Looking Around
Posted: December 24th, 2017 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 65 Comments »This is a long football weekend, with games on Saturday and Sunday, but the Eagles not playing until Monday night. You watch the other NFC contenders and try to assess how they stack up with the Eagles.
The Vikings beat the Packers on Saturday night, keeping their hopes for homefield advantage alive. That was an ugly win. Brett Hundley struggled and his receivers were awful. The Vikings still struggled to get separation from them. They won 16-0, but that was not an impressive win.
Minnesota is a cold weather state, but that team didn’t seem to enjoy playing in the cold weather of Green Bay. They normally play in a dome. Over the years, we’ve seen some dome teams struggle when playing in cold weather in January.
The Rams beat the Titans today, 27-23. I didn’t expect the game to be that close. LA was sloppy. Todd Gurley had a monster game, with 276 total yards. He is a player that scares me. I knew he was good before the Rams-Eagles game, but didn’t appreciate just how good. He’s the kind of guy who can carry an offense in the postseason.
New Orleans beat Atlanta 23-13. The Falcons were a mess, blowing opportunity after opportunity. The Saints looked good and will be one of the favorites. I don’t trust their defense, but Drew Brees and that run game make them dangerous. Alvin Kamara is one heck of a weapon.
Carolina needed a last second TD to beat Tampa. That was a bit of a wild game. The Panthers are dangerous because of Cam Newton and that defense, but the Eagles have already beaten them. That is a tough team. They’re just inconsistent.
Dallas just lost to the Seahawks, eliminating the Cowboys from the postseason. If only they had Ezekiel Elliott. Oh wait. They did and they still lost. Dak Prescott has taken a major step backward this year. As for Seattle, that team always has a puncher’s chance because of their DL and Russell Wilson. They still need help to get into the postseason.
There is no team out there that the Eagles should fear. All of these teams are dangerous in one way or another, but there is no juggernaut this season.

I wrote some thoughts on the Raiders-Eagles game for PE.com.

Dallas has been eliminated from the playoffs. Merry Christmas!
And zeke couldn’t help.
How did Detroit lose to a collapsing Cincy team that had given up on the season? SMH these things make no sense sometimes.
The Jags lost to the Niners. That was more surprising.
Not if this was September lol
weird season/
Belicheck lost that trade. Haha.
Remains to be seen, Jimmy G could be Foles or the real deal.
C’mon. I can call it right now.
How so? They got a high 2nd rounder for a 4th year in the league end of the 2nd rounder who was going to leave via free agency at the end of the year. Also, that guy won enough to keep the Pats into home field advantage last year and minimize the number of games that brisket loser had to play for NE while Brady was out.
I like the trade for both teams.
Because Detroit’s coach is a simpleton?
Merry Christmas everyone!
Down 12 points in fantasy football championship, all my opponent’s player have played and I have FOles and Ertz going tomorrow!
Ajayi will be highest scorer.
Wher can i send a case of PBR to the igglesblitz office ? MERRY XMAS T Law and ALL the nuts in the comments section !! Go Byrds
Merry Christmas!

