Super Bowl Talk

Tom Brady is the most accomplished QB of all time, but for my money, Aaron Rodgers is the most talented QB in the game today. He can do freaky things and carry a team on his back. As talented and dynamic as Rodgers is, he only has a 10-7 postseason record and one trip to the Super Bowl. He did win it (back in 2010), but you would think a man with his talent would have been a few times.

The problem isn’t Rodgers. The problem is the team’s failure to properly build around him.

I mention that because the Eagles did not make that mistake. They had an amazing offseason and put the right pieces around (and behind) Carson Wentz to take this team from 7-9 to NFC champs, and hopefully beyond. I wrote about Howie Roseman’s great offseason for PE.com.

There are several guys to give credit to. Roseman is at the top because he pulled the trigger on the big moves. Also:

Joe Douglas – Vice President of Player Personnel
Andy Weidl – Assistant Director of Player Personnel
Dwayne Joseph – Director of Pro Scouting
Anthony Patch – Senior Director of College Scouting

This group found players all over the place. From Alshon Jeffery to Patrick Robinson to Corey Clement to Jake Elliott. I love how creative and aggressive they were. Big signings, little signings, trades…you name it. Anything that could help improve the roster. I also love the fact they never stopped. Bryan Braman didn’t get signed by the Eagles until December, but here he is as a core STer in the friggin Super Bowl.

The offseason never stops.

Doug Pederson has been masterful this year at knowing what to do and say for this team. His coaching style should help the Eagles this week. It is easy to get uptight in a situation like this. Pederson seemed incredibly loose last night at the Super Bowl media night, or whatever the exact title was.

The person who asked that was joking with him, but Pederson was genuinely proud of himself for coming up with that answer off the cuff. He seemed at ease with all the crazy questions coming at him. He had a big smile on his face and made a genuine effort to be friendly. He joked with people and they seemed to enjoy talking to him, about a variety of subjects.

Coaches set the tone for their team. Players see them and react accordingly.

Pederson has been a loose, fun guy all year. This team has played that way all year. It was good to see him at ease last night. That’s what this team needs.

If he could get me to relax like that, then we’d have a story…

The Patriots offense isn’t an ideal matchup for the Eagles. This game is going to be a real challenge.

They are likely to go no-huddle and I expect them to throw a lot of screens and other quick passes. Their goal will be to wear down the Eagles DL by not letting them off the field and also making them chase the ball as much as possible.

You can bet they will study the Giants games to see what they can take from those. They have the personnel to execute that type of attack.

Jim Schwartz has had a couple of weeks to get ready. I’m curious to see what he’s going to do.

I don’t have as good a feel for the Pats defense. I need to watch more of them to figure out what I think they’re strategy is going to be.

Here is a good article on Matt Patricia and his defense.

Takin’ one for the team: First.

Re: the Patriots offense not being an ideal matchup for us – this is why it’s so important that our offense get out out to a good start and be able to control the ball, and that our defense tackle well. If we can methodically move the ball and turn those drives into points, we can keep our D rested and force the Patriots to make more high risk throws to catch up, and play into the strengths of our D. Meanwhile good tackling will make them work for every point they get if they’re going to dink and dunk.

Following up to your response to me in last thread, I was with someone (Pats fan obv) Sat who was like so how do you see the match up. I said our OL is better than your DL and our DL is better than your OL, but are they enough better to make up for Brady. then I started talking about our OL, and I think he had no preconceived notion of whether they were any good or not.

I will say I’ll start panicking if we are kicking FG’s. FG’s are typically not enough in the end to beat the Pats.

  11. 11 Someguy77 said at 1:29 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Good tackling is the most critical thing by the secondary. When this defense lagged a bit in the 2nd half, they gave up some big plays but it was the YAC on short/immediate routes which really hurt especially vs Giants.

Eagles aren’t going to play press with their corners then they need to make sure the tackle is made.

  12. 12 bdbd20 said at 9:23 AM on January 30th, 2018:

I wonder if this is one of those games where we play nickel/dime close to 100%. Schwartz has shown the ability to control the run in nickel.

Not sure if Brady will go no-huddle all game, but seems likely.

The Pats start games like a Boxer. See what the other team’s game plan is, cautiously, absorb the damage, come back at half-time with adjustments. So it would be interesting if they came in with the pedal to the metal.

