Eagles Add CB, Rumors Abound
Posted: March 8th, 2016 | Author: Tommy Lawlor | Filed under: Philadelphia Eagles | 1,329 Comments »The Eagles signed CB Leodis McKelvin on Tuesday. He had been cut by Buffalo recently so he was eligible to sign right away and didn’t have to wait for the league year to start on Wednesday.
Jimmy Bama has the details on McKelvin, who signed a 2-year deal. The obvious attraction to McKelvin is that he played for Jim Schwartz in Buffalo in 2014. McKelvin had a career high 4 INTs that year despite only playing in 10 games.
McKelvin was rumored to have a visit set up for Dallas, but said he signed with the Eagles because he wanted to play for Schwartz and also didn’t want to drag out the process. He’s dealt with injuries in recent years (nothing drastic), but is completely healthy right now and wants to focus on training to be ready for the 2016 season.
Buffalo cut McKelvin because they had cap issues. It wasn’t a case that he was no longer a solid starter. McKelvin was asked if the Eagles told him he would start or what exactly his role might be. He said nothing was definitive and that he was just here to contribute and compete. That’s what you want to hear from a veteran.
McKelvin has a very good chance to be a starting CB. The Eagles will have him compete with the young guys already in place. The team could add a CB early in the draft. They are also still in touch with Nolan Carroll about returning. They aren’t putting all their eggs in one basket. There were reports that the Eagles had interest in free agent CB Patrick Robinson. That could be another piece of the puzzle.

There are all kinds of rumors about the compensation the Eagles will get in the trades with Tennessee and Miami. No one is sure of anything.
"Reports" the #Eagles swapped 1st rd picks w/ Dolphins and also received a 4th rd pick are erroneous, I'm told. Patience, young Skywalkers.
— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) March 8, 2016
That would have been a great deal, but sounds too good. We’ll find out Wednesday afternoon what the details are.
*****
#Eagles reached out on another ex-Bills player who played for Jim Schwartz, per sources: LB Nigel Bradham. 26-yr old has 38 career starts.
— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) March 8, 2016
The Eagles need a SAM LB. Bradham has played that spot (as well as WIL) and played for Schwartz. He would be a good, reasonably priced addition to the LB corps. The Eagles have been linked to Tahir Whitehead of the Lions as a FA target. Bradham could be a someone else to talk to in case things don’t work out with Whitehead. Or the Eagles could add both players (if the price is right). The team needs a SAM LB and depth.
Bradham did post his best numbers in Schwartz’s defense in 2014 so you can see why both sides would be interested in each other.
*****
Eagles' re-signing of Sam Bradford did not spell the end of QB Chase Daniel in Philly. Doug Pederson's buddy remains a possibility there.
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) March 8, 2016
I would be fine with cutting Mark Sanchez and spending that money to sign Daniel. I don’t really trust Sanchez right now. Daniel doesn’t have the most compelling resume, but he’s been a solid backup for several years now. He knows Doug Pederson and what he wants. QBs like that have value when helping a team learn a new coach’s offense.

Jason La Canfora thinks Ryan Mathews could still be on the move.
Roseman is motivated to pawn off running back Ryan Mathews as well, I continue to hear, and will probably take next to nothing to move him. They may be positioned to draft a back in the first round, and I would not be surprised at all if the takes the future cash and cap savings from shipping off Murray and Maxwell and invests it in an extension for Fletcher Cox and perhaps a free-agent corner as well (he’s dabbled in that market with some regularity).
La Canfora hated Chip Kelly and was out of the loop for a while, but now is tuned back in to what the Eagles are thinking and doing. Listen to him.
Why deal Mathews, who played well last year?
RB is a position where you shouldn’t overpay anyone. Mathews isn’t making big bucks, but isn’t cheap either. He missed 3 full games last year and was hurt in others. He missed 10 games the year before that. Mathews will turn 29 this season. That’s not a great overall description.
I do wonder if the Eagles have some RB targeted, in the draft or free agency.
Took a look at low-cost options at RB for the Eagles in FA. Two I came up with that could make sense are Bilal Powell (Jets) and Chris Polk.
— Jimmy Kempski (@JimmyKempski) March 8, 2016
I love Powell. He really impressed me last year. That would be a terrific signing.
*****
There has been some talk of signing Brandon Boykin, who the Eagles traded last summer. I would be fine with this, if Boykin would now accept that he’s a slot corner. He desperately wanted a chance on the outside. He never really got that under Chip Kelly and Bill Davis. I happen to think they were right and he was best suited to be the Nickel. Boykin had a frustrating year in Pittsburgh and might embrace a return to being the NB for the Eagles.
And I seem to recall he was kinda decent on STs.
No idea if this is pure speculation or if the Eagles have any real interest.

Wednesday night we should have a new Eagle to talk about (or something very close to that) and lots more rumors to go through.
I can’t wait.

Speaking of rumors, perhaps we should be referring to Hicks as Liono instead if Simba:

To go with Lion-O, wouldn’t Tony Romo and the medical staff have to decide on the Mumm-Ra procedure?
Thanks. I was tired and hadn’t fully crafted that one.

Just seems to me that we’re back on the right road again after all of the “Kelly Kraziness” (TM) of the past couple of years.
Eagles need to look for an every down back probably in the draft. Powell is 28 in October, he’s a sketchy fit with the crew we have but maybe if f they get rid of Mathews and Barner.
https://twitter.com/AllbrightNFL/status/706994618370367489
If Eagles do not get the 8th pick — references to this idiot should never be made again…
He has actually been pretty sharp in the past year since the FOles trade
oh I agree. Its him acting like a baby now because of his “too soon” tweet. Man up.
If he can’t screw over his source, what do you want him to do? If his source doesn’t want him to release the info yet, burning his source is how he won’t be in the loop next time when we are searching for info…
..
Im curious to see who is right, Albright who stuck to tbis report, or Jeff McClane who Poo Pooed the report
guessing the source should have told him NOT to print it yet. Either way – crying the fans copied it is not a mature way to go about it. You’re right though the didn’t back down.
Hoping Maxwell exam goes better – otherwise, we’ll never know…lol
Oh I didnt see him complaining about fans… When a reporter called Him out on it, he said “I stand by it”…
..
If he is really crying about fans finding out than he is the fool for tweeting it
yes because he’s was mad fans copied his tweet – so even though he deleted it, the fans still circulated…
Id be fine with polk coming back. havent really paid attention to what he did with the texans tho.. but he always ran tough with the eagles tho
he did nothing, their rb corps was a mess
It seems like most of the Roseman haters are eating crow now, but they are still holding on to the “He’s an accountant, a numbers guys, but he can’t evaluate talent” thing.
The Eagles have plenty of people on their scouting staff. The Eagles aren’t paying them to be overruled in the end by the gut feeling of a “football guy”. I’d rather have those opinions and reports being collated in Roseman’s brain calculator.
Read Moneyball for chrissakes.
We’ll see what happens with Howie’s personnel moves – he’s definitely had some hits during the period he was indisputably in charge (Sproles trade, Barwin and Jenkins signings, the 2012 and 2013 drafts) but he’s had some whiffs as well (re-upping Cooper, Bradley Fletcher, Marcus Smith). That’s true of every NFL personnel guy but I think it’s fair to say the jury is still out to an extent.
However, there’s no question he’s very good at other aspects of the GM job. He’s a smart and responsible manager of the cap, a shrewd judge of value, and an opportunistic and effective trader. After the nightmare that was Chip it’s nice to be rooting for the team doing the fleecing in trades again.
Moneyball is the single most cliched-driven and beat to death point today in sports and about big data/analytics in general.
The reason those early 00s A’s teams were so good wasn’t because of finding that many undervalued OBP hitters but developing a great rotation (which is still largely based on luck given washout rates of pitching prospects due to injury/ineffectiveness) and finding functional relievers.
It may be a cliche, but I’d rather have Howie picking the talent the scouts and coaches recommend than having Andy Reid pick Jaiquawn Jarrett in the 2nd round because he saw him play in person once or Josh Huff in the third round because Oregon.
Howie uses his brain. A significant number of fans want a “football guy” to make the picks with his gut.
We disagree pretty strongly on Roseman but I’m willing to give him 3 drafts to show what he can do.
I just hope that now that he is in charge of player personnel moves that the same level of accountability comes with it. Drives me nuts that lurie has largely publicly absolved him of any real poor move the Eagles have made including dream team I or early draft round busts.
We are purely speculating as to what Howie has done. Reid was here during the Dream Team. No idea whether Reid wanted those signings or not. Same for 2014. No idea what input Chip had. It makes no sense for a GM (or any personnel guy) to ignore the coaching staff’s opinion.
McKelvin supposedly has not played a full season since 2011. I think that had to have factored in to why the Bills cut him. If he is a depth guy, its not a big deal, but McKelvin should not be relied on to start IMO.
Rebuilding to contend as garbage kings of NFCE
Building vs contending? Tbis isn’t the NBA…. We are building, while still being in division title or bust mode. Call it what you want, anything short of division title in this crap division is unacceptable….
One of the reasons I think Howie has taken a chainsaw to the “2015 offseason” portion of the roster is a desire to clean up the cap sheet in the longer term – by accelerating all the dead money from Murray, Maxwell, etc. into this year’s cap, when the team is not on the verge of contention and isn’t likely to be bidding for top-notch free agents anyway, he’s cleared the decks for the 2017 and 2018 offseasons when hopefully they’ll be one or two pieces from title contention and will need the flexibility to make a big splash for the right player. Smart long-term asset management, which has always been one of his strengths.
I like the McKelvin signing. He’s had some injury issues and is not Darrelle Revis, but he’s a solid CB and he comes at a low price and without a long-term commitment. This gives them the flexibility to draft a “raw tools” rookie and develop him rather than depending on him to start from day one.
I’d like Bradham as a signing. Schwartz knows him, he’s been productive in the system, and he’s the kind of young, ascending player that smart teams target in free agency.
Mathews was good when healthy when last year, but I’d be okay with letting him go. One of the dumbest things Kelly did last offseason was commit a huge portion of the cap to RBs, a pretty fungible position. Teams like the Ravens and Broncos have shown for years that you can take a pretty average back and turn him into a highly productive player with a good scheme and a good OL. Conversely even a good back like Murray will look bad running behind the hot garbage that was our OL last year.
I’m all aboard the bring back Boykin and Polk train.
Ironic that McKelvin “didn’t want to drag out the process” seeing as that’s all his predecessor wanted to do…

Hi-ho Fells! Away!
RB should be interesting and I’m really fine with any scenario that gets rid of Barner.

