back with that kind of workload since Murray in 2014 (392) and he hasn’t been nearly the same since.

  • Someguy77

Only weak spot today was on special teams. Barner is a real downgrade from Sproles on punt returns and we’ll see if the long return today continues.

    • Ankerstjernen

I was thinking the same thing. Barner doesn’t seem to be explosive for that role. On most returns he takes a slow, deliberate step back while he looks at the blocking and then seem to take a lot of time to get up to speed. Very different from watching Sproles who would catch the ball the then be running at top speed a split second later. I think we need to try someone else there. Agholor did this in college, no?

      • A_T_G

He did, but no thank you.

That is a dangerous job. I’m happy with the guy that is sure handed, and isn’t important to the offense, doing it.

        • Ankerstjernen

Right. But we all remember how big plays on special teams alone won this team two or three games a year during Chips tenure. Most games are decided within one score. In all of these, special teams can make the difference. We should have a player there, who is a threat.

          • A_T_G

Oh, Barner has homerun potential. I think compared to Sproles he might actually be more likely to take it to the house. I think he will get you more 5 yard returns when Sproles would get 10-20 on them, but Barner has a chance to turn one of them into a TD.

    • daveH

I thought his stats had been really good. .and never have to worry about him getting injured

    • FairOaks

He’s actually been pretty good on punt returns, but Denver covered him well.

  • Guy Media

    Fuck you Reid.

  • scratcherk

who else is rooting for redskins

    • Guy Media

      I am not.

    • A Roy

We got a two-fer. Seattle is now 2 games back in the chase for home field and the Washington club will get a worse draft pick.

  • Dragon_Eagle

Washington on the door of a serious upset. 1st and goal at the 1, down by 4 points. 1:02 to go.

    • Fufina

hope they don’t give them the TD here. Would rather have it 1st and inches and be able to burn some more time.

      • Dragon_Eagle

Gonna leave Russell Wilson 59 seconds, but no timeouts, down 3. Fun finish coming.

  • scratcherk

who challenged this? redskins should want to be on the one.

    • Dragon_Eagle

No one. Under 2 minutes. Official review I think.

  • meteorologist

  • scratcherk

this is exactly why not to go for two

    • FairOaks

Of course, going for the extra point with that kicker was not exactly the sure thing it normally is…

  • SteveH

Thank god we finally get to play the Cowboys. You can’t trust these other scrub teams to take care of business. Just sickening watching them fail to stop the run over and over.

    • A_T_G

And unfortunately we will be subjected to one more week of “one of these two teams will take the NFCE” like they are on equal footing.

      • FairOaks

If they beat us twice, they’ll be ahead. We need to win one of those two games to fully seal it (provided Dallas keeps winning otherwise).

        • A_T_G

True, but that is a big if. If things were reversed they would be talking about us as the one long shot with a chance to bring down Goliath. Instead, they talk like it is a coin flip.

          • FairOaks

Yeah. It’s just that the Cowboys had a damn good run last year where they reeled off a lot of wins in a row, and if their running game is back to a similar level, they could win a lot of games. Definitely a long shot still, especially with the courts as a major factor.

    • Guy Media

Eagles need to handle business in that game or face massive public recriminations.

  • A_T_G

    Yeah, Washington wins! (Yuck)

  • Someguy77

Dumbest Eagles’ fan sentiment right now:

Wants the Eagles to play the Cowboys with Elliott in two weeks so we can say we beat them at their best.

Never remotely understood this sentiment from fans. I would rather see the Cowboys forcef to throw the ball early and often (with no Byrant too), get blow out, and watch Jerry Jones look like he will blow a gasket & have steam shooting out his ears.

    • daveH

Count me in the dumb sentiment then .. since everything that happens is far beyond my control so whatever i think, say or type has no bearings.. id like to beat them down at their best and shut Troy up and leave him no room for excuses

  • xeynon

I’m actually kind of happy that Dallas won today. I want the Cowboys fans nice and chesty before we go in there and stomp them in two weeks so we can rub it in their faces.