Please no
They’re more than welcome to overpay to add a player who doesn’t make them any better relative to us.
If Dallas wants to pay 13-15mil a year to a 30 year old safety good luck to them…..
Best stat ever.
Since Carson Wentz tore his ACL he has 1TD and 0 INT.
Dak Prescott has 0TD and 4 INT.
All’s I know ’tis Dallas doth receiveth the most embarrassing loss in recent memory. O’, thine missed kicks and ye dreadful playcalling.
Dak Prescott on his INT that went through hands of Dez Bryant: “I think I have to throw him a better ball. Just put it right there on his face mask and don’t give him a chance to drop it, I guess.”
Dats a Despicable Diss on Dez by Dak .. id be very happy taking an older disappointed Dez to replace Torrey Smith next year !!
I’d be happier to see Mack Hollins step up and do the same thing, but for way cheaper.
No thank you. A tantrum-throwing diva is the last thing this team needs.
Agree we that but seems like his tantrums are down and seems they don’t rely on him enough
Is this a real quote?
Yes!
That sound you heard was me laughing raucously.
Good for Dak for sticking up for himself. Dez was the main reason they lost. That fumble and dropped pass was a 14 point swing.
What about the pick 6?
We were lucky the Rams got away from Gurley when they played against us. I feel we will have the same trouble vs Kamara/Ingram
I feel that should have trouble playing in our building or our team should have trouble doing anything except accepting a collective flogging in public for choking a home playoff game.
Saints are such a nightmare because they will probably be able to run, and Brees can do the 10000 slants bullshit.
Santa brought me a Wentz jersey. “I like Santa.”
Vikings and Eagles without Wentz might be some of the weakest first round bye teams in a while. The upshot of this is that half of the stronger teams will already be eliminated.
But we are the stronger teams! If you look at the rest of the NFC, there is quite the collection of a-holes, clowns, has-beens, and frauds.
I don’t know. Obviously the loss of Wentz hurts the NFC as a whole (there’s no longer an “elite” team in the conference), but the NFC field looks like one of the strongest conference playoff fields in recent memory.
With us at the top of it!
My yearly dose of schadenfreude when the Cowboys are eliminated came early this year. Merry Christmas everyone!
It wasn’t quite as funny as watching all of the shock as Rodgers got them last year, but there is a certain joy to watching their hopes and dreams die slowly all year long.
Having it come via Dak crapping the bed in a nationally televised, must win de facto playoff game compensates for not getting to see Cowboys’ fans absurd SB contention dreams crushed by reality in the playoffs. I want to see all the morons who continue to insist that Prescott is as good as or better than Wentz repeatedly be forced to defend that embarrassingly off-base take.
Theres a link to a “10 thoughts” type article on the sb Nation dallass sight over at BGN in the linc…first time I actually took a peek… So worth it
Merry Christmas and happy holidays.
Everyone please enjoy this holiday gift over the coming months – all three division rivals have major QB issues.
* The Cowboys are stuck with Dak and in denial; the Redhawks will have to shell out a ridiculous sum to keep Cousins OR (lol) find another starting QB; and the Giants clearly need a new QB and will be drafting one – fresh meat in 2018 for our DL.
We are the only team in the division with a franchise QB. And it feels good.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Not sure how Dak fooled everyone, I could tell he wasnt on the same conversation as Carson… but some ppl said he was better… crazy.
While I’m a big fan of analytics (albeit less so in football than other sports), traditional scouting and they eye test are also really important factors. All you had to do was watch Wentz and Prescott last year to know that Carson was on a totally different level.
I think certain things get masked in the NFL. But it doesn’t last long until things are exposed. dallas running game was enough to make dak look good. But that all went away with the Zeke suspension. Just think about chip’s first year vs. the rest of his time in the NFL.
Alshon Jeffery is very cool. Merry Christmas, all.

Wow AJ went beyond. That’s way better than a fundraiser.
Great to see a WR that appears to buck the me first attitude associated with the positions stars.
I realize disliking the Patriots comes easily, but I’m not sure if folks are aware that Benjamin switching the ball from one hand to another in the process of a catch prevents control of the ball until it was settled into the 2nd hand.
Nonsense. The rule was such that it would have counted for a TD. But, Belichick used his time machine and altered the rule prior to the game. Patriots cheat.
Or maybe that was in an alternative universe, which branched off into ours. Or confabulation/Mandela Effect:
http://www.furvilla.com/forums/thread/46923-mandela-effect-confabulation?page=1
Where is that written? It’s not in the official rule that I can see.
It’s kind of crazy how they had 3 TDs overturned on the opponent and they were all analyzed very carefully and determined based on a single camera angle.
About the Benjamin TD- I don’t think there was enough conclusive video evidence to overturn it.
The Sixers need to get this game across the finish line. I’m not going to stomach losing to a team some clown overrated piece of shit Shawn Bradley clone and some dumb bearded Turkish fuck.
Even with Carson Wentz every playoff team had a good chance at beating the Eagles. They’re all pretty close in talent and coaching. No team is far and away better.
NFC might be super competitive next year. Aaron Rodgers back with Green Bay, Dallas and NYG coming back from down years, and etc.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Philly doesn’t make the playoffs next year.
I disagree. With a carson i don’t see anyone coming to Philly and beating us
I don’t see any reason to expect NYG to be good next year. Dallas and the Redhawks appear to have found their level.
Assuming Wentz returns to form, the Eagles should be the front-runners for the Division.
They still have the makings of a really good defense,. With Odell and Manning back, and a revamped OL, NYG can be a complete team next year.
NFC is the deeper confrence right now.
A way too early look at things reveals:
-Chicago will still suck
-Arizona will still suck (unless they get Cousins)
-If Wash loses Cousins they will hardcore suck
-If NYG take a QB 2nd overall they will suck
-Tampa feels like an uncomfortable situation this offseason
Everyone else should be at least decent.
I don’t see the Eagles falling apart next year, but a lack of new blood, coaching staff getting poached, Carson not being 100% could realistically cause a 9-7 team that misses out on the playoffs.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!! GET DRUNK & WATCH THE EAGLES.
Wiz is still out- no big surprise . Mills and Kendricks are active.
Inactives:
OG Stefen Wisniewski – Injury.
LB Joe Walker
WR Shelton Gibson
WR Marcus Johnson
DT Elijah Qualls
DE Steven Means
RB Wendell Smallwood
I thing Rasul is going to come up big tonight after his undeserved streak on the inactive list.
Merry Christmas to everyone
I hope there are no injuries tonight
Agreed, but only because there isn’t anybody on the current Raiders roster I hate enough to want to see injured. Next week vs. Dallas however……………..