Once again the great TBEisen from over at BGN has poured through the fan comments on Super Bowl Nation about the Eagles most recent game to bring you another edition of “What They’re Saying About the Eagles.”

Last week he produced comments from the AFC fans about the NFCCG. It was great. I know some of you viewed it, This edition is NFCCG Volume II containing comments from fans of the good old NFC that we know and love.

This will pump you up and chew up some of your spare time in the hours and days before the big game. “WTS” is always a treat and is highly recommended. Enjoy!

  18. 18 or____ said at 10:08 AM on January 30th, 2018:

  22. 22 Ryan Rambo said at 11:52 AM on January 30th, 2018:

Because the coaches feel he’s healthy and contribute? IDK, why is it so far fetched? It’s not like NE has only 1 good wr.

Appreciate the intelligent response. You are the man! 😉

  24. 24 Ark87 said at 12:20 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Unless he’s at a place where coaches are super high on him, it will be tough to crack the lineup. The team loves the starters of Darby, Mills, and P-Rob (who’s basically untouchable in the slot). When we need another corner on the field they like moving Jenkins over and throwing another Safety of the field. Beyond that, the next man up at this point is most likely Rasul Douglas. At this point all the depth is for special teams as well. Now if his physical profile was more suitable to handle the Amendolas, he might have a chance of getting his shot if someone else was getting exposed, but Janes is not twitchy or explosive either. https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/sidney-jones

So I don’t expect it, but if the coaches are high enough on him to insert him into the Superbowl, that would be impressive and exciting.

  25. 25 Ryan Rambo said at 12:40 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Good info Ark! Appreciate the insight sir! I’m just wanting all of our possible defensive weapons available if needed. Najee Good does NOTHING for me, but maybe he’s a decent ST’er.

  26. 26 eagleyankfan said at 11:12 AM on January 30th, 2018:

“They are likely to go no-huddle and I expect them to throw a lot of screens and other quick passes. Their goal will be to wear down the Eagles DL by not letting them off the field and also making them chase the ball as much as possible.” — Cox is the best defensive player — running at him won’t be a good idea. NE isn’t strong enough at the LOS to attack Cox.

    ….

Aaron Rodgers is the most talented QB in the game today. He can do freaky things and carry a team on his back.
    — Rodgers is great — but I’m going to disagree with you. 11, IMHO, is the most talented. Maybe Rodgers has been better for a longer period of time — but 11 is pretty damn good…

  27. 27 Insomniac said at 12:05 PM on January 30th, 2018:

11 is almost on Rodgers levle in his second year, that’s scary considering that Rodgers wasn’t Rodgers until his fifth year.

  28. 28 Dave said at 12:33 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Rodgers 5th year in the league (his 2nd starting) are quite similar to Carson’s 2nd year numbers. Rodgers was 26, Wentz was 25.

  29. 29 xeynon said at 2:52 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Nitpick, but Wentz was 24 the entirety of the time he played in 2017. He didn’t turn 25 until Dec. 30th, well after his season ended with a knee injury.

  30. 30 Insomniac said at 5:18 PM on January 30th, 2018:

True but it might not be that close if Wentz played a full season.

  31. 31 Dave said at 5:26 PM on January 30th, 2018:

I was mainly looking at TD to INT ratio and QBR/QB Rating. Yardage was down but I think TDs were similar.

Still, your point is valid on their similarities.

  32. 32 eagleyankfan said at 8:29 AM on January 31st, 2018:

That’s exactly my point. Both had great coaching. Rodgers had an amazing QB to study for a bit. Don’t get me wrong on this — I love Rodgers. There’s just something about this Wentz kid I haven’t seen in a long long time….

  33. 33 Donald Kalinowski said at 1:15 PM on January 30th, 2018:

I think Rodgers is the most talented QB of all time.

  34. 34 eagleyankfan said at 8:27 AM on January 31st, 2018:

    Montana/Elway/Brady/Manning/Roger etc … I see your point though…

  35. 35 laeagle said at 2:15 PM on January 30th, 2018:

“talent” would presumably include arm strength, and Rogers’s arm is on a different level from Wentz’s. Wentz doesn’t make that throw against Detroit from a couple of years ago.

