Game Preview – PHI at DAL

Well, assuming 1st place in the NFC East on Halloween is all the marbles, that is a true statement. This is the biggest game of the season, with the Eagles on the road against a red hot team who also happens to be a bitter rival. The winner is atop the division. The loser is in 2nd place.
Can the Eagles win? Yes.
Will the Eagles win? I don’t have a definitive feeling about this game.
I’m not nervous like I was heading into the Skins game. I’m also not as confident as I was when taking on the Steelers or Vikings. The Eagles defense gives me confidence. Dallas hasn’t played a group this good. The Dallas defense also gives me confidence. They are nowhere close to the Vikings so Carson Wentz and the offense should be able to move the ball.
The Dallas run game does worry me. That OL can really run block and Ezekiel Elliott looks like the real deal.

The Eagles were hoping to have Taylor Hart for the game. He hurt his ankle in practice and won’t go. That means the DTs will play a lot of snaps against a team that likes to pound the ball. I’m guessing Jim Schwartz will use DEs inside on passing downs even more than usual to give his DTs a breather here and there.
As important as the DL will be, the LBs will also play a huge role in this game. There are going to be plays where Elliott has space. It is up to the LBs to get to him and tackle well. They can also help by shooting gaps and hitting him in the backfield.
The good news here is that Jordan Hicks and Mychal Kendricks just played their best games of the year. Nigel Bradham has played well the whole year, minus the WAS disaster. Hicks and Kendricks started against Dallas last year in the OT win. They know this offense. It is a bit different with Dak Prescott at the helm, but the base offense is the same. Those LBs combined for 11 tackles, 2 TFLs, a sack and an INT in that big win. They should be confident players.
The Eagles LBs were bad in the loss to WAS. They played much better last week, both in terms of being disciplined and making plays. It seems like they learned their lesson in the Skins game. You can’t just run around and take chances. You need to be in the right gap. You also have to take on blockers the proper way. If you don’t, you are helping the offense out. All of the Eagles LBs have the size to strike blockers, shed them and go get after the ball. It is critical that they do that tonight.
Can’t wait to see what the Eagles defense does tonight.
Oh yeah, and that Wentz guy too.

I’m usually on Belichicks side when it comes to first kick or receive it when you win the coin toss – ALWAYS kick, to get the chance to get 2 strikes right before and right after Halftime.
But against the Vikings and now against the Cowboys, I’m for receiving it. Those two teams are built completely different, but they have one thing in common: they need to play with the lead for their style to be most effective. Try to make them chase you.
Hopefully their bye week derailed their momentum a bit like it did to us…

Marinelli seems to give us fits; from his days in Chicago to his time now in Dallas. Kelce seems to struggle with his stunts; we have to get a hat on Lee as well.

BG was good his rookie year, then injuries really caused him to struggle the next 2 years, and then he was in an imperfect scheme which took some time to adapt to. MSIII will probably end up being a decent NFL role player, but i doubt he ever is more than a rotational pass rusher.
Agholor still has time, but he seems to really struggle with concentration and reading the game… which are not easy things to fix.

I am pretty with how the game is going. Generally our defence comes up bigger in the 2nd half, and so far the couple of chances for turn overs have just not fallen for us yet.