No worries, I was talking to myself during this whole fiasco as well.
Giants sign Janoris Jenkins
Not good.
I think he’s overrated, gotta see the money though
Maybe. Typical boom or bust type of player. Like Byron Maxwell…
I think he’s a better CB than Maxwell.
Let’s re-think in case the Dolphins trade is called off.. 😉

F*CK!
things would get a bit awkward….
Why did the Eagles sign a CB from Buff and a possible sign of the LB? I think the answer to that is very obvious(and expected). The coaching staff in Buffalo sucks. Why in the world would anybody want to play Rex? If that wasn’t bad enough, they signed Rex’s brother to coach the D. 2 clueless coaches != success. I’d want out of Buffalo too….
Really hope the Boykin rumors are true. That guy did nothing but make plays in Philly.
not how I remember his last year here…

UPDATE: #Dolphins & #Eagles Trade Being Held Up Due To Concerns Regarding Byron Maxwell’s Shoulder, Not Off http://bit.ly/1QD73IU
I thought it would be Kiko who held up the rade
Really! This sucks. Hopefully it’s not a huge deal breaker.
I swear if it’s called off
LOL. So in case it’s called off we can call Maxwell and Kiko good and reliable players again I guess?!
Do you?
Not me. But there will be some Eagles fans for sure.
‘held up’ as in Eagles need to sweeten the deal by throwing in their 1st round pick?! lol
I’m hearing $12M a year for Jenkins….that’s really bad
Id rather the Giants keep 12mil in Cap space instead of having to play against Janoris
How do you invest over $22M a year into Janoris and JPP?
https://twitter.com/Edwerderespn/status/707551588852883456
It may sound absurd, but I have to wonder if in days without Internet and Twitter this trade would have been called off 20 years ago…
Physicals have been standard procedure for trades for a long time so if 20 years ago trades still hindered on physicals then yes this trade would be going the same way.
And I thought today was going to be a good day.
I can’t help but to think, with today’s modern technology, that if the latest ‘report’ was anywhere close to true, the doplhins had 2 days to test the reaction around the league. Obviously most people think they are getting swindled so now they have cold feet.
Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora 2m2 minutes ago
From the Eagles perspective, trade with Miami is ongoing process. Still going through details of the physicals and trying to complete a deal
Probably talking about a conditional pick in the event Maxwell misses time.
Did Maxwell have shoulder problems last year? This is coming out of left field.
Yes, but didn’t miss much time because of it
The deal ISNT off according to the miami beat reporter Armando, they just want to take a closer look at his shoulder before completing it… Armando will appear on philly radio at 11am
..
If they were really trying to get out of this deal, you would think they would start crying about Kiko’s knee
I think Miami might be saying — you know what, we’re rethinking this – might need a little more. HR to call and say “ok, what can I do to get this done”…lol
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer 4m4 minutes ago
CB Byron Maxwell is with doctors in Florida now, per source. Dolphins certainly concerned, taking a closer look. Nothing final either way.
Not a fan of adding 30yr old Free agents, but McKelvin is a solid depth/Subpackage addition considering how little we are paying him. Kind of reminds me a lot of walter Thurmond

Sources tells the @SunSentinel the trade for Byron Maxwell-Kiko Alonso is not off, just needs more examination for medical reasons.
We are talking about a dolphin GM who is allowing a quality young edge rusher in Olivier Vernon Walk, so that they can give Old, SELFISH, Mario Williams 8mil…
seriously, no idea what they are doing.
ZEKE Elliot, Chris Polk, and Sproles is my prefered 2016 group of RB’s.. Smash mouth football with ZEKE and “bang bang, chicken and shrimp” Polk
Chris Ivory is a nice pickup for the Jags
that offense is loaded, besides linemen lol
Y’all know the Jags are my second team, think they’ll be a lot better, still have plenty of space
If they also get Olivier Vernon to rush the passer opposite of Dante Fowler, with MALIK Jackson in the middle, that DL will be Nasty..
..
Love Allen Robinson, would have been great to snatch him up instead of Huff, but he was drafted a round earlier
and Marks is coming back too
That DL would ALMOST be as good as the Eagles 😉
Now the trade falls through and it turns out we were actually getting really good compensation. Upset all over again. What a roller coaster.
Come on Max please
Hope we find out who our starting Guard and starting Safety is today. I already have Free agency fatigue.. The legal tampering period is friggin stupid. For starters EVERYONE was tampering all last week at the combine, so they should just make the combine the legal tampering period and open the free agent market right away on Monday morning after the combine….
..
You aren’t even allowed to have completely worked out deals during the tampering period yet signings have been announced since Monday…clean this process up
Yeah – I’m not really excited about the rb’s in FA. Get me a guard(or 2) and a safety and FA will be a success.
people are thinking about Jeff Allen to us for obvious reasons, how would y’all feel about that?
Feel like people lack immagination connecting us to KC playërs… Im not familiar with his game enough to be able to pound the table for him over some of the quality available Guards that I am familiar with. but Pederson knows him well, if that’s who he wants to entrust Bradfords health to, I trust that Doug knows what a quality Guard looks like..
..
But if we are going to connect ourselves to KC free agents, Sean Smith would probably be a sexier splash
That seems weird to me. I wouldn’t think anything major or we would have heard about it. I’m thinking a shoulder strain/pec strain.
If that’s what it is, it shouldn’t be a big deal. Its really annoying he didn’t seek treatment/ get it rehab’d this off season so far.
Its been 3 months. It should have healed by its self by now.
Unless it was like a grade 1 and he didn’t listen and kept doing bench press etc and it progressed to a grade 2/3.
Then he goes on NFI and loses money and give us cap space
Upon further research it looks like there 6 degrees of SC joint injuries. 1-3 all require conservative management with slings/ice/rehab. The recovery for a grade 3 it about 10-12 and is the longest recovery before surgery is needed. If Maxwell could have played in the playoffs it leads me to believe he had a type I or at worst type II. He should be healed or had surgery by now. He very well may have not listened to doctors and made the injury worse.
Maybe we would’ve made the playoffs if he had “played” in the first two games…
We did hear about it… Sat out a few practices, even missed some game snaps if im not mistaken
I mean after the season. The injury during the season should have been healing already.
maybe not, just ask Romo.
I think it’s all just a big misunderstanding. The Dolphins asked Maxwell to do some bench presses – he replied, as we would expect, that the bar looked really heavy. So they said “how about just some push ups”. An outraged BM said “you want me to get on the ground?!”. Not knowing BM like we do, the Dolphins are just assuming that there must be a shoulder problem
I hate when I get an outraged BM!
omg i hate him
So he likely hurt himself this offseason doing something. I wonder if he has any banned/prohibited activities in his contract that we wasn’t supposed to be engaged in that he injured his shoulder while doing them.
I hate these totally BS rumors about trades before it’s final. My health would be so much better if we went back to 10 years ago when the trade was just announced. Between the Foles debacle last year and now this Maxwell trade, it’s killing me.
I think – in general – being an Eagles fan is deleterious to your health. Something to omit on any life insurance applications…
The Giants are on the hunt for Olvier Vernon, hopefully the Jags out bid them…
..
Anyone hear about any free agent criminals being connects to dallas? Haven’t heard a peep about those scumbags
giants still have $35M or so in cap space I believe, jags have double that though. Hope Jags get Vernon
they keep getting outbid. went after RB who went to Houston. and also M WIlliams.
they outbid everyone on Jenkins though
who?
Janoris Jenkins CB from STL
Oh this overrated corner from STL
was asking about dallas, not NYG. dallas is sitting on hands. they have about 15 holes and less money than eagles.
F*Boys still in the mix for Lamar Miller
Hoping the Texans steal him
did Dolphins pull his transition tag because they now have Kiko?
You mean did they pull the tag because they signed Mario Williams? Not yet, but I assume they will
The good news is that we should hear a resolution to “shoûlder-gate” soon, most fans are hung up on the draft picks we miss out on if the trade gets cancelled, but I would think Roseman and the Eagles are much more worried about what happens to our cap space if they veto the trade.. One way or another we will need to know the outcome of the trade in the next couple hours because it drastically effects our free agent buying power
Well you can always make cap space work, and in the end we are talking about $15mil of money in 2016, which you can spread over 2-3 years with signing bonus money on other contracts without killing the cap long term.
My biggest concern is the fact we would have to bring back a pair of guys into the locker room that know the team does not want them, and apparently Maxwell has hardly been mr professional in 2015… does not look good for team chemistry and play if he is still around under that situation.
MIA better figure this out, or I’m going to………be really angry…..and maybe write some stuff on this forum…
You hear that Tannenbaum!
I WILL ANGRILY WRITE STUFF HERE.
Make it happen.
OR ELSE.
Hope is a dangerous thing
So are Hippos. I wonder if the comp is changing considering new developments.
Doubt it,… They either clear his shoulder or they don’t…. Im not sure HOWIE would let them get away with “we are OK with his shoulder, but we aren’t ok with the shoulder at the original price”… Doubt it works that way
hope you’re right!
In am right.,, there are procedures in place. Deal has to be agreed upon, and Maxwell had to agree to restructured contract before it gets to the Physicals… EVERYTHNG is in place, Miami can either push the deal thru or veto it,… If they do veto it as a ploy to renegotiate, it opens HOWIE up to start talking trades with other teams, which is a dangerous game that could end up costing Miami Maxwell, which could hurt them and leave them with no corner if the market dries up. Or a CB needy team strikes out in FA, makes a nice offer to HOWIE, and the price of acquiring Maxwell goes up instead of down blowing up in Miami face.l
.l
If miami wants to veto this, and renegotiate, they open HOWIE up to renegotiate trades with everyone else…. Probabky all of which is unlikely especially if it’s true that Tannembaum a HOWIE have a good relationship
..
Miami is trying to sign Pacman ANd trade for Max, they need two a corners. By the time they veto this the Starting CB market could dry up…
..
This is NOT a renegotiation ploy for anyone involved,
think Max is trying to weasel more money out of Miami. he knows he has upper hand, they have no CBs since letting Grimes go.
How does that work? If he’s hurt, why would they pay him more?
DOESNT work that way.. Maxwell already agreed to the restructured Contract to get to the point where he is taking a physical, he has no leverage, what’s he gonna threaten to pop his shoulder out of place? Nonsense
they already restructured 2m more onto his salary for him to reduce caphits. Miami is desperate right now.
.
but, yeah, not sure. think this is Maxwell weaseling. he sure as shit doesnt want to come back to philly.
The worst of all evils, according to the ancient Greeks.
Also wooden horses.
Trojans weren’t considered Greek by the Achaeans -whose horse it was, by the way. Calling it a “Trojan Horse” is like calling Fat Man and Little Boy “Japanese Bombs.”
The flip side of the Maxwell trade situation is that, minus the health issues, his value has gone up today. For the acquiring team, he’s at less than $10m per year with about $11 guaranteed. And willing to renegotiate for better terms for the acquiring team. Jenkins is supposedly getting better than $12m/year. That moves the bar for corners way up. If the shoulder issue turns out to be more Miami cold feet than anything, Howie should still have a market to move him.
If Maxwell was at the doctor already this morning, we should be hearing something soon..
..
I don’t believe that this is a renegotiation ploy, I assume they eithet agree to the negotiated deal or not
I just want the 8th pick damn it
Iioka and cincy close to getting a deal done
Yeah I saw… Not surprising
Hoping the Browns DONT cut Manziel.. I want them to hold onto him and force the NFL to take action suspending him so that the Browns can weasel their way out of giving that joke of an NFL QB the 2mil they still owe him

Do you have a job?
Serious question.
Ladies and gentlemen,
please welcome our Frank Gore of 2016: Byron Maxwell!
Why do I have a feeling with deal with the Dolphins is going to end up like the one with the Rams for Bradford where the original deal was much better than the final actual deal?
The Daniel rumors keep circulating. Are the Eagles going to dip into ex-Chief players just as they did for ex-Ducks’ players the next year or two?
ESPN’s Ed Werder reports the trade sending CB Byron Maxwell and WLB Kiko Alonso to the Dolphins is “considered dead.”
The two teams also would be swapping first-round picks with the Eagles getting the Dolphins’ No. 8 overall pick and Miami moving down to No. 13. It was pure highway robbery by Eagles GM Howie Roseman just to get Dolphins czar Mike Tannenbaum to take the contracts of Maxwell and Alonso. It appears after a couple days of thought that Tannenbaum is smartening up and getting out of this one. The reason the deal is on life support is allegedly the Dolphins’ concern with Maxwell’s shoulder.
This is one case where the Internet and 21st century media almost inevitably had a huge impact on this potential trade. It got lambasted just about everywhere including little support in Miami.

He really wasn’t where it’s at
great so i’m counting on eskin for something
lol
Eskin used to be almost dead on with Eagles’ rumors and broke a ton of big Eagles’ stories over the years including about their possibility of relocating to Arizona.
Just doesn’t seem to have the same connections anymore and gets a lot of stuff wrong/inaccurate especially on details of transactions or player personnel moves.
Let’s see if Eagles had to throw in a pick…
I told you guys this Albright guy was the real deal. One of the best follows on Twitter.
Let’s wait if the compensation is confirmed.
Turns out BM slipped on a banana peel getting off the plane, and as a result the trade went from a swap of 1st round picks to a swap of 4ths.