  36. 36 eagleyankfan said at 8:26 AM on January 31st, 2018:

“talent” would also include game managing, line of scrimmage adjustments, seeing/adapting to defense…lots of phases being “most talented” — arm strength alone is not enough…

  37. 37 Sean E said at 12:15 PM on January 30th, 2018:

This is obvious stuff, but the key to stopping a no-huddle is to force some 3&outs. In addition, you need to be willing to burn a timeout if they get a very long completion that ends near the goal line and they’re running up to execute their next play..

  38. 38 Guy Media said at 4:17 AM on January 31st, 2018:

Obviously, I’ll be forced to say some nasty things about our defense if it doesn’t cause some 3 & outs.

  39. 39 Dave said at 12:29 PM on January 30th, 2018:

A little off topic. Now that the Titans hired an OC, that only leaves the Giants as a team in need. I keep reading both Duce and Defillipo as candidates. Shurmur has stated that he will call plays, so his OC would be similar to Reich’s position with the Eagles.

  40. 40 Bert's Bells said at 1:06 PM on January 30th, 2018:

As much as I hate to lose him and for the Giants to gain him, I’d actually be happy for Duce to make the step up to OC.

  41. 41 Someguy77 said at 1:24 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Doubt losing either would be a big blow and Staley strikes me as a nice guy who will be in over his head as a cordinator even if he isn’t calling plays.

  42. 42 Bert's Bells said at 1:32 PM on January 30th, 2018:

THEY SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT DUG!

  43. 43 xeynon said at 2:50 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Somebody (may have been Doug) called Duce “one of the smartest football minds he’d ever been around”, or something to that effect. Said that Duce had a comprehensive understanding of offensive concepts and what every player’s role on each play is. Sounds like a guy who’d make a good coordinator to me.

  44. 44 Guy Media said at 4:16 AM on January 31st, 2018:

I’d be happier seeing Duce, and his stupid substitution patterns at RB, go to NY!

  45. 45 DJH said at 12:29 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Re Pats going no-huddle and make DL cover field

This is where the many TV timeouts and long halftime will actually be a good thing for us.

And as noted, Eagles are a ball-control, TOP team, and on paper we should be able to bully this Pats defense just the same—which also will help counteract the Pats evil “wear out the DL” schemes.

  46. 46 Dan in Philly said at 12:30 PM on January 30th, 2018:

  49. 49 Sean E said at 12:35 PM on January 30th, 2018:

I’m just saying, but what people call RPO today are the same thing we used to call ‘Zone Read’.

  50. 50 SteveH said at 5:15 PM on January 30th, 2018:

I could be wrong but I think the zone read is the option for the quarterback to hand it off or run with it, where as an RPO is hand it off or throw it.

RPOs have been around for a long time I think they’ve just gained some popularity this year. Copycat league and all.

  51. 51 Sean E said at 5:54 PM on January 30th, 2018:

I’d counter and say that having the option for the QB to keep it and run with it would be the Zone Read Option.

  52. 52 CrackSammich said at 6:01 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Which is not a Run Pass Option. Steve is correct.

  53. 53 Sean E said at 6:50 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Zone Read = QB reads the defense and keeps the ball (to throw it) or hands it off. The option addition just means the QB can run the ball himself (that’s the Option offense), or even choose between multiple RBs.

Confusingly, the ‘option’ in Zone Read Option refers to the Option offense – the QB has multiple options to run the ball, possibly himself or maybe 2 RBs. The ‘option’ in RPO is the standard English definition of option – you have a choice between running and passing. There’s no implication of “Option offense” in RPO.

  54. 54 SteveH said at 7:54 PM on January 30th, 2018:

I guess at the end of the day, why are we arguing about what it’s called nowadays? RPO, read option, I don’t give a shit what we call it as long as it keeps working for us.

  57. 57 joe said at 1:53 PM on January 30th, 2018:

  60. 60 DJH said at 1:23 PM on January 30th, 2018:

It’s a travesty that Green Bay has been gifted Aaron Rodgers (with the 24th overall pick no less) and have squandered so many of his prime years.

Subpar coaches, subpar personnel, the team needs a fucking training staff that knows what they’re doing, they’re perennially among the most injured teams in the league.

Their stubborn insistence on always promoting from within ensures that the cycle of incompetence continues in perpetuity.

