Big Hints
Posted: February 3rd, 2021 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 7 Comments »We have been focused on Nick Sirianni and the coaching situation in recent weeks, putting the Carson Wentz on the back burner. That changed on Wednesday when NFL insider Adam Schefter made an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic.
Adam Schefter dropped a bomb earlier today regarding Carson Wentz and the Eagles. Check out the full interview belowhttps://t.co/H0FDEsjpGV pic.twitter.com/1DrDtjG1Up

Brandon Gowton did us all a favor by transcribing some of the highlights. Here is the key exchange for me.
KINCADE: It does! It tells me that the leader of the franchise, the guy who is supposed to be the face of the franchise, somehow is disconnected from the franchise.
SCHEFTER: And wants to leave the franchise. Okay? And that’s why the trade still is in play. And, again, people wondering where did this stuff come from at the end of the year. Was it made [up]? This is all real. None of this is made up. And just because he would like to be moved or hasn’t commented doesn’t mean he will be. If I had to guess, I would guess he is traded. That would be my guess. At some point this offseason. But, again, they’re not looking to get rid of him. They’re not.
It is easy to dismiss Schefter’s comments if that’s not what you want to hear. When you look at the situation from a distance, it sure seems like this could be headed for a divorce.
I thought firing Doug Pederson and bringing in a Frank Reich protege would help to repair the relationship between Wentz and the Eagles, but he’s been silent throughout these moves. The only thing he’s said this offseason is a social media post supporting Rodney McLeod.
I am of the belief that the Eagles need Carson Wentz to embrace the changes and new staff if they are going to keep him around. If he has any doubts or hesitation, move on. You don’t want Wentz here unless he is fully committed.
Schefter hasn’t talked to Wentz directly, but he is better connected than any other person who covers the league. Obviously this is what is being said behind the scenes. If Wentz wanted to put a stop to this talk, he could say something on social media or talk to any number of media outlets. He has stayed silent.
Wentz’s silence could be a calculated move to help the team trade him. If he demands a trade, that could lessen the market. If Wentz stays quiet, the Eagles can listen to offers without shopping him, giving them some help with negotiations.
I was hoping Wentz and the Eagles could work through things. He is a very talented QB. If you can fix him, you’ve got a franchise QB.
Maybe Schefter’s prediction is wrong, but he’s right when it comes to a lot of these situations. I don’t think he would talk openly like this if he didn’t hear some pretty strong things from good sources. Schefter isn’t the only one who sees issues.
I would lean to him not being on the roster. I would LEAN that way. I think it may be a slow realization on the Eagles' part. They are not rushing to get rid of him, but if he wants to gone, it can become a situation that can be untenable. – @Tim_McManus

His silence is speaking volumes to me. With Sirianni being here, people thought maybe it was just the coach. There are trust issues between Wentz & the Eagles. If you are in Carson's shoes with Hurts here, how does anything change for him? – @Tim_McManus

If the Eagles can somehow get a first rounder for Wentz, make the move. We’ll have to see if there is that strong of a market. Daniel Jeremiah recently said he thinks several teams could have interest in Wentz.
According to @MoveTheSticks GM’s are basically biting on the lip about the chance of trading for Carson Wentz. He says there are several teams who would “ be in on that”. Teams know Wentz is talented, and still has a lot of juice left in the tank #Eagles pic.twitter.com/mhgANnXjMa

All we can do is wait and speculate.

The NFL and NFLPA began preliminary negotiations last month on the 2021 salary cap, which some believe will end up higher than expected. It’s one of several key issues as the sides brace for another unusual offseason, with Super Bowl LV days away.https://t.co/PrdNKWIap5

The cap going up would be good news for the Eagles, especially if they do want to trade Wentz. They still are going to have to make a lot of tough moves this offseason, but more flexibility would help.

If the Eagles do move on from Wentz, they could take a QB at #6 (or higher). Jalen Hurts did some good things as a rookie, but are you really ready for him to be your QB of the future?
Could the Eagles look for a veteran?
Lots of questions. No answers right now.