As the daily life of an Eagles fan goes.
Maxwell cleared by Dolphins!!!
Kelly sure knew how to find characters.
But “character”?
Maxwell? Seriously?
Maxwell strikes me as a good guy off the field. Not unlike a couple other former Eagle’s DBs Asomugha and Allen.
So being that Iloka just re-uped with Cincy, who would everyone’s next target be? Mines is still Gipson.
After reading a few write-ups, mine would be McLeod or Abdul-Quddus.
If you had told me we give Maxwell and Kiko (to get them to take Maxwell), I would think we get back a 7th. Seriously. Now granted my day job is not the NFL, but if Howie gets to move up from 13 to 8, wow. Just wow. I don’t care about Daniels etc., this right here would gold, Jerry, gold.
so the Dolphins think their SB window is closing, that’s why they are making these moves?
No, their “making the playoffs” window.
Apparently, this trade is related to national women’s day. They’re trying to get rid of a player’s crazy wife.
who, a CB and that’s why they need Maxwell?
That’s what I read somewhere about Grimes.
Chris Wittyngham @ChrisWittyngham 25m25 minutes ago
Schefter also confirms on TV that it’s a first round pick swap for the Dolphins and Eagles. Dolphins move from 8 to 13
So that’s it compensation wise?!
Maxwell is more about the salary dump and Schwartz does not think highly of Kiko
Dude I know. I was just checking because most fans expected more. Unlike me, who’s totally happy with the 1st round swap.
We’re happy about it
Haven’t seen too many folks crushed over compensation but I guess you have…. thanks!
You’re very welcome.
Also if you had followed my posts recently you would have seen that I didn’t expect more than a 5th rounder in this trade scenario. So I guess I am a very happy camper now.
Nope. Didn’t follow. Glad you’re a happy camper though!
Thats IT? Ummm, idk but if it is, it’s fine with me. What did you wanna do, keep our #13 and get their #8?
See below. Thanks.
According to the NFL value chart those 5 spots in first round is equivalent to a high third round pick FWIW.
Under the new CBA, early picks are worth more, so more like mid 2nd
no 4th round pick? howie is a failure.
Maxwell and Murray both had a bad attitude since the day they were signed. See ya!
So with the 8th pick, thats the Goff/Elliott territory. If niners go Goff I assume we go Elliott, or Ronnie Stanley at OT?
I live in Ohio and am an OSU fan. Zeke is a beast…but I’m just skeptical of drafting a RB that high. In my opinion he better be hall of fame worthy to be picked that high. Too many good running backs drafted late for me to like it.
Yea RBs scare me that high too, would rather OT; its just such a boring pick.
I agree. I’m ok with it though. I don’t care who they pick, just hit a homerun.
with the 8th we can move up to take a QB if we want, while only paying an arm instead of an arm and a leg.
I google’d pictures of one arm, some funny most were sad. Then I felt bad, and sad so I didnt post a picture of a person with one arm.
thank you for making that decision
Intelligence is knowing what you can say. Wisdom is knowing whether you should say it or not. Well played.
Can’t see the Eagles buying high on a RB.
Contradicts 15 years of Eagles’ front-office philosophy under
Modrack, Modrack/Reid, Reid/Heckert, Reid/Roseman.
The Eagles in that period put a 1st-Round premium on:
– Offensive linemen
– Defensive linemen
– Cornerbacks
And they grabbed a great QB at the top of the ’99 draft and were set for a decade.
_____________
Jason Peters is a year or so away from being let go.
Bradford’s on a 1-year deal, if the Eagles want to play it that way.
The last thing the Eagles need is a RB — especially with how successful KC’s offense was with a bunch of no-name RBs after losing HB Jamaal Charles (who himself was 3rd Rd pick).
he’s a bit more then just a rb though, the guy has hands and can take over a game I think
would break many many things if they take a running back at 8
is it official now, can I be momentarily happy?
4pm before anything can be official I think. Reports that Max’s shoulder tables Miami trade, though I don’t see it discussed here and have been busy so who knows.
that’s old news. trade announced.
Usually only allow this site to limit my productivity at work lol. Good to know.
and did we trade Murray, is that official and what did we get if anything? A 6 pack would do it for me, anything more is gravy.
Id take just gravy
6 pack of gravy?
https://twitter.com/GeoffMosherNFL/status/707602950869356544
Awesome if true.
howie!
Oh jeez was hoping for better, but moving up 12 spots is decent i guess.
James —
Actually, Eagles move up 13 spots.
From 15th to 2nd.
Is it 2nd, not 1st? Should have looked it up. Still good in my mind, but I like that 1st pick on day three.
I didn’t have high expectations given the Murray contract and play. I love the fact that we will be the first pick in day 3. We will have tons of time to regroup from the first two days, then decide if a guy slipped through the three rounds. Even better, you gain a unique position to negotiate all night with other teams of you want to trade back.
Iskar36:
Eagles would get 2nd pick in Rd 4.
Titans and Browns finished with the same record, so they rotate picks . . . etc
Got it. Responded above, but thanks for the info.
Good info. Thanks as always sir.
wow. Howie GM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chip GM
Eagles move from 15th pick to 2nd pick in Rd 4.
Gain 34 points on the trade chart.
Shedding his contract is more than enough.
RNE . . .
Totally agree.
Swapping 7th round picks would have been fine.
So basically that’s like a late 3rd right?
Titans have the second pick in the 4th round, so it would be like the 1st pick (after 3rd round comps) in a year the Patriots don’t cheat, yes 😉
Ok everyone… I would formally like to apologize for blasting this move. I was proven wrong in compensation as I really had hoped I would be. Really I always sort of expected it to be good, since Howie is just a boss that way.
Happy to be wrong. I am a fan, very reactionary, and grumpy as hell sometimes. Not to mention the whole Sam Bradford trade which is still a serious head scratcher.
Interesting I don’t see people talking about the PFT post that says its pretty much a lock this trade is not going to happen due to Max’s shoulder.
i think we’re all a bit too experienced to give pft any weight
Was going to blame you (jokingly) if it fell through.
I guess I sort of hedged my bets there. Assumed the worst and hoped for the best. That way if I was right…at least I was right!
So we don’t gain any new picks, but move up 5 spots in the 1st and 13 spots in the 4th to offload a bunch of bad contracts attached to a couple unlikeable guys that never fit in Philly.
This all works for me.
no SHouting?
THIS ALBRIGHT GUYS IS A FRAUD, HE SAID WE’D GET A 4TH, I’M SO TIRED OF THE MEDIA BEING SO DUMB.
on the button
With the Tenn trade do we now have three 4th rd picks?
We swapped. No.
Ok, I see we just swapped fourth rd picks with them
Birds only have a single pick in Rd 4.
By the trade chart . . .
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/draft/draft-trade-chart/
(1) Eagles can easily get up to JAX’s spot at No. 5 — if Jags wanna deal — by packaging Detroit’s 3rd (pick 205) and the Titans’ 4th (pk 98).
(2) Eagles could move up to San Diego’s spot at 3 — Chargers rumored to want to move down — but most likely requires packaging 2017’s 1st Rd pick.
Don’t see Roseman parting with next year’s 1st unless a QB the Eagles covet — in the sort of deeply sinful way the Bible proscribes — is available.
Don’t forget the possibility of trading back. I suspect that recouping a 2nd rounder after the Bradford trade is high on Roseman’s wish list. As always, there’s great value in round 2.
Chicago and New Orleans could desire a QB or a falling D-line stud. Also, after their own success with large receivers and getting destroyed by Megatron for years, the Bears may not be able to resist hometown talent Laquon Treadwell…
So – you’re saying — the Eagles made a trade to move up — just to move back?
It’s the illusion of movement.
so who’s the most likely target now at #8 for the Birds?
Stanley? a QB?
Jack?
Ramsey looks out of reach.
I would think Stanley, Jack, or VH3.
CB Hargreaves III. great catch.
forgot about him.
OT or CB or QB seems like the play
better be IMPACT player…
They will trade down. There is nobody that high who is good enough
Max, Murray, and Kik

Eagles and QB Chase Daniel agreed in principle on multi-year deal, per @caplannfl and me. Daniel reuniting with Doug Pederson.
Bye bye, Butt-Fumble.
Right!!
https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/707608251811151873
And Jeff Allen apparently going to the Giants. Absolutely critical that we add at least 1 OG this off-season since all of our own OGs are horrible. Similarly, adding more than 1 might not be a bad idea.
I was hoping he was coming here
I don’t see that anywhere besides they and many interested . .Link?
I love Free Agency!!! Let’s go BIRDS!!!!
Bye bye Sanshite!
the Sanchise is no more?
is this true? can he have a hot dog on the way out?
He’s been downgraded from chicken tenders to a hot dog? That’s harsh man.
Wait a second – brain bomb – chicken tenders served in a hot dog bun! Like when the peanut butter and the chocolate trucks collided…
nope – hot dog served in chicken tenders!
Yes! Now we’re cooking! The power of “yes and” people!
hey, hebrew national is pretty freaking good
If you haven’t had the pleasure, you should check out a Sechrist Brother’s hot dog. It was named the official hot dog of Bill Clinton’s presidency, and I can say from lots of personal experience that it’s totally worth spending a bit extra. Not sure how hard it is to get outside York county PA though.
It will be interesting if they target a QB in the draft. You wonder if they are looking at Seattle as a model to find a QB.
Bradford turns 29 in Nov 2016.
Daniel turns 30 in Oct 2016.
If not now when?
*If* Chip is watching this climb, does he regret the decision to put Howie in the broom closet? Or, is he too busy looking at that Rembrandt and trying to recreate it in water color?
Good metaphor. Very chiaroscuro.
GREAT word.
At 1:00pm (or so) . . .
Benjamin Allbright will be on 97.5.
It’s Allbright now…

