The Kids Are Alright

Infectious is not a good word when describing an outbreak at Chipotle or when it comes as part of a text from your ex. Infectious is a good word when describing the impact that talented young players have on your football team.

Carson Wentz was mic’d up for the Skins game and you can see the impact that Miles Sanders and Greg Ward had on him, and the rest of the offense.

There is some real joy and some real emotion in those moments. And that stuff can make a difference. Their play is infectious.

When you talk about the Eagles chances on Sunday and the rest of the season, intangibles like that are one of the things that does give me some sense of hope.

Sanders speed and playmaking ability mean the offense can get chunk plays. Those are difference-makers. Beyond that, that ability gives confidence to the rest of the offense. They believe good things can happen.

Ward gets open and catches the football. He’s been around for a couple of years, but has had to fight his way onto the roster and then onto the field. He’s quite an underdog and the other players know that. His success is special because of that. Wentz trusts Ward and you can’t quantify the value of that.

The weird injury situations continue.

Weird stuff.

The Eagles had a reason for putting out the statement. Maybe they were being defensive due to his recent concussion or maybe they sensed a disagreement was coming.

Some people saw the statement from the agent as a possible insult to the team. Maybe. I read it more as a message to the other 31 teams. KGH is a free agent after the season and it seems like he’ll probably be looking for a job somewhere else.

Enough speculation. Let’s talk about the on-field impact. KGH is a very good STs player and solid LB. Losing him isn’t good.

That said, KGH wasn’t having a strong year. He got injured this summer and hasn’t stood out this season. Terrible timing. KGH looked great in Training Camp and expectations were sky high for him.

The Eagles have had some young LBs step up this year. Nate Gerry has played the best football of his young career. Rookie T.J. Edwards has shown real promise. Journeyman Duke Riley has been a good STer and role player.

I actually think the Eagles will be okay, unless someone gets hurt. Fingers crossed.

I’m sure Dak will manage to crawl out of the grave on Sunday and throw a pass or two.