    • Guy Media

Complete gut check game for us.

    • daveH

Yes if liked to knows if we can beat them with our team & coaching .. i worry, but want to know

  • Tumtum

Who was telling me last week that Washington was buried? They are right in the thick of it.

    • Guy Media

They’re buried in the division because they’re down 2 head to games to us.

      • Dragon_Eagle

But that win over Seattle improves their WC chances considerably. Big win for them.

        • Dave

They have to beat the Cowboys to have shot at the WC.

      • Tumtum

Sure they are down in the division. Might still be down in wildcard. By no means out of it.

    • D3FB

Ehhhhh. They aren’t dead but I mean they aren’t likely to finish better than the Cowboys, the NFC West runner up, and the NFC South could have two wild card contending teams.

      • Tumtum

Here is to Cowboys crumbling when Elliot finally servers his suspension.

  • Someguy77

Eagles started the season at 50:1 and in some books a higher (found one that had them at 65:1) to win the Super Bowl this year.

Most Vegas sports books had them down to 5:1 before today’s game and only trailing the Pats (4:1).

    • P_P_K

I regularly bet on football and saw those odds. I was going to throw $100 down on the Eagles. “Nah,” I thought, “why waste the hundred bucks?”

  • Someguy77

    Eagles Like Big D:

Eagles are 7-7 vs Cowboys this decade but are 5-2 in Dallas (Just 19-35 overall in Dallas though).

Doesn’t have much relevance/meaning but surprised me nevertheless.

  • A_T_G

Looking at the standings, the Rams overtook us for point differential, +108 to +104. Thanks, Giants, pressures off. The worst differential is the 3-6 Colts (-98), worse than the Browns (-83) or 49ers (-96). Giants are -78

    • Dave

I haven’t watched the Rams yet this year, but it seems every highlight of Goff shows him throwing from an extremely clean pocket.

  • Guy Media

Rodney Harrison being banished from TV needs to happen soon.

    • Dave

For 2 guys that had piss-poor reputations as players, I’m baffled Harrison and Randy Moss are employed as analysts.

      • Someguy77

Moss can be funny and entertaining at least. Harrison doesn’t do much for me in any capacity.

  • Someguy77

For a guy who only got 8 carries today and supposedly was a problem in the Dolphins’ locker room at times this offseason & last year early on, you wouldn’t have known it when Derrick Gunn talked to Ajayi after the game briefly.

    • A_T_G

Well, the guy just got run out of town for being a jerk. We probably get a few weeks honeymoon before any problems are a risk. Hopefully, his stay here matches McCoy’s in BUF.

  • Someguy77

Now that the Eagles are 8-1 and NFC front runners, how does Spadaro manage to out homer the new bandwagon homers?

    Maybe these kind of predictions:
    – Eagles will win every game the rest of the year including the playoffs by at least 7+ points
    – Wentz will be the NFL MVP, Super Bowl MVP, and Pro Bowl MVP!
    – Starting DL in the Pro Bowl for the NFC will be all Eagles’ players
    – First of multiple rings for Doug Pederson in his inevitable Canton-bound career

    Any other suggestions for Spadaro?

    • ChoTime

Spadaro’s job being unreasonably optimistic is only a bit harder than the fans who are still looking for reasons to feel the team is being disrespected! #airyards

    • poobster

my prediction is that no Eagles will make the Pro Bowl

  • Someguy77

Defilippo is almost certainly gone. Reich will get interviews but I’m not sure he’s going to blow anyone away. Schwartz will get interviews but again defensive retread HC isn’t the most in demand thing. Undlin might get a DC job.

Best case scenario would be Reich getting a head man job and getting to keep Flip as OC and making Press Taylor QB coach.

      • A_T_G

Hoping a deep playoff run and impatient owners fill a lot of spots before our guys are available.