This may have already been posted but I saw that Dallas and Seattle are interested in Thornton, and that his market is heating up
good for Ced. we can’t pay him what he could make elsewhere
Nelson algohlor and freddie Mitchell bboth had 283 yards receiving and 1 TD their rookie seasons. . The eagles’ 2015 draft will go down as the worst in nfl history.
Now this is a troll who does his research. I can applaud a hard working troll.
didn’t he lose a bet re: Bradford and have to leave town?
yup
i was wondering how long it was gonna last
weren’t you supposed to leave this site after Bradford was re-signed?
didn’t he make a lot of bets with a lot of different people? lol
Solid.
I’ll take it. Lets hope the birds can land a guard next.
Oooooooooh SHEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIT!
Howie you’re a fucking god!
Howie is on fire. This is ridiculous.
is he good?
well is Thurmond the other? Did we get better or just switch players or what?
Sounds like a totally different skill set.
McLeod is a natural free safety so I feel he is an upgrade over Thurmond who just learned the position. This also frees up Jenkins to continue manning the slot and gives Schwartz the option to stay in base against 3 WR sets.
Kempski profiled Iloka first, McLeod second, and Husain Abdullah third in his safety targets in free agency.
http://www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-free-agency-primer-15-players-who-could-be-interest/
i love thurmond but i guess they wanted a different kind of dude back there
From Tommy:
Rodney McLeod – Rams – Love watching this guy play. Lacks ideal size at 5-10, 195, but he is a big hitter. Had 3 FFs last year (8 in his career). Rams tend to line him up deep. Comes down aggressively vs the run. Finished third on the team in tackles. Also shows good range in the pass game. Could be a great value signing.
I like McLeod but that is a lot of money for him. Have to see the structure. The $17M guaranteed could be in the first 3 seasons with high bases in years 4 or 5 that easy to get out of. $17M guaranteed isn’t a lot.
To be fair, we don’t know yet whether the $37 million is in American currency…
BIT COIN
Coinye West. (oops I shouldn’a said that).
Don’t care about money anymore. you don’t earn it – HR ships you off anyway…
Average out to about 7,5/tear which seems quite fair for a player of McCleouds level. Well beneath the Thomas’ and Berry’s 10/year, and a little less than Malcolm Jenkins’ contract. Seems right since McCleod isn’t Berry/Thomas and are maybe just a smudge more unproven than Jenkins but played to a similar-ish level.
Most Roseman contracts (really, most NFL contracts) can be gotten out of after two years. Or, with a trade, after one year after he just proved with Maxwell and Murray. No way this contract is as punishing as those. “guaranteed” might involve not-fully-guaranteed roster bonuses in year three as well. I’m sure there is a decent signing bonus, and fully-guaranteed first-year salary, and probably some second-year salary.
wtf! yay
Mcleod 82 Tkls 3 FF 1 INT last year.
Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing Eagles news.
boy if Howie were a football guy and not just a contracts guy he really could have made some moves today.
Yeah seriously we need a real football man to get in here and get some deals done.
Let’s not count chickens….long road ahead…
I have to wait until they win a SB to judge moves? screw that. Trading Maxwell and Murray >> signing Maxwell and Murray.
we celebrate every March….last year we were celebrating the best rb in all of nfl…
we celebrate so rarely that I am taking any opportunity to do so, and this counts.
Wet Wednesday?
Who gives a crap about teens tossing a round ball at a stationary target? This is the REAL March Madness.
would you be happier if march AND january sucked?
March is good. Before we name a street in Philly called Howie Roadsman(see what I did there) — we need results in Jan — not March…
Roadsman. Yes.
I’m forever scarred by the “Dream Team” offseason.
Platinum standard.
Good deal
Never understood the Sanchez signing last year. Glad he’s gone.
You kidding right? I know Sanchez sucks as a starter, but at least he can play in the NFL and give you just a smudge of a chance.
You need that when you’re QB is Sam Bradford.
no, I’m not kidding. You said it — sucks as a starter — so why carry him if his job is to START when Bradford goes down?
it’s true sanchez loses games
With what you are saying then why does any team carry a backup QB if said persons job is only to start when the starter goes down? You need a quality backup in this league, hence the Sanchez signing.
jeff garcia. now THERE was a damn backup
Damn right.
amen!
Again — Sanchez is not quality. He’s the new Vinnie Testiverde(however you spell it). ANYBODY can come in and do what he did. IF he was one iota of ANY talent to win any games — why would HR get rid of him?
He was OK as a starter in 2014. You would rather not start over with a new QB if you’re a coach, and he was going to be one of the better backups on the market. So yes, it made sense. It was discouraging that he didn’t improve, and that the defense absolutely went to pieces as soon as he came in — not sure how to read that part. But I’m much happier with a backup QB who knows the system (and that is Daniels now).
You knew it was coming
That “most invested” number is meaningless.
I haven’t done the math, because why, but I’m sure you can go to most position groups on most NFL teams and say the same every season.
especially with the cap rising each year. players are going to get more money each year, these sort of milestones don’t really mean much
Hmmm, so most fans are happy with this McLeod signing? That doesn’t bode well…
nm, i thought you were talking about the Bills CB
We’re expecting Andre, wrapped in Wes, cloaked in Brian.
so we’ll get coleman, wrapped in jarret, cloaked in marlin jackson, wearing macho harris, with a quintin demps hat on
i was worried there would be some Jarrad Page mixed in. phew!
You beat me to it!. Good job on the reference.
He’s a good pickup, not sexy but he plays well and I think he was the best safety fpr us after Illoka, never thought about him too much because I didn’t think we’d be in the market for a good safety
Allbright on 95.7 right now.
12:57pm
according to allbright, we lost the 4th round pick because of the shoulder issues.
i hate you maxwell
Believable maybe or he’s covering his ass. But I never thought we’d get swap so I’m ok with it .
I was feeling leery about 13 with the way the top of the draft seems shaping up. Feels like a place where someone will be picking “the best of the rest.”
Exactly. The dreaded “drop off” point where talent levels out for 20 picks…
The drop-off point is actually after pick 21.
Traditionally, it’s whatever our pick is, minus one.
You think there’s that much top shelf talent this year?
Figured. May also have been due to the public reaction after the leaked deal, and they made up concerns about the shoulder to threaten the deal. So maybe we can blame Allbright instead 😉
Allbright also mentioned a deal-gone-bad 2 years ago that left some hard feelings.
Didn’t say the players or who was responsible.
Was it the Dion Jordan for B-Graham deal?
Some other trade?
Who pulled the plug?
Hrmm. Eagles had deal in place for dolphins pick but realized no one above them would draft Dion and back out. Dolphins pick Dion to spite them. Boom.
Fun speculation.
Dolphins were picking like 12 originally. They traded up to 3.
Yeah, but that move seemed so ridiculous, it’s conceivable there was an Eagles part of that which we backed out of. Maybe they wanted Lane Johnson and we were only OK with it if we got Dion Jordan, but then decided to keep Johnson instead. Or something nefarious like that 🙂
But per above Allbright said two years ago, and the Jordan / Johnson draft was three years ago, so that’s not it. There were rumors for quite a while that we were going to trade for Jordan (possibly using Graham) two years ago, but nothing ever came of it — but maybe it got closer than we knew.
I mean it only cost them a 3 to move all the way up. And they jumped us. There’s no conceivable way it involved the Eagles. They are just a dysfunctional franchise.
The hurt feelings probably involved the 2014 draft. They were picking 19, we were picking 22. They stayed put and took a T that was considered a fringe top 40 guy. We missed out on everything. I’d imagine Howie had a price to trade up with them and then when they saw what people were getting they jacked it up and pissed off Howie.
Yeah, from Allbright’s comment it was clearly the 2014 draft at issue. Or something leading up to the draft. It could be something like you mention, or something involving Dion Jordan. Not enough detail to really speculate, but I think your scenario probably makes the most sense — the Eagles wanted to trade up to ensure getting one of their six targets, and I could easily see the Dolphins pulling out of a pre-negotiated deal once the value of trade-ups escalated during that draft.
I wonder if that was part of the Eagles front office friction — Kelly may have wanted to do the trade anyways, where Roseman thought the new asking price was too high and went for value (trade-down then MSII).
Other people have disputed this. Guess we’ll never really know.
https://twitter.com/PFF_NateJahnke/status/707627890540732417
Agreeing with the moves. Not sure why eagles are so eager to deal Ryan Mathews though…
Either Pederson does not like that style of runner, or maybe the Eagles didn’t think they could trade Murray and the rumor predated that trade. I’m sort of hoping for the latter.
allbright said the eagles are intent on trading him for, and i quote, “a ham sandwich.”
There goes that hope 😉
damn. was hoping for at least a turkey & provolone. oh well. lunch is lunch.
They probably want a feature back that is more dependable. I like Mathews too, but he’s a luxury when you need to sign a second RB to pair with him who you are comfortable giving a lot of carries.
So by swapping 4th rounders with the Titans in exchange for Murray, we’ll get the second pick of that round. Meaning – if we don’t trade it – we’ll have the second pick of the day on Saturday… which makes for fun discussion Friday night.
Howie loves the 1st pick of the 4th round!
Probably pissed he could only get up to the 2nd this year.
It’s going to keep him up at night for sure.
That sets up some bonafide Littlefinger action.
EDIT: I just re-read that, and I feel I should apologize.
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again:
It is *really* nice to have an adult back in charge of the Eagles.
i’m happy with everything so far.
assuming Sanchez is on his way out… haven’t heard official news.
once we get some OL help, i’ll be VERY happy with howie’s start to his takeover.
Gotta be a trade in the works for sanchize right?
It turns out that Chip Kelly’s greatest failure was not his lack of ability to evaluate players, but his inability to evaluate executives.
i dunno his playcalling turned to pretty rank shit
Now we have
McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Leodis McKelvin and Rodney McLeod
Another QB? Is that signing definite?
Yes they signed McLeod Bethel-Thompson a month or 2 ago.
I had not heard of that signing, thanks for the info.
thats a lot of irish (scottish?)
now we just need this guy:
http://www.blastr.com/sites/blastr/files/images/highlander_1.jpg
That wont work, there can be only one.
I was beaten in the race of corn.
or how about this irish R&B singer?
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519ePr2cgkL.jpg
yea, he might be old, but i think he can still hang with the young’uns.
unless you ruin the movie with Highlander 2. I won’t ruin the first movie for you all. But you know a sequel is bad when it completely changes the premise of the first movie and why there are immortals among us.
Yes I’m still mad.
Still on the shopping list:
OG
Another CB
SAM (Whitehead, Bradham)
Cheap vet WR (wait for someone to get cut or fall through the cracks no reason to jump that market)
Draft (not in order)
QB
CB
OT
RB
OG
LB
DT
DE
We have to be shopping Sanchez right? Only reason he hasn’t been released is because we save an extra 1M on the cap by trading him.
C’mon howie! land that 2024 7th rounder.
anyone post this yet http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2617744-chase-daniel-to-eagles-latest-contract-details-comments-and-reaction
If he costs less than Sanchez then it’s a no-brainer. Hopefully it’s no more than than.
i’d be willing to invest a bit more for a superior product. i don’t know daniel well enough to know if he’s better but he can’t be worse
I am expecting him to be a bit more than Sanchez. Waiting for details of this contract.
Think so too,. And years from now, the best baclup on the market will make more than both Chase and Sanchez
More not-so surprising news about Kelly-the-GM:
____________
can we hire chip and fire him again please
Sanchez just turned his head and giggled.
“When’s the prostate exam, coach?”
And yes, that’s my second prostate joke in as many days.
wtf??
I’m sure someone has said this already somewhere on this board, but it is REALLY nice to have a GM who understands when you do not like a certain player, you can still get value for him.
shout out to . . .
MKSP.
maybe that was 30-year old Marynowitz’s job
Just imagine what we had gotten for DeSean and LeSean? If you translate this year’s compensation for less talent, you’ll probably have received 4 1st rounders for those two guys. lol
I’m not even demanding huge value. But guys like Mathis or DeSean who were cut due to big salaries did have at least some trade value. If you don’t air out all your issues with that player in the media and at least attempt to show that there is some willingness to keep them (see reports that immediately followed early stories about Murray not wanting to be back her), you can get value.
It’s almost as if in the marketplace that is professional sports, players are assets, assets that derive their value from, among other variables, their performance, money they are owed, and PUBLIC PERCEPTION THAT CAN BE IMPACTED BY YOU, YES YOU, THE HEAD COACH OF THE TEAM.
I truly believe that Chip would have just released Murray if he were still the GM.
If this were Chip those would be cuts, wouldn’t they?
Murray for sure in my opinion.
He does believe in one-cut runners…
http://www.phillymag.com/birds247/2016/03/09/eagles-at-no-8-a-new-set-of-options/#more-3083356
shower me in mock drafts
Just a Q to you guys, if DeSean gets cut, shall the Eagles bring him back?
No thanks. If they want to sign a veteran receiver, go with one with some class that would actually help the younger guys like Anquan Boldin or someone similar.
probably
Not interested. Is he getting cut?
Think redskins GM said he was staying.
Don’t think so, so it would be a big “IF”…
I’d be down
No
is he super cheap and ok with being a role player?
https://t.co/JOxSWaCvmy
HEADACHE #23
#15 yards… lets hope that doesn’t happen too much.
our defense is getting scary now that Rodney is back there!
Chase Daniel highlights
https://youtu.be/kEW8_KVhDFE
If we can end up trading Sanchez for whatever, instead of cutting him, this becomes a real nice move.. A Backüp our coach Trusts, knows well, who knows the offense and Pederson talked about how Chase is a guy that really cares about helping the starting QB prepare for each game. Im sure he can help groom our rookie QB… Trading sanchez and going with SAM and Chase was my ideal scenario, if we can get a QB without using the #8 position, they will have delivered everything I wanted to see from the QB position..
..
So far so Good..
Damn, the new safety is a former Wahoo. Wahoowa!
you too?
Yep, I think Rob on here is one, too.
me 3.
go hokies but in this case i’ll pretend
Rodney McLeod is 25 y/o, despite his smaller-than-average size is a huge hitter (look up the video of him laying out Emmanuel Sanders) while still being a good cover guy, and was rated the 10th best safety in the NFL last year by Pro Football Focus. Nice signing.
So…..thurmond is a fa?
or a cb
So like moves so far.
Things left on my shopping list for the main part of the off season:
Find me a guard, resign Carroll, sign a cheap SAM, trade Sanchize to 49ers day 3 pick.
add in a couple of cheap special teamers and we should be good to go into the draft and 2016.
“ROCKIN Rod” McLeod knocking blocks off in the back of our NO FLY ZONE.. Whooooo !!!!
..
How does it feel to have two NFL safeties boys? Whoooo
..
This Defense so desperately Need a HITTER to bring some physicality to the Linc, and we got our Man!
..
Jeff McLane asked a scout if ROCKIN Rod was Physical, the scout said “He’s Tough as shit! no Fear”..
anybody else notice a difference in the spider charts of our acquisitions versus what chip seemed to look for? it’s nice to have a personnel guy who isn’t looking for basketball players
Yeah Chip seemed to have a weakness for the “looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane” types. Overlooked the fact that some of the best players in NFL history at their respective positions tested as too small/slow/short/etc.
chip would have passed on Ray Lewis
Lewis is one of the guys I was thinking of with that previous comment. Others who were very good-to-great players but would’ve been off Chip’s draft board because of lack of elite measurables: John Randle, Dwight Freeney, Zach Thomas, Elvis Dumervil, Darrell Green, Jerry Rice, Blaine Bishop, Derrick Brooks, John Lynch. He seemed to forget that NFL players play football, not compete in the decathlon or Mr. Universe contest.
These RB contracts are insane.
5 years $35M for Doug Martin, resigning
get paper son
Like the player, not the deal.
That’s insane. Other than somebody like Peterson or Gurley who’s truly a transcendent talent, I don’t think any RB is worth more than $5 million/year. There are just too many guys capable of giving you good production at a lower price.
Id rather invest high draft picks in RBs, than to invest what they are starting to get paid in FA
This is why I wanted to get rid of Murray and ryan Mathews (even tho he can play) and just start fresh with a Franchise Back like ZEKE who we control on a rookie contract for 5 years..
Now that is some interesting optionality… imagine if we trade him to the Broncos…. for their 31st pick. Wait till draft day (we pay an extra 5.5 not doing it earlier but that just further helps his trade value making the contract closer to 15mil a year for the Broncos), we get to jump up get our QB without people knowing we need one, and then trade for that late 1st.
LOL figures this is a MIKE Florio post
Mike Florio is the worst, take everything and anything he says with a grain of salt.
“reports indicate the Eagles are trading Bradford” soon to come, based on this report that saying nothing of the sort.
The ability of speculation to be reported as rumor/fact is something I’ll never get over in this new media age.
I wake up and find out that the Illoka dream is dead 🙁
And the McCleod era begins. Still a great signing of a quality player.
I feel your pain, but ROCKIN Rod ISNT a bad consolation prize by any means
Very true. We finally have a hard hitter again in our backfield. Who was the last DB to lay the wood on someone? Sheldon Brown?
Sheldon, a friggin CB from like a decade ago… How sad is that… Heck when was the last time we had two Legit NFL safeties? Even better, we may actually have our safety tandem for the Next few years fingers crossed..
..
Thurmond was a nice find, but he was temporary and more CB than Safety!!
Loving what Schwartz is trying to do already. The hit on Reggie Bush is legendary.
Yeah man… If he gets us a LB, and manages to bring Nolan. thurmond or Boykin back at CB, I can’t ask for much more than that..
.
Of course Draftong Myles Jack at #8 also Intruigs me
Yep. Slobberknockers aren’t walking 15 yard penalties and liabilities. Just ask DJ Swearinger.
How dare you try to reason that entertainment is bad even if it hurts the team!
*And players and the future of the sport.
Are you actually David Molk in disguise?
Kurt Coleman
I think I’d actually rather have McLeod. Still a big hitter, but also very good in coverage.
Under the FWIW column . . .
Schwartz’s CBs — at TN, DET, BUFF — were nearly always under 6’00.
Usually, 5’10” or 5’11”.
Guys like Courtland Finegan, Chris Houston, Andre Dyson, Eric Wright, Leodis McKelvin.
The only CBs at 6’00” or taller he inherited — like Bills CB Stephon Gilmore.
Since Schwartz has a much better track record of fielding good NFL defenses than Billy Davis or Chip Kelly, I’ll trust him on the implication that having guys over 6’0″ doesn’t matter that much.
if there’s no big people – who beats up the little people?
Darius Slay: 6’1
Rashean Mathis: 6’1
Anthony Henry: 6’1
Michael Griffin: 6’0 (played CB rookie year)
Corey Graham: 6’0
Ross Cockrell: 6’0
Stephone Gilmore: 6’0
His CBs have to be well rounded due to his diverse coverage calls. The prototype would be someone like Kyle Fuller.
Hopefully we see a Quality starting Guard signed today, along with Nigel Bradham or Whitehead…. Lock up a LB and a G and I’ll be pretty pumped
https://twitter.com/christomasson/status/707643902581481472
GOD BLESS THE JAGS!!! Signed Olivier Vernon, kept the edge rusher off the Giants! Teams in the jags divisions better build up their OL. The Jags are coming
..
Now we have to hope Seahawks up their offer for Cedrick Thornton and keep him out of Dallas
Shefty says that was bad Info and that there is no deal with Vernon yet.. Still talking to multiple teams.. Step your offer up Jags
Really really hoping the Texans steal Osweiler, forcing ELWAY to trade for Kapernick, which hopefully opens up a Sanchez to the Niners trade
We got little value for the Murray trade but the value of peace of mind in the locker room is worth more than that.
And dropping the contract
His contract doesn’t seem all that bad if he could return to form. That’s a big IF.
We got the value of a 5th. That’s more than I would have expected. That’s worth one Darren Sproles.
and one Brandon Boykin
So I am estimating that we still have about 13-16M in cap space, and a bit more when Sanchez is released or traded. We still need 2 OG (one with Tackle versatility), OLB, CB1 and depth, WR depth, RB depth. Some of these I expect to be addressed in the draft, but I would expect at least 1 Guard and OLB. I definitely would not be surprised to see another trade or two over the next few weeks though.
The dream draft scenario IMO
Trade up to 5 and take Ronnie Stanley
Stay at 8 and draft Hargreaves
Trade back and take the best DL/OL/WR/CB
If Hargreaves is the best option at 8 then the Eagles need to explore every option to trade down. Too many quality corners to be had in the later rounds to take a corner at 8.
None of them are guaranteed to be available for us to pick.
Stanley is not a top 5 player. Top 4 talents are Tunsil, Ramsey, Bosa, Jack. The 2 QB’s go in the top 7 (including 1 at 2), and then you are into the next tier of prospects.
You sir are insane.
Bosa is very overrated.
Im thinking Eagles dont draft a QB or S at no.8 now.. QB top 3 round though..
People laughed at me for my thoughts re Bradford still subject to a possible trade. Now where’s smoke..
There’s either a tasty meal cooking or no meal at all?
There’s no smoke; there’s an article describing his contract. That’s it.
Mike Florio is not smoke. Unless you count places where he started the fire. You’re better than him 😉
https://twitter.com/Rand_Getlin/status/707657972860596224
So who’s Damon Harrison?
He no Fletcher Cox, but he’s a good player
Previously the third member of Jets SONS of Anarchy DL (Wilkerson, Richardson, Harrison)
NO. 1 graded DL by PFF at 91.3 but 577 snaps so kind of a half the time player. Huge at 350 so we need some beef on OL probably.
We needed to beef up our interior OL for quite some time now. So the Giants have 2 NTs starting.
there’s a reason teams don’t do that.
https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/707658558167506944
Osweiler to Texans. Now we watch Kaep go to Broncos paving the way for Chip to pay us for Sanchez
Bradford -> Broncos, better option than Kaep and we are now in striking room for a top 2 QB.
Chip and Kaep could be McDaniels and Cutler drama all over again. Please stay in San Francisco Kaep, Chip deserves some karma.
God I hope your right. Can’t believe Osweiler left, he must’ve been pissed they let manning start in the playoffs
Anyone have a clear picture of what our cap situation is like after these recent moves?
https://twitter.com/Rand_Getlin/status/707659184607617024
Broncos can come get them some Sanchise!
Or Bradford! We can technically easily trade him because we haven’t paid any of his SB yet. Even though we’d be on books for his SB on our cap this year because of technicalities we’d be credited back with it on the 2017 cap.
For their first round pick? Bradford can’t look all that bad with 2 pro bowl/All pro WRs and an actual defense.
yeah so trading him would be a mistake, right?
On the bright side, he wouldn’t be our mistake.
That’s nonsense. Why would we trade with team picking so late.
We can just give the Broncos a package of Fletcher Cox, Bradford, and maybe throw in Jordan Mathews while we are at it
Sanchez for 1st. Chalk it up, and hurry before they realize it’s not Bradford.
im sure this has been read about zeke:
http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2016/3/8/11177488/2016-nfl-draft-ezekiel-elliott-scouting-report-ohio-state-running-back-franchise-player
https://t.co/JOxSWaCvmy
Kempski said he got tagged for hitting a defenseless receiver on that play.
Lol. I don’t mind. He’s not dirty. Give em something to think about when crossing that middle.
He did, but I don’t care. It’s the way football should be played. The defenseless receiver rule is the one I dont get. Yeah, he’s on offense! Lol. I understand the helmet-to-helmet stuff. But might as well put flags on these guys…
Yes!!! Thank you Texans! WOW WOW WOW! You know that Texans defense is HAPPY!
.
ELWAY got GOT!
…
Hoping the Broncos trade for Kapernick..
..
Forcing Chip to Draft Goff and trade for Sanchez
..
While a stud like Jack, ZEKE, Stanley fall to #8
..
However Fitzpatrik is a wild card, and he has the same agent as Osweiler
..
Lol how the hell did ELWAY end up with No QB? They are in danger of wasting a STACKED defense
Well considering we may be in the market for a round 1 QB not sure we want Chip getting Goff
Regardless of Denver’s situation . . .
Kaepernick was never staying in SF.
A completely false scenario.
I see what you are saying, but I don’t think the Broncos wasted a stacked defense. They just won the Super Bowl. The Seahawks defense was just as good in 2014 after they won the SB and they didn’t repeat. Its extremely hard to repeat as SB champs. Everyone is gunning for you.
Osweiler didn’t light it up when he was starting.
Texans got Osweiler and Lamar Miller. Guess we don’t win the FA Super Bowl this year
You could see, when the Broncos tagged Miller, that this could happen.
It’s why I didn’t understand Bradford not testing FA.
On the other hand, maybe Bradford signed a 1-year+option with the Eagles because . . .
No one in the Denver or Houston front offices thought much of his final 7 games.
Hence, no market for him.
Or maybe he wasn’t lying during his press conference and really did make a connection with his teammates and liked the fanbase and had no desire to test the free agent market.
Dave . . .
Could be. I take at face value the locker room stuff.
The 1-year-plus-option structure of the deal, though, suggests both sides are proceeding with caution.
If the market were better for SB, I think he’d have tried FA. Basing that on the 1+ deal.
Lamar Miller to Texans – 4 years, $26M
https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/707660646498902017
Also Kaep, Brian Hoyer, and Fitzpatrick still out there I believe
Lol from the brilliant Cerebral Football mind Peyton, to underdeveloped low IQ football bird-brains Like KAp or Bob Griffin? Talk about a fall from grace. Looks like ELWAY sold his soul to devil for that Super Bowl in, and the Devil is now Collecting!
Brandon Brooks to Eagles – 5 years, $40M.
That’s a lot of coin. Perfect fit though. Experience in zone system but a bigger guy that also has power. Getting paid more on potential though. Has frame, athleticism to be great but has only been good plus to this point.
this has been one hell of a 24 hours!
What!?
Elite guard money, but oh well. Is he the highest ranked behind Osemele?
3rd highest paid guard. Osemele is now a LT for the Raiders, so his money makes sense for elite LT money.
Most rated either him or Alex Boone as the #2 guard with Jeff Allen also in the mix. Brooks is younger than Boone and doesn’t have as much of an injury history(not that he hasn’t missed games) as Allen.
Damnnnnnnnn
So much for Obriens alleged Hackenberg man crush! 99% he would have been available in round 1 for them.
.
Hopefully the Texans steal Lamar Miller from Dallas. I want them to significantly overshadow Dallas as the best team in Texas
Lamar did sign with the Texans!
hahahaha
Thank you sir!!! Fuck the Cowboys!
..
Now I need seattle to sign CedrickThornton and keep him out of Dallas!
Hackenberg is atrocious.
We just got our Guard Boys!!! HOWIE keeps stealing BALLERS from the Texans In free Agency..
..
Nigel Bradham or Tahir are NEXT!!, E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
I don’t know too much about Brooks, how good is he?
good enough that he’s a guard and i’ve heard of him, haha
GOOD! Probably Better than the Lazy Jeff Allen connection who no one would want if our Coach didmt come from KC
Behemoth of a man with long arms. Surprisingly agile for his size and has been good for quite some time according to what other people are saying.

