The most interesting one is MLB Joe Walker being out with a stinger. That means Dannell Ellerbe is active. What we don’t know is who will play MLB in the base defense and short yardage situations. Najee Goode could get the call. He’s been here for a while and knows the system. Ellerbe is the better player. He’s got a lot more starting experience. The question is whether he knows the system well enough.
Since Seattle struggles to run, my guess is Goode will play. It would be interesting to get a look at Ellerbe.
WR Shelton Gibson is active for the second straight week. He played last week, but didn’t do a whole lot. The #5 WR generally isn’t going to play much or get many targets. The Eagles obviously want him active for a reason. I assume he’s been good in practice and they’re trying to reward him. Gibson does have explosive speed so expect a deep ball to come his way one of these days.
Beau Allen is back at DT. That’s good. Would have been a nice story for Elijah Qualls to play in Seattle because he went to college there, but Allen is the better player. Chasing Russell Wilson around will wear the DL down. The Eagles will likely need to rotate a lot of guys tonight. Having Allen available is a good thing.

The Vikings won today to improve to 10-2. That means the Eagles need to win in order to stay atop the NFC playoff standings. Per noted football guru Jimmy Bama, the Vikings currently own the tiebreaker with the Eagles. Being #1 in early December is nice, but doesn’t guarantee anything. Still plenty of football left, no matter how tonight goes.
That said, start cheering against the Vikings.

I think the TEs could be key tonight. Trey Burton is active and could be a tough matchup for Seattle. He made some big plays in the win over Denver.

This is a game that either team can win. As tough as it is to win in Seattle, they lost their last two home games…to ATL and WAS.
I’m interested to see what happens if the Eagles play a great game. Can Seattle match that?

Wentz’ slide was late enough that a simple hit probably would be OK, but not accelerating once you see the slide, especially going for the head.

The lack of explosiveness in the return game is an under-the-radar weakness for this team as of right now.

In other words, a ball that was passed back, but still went forward at completion is still a lateral. Wilson’s play was probably legal, and what would make it illegal is if Wilson pitched it forward relative to him…

Weakness 1: Vaitai
He definitely wasn’t great tonight, but one of Clark’s sacks was a well-executed stunt where he looped inside the tackle. Hard to tell if that is Big V’s fault or Wisniewski’s. Pressure came from blitzes as well. Wentz had plenty of time to throw on a majority of his dropbacks.
And e don’t have an RB or TE that can help him … Maybe Clement a little at best

His decision making was fine – he wasn’t misreading coverages or throwing to the wrong guy.
Accuracy definitely was an issue though. If he hits on three throws he missed (the two to Agholor and the one to Barner on 4th down) we probably win the game.
This is so accurate and important. People keep throwing around football-y-sounding terms like “decision making”, “preparation”, “game planning”, etc., with little to no connection to what they actually mean. I get so pissed off at stupid criticism because it completely covers up the real things that can be criticized and learned from.
In this case, your precision is stating that his “decision making” was not at fault is exactly right. He didn’t make many bad decisions, but he had a number of bad throws. It’s important to be clear and correct with criticism so you know what you’re talking about. For us, it’s stuff to keep an eye on in the future. For the team, it’s stuff to evaluate and work on. How can they possibly improve if they’re bitching to one another about “game planning” and “decision making”, nebulous things that don’t have much connection to reality and thus cannot serve as a point of improvement?

In critical moments this team came up short today. The players I can chalk up to a learning experience but Doug missing a layup on that forward pass is just hard to excuse. There was plenty of time and plenty of looks between plays, simply no reason not to challenge.
Hopefully Wentz learns more about being a big game quarterback from this because he made some critical mistakes.
Vaitai also exposed as a problem tonight. He’s like 4th or 5th on the list of reasons the Eagles lost but it’s still evident that he’s going to be a problem for us. He was getting toasted by fucking Frank Clark, it’s not like Khalil Mack or someone was beating him like a rented mule.
Really though the other 4/5 of the OL played well (Lane completed dominated Michael Bennett), Nelson Agholor obviously was a beast tonight.
The gameplan was pure trash, the fact that we weren’t throwing downfield at all in the first half was a travesty, especially in light of how easy it was in the 2nd half.
Schwartz’s zero blitz was moronic. Russell Wilson is the absolute last quarterback you run that play against. Mobile and can throw a mile from any platform, easily put it in space for his guy to make the play. Run the 0 blitz against less mobile QB’s Jim.

But Wilson threw over the top of the pressure a lot. That’s dangerous to blitz predictably with him. They are very fundamentally sound on offense and defense.
Doug says they didn’t get all the looks, that’s bullshit, they had that on the TV replay before the snap, and they didn’t hustle to the line either. He’s just covering for the booth fuckup.
If it was the booth that fucked up (and that’s probable – any coach would challenge if they knew that was a forward pass given how critical a play it was), you want him covering for them. Part of being a leader who commands the respect of your team is a “the buck stops here” approach. Start publicly throwing guys under the bus, even if it is their fault, and you very quickly end up in Chip Kelly/Ben McAdon’t territory.
Best advice I’ve ever heard about leadership: “A good leader claims less of the credit than they deserve when things go well and accepts more of the blame than they should when things go poorly.”
But bad advice for a General Manager 🙂
One thing to point out is that playing a good team in a very advantageous stadium is a really difficult game to win. There’s a reason we were the first team since 2012 to be favored at Seattle.
The good news is that a rematch would probably be in PHI. We just need to win some more games, enough to ensure we get a first round bye. HFA would be nice, but 1st round bye is what is so important IMO.
Seems like Seattle got one touchdown with 3 or four first downs from refs on really ticky tacky holds and PI (eagles offense didn’t got those calls) and another TD on a PI that wasn’t, Darby ran a better route than wr and wr couldn’t get through him.
There were definitely some ticky tack calls against us, including the Darby play you cite. But there were others the other way, too, like the Darby hand inside the helmet thing. I think it was a good no call because it seemed incidental (he wasn’t trying to get his hand in there to affect the play), but that kind of thing wouldn’t have pissed me off it if was called.
But yeah, there were some pretty frustrating calls in there. Not why we lost, but it didn’t help the cause.