    Fun Wentz stats (per ESPN):

    – 1 of 3 Eagles’ QBs with multiple TD passes in 5 straight games since 1966 (others are Jaworski and McNabb)
    – First Eagles’ QB with 23+ TD passes in his first 9 games (next best was Norm Van Brocklin in 1960 with 20 TD passes)

Man, that “Hall of Famer” tweet just makes me appreciate how good Marino was. He did that at a time when it was a totally different game. Someday, his records will probably fall (because they keep making it easier for the passing game), but I have hard time believing that the record breaker will actually be better than Marino.

  • Anders

I be honest, Im taking a big L on my Clement takes from pre season.

I honestly could not see why Clement deserved to be on this team consider how not special he looked and as he offered nothing outside of size, I couldnt see why we kept him.

    • Insomniac

I’ll share the L with you.

      My L’s so far

      Ertz
      Mills
      Clement
      Ags
      Kelce
      Kendricks

      • or____

        P Rob?

        • Insomniac

Adding salt to the wound :/

          • or____

Curry regression? Or was that just Media?

          • Insomniac

Don’t think I was as down on Curry like Media Mike. I still think Curry is gone unless he restructures.

          • or____

Fair enough. But while Mike was undoubtedly the champion of that, he wasn’t alone.

      • kajomo

Ummm Vaitai is missing form your list

        • Insomniac

Umm no Vaitai is still not good.

          • A_T_G
          • Insomniac

Still not dissuading me from getting an OT that’s better than he is.

          • A_T_G

Sure, but you could literally say that about any player, on any team…ever.

          • Insomniac

No that’s just wrong. GJ Kinne has no superior.

          • kajomo

I think it’s blind hatred at this point. He has played well.

You are going to be very disappointed this offseason when it becomes apparent he is a longer term starter

          • Insomniac

Ha I’ve heard that one before with Rowe and Matthews. I’m going to plant my flag and die with it.

          • kajomo

I hated Matthews as well. His inconsistencies drove me nuts and his try hard act became really annoying.

    • Howie Littlefinger

Way to own up. The cool thing is that he still doesn’t look special in terms of tangibles. The guy just produces

    • ColorSgt

I know I argued here that I didn’t think there was a spot for him on this team. Same with Gibson, not that he has played, but he did make the roster.

    • A_T_G

Luckily, it is a big L. A lot of us need to share it.

    • Corry

I’m just here to pat myself on the back for the Clement love that started in preseason.

This season is so fun! And the build up for the Dallas Game will be crazy. My only complaint so far: Where were the “We want Dallas” chant in the linc my brothers? And btw random european question, I know we are dealing with a Team Sports but the “Jason Peters” Chant was so cool that I’m a bit curious about why it doesn’t happen more often I would have loved hearig “Ajayi” or “Jeffery” and of course “Carson Wentz” echoing and fading in the Philadelphia Sky. Fly Eagles Fly.

    • JC

      That would so cool!

      • Frencheaglesfan

Or the whole stadium screaming “choo choo”!

    • D3FB

Ticket prices are higher than soccer games and there is less of an established supporter group. That’s why new chants don’t really happen.

  • JC

I wonder what Mr. Lurie’s is thinking when he’s laying in bed and can’t sleep?

    • Ryan Rambo

      Just counts his money.

      • JC

I don’t think so. He seems like a passionate man…

        • Ryan Rambo

He can count his money passionately.

    • Guy Media

Considering he’s on wife #2……………he’ll probably just find #3 when he gets bored again.

      • JC

So u think he’s thinking about another woman?? Lots of men r on wife #2 after they messed up the first marriage.

        • Guy Media

No, I have empirical evidence about at least one thing we know he did when bored.

    • A_T_G

      Parade routes.

      • JC

        Exactly!

  • Guy Media

I had this team at 9 or 10 wins going into the season, but couldn’t guarantee a division vs. a few other teams that were going to be in that range……….. but here we are at 8-1 and in the driver’s seat for home field. So I’d like to get that done because of who the other teams are in the playoff mix.