Texans are giving Brock Osweiler a 4-year, $72 million deal, per source.
Wtf makes the Brad deal look great
it’s 18 per year. same as bradford.
need to see details
Indeed
Depends on guarantee. Same average as Bradford. Might be less than Bradford 1st 2 years and then easily escapable.
Well were spending money :/ just get Nigel or Tahir maybe make another trade and wrap it up
did we get a CB?
McKelvin yesterday
He’s a nickel. He isn’t a starter unless injury.
Bradham, Nolan Carroll and being able to trade Sanchez. And getting at least a 5th for Ryan Mathews would be an amazing week for this franchise
Can I get a salary cap/cox extension (couldn’t resist)/OLB update?
Not really possible until we see how contracts are structured.
True enough. Guess we just trust howie for now
he’s earned a few days of trust
I took some guesses as far as structures. I am estimating around 8-10M in space after Brooks deal. Been playing around at OTC.
If your right Cox may have to wait till next year
Still have trade/release of Sanchez to account for, possible trade of Mathews, and even a surprise trade for someone like Barwin if we can get some value.
I guess if we figure the cap going up is enough to not need any rollover maybe we could still extend our cox
Figuring a 3 mil increase for him, a few mil for the picks and an OLB would be tight
Sanchez and Ryan Mathews money is prob also coming off the books
So probably around 15M then
No need to. He wants top money. He will get a ip money next year when he is franchised and if he gets hurt in the next two years it’s his fault
Fk yes BROOKS!!!
Mark Barron got like 9mil a year to stay with the Rams? ISNT that a lot?
Yes, think they overpaid but had to keep him with their secondary falling apart
Barron actually no longer plays safety. He is the starting OLB for the Rams now.
Oh yes forgot Trumaine is the safety my bad,
Trumaine is gonna get paid
well that’s weird!
Played surprisingly well there last year when he switched positions.