  92. 92 xeynon said at 5:26 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Yep. If Belichick had had Rodgers to work with, he’d have won at least five Super Bowls so far. Mike McCarthy is an average coach who’s hung on because he has a great player to cover up his inadequacies.

  93. 93 P_P_K said at 10:42 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Here’s one for you: Would Andy Reid have won Super Bowl’s if he had Rodgers?

  94. 94 xeynon said at 10:44 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Maybe. Rodgers is obviously better than McNabb was but I don’t think it was the quality of the quarterbacking that held Andy back. Donovan was a top 5 QB for the better part of a decade and was plenty good enough to win with.

  95. 95 P_P_K said at 10:47 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Great read on Doug’s days as a high school coach in Louisiana, during which he pulled off some “Friday Night Lights” shit by building a program from scratch at a small school that eventually knocked off a crosstown perennial powerhouse that regularly produced Div-I talent and competed for state championships, despite working with a much more limited talent base.

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/01/30/super-bowl-52-doug-pederson-eagles-high-school-coach-calvary-baptist

Obviously high school is a world away from the NFL, but it really illustrates how smart, hard-working, even-keeled, and meticulous in his preparation Pederson is, and what a mind he has for football strategy. I was already fully a believer after this season, but this just confirms my feeling that we’ve hired a coach who’s going to lead us to sustained success.

  104. 104 Someguy77 said at 10:05 PM on January 30th, 2018:

  105. 105 xeynon said at 10:38 PM on January 30th, 2018:

The charitable view is that reporting on this story required going down to Louisiana and tracking down many former players and associates, and that’s the kind of time-consuming, expensive, deeply reported journalism that sportswriters generally don’t have the time or resources to do, and which only becomes feasible after a guy becomes nationally prominent (such as by reaching a Super Bowl).

The cynical view is that it’s because reporters are lazy and it’s easier to just recycle the standard, available-to-everybody angles focusing on his time in KC, the hiring process, etc.

  113. 113 DJH said at 8:53 PM on January 30th, 2018:

It doesn’t depend on substitutions; the substitution depth of the Eagles is a luxury. Cox and Graham’s reps have gone way up in the postseason.

We will want them fresh for 4th quarter Brady though. TV timeouts and a long half time will help.

Stupid question – but lets say one of the DEs or DTs who would normally come out get “hurt”, couldn’t we do that to prevent no huddle since we have the subs to rotate anyway? I’m honestly not sure how we would be penalized with time outs. Seems like it could be a legit strategy if need be?

  117. 117 mtn_green said at 9:04 PM on January 30th, 2018:

D.L. Doesn’t get gassed on long drives. I’ve not seen it. Patriots usually do a lot of substitutions. Also Jenkins really can play LB or DB or safety, so they won’t have ‘wrong’ personnel on field.

  118. 118 Philadelphian said at 9:15 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Doesn’t the line rotate on long drives?

  119. 119 A_T_G said at 9:29 PM on January 30th, 2018:

I always wonder about this when they talk about the no-huddle preventing substitutions. I understand it prevents the defense from adjusting personnel for the situation, but if a guy is gassed and waves to the sideline that he needs a breather, there should be plenty of time to get off the field after the next play while guys are getting untangled and the ball spotted.

  120. 120 Philadelphian said at 10:54 PM on January 30th, 2018:

Interesting question. Maybe, the problem is that it takes a lot out of you just to constantly run on and off the field.

  121. 121 Masked Man said at 11:53 PM on January 30th, 2018:

He’s been doing a lot less substitution in the playoffs. Nothing to save them for now. Pedal to the Metal for two games. A week off. Winner take all in the Super Bowl.

He can leave his base 4-2-5 on the field – 2 LBs plus Jenkins, McLeod, Darby, Mills and P. Robinson.

Cox used to play half the snaps in the regular season. Now he’s playing 80-85% of the snaps. Jernigan too. Beau Allen gets a few snaps. Destiny Vaeao and those guys, hardly none.

All four DEs will see some time though – Graham, Curry, Long and Barnett.

LBs Bradham and Kendricks get most of the snaps too. Goode and those guys, hardly none.

CBs Darby Mills and Robinson get most of the snaps. R. Douglas hardly none.