The other division leaders are New Orleans, Minnesota, and the Rams. It would be absolutely putrid to fall behind any of those teams. Especially because none of them were judged to be playoff quality by me going into the season.

Dallas is a fraud who we had better bury on the 19th!!!!!!

Seattle, via our history vs. them, scares me. But they just lost to Washington. Frauds.

So I can’t believe I’m sitting here after week 9 expecting the #1 seed in the NFC because all of the other teams involved are BS.

    • kajomo

NO, Minn, Sea, and LAR all pretty much play each other here to end the season. If we can at least split with Dallas and split the West Coast games than the rest should beat each other up enough to give us the #1 seed

  • Ryan Rambo

“They knew everything that we were going to be doing [on defense],” Harris said. “They had a great game plan. Carson Wentz is a great quarterback. It seemed like the Chiefs’ offense. They just executed a lot better. We played a great offense. It’s the best offense we’ve seen.”

  • Eagles4life

    Carson Balboa!

    • JC

They will make a statue of him and immortalize like a mythical hero!

  • GreenBleedin

Tommy, talk me off the ledge. Those F’ing Cowboys beat the Chiefs, thanks Andy, and they control their own destiny now. If they beat the Eagles twice, they are in first assuming the other games come out tied.

I want to believe we are as good as we look and will kick Cowboy butt in two weeks but after decades of disappointment, I’m nervous. Say it ain’t so Tommy. Give me reason for optimism.

    • or____

Tell me how dallasss, even with zeke, matches up well with the Eagles?

    • kajomo

When we played the Chiefs this team was still figuring itself out. We couldn’t run the ball and the defense, while good, was not the dominant unit we’ve been watching lately.

The Chiefs were at home coming off a long week of preparation after beating the Patriots the opening night of the season. They were playing great football and were red hot to start the season.

The Chiefs was the Cowboys played has cooled off. Justin Houston barely played and was ineffective when he did. Kareem Hunt hasn’t had a 100 rushing game in weeks. This was also a road game for the Chiefs on a short week after playing Monday night.
The Chiefs played poorly and did a poor job adjusting all night. Alex Smith showed why he is not a real MVP candidate.

The cowboys are a good team. The eagles are closer to great. We will be able to control their running game and force Dak to keep up with Carson. Good luck with that. Offensively we just hung 51 on the best defense in football. We will do a better job of blocking up that dallas front and Carson will do carson things. We are the better team and will show it in 2 weeks. Until then don’t watch sport TV because it will be a Dallas slob fest.

      • GreenBleedin

Thanks for your perspective. Your analysis makes sense. I guess I have seen enough football over the years that you never really know how teams compare until they play head to head. Even then, you can get fooled.

I’m trying to stay optimistic based on last year’s game when we had Dallas beat before giving it away. And this year’s team is much better.

I’ll take your advice and stay away from the national sports pundits.

      • Frencheaglesfan

I agree with the team trying to figure itself out but the secondary and the depht at the Linebacker position is still not really close to very good. Right now we have not faced a QB surrounded with a good passing O capable of exposing this Defense and that is what we are gonna face in the playoffs. Rodgers Wilson Brees and Brady would be a really tough matchup.

        • kajomo

I am not directing this at you specifically, but at the general Eagle naysayer mentality…

GTFO. This eagles team is the most complete team in the NFL, has the outstanding coaching, and the league’s best QB. We just played the best defense we will face all year without JP, Sproles, and Ertz and dropped 51 on them. Opposing QBs have been running for the F-ing lives. They have just been chucking and ducking due to the consistent pressure. We are built like a championship team. Strong in the trenches, top QB, and physical running game.

It’s time to stop doubting or nitpicking this team. Every team has weaknesses right now. No team has been able to overcome them as consistently as we have.