#Texans expect to sign OL Jeff Allen, more offensive help with a lot of holes to fill.
Brooks is a very, very large human being.
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BrooBr00.htm
Stayed healthier than Allen over the same period.
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/A/AlleJe01.htm
Guard Brandon Brooks to EAGLES
Five years $40 million
Damn…is that what mid level starting guards make these days??
FYI Brooks 16th among FA OGs for PFF. Grade 66.7 , 1065 snaps.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/01/11/pro-2016-free-agency-tracker/
Not too inspiring considering we just paid him elite money.
But he’s only 26, still ascending and not injury prone
Does anyone have any toilet paper? Oh wait, I’ll just use PFF’s rankings list.
The joy this comment brings me, I lack the words to properly articulate it.
But Greg,
I know several very nice people who live in the Czech Republic who do these ratings every week.
what team was Brooks on and is he good? great?
Texans and above average starter.
typo, Coach
cuaght it thanks
Coach –
Will you be putting something on REWIND (or here) about the moves Roseman’s made?
Lots of folks here would love to see your analysis, I’m sure.
I’m pretty swamped in real life from now until the draft so we’ll see.
Anything permanent?
No just alot of things to put the bow on before my 25th birthday. Still job hunting.
what are you looking to do and where?
Litterally anything office jobish (yayyy liberal art economics) and somewhere in the Philly, Allentown, West Chester triangle.
I am not there anymore but I’m a big believer in Linkedin and trying to use a connection to get your resume seen, and if you’d like I’d be happy to connect with you. I’d rather not just do that here in front of the troll etc.
Seconded
Texans you mean
Texans. Good and very large man
BIG BOY.. Talk about a Road Grader!! I wanna see ZEKE Run behind this Kid!
..
What’s great is we really Needed to put some serious Girth and Power next to Kelce. Love the Signing! I thought he would end up extended surprised they let him get away
don’t forget how much our new HC likes a fullback. it could get nasty up there
F YEAH! WE GOT BEEF YO!
Seriously, I love this dude’s size. He’s a beast!
https://twitter.com/DZangaroCSN/status/707666206011101184
These words, they are exactly the kind of thing I wanted to hear in FA. Player in prime age wise, and has high ceiling. Can I has Mitchel Schwartz now please?
NOOOOO
he started in the 43 for us but i thought he didn’t become a great player until we switched to 34? i don’t see him as a scary opponent
He was still a solid Eagle and do not want to see him in ‘Allas
That was mostly about him being a small school UDFA. Took him some time to put it together. He’d be a good run stuffing DT for them.
so solid contributor but not a take over the game kind of guy, right?
Correct. He could be like Patterson was for us.
that’s fine. i liked him but it’s not like they’re getting a mandog or something
He won’t cost them a ton and he and Crawford are a solid if unspectacular starting group.
i don’t think it was a bad move for DAL, just not something that has much impact on us. i hope he gets paid
Seattle also has interest.. Hoping they keep him out of Dallas, kind of hoping Dallas blows their money on Chris Long Who is in for a visit
Has anyone else noticed that every guy we have signed has NO injury history? Another little Howie FU to Chip?
just imagine what last offseason must have been like for howie.
Pay money to see video of a hidden camera in Howies office to get to see his raw initial reaction every time he heard one of chips moves announced.
..
Wonder what made him want to rip his hair out the most? Demarco?
or just texting lurie every time with “. . . dude . . . “
last season, when Kelly was signing injured players . . .
a couple of folks here harped on how brilliant Kelly was to exploit the their hidden value.
Now, Kelly’s a dope.
Well, I think it’s been proven Kelly was a dope back then too…
As for the folks on here, we are grown men posting on a football blog, not exactly the next group of MENSA recruits…
Galt . . .
Great post. Well done.
Is it Christmas? LB next?
Matt forte with the Jets
..
Ivory with the Jags
..
Muscle Hamster in Tampa
..
Lamar Miller with the Texans.
..
And dallas continues to be allergic to RBs..
if their O-line was what their fans think it was, wouldn’t some of these FAs be desperate to play there?
Good point
Yeah not sure what they are thinking. Gotta be zeke in the first. Surprised Forte didn’t go with a contender. He might as well retire.
Glad Forte didn’t end up with the Packers, peppers was trying to recruit him.
..
I really don’t want to see ZEKE in a cowboy jersey, running behind that OL.
.
I will let out the loudest cheer when Dallas pick is announced if I don’t hear the names Ramsey, ZEKE or Jack… I don’t want to play against those kids for the next 7 years.. Hopefully they go Bosa or Buckner.
..
They extended Rolondo McClain, Sean Lee stayed relatively healthy, their DE’s are so weak, HOPEFULLY they draft a DE instead of Jack and Ramsey who IMO are as good if not better than every defender in this draft class.
..
No one in our division is really set at RB..
Zeke with pick #4?
Even better if they take overrated Derrick Henry in the 2nd.
That’s what I really want to see… Henrey in Dallas!!!!!!
no $$$$$$$
Arrogance, just put any RB or convict in…
they better not take zeke, but why wouldn’t they?
Guys, just 12 more minutes till Free Agency starts. Wonder if we’ll do anything…
Lol so Ridiculuos that espn does the trade deadline countdown when it means NOTHING TO FANS… More meaningful signings will occur before the start of Free agency than after their silly little countdown..
..
They are really treating 4pm like it’s the countdown to new Years eve
So far so good for the offseason. Time will tell how these moves really grade out, but I’m happy.
the fact that none of them are baffling is a good sign
I think that’s the part I enjoy the most…no, “wait…what?” Reactions.
no “i must be reading this wrong”
4 years, $28M($14M first year between salary and SB) for Allen. Garafolo initially mistakenly tweeted 4 years, $14M.
I know I like McLeod, don’t know much about Brooks but consensus seems to be that it was a good move, and the trade this morning rocked…I’m happy
Good signing, a player I thought was going to be extended by his current team. Pleasant surprise for me
Brooks is listed at 345 lbs
Peters, when happy, plays at about 335 lbs.
Put them both on the left side . . . and run the damn ball
*with something other than the same stecth play over and over again.
just lean on the DL
Brooks is a RG.
You’ve just shattered my dreams.
I aim to please.
how is ZEKE (!!!) gonna get find running room?
oh no. No room for ZEKE(!!!)
That’s someone elses problem because Howie isn’t taking a RB top ten with next years RB class being 10 deep.
PReaCh (!!!)
Top lineman getting $11 to $12M per year, top RBs getting $6.5 to $8M per year, we are most likely drafting OL over RB early.
Yeah Giants have beefy DL with Harrison too so get some beef.
comment of the year, thank you for this image
I’m laughing at this Brock Osweiler contract. Denver picks at 32 and has no QB?
this was always elway’s plan – suit up one more time
Such is life when you build your team through expensive FA
Maybe he’s a good gm, if you don’t think BO is worth $18m a year.
Would you trade Bradford for Denver’s 1st and 3rd, plus a 2nd next year?
Just wondering.
I’ll pack his suitcase for him and send Elway some pizza that isn’t papa johns for that.
Coach —
That makes up for you telling me Brooks is a RG.
hell yes
A:
Considering all the love Elway received for being the GM of the Decade right after the SB, the situation he’s in at the moment is sort of comical.
$9M a year for Mark Barron? That’s crazy.
Yeah it is, think they got desperate with McLeod and Janoris leaving, Trumaine gonna get dat $$$$$$
So you guys think Stanley could still happen at RT of the future pick?
T class isn’t as good as interior OL so if he’s there at 8 very possible.
Don’t you think that Stanley would be more suited for LT?
Perfect world sure but we have Lane, he’s being paid LT money and you can have mirrored T’s. The John Runyans of the world are becoming less common.
Do you like Stanley?
Yes. Still rather we go get a QB.
But the comparisons to the 2010 T class make alot of sense to me with Tunsil = Trent and Stanley = Okung
Coach —
Two questions for you.
First, Stanley, Jack, Hargreaves III are on the board at 8 (no trade up/down).
Who do you select and why?
Second, do you think Stanley could do one good season at LG — like Jonathan Ogden did for the Ravens his rookie year — before kicking over to RT?
[You may have answered this in the past with, “no.” Not 100% sure.]
JACK JACK JACK JACK JACK
Does Jack get past Dallas (#4)?
Jags (#5)?
Ravens (#6)?
Who’s a good comparator for Jack?
People who like Jack use Keuchley or Bowmann.
People who don’t use Alec Ogletree.
I haven’t watched Jack or Hargraves more than casually. And haven’t really ripped Stanley apart.
I think you’d be fine with any of the three (although trade up for Goff is the real answer this was obviously a trick question).
And no I don’t buy Stanley at G. You could do it but it’s square peg round hole.
Sure, why not.. JP probably doesmt have many healthy seasons left in the tank, even if Stanley sits on the bench for a year, that’s a’good thing, not a problem..
..
And with our new Guard signing, even if we draft a tackle Who can’t play Guard, Gardmer, Barbe, Tobin and some 3rd or 4th round Guard competitipn should be able to provide a capable starter opposite of Brooks..
..
Also, Today Jason Peters might be able to scoff at moving to Guard because he is “the best we have at LT”, but he loves being an eagle and seems to really want to retire here, and he isn’t ready to retire. He can feel that way now, but the man ISNT stupid,if we draft a tackle in the top 10, he will see the writing on the wall, and maybe that gets Him to consider possibly finishing his Eagle career at Guard, instead of being stubborn causing him to get cut and have to finish what little career he has left in another city.
..
stanley may not last TIL #8, and there is probably a kid or two I would prefer. But I see no reason Why he wouldn’t get some serious consideration if he is stll available, and even if he doesn’t start as a rookie, he would still provide tremendous value
No surprise but
Eagles will host quarterback Dak Prescott on a visit
http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2016/3/9/11187312/2016-nfl-draft-dak-prescott-eagles-quarterback-philadelphia-visit-mississippi-state-tim-tebow?utm_campaign=bleedinggreennation&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
This contract seems wrong no?
I hope that number includes incentives… or the Bradford trade is actually going to go down as that is some serious coin for a back up QB when you are already paying a guy 18mil a year.
Jesus, whyyyyyyyyyy
Woof
yeah, 7 million for a career backup who has barely played, and is 29? seems odd. maybe Bradford is the placeholder not for a rookie, but for Chase
WTF
Did howie let chip negotiate that one?
3 years, $21M, $12M guaranteed for Chase Daniel. Seems like a lot but I’d guess last year is at $9M and he’d never see that unless he’s the starter then. It’s top of market backup money. Regardless, don’t judge contracts until all the details are in.
I hate this deal oh so much.
Only pay attention to The first two years of every contract. The rest is bogus (like Junk DNA) meaningless
….
??
Bradford has to be getting traded. No way you can sign that kind of deal for a back up QB.
Daniel isn’t a starter.
If the deal is 21mil plus a load of incentives to get to $36mil on a 3 year deal that aint no back up deal.
Who exactly were we bidding against? Ridiculous…
He doesn’t meet incentives if he’s a backup.
Base is reportedly $21M over 3 years. I’d guess the other $15M is incentives based on him becoming the starter.
Regardless, you have Bradford and Daniels plus we are supposedly gunning for a QB in draft that is allot to tie up on the position no?
Think they may have looked at the QBs in this draft and though “Shit, Chase Daniel is better!”
If they wait TIL like round 4 or 5 to grab a QB, im fine with it… I care about the first two years of every playërs contract and always assume years 3,4 or 5 are all Bullshit Smoke and mirrors. If the player plays well, he will get a new deal yeàr 3, if the kid plays bad he will be cut in yeàr 3, if we have Cap problems and the guy has been ok, we renegotiate to clear Cap space
.
I judge every contract based off the first two years, and assume the rest is just garbage
..
I just don’t love goff, I want to like him, I just don’t see it
Broncos need a QB
I think I’m going to post this daily. Make sure you press play while reading everyone’s posts here…
This is Howie do it!

