Eagles Win!

Just some quick thoughts for now.

In the moment…great win. The Eagles fell behind 19-3 and it looked like the Giants were going to score 40 points. The Eagles had no answer. The Eagles offense would move the ball to midfield and then go into stall mode. The Eagles came alive late in the first half and that momentum carried over to the second half. The team never quit and made all kinds of clutch plays. There is real value in that.

Big picture…yikes. The Eagles needed a lot of things to go their way in order to beat a bad team. The Eagles need to play a lot better to really make a run this season. A lot better.

More injuries…Chandon Sullivan and Corey Graham got hurt today. The Eagles desperately need Sidney Jones, Jalen Mills and Rasul Douglas to get healthy.

Heroes…Josh Adams played his best game yet. He was 22-84 on the ground and scored the go-ahead TD. He ran hard between the tackles and showed the ability to get outside. Malcolm Jenkins had an INT late in the first half that proved to be huge. Jenkins played well and gave maximum effort all game long. He did everything he could while playing with a patchwork secondary.

Night and Day…The Giants were almost unstoppable in the first half. They set a franchise record for yards and put up 19 points. The Eagles CBs were really struggling. They missed tackles. They had some coverage issues. They looked as confused as you would have expected. I don’t know what voodoo Jim Schwartz used at halftime, but it worked. The defense gave up 70 yards and 3 points in the second half. And that included dealing with the loss of Sullivan and Graham. The Eagles DL came alive. The whole defense tackled better. The Giants got sloppy. And Pat Shurmur quit feeding Saquon Barkley.

Clutch Carson…Carson Wentz led the Eagles on a big comeback and also on a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter. He didn’t have to make many throws on the final drive, but did hit Nelson Agholor over the middle on fourth down to keep the drive alive. Clutch performance by a player who many have criticized for not playing so well in the fourth quarter.

Winning…even ugly games…is fun.

Be happy for a week!