  122. 122 Philadelphian said at 12:58 AM on January 31st, 2018:

The problem remains Brady. This guy is so methodical it’s sickening, especially in the 4th quarter. It’s then that we can’t relent on pressure. Yes, the players you mentioned have been known to play more downs, but more often than not the team had a comfortable lead and/or a QB that didn’t scare anyone.

The one game that was encouraging was the Rams game because even though the defense played lousy that day, the line came through late in the game.

Damn. Well, not sure how much better than Cousins he is, and a much more limited future. But he will keep the Redskins relevant.

Cousins will get paid, that’s for sure. He could probably pick between the Vikings, Broncos, and Jaguars, all of whom have good defenses. Though the Vikings could keep with Keenum possibly, or even Bridgewater. There are still QB dominos to fall this offseason, but this was a big one — takes Smith off the board, and probably not much more happens to until Cousins signs somewhere.

Man it feels good to not be part of that carousel.

So if you accept their complete bungling of the whole resigning Cousins thing as a foregone conclusion then they needed to do something at QB lest they become the Cleveland Browns. In that case Alex Smith for a 3rd round pick and a player isn’t a terrible save given their predicament. It’s still a laughably shitty place for them to end up, but it could have been worse.

I just don’t see how you pay Bortles $18mil and $30+mil for Cousins in 2018… I think Denver is the obvious spot for Cousins personally.

  150. 150 Insomniac said at 5:44 PM on January 31st, 2018:

It depends on if Bortles can recover in time. I believe the 19 million is only guaranteed after the new season starts, which is about 5 weeks from now. Wouldn’t surprise me if they’re stuck with Bortles if they can’t cut him in time due to the injury not healing in time.

  186. 186 laeagle said at 2:17 AM on January 31st, 2018:

He’s in a great position and will get paid a lot more than Smith on the open market. Probably Elway in Denver will go overboard.

lol. If Alex Smith is worth $71mil in guarantees, what do you think Cousins is in line for? Cousins played this exactly correct from a money standpoint, and now gets his pick of a couple ready-made teams.

  189. 189 FairOaks said at 8:34 AM on January 31st, 2018:

The position where multiple teams will offer him a goldmine and he can choose a better organization? After taking franchise money for two years?

Broncos (Elway) have seemed willing to pay boatloads of money, but no draft picks, in obtaining QBs — so they would probably be very attracted now.

Jaguars could well be interested too. Maybe Vikings, if they ditch all three QBs they have. Bills. Maybe a couple of others I’m forgetting. There are teams that are pretty well set up except at QB and Cousins will cost nothing but (lots of) money. And you aren’t getting a stud unless you hit the jackpot in the draft.

I’m giving this by Xeynon a needed bump:

“Re: the Patriots offense not being an ideal matchup for us – this is why it’s so important that our offense get out out to a good start and be able to control the ball, and that our defense tackle well.”

Amen on the tackling. Other than vs. Gronk, maybe, I’m not trying to see missed tackles on this team. There was way too much of that early vs. Minnesota and I don’t see Walter Payton or Jerry Rice lining up for the Pats this Sunday. Brady is certainly going to complete passes, but the Eagles need to bring down running backs at the line and receivers where they catch it. NO YARDS AFTER CONTACT/CATCH!!!!

  207. 207 Dave said at 8:27 AM on January 31st, 2018:

I disagree that the Patriots offense is not an ideal matchup. Any offense that has Brady at QB is not ideal; otherwise, we match up pretty well with the rest of their offense.

They have a good slot receiver in Amendola, we have arguably one of the best slot cornerbacks in Robinson.

They have a speedy wide receiver in Cooks, we have a CB in Darby that is just as fast.

They have a big TE with great hands, we have a Pro Bowl safety in Jenkins (and presumably help from McLeod).

  208. 208 eagleyankfan said at 8:31 AM on January 31st, 2018:

Love Jenkins – but he’s not enough for Gronk. Help will be needed. I think people are under estimating how good NE is….

  209. 209 Dave said at 8:33 AM on January 31st, 2018:

    “and presumably help from McLeod”

Nobody is underestimating the Pats, quite the opposite.

  210. 210 Ankerstjernen said at 9:38 AM on January 31st, 2018:

The mismatch on this side of the ball is going to be the NE RBs vs. our linebackers in coverage. Especially when we have three LBs on the field. Belichick is basing his offensive gameplan on this mismatch, he is probably having wet dreams where White and Lewis are running wheel routes against Goode and Ellerby.