I thought Jeff Allen was white
I currently have us at around 8M for cap space for both 2016 AND 2017. This would be on an expected 166M cap for next year conservatively. I do not think we are done shedding some contracts here, people. Still need to sign OLB, draft picks, Cox extension.Really do not like the Chase Daniels deal. Knew he was going to get more than Sanchez, but that amount is ridiculous for a 29 year old back-up
Chase Daniel is horrible contract but, you double down because of familiarity with Dougs system and Bradfords injury history I guess.

#Eagles acquire 8th overall pick from Miami in exchange for LB Kiko Alonso, CB Byron Maxwell, & 13th overall pick.
Nice! now need to know what we are getting for trading Bradford, since we are currently paying over 30mil to QB’s in 2016… and none of them are good. (and before you say Sanchez is getting cut, the Eagles have not talked to him yet and if they were cutting him they would be doing it already – you have no trade leverage with the daniel deal).
What are we getting for trading Cox?
Trevathan to Bears
If the Rams paid more to keep Barron, than the Bears trade for Trevathan, The entire Rams front office needs to be fired
Trade officially official
I didn’t believe the rumors, but could we really be silly enough to trade Bradford because of Chase freaking Daniel, who has thrown for like 400 yards in his entire career?
If someone makes Roseman an offer he can’t refuse.
It’s easy to refuse any offer that ends with “Chase Daniel will be your starter until a suspect rookie QB is ready to play”.
Bradford’s on a 1+ contract at $18M (+$4M that’ll be offset if cut loose next year).
It’s not like the Eagles think he’s great.
So your saying $18M means “we like you, but we don’t LIKE like you”;-)
gotta draw the line somewhere lol
Sort of like under the sweater but over the bra.
D –
It’s the 1+ year.
Truth: I think both sides want Bradford to succeed big.
But, like I said, they’re moving forward with caution.
Isn’t it actually 12.5 plus 5.5 in dead money next year?
No
Lol now Denver has a ton of cap space and they could have paid VON Miller which would have allowed them to keep Osweiler.

McLeod base salaries: $1m, $4m, $6m, $7.5m, $8.5m. SB $8m. ’16 & ’17 base fully guar. $200K Pro Bowl escalators ’17-’20. 5 yrs, $35 million.
That’s only $13M guaranteed. I’d guess the other $4M “guar” is an injury only guaranteed of part of the 2018 base salary. 2016 cap hit is $2.6M.
We keep back-loading these contracts, we are going to be in a bad future situation.
The back ends of these contracts aren’t guaranteed. We can get out of them, usually after year 2 or 3 without hurting the cap.
As if Roseman doesn’t have the Cap covered.. He is the best in the business when it comes to this part of the GM game
Can always re-work contracts with a guy you want to keep.
A contract back loaded like that is easy to get out of friend. The money is no longer guaranteed so they can cut the player outright with no real ramifications.
Yeah I know. Maybe I’m just venting after seeing the Chase Daniel contract.
Completely understandable.
“easy to get out of”. Think you saw in 2014/2015 what happens when those contracts come to roost. Players aren’t always trying to take a caut.
Not saying for the players to take a pay cut but the team can dump the player with the non guaranteed years left on the deal.
unless you want to keep the player.
That’s a totally different situation. Nick was in the thinking we are going to be a bad cap space with the way the back end is set up.
That news helps me envision a cox extension.
Very reasonable deal… 13m is basically a 2 year 6.5mil deal which is frankly a bargain.
Broncos should sign Kurt Cousins to a big offer sheet, who cares if they have to give the skins Two picks at the end of round 1…. Probably won’t work, but what do they have to lose at this poïnt?
..
Probably rather give up two first rounders for Cousins, than trade for Garbage Kapernick or get stuck with Rg3..
..
Fitzpatrik to denver?
No team can talk to Cousins.
He signed the tender. He’s now exclusively Washington property.
What the hell is this monstrosity of a Daniels contact
Told all of you bradford wouldn’t be on this team!
violation… hes on the team. signed.. leave again please.
He isn’t on the team til he gets his bonus in mid March. Eagles haven’t paid him a dime since last season
good to know you can read.
Sweet man! Thanks for the heads up! Nice to see you again! How’s the family?!
Whoever is responding to the pox-ridden troll, please stop. Now.
Do you think a fresh post about him/her is any better? You are showing just as much attention with that post as the people that responded to said troll.
guys it’s me. i’m the troll. on my other account.
Perhaps about as effective as your reply…
Cool.
its a ME.. the Donald..
did you ever think you would be doing this well?
“The beauty of me is that I’m very rich.”
trade #8 for Mariota
And #1
We got Brandon brooks
Don’t know if reliable:

What do you expect the Eagles to say, “Hey John, you can have Sam for a 3rd?”
Roseman’s nothing if not coy.
I would expect them to say that if they want Bradford to be the starter and Daniel the backup which is what I expect.
I’m sure you’re right.
It’s a much less serious version of the unending “Kennedy conspiracy.”
I don’t think Bradford has a long leash especially in regard to injuries. Our QBs get hurt so much over the years, they’re paranoid.
“What do you expect the Eagles to say?” Under Chip Kelly — *crickets*
LOL at Giants. Can’t rush passer with JPP, so they resign JPP. Sign a 3-4 NT only. And then sign a route jumping CB who isn’t good if there isn’t a pass rush, which the Giants don’t have.
And their o-line still sucks.
giants suck!
I don’t know what your Talking about., the Giants DL was a JOKE..
Im not laughing now,.,, JPP… Damion Harrison..Jonathon Hankins..Olivier Vernon
Harrison is a 2 gap guy. He doesn’t fit a 4-3. JPP sucks. Vernon doesn’t get pressure on his own. Hankins is “eh.”
Soooo….Chase daniels at $7m/yr? Just taking demarco’s money and handing it to someone who may play 3 games a year?
That’s some crazy money for a back-up.
Who was chasing Chase to drive up the price?
Great question.
3 games a year? I think he’s only played 3 games in his career.
In the immortal words of Agent 86, Maxwell Smart:
“Would you believe 2?”
[actually, quite a few more. but 2 starts]
Maybe being a lifetime backup QB is the new coach’s equivalent to going to Oregon?
would you believe 1 plus 2 push ups?
well played!
So now they are reporting that 6 teams were in on chase Daniels…covering the tracks after the reaction to the contract?
i, and most of us, was thinking Chase would sign for less than Sanchez, Sanchez cut or traded, and thus save money.
Just keep Sanchez if Sanchez is cheaper. But i guess Chase according to Pederson is that much better than Sanchez.
I dunno, I would think that the top Backüp QB on the market two years from now will get more than Chase got Today..
..
i think its best to just judge every deal on the first two years of the contract. Years 3,4,5 of contracts I automatically assume are Bullshit. If the player plays well, he will get a new deal after year two, if he plays bad he will be cut or asked to take a pay cut after year two, if we want to keep a guy who has been average but we get into cap trouble, we let HOWIE do his contract gymnastics and renegotiate to free up money… I haven’t looked at the details of Chase deal yet, but the first two years are all im concerned with.
..
If we can trade Sanchez, I don’t mind paying a little more for a guy who are coach knows well and already knows the offense… I’ll be more annoyed if we get stuck having to cut Sanchez
Seems a little odd to me, not really sure what back up value is these days. Have to imagine it is more when SB is the starter. Do recall the Ravens paying Bulger over 6 mil a year a few years back. They don’t call it the best job in sports for nothing.
The Chiefs paid him some rather high salaries to be the backup there as well. Not a clue if he actually deserves it or not.
Deal does seem awfully rich. $12 fully guaranteed is a lot, though a fair bit of that is probably a signing bonus prorated out for a while. Bradford is basically on a one-year deal so I can see having Daniel as insurance for next year so that we aren’t desperate to keep Sam, but the numbers still seem really high. Need to see the full structure but I’m rather surprised at that price.
We will save 3.5 to 4.5 million on the cap if we get rid of Sanchez (if we trade it’s 4.5, and if we cut and there is offset language and he signs elsewhere for over $1 million it’s also 4.5), so that could cover this year at least. But there must be some pretty hefty numbers later on — maybe the third year salary is starter-level so we’d have to release by then if he’s not starting. Might even be the case for 2017 — we might have to choose between Daniel and Bradford (or neither).
Perhaps bu considering we still have some holes to fill and are running out of capspace, this was an unnecessary luxury
It might be neutral for this year. I sure hope anyways.
Cassell to Titans and Schaub to Falcons. Who wants some Sanchez?
yeah, if 6 teams chasing Chase, we can dangle Sanchez out to some of those teams. Worth a 4th, 5th for a semi-quality backup, who some called last year the league’s best back up.
What are the Titans doing with Cassell? I don’t want to see them trade Mettenberger to someone like Dallas… Grrrrrrr
Obviously Howie is elevating the market value of a backup QB so he can move the UNDER MARKET CONTRACT OF MARK SANCHEZ for a 4th round pick.
DUH GUYS.
EaGLes faNS are SO STUpiD
Your troll level typing could be elite AC if you wanted to go that route lol.
Thx.
Today’s a zany day, I guess.
Opening day of free agency usually has all of our heads spinning.
best job in the world: Backup QB (see-Blue Mountain State)
Alex Moran, everybody.
Johnny Utah
Lol… they are apparently making a movie.
Did you know the reason the RB in the first season wasn’t in the following season was due to serious drug trafficking charges?
him and Sam Herd (remember that guy from hard knocks?)….. I found the movie…. lets say I am happy I found it and didn’t purchase/rent.

