Gameday – PHI at HOU

Pick your poison. Do the Texans keep their safeties back (their preference) to limit big plays through the air? Do the Texans load the box to slow down the Eagles run game?

The Eagles can do a bit of everything so Houston really has a tough choice here. Lovie Smith prefers to play Cover 2 and take his chances against the run. He could certainly do that tonight, hoping the Eagles will at least take longer drives to move the ball and score. The Eagles run the ball really well so they should be comfortable no matter how Houston plays.

I’m sure the Eagles would love to strike early, build a lead and then be able to mix in backups. The coaches want to keep their players healthy and as rested as possible. That said, you can’t count on building a lead. Houston is a bad team, but they still have NFL players. They will make some plays.

One backup we’d like to see play is Marvin Wilson. He could eat up some of the NT reps.

No Opeta. That’s interesting. We do get to see DB Reed Blankenship.

Cam Jurgens can play G or C. Jack Driscoll can play G or T. Last week Andre Dillard got some snaps at LG. They have more flexibility with this group than if Opeta was active.

The thing to watch on defense is what the Eagles do at NT. I’m guessing both Marlon Tuipulotu and Javon Hargrave will both see reps in there. It will be interesting to see how they look. Moving those guys to NT could mean more snaps for Milton Williams, maybe Brandon Graham. Jonathan Gannon will adjust based on how his guys perform.

Let’s hope the Eagles play well and take control of this game early on. That way fans can watch the Phillies and spend their emotional energy on that team in a critical situation.

Go Eagles and go Phillies!
