The Dead Live!

Here we are on the day before Halloween. You can be scared of goblins, ghouls and assorted monsters. Or you can dismiss them as fake. But I’m here to tell you that the dead live.

And I’ve got proof!

The Eagles didn’t add any talent on Tuesday, but they did on Wednesday. Some injured players got back on the field and took part in practice.

One of the reasons Howie Roseman could afford to be a picky shopper is that he knew his team was going to get an infusion of talent in the coming weeks.

WR DeSean Jackson
RB Darren Sproles
OT Jason Peters
DT Tim Jernigan
LB Nigel Bradham
DB Avonte Maddox
CB Cre’Von LeBlanc

That’s better than the haul any of the other 31 teams got this week.

Maddox expects to play this week. It sounds like DeSean wants to. We’ll have to wait and see on that. I’m sure it would be tempting for the team to have guys sit another week and then get additional rest in the bye week to make them as ready as possible for the Patriots on Nov. 17th.

Doug Pederson said at his PC today that he wants everyone who can help the team to play this week. And you understand that mentality. When you’re 4-4, every game is precious. You can’t rest up for the big games. You need all hands on deck. You don’t want to be reckless, but you also don’t want to send a message to your players that the Bears are to be taken lightly in any way.

One way for Pederson to do that is to let his players know that he wants them ready for Sunday.

RB Miles Sanders did not practice on Wednesday, but said he should be out there on Thursday and he expects to play against the Bears. That’s good news for a couple of reasons.

First, Sanders has been a big play machine for the Eagles. He has three plays of 40 or more yards. He has eight plays of 20 or more yards. Those plays have been a big help with DeSean sidelined since early September. You have to wonder if the long TD run on Sunday will give Sanders a confidence boost. He’s been erratic as a runner in recent weeks and that play could get him going.

As a receiver, he’s been lights out all year.

The other reason the Eagles need Sanders is to help out Jordan Howard.

Howard has been terrific for the Eagles this year. He is tough, durable and a consummate pro. With Sanders hurt on Sunday, Howard had 23 carries. He was tired and beaten up by the end of the win over the Bills. He looked like one sore dude.

The Bears have a tough, physical defense. You need a pair of RBs to feed the ball to, with Boston Scott coming in here and there. This wouldn’t be the week to go with Howard and Scott. Sanders is definitely needed. The Eagles can now rotate runners to keep them fresh, and to also create favorable matchups.

A bit more on Genard Avery, your newest Eagle.

I have to admit, the more I read, the more interested I am. The Eagles need more pass rush off the bench. Avery has the potential to provide that.

I’m curious to see what he can do.

Avery can help this team by just filling a key role. He doesn’t have to know the playbook inside-out to do that. He doesn’t need a bunch of coaching to do that. Avery has shown he can play at the NFL level and that he knows how to get to the QB.

Go affect the QB and you’ll make all of Eagles Nation very happy.