But. Schwartz is not dummy and he trusts his DL to handle business from the nickle package. Expect us to match up a DB with a RB for most of the game.

Then what – NE goes two back sets to force a RB-LB matchup in the passing game and it is all going to be screens and splits for the halfbacks? My guess is that a Safety will pull up to cover that scenario and they will look to pass it against single coverage on the other side of the field (gronk or cooks).

This game is going to come down to wether our DBs can play man coverage and force some incompletes on an island. Also, I may be going crazy playing out this game in my mind.

  211. 211 CrackSammich said at 9:49 AM on January 31st, 2018:

The way to combat that is by using the big nickle (3 safety sets) when you would normally go 3 LBs.

  212. 212 Ankerstjernen said at 5:03 AM on February 1st, 2018:

Yea, I find this interesting. You think we are going to see a lot of Corey Graham in this game? Because I dont really know about him making tackles in the open field on guys like Dion Lewis and Gronk. I mean, that is probably a matchup Belichick will love to go after.

  213. 213 Dave said at 11:39 AM on January 31st, 2018:

In the NFC Championship Game, Schwartz stayed in nickel or dime all game with the exception of the first series and Minnesota still couldn’t run the ball. I’d expect the same philosophy against the Pats.

I’d imagine we’ll see a lot of Corey Graham with his responsibility being the RB.

“Also, I may be going crazy playing out this game in my mind.” Me too!

Remember last off-season when we debated whether it would be dumber for Washington to let a quality QB with plenty of years ahead of him walk out the door or to pay an enormous sum of money to a QB that probably wasn’t good enough to get you to the top?

No one suggested that they do both! LolSkins outflanked us again.

  220. 220 eagleyankfan said at 8:42 AM on January 31st, 2018:

End of 2016 — everything is going great for Cousins. Then coordinator leaves for another job. Cousins had little direction last year. Shame too, I liked him.

  221. 221 FairOaks said at 8:51 AM on January 31st, 2018:

Well that and his entire OL getting injured. That will hurt any QB. His passing stats were really not much worse than 2016. All his figures were ballpark, except sacks went from 23 to 41. So when he was able to get the ball off, he was about as good.

I don’t get the feeling he wanted to stay in Washington, so he has played himself into a huge payday with a team he probably prefers. And got franchise money for two years. Took the risk on himself not getting injured, and now it will pay off.

  222. 222 Ankerstjernen said at 9:42 AM on January 31st, 2018:

The one thing about Cousins stats is that they schew wildly when you split them into games played against teams with a winning record and losing record. In 2016 he played a number of terrible teams and padded his stats, then lost games to the rest of them. This year it is more muddy, but he still has a fairly terrible track record against good opponents. This all gets lost in the scuffle, but to me that is an undersold storyline about him. My feeling is that he is going to be more of a game manager than anything else. And Alex Smith is a better QB.

  223. 223 Ankerstjernen said at 10:04 AM on January 31st, 2018:

Redskins wins this year include: Late (very bad) Cardinals, Broncos and Giants teams, pre-Garoppolo 49’ers and a the broken Raiders early. All teams with a very bad record. The two victories against winning teams were against the Rams in week 2 and the 9-7 Seahawks in week 9, where the offense managed to score 17 points.

So I guess Cousins had one impressive victory against the Rams in week two. In comparison he lost games to the eagles (twice), chiefs, cowboys (twice), vikings, saints and chargers.

In other words, I am not buying Cousins at all. He beats poor teams and consistently gets beat badly against playoff teams. for this reason I was really hoping that Snyder would pay him a kings ransom in the end. Now good luck to whatever teams overpays for him in FA.

  224. 224 A_T_G said at 11:34 AM on January 31st, 2018:

I kind of like him too, which is why I don’t think it is a shame at all. He is going to get paid more, likely in a healthier organization, and undoubtedly one where I am more comfortable wishing him well.

Now, for Alex Smith? THAT is a shame.

“It’s something I’ll probably address later,” Douglas said. “I think everybody in this position is confident in their abilities. But I couldn’t be happier.” — Music to my ears. Douglas, and a few other coordinators are key to keeping some continuity for next year or so.