Fans need to be all in. If we continue to take care of business ( everything this season says they will) and we get home field advantage we are going to the super bowl. No team in the NFC is going to come into Philly in January, with the Linc stocking and play the eagles. The Seahawks are a fraud. Cal berkley/LA Goff doesn’t want to travel across the country to play in the cold. Breese doesn’t win big outside his dome. The Vikings don’t have a QB.

Let’s get this thing going through Philly and we can watch our birds in the big game. E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles!!!!

    • A_T_G

Our QB finished the last two games, including his least impressive game and one against the top defense in the league, laughing and relaxing on the sideline. We got this.

    • xeynon

Those f’ing Cowboys also got their asses handed to them by the same Denver team we just beat to a pulp yesterday. We’ve got a 2.5 game lead on them and control our own destiny to a greater degree than they do. The game in two weeks is basically a must-win for them, but not for us. And we have a better quarterback and better defense. Relax.

    • Fufina

Cowboys are not the team i am worried about. We are a fantastic match up with the Cowboys – we stop the run defensively, Dak is not a dynamic outside passer, and our inside pass defense is fantastic with a pair of elite safeties and slot CB, with good LB’s. Oh and relentless pass rush.

Cowboys defense has a great edge rusher and a playmaking LB, and playing sound conservative coverage everywhere else. Bend but don’t break until one of their stars can make a money play. 2 problems they have with the Eagles. 1) we will run all over them 2) Eagles can sustain drives with our league best 3rd down conversion rate, meaning we can just keep taking what their defense gives them.

The 2 teams to be scared of are the Saints and Rams, both have quality offenses, and far better defense than the Cowboys.

    • D3FB

THey could realistic lose to Atlanta this week, in which case if we beat them we wrap up the division

  • A_T_G

I am not sure if this says more about the coaches or Alshon as a man:

Alshon came here on a one-year deal looking to improve his value on an offense devoid of pass catchers. By most impressions, he hasn’t done that. Receivers seem to have materialized out of the mist. He gets less targets than he anticipated, and hasn’t made the most of them. Yet, this is a man truly excited to be part of something special.

    • Frencheaglesfan

This man will play for the Birds for at least two more years! Book it!

    • scratcherk

why they tearing apart torrey smiths jersey in the background.

      • A_T_G

I don’t know, he didn’t even get it dirty yesterday.

      • D3FB

Torrey was probably trying to give it to somebody. Jerseys are actually really hard to get on and off.

    • BlindChow

I dunno, looks like he might be saying, “You stole my touchdown you sonofbitch!”

      • D3FB

Clement is right behind Blount whispering “so did I”

  • scratcherk

Another talking head who would rather have Dak over Carson. I just dont see it. Altho he did play better against KC than I thought he would.

    • xeynon

It’s just classic Cowboys hype. It’s gonna be fun in five years when the media turns on Dak because he can’t get over the hump and beat Carson.

    • Fufina

Dak is very similar to Wilson in his playing style (although Wilson is willing to throw deep down the field more aggressively) in that he is best when passing outside the pocket and on the move. Dak is a more willing runner than Wentz and he throws better on the move and outside the pocket than Wentz.

Wentz in the pocket is light years ahead of Dak, with far better vision, pre-snap reads, footwork, arm talent, anticipation, ball placement and aggression passing the ball.

In the scheme and situation Dak is in he is fantastic, his option play really makes the Cowboys run game frightening, and his strengths are naturally exploited on bootlegs and play action passes. However if you can shut down the run game enough to get them in consistent 3rd and long, and you keep him contained in the pocket (easier said than done) he will really struggle to move the ball.

  • Frencheaglesfan

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PByfWFsNWI0&app=desktop

Is it me or does he run really awkwardly?

    • scratcherk

      awkwardly fast.

    • or____

It just looks weird because he’s Eurpean… Oh wait, never mind

    • Someguy77

A bit but what had me thinking was how Blount never hits that hole on that stretch play 10 times out of 10.

    • A_T_G

I think it might be because he swings his arms across his body instead of parallel to his direction of travel. It makes his look like a muscle-bound action hero.