That’s more than Maxwell.
So DK . . .
what you’re saying is the contract Kelly offered Maxwell was actually pretty good.
The contract wasn’t that bad. $10.5 million/year is a solid deal for a guy you think can be a pro bowl CB. They could also get out of the deal in two years if it didn’t work out.
The deal that pissed me off was DeMarco’s. The deal that pisses me off this year is Daniels’
Andre Johnson released. Says he wants to play 1 more year. Sad ending if he goes to the jags or something…
The moral of the day is, draft and develop OL, DL, QBs and CBs, because they are getting paid top dollar.
So Chip is picking one spot before us now. Should we bet on him picking someone out of left field and helping us or screwing us one last time?
Baalke’s very possessive of his draft authority.
SF not run like Eagles v. 2013-14.
Or do we end up picking before him. There is no certainty with Howie in charge, the man moves around the board like Gary Kasparov.
Mac –
continued great wordsmithing.
Hoping Baalke takes Goff.,,, drafting a QB early is the traditional sneaky GM trying to keep his job a little longer move
Trade up 2 spots just to fuck with him.
The Chase Daniels deal is ridiculous. $7 million a year with $12 million guaranteed?
call $2M of it a “coach’s bonus” — and now it’s ok.
Sanchez was robbing us so there’s that.
I guess I’m just a typical Eagles fan because I liked the two trades, McLeod, and Brooks signing but all I can think about is this ridiculous Daniel contract.
i knew it’d be too good to be true. Dougie probably looking at all the toys that Jim got and got jealous.
That said, if Chase plays a couple of good games could be a very tradeable contract in the future.
I’m much more excited about moving from 13 to 8 in a salary dump than I am worried about the money in Daniel’s contract.
It’s such a ridiculous contract. That’s money you could have paid to another starter. Alex Boone got 4 years, $28 million, and $10 million guaranteed. That’s also similar money to what Lamar Miller and Jeff Allen got
OK, where is this Murray trade?
Huh? The demarco trade? We swapped 4th round picks for Murray so we now have the second pick in round 4… Basically a salary dump
Has it been confirmed yet or announced officially?
I guess not according to Mr, Brewer… I heard Moesher break the news earlier
Want it official.
I want two chicks at the same time
I am with you Don.
Think it’s official
Think the Giants got Vernon
Yep. Being confirmed everywhere
5yr 85 with 52.5 guaranteed. They Are spending some dough. Second highest paid defensive player
$17M per year. Cox will be getting QB money now.
For Vernon really. What was Graham’s deal?
Don’t know but Cox probably has an extension going on in his pants right now
Holy Smokes. That’s franchise player JJ Watt money.
I hate the Dolphins.. They prefered two old men edge rushers Wake and selfish Mario Williams and let the Giants have a quality 25yr old pass rusher who’s best is still ahead of him..
..
don’t sleep on the Giamts DL NOW.. Vernon and JPP on the edges, Hankins and the big run stuffing DT from the Jets, that Front Line was a joke, now I’m not laughing anymore
Vernon got JJ Watt money. I don’t blame them for taking Mario at significantly less money.
I blame them for allowing it to get to the point where they lose two of their best young building blocks
Vernon isn’t that good.
You are Severly under dating him, and he is DRASTICALLY better than what they had this year…
I’m not sure if he and I over dating would be a good idea either.
Who can’t get pressure on his own. Bad signing again.
Now they are pitching it as Daniel is competing with Sam for starting job. Methinks they didn’t like the PR reaction to the contract
Just was about to post this.
Just like Sanchez was completing with Sam for the starting job last year.
My money is on the tall skinny kid with the strong arm and $18M contract versus the short chubby kid with the $7M contract.
Mitchell Schwartz… comon’ Howie, don’t let him go to NY.
With what money? we are tapped out of anything but 1 year rental guys now. 2017 cap will be tight especially with Cox extension or tag.
any idea what is left after these signings?
Too soon without Both Daniel and Brooks contract info,
But lets assume that Daniels gets $12mil in the next 2 years, McLoud gets $13mil (cap hit in those 2 years will be $9.5), And Brooks gets $15mil (12mil cap hit), that eats ~32mil of cap space over the next 2 years. and Eagles currently have about $60mil of cumulative space.
However you need to add 2 years of draft picks ~8mil, and Cox’s 2017 Tag value at ~14mil… and you are running out of space FAST.
cool. thanks, guys! we’ll know more when there are better details of these contracts.
no much, we spent a lot on a safety, guard and two QB contracts. 25m/yr wrapped up in two dudes no one really likes. Plus mark sanchez for now, plus that other dude.
Safety counts $2.5M this year. So total contract is misleading. It’s a good question. How much actual cap space is there left this year. Good to know b/c Cox’s cap figure will probably be at least $10M, though part of that is offset by his current cap hit (only need to pay difference). That gives an idea of how much of this year’s cap space we have to play with. Despite however contracts are massaged in later years, you still need a few million per player for this year.
Not really… sanchez and Ryan Mathews contracts will be off the books soon
<<< Does not care who's money it is. Wants bookend OTs of future nao.
Don’t see it happening unless Peters is cut/traded.
Think the Giants will end up with Bobby Massie
Nice. Another guy who can’t block.
Massie went to the Bears.
Jay Cutler weeps. Or at least sulks.
my guitar though — gently weeps…
So Massie is a bear, schwartz is a Cheif… Who’s left for the Giants to fix their OL?
pooch Okung and give him a 6 year $80M deal lol
Do we take Staley if he is there? Heard that he wouldn’t be good as a guard. Maybe put Staley at RT, Lane at Lt and Peters at LG if he’s willing. Would be a pretty beast ol and you would have two huge guards around kelce
Stanley?
Yes. You can move Peters for a draft pick if you get Stanley at T.
Who do you think would be willing to take Peters, especially at his age and salary?
Anybody who has terrible tackle play and isn’t worried about a guy who comes to you with zero guarantees on his deal.
How about San Diego?
That was my first thought
Yeah Stanley. Would we be on the hook for any of Peters salary?
Yes. Some advanced pro rated bonus.
Peters isnt playing guard
Pat Kirwan has Vernon as the 25th ranked FA..lol
Yup. Massive overpay by the Giants.
JPP gives it one thumbs down
Excellent
.Kind of feel bad for him.. 365 days ago he was on top of the world, turning down Huge Money extensions, forcing the Giants to Tag him, he blows up his hand celebrating a Holiday, lost all type of money, has to keep signing prove it deals, and now he has to watch some kid from another team at his position get PAID… I understand trying to get as much money possible, but guys are taking huge risks turning big money down in hopes of bigger money later…. Personally, I’d probably take the security, life is too uncertain, one day can change your entire world
I’ll take issue with your use of the term “massive”. If you stipulate that just about everybody overpays in FA, particularly at OL DL CB, and you look at Vernon’s history and age (25), I think the 85 Mil is rich, but not altogether foolish. He was the best pass rusher in FA, he’s been pretty durable, and he achieved star status playing across from a great star in Wake. Clearly the Giants are chasing the spectre of their last 2 SB wins, where their DL was the MVP. If I am not wrong, they will be adding more to that DL in the draft. Vernon’s contract is a gamble, but if NY wins a playoff game next season, it will have been deemed worth it, I think.
I’ll take issue with:
“best pass rusher in FA” – What did we learn with Maxwell and Murray?
“achieved star status playing across from a great star in Wake.” – 14 sacks in 32 starts in the last two years. That isn’t a start and he’s not playing with Wake (and Suh) anymore.
They’re not winning anything except my middle finger and contempt. F NY.
I would have considered Vernon a very good young edge rusher regardless of what other edge rushers were available in FA… Good young player who’s best is still ahead of him…
..
It was much easier to laugh at the Giants defense yesterday when their DL Wasnt JPP, dame harrison, Hankins, Vernon..
Had 81 combined sacks, hits, & hurries last year.
That’s a good signing even if they did overpay.
I was reading how most of those were generated by other players and he was cleaning up.
In that case, excellent news.
Yup.
Yeah he can play… As Eagles fans on sunday we will much rather see the Giants have an extra 17mil in Cap space, than to see them throw Vernon at us..
..
I don’t know how he fits into their cap situatipn, how he compares to recent FA edge rusher contracts, but he does make that defense much better than it was yesterday.. I don’t care to debate Janoris Jenkins contract, but Janoris/DRC make them a better defense than they were yesterday with DRC and Princess Amakamura
Giants are spending big money. I thought the Cowboys would have been more active.
They were spurned by Lamar Miller and the only real visits I have heard that they set up are Ced Thronton. Really enjoying the non-existent start to FA that the Cowturds are having.
winners in march are usually losers in january
But the reverse is not true.
The Giants are paying $17 mil / year to a guy who has averaged 7 sacks a season over the last 2 seasons where he’s made all 32 starts.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
$17 mil for a 7 sack a year guy.
If he doesn’t play his ass off, it HAS to be the Nal in Jerry Reese’s GM coffin,
..
When you blow Draft after Draft, you are forced to pay crazy money for someone else’s talent.. If that player doesn’t produce and you botch the overpaying free agent to make up for your Botched Drafting,,,. There isn’t much left for you to fuck up as a GM…
Pick up a hammer and start nailing.
So with all this turnover, and the fact that Peters won’t take a pay cut or move to Guard, would anyone else be down with moving on from him this offseason?I would like to get an asset if we could, but ya never know.
I am all for continuity on the Offensive Line, but the sooner we get the new guys working together, the quicker that chemistry can develop. Maybe go after Schwartz now, or if we grab Stanley in the 1st round– I would like these guys to be developing that chemistry as early as they can.
yes
Maybe; depends on the contract AFTER the one he just signed, that observers said was ‘left tackle money’.
Lane will be unhappy if he’s not future LT.
Id rather not,,. And I got the impression that the eagles won’t be making him as a surprise cut..
..
Why would anyone want to move Peters? For starters you can’t move him TIL we make sure we got a tackle in the draft, but at that point why would we rather get rid of Peters instead of having Peters and a rookie? We aren’t going to do anything significant with the money we free up.. So I don’t get the upside in cutting Peters after the draft? The Eagles will sigń maybe another starter or two, and a backüp or two, and draft the rest of our team… Why get rid of him if there won’t be any immediate need for the money we would free up?
..
We shouldn’t look at a top 10 pick spending his first year on the bench as the end up the world. I view that as Best case scenario, I view that as “If we are lucky, our top 10 pick won’t have to play right away”
…
If Peters ISNT going to be an Eagle this year, it BETTER be because we want to free up money to improve our team in Free agency NOW..
..
Also, it’s easy for JP to scoff at moving to Guard now, watch how he changes his tune if we draft a Takle at #8 and he sees the writing on the wall that if he doesn’t ok the move to guard, he will have to finish the end of his career somewhere else.. Drafting Stanley could be the move that makes him more open to consideringa move to Guard if that’s what he has to do to end his career as an eagle which seems important to him
Yes. He was in decline last year even when he bandaged up and made it onto the field.
Mitchell swartz to the chiefs 5 year deal
I can live with that. (and thanks for the update)
WTF is Miami doing? It’s about as dumb as what Chip kelly did… He is letting cornerstone yoûng 24, 25, 26yr old building blocks like Vernon and Lamar Miller for 30yr olds from other teams?
.
Im not even laughing at them any more, starting to feel bad for Miami fans… This is insanity
Vernon contract is ridiculous
They’re paying $17 mil / year for a guy who averages less than a half sack a game over the last two years and has started all 32 games.
I disagree… I look at the first two years of every contract, and assume that the rest is equivalent to meaningless Junk DNA..
..
If Im a fan of the Giants, Id much rather see them give that contract to Vernon, than to continue to have NO talent whatsoever on Defense
..
Id rather my team pay more, than to not have talent but save cap space
nah I’d rather they spend foolishly on Vernon then have cap flexibility, these signings were dumb, their D will be average at best
Maybe the Giants figured out that it was Damon Harrison who made Muhammed Wilkerson successful.
That has to be it………………
Said no one ever.
False. The human punching bag NYG fans will say it a lot.
I am the train out of the city now and there are people already talking about how the Giants made great moves and they are winning the division next year. I just sit here and laugh until my stop comes.
What if Howie planned this all along. Sign chase and draft a QB at 8 to sit behind chase. Trade Bradford to the bronco’s for their 1st and hopefully some change. They have to be desperate for a qb
Bradford is better than Daniel. Why do you spend all this money if you aren’t going for it and what about the money going to Bradford. All the FAs will be signed if they don’t trade fast.
You can’t trade a guy right after you sign him can you? Wouldn’t that be a huge cap hit?
per PFT – Eagles haven’t paid him a dime yet so he’s easily traded…
According to Albright, not for the Eagles because of the structure, but it would be a 18 million cap hit for the other team.
We have a week to trade Bradford with no cap bit 🙂 sneaky howie
I mean that seems dirty, but I’d do it, it only makes sense
https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/707688892384808961
Well he’s ownly thrown one pick in his 5 year career.
Said same about Sanchez. Every year they say that.
How do yall feel about the Harrison contract from NY
Dumb at any price. He’s a 3-4 / 2 gap NT ONLY. How does that fit what Spags does?
Reese is really taking their terrible run defense to the heart with that signing. They better hope Vernon is the next coming of Strahan or they still wont get to the QB.
I’m going with…………..they still won’t get to the QB.
Cancelled out by the signing of Brooks. 2 fat guys going at it.
Only difference is that our signing is able to play in the position we’re putting him.
I’m sorry this Chase deal is pissing me off
We’re all pissed.
One of us doesn’t care….
10 minutes ago — HW was walking on water. Now it’s a WTF is he doing? lmao….
I’m not going to get too irked over it until we break camp with that much money tied up.
I mean, that is way too much, and the competing for starting job thing is…what? They gonna put an $18M QB on the bench? nah something is up
Yeah, so I’m not going to be mad until the dust settles.
I’ll be mad now and look stupid later…that is the Oreofestar way
It’s good to know one’s own shtick. I tend to go for both together myself. MM’s right, there may be more to this this move…..
I just want to see all of the numbers and the final roster before I pass judgement.
but now you can enjoy being pissed off, which you seem to tend to want to do anyway. All of these good moves and contracts must have had you dying to get angry.
So JPP got 10.5 per
Vernon 17 per
Harrison
