Gameday – JAX at PHI

I don’t think many people looked at Jacksonville at Philadelphia as a big game when the NFL schedule came out. And yet, here we are. Two of the league’s top teams meet for an early October showdown. Who will pass this early season test?

Weather will be a factor today. Rain and wind will give us sloppy conditions. In theory, that favors the underdog, Jacksonville in this case. The more talented team generally prefers pristine conditions. Both teams have good running games and good defenses so there isn’t a clear advantage from a personnel or schematic sense.

No Boston Scott or Avante Maddox. Trey Sermon is active, but we’ll have to wait and see if he’s part of the offensive gameplan. Andre Chachere will add depth in the secondary.

The Eagles won’t have to face one of the Jags key weapons. Jones leads the team in receptions so that will make things harder for Trevor Lawrence.

STs will be extra important today because of the weather. Every snap, block and kick becomes a bit more challenging. The Eagles have struggled on STs this year so this is an area to watch. They can’t afford any big mistakes against a quality opponent like the Jags.

I’m excited to see how the Eagles play today.

  • Good opponent
  • Bad weather
  • Facing old coach
  • Injuries to deal with

This is the kind of stuff that good teams handle. If the Eagles get through this and win, that tells us this team is even further along than we thought. If they lose, they can learn from this and benefit down the road. Remember that the Super Bowl team lost in Week 2 to the Chiefs and Andy Reid. That game helped them to be better for other challenges that came along later in the season.

Jalen Hurts will go up against the toughest defense he’s faced this year. No one has had an answer for him yet.

I don’t think that changes today.
